The hot pressing process for 100% coriander-based fiberboards was optimized using an induction RocTool system, which offers rapid mold heating and cooling. The fiberboards were made using deoiled press cake as a protein binder and extrusion-refined straw as reinforcement. Doehlert's experimental design was used to evaluate the influence of pressure (10-50 MPa), molding time (60-300 s), and mold temperature (155-205 °C) on fiberboard properties, energy consumption, cost, and environmental impact. The results showed that the RocTool device allows for better temperature control during shaping throughout the mold, resulting in mechanical properties that are both more homogeneous across the entire surface of the panel and, more importantly, substantially improved. Using the isoresponse curves, the optimal hot pressing conditions were 35 MPa, 300 s, and 205 °C, corresponding to a 40.6 MPa flexural strength. However, it was observed that to achieve an MDF-like fiberboard with minimal production costs, much less restrictive molding conditions were sufficient, i.e., 32.5 MPa, 170 s, and 160 °C. The study revealed that maximum thermopressing conditions emitted 3.87 kg of CO 2 eq ., while conditions leading to the MDF-like board reduced emissions to 1.45 kg CO 2 eq ., resulting in a more environmentally friendly material.

Research Question: To compare stimulated cycle (STC) versus modified natural cycle (MNC) for endometrial preparation prior to frozen embryo transfer (FET) in terms of convenience and efficacy., Design: Prospective, open-label, randomized controlled study including 119 patients aged 20-38 years, undergoing intra-conjugal IVF/intracytoplasmic sperm injection, having regular cycles, at least two day 2 or day 3 frozen embryos, for whom it was the first or second FET performed, randomized to either MNC (n = 59) or STC (n = 60). Monitoring consisted of ultrasound and hormonal measurements. The number of monitoring visits required was compared between the two groups., Results: STC required a significantly lower number of monitoring visits compared with MNC (3.6 ± 0.9 versus 4.4 ± 1.1, respectively, P < 0.0001), a lower number of blood tests (2.7 ± 0.8 versus 3.5 ± 1.0, respectively, P < 0.0001) and of ultrasounds (1.2 ± 0.4 versus 1.5 ± 0.6, respectively, P = 0.0039). FET during 'non-opening' hours (22.6% versus 27.5%, respectively, P = 0.32) and cancellation rates (11.7% versus 11.9%, respectively, P = 0.97) were comparable between the STC and MNC groups. No difference concerning HCG-positive rates (34.0% versus 23.1%, respectively, P = 0.22) nor live birth rates (24.5% for STC versus 23.1% for MNC, respectively, P = 0.86) was observed. Quality of life as defined by the FertiQol score was not different (P > 0.05 for each item)., Conclusion: Altogether, these findings can be used for everyday clinical practice to better inform patients when deciding on the protocol to use for FET. These results suggest that MNC is a good option for patients reluctant to have injections, but requires increased monitoring. Objective: To investigate whether an associated ovarian endometrioma is a marker for severity of deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE)., Design: Observational study between June 1992 and December 2005., Setting: University tertiary referral center., Patient(s): Five hundred patients with histologically assessed DIE., Intervention(s): Complete surgical exeresis of deep endometriotic lesions., Main Outcome Measure(s): Severity of the disease was quantified according to the mean number of DIE lesions and the type of main lesion., Result(s): In patients with associated ovarian endometrioma, the number of single isolated DIE lesions was statistically significantly lower (41.9% vs. 61.1%). The mean number of DIE lesions was statistically significantly higher in patients presenting with an associated ovarian endometrioma (2.51 +/- 1.72 vs. 1.64 +/- 1.0). For patients with associated ovarian endometrioma DIE lesions were more severe with an increased rate of vaginal, intestinal, and ureteral lesions., Conclusion(s): Associated ovarian endometrioma is a marker for the severity of the DIE. In a clinical context suggestive of DIE, when there is an ovarian endometrioma, the practitioner should investigate the extent of the disease to check for severe and multifocal DIE lesions.

Objective: The objective of this study was to report a multicentric study of nine cases of children presenting with a birth-related spinal injury., Materials and Methods: The medical charts of nine patients identified by a questionnaire sent to the members of the French Society of Paediatric Orthopaedics (SOFOP) were reviewed., Conclusions: The pregnancy was uneventful in all cases. The fetal presentation was cephalic in three cases, a breech presentation in four cases, a face presentation in two cases. The lesion involved the cervical spine in six cases. Three patients presenting upper cervical injuries died before the age of 6 years. The six remaining patients experienced no neurological improvement. These rare conditions occur during difficult deliveries with abnormal presentations, the most common being a breech presentation with entrapment of the fetal head. In a child with hypotonia, flaccid quadriplegia or high thoracic paraplegia after a difficult delivery, a spinal cord injury must be suspected and plain radiographs and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) must be performed.

Unlabelled: The cephalic vein of the forearm is often used for IV catheters because of its ease of access for peripheral venous cannulation. But its close relation to the sensory branch of the radial nerve sometimes causes it to be damaged when the vein is cannulated. Our anatomic study conducted on 33 specimens confirmed the risk of nerve lesion. However, it is impossible to define a safe zone, because of the randomly located nerve and vein crossing zones, where the iatrogenic risk of damaging the radial nerve is maximum. We suggest that to avoid incidents, the cephalic vein should be punctured above the emergence of the sensory branch of the radial nerve, e.g., at least 12 cm above the level of the styloid process of the radius., Implications: We attempted to determine the relationship between the cephalic vein and the sensory branch of the radial nerve at the wrist to help prevent lesions of the radial nerve when the cephalic vein is cannulated. We examined the anatomy of 33 postmortem specimens and suggest that puncture of the cephalic vein 12 cm or more proximal to the styloid process can prevent radial nerve lesions.

A technique of myocardial protection using a perfusion circuit in deep hypothermia via the ascending aorta or by selective cannulation of the coronaries has been used over a period of 2 years in almost 200 patients undergoing surgery requiring prolonged aortic clamping. It ensures rapid and homogeneous cooling of the myocardium (10-12 degrees C) and meets its reduced oxygen needs. It may be completed by cardioplegia (infusion of potassium chloride or lidocaine using an automatic syringe at a determined level). This simple technique permits a rapid spontaneous return of normal effective cardiac action. No low cardiac output syndromes have been seen since it has been used. Laboratory, histological, biochemical and haemodynamic studies carried out have confirmed its harmless nature.
