O artigo apresenta uma Revisão Sistemática da Literatura (RSL) através da Bibliometria, que visou investigar de que forma a Realidade Aumentada (RA) é aplicada no ensino de geometria no Ensino médio. A RSL teve como base de dados o Portal de Teses e Dissertações da Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Nível Superior (CAPES), no qual foram estabelecidas palavras chaves, bem como o período que foi considerado (2018 – 2020). O objetivo geral é encontrar trabalhos sobre Realidade Aumentada e compreender as contribuições da abordagem CTS (Ciência, Sociedade e Tecnologia). Foi encontrado um total de cento e quarenta e sete trabalhos entre teses e dissertações, sendo que apenas sete versavam diretamente sobre Realidade Aumentada e ensino de Geometria Espacial. Os resultados apontam uma grande defasagem quanto ao número de trabalhos em RA para o ensino de geometria, evidenciando assim a importância de fazer uso da uma abordagem de CTS no ensino de matemática.

RESUMO Este artigo discute o impacto da regulamentação do mercado brasileiro de trigo na estrutura industrial da farinha de trigo e a possibilidade de absorção de subsídios pela indústria. Primeiro, são observados os aspectos institucionais da indústria de farinha de trigo. Em seguida, a estrutura utilizada foi baseada em indicadores desenvolvidos na teoria da Organização Industrial, que indica que a regulamentação não é a causa do aumento da concentração do mercado nem que a indústria absorveu o subsídio. Pelo contrário, parece que o lucro real da indústria diminuiu durante o período relevante da política de subsídios (1970-80).

A higher incidence of primary congenital hypothyroidism (CH) has been related to increased sensitivity in neonatal screening tests. The benefit of treatment in mild cases remains a topic of debate. We evaluated the impact of reducing the blood-spot TSH cut-off (b-TSH) from 10 (Group 2) to 6 mIU/L (Group 1) in a public neonatal screening program. During the study period, 40% of 123 newborns with CH (n = 162,729; incidence = 1:1323) had b-TSH between 6 and 10 mIU/L. Group 1 patients had fewer clinical signs (p = 0.02), lower serum TSH (p < 0.01), and higher free T4 (p < 0.01) compared to those in Group 2 at diagnosis. Reducing the b-TSH cut-off from 10 to 6 mIU/L increased screening sensitivity, allowing a third of diagnoses, mainly mild cases, not being missed. However, when evaluating the performances of b-TSH cut-offs (6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 mIU/L), the lower values were associated with low positive predictive values (PPVs) and unacceptable increased recall rates (0.57%) for a public health care program. A proposed strategy is to adopt a higher b-TSH cut-off in the first sample and a lower one in the subsequent samples from the same child, which yields a greater number of diagnoses with an acceptable PPV.

Bulk single crystals of WTe2 were grown by the self-flux method and characterized by X-ray diffraction, polarized micro-Raman spectroscopy, and optical microscopy. All methods revealed a high crystalline quality, thus demonstrating the advantages of the growth method used as a starting base for the synthesis of high-quality 2D materials. In each main scattering configuration, we recorded a series of Raman spectra in different sample orientations achieved by rotating the sample around the incident laser beam. In addition to the well-established case of excitation along the c crystal axis, we also applied laser excitation along the a and b axes. Thus, scattering configurations were also realized in the XZ and YZ polarization planes, for which no comparative literature data have yet been established. In these experiments, two new Raman-active phonons with B2 symmetry and frequencies of 89 cm−1 and 122 cm−1 were identified. The obtained experimental data enabled us to derive the magnitude ratios of all three tensor elements of the A1 modes and to find their phase differences.

Information on asplenic Lyme borreliosis (LB) patients with erythema migrans (EM) is lacking. We compared the course and outcome of 26 EM episodes in 24 post-trauma splenectomized patients (median age 51 years) diagnosed at a single clinical center in Slovenia during 1994–2023 with those of 52 age- and sex-matched patients with EM but with no history of splenectomy. All patients were followed for one year. A comparison of pre-treatment characteristics revealed that EM in splenectomized patients was of shorter duration before diagnosis (4 vs. 8 days, p = 0.034) with a smaller EM diameter (10.5 vs. 14 cm, p = 0.046), and more frequently fulfilled criteria for disseminated LB (3/26, 11.5% vs. 0%, p = 0.034). Treatment failure occurred in 5/26 (19.2%) EM episodes in splenectomized patients versus 0/52 in non-splenectomized patients (p = 0.003). The five treatment failure cases were retreated with antibiotic regimens used to treat EM and had complete resolution of all symptoms/signs. In conclusion, our study showed that splenectomized adult patients with EM differ somewhat in presentation and more often have treatment failure compared with non-splenectomized patients with EM.

We report a two-step growth process of MoS2 nanoflakes using a low-pressure chemical vapor deposition technique. In the first step, a MoS2 layer was synthesized on a c-plane sapphire substrate. This layer was subsequently re-evaporated at a higher temperature to form mono- or few-layer MoS2 flakes. As a result, the close proximity re-evaporation enabled the growth of pristine MoS2 nanoflakes. Atomic force microscopy analysis confirmed the synthesis of nanoclusters/nanoflakes with lateral dimensions of over 10 μm and a flake height of approximately 1.3 nm, demonstrating bi-layer MoS2, whereas transmission electron microscopy analysis revealed triangular MoS2 nanoflakes, with a diffraction pattern proving the presence of single crystalline hexagonal MoS2. Raman data revealed the typical modes of high-quality MoS2 nanoflakes. Finally, we presented the photocurrent dependence of a MoS2-based photoresist under illumination with light-emitting diode of 405 nm wavelength. The measured current–voltage dependence across various luminous flux outlined the sensitivity of MoS2 to polarized light and thus opens further opportunities for applications in high-performance photodetectors with polarization sensitivity.

