Sunflower oil consumption in Turkey has been increasing for the past decade due to dietary and health concerns. However, consumption of sunflower oil exceeds its production. Efforts have been made to overcome the production deficit for the last decade by importing the oil, but this deficit has continued to increase. The aim of this study was to explore Turkish consumer behaviour with respect to sunflower oil consumption in the city of Erzurum. Factor and regression analyses were used to determine significant factors related to sunflower oil attributes and the socioeconomic and demographic characteristics of the consumers. To this end, factor and multiple linear regression analyses using the SPSS statistical program were carried out on the data from a 250-household survey. The results show that consumer satisfaction with sunflower oil and its price play an important role in consumer buying decisions and the amount bought is related to sunflower oil attributes. With regard to consumer buying power and frequency, vegetable oil expenditures are directly affected by the stage of the life-cycle and job position. These factors also play an important role in consumer buying attitudes and behaviour. These findings are also beneficial to marketers, manufacturers and retailers for product design and developing new marketing tactics and strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Hypothalamic hamartoma (HH) is a rare condition that causes epilepsy and central precocious puberty (CPP) at an early age. In this report, we describe a child with CPP secondary to HH and discuss the current literature., Case Presentation: A 26-month-old girl was brought to our hospital for evaluation of breast enlargement. Her parents were first-degree relatives. Her breast development was categorized as Tanner stage 3, and her bone age was 7 years/4 months. Laboratory investigations were consistent with CPP. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a smooth, spherical lesion in the hypothalamus, located in the tuber cinereum and measuring 11 × 9 × 10 mm. The lesion was identified as a HH. The patient was started on gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogue therapy, specifically 200 μg/kg/month of leuprolide acetate (3.75 mg depot) administered intramuscularly every 28 days. During the 2-year follow-up, her breast development remained at Tanner stage 3, and she did not develop axillary or pubic hair. Her bone age was 7 years/6 months (chronological age; 4 years/2 months). 2-year follow-up MRI showed no change in the size or contours of the HH compared with the initial diagnosis. No side effects from the medical treatment were observed during the follow-up period., Conclusions: In patients under the age of 4 years showing signs of CPP, HH should be considered as diagnosis. The attitudes of anatomists toward donating their own bodies are a question of matter in the literature of medicine. The aim of the study was to evaluate the attitudes of Turkish anatomists regarding the donation of their own bodies as teaching material after death. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among anatomists in Türkiye during the months of March and April 2023. An online survey was carried out by means of a questionnaire constructed using Google Forms©. The survey consisted of a demographic data part, Likert-type multiple choice questions, open-ended questions, and yes-no questions. The questionnaire was answered by 133 anatomists from the anatomy departments in Türkiye. The mean age was 38.9 ± 7.30 years. 48% of the anatomists who answered were male and 52% were female. Most of the participants have a religious belief (90%). All of the participants with religious beliefs were members of the Islamic religion. Approximately 5% of the participants stated that they donated their bodies as cadavers. Anatomists suggested increasing body donation by 76.7% as a solution to cadaveric insufficiency. Although most anatomists state that there is a need for body donation, the rate of donating their own bodies seems quite low. We think that anatomists accept the importance of body donation, but they do not think of themselves as donors. They only recommend body donation to other people. We think that programs and activities should be planned especially for those who are uncertain about body donation and those who only donate organs but do not donate bodies., (© 2023 The Authors. Motivation: Computational analysis of large-scale metagenomics sequencing datasets have proven to be both incredibly valuable for extracting