52. Wie und warum der Kitt gekaut wird

Abstract

Der Roman von Ferenc Molnár, einem der bedeutendsten ungarischen Schriftsteller und Journalisten, „A Pál utcai fiúk“ erschien erstmals 1906 und gehört seitdem zu den meistgelesenen und beliebtesten Romanen in Ungarn. Da das Werk in der Grundschule als Pflichtlektüre gilt, sind die Schüler mit den zur Jahrhundertwende verwendeten Wörtern wie grund, einstand und gittegylet vertraut, wobei die Begriffe gittegylet sowie rágja a gittet, die den Untersuchungsgegenstand dieser Arbeit bilden, auch heute noch verwendet werden, allerdings nicht mehr im wortwörtlichen, sondern eher im übertragenen Sinn. Das Buch wurde mit großem Erfolg in zahlreiche Sprachen übersetzt (und siebenmal verfilmt). Bei der Übersetzung gab es bestimmte Umstände, die unbedingt zu beachten waren, so auch die Tatsache, dass sich die Bedeutung der beiden Begriffe seither auch im Ungarischen verändert hat. Da das Wort Kitt im Deutschen neben der wortwörtlichen Bedeutung auch in ihrer abstrakten Bedeutung verwendet wird, bedarf es glücklicherweise nicht allzu viel Erklärung für die zielsprachlichen Leser. Der Beitrag setzt sich zum Ziel, einerseits die kulturelle Einbettung zweier kulturspezifischer Elemente in der Ausgangssprache darzustellen, andererseits die Möglichkeiten zu untersuchen, auf welche Weise diese kulturelle Einbettung den Lesern der Zielsprache nahegebracht werden kann.

Abstract

The highly infectious disease COVID-19 caused by the Betacoronavirus SARS-CoV-2 poses a severe threat to humanity and demands the redirection of scientific efforts and criteria to organized research projects. The international COVID19-NMR consortium seeks to provide such new approaches by gathering scientific expertise worldwide. In particular, making available viral proteins and RNAs will pave the way to understanding the SARS-CoV-2 molecular components in detail. The research in COVID19-NMR and the resources provided through the consortium are fully disclosed to accelerate access and exploitation. NMR investigations of the viral molecular components are designated to provide the essential basis for further work, including macromolecular interaction studies and high-throughput drug screening. Here, we present the extensive catalog of a holistic SARS-CoV-2 protein preparation approach based on the consortium’s collective efforts. We provide protocols for the large-scale production of more than 80% of all SARS-CoV-2 proteins or essential parts of them. Several of the proteins were produced in more than one laboratory, demonstrating the high interoperability between NMR groups worldwide. For the majority of proteins, we can produce isotope-labeled samples of HSQC-grade. Abstract

The aim of our study is to briefly summarise the course of the negotiations in Komárno and the First Vienna Award, and to give an insight into how the Hungarian and Slovak press of the time commented on the events. The Hungarian press blamed the Slovak party for the breakdown of the negotiations, saying that the Czechoslovak party was trying to stall for time and that it had not offered Hungary a number of territories with a predominantly Hungarian-speaking population. The Slovak papers, on the contrary, blamed the Hungarian party for the breakdown of the negotiations because of its excessive territorial claims. The Hungarian newspapers reported the outcome of the First Vienna Award with great joy and enthusiasm, while the Slovak press, of course, was negative. Although the First Vienna Award resulted in an ethnically much more equitable borderline between Hungary and Slovakia than it was before, the “Hungarian times” did not last long in the life of the Hungarian minority in southern Slovakia. After the Second World War, the First Vienna Award was annulled, as was the Munich Agreement. The Paris Peace Treaty, signed by Hungary on 10 February 1947, reaffirmed Hungary’s Trianon borders, which once again put the Hungarians in Slovakia in a disadvantaged and minority position. Abstract

Juices, wines, and extracts from plants contain high concentrations of various chiral compounds such as carboxylic acids or sugars. Several prior studies reported the synthesis of metallic and semiconducting nanoparticles relying on components of complex biological solutions. Herein, we present preparation of chiral CdS and CdSe quantum dots (QDs) using apple juice and red wine via phase transfer ligand exchange. Although both apple juice and red wine contain a complex mixture of chiral and achiral compounds, we have successfully used them for selective induction of predicted chiroptical properties and confirmed L‐malic acid from the apple juice and L‐tartaric acid from the red wine as the chiral inducers. This work illustrates the capability of using complex mixtures to construct chiral QDs with desired chiroptical properties as well as potential of QDs to selectively report a chiral molecule in a complex chiral mixture without the need for elaborate chiral recognition system. 74. API és VITEK 2 mint baktérium meghatározási módszerek összehasonlítása

Abstract

A hagyományos baktérium meghatározási módszerek sok helyet igényelnek, s már több tíz évvel ezelőtt is drágának és lassúnak tartották őket a rutin klinikai használatra. A tudomány és technológia fejlődésével az 1970-es évek körül megjelentek az első meghatározási rendszerek ezen problémák megoldására. A baktériumok gyorsabb azonosítását és antibiotikum érzékenységi vizsgálat elvégzését pedig a napjainkban egyre jobban terjedő és égető kérdéssé váló rezisztencia kialakulása is fontossá teszi. Az API (bioMérieux, Marcy l’Etoile, France) egy manuális, a VITEK 2 (bioMérieux, Inc. Hazelwood, MO) pedig egy automatizált fenotípusos mikroorganizmus azonosító rendszer. Tesztpaneljeiken található miniatürizált biokémiai tesztjeik és hozzá tartozó adatbázisaik segítségével ezek a kereskedelmi rendszerek több száz baktériumfaj gyors, egyszerű és pontos meghatározását ígérik. Dolgozatom célja ennek a két rendszernek a bemutatása. Összesen 88 minta került vizsgálatra, melyből 39 a Ceva-Phylaxia Zrt. MEO Mikrobiológia részlegének saját, fagyasztva tárolt baktériumtörzs gyűjteményéből származott.