The effect of the processing parameters on the final microstructure and mechanical properties was investigated for additively manufactured maraging tool steel 1.2709. First, an effective range of appropriate combinations of heat treatment parameters was found using the design of experiments (DOE) method. This suggested 17 variations of heat treatment regimes. The effect of input parameters (initial condition, hardening temperature, hold at hardening temperature) on the output values (mechanical properties) was then statistically evaluated. Three initial conditions of the additively manufactured (AM) steel were used: as-built, annealed at 820 °C for 1 h and annealed at 940 °C for 2 h. A subsequent heat treatment in the region of 250 °C–750 °C was considered with holds of 0–6 h at the temperatures. Based on the measured mechanical properties, regression analysis was performed and optimal models for the prediction of individual mechanical properties were produced. The coefficient of determination of the models for yield and ultimate strengths and hardness reached above 95% when hardening temperature was considered a significant factor. It was around 98% in the case of tensile strength and hardness when the additional effect of the initial condition was also included in the models. This means a very reliable prediction of those mechanical properties can be expected. On the other hand, the model for total elongation can explain only 41% of the measured values, as not a single statistically significant factor was identified.

Abstract Background Scrotal swelling is a clinical situation which can be caused by different aetiologies. In this case report, we describe a multi-week episode of unilateral and bilateral scrotal swelling in boars at an Austrian boar stud and its diagnostic work-up. Case presentation In the summer of 2020, the herd veterinarian of an Austrian boar stud reported that over a period of six weeks, five out of 70 boars presented with unilateral severe swelling of the left scrotum and three out of 70 boars with bilateral severe swelling of the left and moderate swelling of the right scrotum, respectively. A complete history was obtained and an on-site evaluation of the facility was done. Five boars were necropsied, and a variety of samples harvested for further diagnostic investigations. Infectious differential diagnoses associated with unilateral swelling of the scrotum or the testis were excluded through serological and tissue testing. In three of the five boars, histopathology revealed complete acute haemorrhagic necrosis of the left testis concurrent with strongly congested blood vessels. Review of the collected information with a group of experts in the field of boar stud management resulted with consensus that, most likely, trauma was the etiologic event causing the clinical signs and pathology. Coincident with discussion of implementing video recording cameras in the boar housing area, no further clinical cases followed. As this case occurred during the first lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic, we propose that the distress and travelling restrictions may have contributed to frustration among boar stud workers, which was consequently expressed as misbehaviour against boars. Conclusions Once all known infectious causes of unilateral swelling of the scrotum were excluded, a critical diagnostic work-up focused on non-infectious causes. Non-infectious causes, such as trauma, need to be carefully evaluated, as it may also include human misbehaviour against boars. Summarizing all findings of this case report, the authors hypothesize that a blunt trauma was the reason for the series of mainly unilateral swelling of the scrota of boars.

A small tile panel created by the Italian ceramic painter Francisco Niculoso (active 1498-1529) from the private collection of Ferdinand Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (1816-1885), king consort to Queen Maria II of Portugal (1819-1853), was in 1902 acquired by the Rijksmuseum. Although the ownership history of this Visitation panel is not fully documented, this essay provides a more comprehensive understanding of its historical narrative, by exploring the various contexts of acquisition and collecting. The panel’s journey from Lisbon to Amsterdam vividly illustrates the remarkable fluidity and permeability that defined the boundaries of art markets and museums around the turn of the twentieth century.

ABSTRACT: The Amazonian manatee (Trichechusinunguis) is an aquatic mammal threatened with extinction. However, few studies have investigated the pathogens in this species, which may affect both animal and human health. This study aimed to evaluate the frequency, distribution, and patterns of antimicrobial susceptibility of Staphylococcus spp. and Escherichiacoli colonizing the nasal and rectal cavities of Amazonian manatees kept in captivity at the National Institute for Amazonian Research (INPA) in the state of Amazonas, Brazil. Rectal and nasal swabs from 44 manatees of different ages were used in this study. The genus Staphylococcus was isolated from the nasal swabs of 32 (72.7%) animals, with two individuals harboring more than one species of Staphylococcus. S. sciuri was the most commonly isolated species. Resistance to penicillin was observed in 13 (40.6%) isolates, more frequent than the other antimicrobials tested (P = 0.01). E. coli was isolated from the rectal swabs of all animals, with phylogroup B1 being the most frequent among the strains obtained (P = 0.0008). Four isolates (6.8%) were positive for virulence factors, three of which were classified as enterotoxigenicE. coli (ETEC) and one as enteropathogenicE. coli (EPEC). To our knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate Staphylococcus spp. and E. coli in Amazonian manatee samples. This study revealed nasal colonization by Staphylococcus spp., mainly S. sciuri, and diarrheagenicE. coli isolates, including antimicrobial-resistant strains.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan evaluasi hasil pengembangan media pembelajaran berbasis Android di tingkat Sekolah Dasar selama satu dekade. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif tipe meta-analisis, dengan sumber data berasal dari hasil-hasil penelitian yang relevan yang telah ditelusuri di database pengindek yang memenuhi kriteria kelayakan inklusi dan eksklusi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat kevalidan media pembelajaran berbasis Android mencapai 91,7%, menunjukkan bahwa media tersebut dapat diandalkan dalam menyajikan konten pendidikan yang akurat dan sesuai standar. Selain itu, tingkat kepraktisan media pembelajaran mencapai 92%, menunjukkan kemudahan penggunaan dan implementasi dalam konteks pembelajaran di Sekolah Dasar. Tingkat keefektivan media pembelajaran berbasis Android juga tinggi, dengan nilai sebesar 90%, menandakan bahwa media tersebut dapat meningkatkan hasil pembelajaran siswa. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi positif terhadap pemahaman kita tentang pengembangan media pembelajaran berbasis Android di tingkat Sekolah Dasar. Dampak praktis dari penelitian ini terhadap praktik pendidikan adalah memberikan dasar yang kuat untuk pengembangan dan implementasi lebih lanjut media pembelajaran berbasis Android di tingkat Sekolah Dasar, dengan tingkat kevalidan, kepraktisan, dan keefektivan yang tinggi, sehingga dapat meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran dan hasil belajar siswa secara signifikan.

