Plots of chondrite-normalised rare earth element (REE) patterns often appear as smooth curves. These curves can be decomposed into orthogonal polynomial functions (shape components), each of which captures a feature of the total pattern. The coefficients of these components (known as the lambda coefficients—$$\lambda $$ λ ) can be derived using least-squares fitting, allowing quantitative description of REE patterns and dimension reduction of parameters required for this. The tetrad effect is similarly quantified using least-squares fitting of shape components to data, resulting in the tetrad coefficients ($$\tau $$ τ ). Our method allows fitting of all four tetrad coefficients together with tetrad-independent $$\lambda $$ λ curvature. We describe the mathematical derivation of the method and two tools to apply the method: the online interactive application BLambdaR, and the Python package pyrolite. We show several case studies that explore aspects of the method, its treatment of redox-anomalous REE, and possible pitfalls and considerations in its use.

Tetrad sterility, in which only clumps of four premature pollen grains are released from anthers, has been observed in some modern potato cultivars. It is a form of cytoplasmic male sterility caused by the cytoplasm derived from the Mexican tetraploid species Solanum stoloniferum Schltdl. & Bouche., an important source of resistance to Potato virus Y in potato breeding. However, since S. stoloniferum is highly polymorphic, the source of tetrad-sterility-causing cytoplasm is unknown among diverse S. stoloniferum accessions. In this study, we directly crossed 24 S. stoloniferum accessions with pollen from 4x S. tuberosum and obtained 39 hybrids from 12 accessions. Nineteen hybrids from six accessions showed tetrad sterility, with either D/γ- or W/γ-type cytoplasm, and were triploid, tetraploid, or hexaploid. The W/γ-type cytoplasm was not necessarily associated with tetrad sterility. Sequence comparisons of 17 mitochondrial genes and their intergenic regions revealed a length polymorphism in the intergenic region between rpl5 and rps10, in which an amplified band of 859 bp was associated with tetrad sterility. This specific cytoplasm causing tetrad sterility is named TSCsto. The 859-bp band will be a useful diagnostic marker for identifying TSCsto in potato breeding.

Abstract. Consensus is emerging that the constellation of dark personalities should include the sadistic personality. To build a four-factor measure, we modified and extended the Short Dark Triad (SD3) measure to include sadism. A series of three studies yielded the Short Dark Tetrad (SD4), a four subscale inventory with 7 items per construct. Study 1 ( N = 868) applied exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to a diverse 48-item pool using data collected on MTurk. A 4-factor solution revealed a separate sadism factor, as well as a shifted Dark Triad. Study 2 ( N = 999 students) applied EFA to a reduced 37-item set. Associations with adjustment and sex drive provided insight into unique personality dynamics of the four constructs. In Study 3 ( N = 660), a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of the final 28 items showed acceptable fit for a four-factor solution. Moreover, the resulting 7-item subscales each showed coherent links with the Big Five and adjustment. In sum, the four-factor structure replicated across student and community samples. Although they overlap to a moderate degree, the four subscales show distinctive correlates – even with a control for acquiescence. We also uncovered a novel link between sadism and sexuality, but no association with maladjustment.

Psychological accounts of literature research are chiefly associated with a psychoanalytical nomenclature, while research on personality psychology like the Five Factor Model and the Dark Tetrad has mostly been investigated using questionnaires and quantitative statistics. However, building upon a lexical understanding of the 30 Big Five personality facets, in tandem with the application of Dark Tetrad traits on popular culture analysis initiated by Jonason et al., this study analyses the personality profiles of five fictional protagonists, specifically five well-known novels of the renowned Japanese author Yukio Mishima.

