Abstract

In this study, a normally-off AlGaN/GaN metalâ€"insulatorâ€"semiconductor field-effect transistor (MIS-FET) based on the combination of tri-gate and recessed MIS gate is fabricated and characterized. The recessed tri-gate MIS-FET is manufactured by micro-level trenches, defining the fin-shaped channel and improving the gate control capability. The recessed surface is cleaned by a diluted buffered oxide etch, HCl solution, and tetramethylammonium hydroxide treatment before a 20 nm Al2O3 deposition by atomic layer deposition. After deposition, post-deposition annealing was carried out. Recessed tri-gate MIS-FET demonstrates a high threshold voltage of 3.1 V, a high drain current of 1121 mA mmâˆ'1, and an on/off current ratio of 2 Ă— 108. A smaller on-resistance of 5.4 Ω mm compared with recessed planar MIS-FET of 12.7 Ω mm is achieved. Besides, the devices show a low I â€" V hysteresis. All experimental results confirm micro-level trenches realize the advantages of the recessed tri-gate structures, which supports a promising technique to pursue the normally-off operation of GaN high electron mobility transistors. Abstract

This paper focuses on the sound of heeled shoes. First, the paper will point out the importance of sound in the design field. Even though sound design is a key point of product design, few paper have studied it. In our daily lives, most of the products make sounds. This research looks at the sounds of heeled shoes. We will use SD method to do the experiment. In the end we hope to know what people feel about the different sounds, the difference between male and female perceptions, and the effect of different materials on the sense of the sound.

Abstract

Despite numerous studies, there has been little progress in the use of biomarkers for predicting treatment response in patients with tuberculosis (TB). Patients with culture-confirmed pulmonary TB between 2010 and 2014 were prospectively recruited. Blood samples were taken upon diagnosis and 2 months after the start of standard anti-TB treatment. A pilot study utilizing measurement of TB-antigen-stimulated cytokines was conducted to select potential biomarkers for further testing. Outcome was defined as persistent culture positivity at 2 months into treatment. Of 167 enrolled patients, 26 had persistent culture positivity. RANTES, IL-22, MMP-8, IL-18, MIG, and Granzyme A were selected as potential biomarkers. For predicting persistent culture positivity, receiver-operating characteristics (ROC) analysis showed that initial RANTES (AUC: 0.725 [0.624–0.827]) and 2-month MMP-8 (AUC: 0.632 [0.512–0.713]) had good discriminative ability. Using a logistic regression model, low initial RANTES level (3000 pg/mL) were associated with persistent culture positivity. Low initial RANTES level and initial smear positivity had a positive predictive value of 60% (12/20) for persistent culture positivity, compared with 4% (3/75) among patients with high RANTES level and smear negativity upon diagnosis. In the 72 patients with either low RANTES/smear negativity or high RANTES/smear positivity upon diagnosis, the 2-month MMP-8 level had a positive and negative predictive value of 24 and 94%, respectively, for 2-month culture status. Aside from an initial sputum smear status, serum RANTES level at diagnosis and MMP-8 level at 2 months of treatment may be used to stratify risk for culture persistence.

Abstract

Paper and pulp mills use biological water treatment plants to reduce Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) release to the environment. In the end of the process, microorganisms are concentrated into a biological sludge. Among the microbes thriving in these plants are Legionella, causing the Legionnaires disease. Combustion of the biological sludge produced at a plant results in unwanted downstream effects on the production and probably increased formation of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the recovery boiler. Due to the disadvantages of combustion, the possibility to sterilize biological sludge has been investigated as a part of the continuously ongoing work at Metsa to improve occupational safety and reduce impact on the environment in a proactive way. A method to eradicate Legionellae in biological sludge would improve safety and ecological sustainability if the sludge instead is safely composted and used as e.g. soil fertilizer. Here we have assessed the time to death upon sludge heat treatment of a pathogenic L. pneumophila serogroup 1 strain, a L. longbeachae strain and the bacteria naturally occurring in biological sludge at the Metsa Board, Husum mill, Sweden. Time to death decreased with increasing temperatures up to 65 degrees C, where higher temperatures resulted in neglectable gain in time to death.

78. Spontaneous Retro-Orbital Subperiosteal Hemorrhage with Complete Resolution Following Percutaneous Coronary Intervention for Acute Myocardial Infarction

Abstract

Among the several treatment strategies available for acute myocardial infarction, primary percutaneous coronary intervention concomitant with antithrombotic agents is the primary treatment used to facilitate coronary reperfusion. However, bleeding can create major complications. Here we have presented a case of acute myocardial infarction treated with reperfusion therapy, after which developed a sudden onset of proptosis, with high intraocular pressure, blurred vision, and ecchymosis of the left eye. Spontaneous retro-orbital subperiosteal hemorrhage, a rare complication, was diagnosed based on those symptoms as noted above, as well as other orbital signs and imaging evaluation. Multiple antithrombotic agents, including antiplatelets, low molecular weight heparin, and glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor inhibitor were thought to be the main precipitating factors of this complication. Thereafter, conservative medical treatment was applied. In the following 2 weeks, all the patient’s orbital signs resolved gradually without visual impairment. In conclusion, our experience with a rare case of complications arising from reperfusion therapy used to treat myocardial infarction suggests that clinicians should remain vigilant for any hemorrhagic events during acute myocardial infarction treatment.