Full treatment of the second most common neurodegenerative disorder, Parkinson’s disease (PD), is still considered an unmet need. As the psychostimulants, amphetamine (AMPH) and methylphenidate (MPH), were shown to be neuroprotective against stroke and other neuronal injury diseases, this study aimed to evaluate their neuroprotective potential against two dopaminergic neurotoxicants, 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) and paraquat (PQ), in differentiated human dopaminergic SH-SY5Y cells.Neither cytotoxicity nor mitochondrial membrane potential changes were seen following a 24-hour exposure to either therapeutic concentration of AMPH or MPH (0.001–10 μM). On the other hand, a 24-hour exposure to 6-OHDA (31.25–500 μM) or PQ (100–5000 μM) induced concentration-dependent mitochondrial dysfunction, assessed by the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, and lysosomal damage, evaluated by the neutral red uptake assay. The lethal concentrations 25 and 50 retrieved from the concentration-toxicity curves in the MTT assay were 99.9 µM and 133.6 µM for 6-OHDA, or 422 µM and 585.8 µM for PQ. Both toxicants caused mitochondrial membrane potential depolarization, but only 6-OHDA increased reactive oxygen species (ROS). Most importantly, PQ-induced toxicity was partially prevented by 1 μM of AMPH or MPH. Nonetheless, neither AMPH nor MPH could prevent 6-OHDA toxicity in this experimental model.According to these findings, AMPH and MPH may provide some neuroprotection against PQ-induced neurotoxicity, but further investigation is required to determine the exact mechanism underlying this protection.

The two-planet transiting system LHS 1140 has been extensively observed since its discovery in 2017, notably with Spitzer, HST, TESS, and ESPRESSO, placing strong constraints on the parameters of the M4.5 host star and its small temperate exoplanets, LHS 1140 b and c. Here, we reanalyze the ESPRESSO observations of LHS 1140 with the novel line-by-line framework designed to fully exploit the radial velocity content of a stellar spectrum while being resilient to outlier measurements. The improved radial velocities, combined with updated stellar parameters, consolidate our knowledge of the mass of LHS 1140 b (5.60 ± 0.19 M _⊕ ) and LHS 1140 c (1.91 ± 0.06 M _⊕ ) with an unprecedented precision of 3%. Transits from Spitzer, HST, and TESS are jointly analyzed for the first time, allowing us to refine the planetary radii of b (1.730 ± 0.025 R _⊕ ) and c (1.272 ± 0.026 R _⊕ ). Stellar abundance measurements of refractory elements (Fe, Mg, and Si) obtained with NIRPS are used to constrain the internal structure of LHS 1140 b. This planet is unlikely to be a rocky super-Earth, as previously reported, but rather a mini-Neptune with a ∼0.1% H/He envelope by mass or a water world with a water-mass fraction between 9% and 19%, depending on the atmospheric composition and relative abundance of Fe and Mg. While the mini-Neptune case would not be habitable, a water-abundant LHS 1140 b potentially has habitable surface conditions according to 3D global climate models, suggesting liquid water at the substellar point for atmospheres with relatively low CO _2 concentration, from Earth-like to a few bars.

Forecasting data does not have to be static, there are also data with high fluctuations with up and down trends. Therefore, data normalization techniques are very important before training and testing data. This paper aims to test eight types of Min-Max backpropagation algorithms with several types of data, namely static data, seational data, monotonically fluctuating data up and down. A backpropagation network architecture with three hidden layers is used to test these data. The test results show that the 6th Min-Max algorithm has a high level of accuracy. Furthermore, the results of the 6th Min-Max modification found that changes in the multiplier variable can reduce the MSE value in the training process to a maximum value of 35.25% and in the testing process to 27.39%. The results of this study can be used as a reference in the future in performing the data nornalization process before the forecasting process is carried out.