isolate-level taxonomic, and functional insights from complex microbial communities. However, due to an ever-expanding ecosystem of metagenomics-specific methods and file-formats, designing studies which implement seamless and scalable end-to-end workflows, and exploring the massive amounts of output data have become studies unto themselves. One-click bioinformatics pipelines have helped to organize these tools into targeted workflows, but they suffer from general compatibility and maintainability issues., Methods: To address the gap in easily extensible yet robustly distributable metagenomics workflows, we have developed a module-based metagenomics analysis system: "Core Analysis Metagenomics Pipeline" (CAMP), written in Snakemake, a popular workflow management system, along with a standardized module and working directory architecture. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is characterized by chronic inflammation in the gut. There is growing evidence in Crohn's disease (CD) of the existence of a preclinical period characterized by immunological changes preceding symptom onset that starts years before diagnosis. Gaining insight into this preclinical phase will allow disease prediction and prevention. Analysis of preclinical serum samples, up to 6 years before IBD diagnosis (from the PREDICTS cohort), revealed the identification of a unique glycosylation signature on circulating antibodies (IgGs) characterized by lower galactosylation levels of the IgG fragment crystallizable (Fc) domain that remained stable until disease diagnosis. This specific IgG2 Fc glycan trait correlated with increased levels of antimicrobial antibodies, specifically anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae (ASCA), pinpointing a glycome-ASCA hub detected in serum that predates by years the development of CD. Mechanistically, we demonstrated that this agalactosylated glycoform of ASCA IgG, detected in the preclinical phase, elicits a proinflammatory immune pathway through the activation and reprogramming of innate immune cells, such as dendritic cells and natural killer cells, via an FcγR-dependent mechanism, triggering NF-κB and CARD9 signaling and leading to inflammasome activation. This proinflammatory role of ASCA was demonstrated to be dependent on mannose glycan recognition and galactosylation levels in the IgG Fc domain. The pathogenic properties of (anti-mannose) ASCA IgG were validated in vivo. Adoptive transfer of antibodies to mannan (ASCA) to recipient wild-type mice resulted in increased susceptibility to intestinal inflammation that was recovered in recipient FcγR-deficient mice. Here we identify a glycosylation signature in circulating IgGs that precedes CD onset and pinpoint a specific glycome-ASCA pathway as a central player in the initiation of inflammation many years before CD diagnosis. Objective: The primary objective was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of a deep learning-based artificial intelligence model for the detection of acute appendicular fractures in pediatric patients presenting with a recent history of trauma to the emergency department. The secondary goal was to examine the effect of assistive support on the emergency doctor's ability to detect fractures., Methods: The dataset was 5,150 radiographs of which 850 showed fractures, while 4,300 radiographs did not show any fractures. The process utilized 4,532 (88%) radiographs, inclusive of both fractured and non-fractured radiographs, in the training phase. Subsequently, 412 (8%) radiographs were appraised during validation, and 206 (4%) were set apart for the testing phase. With and without artificial intelligence assistance, the emergency doctor reviewed another set of 2,000 radiographs (400 fractures and 600 non-fractures each) for labeling in the second test., Results: The artificial intelligence model showed a mean average precision 50 of 89%, a specificity of 92%, a sensitivity of 90%, and an F1 score of 90%. The confusion matrix revealed that the model trained with artificial intelligence achieved accuracies of 93 and 95% in detecting fractures, respectively. Artificial intelligence assistance improved the reading sensitivity from 93.7% (without assistance) to 97.0% (with assistance) and the reading accuracy from 88% (without assistance) to 94.9% (with assistance)., Conclusion: A deep learning-based artificial intelligence model has proven to be highly effective in detecting fractures in pediatric patients, enhancing the diagnostic capabilities of emergency doctors through assistive support.

Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common musculoskeletal problem in pregnancy. The aim of this study is to compare the effects of rigid and elastic wrist splints on edema, pain levels, grip strength, and upper-extremity functionality in pregnant women with CTS., Methods: Forty-one pregnant women in the last trimester of pregnancy who were diagnosed with CTS were included in the study. The grip strength was evaluated with the Jamar hand dynamometer, functionality with the Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand and Boston Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Questionnaire, pain with the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and edema with the water overflow method., Results: The mean age of the participants was 31.71 ± 5.78 years, body mass index was 28.85 ± 3.63 kg/m 2 , duration of pain was 2.24 ± 0.79 months, and their pain intensity was 6.63 ± 1.69 according to the VAS. As a result of the study, reductions in pain ( P = .001), increases in functionality values ( P = .001), increases in grip strength ( P = .001), and decreases in edema ( P = .001) were observed in both groups after the treatment. However, there was no significant difference in pain, functionality, or grip strength values between the groups after the treatment ( P > .05)., Conclusion: In this study comparing the effects of a wrist splint to those of an elastic splint, both treatment methods for pregnant women with CTS decreased pain and edema, increased grip strength, and improved upper-extremity functionality. Objectives: Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) can be increased in a benign condition known as benign-transient hyperphosphatasemia (BTH). We aimed to evaluate the demographic, and clinical characteristics of infants and children with BTH., Methods: In our retrospective study, infants and children diagnosed with BTH between September 2019 and September 2023 were included., Results: Of 249 children with elevated ALP levels, 95 (38.1 %) had BTH. The mean age at diagnosis of children with BTH was 2.4 ± 1.3 years (min 0.6 - max 6.2 years). ALP mean value was 2,587 ± 1252 U/L (min 972 - max 5757 U/L). ALP value was an average 7.4 ± 3.6 times higher than the corresponding upper limit of normal. The second measurement was made after an average of 13.2 ± 6 days, and a statistically significant difference was detected compared to the first value, with a decrease of 61 ± 23 % in the ALP value (p<0.001). ALP value returned to normal in an average of 44 ± 29.2 days. Elevated ALP was detected during infection in 49 (51.6 %) children. When the sample was divided into those under 2 years of age and aged 2 and over, no statistical difference was observed in ALP levels in the time it took for ALP levels to return to the normal range (p=0.480)., Conclusions: BTH should be kept in mind if high serum ALP is detected in children without clinical or laboratory suspicion of bone or liver disease. This experimental study investigates the effect of blade phase angle on noise attenuation in two adjacent, electronically synchronized propellers. Acoustic measurements were performed in an aeroacoustic wind tunnel with a distributed electric propulsion system that involved the adjustment of relative phase angles of 2-bladed propellers between Δψ = 0° and 90°. Ranges of advance ratios (J = 0-0.73) were investigated at a fixed propeller rotation speed of 5000 rpm. The investigation explored the impact on noise directivity and frequency characteristics. The findings reveal significant reductions in noise directivity and tonal noise at the blade pass frequency (BPF). A relative phase angle of Δψ = 90° demonstrated the maximum noise reduction, with an 8 dB decrease at the first BPF and a 2 dB reduction in overall sound pressure level at J = 0. For in-flow conditions (J > 0), a relative phase angle of Δψ = 90° resulted in significant noise reductions of about 24 dB in the first BPF and 6 dB in overall sound pressure level, compared to Δψ = 0°. Despite the successes of immunotherapy in cancer treatment over recent decades, less than <10%-20% cancer cases have demonstrated durable responses from immune checkpoint blockade. To enhance the efficacy of immunotherapies, combination therapies suppressing multiple immune evasion mechanisms are increasingly contemplated. To better understand immune cell surveillance and diverse immune evasion responses in tumor tissues, we comprehensively characterized the immune landscape of more than 1,000 tumors across ten different cancers using CPTAC pan-cancer proteogenomic data. We identified seven distinct immune subtypes based on integrative learning of cell type compositions and pathway activities. We then thoroughly categorized unique genomic, epigenetic, transcriptomic, and proteomic changes associated with each subtype. Further leveraging the deep phosphoproteomic data, we studied kinase activities in different immune subtypes, which revealed potential subtype-specific therapeutic targets. Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate whether the measurement of mean optic nerve sheath diameter in patients with transient ischemic attack could be used to distinguish between control groups, the acute ischemic stroke group, and subgroups within the acute ischemic stroke category., Methods: Retrospectively, the mean optic nerve sheath diameters of patients aged 18 years and older belonging to control, transient ischemic attack, acute ischemic stroke, and subgroups within the acute ischemic stroke category were measured with initial computed tomography conducted in the emergency department., Results: Out of the 773 patients included in the study, 318 (41.1%) were in the control group, 77 (10%) had transient ischemic attack, and 378 (49%) were categorized as stroke patients. The average mean optic nerve sheath diameter was significantly higher in both the stroke and transient ischemic attack groups compared with the control group (p<0.001 for both comparisons). Furthermore, the mean optic nerve sheath diameter in the stroke subgroups was significantly higher than in both the transient ischemic attack and control groups (p<0.001 for all comparisons). In transient ischemic attack patients, the mean optic nerve sheath diameter showed a significant ability to predict transient ischemic attack (AUC=0.913, p<0.001), with a calculated optimal cutoff value of 4.72, sensitivity of 94.8%, and specificity of 73.9%., Conclusion: The mean optic nerve sheath diameter of patients in the transient ischemic attack group was lower compared with those in the stroke subgroups but higher compared with the control group.