The paper is devoted to the memory of Igor E. Dzyaloshinsky. In our common paper I.E. Dzyaloshinskii and G.E. Volovick, Poisson brackets in condensed matter, Ann. Phys. {\bf 125} 67--97 (1980), we discussed the elasticity theory described in terms of the gravitational field variables -- the elasticity vielbein $E_\mu^a$. They come from the phase fields, which describe the deformations of crystal. The important property of the elasticity vielbein $E^a_\mu$ is that in general they are not the square mstrices. While the spacetime index $\mu$ takes the values $\mu=(0,1,2,3)$, in crystals the index $a=(1,2,3)$, in vortex lattices $a=(1,2)$, and in smectic liquid crystals there is only one phase field, $a=1$. These phase fields can be considered as the spin gauge fields, which are similar to the gauge fields in Standard Model (SM) or in Grand Unification (GUT). On the other hand, the rectangular vielbein $e^\mu_a$ may emerge in the vicinity of Dirac points in Dirac materials. In particular, in the planar phase of the spin-triplet superfluid $^3$He the spacetime index $\mu=(0,1,2,3)$, while the spin index $a$ takes values $a=(0,1,2,3,4)$. Background/Objectives: With reference to the theory of general relativity, the rotating metrics can be designed with mass function ˆM (u; r) . Methods/Statistical analysis: The methods/analysis adapted is the theoretical and mathematical analysis on the theory of general relativity. Findings: The line element can be found out with the help of mass function ˆM(u; r) following the find of the covariant complex null tetrad vectors for the rotating metrics. Then, the NP spin — coefficients, the Ricci scalars, and the Weyl scalars for the rotating metrics can be found out. The expanded form of the mass function ˆM(u; r) with (a=0) can be shown from Wang and Wu (1999). From the expended form of the mass function ˆM(u; r)with (a = 0) , the NP coefficients can be derived. Abstract. The aim of this research was to examine the structure of the Dark Triad and Tetrad traits by answering the question whether a person-centered or a variable-centered approach is more suitable for their description, or its combination. Moreover, we examined whether the inclusion of sadism into the dark traits constellation would change the results. On a sample of 404 participants, both short and full-length measures of the Dark Triad were used, while sadism was assessed via Short Sadistic Impulse Scale. The results of the factor mixture analysis showed that the variable-centered approach is better at describing the Dark Triad, but the inclusion of sadism resulted in qualitatively different latent profiles, suggesting that the person-centered approach could serve in describing the Dark Tetrad. Inclusion of sadism led to the isolation of higher Dark Tetrad-sadism profile in both short and full-length measures and this profile showed the higher risk behaviors and interpersonal problems. Other isolated profiles could be interpreted as lower and higher Dark Tetrad profiles, with some specificities. Results showed that inclusion of sadism contributed to the isolation of profile more prone to sadism, but also to isolation of other profiles, suggesting that it could change the relations among dark traits.

In the framework of a teleparallel equivalent to general relativity, stationary axisymmetric space–time in the teleparallel gravity for two different sets of tetrad fields have been investigated. For these sets, we have obtained the expressions for the torsion vector, torsion axial-vector and the angular momentum of the solution. We found that the obtained expressions of the torsion axial-vector and the angular momentum are, in general, quite different in both sets of tetrad fields, while the expressions for the torsion vector have the same value. Moreover, the vector part connected with Dirac spin has been evaluated as well. Finally, special cases of the stationary axisymmetric space–time are discussed.

Theories such as the psychodynamic functions hypothesis, attribution theory, and the just world theory have been used to explain different types of supernatural belief. This study aims to examine “dark” personality traits and how they link to different beliefs using the Dark Tetrad. The Dark Tetrad” comprises narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and sadism. Relationships have been found between dark personality traits and religious belief, but no studies have examined the Dark Triad or Tetrad and paranormal and scientific belief directly. An opportunity sample of 199 participants completed an online survey including scales measuring Dark Tetrad traits, religious and paranormal belief, and belief in science. Path analysis revealed five significant relationships. Belief in psychokinesis was negatively related to Machiavellianism, as was belief in common paranormal perceptions, which was also positively related to psychopathy. Religious belief was negatively related to psychopathy but positively related to sadism. Findings suggest some links between Dark Tetrad traits and elements of supernatural belief. The unexpected positive relationship between religiosity and sadism indicate that religious believers believe in a just world where people get what they deserve. These findings indicate that religious and paranormal experience, and dark personality are avenues for future research.

To date, no studies have examined a range of structural models of the interpersonally aversive traits tapped by the Short Dark Tetrad (SD4; narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy, sadism), in conjunction with their measurement invariance (males vs. females) and how the models each predict external correlates. Using a large sample of young adults ( N = 3,975), four latent variable models were compared in terms of fit, measurement invariance, and prediction of intrapersonal and interpersonal functioning. The models tested were as follows: (Model A) confirmatory factor analytic, (Model B) bifactor, (Model C) exploratory structural equation model, and (Model D) a reduced-item confirmatory factor analytic that maximized item information. All models accounted for item covariance with good precision, although differed in incremental fit. Strong invariance held for all models, and each accounted similarly for the external correlates, highlighting differential predictive effects of the SD4 factors. The results provide support for four theoretically distinct but overlapping dark personality domains.