Abstract Diagnostic and decision-making processes in the 2019 Coronavirus treatment have combined new standards using patient chest images, clinical and laboratory data. This work presents a systematic review aimed at studying the Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches to the patients’ diagnosis or evolution with Coronavirus 2019. Five electronic databases were searched, from December 2019 to October 2020, considering the beginning of the pandemic when there was no vaccine influencing the exploration of Artificial Intelligence-based techniques. The first search collected 839 papers. Next, the abstracts were reviewed, and 138 remained after the inclusion/exclusion criteria was performed. After thorough reading and review by a second group of reviewers, 64 met the study objectives. These papers were carefully analyzed to identify the AI techniques used to interpret the images, clinical and laboratory data, considering a distribution regarding two variables: (i) diagnosis or outcome and (ii) the type of data: clinical, laboratory, or imaging (chest computed tomography, chest X-ray, or ultrasound). The data type most used was chest CT scans, followed by chest X-ray. The chest CT scan was the only data type that was used for diagnosis, outcome, or both. A few works combine Clinical and Laboratory data, and the most used laboratory tests were C-reactive protein. AI techniques have been increasingly explored in medical image annotation to overcome the need for specialized manual work. In this context, 25 machine learning (ML) techniques with a highest frequency of usage were identified, ranging from the most classic ones, such as Logistic Regression, to the most current ones, such as those that explore Deep Learning. Most imaging works explored convolutional neural networks (CNN), such as VGG and Resnet. Then transfer learning which stands out among the techniques related to deep learning has the second highest frequency of use. In general, classification tasks adopted two or three datasets. COVID-19 related data is present in all papers, while pneumonia is the most common non-COVID-19 class among them.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) have concepts of diagnosis and management have water balance as their main point of evaluation. In our ICU, from 2004 to 2012, the nephrologist’s participation was on demand only; and as of 2013 their participation became continuous in meetings to case discussion. The aim of this study was to establish how an intense nephrologist/intensivist interaction influenced the frequency of dialysis indication, fluid balance and pRIFLE classification during these two observation periods. Methods: Retrospective study, longitudinal evaluation of all children with AKI undergoing dialysis (2004 to 2016). Parameters studied: frequency of indication, duration and volume of infusion in the 24 hours preceding dialysis; diuresis and water balance every 8 hours. Non-parametric statistics, p ≤ 0.05. Results: 53 patients (47 before and 6 after 2013). There were no significant differences in the number of hospitalizations or cardiac surgeries between the periods. After 2013, there was a significant decrease in the number of indications for dialysis/year (5.85 vs. 1.5; p = 0.000); infusion volume (p = 0.02), increase in the duration of dialysis (p = 0.002) and improvement in the discrimination of the pRIFLE diuresis component in the AKI development. Conclusion: Integration between the ICU and pediatric nephrology teams in the routine discussion of cases, critically approaching water balance, was decisive to improve the management of AKI in the ICU.

Since the significance of viral infections in children and adolescents with nephrotic syndrome (NS) is yet to be defined, this study intended to estimate the occurrence, pattern, and outcomes of some DNA viral infections in children with NS. Methods: A prospective study was conducted to determine the genome identification of the viruses Epstein-Barr (EBV), human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6 type A and type B) and 7 (HHV-7), polyomavirus (BKV), and human adenovirus (HAdV) in plasma and urine samples of pediatric patients with NS. Results: A total of 35 patients aged 1 to 18 years with NS and under immunosuppressant drugs participated in the study. Plasma and urine samples were collected at regular intervals during a median follow-up of 266 days (range 133–595), and DNA was analyzed to detect the selected DNA viruses. Eleven patients (31.4%) had active virus infections, and patterns were classified as coinfection, recurrent, and consecutive. Of these, six patients (54.5%) presented viral coinfection, six (54.5%) viral recurrence, and seven patients (63.3%) had viral consecutive infection. Ten of the eleven patients with active infection had a proteinuria relapse (91%) and eight (72.7%) were hospitalized (p = 0.0022). Active HCMV infection was the most frequent infection and was observed in six patients (54.5%), three of the eleven patients (27.2%) had suspected HCMV disease in the gastrointestinal tract, and one had HHV-7 coinfection. The frequency of other infections was: 9% for HHV-6, 45.5% for BKV, 27.3% for HHV-7, 18.2% for EBV, and 18.2% for HAdV. Conclusion: viral infections, especially HCMV, can be an important cause of morbidity and nephrotic syndrome relapse in children.

Este artigo é resultado de uma revisão bibliográfica, a respeito da Educação Ambiental nos anos do ensino fundamental, teve como objetivo identificar como Educação Ambiental é trabalhada nessa etapa de ensino. Os conteúdos trabalhados no ensino fundamental incluem temas transversais como, meio ambiente, pluralidade cultural, educação cidadã, e são abordados perpassando todas as demais disciplinas. O professor como mediador do processo de ensino e aprendizagem, busca através das suas práticas metodológicas despertar em seus alunos uma consciência em relação ao meio ambiente, utilizando para isso, ferramentas adequadas para discutir a temática com os alunos. Nas variadas formas utilizadas no desenvolvimento da Educação Ambiental, a diversidade depende da participação da comunidade na organização de projetos, os pais de alunos desempenham um importante papel, com participação na montagem das estruturas de projetos relacionados aos estudos práticos utilizados nas escolas de ensino fundamental, tornando-se mais cooperativo, desenvolvendo expectativas sobre a recuperação do meio ambiente. A Educação Ambiental nas escolas contribui para a formação de cidadãos conscientes e capacitados para decidir e atuar na realidade socioambiental, comprometidos com o a sociedade.

Intersectoral collaboration is an essential component of the One Health (OH) approach, which recognises the interconnectedness of the health of humans, animals, and the environment. The OH European Joint Programme (OHEJP) developed a national foodborne outbreak table-top simulation exercise (SimEx) to practice OH capacity and interoperability across the public health, animal health, and food safety sectors, improving OH preparedness for future disease outbreaks. The Portuguese OHEJP SimEx highlighted strengths and weaknesses regarding the roles and functions of available systems, the constraints of existing legislation, the importance of harmonisation and data sharing, and the creation of common main messages adapted to each target sector. However, there is still a long way to go to ensure cooperation among the Public Health, Animal Health, and Food Safety sectors, as a OH approach relies not only on the awareness of “field experts” but also on political and organisational willingness and commitment.

