Background: The availability of a valid scale to measure family-centered care (FCC) in intensive care units (ICUs) is of utmost importance. Purpose: the present study aimed to develop and test the psychometric properties of a new tool for measuring FCC in ICUs from the perspectives of patients' family members. Method: This methodological study was conducted from May 2018 to November 2019 at two Iranian universities of medical sciences. The scale items were thus designed based on the integration of the findings of a qualitative study and the results of a literature review. Then, face validity and content validity of the given scale were assessed. A total number of 204 and 203 family members of patients admitted to ICUs were recruited through convenience sampling method to examine construct validity via exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. The data were also analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics (Version 25) and AMOS software. The reliability of this scale was ultimately tested using Cronbach's alpha and test-retest correlation. Results: In the initial design, a 35-item scale was obtained. As face validity and content validity were determined, the number of items reduced to 26 cases. Following exploratory factor analysis, a 20 item scale containing 5 components (factors) including dignity, receiving information, support, family empowerment, and access to the physician, accounting for 63.4% of the total variance of the scale was developed. The reliability of this research tool was found acceptable based on Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient by 0.89 and 0.93; respectively. Conclusions/Implications for Practice: This study concluded with the development of a new scale for measuring FCC in ICUs entitled "FCCS-ICU". Accordingly, administrators and nurses are suggested to practice it to measure the extent and the manner of FCC implementation in ICUs from the perspectives of patients' family members. The present aimed to examine the effect of the health belief model-based empowerment program on the caring behaviors of mothers with preterm infants. A quasi-experimental study with before-after design was conducted on 40 mothers with preterm infants. They were selected using a convenience sampling method. The intervention was four 30-minute sessions of the empowerment program based on the health-belief model. The instrument for data collection included the demographic data questionnaire, health belief model-based questionnaire, standard self-efficacy questionnaire, and a checklist of mothers' caring behaviors. Data was collected twice at the neonatal intensive care unit and once at the participant's homes. It was found that except for the cues to action and perceived barriers constructs, the empowerment program led to significant changes in the other model constructs including perceived susceptibility (p < 0.003), perceived severity (p < 0.001), perceived benefits (p < 0.005), self-efficacy (p < 0.001), knowledge (p < 0.001) and care behaviors (p < 0.001). This article examines the culture of family-centered care (FCC) in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) using focused ethnography. Data collection strategy was participant observation, fieldwork, and interviews with main actors of the PICU, namely supervisors, nurses, and parents. This study took place in one PICU in a hospital in Tehran, Iran. The results were in the main named as paternalism and were presented as five themes: 'non-possessed environment,' 'separation of the children from their parents,' non-interactive communication,' 'limited participation,' and 'affection and sympathy combined with superiority.' In conclusion, the prevailing atmosphere in care was paternalistic as there was a huge gap between conceptually or theoretically accepted application of FCC in PICU and what is practically administrated. Bridging such a gap between theory and practice can be helpful in improving social, environment, and organizational culture for the children, their parents, and health care providers as well as their performance in the context of PICU. Background: Although today parents' participation in taking care of hospitalized children is considered as an indispensable principle, it is still among the concepts with no consensus about. The main objective of this study is to define parents' participation in taking care of hospitalized children. Materials and Methods: The concept of "parents' participation in taking care of hospitalized children" was analyzed using a hybrid model in three phases: Literature review (theoretical phase), fieldwork, and combination of literature review and fieldwork (analytical phase). Results: Based on the results of theoretical (literature review), fieldwork, and analytical phases, the best definitions for the concept of "parents' participation in taking care of hospitalized children" are mutual relationship and gaining parents' trust toward nurses, giving the required information and education to the parents about care and treatment process, assigning the needed home care to the parents, involving the parents in caregiving process, and finally, defining their participation in decision making (clarifying the parents' role) in order to improve the quality of care given to the children. Conclusions: The findings of this study showed that the dimensions of parents' participation can be applied in pediatric wards, and nurses can improve the quality of care through application of the obtained findings. Background and purpose: Diabetes type 1 is a chronic disease in children during their childhood, which may have unfavorable effects on children, family and society. By enhancing self-care in children having diabetes type 1, we can reduce these effects. Self- care in children also can be affected by factors such as family reaction. The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between self-care in diabetic children and their family's reaction. Materials and methods: This research is a non-experimental and correlative study which determines and specifies the relationship between diabetic self- care in children, who are affected by diabetes and their family's reaction. 133 children between the ages of seven to fourteen suffering from diabetes type I were chosen with above continuous method for two months from selected centers. Collecting information, observation and questionnaire forms were used. Results: The results obtained from this study, showed there is a meaningful relationship between child's self-care and reaction of their family (p=0.000). Variants such as age, sex, rank of birth and length of disease period are not considered as an interfering element in relation between self caring and family reaction. Conclusion: The results from this research reveal that the self caring of children in an average level has a direct influence and relationship with family reaction and at the same time, the direct and strong correlation with the diabetic child's knowledge regarding their functions and performances. We suggest that educational programs should be provided for these children and their families, in order to promote self caring of children and their family's reaction. Aim: The present study aimed to evaluate the predictive role of the Health Belief Model (HBM) constructs and health literacy (HL) in shaping the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) preventive health behaviors (PHBs) among adolescents., Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 503 adolescent girls and boys, randomly selected via cluster sampling. For this purpose, the data were collected online through four research tools, including the demographic-clinical characteristics information questionnaire, the COVID-19 PHB Scale based on HBM, and the Health Literacy Scale for COVID-19. The data analysis was then performed by regression analysis along with the structural equation modeling (SEM), considering the significance level of 0.05., Results: The regression analysis results demonstrated that following the one-unit increase in the values of self-efficacy and cues to action, the COVID-19 PHBs elevated by 0.063 and 0.078 units, respectively. In addition, the COVID-19 PHBs subsided by 0.018 with the rise in the value of perceived barriers ( P < 0.001). According to the path analysis, the direct path from the COVID-19-related HL to the COVID-19 PHBs (B = 0.097, β = 0.087, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.005 to 0.189) was significant. Background: Caregiver burden threatens the psychological, emotional, functional and even physical health of caregivers. The aims of this study were to determine caregiver burden and family distress and the relationship between them, also to explore predictors of caregiver burden in a sample of Iranian family caregivers of cancer patients., Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with correlational design. A total of 104 family caregivers of cancer patients were asked to respond to the Caregiver Burden Inventory (CBI) and the Family Distress Index (FDI) together with a sociodemographic questionnaire. For evaluating the relationship between CBI and FDI scores, the Pearson's product-moment correlation was used. In addition, multiple linear regression analysis was applied to explore the predictive factors of caregiver burden., Results: A high burden was experienced by almost half of the caregivers (48.1%). The FDI mean score was 9.76 ± 5.40 ranged from 0 to 24. A strong positive correlation was found between the caregiver burden and family distress ( r = 0.76). Multiple linear regression results showed the predictive role of FDI score (β = 0.71, P = 0.001), patient's gender (β = -0.25, P = 0.001), and early cancer diagnosis (β =0.13, P = 0.027) in caregiver burden. They could explain 65% of variance in the level of burden in family caregivers., Conclusion: Family nurses should consider the caregivers burden and vulnerability of families with cancer patient, especially if the patient is a male or has a new diagnosis.
