Higher education is being challenged as is the unionization of faculty. This combination could create a climate where faculty may need to strike. The purpose of this research is to describe the lived experiences of striking faculty to bring a greater understanding of what faculty may incur. This research utilized a phenomenological approach with a combination of composite narratives and in vivo coding to describe the lived experiences of striking. With the number of layoffs, strikes and threats of striking, this research is timely in understanding what striking entails and how it can best be navigated for the benefit of the faculty. There were 333 striking faculty of which twenty-seven were interviewed. Three themes developed and will be discussed. First, how the faculty's perception of the Union can influence their experience and willingness to remain on the picket line. Second, realizing a striker's experience is not monolithic, as realized in the differing experiences of the two campuses of Wright State. Lastly, surprising themes emerged, such as mental health issues surrounding financial, work and family struggles throughout the duration of the strike. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A large body of literature describes the occupational gender wage gap at the national labor market level as well as in specific occupations. Yet, among those studies of within-occupational inequality, few have focused on how occupational career change affects gender wage inequality. With an increasing number of female workers entering into the police labor force as well as the high turnover rate in the police sector, it is important to explore wage changes in this highly unionized and hyper-masculine occupation. Using two-wave panel data from the Current Population Survey Merged Outgoing Rotation Group (CPS-MORG) from 1979 to 2016, this study examines how change in occupational career along with change in union membership may lead to different wage rewards or penalties for police men and police women. Our findings reveal that individuals experience a large increase in wages when joining the police occupation, and this wage bonus is greater for women than for men. Furthermore, individuals joining the police as well as a union see a wage bonus, but wage loss when leaving the police and a union. Overall, police men have a larger wage loss than police women when leaving the police force and losing union membership. Policy implications of these findings are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We explore whether municipalities with public sector unions exploit aspects of governmental (or "fund") accounting to obscure the availability of discretionary resources in fund balance accounts, relative to municipalities without public sector unions. We first investigate whether governments with unions report higher proportions of discretionary resources outside of the general fund, a primary measure of financial health, and instead within less prominent fund types. Second, we explore whether governments with unions report lower ratios within accessible general fund balance account categories – that is, report lower proportions of unreserved fund balance. Primary findings are consistent with both hypotheses. Although somewhat mixed, cross‐sectional analyses reveal that effects are magnified when unions have more bargaining power, as proxied by the ability to strike or the absence of state right‐to‐work laws. Further analysis corroborates cross‐sectional findings by examining difference‐in‐differences specifications surrounding the quasi‐exogenous shock of Wisconsin's 2011 weakening of state public sector union laws and Ohio's time‐varying union contract negotiations. Overall, the evidence suggests that governments with unions shelter resources to avoid the appearance of large discretionary amounts available. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The Norwegian working life and welfare model has contributed to creating a society with high income for citizens, relatively low social inequality, good public health and high trust. Main part: Based on extensive research literature we focus on what we regard is the core of the Norwegian working life and welfare model. In addition, we make clear how this model has contributed to characteristics often associated with a good society. A decrease in unionization is, in combination with increased globalization, atypical employment contracts and automation, a factor that may weaken the Norwegian working life and welfare model. Conclusion: In an international perspective, public health is good in Norway. This is closely related to how the country’s working life and welfare model has been designed. As an important professional group within public health work, it is important that physiotherapists are aware of these relationships.

