Abstract: BackgroundDevelopment of anti-drug antibodies (ADAs) and neutralizing antibodies (NAbs) to monoclonal antibodies may adversely impact pharmacokinetics, efficacy, and/or safety.ObjectiveTo describe incidence, titer, and persistence of dupilumab ADAs and NAbs, and their effects on pharmacokinetics, efficacy, and safety in patients with atopic dermatitis (AD).MethodsThis analysis included seven phase 3 randomized, placebo-controlled (N=2,992) and two long-term open-label extension (N=2,287) trials of subcutaneous dupilumab in adults and pediatric patients with moderate-to-severe AD. ADA, NAb, and dupilumab concentration in serum were assessed using validated immunoassays. ADA impacts on efficacy (EASI) and safety were assessed.ResultsTreatment-emergent ADAs were observed in up to 8.6% (aged ≥18 years), 16.0% (12-17 years), 5.3% (6-11 years), and 2.0% (6 months to 5 years) dupilumab-treated patients. 52. The prognostic value of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is experiencing a rising incidence and mortality worldwide, emphasizing the need for reliable prognostic markers. Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) have emerged as a promising biomarker for predicting HNSCC prognosis, yet no systematic reviews have exclusively focused on hematoxylin and eosin (H&E)–stained formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples, which are routinely used in clinical practice. This systematic review and meta-analysis followed the PRISMA guidelines to examine the prognostic value of TILs in HNSCC using H&E-stained FFPE samples. Data were pooled from 43 studies, including 26 studies in a meta-analysis, analyzing 5037 HNSCC samples. We found that a high TIL count associated with a significantly improved overall survival (OS) (HR 0.47, 95 % CI 0.41–0.55, p < 0.0001), disease-free survival (DFS) (HR 0.55, 95 % CI 0.41–0.55, p < 0.0001), and disease-specific survival (DSS) (HR 0.58, 95 % CI 0.46–0.73, p < 0.0001). The heterogeneity was moderate for the pooled analysis (OS: I² = 40 %; DFS: I² = 39 %; DSS: I² = 51 %), but low for the subgroup analysis based on tumor site in oral, oropharyngeal, laryngeal, and nasopharyngeal cancer (OS and DFS: I² = 0–14 %). This review is the first to systematically evaluate TILs in HNSCC using H&E-stained samples, confirming their prognostic value. A high TIL count is associated with improved survival outcomes, suggesting their potential as prognostic biomarkers in clinical settings.

Abstract: Abstract Doping narrow‐gap semiconductors is a well‐established approach for designing efficient thermoelectric materials. Semiconducting half‐Heusler (HH) and full‐Heusler (FH) compounds have garnered significant interest within the thermoelectric field, yet the number of exceptional candidates remains relatively small. It is recently shown that the vacancy‐filling approach is a viable strategy for expanding the Heusler family. Here, a range of near‐semiconducting Heuslers, TiFexCuySb, creating a composition continuum that adheres to the Slater‐Pauling electron counting rule are theoretically designed and experimentally synthesized. The stochastic and incomplete occupation of vacancy sites within these materials imparts continuously changing electrical conductivities, ranging from a good semiconductor with low carrier concentration in the endpoint TiFe0.67Cu0.33Sb to a heavily doped p‐type semiconductor with a stoichiometry of TiFe1.00Cu0.20Sb. The optimal thermoelectric performance is experimentally observed in the intermediate compound TiFe0.80Cu0.28Sb, achieving a peak figure of merit of 0.87 at 923 K. These findings demonstrate that vacancy‐filling Heusler compounds offer substantial opportunities for developing advanced thermoelectric materials.

Abstract: Summary: Maladaptive plasticity is linked to the chronification of diseases such as pain, but the transition from acute to chronic pain is not well understood mechanistically. Neuroplasticity in the central nucleus of the amygdala (CeA) has emerged as a mechanism for sensory and emotional-affective aspects of injury-induced pain, although evidence comes from studies conducted almost exclusively in acute pain conditions and agnostic to cell type specificity. Here, we report time-dependent changes in genetically distinct and projection-specific CeA neurons in neuropathic pain. Hyperexcitability of CRF projection neurons and synaptic plasticity of parabrachial (PB) input at the acute stage shifted to hyperexcitability without synaptic plasticity in non-CRF neurons at the chronic phase. Accordingly, chemogenetic inhibition of the PB→CeA pathway mitigated pain-related behaviors in acute, but not chronic, neuropathic pain. Cell-type-specific temporal changes in neuroplasticity provide neurobiological evidence for the clinical observation that chronic pain is not simply the prolonged persistence of acute pain.