O contexto da educação básica brasileira caracteriza-se, de modo geral, na atuação de docentes com descompassos formativos, que ministram aulas de diversas disciplinas, no caso dos anos iniciais do ensino fundamental, ou que lecionam disciplinas diversas de sua área de formação, no caso das séries finais e ensino médio. Nessa linha, diversos estudos apontam para a evidência de lacunas e imprecisões conceituais no planejamento de intervenções didáticas, devido ao precário desenvolvimento profissional. Desse modo, o presente artigo traz uma revisão teórica sistemática sobre o tema relacionado aos conhecimentos profissionais do magistério e busca contribuir com tal debate, trazendo como resultado a proposta de uma visão do processo de construção de saberes docentes com base em modelos do conhecimento pedagógico de conteúdo articulados com os processos de criação vigotskianos. Tal proposta possibilitou possíveis implicações das articulações apresentadas em associação com as pesquisas relacionadas à formação docente, bem como com propostas formativas, que levem em consideração o contexto cultural do professor, especificamente seus esquemas repertoriais, aqui representados pelo espectro criativo. Desse modo, pretende-se que os contextos formativos utilizem e incrementem o repertório professoral, repertório este fundamental para o desenvolvimento de novos Conhecimentos Pedagógicos de Conteúdo em um caráter transformativo, possibilitando práticas que permitam o desenvolvimento profissional docente.

IntroductionZika virus infection during pregnancy causes fetal microcephaly and brain damage. Congenital Zika syndrome (CZS) is characterized by systemic involvement with diffuse muscle impairment, a high frequency of arthrogryposis, and microphthalmia. Cardiac impairment in CZS has rarely been evaluated. Our study assessed morphology and biventricular cardiac function in children with CZS and advanced neurological dysfunction.MethodsThis cross-sectional study was conducted on 52 children with CZS (Zika group; ZG) and 25 healthy children (control group; CG) in Paraiba, Brazil. Clinical evaluation, electrocardiogram (EKG), and transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) were performed on all children. Additionally, troponin I and natriuretic peptide type B (BNP) levels, the degree of cerebral palsy, and neuroimaging findings were assessed in the ZG group.ResultsThe median age of the study population was 5 years in both groups, and 40.4% (ZG) and 60% (CG) were female. The most prevalent electrocardiographic alteration was sinus arrhythmia in both the ZG (n = 9, 17.3%) and CG (n = 4, 16%). The morphological parameters adjusted for Z score were as follows: left ventricular (LV) end-diastolic diameter in ZG: -2.36 [-5.10, 2.63] vs. CG: -1.07 [-3.43, 0.61], pConclusionA reduction in cardiac dimensions and functional changes were found in CZS patients, based on the TAPSE, S' of the RV, and MAPSE, suggesting the importance of cardiac evaluation and follow-up in this group of patients.

Water has a central position in the cosmovision of Native peoples in Brazilian culture. In the Andes, water is sacred and revered. However, in South America, colonial practices and the advance of agriculture and farming following industrialization has had devastating effects on cultures and ecologies. Only in recent decades has awareness started growing that there might be lessons for a sustainable future to be found in Indigenous peoples’ ways of living with water. This article conceptualizes the importance of “nature-based solutions” and illustrates this with examples from Brazil (Minas Gerais) and the Andes. It shows how ancient water practices are still present in local communities and languages, and the authors suggest ways of reinstating and protecting water-related heritage that go beyond the divides between nature and culture, tangible and intangible.

Reproducible research and open science practices have the potential to accelerate scientific progress by allowing others to reuse research outputs, and by promoting rigorous research that is more likely to yield trustworthy results. However, these practices are uncommon in many fields, so there is a clear need for training that helps and encourages researchers to integrate reproducible research and open science practices into their daily work. Here, we outline eleven strategies for making training in these practices the norm at research institutions. The strategies, which emerged from a virtual brainstorming event organized in collaboration with the German Reproducibility Network, are concentrated in three areas: (i) adapting research assessment criteria and program requirements; (ii) training; (iii) building communities. We provide a brief overview of each strategy, offer tips for implementation, and provide links to resources. We also highlight the importance of allocating resources and monitoring impact. Our goal is to encourage researchers – in their roles as scientists, supervisors, mentors, instructors, and members of curriculum, hiring or evaluation committees – to think creatively about the many ways they can promote reproducible research and open science practices in their institutions.

The Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) is considered one of the gold-standard measures to assess depression severity. To standardise the MADRS administration, a structured interview was developed (SIGMA). This study aims to translate and validate the SIGMA for European Portuguese. Twenty patients (80% women) were interviewed by ten dyads of raters (trained clinical psychologists and psychiatrists) using the European Portuguese version of the MADRS and its structured interview SIGMA. There was no significant difference in the total MADRS score between raters (interviewers and observers). The intraclass correlation for the total score between raters using the SIGMA was excellent (r = .98; p < .001). All items had excellent to good item-level intraclass correlation, and the internal consistency by rater role was good. The European Portuguese version of the SIGMA showed good preliminary psychometric properties (reliability and internal consistency). Our results suggest that the SIGMA is a useful and robust interview guide for assessing the ten depression symptoms in the MADRS, regardless of the rater clinical background.