Introduction: Distal femoral shaft fractures are characterized by their increasing incidence and complexity, presenting a significant challenge in management. The objective of this retrospective study was to compare the clinical and radiological results of patients with extra-articular distal third femoral shaft fractures treated using either retrograde Talon Distal Fix nail or a distal femur locking plate. Material and Method: The study comprised 40 patients aged >18 years who presented at our hospital with a distal third femoral shaft fracture between January 2017 and January 2023. The patients were divided into two groups: Group TDN, treated with retrograde Talon Distal Fix nailing (n=18), and Group DLP, treated with a distal locking plate (n=22). Demographic data, follow-up period, operating time, time to union, range of motion (ROM), mechanism of injury (traffic accident, fall from height, workplace accident, gunshot injury), fracture type, complications, and surgical method were retrospectively recorded. Clinical evaluation included deformity, knee ROM, pain, and the knee total score (KSS) for walking and knee stability. Results: The mean age of the patients was 48.03±12.31 (min-max: 23-69) years, and the mean follow-up time for all patients was 15.88±2.32 (12-21) months. The mean time to union was 25.55±1.86 (22-30) weeks. Delayed union and non-union rates were similar between the research groups (P=1.000, P=0.673, respectively). Union time (weeks) and mean ROM were not significantly different between the groups (P=0.881, P=0.892, respectively). The mean operation time of the TDF group (48.78±3.94 minutes) was significantly lower than that of the DLP group (62.45±3.33 minutes) (P

A directed rough fuzzy graph (DRFG) is a unique and innovative hybrid model because it deals with more complex problems of uncertainty in the presence of incomplete data information or rough universe. A DRFG can be obtained from two given DRFGs by union, Cartesian product and composition. When we study operations for DRFGs with a large number of vertices, the degree of vertices in a DRFG presents a confusing picture. Therefore, a mechanism for determining the degree of vertices for DRFG operations is needed. The main objective of this study is to analyze and investigate the degree of vertices in DRFGs formed by certain operations, which will provide clear explanations of operations on DRFGs and their effects on vertex degrees with examples. In this paper, we find the degree of a vertex in DRFGs formed by these operations in terms of the degree of vertices in the given DRFGs in some special cases. We explain these operations with some examples. In addition, we provide an application to the corporate merger problem to test our approach and obtain an optimal result. We have developed two algorithms to elaborate the procedure for our application. Finally, we created a comparison table comparing our results for Algorithms 1 and 2 for the same enterprise merger network.

This dialogue concerns the 105th anniversary of the Union of Bessarabia with Romania and a review of the activities, carried out together with Mr. Constantin Toma, the Mayor of Buzău Municipality and Mr. Marius-Adrian Nicoară, doctor in history, honorary councilor of the Buzău City Hall. Here are highlighted the relations of the municipality of Buzau with different localities from the Republic of Moldova, through the cultural, economic and interpersonal partnerships developed by the entities of the administrative-territorial units. Among these projects are the signing of the “Declaration of Union” on March 15, 2018; reconstruction of the Dniester River embankment, on the segment in front of the Citadel of Soroca; the inauguration of the busts of Ion Inculeț and Alexandru Marghiloman, on March 27, 2023, in Ialoveni; expansion of the “Petru Costin” Museum; The scientific conference “105 years since the Union of Bessarabia with Romania. Where power grows... The lesson of history and dignity of the year 1918” held in the Union Hall of the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts in Chisinau; the commitment to rehabilitate the building by bearing all costs by the Buzău Local Council; a substantial book donation; the concert “The Romanian language is my homeland”; the “Chisinau for Buzau” project; the series of scientific conferences generically named “Zilele Alexandru Marghiloman” et al.

Alexandru Marghiloman was one of the most brilliant politicians in our contemporary history. His exceptional qualities as well as a superlative training made him the most suitable man to fulfill a role of great importance in our history – the completion of national unity. Brought to the helm of the Council of Ministers, he had to face almost insurmountable hostilities from the representatives of the Central Powers, with whom he was for the entire period of almost half a year, while he was at the head of the government. Overcoming these difficulties, but also the disloyal attitude of the King who, after using him, at the suggestion of the Camarilla, asked and received his resignation at the exact moment when he was approaching the completion of national unity. The Marghiloman government (March – October 1918) was, therefore, a sacrificial government, which, thanks to the competence, tenacity, patience and insistence of the Prime Minister, managed through perseverance and wisdom to achieve what it set out to do when it was installed – saving the Dynasty, stability and the Army of the country.