Abstract: Abstract: Importance: SARS-CoV-2 infection can result in ongoing, relapsing, or new symptoms or other health effects after the acute phase of infection; termed post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), or long COVID. The characteristics, prevalence, trajectory and mechanisms of PASC are ill-defined. The objectives of the Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) Multi-site Observational Study of PASC in Adults (RECOVER-Adult) are to: (1) characterize PASC prevalence; (2) characterize the symptoms, organ dysfunction, natural history, and distinct phenotypes of PASC; (3) identify demographic, social and clinical risk factors for PASC onset and recovery; and (4) define the biological mechanisms underlying PASC pathogenesis. Methods: RECOVER-Adult is a combined prospective/retrospective cohort currently planned to enroll 14,880 adults aged ≥18 years. Eligible participants either must meet WHO criteria for suspected, probable, or confirmed infection; or must have evidence of no prior infection. Recruitment occurs at 86 sites in 33 U.S. states, Washington, DC and Puerto Rico, via facility– and community-based outreach. Participants complete quarterly questionnaires about symptoms, social determinants, vaccination status, and interim SARS-CoV-2 infections. In addition, participants contribute biospecimens and undergo physical and laboratory examinations at approximately 0, 90 and 180 days from infection or negative test date, and yearly thereafter. Some participants undergo additional testing based on specific criteria or random sampling. Patient representatives provide input on all study processes. The primary study outcome is onset of PASC, measured by signs and symptoms. A paradigm for identifying PASC cases will be defined and updated using supervised and unsupervised learning approaches with cross– validation. Logistic regression and proportional hazards regression will be conducted to investigate associations between risk factors, onset, and resolution of PASC symptoms. Discussion: RECOVER-Adult is the first national, prospective, longitudinal cohort of PASC among US adults. Results of this study are intended to inform public health, spur clinical trials, and expand treatment options.

Abstract: The physics potential of detecting $^8$B solar neutrinos will be exploited at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), in a model independent manner by using three distinct channels of the charged-current (CC), neutral-current (NC) and elastic scattering (ES) interactions. Due to the largest-ever mass of $^{13}$C nuclei in the liquid-scintillator detectors and the {expected} low background level, $^8$B solar neutrinos would be observable in the CC and NC interactions on $^{13}$C for the first time. By virtue of optimized event selections and muon veto strategies, backgrounds from the accidental coincidence, muon-induced isotopes, and external backgrounds can be greatly suppressed. Excellent signal-to-background ratios can be achieved in the CC, NC and ES channels to guarantee the $^8$B solar neutrino observation. From the sensitivity studies performed in this work, we show that JUNO, with ten years of data, can reach the {1$\sigma$} precision levels of 5%, 8% and 20% for the $^8$B neutrino flux, $\sin^2\theta_{12}$, and $\Delta m^2_{21}$, respectively. It would be unique and helpful to probe the details of both solar physics and neutrino physics. Abstract: We study the high-dimensional uniform prudent self-avoiding walk, which assigns equal probability to all nearest-neighbor self-avoiding paths of a fixed length that respect the prudent condition, namely, the path cannot take any step in the direction of a previously visited site. We prove that the prudent self-avoiding walk converges to Brownian motion under diffusive scaling if the dimension is large enough. The same result is true for weakly prudent walk in dimension d>5. A challenging property of the high-dimensional prudent walk is the presence of an infinite-range self-avoidance constraint. Abstract: Background: Nordic walking (NW) has several potential benefits for individuals with cardiovascular (CV) disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity and/or overweight. NW improves cardiovascular health, including exercise capacity and blood pressure control. NW enhances glycemic control and insulin sensitivity in diabetes, and aids in weight management and body composition improvement. NW offers additional advantages, such as improvement in muscular strength, joint mobility, physical activity levels, and psychological well-being. Methods: This open-label study with 3 arms will aim to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and adherence to exercise prescription in obese and/or overweight diabetic patients with CV complications. The primary objective will be to assess the CV performance of participants after a 6-month and a 12-month follow-up period, following a 3-month NW intervention, compared with standard rehabilitation, and with cardiological counseling (control group) training lasting 3 months. Results: The results of the study will provide valuable insights into the comparative effectiveness of a NW intervention vs standard rehabilitation and control group training in improving CV performance in obese and/or overweight diabetic patients with CV complications. Additionally, safety and adherence data will help inform the feasibility and sustainability of the exercise prescription over an extended period. Conclusions: These findings may have implications for the development of tailored exercise programs for this specific patient population, with the aim of optimizing CV health outcomes. 61. A NLP-based semi-automatic identification system for delays in follow-up examinations: an Italian case study on clinical referrals

Abstract: Abstract Background This study aims to propose a semi-automatic method for monitoring the waiting times of follow-up examinations within the National Health System (NHS) in Italy, which is currently not possible to due the absence of the necessary structured information in the official databases. Methods A Natural Language Processing (NLP) based pipeline has been developed to extract the waiting time information from the text of referrals for follow-up examinations in the Lombardy Region. A manually annotated dataset of 10 000 referrals has been used to develop the pipeline and another manually annotated dataset of 10 000 referrals has been used to test its performance. Subsequently, the pipeline has been used to analyze all 12 million referrals prescribed in 2021 and performed by May 2022 in the Lombardy Region. Results The NLP-based pipeline exhibited high precision (0.999) and recall (0.973) in identifying waiting time information from referrals’ texts, with high accuracy in normalization (0.948-0.998). The overall reporting of timing indications in referrals’ texts for follow-up examinations was low (2%), showing notable variations across medical disciplines and types of prescribing physicians. Among the referrals reporting waiting times, 16% experienced delays (average delay = 19 days, standard deviation = 34 days), with significant differences observed across medical disciplines and geographical areas. Conclusions The use of NLP proved to be a valuable tool for assessing waiting times in follow-up examinations, which are particularly critical for the NHS due to the significant impact of chronic diseases, where follow-up exams are pivotal. Health authorities can exploit this tool to monitor the quality of NHS services and optimize resource allocation.