Study Design: Randomized controlled study., Introduction: Mirror therapy is a rehabilitation strategy based on the repeated use of the mirror illusion and also one of the treatment choice of brachial plexus injuries., Purpose: We aimed to determine the effects of mirror therapy combined with a routine rehabilitation program on upper limb motor function in children with obstetric brachial plexus injury., Methods: Twenty children with obstetric brachial palsy were included in this study. They were randomly allocated to either control (n = 10) or mirror therapy (n = 10) group. The following clinical tools were used to assess the upper extremity function: Active Movement Scale (AMS), Modified Mallet Scale (MMS), Hand Grip Strength (HGS) Test, Finger Grip Strength (FGSM) Test, Box and Block Test (BBT), Nine Hole Peg Test (9-HPT), and goniometric measurement. Both groups received the same routine physiotherapy program for 8 weeks. The study group underwent mirror therapy in addition to the rehabilitation program., Results: The mean age of the study population was 11.35 ± 4.12 years. There was no change in the goniometric values, AMS and MMS scores after the treatment in both groups (p > 0.05), except for the improvement of the wrist extension in the study group (p < 0.05). There was an increase in both HGS and FGS scores in the study group. Only FGS scores improved in the control group after the intervention (p < 0.05). 9-HPT and BBT scores improved in both groups (p < 0.05). All other parameters tested were comparable between the two groups after the treatment., Conclusions: The results of this study did not show any additional benefits of mirror therapy combined with a rehabilitation protocol compared to routine physiotherapy treatment, but was not adequately powered to do so., (Copyright © 2022. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate whether craniofacial asymmetries could be a predictor of spine asymmetries or not., Methods: Female individuals aged between 18 and 25 years participated in this cross-sectional descriptive-analytic study. The angle of trunk rotation was measured by a scoliometer in conjunction with the Adams forward-bending test. Individuals in the control group (n = 57) had spinal curvature of 0 to 3 degrees, and individuals in the study group (n = 53) had spinal curvature of between 4 and 6 degrees. Facial anthropometric measurements of individuals were evaluated by referencing anatomical landmarks determined on the face with 2-dimensional photogrammetry using ImageJ (Version 1.53q) program., Results: Both groups were similar in terms of facial measurements (P > 0.05). Axial trunk rotation values of the mid-thoracic and thoraco-lumbar regions were significantly higher on both sides of the asymmetry group (P < 0.05). Purpose: To investigate the effects of dual task (DT) balance exercises on functional status, balance, and DT performance in children with Down Syndrome (DS)., Methods: Participants were divided into two groups: intervention group (IG; n  = 13) and control group (CG; n  = 14). WeeFIM was used to measure the functional independence level and balance was evaluated using the Pediatric Balance Scale. DT performance was assessed using Timed Up and Go, Single Leg Stance, Tandem-Stance and 30 s Sit to Stand tests without concomitant task, with motor task or cognitive task. The IG received 16 sessions of DT training twice a week for 8 weeks., Results: Functional level, balance, and DT performance improved significantly in the IG, whereas only balance improved in the CG. Significantly better results were achieved in the IG, as demonstrated by greater pre/post-treatment changes., Conclusion: DT balance exercises improved functional level, balance and DT performance of children with DS.