The union of Bessarabia with Romania, in 1918, also had a particular impact on education, economy, mentality, the development of visual and audiovisual arts and, of course, on the patrimony of the country. Now, the subject of the cultural heritage of the Republic of Moldova is frequently approached by historians, anthropologists, specialists in the field of arts studies. In this article, we set the objective to make a retrospective of the itinerary traveled by the cultural heritage of Bessarabia in these 105 years. The evolutionary processes to which this heritage was subjected over the years (in the interwar period, in the years of the Second World War, during the Soviet period and during the 32 years of independence of the Republic of Moldova) were investigated, the share of the treasure held in 1918 was determined, specifying what values we lost, what patrimony was stolen, destroyed especially during the Soviet period and what we have to restore, to rebuild for posterity. Since the idea of cultural heritage is very complex, in our approach we presented a synthesis of its evolution, bringing in this way a tribute to the Generation of the Union for the achievement of Greater Romania. The great act of the Union of Bessarabia with Romania, made in Chisinau, on March 27, 1918, remained as an act of courage. It’s up to us to keep it alive the memory of those who contributed to a real history lesson of 1918 and to join our efforts to safeguarding, valorizing and promoting our cultural heritage, which we value in order to pass it on to those who will continue our message and activity.

The article addresses the fate of the deputies of the first Bassarabian legislative body – Sfatul Țării (the Council of Country) and of the members of the Government of the Moldavian Democratic Republic, who contributed to the creation of the unified Romanian State by voting on the Declaration of Unification of Bessarabia with Romania on 27 March 1918. Bessarabia and Bessarabians were among the first to declare their desire and will to reunite the territory of the Romanian nation. They were also among the first to suffer from the political changes and the territorial seizures in the late 1940s. Some of them had to leave forever their native land in order to ensure the safety of their families, and those, who for various reasons have remained, were accused by the organs of the communist totalitarian regime and condemned to various humiliating punishments, imprisoned in the worst jails, communist camps. The duty of the modern generation is to honor and commemorate the actions of our ancestors.

Objective: To determine the combined column tibial plateau fracture treated with a hybrid external fixator in terms of knee functionality, union outcome and complications. Method: The quasi-experimental study was conducted at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Mayo Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan, from July 5, 2019, to December 31, 2021, and comprised patients of either gender aged 20-50 years who presented with 2-column or 3-column fractures of proximal tibia classified according to the 3-column classification system after being diagnosed using radiographs and three-dimensional computed tomography scan. Knee function, union and complications, like neural, vascular, infection, delayed union, nonunion, malunion and implant failure, were evaluated. The Knee Society Score was used to assess knee function, and modified Rasmussen score for the union, while complications were assessed clinically on the 2nd, 6th, 12th, 16th, 24th, 36th weeks and one year post-operatively. Data was analysed using SPSS 26. Results: Of the 113 patients, 91(80.53%) were males and 22(19.47%) were females. The overall mean age was 35.56±9.00 years. From the 12th week to the 24th week 45(39.83%) patients had good and 59(52.21%) patients had excellent functional outcomes. Union outcome in the 16th and 24th week was good in 57(50.44%) patients and excellent in 47(41.59%) patients. No neurovascular injury was observed. Superficial pin tract infection was observed in 21(18.6%) cases that healed with wound debridement and antibiotics. No delayed union, malunion and implant failure was observed. Conclusion: Good to excellent functional and union outcomes with minimum complications were observed with the hybrid external fixator. Key Words: Tibial plateau fracture, Knee joint, Hybrid external fixator, Union, Combined column.

The National Union of Road Transport workers (NURTW) is the main transport organization in Nigeria and has replaced local governments in most garages of the country. The NURTW exercises its authority in Lagos garages through its own set of rules, qualified here as garage laws. They aim at providing revenues for the union, for state institutions, for police bodies and at ordering motor parks and disciplining drivers. Based on observations and 80 interviews with unionists, the article looks at the ways these laws are implemented by unionists and agberos or local touts turned into union workers. Some rules depend on the authority of union chairmen but most of them are routinized and powerful mainly because they are co-produced by the union and state institutions. Understanding garage laws helps to move beyond visions reducing transport unions as mafia organizations and states in Africa as weak institutions unable to implement state laws.

