In the following study, a series of new lupeol-3-carbamate derivatives were synthesized, and the structures of all the newly derived compounds were characterized. The new compounds were screened to determine their anti-proliferative activity against human lung cancer cell line A549, human liver cancer cell line HepG2, and human breast cancer cell line MCF-7. Most of the compounds were found to show better anti-proliferative activity in vitro than lupeol. Among them, obvious anti-proliferation activity (IC50 = 5.39~9.43 μM) was exhibited by compound 3i against all three tumor cell lines. In addition, a salt reaction was performed on compound 3k (IC50 = 13.98 μM) and it was observed that the anti-proliferative activity and water solubility of compound 3k·CH3I (IC50 = 3.13 μM), were significantly enhanced subsequent to the salt formation process. The preliminary mechanistic studies demonstrated that apoptosis in HepG2 cells was induced by compound 3k·CH3I through the inhibition of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway. In conclusion, a series of new lupeol-3-carbamate derivatives were synthesized via the structural modification of the C-3 site of lupeol, thus laying a theoretical foundation for the design of this new anticancer drug. This paper proposes a high-sensitivity microstrip differential sensor for measuring the complex permittivity of liquids. The prototype of the differential sensor was formed by cascading two LC resonators on a microstrip transmission line based on stepped impedance. A strong electric field was found to be distributed in the circular patch of the LC resonator; therefore, a cylindrical micropore was set in the center of the circular LC resonator to measure the dielectric sample, which maximized the disturbance of the dielectric sample on the sensor. By optimizing the size of the circular LC resonator, a high-sensitivity sensor circuit was designed and manufactured. The complex permittivity of the test sample was calculated by measuring the transmission coefficient of different molar concentrations of ethanol–water solutions. The experimental results show that the designed differential sensor can accurately measure the complex permittivity of liquid materials with an average sensitivity of 0.76%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study examined the use of prosody in semantic and syntactic disambiguation by means of comparison between Japanese and Chinese speakers' production of English sentences. In Chinese and Japanese, lexical prosody is more prominent than sentence prosody, and the sentential meaning contrast is usually realized through particles or a change in word order instead of prosodic cues. In order to find out whether Chinese and Japanese speakers of English can produce prosodic differences when they are aware of the syntactic and semantic ambiguity of the sentence, a read-aloud experiment was conducted. The results indicated that both Japanese and Chinese speakers were able to represent the difference of meaning by means of pause and the rising or falling of pitch at the final position of a sentence, which was reflected by their performance on boundary and tag questions. However, it was difficult for them to represent the difference of focus and phrase structure type merely by means of prosody. These findings suggest that some aspects of English prosody, such as a compound accent that is opposite to that of Japanese and Chinese, a phrasal accent that is peculiar to some degree, and an emphatic focus, require more consideration than other aspects. Furthermore, regardless of whether they are Japanese or Chinese learners of English, learners should expend more time and concentration on practicing the specific patterns of prosody that relate to semantic or syntactic disambiguation in English.

Abstract Background Macro-reentrant atrial tachycardias (MATs) are a common complication after cardiac valve surgery. The MAT types and the effectiveness of MAT ablation might differ after different valve surgery. Data comparing the electrophysiological characteristics and the ablation results of MAT post-tricuspid or mitral valve surgery are limited. Methods Forty-eight patients (29 males, age 56.1 ± 13.3 years) with MAT after valve surgery were assigned to tricuspid valve (TV) group (n = 18) and mitral valve (MV) group (n = 30). MATs were mapped and ablated guided by a three-dimensional navigation system. The one-year clinical effectiveness was compared in two groups. Results Nineteen MATs were documented in TV group, including 16 cavo-tricuspid isthmus (CTI)-dependent AFL and 3 other MATs at right atrial (RA) free wall, RA septum and left atrial (LA) roof. Thirty-nine MATs were identified in MV group, including15 CTI-dependent AFL, 8 RA free wall scar-related, 2 RA septum scar-related, 8 peri-mitral flutter, 3 LA roof-dependent, 2 LA anterior scar-related, and 1 right pulmonary vein-related MAT. Compared with TV group, MV group had significantly lower prevalence of CTI-dependent AFL (38.5% vs. 84.2%), higher prevalence of left atrial MAT (35.9 vs.5.3%) and higher proportion of patients with left atrial MAT (40 vs. 5.6%), P = 0.02, 0.01 and 0.01, respectively. The acute success rate of MAT ablation (100 vs. 93.3%) and the one-year freedom from atrial tachy-arrhythmias (72.2 vs. 76.5%) was comparable in TV and MV group. No predictor for recurrence was identified. Conclusion Although the types of MATs differed significantly in patients with prior TV or MV surgery, the acute and mid-term effectiveness of MAT ablation was comparable in two groups. AimsEthanol infusion into the VOM (EIVOM) adjunctive to radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) was a novel approach facilitating mitral isthmus (MIth) block for persistent atrial fibrillation (PeAF); However, there were remarkable disparities in its technical aspects. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of EIVOM technical aspects on acute MIth block.MethodsEighty consecutive patients (63 males, average age 66.4 ± 8.6 years) undergoing de novo PeAF ablation were assigned to different groups. The procedural parameters in “EIVOM first” (n = 13) or “RFCA first” (n = 13) as well as small dose ([SD], ≤4 ml, n = 26) or big dose ([BD], >4 ml, n = 54) approaches were analyzed to identify the predictors for acute MIth block.ResultsCompared with the “EIVOM first” approach, the “RFCA first” approach was associated with longer procedural and MIth ablation time (134 ± 27 min vs. 112 ± 17 min; 14.9 ± 5.5 min vs. 9.3 ± 5.1 min, both P < 0.05, respectively), but with comparable success of MIth block. The ethanol dose was 6.3 ± 1.5 ml in BD group vs. 3.1 ± 1.0 ml in SD group (P < 0.001) and was correlated significantly with the size of Δlow voltage area (r = 0.66, P < 0.001). The success of MIth block was 92.6% in BD group vs. 73.1% in SD group, P = 0.03. The ethanol dose >5.75 ml independently predicted successful MIth block (OR: 0.428, 95% CI: 0.219–0.839, P = 0.01).ConclusionsDespite the comparable effectiveness on MIth block, the “EIVOM first” approach was associated with shorter procedural and MIth ablation time than the “RFCA first” approach. The ethanol dose in EIVOM was an independent predictor for MIth block.