Various experimental reports address the stability of G-quadruplex DNA inside a close confinement such as α-hemolysin, nanocavity water pool and different metal-organic-frameworks (MOFs). To understand the conformational change of G-quadruplex DNA at the atomistic level, we have carried out a total of 40 μs simulation run under both non-polar and polar confinement conditions. To investigate the dynamics, we have considered two different KCl salt concentrations, i.e., 0.47 M (minimal salt concentration) and higher than 2 M (higher salt concentration), at two distinct temperatures, 300 K and 350 K. Here, we have observed that the human telomeric G-quadruplex DNA deviates more from its crystal structure at minimal salt concentration under both non-polar and polar confinement conditions. Besides, the loop regions deviate and fluctuate more compared to the other regions, i.e., sugar-phosphate backbone and tetrad regions. The presence of K+ ions is found to be primarily responsible for this phenomenon. From the spatial density function (SDF) plots, a higher density of K+ ions is observed in the backbone region. Furthermore, from the residue-wise first solvation shell estimation, we have noticed that the K+ ions mainly accumulate in the tetrad region under both non-polar and polar confinement conditions due to which the tetrad regions are more rigid than the loop regions. Higher salt concentration results in increased rigidity of the G-quadruplex DNA. Our study provides valuable insight into the conformational deviation of the G-quadruplex DNA under nanoconfinement conditions.

In this paper, we study the [Formula: see text] gravity model in the presence of bulk viscosity by the flat Friedmann–Robertson–Walker metric. The field equation is obtained by teleparallel gravity with a tetrad field. The universe components are considered matter and dark energy, with the dark energy component associated with viscous [Formula: see text] gravity. After calculating the Friedmann equations, we obtain the energy density, pressure, and equation of state of dark energy in terms of the redshift parameter. Afterward, we plot the corresponding cosmological parameters versus the redshift parameter and examine the accelerated expansion of the universe. In the end, we explore the system stability using a function called the speed sound parameter.

The main aim of this work is to track the evolution of the stiffness tetrad during large plastic strain. Therefore, the framework of a general finite plasticity theory is developed. Some special cases are examined, and the case of a material plasticity theory is considered more closely. Its main feature is that the elasticity law changes during plastic deformations, for which we develop an approach. As sample materials, we use three types of fiber-reinforced composites. For numerical experiments and verification of the model’s predictions, finite element simulations of representative volume elements for uni-, bi- and tri-directional reinforced materials with periodic boundary conditions are used. From these, we extract the stiffness tetrads before and after large deformations of the material. We quantify the change of the stiffness tetrads due to the fiber reorientation. Finally, we propose an analytical evolution with three parameters that account reasonably well for the evolution of the stiffness tetrad.

We aimed to unravel the underlying mechanisms of pollen wall development in Hydrangea bretschneiderii. For this, we tested our hypothesis that distinct physical processes, phase separation and micellar self-assembly, underpinned exine development by taking the substances, determined by the genome, through several phase transitions. We traced each developmental stage with TEM; then, we obtained in vitro simulations corresponding to those stages. The main steps of exine ontogeny observed in the microspore periplasmic space were initiated with phase separation, resulting in the conversion of homogeneous contents to heterogeneous two-layered state of the material. After each step of phase, separation self-assembly picked up the initiative and took the substances through the sequence of micellar mesophases which were the base for all the exine structures. These mesophases are as follows: spherical micelles, transforming first into columns, and then to cylindrical micelles which turn to columellae after initial sporopollenin accumulation. The tectum appeared along the interface of the phase separated material. After the tetrad disintegration and the next phase separation, laminate mesophase appeared being the base for the endexine lamellae. Then, a new step of phase separation at aperture sites brought the appearance of a granular endexine layer; the latter became intermixed finally with lamellae. This gives, together with experimental simulation, strong evidence that the genome “shifts a part of work” on exine formation onto physical processes, and the latter are an inherent mechanism of evolution.