Abstract: Abstract While phonon anharmonicity affects lattice thermal conductivity intrinsically and is difficult to be modified, controllable lattice defects routinely function only by scattering phonons extrinsically. Here, through a comprehensive study of crystal structure and lattice dynamics of Zintl-type Sr(Cu,Ag,Zn)Sb thermoelectric compounds using neutron scattering techniques and theoretical simulations, we show that the role of vacancies in suppressing lattice thermal conductivity could extend beyond defect scattering. The vacancies in Sr2ZnSb2 significantly enhance lattice anharmonicity, causing a giant softening and broadening of the entire phonon spectrum and, together with defect scattering, leading to a ~ 86% decrease in the maximum lattice thermal conductivity compared to SrCuSb. We show that this huge lattice change arises from charge density reconstruction, which undermines both interlayer and intralayer atomic bonding strength in the hierarchical structure. These microscopic insights demonstrate a promise of artificially tailoring phonon anharmonicity through lattice defect engineering to manipulate lattice thermal conductivity in the design of energy conversion materials.

Abstract: Abstract In this study, we investigate the role of cold pools in modulating convective organization throughout the Madden‐Julian Oscillation (MJO) life cycle using a modeling approach that combines Eulerian and Lagrangian techniques. First, we conduct a simulation using the soundings and forcing of the DYNAMO/AMIE campaign. The simulation shows a lag of several days between the precipitation rate peak time associated with MJO and the highest convective organization time. Second, to analyze the role of cold pools, we consider a series of 2‐day simulations conducted at different stages of the MJO. The simulation results suggest that cold pools are larger and last longer during the mature stages of the MJO, possibly because of decreased environmental surface latent heat fluxes and stronger downdrafts. These lead to the formation of moist rings at the leading edges of cold pools, facilitating the formation of more convective cores and increasing the degree of convective organization.

Abstract: Summary: Background: Little is known about post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC) after acquiring SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy. We aimed to evaluate the association between acquiring SARS-CoV-2 during pregnancy compared with acquiring SARS-CoV-2 outside of pregnancy and the development of PASC. Methods: This retrospective cohort study from the Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) Initiative Patient-Centred Clinical Research Network (PCORnet) used electronic health record (EHR) data from 19 U.S. health systems. Females aged 18–49 years with lab-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection from March 2020 through June 2022 were included. Validated algorithms were used to identify pregnancies with a delivery at >20 weeks’ gestation. The primary outcome was PASC, as previously defined by computable phenotype in the adult non-pregnant PCORnet EHR dataset, identified 30–180 days post-SARS-CoV-2 infection. Secondary outcomes were the 24 component diagnoses contributing to the PASC phenotype definition. Univariable comparisons were made for baseline characteristics between individuals with SARS-CoV-2 infection acquired during pregnancy compared with outside of pregnancy. Using inverse probability of treatment weighting to adjust for baseline differences, the association between SARS-CoV-2 infection acquired during pregnancy and the selected outcomes was modelled. The incident risk is reported as the adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) with 95% confidence intervals. Findings: In total, 83,915 females with SARS-CoV-2 infection acquired outside of pregnancy and 5397 females with SARS-CoV-2 infection acquired during pregnancy were included in analysis. Non-pregnant females with SARS-CoV-2 infection were more likely to be older and have comorbid health conditions. SARS-CoV-2 infection acquired in pregnancy as compared with acquired outside of pregnancy was associated with a lower incidence of PASC (25.5% vs 33.9%; aHR 0.85, 95% CI 0.80–0.91). SARS-CoV-2 infection acquired in pregnant females was associated with increased risk for some PASC component diagnoses including abnormal heartbeat (aHR 1.67, 95% CI 1.43–1.94), abdominal pain (aHR 1.34, 95% CI 1.16–1.55), and thromboembolism (aHR 1.88, 95% CI 1.17–3.04), but decreased risk for other diagnoses including malaise (aHR 0.35, 95% CI 0.27–0.47), pharyngitis (aHR 0.36, 95% CI 0.26–0.48) and cognitive problems (aHR 0.39, 95% CI 0.27–0.56). Interpretation: SARS-CoV-2 infection acquired during pregnancy was associated with lower risk of development of PASC at 30–180 days after incident SARS-CoV-2 infection in this nationally representative sample. These findings may be used to counsel pregnant and pregnant capable individuals, and direct future prospective study. Abstract: We present the detection potential for the diffuse supernova neutrino background (DSNB) at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), using the inverse-beta-decay (IBD) detection channel on free protons. We employ the latest information on the DSNB flux predictions, and investigate in detail the background and its reduction for the DSNB search at JUNO. The atmospheric neutrino induced neutral current (NC) background turns out to be the most critical background, whose uncertainty is carefully evaluated from both the spread of model predictions and an envisaged \textit{in situ} measurement. We also make a careful study on the background suppression with the pulse shape discrimination (PSD) and triple coincidence (TC) cuts. With latest DSNB signal predictions, more realistic background evaluation and PSD efficiency optimization, and additional TC cut, JUNO can reach the significance of 3$\sigma$ for 3 years of data taking, and achieve better than 5$\sigma$ after 10 years for a reference DSNB model. In the pessimistic scenario of non-observation, JUNO would strongly improve the limits and exclude a significant region of the model parameter space., Comment: 29 pages, 11 figures, final published version in JCAP