Introduction:  This study aimed to compare the dual-task and cognitive skills of problematic video gamers and non-problematic video gamers based on the fact that cognitive skills (e.g., inhibition, decision-making, attentional control, time perception) and dual-task performance may be positively affected in individuals who play games., Methods: The study was conducted on 62 individuals. The study group (n=33) consisted of individuals who played games, and the control group (n=28) consisted of non-gamers. Their scores on exercise benefits and barriers perception, cognitive performance, cognitive skills, and dual-task performances were measured. The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scale was used to evaluate cognitive function, and the Trail Making Test (TMT) was used to determine attention, speed, and better motor performance. The Stroop test was used to evaluate executive functioning., Results: It was determined that the problematic game players group was faster at the Stroop 1 and Stroop 2 test times (respectively p=0.020, p=0.005). Objective: Physical therapy modalities are often used by patients with migraine pain. The effectiveness of the methods in the treatment of migraine has not been clarified yet. This prospective study was planned to investigate whether facial proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation is superior to connective tissue massage in the treatment of migraine pain., Methods: The study was conducted on 40 female patients with a neurologist-confirmed diagnosis of chronic migraine with non-aura, and who were aged between 18 and 65. They were randomly divided into 2 groups. Facial proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation techniques were applied to the patients in the study group (Group 1), and connective tissue massage was applied to the patients in the control group (Group 2). The interventions were performed 3 times a week for approximately 20 minutes. Pain and pressure pain threshold scores were recorded on the first day of treatment before starting the session and were reassessed immediately after the end of the 18 treatment (6 weeks) sessions., Results: Pretreatment and posttreatment results were similar in both groups in terms of pain scores and pressure pain threshold values ( P > 0.05). Both groups improved in pain-related outcomes ( P < 0.05)., Conclusions: Our results suggest that facial proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation was no more effective than connective tissue massage for treating migraine for the sample size used in the present study. Background: The orbicularis oris muscle is an important muscle for oral perception in mouth and swallowing rehabilitation. The muscle can be affected in patients with multiple sclerosis for many reasons. It is important to understand the quantitative changes in this muscle to determine the many problems associated with the cranio-facial region in multiple sclerosis. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the mechanical properties of the orbicularis oris muscle between MS patients and healthy individuals., Methods: A total of 55 individuals (28 with multiple sclerosis and 27 healthy) who met the inclusion criteria were evaluated. The tone and viscoelastic properties (elasticity and stiffness) of the superior orbicularis oris muscle of both groups were evaluated bilaterally in the supine position with the MyotonPro® (Myoton AS, Estonia) device. The reference point of the muscle is accepted as the right and left paramedial philtrum dimple., Results: It was observed that there was no difference in terms of stiffness values of the right and left orbicularis oris muscles of both groups (p>0.05). The tone and the elasticity of the muscle on both sides were higher in the HI group than MS group (p<0.05)., Conclusion: We think that the orbicularis oris muscle has a central location in the facial region, and that this muscle may be the key muscle for the symptoms arising from many neurological mechanisms. Background: This study aimed to determine the impact of complex decongestive therapy applications on upper extremity function in breast cancer patients who developed adhesive capsulitis after lymphedema., Methods: Thirty patients who developed adhesive capsulitis due to lymphedema were divided into two groups as study (n = 15) and control (n = 15) groups. Both groups received 20 minutes of exercise five days a week for three weeks using a Biodex isokinetic dynamometer, as well as a hot pack and TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) treatment to the shoulder joint. The study group received 45 minutes of intensive decongestive therapy along with the adhesive capsulitis treatment. The visual analogue scale was used to assess pain, circumference, and volumetric measurements were used to assess edema, and the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand Problems Questionnaire (DASH: Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand) was used to assess upper extremity functionality. The shoulder range of motion was evaluated., Results: Both groups had improvements in pain ( P < 0.001), shoulder joint range of motion ( P < 0.001), and upper extremity functionality ( P < 0.001) after the treatment. There was a significant decrease in circumference and volumetric measurements in the study group ( P < 0.001). However, no differences were seen in measurements in the control group., Conclusions: The results showed that complex decongestive therapy was beneficial in reducing lymphedema in breast cancer patients who acquired adhesive capsulitis due to lymphedema. Consequently, the authors believe that supplementing conventional physiotherapy with complex decongestive therapy will benefit patients.