Graph theory has various applications in computer science, such as image segmentation, clustering, data mining, image capturing, and networking. Fuzzy graph (FG) theory has been widely adopted to handle uncertainty in graph-related problems. Interval-valued picture fuzzy graphs (IVPFGs) are a generalization of FGs, interval-valued FGs, intuitionistic fuzzy graphs (IFGs), and interval-valued IFGs. This paper introduces the concept of interval-valued picture fuzzy sets to graph theory and presents a new type of graph called the IVPFG. Within this framework, we define the degree, order, and size of IVPFGs. The paper further explores various operations on IVPFGs, including the Cartesian product, composition, join, and union. The paper delves into the properties of these operations, providing proofs and examples to support the findings. By studying the operations on IVPFGs, we can gain insights into their behavior and leverage this knowledge for solving graph-based problems in the presence of uncertainty. Also, an application regarding merging of community is provided.

Objective: To compare the outcome of humeral shaft fractures treated by functional cast brace versus "U" slab in terms of union. Study Design: Quasi-experimental study Place and Duration of Study: Department of Orthopaedic Surgery/Traumatology Unit-II, Mayo Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan from Jul to Dec 2018. Methodology: One hundred and four patients fulfilling inclusion criteria were included. Patients were randomised into two groups by random tables. Group-A patients were treated with a "U" slab outdoors, and Group-B patients were treated with a customised functional brace from the Orthopaedic workshop as indoor cases. Results: The mean age of patients was 47.99±14.15 years, with minimum and maximum ages of 16 and 65 years, respectively. According to the operational definition, the union was achieved in 88(84.6%) patients. In Group-A, 38(73.1%) patients and in Group-B, 50(96.2%) patients had union. A significant association between union and study Groups was noted, i.e. Group B had a high union rate when compared to Group A, with a p-value of 0.001. Conclusion: To conclude, in patients with humeral shaft fracture, a functional cast brace is a better choice for achieving union as it reduces the burden of non-union, and patients recover early, assessed by callous formation.

GOD , *VIRTUES , *MARRIAGE age - Abstract
For Eckhart, God is indistinct to creation; that is, supremely immanent or present to it. What, then, is left to be said about the creature's union with God? Surely all the work is already done? Eckhart answers: yes and no. This paper traces the philosophical meaning of difference and sameness, distinction and indistinction, and finally transcendence and immanence in Eckhart's thought. This does not yield the idea that we should straightforwardly turn from our composite nature in order to achieve union with God (a position long attributed to Eckhart). Instead, it shows that through an asymmetrical relation we become indistinct to God in virtue of our distinction; we are to discover union through our composite nature. Necessarily this means union with God is simultaneously and perpetually complete and incomplete. This follows from the fact that God is beyond the oppositional structure between distinction and indistinction, transcendence and immanence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the past five decades, the doctrine of deification has experienced a renaissance within the Protestant West. While biblical scholars have exhibited greater reticence to ascribe explicitly deiform intentions to Scripture than their theologian counterparts, this article traces the recent emergence of interest in interpreting Pauline soteriology as deification. Intriguingly, scholars within this burgeoning line of inquiry of scholarship represent a host of interpretative schools (e.g. apocalyptic, new perspective on Paul) and methodological approaches (exegetical, history-of-religion, reception history, theological interpretation), yet nevertheless affirm broadly similar portrayals of the deiform contours and content of Paul's doctrine of salvation. UNDERGROUND movements , *PARLIAMENTARY practice - Abstract
Underground movements are understandably reluctant to record the names and numbers of their adherents because any such compilation is manifestly a hostage to fortune. Hence very few lists of politically active Jacobites actually compiled by the Jacobites themselves have survived to the present day. In the French foreign ministry archives at La Corneille, however, there is a rare and previously unknown/unused example of such a list. 'The Rolls of Parliament as they stand', is a classic printed, marked list of all the lords entitled to sit in, and commissioners elected to, Queen Anne's Union Parliament. It identifies the political allegiances of the great majority of the sitting commissioners and peers, and in particular the Jacobites among them. Rather better known, yet hitherto seldom consulted or used, is a debriefing document describing the political alignment of a great many of those in parliament and the general political inclination of their constituents written by Captain Harry Straton for the Jacobite King James III and VIII in August 1706. These two sources are the basis of the analysis that follows. The focus is on what these two Jacobite analyses of the state of Scotland and Scottish politics can tell us about the political dynamics of the Scottish Parliament and the country more broadly on the eve of the Union debates. 81. Labour Commodification in the Employment Heartland: Union Responses to Teachers' Temporary Work.