Abstract: Main goal of the JUNO experiment is to determine the neutrino mass ordering using a 20kt liquid-scintillator detector. Its key feature is an excellent energy resolution of at least 3 % at 1 MeV, for which its instruments need to meet a certain quality and thus have to be fully characterized. More than 20,000 20-inch PMTs have been received and assessed by JUNO after a detailed testing program which began in 2017 and elapsed for about four years. Based on this mass characterization and a set of specific requirements, a good quality of all accepted PMTs could be ascertained. This paper presents the performed testing procedure with the designed testing systems as well as the statistical characteristics of all 20-inch PMTs intended to be used in the JUNO experiment, covering more than fifteen performance parameters including the photocathode uniformity. This constitutes the largest sample of 20-inch PMTs ever produced and studied in detail to date, i.e. 15,000 of the newly developed 20-inch MCP-PMTs from Northern Night Vision Technology Co. (NNVT) and 5,000 of dynode PMTs from Hamamatsu Photonics K. K.(HPK).

Abstract: JUNO is a multi-purpose neutrino observatory under construction in the south of China. This publication presents new sensitivity estimates for the measurement of the $\Delta m^2_{31}$, $\Delta m^2_{21}$, $\sin^2 \theta_{12}$, and $\sin^2 \theta_{13}$ oscillation parameters using reactor antineutrinos, which is one of the primary physics goals of the experiment. The sensitivities are obtained using the best knowledge available to date on the location and overburden of the experimental site, the nuclear reactors in the surrounding area and beyond, the detector response uncertainties, and the reactor antineutrino spectral shape constraints expected from the TAO satellite detector. Abstract: The AI for Experimental Controls project is developing an AI system to control and calibrate detector systems located at Jefferson Laboratory. Currently, calibrations are performed offline and require significant time and attention from experts. This work would reduce the amount of data and the amount of time spent calibrating in an offline setting. The first use case involves the Central Drift Chamber (CDC) located inside the GlueX spectrometer in Hall D. We use a combination of environmental and experimental data, such as atmospheric pressure, gas temperature, and the flux of incident particles as inputs to a Sequential Neural Network (NN) to recommend a high voltage setting and the corresponding calibration constants in order to maintain consistent gain and optimal resolution throughout the experiment. Utilizing AI in this manner represents an initial shift from offline calibration towards near real time calibrations performed at Jefferson Laboratory.

Abstract: The pressure to lead schools effectively while fulfilling instructional leadership and school management tasks could impact school administrators' perceptions of their leadership capabilities. The purpose of this quantitative, cross-sectional study was to identify the relationship between the varied tasks of school administrators as related to their leadership self-efficacy. Data were collected from 73 school administrators to ascertain leadership self-efficacy of principals and assistant principals based upon the completion of instructional leadership tasks and school management tasks. The major findings of the study indicated a positive, linear relationship between leadership self-efficacy and the instructional leadership tasks and school management tasks of school administrators. The practical application of this study provides insight into the types of tasks that impact the leadership self-efficacy of principals and assistant principals and could drive the professional learning of school administrators and the delegation of their tasks.

Abstract: There is no doubt that 2020 has put a number of professions through their paces--college admission and recruitment included. The longer it takes to secure widespread COVID relief, the worse the economic situation becomes. These challenges are broad, sweeping, and beyond the scope of one institution's individual strategies. One framework has shown up time and time again to offer clarity. Intersectionality: An intellectual framework championed by Black, queer, and Latinx feminist scholars in the 1970s, and popularized by Kimberlé Crenshaw in a 1991 law article, claims that identities like race, gender, and class can not be examined in isolation. They must be considered as reinforcing stressors that compound the level of oppressing forces an individual might navigate. This article presents how to apply intersectionality to the college admission process.

Abstract: The dataset presented here consists of 273 conductivity–temperature–depth (CTD) stations, as well as 2034 sampled data points in the water column, where dissolved inorganic nutrients have been measured, that were collected during 12 summer oceanographic cruises (BANSIC series) in the Sicily Channel (central Mediterranean Sea) between 2010 and 2021. The quality of the CTD dataset is ensured by regular sensor calibrations and an accurate control process adopted during the acquisition, processing, and post-processing phases. The quality of the biogeochemical dataset is ensured by the adoption of best-practice analytical and sampling methods. This data collection fills a gap of information in the Sicily Channel, i.e., a key area where complex water mass exchange processes involve the transfer of physical and biogeochemical properties between the eastern and western Mediterranean. The available dataset will be useful to evaluate the long-term variability on a wide spatial scale, supporting studies on the evolution of the Mediterranean circulation and its peculiar biogeochemistry, as well as on the physical and biogeochemical modeling of this area. Abstract: Abstract 4R is a tobacco cembranoid that binds to and modulates cholinergic receptors and exhibits neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory activity. Given the established function of the cholinergic system in pain and inflammation, we propose that 4R is also analgesic. Here, we tested the hypothesis that systemic 4R treatment decreases pain-related behaviors and peripheral inflammation via modulation of the alpha 7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (α7 nAChRs) in a mouse model of inflammatory pain. We elicited inflammation by injecting Complete Freund’s Adjuvant (CFA) into the hind paw of male and female mice. We then assessed inflammation-induced hypersensitivity to cold, heat, and tactile stimulation using the Acetone, Hargreaves, and von Frey tests, respectively, before and at different time points (2.5 h – 8d) after a single systemic 4R (or vehicle) administration. We evaluated the contribution of α7 nAChRs 4R-mediated analgesia by pre-treating mice with a selective antagonist of α7 nAChRs followed by 4R (or vehicle) administration prior to behavioral tests. We assessed CFA-induced paw edema and inflammation by measuring paw thickness and quantifying immune cell infiltration in the injected hind paw using hematoxylin and eosin staining. Lastly, we performed immunohistochemical and flow cytometric analyses of paw skin in α7 nAChR-cre::Ai9 mice to measure the expression of α7 nAChRs on immune subsets. Our experiments show that systemic administration of 4R decreases inflammation-induced peripheral hypersensitivity in male and female mice and inflammation-induced paw edema in male but not female mice. Notably, 4R-mediated analgesia and anti-inflammatory effects lasted up to 8d after a single systemic administration on day 1. Pretreatment with an α7 nAChR-selective antagonist prevented 4R-mediated analgesia and anti-inflammatory effects, demonstrating that 4R effects are via modulation of α7 nAChRs. We further show that a subset of immune cells in the hind paw expresses α7 nAChRs. However, the number of α7 nAChR-expressing immune cells is unaltered by CFA or 4R treatment, suggesting that 4R effects are independent of α7 nAChR-expressing immune cells. Together, our findings identify a novel function of the 4R tobacco cembranoid as an analgesic agent in both male and female mice that reduces peripheral inflammation in a sex-dependent manner, further supporting the pharmacological targeting of the cholinergic system for pain treatment.

