Abstract

[Resumen] A partir de pruebas de simulación de lluvia se estudia la respuesta hidromorfológica de diferentes microambientes de campos abandonados en pendiente del Pirineo (valle de Aísa). Los resultados muestran pérdidas de suelo moderadas en los microambientes con buen cubrimiento vegetal, tanto si es de matorral como de herbáceas, y relativamente más elevadas en el enlosado de piedras. La disminución de la vegetación implica incrementos considerables en el coeficiente de escorrentía y en las pérdidas de suelo. [Abstract] Using a rainfall simulator the authors have studied the hydromorphological response of different micro-environments of abandoned sloping fields (Aísa Valley, Pyrenees). The results show moderate sediment losses in microenvironments with a good vegetable cover of shrub or meadows. The erosion is more important in fields with a stone pavement. The diminution of the vegetation involves considerable increments of the runoff coefficients and the erosion rates.

Abstract

The spatio-temporal evolution of the farmland in two Spanish mountain areas (the Aragonese Pyrenees and the Iberian System of La Rioja, Cameros Viejo) is studied with relation to the particular geoecological features of each mountain and its capacity for integration into the national economy. A drastic desertion process during the fifties in the Pyrenees and a later slowing down was observed; Cameros however shows a slower farmland reduction in the first stage and an acceleration during the sixties. The original desertions are clearly linked to the farming capacity of the land, whereas the more recent desertions have more to do with their ability to become part of the national economy through pastureland resources and tourism. -English summary

Abstract

Secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) depth profiling has been applied to the study of the thermal annealing of ohmic contacts for high electron mobility transistors. The metallic stacks (Ti/Al/Ni/Au) were deposited over the Al0.28Ga0.72N/GaN/sapphire heterostructures and subjected to a rapid thermal annealing (850 °C for 30 s under N2 atmosphere) to improve the contact performance. The surface morphology and the in-depth chemical distribution of the layered contacts were severely modified due to the treatment. These modifications have been analyzed by SIMS depth profiling and scanning electron microscopy–energy-dispersive X-ray microanalysis. The SIMS analysis conditions have been optimized to achieve simultaneously good sensitivity and to avoid ion-induced mixing effects produced by the primary beam sputtering. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Two siblings, from consanguineous parents, developed in their twenties a Parkinsonian syndrome. In the elder, the disease evolved for 13 years and the necropsic study was diagnostic of Hallervorden-Spatz disease. The younger sibling is severely affected after 12 years of the disorder. Several CT and one MR studies done in this patient during the last 4 years have been normal. Ultrastructural studies of the bone marrow histiocytes and blood lymphocytes disclosed peculiar inclusions. Bromocriptine in low doses proved to be a beneficial therapy for this patient. 93. Irradiance-dependent depth profiling of layered materials using laser-induced plasma spectrometry

Abstract

Laser-induced plasma spectrometry (LIPS) is an appealing technique for depth profiling purposes due to its capabilities for performing fast analysis in air at atmospheric pressure without limitations of sample size or nature. At a fixed laser wavelength, pulse width, experiment geometry and sample type, the irradiance is the factor that will affect both the averaged ablation rate and depth resolution. In the present work, a detailed description of the effect of laser irradiance on averaged ablation rate and depth resolution of Ni–Cu-coated brass samples is presented. The results demonstrate that the best depth resolution does not correspond with the minimum ablation rate. Several facts concerning the redeposition of material around the rim of the craters and energy gradients in the laser beam are proposed to explain the experimental results.