- Abstract
This article analyses the commodification of professional labour and union responses to these processes within the employment heartland. It explores the category of fixed-contract or 'temporary' employment using Australian public school teaching as the empirical lens. Established to address intensifying conditions of labour market insecurity, the union-led creation of the temporary category was intended to partly decommodify labour by providing intermediate security between permanent and 'casual' employment. However, using historical case and contemporary survey data, we discern that escalation of temporary teacher numbers and intensifying work-effort demands concurrently increased insecurity within the teacher workforce, constituting recommodification. The article contributes to scant literature on unions and commodification, highlighting that within the current marketised context, labour commodification may occur through contradictory influences at multiple levels, and that union responses to combat this derogation of work must similarly be multi-level and sustained. UNDERGROUND movements ,PARLIAMENTARY practice - Abstract
PRISON labor , *STRUGGLE , *ARCHIVAL materials , *UNSKILLED labor , *PUNISHMENT - Abstract
The 1970s saw incarcerated laborers engage in an unprecedented battle to secure recognition, rights, and protections. This article traces the rise of the Prisoners Union, the largest and most prominent organization of its sort, as it endeavored to elevate the standing of captive labor. Through qualitative analysis of archival materials, this work unpacks penal laborers' classification struggles aimed at advancing status in the penal field and rejoining the ranks of the working class. Investigating this movement's successes and failures enhances empirical knowledge of prison organizing as well as theoretical understandings of classification struggles, and helps contextualize historic penological developments. - Abstract
Teresa of Avila (1515-1582 AD) introduced the theory of the Interior Castle (the Seven Mansions) as a path towards union with God and the attainment of His divine presence. Since Teresa was not a classical theoritician, it raises the question of how much influence Hekhalot (the Seven Halls for attaining divine visions) had on the presentation of her theory. The hypothesis of this paper is that Teresa was influenced by Hekhalot. The writing of this article proved the validity of the aforementioned hypothesis and demonstrated that Teresa incorporated concepts and terminology from Hekhalot into the structure and development of her theory, with repeated references to the ancient covenant, particularly the book of Ezekiel, as one of the sources of Hekhalot. Emphasizing on the role of contemplation in achieving union and overcoming obstacles to union, Teresa was influenced by Hekhalot. Comparing the seven mansions with the seven halls reveals significant similarities that indicate Teresa's adoption of Hekhalot in presenting the theory of the Interior Castle. Both the mansions and the halls aim for the vision of unity and the unity of vision, with the difference being that Teresa associates vision with union and Hekhalot with encounter. However, this does not imply that Teresa had mastery over the reading and study of Hallucination; rather, she drew from the prevailing mystical literature of Avila, which contained these opinions and teachings. - Abstract
The optimal protocol for postoperative immobilization following operative treatment of scaphoid fractures remains controversial. Reports of successful management with brief postoperative immobilization suggest that earlier restoration of function may be achieved by limiting the duration of immobilization. However, the risk of nonunion and its associated complications suggest that a more conservative approach with extended immobilization could optimize fracture healing. This paper presents a thorough review of the relevant literature and summarizes the myriad postoperative immobilization protocols and their reported outcomes. Postoperative immobilization protocols and reported outcomes for displaced, comminuted, and proximal pole fractures are discussed separately. The literature is reviewed following different operative techniques, including open reduction internal fixation and percutaneous screw fixation. Vigilant postoperative care of scaphoid fractures managed surgically is warranted to monitor for signs of nonunion while attempting to regain motion and strength to the injured wrist. A report by Jane McAlevey and Abby Lawlor, illustrates best practices for building the power to win in today’s challenging union climate and features a series of case studies in collective bargaining during the four years under Trump. They cover four key employment sectors: teachers, nurses, hotel workers, and journalists. In each case, workers used high transparency and high participation approaches in contract campaigns to build worker power. Each victory points a path to raising workers’ expectations of what is possible to win at the negotiations table today.