Summary: Background: The causes for immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) are diverse and the incidence trends of IMIDs from specific causes are rarely studied. The study aims to investigate the pattern and trend of IMIDs from 1990 to 2019. Methods: We collected detailed information on six major causes of IMIDs, including asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis, between 1990 and 2019, derived from the Global Burden of Disease study in 2019. The average annual percent change (AAPC) in number of incidents and age standardized incidence rate (ASR) on IMIDs, by sex, age, region, and causes, were calculated to quantify the temporal trends. Findings: In 2019, rheumatoid arthritis, atopic dermatitis, asthma, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease accounted 1.59%, 36.17%, 54.71%, 0.09%, 6.84%, 0.60% of overall new IMIDs cases, respectively. The ASR of IMIDs showed substantial regional and global variation with the highest in High SDI region, High-income North America, and United States of America. Throughout human lifespan, the age distribution of incident cases from six IMIDs was quite different. Globally, incident cases of IMIDs increased with an AAPC of 0.68 and the ASR decreased with an AAPC of −0.34 from 1990 to 2019. The incident cases increased across six IMIDs, the ASR of rheumatoid arthritis increased (0.21, 95% CI 0.18, 0.25), while the ASR of asthma (AAPC = −0.41), inflammatory bowel disease (AAPC = −0.72), multiple sclerosis (AAPC = −0.26), psoriasis (AAPC = −0.77), and atopic dermatitis (AAPC = −0.15) decreased. The ASR of overall and six individual IMID increased with SDI at regional and global level. Countries with higher ASR in 1990 experienced a more rapid decrease in ASR. Interpretation: The incidence patterns of IMIDs varied considerably across the world. Innovative prevention and integrative management strategy are urgently needed to mitigate the increasing ASR of rheumatoid arthritis and upsurging new cases of other five IMIDs, respectively. Abstract This study aimed to analyse the role of governmental responses to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, measured by the Containment and Health Index (CHI), on symptoms of anxiety and depression during pregnancy and postpartum, while considering the countries’ Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI) and individual factors such as age, gravidity, and exposure to COVID-19. A cross-sectional study using baseline data from the Riseup-PPD-COVID-19 observational prospective international study (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT04595123) was carried out between June and October 2020 in 12 countries (Albania, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, Cyprus, Greece, Israel, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom). Participants were 7645 pregnant women or mothers in the postpartum period—with an infant aged up to 6 months—who completed the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) or the Generalised Anxiety Disorder Assessment (GAD-7) during pregnancy or the postpartum period. The overall prevalence of clinically significant depression symptoms (EPDS ≥ 13) was 30%, ranging from 20,5% in Cyprus to 44,3% in Brazil. The prevalence of clinically significant anxiety symptoms (GAD-7 ≥ 10) was 23,6% (ranging from 14,2% in Israel and Turkey to 39,5% in Brazil). Higher symptoms of anxiety or depression were observed in multigravida exposed to COVID-19 or living in countries with a higher number of deaths due to COVID-19. Furthermore, multigravida from countries with lower IHDI or CHI had higher symptoms of anxiety and depression. Perinatal mental health is context-dependent, with women from more disadvantaged countries at higher risk for poor mental health. Implementing more restrictive measures seems to be a protective factor for mental health, at least in the initial phase of the COVID-19.

Resumo Educar para a bioética é um desafio na atualidade. Ainda maior se torna este desafio, quando pensamos no ensino da bioética a estudantes de enfermagem, que irão desempenhar uma profissão que tem como expoente máximo o cuidar da outra pessoa. Tratando-se de uma profissão que implica a relação com o outro e a prestação de cuidados humanizados e adequados a cada situação específica, torna-se importante desenvolver ferramentas de ensino que promovam não só o desenvolvimento técnico e o conhecimento de como fazer, mas essencialmente o desenvolvimento de competências morais, pessoais e profissionais que conduzam a cuidados de saúde de excelência. Este artigo pretende apresentar uma reflexão sobre o ensino da bioética e a sua relação com o desenvolvimento da competência moral dos estudantes de enfermagem, assim como sugerir algumas estratégias no ensino da Bioética que potenciem a formação de enfermeiros cada vez mais competentes.

Abstract Vocal activity and signal characteristics of mammals are driven by several factors that result in both stability and plasticity over multiple time scales. All three extant species of manatee communicate with several calls that are especially important for maintaining contact between cows and calves. Determining if calf calls differ across manatee species will provide insights into the evolution of species-specific acoustic communication traits. We investigated the interspecific differences in the vocalizations of calves of Amazonian manatees (Trichechus inunguis) and the two subspecies of the West Indian manatee (T. manatus). Vocalizations of individual calves were recorded in rehabilitation centers in Brazil, Puerto Rico, the United States, and Mexico. The acoustic structure of calls produced by manatee calves varied between species and with body size. Amazonian manatee calves produced shorter calls with multiple notes at higher frequency while West Indian calves produced modulated calls that were lower in frequency and longer in duration. Smaller West Indian calves produced frequency modulated, hill-shaped calls that flattened with an increase in body length. Our results provide evidence for divergence in the ontogeny of vocalizations across T. manatus and T. inunguis and suggest variation in body size contributed to the evolution of differences in the characteristics of their calls.

The aim of reducing exploitation of the earth leads to the development of Renewable Energy Sources (RES). A technology that achieves this purpose using the solar energy is the Compound Solar Concentrator, able to increase the conveyance of the sun’s rays onto the solar cells. In this work this technology is equipped with a Coil Cooling System, to cool the system by improving the conversion efficiency. The heat absorbed by the cooling water represents usable energy in an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) system. The first part of the work is based on transient numerical simulations of the cooled Compound Parabolic Concentrator (CPC) with COMSOL Multiphysics (CM) software. The performance parameters show that after about n.20 models the improvements are contained reaching a thermal equilibrium. The selected number of cooled CPCs is n.20, reaching a temperature of the outlet water from coils of 50 °C and a flow rate composed of n.2 coils of 1.2 l/min. Exploiting this outlet water, an ORC technology is coupled from a simulation point of view with the cooled CPC, making it possible to obtain an electric and thermal efficiency of 11.73% and 60.30% respectively with a pump pressure of 20 bar.