The role of personality traits in the development of addictive use of different online activities has been extensively demonstrated in the previous studies. One new type of online activity is the watching of mukbang (the South Korean term for “eating broadcasts”). However, very little is known about addictive mukbang watching (AMW) and its relationship to personality constructs. The present study investigated the direct and indirect associations of Big Five personality traits (i.e., extroversion, neuroticism, agreeableness, openness, conscientiousness) and dark personality traits (i.e., narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy, sadism, spitefulness) with AMW via procrastination. An online survey that comprised items assessing the aforementioned variables was completed by 222 university students who had watched mukbang at least once in the previous week. Path analysis indicated that extroversion was indirectly negatively associated with AMW via procrastination. Furthermore, conscientiousness, sadism, and procrastination were directly positively associated with higher AMW. Findings suggest that individuals may develop and maintain uncontrolled mukbang watching in order to procrastinate and personality traits may play a contributing role in this association.

Tetrad synapses are formed between the retina photoreceptor terminals and postsynaptic cells in the first optic neuropil (lamina) of Drosophila. They are remodelled in the course of the day and show distinct functional changes during activity and sleep. These changes result from fast degradation of the presynaptic scaffolding protein Bruchpilot (BRP) by Cryptochrome (CRY) in the morning and depend on BRP-170, one of two BRP isoforms. This process also affects the number of synaptic vesicles, both clear and dense-core, delivered to the presynaptic elements. In cry01 mutants lacking CRY and in brpΔ170, the number of synaptic vesicles is lower in the morning peak of activity than during night-sleep while in wild-type flies the number of synaptic vesicles is similar at these two time points. CRY may also set phase of the circadian rhythm in plasticity of synapses. The process of synapse remodelling stimulates the formation of clear synaptic vesicles in the morning. They carry histamine, a neurotransmitter in tetrad synapses and seem to be formed from glial capitate projections inside the photoreceptor terminals. In turn dense-core vesicles probably carry synaptic proteins building the tetrad presynaptic element.

Subject. To assess the potential of corporate management of company’s foreign trade activities, the article considers the structure and functionality of its constituent systems and, particularly, the cross-border logistics as a process subsystem, are of interest nowadays. Objectives. Based on the main provisions of the theory of system economics, the study aims to build a structural and functional model of cross-border logistics, which is a process subsystem of the tetrad of company's foreign trade activities. Methods. The study draws on the systems approach, methods of analysis and synthesis, grouping and comparison, abstraction, generalization, analogies, logical analysis, and the management theory elements. Results. I built a structural and functional model of cross-border logistics as a subsystem of the tetrad of company's foreign trade activity, which meets the previously formulated conditions for model verification. The paper particularizes the systems of four types of basic typology and substantiates their inclusion in the process subsystem; discloses the essence of general economic processes implemented by each system, and determines the content of produced and consumed goods. I developed a model of interaction between administrative (customs regulation) and corporate (cross-border logistics) tetrads. Conclusions. The model enables to identify four systems that due to their functionality are responsible for movement of goods across the customs border, and to describe this process from the perspective of space-time approach. The movement of goods across the customs border is determined by the interaction of administrative and corporate tetrads, and the key factor is the activity of process subsystems.

Eukaryogenesis, the origin of the eukaryotes, is still poorly understood. Herein, we show how a detailed all-kingdom phylogenetic analysis overlaid with a map of key biochemical features can provide valuable clues. The photolyase/cryptochrome family of proteins are well known to repair DNA in response to potentially harmful effects of sunlight and to entrain circadian rhythms. Phylogenetic analysis of photolyase/cryptochrome protein sequences from a wide range of prokaryotes and eukaryotes points to a number of horizontal gene transfer events between ancestral bacteria and ancestral eukaryotes. Previous experimental research has characterised patterns of tryptophan residues in these proteins that are important for photoreception, specifically a tryptophan dyad, a canonical tryptophan triad, an alternative tryptophan triad, a tryptophan tetrad and an alternative tetrad. Our results suggest that the spread of the different triad and tetrad motifs across the kingdoms of life accompanied the putative horizontal gene transfers and is consistent with multiple bacterial contributions to eukaryogenesis. A hybrid-type G-quadruplex is modified with LNA (locked nucleic acid) and 2′-F-riboguanosine in various combinations at the two syn positions of its third antiparallel G-tract. LNA substitution in the central tetrad causes a complete rearrangement to either a V-loop or antiparallel structure, depending on further modifications at the 5′-neighboring site. In the two distinct structural contexts, LNA-induced stabilization is most effective compared to modifications with other G surrogates, highlighting a potential use of LNA residues for designing not only parallel but various more complex G4 structures. For instance, the conventional V-loop is a structural element strongly favored by an LNA modification at the V-loop 3′-end in contrast with an alternative V-loop, clearly distinguishable by altered conformational properties and base-backbone interactions as shown in a detailed analysis of V-loop structures.