Abstract: Introduction: Proximal humerus fractures are the third most frequent type of fracture in elderly patients. Nowadays, surgical treatment is indicated one third of the time, being the reverse shoulder prosthesis an option especially in complex comminuted patterns. In this study we analyzed the effects of a lateralized reverse prosthesis in tuberosity union and its relationship with the functional results. Material and methods: Retrospective case study of patients with proximal humerus fractures treated with a lateralized design reverse shoulder prosthesis with one-year minimum follow-up. Tuberosity nonunion was defined as a radiological concept: absence of tuberosity, distance > 1 cm from the tuberosity fragment to the humeral shaft or tuberosity above the humeral tray. Subgroup analysis was performed, group 1 (n = 16) tuberosity union vs. group 2 (n = 19) tuberosity nonunion. Groups were compared with the following functional scores: Constant, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and Subjective Shoulder Value. Results: A total of 35 patients were included in this study with a median age of 72.65 years. Postoperative radiographic analysis at one year after surgery revealed a tuberosity nonunion rate of 54%. Subgroup analysis revealed no statistically significant differences in terms of range of motion or functional scores. However, there were differences regarding the Patte sign (p = 0.03) which was positive in a larger proportion of patients in the group with tuberosity nonunion. Conclusion: Even though there was a large percentage of tuberosity nonunion with the use of a lateralized prosthesis design, patients obtained good results in a similar manner to those found in the union group in terms of range of motion, scores, and patient satisfaction.

The article deals with the constructive properties of the union chto ... chto ... and its semantic features due to them. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that for the first time in Russian studies the union chto ... chto ... is described by analyzing its constructive properties. In this case, the main attention is paid to the morphological and syntactic characteristics of the word forms included in the scope of this union, the principles of their relationship with each other, as well as external links with syntactic structures in which the union construction as a whole is involved. An additional toolkit is the etymological characteristic of chto ... chto ... The theoretical significance lies in the proposed description algorithm, which can be used to characterize similar means of syntactic communication. The results obtained are compared with the constructive properties of the union khot’ … khot’ …, identified earlier using a similar algorithm. Based on this, not only the semantics of both means of syntactic communication is specified. It has been established that, due to its constructive properties, the union chto ... chto ... seeks to level the semantic differences between the composed alternatives, while khot’ … khot’ …, on the contrary, focuses on opposing them to each other.