Lyme disease is the most common vector-borne disease in North America and Europe. The clinical manifestations of Lyme disease vary based on the genospecies of the infecting Borrelia burgdorferi spirochete, but the microbial genetic elements underlying these associations are not known. Here, we report the whole genome sequence (WGS) and analysis of 299 B. burgdorferi (Bb) isolates derived from patients in the Eastern and Midwestern US and Central Europe. We develop a WGS-based classification of Bb isolates, confirm and extend the findings of previous single- and multi-locus typing systems, define the plasmid profiles of human-infectious Bb isolates, annotate the core and strain-variable surface lipoproteome, and identify loci associated with disseminated infection. A core genome consisting of ~900 open reading frames and a core set of plasmids consisting of lp17, lp25, lp36, lp28-3, lp28-4, lp54, and cp26 are found in nearly all isolates. Strain-variable (accessory) plasmids and genes correlate strongly with phylogeny. Using genetic association study methods, we identify an accessory genome signature associated with dissemination in humans and define the individual plasmids and genes that make up this signature. Strains within the RST1/WGS A subgroup, particularly a subset marked by the OspC type A genotype, have increased rates of dissemination in humans. OspC type A strains possess a unique set of strongly linked genetic elements including the presence of lp56 and lp28-1 plasmids and a cluster of genes that may contribute to their enhanced virulence compared to other genotypes. These features of OspC type A strains reflect a broader paradigm across Bb isolates, in which near-clonal genotypes are defined by strain-specific clusters of linked genetic elements, particularly those encoding surface-exposed lipoproteins. These clusters of genes are maintained by strain-specific patterns of plasmid occupancy and are associated with the probability of invasive infection.

Até o aparecimento da carbenicilina no fim da década de 60, praticamente nenhuma penicilina ou cefalosporina exibia atividade significante contra a Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Nos últimos dez anos, um número cada vez maior de antibióticos B-lactâmicos têm sido isolados; porém no INCa, somente a cefalotina, cefalexina, ampicilina e a carbenicilina estão disponíveis para o uso clínico. O baixo grau de sensibilidade da P. aeruginosa à carbenicilina em nosso hospital e a detecção de micro-epidemia por cepas resistentes à amicacina, o que pode acarretar na transmissão desta tendência às de mais cepas existentes no hospital, levaram-nos a estudar comparativamente a resposta da Pseudomonas aeruginosa, “in vitro", aos antibióticos B-lactâmicos e aos aminoglicosídeos mais utilizados.

O objetivo do presente trabalho foi desenvolver um método capaz de verificara eficácia, a nível biológico, das drogas antineoplásicas, que não necessitem de metabolismo prévio para sua ação e que atualmente estão sendo usadas no Instituto Nacional de Câncer (INCa). O princípio do ensaio foi baseado na medida de inibição da proliferação celular da linhagem K562 e de células ativadas por fitohemaglutinina (PHA), usando-se como marcadora incorporação no DNA de timidina tritiada. Conclui-se que esse ensaio não é adequado para testara atividade antitumoral do Methotrexate, mas pode ser extremamente sensível para os estudos com derivados da Vinca.

Abstract The development of a Performance Measurement System (PMS) in an organization is essential in order to adequately monitor operations and enable correct and timely decision-making. However, many organizations implement PMSs and are not successful, mainly because they neglect the design phase, which informs what has to be measured. Designing a PMS is a complex decision problem that involves multiple stakeholders. The objective of this research is to identify and prioritize the commercial performance indicators most valued by the stakeholders in this area in a company in the metal-mechanical segment. The research was divided into two stages, the first being a PO Soft (constructivist) approach: Value Focused Thinking - VFT, to identify performance indicators; and, in the second stage, the application of the PO Hard (Rationalist) Multicriteria Decision Support Method: Analytic Network Process - ANP, for modeling and prioritizing these. As a result, 30 performance indicators were identified, the most important ones being: percentage of target achievement, sales to new customers and percentage of growth for each customer. The results found proved to be capable of assisting the definition of strategy and business management in addition to the identification of indicators not monitored by the organization.

In prior studies, the skin lesion erythema migrans (EM) was present for a longer time period before diagnosis of concomitant borrelial meningoradiculoneuritis (Bannwarth’s syndrome) compared to EM patients without neurologic symptoms. To determine if this observation pertains to other manifestations of Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB), we compared EM characteristics in patients with borrelial meningoradiculoneuritis (n = 122) to those with aseptic meningitis without radicular pain (n = 72 patients), and to patients with EM but without neurologic involvement (n = 12,384). We also assessed factors that might impact duration. We found that the duration of EM at diagnosis in patients with borrelial meningoradiculoneuritis was not significantly different compared with those with LNB without radicular pain (34 vs. 26 days; p = 0.227). The duration of EM for each of these clinical presentations of LNB, however, was significantly longer than in patients with EM without LNB (10 days; p < 0.001). Contributing factors to this difference might have been that patients with LNB failed to recognize that they had EM or were unaware of the importance of not delaying antibiotic treatment for EM. In conclusion, the duration of the EM skin lesion in EM patients with LNB is longer than in patients with just EM, irrespective of the type of LNB.