We describe a new perturbation theory for General Relativity, with the chiral first-order Einstein-Cartan action as the starting point. Our main result is a new gauge-fixing procedure that eliminates the connection-to-connection propagator. All other known first-order formalisms have this propagator non-zero, which significantly increases the combinatorial complexity of any perturbative calculation. In contrast, in the absence of the connection-to-connection propagator, our formalism leads to an effective description in which only the metric (or tetrad) propagates, there are only cubic and quartic vertices, but some vertex legs are special in that they cannot be connected by the propagator. A rational approach to the Fermi-Walker transport equation is proposed by deriving it from a condition of “non-rotation”. First, the condition is applied to a tetrad basis and then generalized to an arbitrary space-time four-vector. The method is conceptually simple and apart from the use of tetrad bases in four-dimensional space-time, does not require the effort of visualizing abstract geometrical constructs in spaces of more than three dimensions. The argument develops in the context of the flat space-time of special relativity theory but the final result can be immediately extended to curved space-time.

Research background: So far, many methods of direct measurement of similarity in multidimensional scaling have been developed (e.g. ranking, sorting, pairwise comparison and others). The method selection affects the subjective feelings of the respondents, i.e. fatigue, weariness resulting from making numerous assessments, or difficulties in expressing similarity assessments. Purpose: In the proposed method, for all four-element sets (tetrads) of objects a respondent is asked to pick out the most similar and the least similar pair. Because the number of tetrads increases very rapidly with the number of objects, the aim of the study is to indicate the possibility of measuring similarities based on the reduced number of tetrads. Research methodology: In order to make scaling results independent from respondents’ subjective effects the analysis was made on the basis of the given distance matrix. To construct perceptual maps based on tetrads, multidimensional scaling with the use of the MINISSA program was performed. The quality of matching the resulting points configuration to the configuration determined based on the distance matrix was tested by a Procrustes statistic. Results: It was demonstrated that the choice of the incomplete set of tetrads has no significant effect on the results of multidimensional scaling, even when all pairs of objects in tetrads cannot be presented equally frequently. The aperture on the pollen surface provides an exit for the emerging pollen tube. Apertures exhibit huge morphological variation across plant species-grasses, including rice, possess a complex aperture consisting of an annulus and an operculum-but little is known about how this species-specific cell-surface pattern forms. Here, we report a lectin receptor-like kinase in Oryza sativa, OsDAF1, which is essential for annulus formation and thus for fertility. OsDAF1 is evenly distributed in early microsporocytes but localizes to the distal pre-aperture site at the tetrad stage. We further reveal that the rice orthologue of a key aperture factor in Arabidopsis, OsINP1, has conserved and diversified roles in rice aperture formation. Disruption of OsINP1 prevents formation of the aperture, precluding pollen-tube germination. Furthermore, our results demonstrate that OsINP1 is required for polarization of OsDAF1 via direct protein interaction, suggesting that OsINP1 has an additional role in the formation of annulus that is absent in Arabidopsis. Our study reveals the importance of the aperture for rice grain yield and reveals mechanisms controlling pollen aperture development in cereal species.

Understanding spatiotemporal organization in bacteria under an external AC electric field is not only very interesting from a perspective of studying assembly and disassembly in a model biofilm but also provides insight into the intricate role of anisotropic interaction with bacterial dynamics that can generate interesting complex structures. In the current study, using confocal microscopy, we demonstrate such complex assemblies of monodisperse tetrad clusters of Micrococcus luteus, an environmental bacterium synthesized under a controlled growth condition. These clusters under the AC field produce a range of interesting structures such as chains, double helix, and bundles, which are instantaneously reversible when the field is switched off. Our studies can provide important insights into the natural organization of the clustered bacterium (with relevance in biofilm-like states) and generate strategies for biomaterial fabrication with a switchable functionality.