Abstract: The recent expansion of the habitat of several wildlife species, comprising anthropized areas, is a relevant risk factor for many zoonotic diseases and should be considered in national and regional sanitary monitoring systems. We evaluated adult intestinal Taenia spp. parasites isolated from wild carnivores and cystic larval forms isolated from wild mammals analysed at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Lombardia ed Emilia-Romagna (IZSLER) as part of the regional wildlife sanitary surveillance plan. Then, we assessed parasite species through molecular analysis (multiplex PCR followed by ribosomal 12S subunit gene sequencing) in order to update the epidemiological situation on Taeniids infection in the Emilia-Romagna wildlife, reporting the prevalence of each isolated species. The most commonly isolated species was Taenia serialis, which we detected in both wolves and foxes as definitive hosts and in roe deer as intermediate host. More attention on the distribution of Taeniids in wildlife should be paid, considering their potential zoonotic role: several Taenia spp. (Taenia solium, Taenia multiceps, Taenia serialis, Taenia brauni, Taenia glomerulatus) are known for causing coenurosis in humans, with possible severe or fatal outcomes.

Abstract: We study damping signatures at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), a medium-baseline reactor neutrino oscillation experiment. These damping signatures are motivated by various new physics models, including quantum decoherence, $\nu_3$ decay, neutrino absorption, and wave packet decoherence. The phenomenological effects of these models can be characterized by exponential damping factors at the probability level. We assess how well JUNO can constrain these damping parameters and how to disentangle these different damping signatures at JUNO. Compared to current experimental limits, JUNO can significantly improve the limits on $\tau_3/m_3$ in the $\nu_3$ decay model, the width of the neutrino wave packet $\sigma_x$, and the intrinsic relative dispersion of neutrino momentum $\sigma_{\rm rel}$., Comment: 17 pages, 2 figures, 4 tables. Abstract: Torque measurement is a key task in several mechanical and structural engineering applications. Most commercial torquemeters require the shaft to be interrupted to place the sensors between the two portions of the shaft where a torque has to be measured. Contactless torquemeters based on the inverse magnetostrictive effect represent an effective alternative to conventional ones. Most known ferromagnetic materials have an inverse magnetostrictive behavior: applied stresses induce variations in their magnetic properties. This paper investigates the possibility of measuring torsional loads applied to a shaft made of ferromagnetic steel S235 through an inverse magnetostrictive torquemeter. It consists of an excitation coil that produces a time-varying electromagnetic field inside the shaft and an array of sensing coils suitably arranged around it, in which voltages are induced. First, the system is analyzed both in unloaded and loaded conditions by a Finite Element Method, investigating the influence of relative positions between the sensor and the shaft. Then, the numerical results are compared with the experimental measurements, confirming a linear characteristic of the sensor (sensitivity about 0.013 mV/Nm for the adopted experimental setup) and revealing the consistency of the model used. Since the system exploits the physical behavior of a large class of structural steel and does not require the introduction of special materials, this torquemeter may represent a reliable, economical, and easy-to-install device.

Abstract: BackgroundThe purpose of this study was to estimate prevalence of asymptomatic severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection among patients admitted to obstetric inpatient units throughout the United States as detected by universal screening. We sought to describe the relationship between obstetric inpatient asymptomatic infection rates and publicly available surrounding community infection rates.MethodsA cross-sectional study in which medical centers reported rates of positive SARS-CoV-2 testing in asymptomatic pregnant and immediate postpartum patients over a 1-3-month time span in 2020. Publicly reported SARS-CoV-2 case rates from the relevant county and state for each center were collected from the COVID Act Now dashboard and the COVID Tracking Project for correlation analysis.ResultsData were collected from 9 health centers, encompassing 18 hospitals. Participating health centers were located in Alabama, California, Illinois, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, and Washington State. Each hospital had an active policy for universal SARS-CoV-2 testing on obstetric inpatient units. A total of 10 147 SARS-CoV-2 tests were administered, of which 124 were positive (1.2%). Positivity rates varied by site, ranging from 0-3.2%. While SARS-CoV-2 infection rates were lower in asymptomatic obstetric inpatient groups than the surrounding communities, there was a positive correlation between positivity rates in obstetric inpatient units and their surrounding county (P=.003, r=.782) and state (P=.007, r=.708).ConclusionsGiven the correlation between community and obstetric inpatient rates, the necessity of SARS-CoV-2-related healthcare resource utilization in obstetric inpatient units may be best informed by surrounding community infection rates.