Owing to their exceptional properties, which are usually determined by the growth conditions, 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) offer numerous research directions for applications in the fields of spintronics, valleytronics, and optoelectronics. Here, we focus on the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) synthesis of WSe2 (tungsten diselenide) nanoclusters/nanoflakes by using a liquid precursor for tungsten (ammonium metatungstate) on Si/SiO2, fused silica, and sapphire substrates. Various WSe2 clusters with different sizes, thicknesses, and geometries were analyzed by means of optical and atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Raman spectroscopy. The observed structures were mostly WSe2 multilayers; however, monolayer formations were also found. They showed significant morphological differences, as well as wide nucleation density and size variations, possibly related to precursor/substrate surface interactions under the same CVD synthesis conditions. The largest WSe2 domains with a lateral size of up to hundreds of micrometers were observed on sapphire, probably caused by a higher growth rate of singular nucleation sites. WSe2 domains with irregular and triangular shapes were simultaneously identified on fused silica, whereas multilayered pyramidal WSe2 structures dominated in the case of Si/SiO2 substrates. The application of polarized Raman spectroscopy to precisely determine and differentiate the characteristic vibrational modes (A1g, E2g, and 2LA(M)) enabled the unambiguous identification of 2D and/or multilayered WSe2 formations with a high crystallinity level. The presented comparative analysis of samples prepared in relatively simple synthesis conditions (moderate working temperatures and ambient pressure) provides a base for further progress of the facile metatungstate CVD method and relevant opportunities for the exploration of 2D TMDC materials.

Erythema migrans (EM) is the initial and the most frequent clinical manifestation of Lyme borreliosis (LB). Herein, we report on the capacity of culture and serology for the demonstration of Borrelia infection in a cohort of 292 patients diagnosed with typical EM at a single medical center. The median duration of EM at diagnosis was 12 days, and the largest diameter was 16 cm; 252 (86.3%) patients presented with solitary EM, whereas 40 (13.7%) had multiple EM. A total of 95/292 (32.5%) patients had positive IgM, and 169 (57.9%) had positive IgG serum antibodies; the Borrelia isolation rate was 182/292 (62.3%). The most frequent species by far was B. afzelii (142/148, 95.9%) while B. garinii (2.7%) and B. burgdorferi s.s. (1.4%) were rare. IgM seropositivity was associated with a younger age, multiple EM and the absence of underlying chronic illness; IgG seropositivity was associated with the duration of EM at diagnosis, the diameter of the EM, having had a previous episode of LB and the absence of symptoms at the site of the EM. Furthermore, the Borrelia isolation rate was statistically significantly lower in patients with positive Borrelia IgM antibodies. Although microbiologic analyses are not needed for the diagnosis of typical EM, they enable insights into the etiology and dynamics of the immune response in the course of early LB.

Infracțiunile de război, până mai ieri - circumstanțe descrise în cărțile de istorie, astăzi - evenimente sângeroase care șochează și amenință întreg mapamondul. Securitatea de orice natură a întregii lumi este amenințată de evenimentele din Ucraina. În aceste circumstanțe, este cu atât mai important să discutăm astăzi despre SECURITATE, cu cât, ne aflăm într-o perioadă în care evenimentele sociale, politice, geopolitice, planează o amenințare reală la sistemul de securitate al Republicii Moldova. Sistemul de securitate al țării noastre, pe lângă amenințările de ordin economic, social, politic, corupţional, este amenințat și de fenomenul mercenariatului, în special în situația intensificării războiului din Ucraina și a preexistenței regiunii separatiste din stânga Nistrului.

Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic had a large consequence on healthcare systems, increasing the risks of psychological issues in health professionals. Nurses, in particular, have been exposed to multiple psychosocial stressors and struggled with intensive work, insufficiency of resources and uncertainty in the face of an unknown disease. Life satisfaction might protect nurses from the consequences of chronic stress. The aim of this study was to explore the mediating role of satisfaction with life in the relationship between depression, stress, anxiety and burnout (personal, work-related, and client-related). Methods A cross-sectional, descriptive, correlational study design was performed, using an online questionnaire distributed via social networks. A total of 379 nurses completed the survey, comprising standardized measures of satisfaction with life, resilience (Resilience Scale), depression, anxiety, stress (Depression Anxiety Stress Scales), and burnout (Copenhagen Burnout Inventory Scale). A hierarchical regression model was estimated for each burnout dimension. Results Participants showed high levels of work, personal and client-related burnout, 57.3%, 57%, and 35.1%, respectively. More than 70% of the respondents had a normal level of depressive symptoms, 66.8% presented normal level of anxiety and 33.5% of the respondents reported mild, moderate, severe or extremely severe symptoms of stress. The results revealed that life satisfaction partially mediated the association between stress and personal burnout, depression and work-related burnout, and the association between anxiety and client-related burnout in nurses. Conclusions The COVID-19 pandemic brought added difficulties for nurses’ work conditions, whereby it became necessary to develop adaptative measures that reduce stressors in work environment and promote nurses’ life satisfaction.

RESUMO A transição dos anos 80 para os 90 aponta para o crescimento de um novo padrão de industrialização e desenvolvimento. Nesse processo, novas formas de organização intra e inter firmas se desenvolvem. O objetivo deste artigo é caracterizar a “nova” forma de organização das empresas, a “rede”, e discutir os fundamentos teóricos que sustentam esse novo tipo de configuração da gestão das interdependências entre os agentes econômicos. Identificam-se duas linhas principais, centradas, respetivamente, na alocação e na criação de recursos, que dão visões distintas do processo de organização e da delimitação das inter-relações entre as empresas.