Mixed 2'-F-riboguanosine and 2'-F-arabinoguanosine disubstitutions of a hybrid-type G-quadruplex are found to induce a refolding into two alternative structures with different types of V-loops upon positional exchange of the two G analogs. While conformational preferences of the incorporated G surrogates fail to fully account for the observed rearrangements, additional hydrogen bonds with a fluorine acceptor are suggested to be critical determinants of the two distinct V-loop conformers imposing different tetrad polarities.

The analysis of results of expeditious treatment and complications will allow to solve problems of timely diagnostics, treatment and prevention of the reasons of an unsatisfactory clinical condition of patients at all stages of postoperative maintaining. Objective: Studying the structure of postoperative complications, determination of the causes of postoperative complications at a hospital stage at patients after a definitive and palliative repair of Fallo's tetrad definition of diagnostic and medical tactics in the postoperative period. Material and methods:The studied patients with Fallo's tetrad (126 children aged from 2 days till 9 years, from them boys - 64, girls - 62) were distributed on 2 main groups: after the definitive repair of defect (DRD) and after the palliative correction of defect (PCD). The complex assessment of postoperative complications at patients with TF was carried out with use of clinical-laboratory research methods. Results:Complications at a hospital stage arose in 38 (45.2%) cases from 84 (100%) patients after a definitive repair and in 17 (50%) cases from 34 (100%) – after palliative correction of Fallo's tetrad. The structure of complications after a definitive and palliative repair of defect is defined. The reasons and risk factors of development of postoperative complications after surgical correction of Fallo's tetrad are defined. Features of a clinical current of complications after a definitive and palliative repair of Fallo's tetrad are noted. Optimum tactics in treatment of postoperative complications at a hospital stage after a definitive and palliative repair of Fallo's tetrad is defined.

This paper shows the diversity and significance of relations of duality among different economic systems. The composition of the principles underlying the system economic theory used for the analysis of duality in the economy is investigated. The concept of the economic system is clarified and the equivalence of three basic concepts of the economic system is shown: a) as a space-time volume (“black box”); b) as a complex of elements and connections among them; c) as a tetrad, including object, project, process and environment components. In a new way, the concept of the tetrad is revealed. The actual interpretation of the interrelationships of its components, based on the mechanisms of intersystem circulation of spatial and temporal resources and the transmission of abilities from one economic system to another, is proposed. On the basis of the obtained results, the most essential aspects of duality in the theory of economic systems are considered. It is shown that the interaction of internal content and the nearest external environment of economic systems lies in the nature of the relations of duality. A new approach to modeling the structure and to functioning of the economic system, based on the description of its activities in the form of two interconnected tetrads (the first tetrad reflects the intrasystem production cycle and the second one — the external realization-reproduction cycle) is put forward. It is shown that the concept of duality in a system economy creates prerequisites for adapting the functioning of local economic systems (objects, projects, etc.) in a market, administrative and functional environments and, as a result, harmonizing the economy as a whole.

In the general theory of relativity the Rindler coordinate theory has been extended to the Rindler coordinate theory of accelerated observer that has already some initial velocity. In this paper, we present this extended theory that uses the tetrad as the new method, and discover the new inverse-coordinate transformation. Specially, if, a0 < 0 , this theory treats the observer with the initial velocity that does slowdown by the constant negative acceleration in the Rindler’s time-space. We consider the light’s Doppler Effect in the accelerated system as well as the decelerated system.

We study the motion of a gyroscope located far away from an isolated gravitational source in an asymptotically flat space-time. As seen from a local frame `tied to distant stars', the gyroscope precesses when gravitational waves cross its path, resulting in a net `orientation memory' that carries information on the wave profile. The effect is related to asymptotic symmetries: at leading order in the inverse distance to the source, the precession rate coincides with the (covariant) dual mass aspect, providing a celestially local measurement protocol for dual supertranslation charges. Furthermore, the net gyroscopic memory is derived from flux-balance equations for superrotations and contains an extra flux generating electric-magnetic duality.