Abstract: Our objective was to evaluate whether cannabis use was associated with nausea and vomiting in early pregnancy. Participants from nuMoM2b (Nulliparous Pregnancy Outcomes Study: Monitoring Mothers-to-Be) enrolled from October 2010 through September 2013 with a PUQE (Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis) questionnaire and an available stored urine sample from the first study visit (median gestational age 12 weeks) were included. Cannabis exposure was ascertained by urine immunoassay for 11-nor-9-carboxy-delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC-COOH); positive results were confirmed with liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. The primary outcome was moderate-to-severe nausea by the PUQE score. Overall, 9,250 participants were included, and 5.8% (95% CI 5.4-6.3%) had detectable urine THC-COOH. In adjusted analyses, higher THC-COOH levels were associated with greater odds of moderate-to-severe nausea (20.7% in the group with THC-COOH detected vs 15.5% in the group with THC-COOH not detected, adjusted odds ratio 1.6, 95% CI 1.1-2.2 for a 500 ng/mg Cr THC-COOH increment).

Abstract: Gender-based violence (GBV) is global issue, requiring specialized knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The most effective responses are interdisciplinary, involving social work, healthcare, and the justice system. While GBV was exacerbated during the pandemic, many students faced a reduced availability of practice opportunities to learn how to respond to GBV. The authors describe a teaching and learning project which expanded access to experiential, interdisciplinary learning across three faculties (social work, nursing, law) by using virtual gaming simulation-based learning (VGSBL). Processes of development and implementation are discussed, along with recommendations for further integration of VGSBL in addressing grand challenges of social work education such as interdisciplinary collaboration in responding to GBV.

Abstract: The neutron powder diffraction, specific heat, thermal conductivity, and Raman scattering measurements were presented to study the interplays of lattice, phonons and electrons of the Sr-doping Ba1-xSrxSnO3 (x was less than or equal to 0.1). Although Ba1-xSrxSnO3 kept the cubic lattice, the Raman spectra suggested a dynamic distortion at low temperature. The density functional theory was applied to analyze the electronic structures and phonon dispersions of Ba1-xSrxSnO3(x = 0, 0.0125), and the behaviors of electron bands around Fermi levels were discussed. Abstract: The exploration of the universe has recently entered a new era thanks to the multi-messenger paradigm, characterized by a continuous increase in the quantity and quality of experimental data that is obtained by the detection of the various cosmic messengers (photons, neutrinos, cosmic rays and gravitational waves) from numerous origins. They give us information about their sources in the universe and the properties of the intergalactic medium. Moreover, multi-messenger astronomy opens up the possibility to search for phenomenological signatures of quantum gravity. On the one hand, the most energetic events allow us to test our physical theories at energy regimes which are not directly accessible in accelerators; on the other hand, tiny effects in the propagation of very high energy particles could be amplified by cosmological distances. After decades of merely theoretical investigations, the possibility of obtaining phenomenological indications of Planck-scale effects is a revolutionary step in the quest for a quantum theory of gravity, but it requires cooperation between different communities of physicists (both theoretical and experimental). Abstract: Ultra high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) may interact with photon backgrounds and thus the universe is opaque to their propagation. Many Lorentz Invariance Violation (LIV) theories predict a dilation of the expected horizon from which UHECRs can arrive to Earth, in some case even making the interaction probability negligible. In this work, we investigate this effect in the context of the LIV theory that goes by the name of Homogeneously Modified Special Relativity (HMSR). In this work, making use of a specifically modified version of the Sim- Prop simulation program in order to account for the modifications introduced by the theory to the propagation of particles, the radius of the proton opacity horizon (GZK sphere), and the attenuation length for the photopion production process are simulated and the modifications of these quantities introduced by the theory are studied.

85. Neutrino Oscillations and Lorentz Invariance Violation

Abstract: This work explores the possibility of resorting to neutrino phenomenology to detect evidence of new physics, caused by the residual signals of the supposed quantum structure of spacetime. In particular, this work investigates the effects on neutrino oscillations and mass hierarchy detection, predicted by models that violate Lorentz invariance, preserving the spacetime isotropy and homogeneity. Neutrino physics is the ideal environment where conducting the search for new "exotic" physics, since the oscillation phenomenon is not included in the original formulation of the minimal Standard Model (SM) of particles. The confirmed observation of the neutrino oscillation phenomenon is, therefore, the first example of physics beyond the SM and can indicate the necessity to resort to new theoretical models. In this work, the hypothesis that the supposed Lorentz Invariance Violation (LIV) perturbations can influence the oscillation pattern is investigated. LIV theories are indeed constructed assuming modified kinematics, caused by the interaction of massive particles with the spacetime background. This means that the dispersion relations are modified, so it appears natural to search for effects caused by LIV in physical phenomena governed by masses, as in the case of neutrino oscillations. In addition, the neutrino oscillation phenomenon is interesting since there are three different mass eigenstates and in a LIV scenario, which preserves isotropy, at least two different species of particle must interact.