METALWORK , *SCREWS , *ARTHRODESIS , *ANKLE , *UNIVARIATE analysis - Abstract
Objective: Ankle arthrodesis (AA) is often fixed using cannulated screws. The irritation from metalwork is a relatively common complication, but there is no consensus regarding the need to remove the screws on a systematic basis. The aim of this study was to determine (1) the proportion of screws removed after AA and (2) whether predictors of screw removal could be identified. Methods: This PRISMA-compliant systematic review was part of a larger previous protocol registered on the PROSPERO platform. Multiple databases were searched including studies in which patients undergone AA using screws as exclusive fixation method were followed. Data were harvested regarding the cohort, the study design, the surgical technique, the nonunion and complication rate at the longest follow-up. Risk of bias was assessed using the modified Coleman Methodology Score (mCMS). Results: Forty-four series of patients from thirty-eight studies (1990 ankles, 1934 patients) were selected. The average follow-up was 40.8 months (range 12–110). In all studies, hardware was removed due to symptoms reported by patients and related to the screws. The pooled proportion of removal of metalwork was 3% (95% CI 2–4). The pooled proportion of fusion was 96% (95%CI 95–98), while the pooled proportion of complications and reoperations (excluding the removal of metalwork) stood at 15% (95% CI 11–18) and 3% (95% CI 2–4), respectively. The mean mCMS (50.8 ± 8.1, range 35–66) revealed only an overall fair quality of studies. The univariate analysis and the multivariate model showed that the year of publication (R = − 0.004; p = 0.01) and the number of screws (R = 0.08; p = 0.01) were associated with the screw removal rate. Specifically, we found that over time the removal rate decreased by 0.4% per year and that the use of three screws instead of two reduced the risk of removal of metalwork by 8%. Conclusions: In this review, removal of metalwork after ankle arthrodesis using cannulated screws was needed in 3% of cases at an average follow-up of 40.8 months. It was indicated only in case of symptoms related to soft tissue irritation from screws. The use of three screws was paradoxically related to a reduced risk of removal of screws as compared to two-screw constructs. Level of evidence: Level IV, systematic review of Level IV. Background: Combined ipsilateral femoral neck and shaft fractures are rare and present a challenging management dilemma. This study aims to assess the outcome of concomitant fixation of the ipsilateral femoral neck and shaft fracture using single versus dual surgical implants. Methods: A single-center retrospective analysis of patients who underwent fixation of ipsilateral femoral neck and shaft fractures was performed over a 13-year period. Different techniques were employed to fix the complex injury. Both the reduction and the union time were assessed radiographically. Results: A total of 36 patients with ipsilateral femoral neck and shaft fractures were retrospectively identified and included in the study. Twenty-four patients (66.6%) were managed with a single cephalomedullary nail, while the remaining cases were treated with two devices. All cases were operated on within an average of 3.7 ± 7.1 days. Eight patients (22.2%) developed postoperative complications. The average follow-up period was 7.3 ± 6.8 months. Although there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups, the femoral neck fractures showed shorter union time in patients treated with one implant compared to patients treated with two implants (3.0 ± 2.3 months vs. 4.2 ± 2.6 months). Another observation was that higher percentages of implant removal/failure and malunion/nonunion were seen in patients who had one implant compared to the two implants group (12.5% vs. 8.3%). Conclusion: Early surgical fixation of both fractures is associated with good outcome results. No difference in outcome was observed between both groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CHRISTIAN missionaries - Abstract
This article demonstrates analytic theology's contribution to missiology by turning to T.F. Torrance's theology of mission as a test case. Upon examining Torrance's missiological contribution, it becomes apparent that his notion of the end of mission—the personalization of humanity—is conceptually fuzzy. I demonstrate how analytic theology can clarify, and further develop, this aspect of Torrance's missiology, and thus conclude that if analytic theology can help to bring clarity to the missiological proposals of one missional theologian, then perhaps analytic theology might lay claim to the possibility of playing a greater role within the discipline of missiology. Studying collective action in the platform economy against the backdrop of the informal economy in India, I make two arguments that show how work organization in the platform economy enables collective action and distinguishes it from the informal sector. First, I argue that platform work organization through algorithmic work allocation, high employer visibility and algorithmic rather than direct managerial control makes collective action possible. In the informal economy, layers of middlemen often obscure the employment relationship by denying workers a clear contender and the opportunity to develop relationships of solidarity. Second, platform workers address their demands to two targets: the platform company and the state. Informal worker unions have no single, identifiable employer and traditionally confine their demands to the state. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AUTOMATION ,PANEL analysis - Abstract
Automation creates winners and losers. By examining establishment-level panel data, we explore how labour unions affect labor adjustment associated with automation. Although automation can increase new hires of junior and unskilled production workers, the presence of labour unions neutralizes these effects. The results suggest that labour unions have incentives to protect incumbent workers negatively affected by automation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
