- Abstract
Ata Murat Han is one of the leaders of the Turkmen rebellion that started in Khiva after the murder of the Khivian Khan Muhammet Emin Khan by Teke Turkmens in Merv in 1855. Never compromising and not obeying the Khiva khans from the beginning of the uprising until its end in 1867 makes him the most important figure in the uprising. He was chosen as khan by Yomut tribe, which he relied on at the beginning of the uprising, collaborated with Uzbek and Karakalpak rioters and after a long struggle with Khivian Khans he left Khiva and went to the coast of the Caspian Sea. After serving in the Russian base in Kizilsu for a while, he participated in the invasion of Khiva, which the Russians carried out in 1873, and later settled in Khiva and completed his life there. It is understood that in his struggle against the Khiva he aimed to take over the Khanate completely, in addition to eliminating the pressure exerted on the Turkmens, and he requested assistance from the Russians several times. It can be considered that the rebellion was unsuccessful in that he had to leave the Khiva in 1867 and did not occupy a particular position after the occupation of Khiva. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