86. Phenomenological Effects of CPT and Lorentz Invariance Violation in Particle and Astroparticle Physics

Abstract: It is well known that a fundamental theorem of Quantum Field Theory (QFT) set in at spacetime ensures the CPT invariance of the theory. This symmetry is strictly connected to the Lorentz covariance, and consequently to the fundamental structure of spacetime. Therefore it may be interesting to investigate the possibility of departure from this fundamental symmetry, since it can furnish a window to observe possible effects of a more fundamental quantum gravity theory in a "lower energy limit". Moreover, in the past, the inquiry of symmetry violations provided a starting point for new physics discoveries. A useful physical framework for this kind of search is provided by astroparticle physics, thanks to the high energy involved and to the long path travelled by particles accelerated by an astrophysical object and then revealed on Earth. Astrophysical messengers are therefore very important probes for investigating this sector, involving high energy photons, charged particles, and neutrinos of cosmic origin. In addition, one can also study artificial neutrino beams, investigated at accelerator experiments. Here we discuss the state of art for all these topics and some interesting new proposals, both from a theoretical and phenomenological point of view.

87. Quantum gravity phenomenology induced in the propagation of UHECR, a kinematical solution in Finsler and generalized Finsler spacetime

Abstract: It is well-known that the Universe is opaque to the propagation of Ultra-High-Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECRs) since these particles dissipate energy during their propagation interacting with the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) mainly in the so-called GZK cut-off phenomenon. Some experimental evidence seems to hint at the possibility of a dilation of the GZK predicted opacity sphere. It is well-known that kinematical perturbations caused by supposed quantum gravity (QG) effects can modify the foreseen GZK opacity horizon. The introduction of Lorentz Invariance Violation (LIV) can indeed reduce, in some cases making negligible, the CMB-UHECRs interaction probability. In this work we explore the effects induced by modified kinematics in the UHECRs phenomenology from the QG perspective. We explore the possibility of a geometrical description of the massive fermions interaction with the supposed quantum structure of spacetime in order to introduce a Lorentz covariance modifification. The kinematics is amended modifying the Dispersion Relations (DRs) of free particles in the context of a covariance-preserving framework. This spacetime description requires a more general geometry than the usual Riemannian one, indicating for instance the Finsler construction and the related generalized Finsler spacetime as ideal candidates. Finally we investigate the correlation between the magnitude of Lorentz covariance modification and the attenuation length of the photopion production process related to the GZK cut-off, demonstrating that the predicted opacity horizon can be dilated even in the context of a theory that does not require any privileged reference frame.

Abstract: ObjectiveInterventions for emerging adults (EAs) with type 1 diabetes (T1D) focus on goal setting, but little is known about how goal achievement relates to intervention outcomes. We examined how goals change, how goal achievement relates to diabetes outcomes, and identified barriers and facilitators to goal achievement.MethodEAs with T1D (N=29, M age=21.6 years, 57% female) were coached monthly to set a behavioral goal across a 3-month feasibility trial. Coaching notes were qualitatively coded regarding type, complexity, and changes in goals. Goal achievement was measured via daily responses to texts. HbA1c, self-efficacy, diabetes distress, and self-care were assessed pre- and post-intervention.ResultsEAs frequently set food goals (79%) in combination with other goals. EAs overwhelmingly changed their goals (90%), with most increasing goal complexity. Goal achievement was high (79% of days) and not affected by goal change or goal complexity. Goal achievement was associated with increases in self-efficacy and self-care across time. Qualitative themes revealed that aspects of self-regulation and social-regulation were important for goal achievement.ConclusionMeeting daily diabetes goals may enhance self-efficacy and self-care for diabetes.Practice ImplicationsAssisting EAs to reduce self-regulation challenges and enhance social support for goals may lead to better diabetes outcomes.

Abstract: During the last decades, scientific community has been investigating both biological and hydrographic processes that affect fisheries. Such an interdisciplinary and synergic approach is nowadays giving a fundamental contribution, in particular, in connecting the dots between hydrographic phenomena and biomass variability and distribution of small pelagic fish. Here we estimate impacts of hydrographic fluctuations on small pelagic fishery, focusing on the inter-annual variability that characterizes connectivity between spawning and recruiting areas for the European anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus, Linnaues 1758), in the Northern side of the Sicily Channel (Mediterranean Sea). Results show that coastal transport dynamics of a specific year largely affect the biomass recorded the following year. Our work, moreover, quantifies the specific monetary impacts on landings of European anchovy fishery due to hydrodynamics variability, connecting biomass fluctuations with fishery economics in a highly dynamic and exploited marine environment as the Sicily Channel. In particular, we build a model that attributes a monetary value to the hydrographic phenomena (i.e., cross-shore vs. alongshore eggs and larvae transport), registered in the FAO Geographical Sub-Area (GSA) 16 (Southern Sicily). This allows us to provide a monetary estimation of catches, derived from different transport dynamics. Our results highlight the paramount importance that hydrographic phenomena can have over the socio-economic performance of a fishery.