Technological and economic innovations cannot respond to all social challenges. Natural and material resources are becoming ever scarcer, so it is necessary to use investment assets, maximizing social and economic efficiency. It is a major task to address the backwardness originating from regional disparities and to create opportunities for catching up in peripheral regions. The study, based on the process-oriented model defined in our previous studies and the determination of the social innovation potential, tries to determine the relationship between social innovation potential, the spatial position of developmental image, and regional differences and population change in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. Abstract

The national and international literature pays increasing attention to the research of social innovation and its impacts. Among the areas to be examined, we deal with the issues of measurability within the framework of the study. The conceptualization of social innovation, the determination of the logic of the social innovation process and the definiton of its measurement levels, and modeling based on empirical research are relevant challenges. However, the different sources dealing with the topic examine these issues in a different approach. The purpose of the study is to investigate the social innovation endeavours of a district to be developed by a complex program. Nyírbátor District includes disadvantaged settlements that are facing numerous problems due to their peripheral position. The challenges of the area (migration, ageing, unemployment and scarce financial resources) mean doubly disadvantageous stigmatization for these settlements. On the one hand, they mean an external negative judgment, and on the other hand, an internal stigmatization processes of local inhabitants, which require the exact identification of local needs and the involvement of the inhabitants in decisions. One of the tools of such initiatives can be social innovation, and also the support of social innovation endeavours. Within the framework of the research, we examine social innovation as a process of creative cooperation, during which we pay special attention to the analysis of social initiatives supported by local governments. The social innovation endeavours presented in the framework of the study are multi-stakeholder initiatives based on the involvement of the local population.. Their good practice analysis makes it possible to map the process of social innovation. The purpose of this study is to present the points of focus that serve as potential activating factors for the endeavours in the case of Nyírbátor District. The examined cases play a significant role in managing the unfavourable processes of the area, and their adaptation as best practices can support the process of catching up. Abstract

This study defines a process-oriented framework for measuring social innovation. The paper presents a practical example of measuring social innovation potential. We introduce the indicator groups used and their contents. Through a map interpretation we demonstrate the spatial representation of the input, output, impact and complex indicators. The objective of this approach is to draw attention to the settlements/groups of settlements where the socio-economic bases of social innovations can best be found in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. Abstract

The study defines a process-oriented framework for measuring social innovation. Social initiatives focus on meeting the needs of the community and solving their problems The local, community-based innovative ideas have a significant role. During the systematic operation of innovation, the starting point (expression of local needs) and the definition of short and long term goals as induction factors are involved in the innovation process. The starting conditions are widening in the transformation with incentive and inhibiting factors, while the stakeholders of the innovation process are also determined. As a result of the transformation, territorial-specific results will be created complementing the economic and / or social impact of the given innovation. Indicators that help measure social innovation initiatives can be identified as prerequisites, conditions of implementation and sustainability criteria, defining the structured conditions of the innovation process per phase. In addition, several levels of social innovation efforts are possible. Measuring macro-level social innovation, it is necessary to examine regional contexts, with the method of analysis of the connection network, and also with a systematic approach. Regional social innovation measurement can be used to analyze local and regional cooperation and initiatives. The study analyzes the conditions and measurement possibilities of micro-level social innovation, their generating potential and investigates the speed of organizational innovation. An example of good practice in the municipality is presented as a case study, defining the conditions that help to evaluate social innovation by determining a process-oriented framework.

94. Changes in Cryopreserved Cell Nuclei Serve as Indicators of Processes during Freezing and Thawing

Abstract

The mechanisms underlying cell protection from cryoinjury are not yet fully understood. Recent biological studies have addressed cryopreserved cell survival but have not correlated the cryoprotection effectiveness with the impact of cryoprotectants on the most important cell structure, the nucleus, and the freeze/thaw process. We identified changes of cell nuclei states caused by different types of cryoprotectants and associate them with alterations of the freeze/thaw process in cells. Namely, we investigated both higher-order chromatin structure and nuclear envelope integrity as possible markers of freezing and thawing processes. Moreover, we analyzed in detail the relationship between nuclear envelope integrity, chromatin condensation, freeze/thaw processes in cells, and cryopreservation efficiency for dimethyl sulfoxide, glycerol, trehalose, and antifreeze protein. Our interdisciplinary study reveals how changes in cell nuclei induced by cryoprotectants affect the ability of cells to withstand freezing and thawing and how nuclei changes correlate with processes during freezing and thawing. Our results contribute to the deeper fundamental understanding of the freezing processes, notably in the cell nucleus, which will expand the applications and lead to the rational design of cryoprotective materials and protocols.

Abstract

Competitiveness has become a major topic of economic and business studies over the last 20 years. In the 1980s, the focus of the study on innovation and competitiveness was corporate-level analysis. Subsequently, the focus shifted towards examining the role of larger communities, as the innovation performance of the community is decisive. The identification and study of actors involved in the implementation of innovation is of utmost importance for successes, and creates the need for investigation at multiple levels. In addition to the company's innovation capabilities, the innovation potential at regional and national level is also relevant. One of the features of successful companies is the complex interpretation of innovations (continuous and radical innovations simultaneously), which gives them a competitive advantage. Innovation is connected to the unique value, creating the competitive advantage that is decisive for competitiveness of an organization, region or even national economy. But there is the question: how can innovation be quantified in the development of competitiveness. In this paper we concentrate on social innovation and its connection to competitiveness at micro, mezo and macro level and the paper represents a literature review of the theoretical work in the field.