Abstract: We urgently need answers to basic epidemiological questions regarding SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnant and postpartum women and its effect on their newborns. While many national registries, health facilities, and research groups are collecting relevant data, we need a collaborative and methodologically rigorous approach to better combine these data and address knowledge gaps, especially those related to rare outcomes. We propose that using a sequential, prospective meta-analysis (PMA) is the best approach to generate data for policy- and practice-oriented guidelines. As the pandemic evolves, additional studies identified retrospectively by the steering committee or through living systematic reviews will be invited to participate in this PMA. Investigators can contribute to the PMA by either submitting individual patient data or running standardized code to generate aggregate data estimates. For the primary analysis, we will pool data using two-stage meta-analysis methods. The meta-analyses will be updated as additional data accrue in each contributing study and as additional studies meet study-specific time or data accrual thresholds for sharing. At the time of publication, investigators of 25 studies, including more than 76,000 pregnancies, in 41 countries had agreed to share data for this analysis. Among the included studies, 12 have a contemporaneous comparison group of pregnancies without COVID-19, and four studies include a comparison group of non-pregnant women of reproductive age with COVID-19. Protocols and updates will be maintained publicly. Results will be shared with key stakeholders, including the World Health Organization (WHO) Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (MNCAH) Research Working Group. Data contributors will share results with local stakeholders. Scientific publications will be published in open-access journals on an ongoing basis.

98. Scaling limits of tree-valued branching random walks

Abstract: We consider a branching random walk (BRW) taking its values in the $\mathtt{b}$-ary rooted tree $\mathbb W_{ \mathtt{b}}$ (i.e. the set of finite words written in the alphabet $\{ 1, \ldots, \mathtt{b} \}$, with $\mathtt{b}\! \geq \! 2$). The BRW is indexed by a critical Galton--Watson tree conditioned to have $n$ vertices; its offspring distribution is aperiodic and is in the domain of attraction of a $\gamma$-stable law, $\gamma \in (1, 2]$. The jumps of the BRW are those of a nearest-neighbour null-recurrent random walk on $\mathbb W_{ \mathtt{b}}$ (reflection at the root of $\mathbb W_{ \mathtt{b}}$ and otherwise: probability $1/2$ to move closer to the root of $\mathbb W_{ \mathtt{b}}$ and probability $1/(2\mathtt{b})$ to move away from it to one of the $\mathtt{b}$ sites above). We denote by $\mathcal R_{\mathtt{b}} (n)$ the range of the BRW in $\mathbb W_{ \mathtt{b}}$ which is the set of all sites in $\mathbb W_{\mathtt{b}}$ visited by the BRW. Abstract: The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is a 20 kton LS detector at 700-m underground. An excellent energy resolution and a large fiducial volume offer exciting opportunities for addressing many important topics in neutrino and astro-particle physics. With 6 years of data, the neutrino mass ordering can be determined at 3-4 sigma and three oscillation parameters can be measured to a precision of 0.6% or better by detecting reactor antineutrinos. With 10 years of data, DSNB could be observed at 3-sigma; a lower limit of the proton lifetime of 8.34e33 years (90% C.L.) can be set by searching for p->nu_bar K^+; detection of solar neutrinos would shed new light on the solar metallicity problem and examine the vacuum-matter transition region. A core-collapse supernova at 10 kpc would lead to ~5000 IBD and ~2000 (300) all-flavor neutrino-proton (electron) scattering events. Geo-neutrinos can be detected with a rate of ~400 events/year. We also summarize the final design of the JUNO detector and the key R&D achievements. All 20-inch PMTs have been tested. The average photon detection efficiency is 28.9% for the 15,000 MCP PMTs and 28.1% for the 5,000 dynode PMTs, higher than the JUNO requirement of 27%. Together with the >20 m attenuation length of LS, we expect a yield of 1345 p.e. per MeV and an effective energy resolution of 3.02%/\sqrt{E (MeV)}$ in simulations. The underwater electronics is designed to have a loss rate <0.5% in 6 years. With degassing membranes and a micro-bubble system, the radon concentration in the 35-kton water pool could be lowered to <10 mBq/m^3. Acrylic panels of radiopurity <0.5 ppt U/Th are produced. The 20-kton LS will be purified onsite. Singles in the fiducial volume can be controlled to ~10 Hz. 100. Non-directed polymers in heavy-tail random environment in dimension $d\geq 2$

Abstract: In this article we study a \emph{non-directed} polymer model in dimension $d\ge 2$: we consider a simple symmetric random walk on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ which interacts with a random environment, represented by i.i.d. random variables $(\omega_x)_{x\in \mathbb{Z}^d}$. The model consists in modifying the law of the random walk up to time (or length) $N$ by the exponential of $\sum_{x\in \mathcal{R}_N}\beta (\omega_x-h)$ where $\mathcal{R}_N$ is the range of the walk, \textit{i.e.} the set of visited sites up to time $N$, and $\beta\geq 0,\, h\in \mathbb{R}$ are two parameters. We study the behavior of the model in a weak-coupling regime, that is taking $\beta:=\beta_N$ vanishing as the length $N$ goes to infinity, and in the case where the random variables $\omega$ have a heavy tail with exponent $\alpha\in (0,d)$. We are able to obtain precisely the behavior of polymer trajectories under all possible weak-coupling regimes $\beta_N = \hat \beta N^{-\gamma}$ with $\gamma \geq 0$: we find the correct transversal fluctuation exponent $\xi$ for the polymer (it depends on $\alpha$ and $\gamma$) and we give the limiting distribution of the rescaled log-partition function.
