Purpose: The present research aimed to examine the possibility of damage to tooth support tissues induced by temperature changes on the external root surface while applying different obturation techniques. Methods: One hundred fifty mandibular premolar teeth were prepared using a ProTaper Next nickel-titanium rotary file system. After the preparation, the distance between the inner dentin and the external cementum was measured at nine points with cone-beam computed tomography. Then, 100 teeth with the closest dentin thickness were included in the study. The teeth were randomly divided into five groups: cold lateral condensation, warm vertical condensation, continuous-wave obturation, thermoplastic injection, and carrier-based obturation techniques. Temperature changes were measured from the external root surface with the degree of intraoral temperature while applying obturation techniques. Results: The warm vertical condensation technique caused the highest temperature increases statistically, and the lowest temperature increases were detected while applying the cold lateral condensation and carrier-based obturation techniques. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the impact of repeated use within curved root canals on the surface characteristics of both reciprocating and rotary instruments, using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) for detailed analysis. Methods: Curved acrylic blocks were randomly divided into two groups and were prepared using WaveOne Gold (WOG) and One Curve (OC) files. Both WOG and OC groups were further divided into subgroups: control, 1st use, 2nd use, 3rd use, and separated files. Following each use, the instruments underwent ultrasonic cleaning and sterilization procedures. These procedures continued until fracture occurred and changes in the surface characteristics of files were examined under FESEM. Descriptive data were reported for each group. Results: With increasing use within each group, the instruments exhibited a rise in the frequency of surface damage, including cracks, flattening, deterioration of cutting edges, microcavities, and debris accumulation. A fracture occurred in the OC file after the 8th use, while the WOG file fractured after the 6th use. Conclusion: Repeated use increased defects and deformations in both files. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of common dental anomalies in children. Methods: In this study, 5280 digital orthopantomographic images of patients aged 5-16 years were retrospectively analyzed. A total of 3619 digital orthopantomographic images that met the study criteria were evaluated. Descriptive statistics of the categorical data obtained were analyzed using percentage and frequency analyses, followed by Pearson Chi-Square or Fisher’s Exact test for binary group comparisons. The significance level for statistical analyses was set at (p < 0.05). Results: In the individuals included in the study, at least one dental anomaly was detected in 13.78%. Numerical anomalies were the most commonly observed type of anomaly, with hypodontia being the anomaly with the highest prevalence in this group. A statistically significant difference was observed between genders in the frequency of supernumerary teeth, ectopy, and mesiodens (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Dental anomalies can occur in different types in humans. Clinicians can prevent future dental problems that may occur in later ages with the early diagnosis and treatment of dental anomalies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: There are different methods for determining the required space for unerupted teeth. However, the accuracy of these techniques varies depending on ethnic differences. Therefore, the current study was performed to compare the accuracy of four methods for estimating the mesiodistal width of unerupted canines and premolars in a population of northern Iran. Methods: The present cross-sectional study was conducted on 50 pairs of dental casts of patients aged 12–24 years old. The mesiodistal width of the teeth was measured with a digital caliper by two observers (ICC < 0.9), and the mean value was recorded. The space required for eruption of canines and premolars was obtained by the Tanaka-Johnson formula and the Moyers tables and compared with the actual value by paired t test. Results: The Tanaka-Johnson formula had overestimation in the maxilla and mandible, which was statistically significant (p < 0.001). The values obtained from the Moyers tables in different confidence levels were not accurate. However, the 65% level for the mandible had almost no difference from the actual value (P = 0.996 and r2 = 0.503). Furthermore, linear regression was obtained based on the total mesiodistal width of the maxillary first molar and mandibular central incisor (maxilla: Yx= 0.613X + 2.23 and mandible: Ym= 0.618X + 1.6) and the total mesiodistal width of the mandibular first molar and maxillary central incisor in each jaw (maxilla: Yx = 0.424X + 5.021 and mandible: Ym = 0.447X + 3.631). Conclusion: The Tanaka-Johnson method was overestimated in the population of northern Iran. The 85% and 75% confidence levels of the Moyers table have the best clinical results for the maxilla and mandible, respectively. Objectives: To identify the molecular etiology of distinct dental anomalies found in eight Thai patients and explore the mutational effects on cellular functions. Materials and Methods: Clinical and radiographic examinations were performed for eight patients. Whole exome sequencing, mutant protein modelling, qPCR, western blot analysis, scratch assays, immunofluorescence, confocal analysis, in situ hybridization, and scanning electron micrography of teeth were done. Results: All patients had molars with multiple supernumerary cusps, single‐cusped premolars, and a reduction in root number. Mutation analysis highlighted a heterozygous c.865A>G; p.Ile289Val mutation in CACNA1S in the patients. CACNA1S is a component of the slowly inactivating L‐type voltage‐dependent calcium channel. Mutant protein modeling suggested that the mutation might allow leakage of Ca2+ or other cations, or a tightening, to restrict calcium flow. Immunohistochemistry analysis showed expression of Cacna1s in the developing murine tooth epithelium during stages of crown and root morphogenesis. In cell culture, the mutation resulted in abnormal cell migration of transfected CHO cells compared to wildtype CACNA1S, with changes to the cytoskeleton and markers of focal adhesion. Conclusions: The malformations observed in our patients suggest a role for calcium signaling in organization of both cusps and roots, affecting cell dynamics within the dental epithelium. Dentigerous cysts are known as the second most common type of cyst in the jaws. The cyst is one of the lesions occurred frequently in the posterior body of the mandible and is often related to the unerupted third molar and forms around the crown of the unerupted tooth attaching at the cementoenamel junction. Such characteristic appearances are the diagnostic points differentiating from ameloblastoma or odontogenic keratocyst. However, it would be hard for us to diagnose it as a dentigerous cyst if the lesion does not show its typical appearance. We experienced two cases of dentigerous cysts which did not form around the crown of the unerupted tooth on radiologically. Both cysts were relatively large and resorbed adjacent teeth roots. Therefore, an ameloblastoma or an odontogenic keratocyst was suspected rather than a dentigerous cyst as the imaging diagnosis. The biopsy revealed that the lesion was a "dentigerous cyst" in one of the cases and "developmental cyst with inflammation" in another case. After the excision, the histopathological diagnosis was a dentigerous cyst with inflammation in both cases. This report shows the two cases of dentigerous cysts focusing on panoramic radiography and CT images. Also, we discuss the differential diagnosis by reconsidering those diagnostic points. Enamel hypoplasia (EH) is a qualitative defect, and it can have a significant impact on oral health. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of enamel hypoplasia in urban area in Albania. Methodology: In total, 234 children of both sexes aged 8–12 years old were randomly selected in five schools in Tirana, Albania. They underwent an intra-oral examination. Diagnostic criteria were in accordance with a European meeting on MIH held in Athens, 2003, and the FDI. Medical history was retrieved using questionnaires, and data obtained from clinical examination were recorded. Results: The prevalence of enamel hypoplasia was 12.8%. The most commonly occurring enamel hypoplasia was the mild type (58.62%). The mandibular first molar showed the highest prevalence of enamel hypoplasia (19.5%), and the maxillary canines and premolars were the least affected (2.3%). In this study, medical story did not have a significant effect on enamel hypoplasia. Conclusions: The prevalence of enamel hypoplasia remains high at 12.8%. Interestingly, the features of enamel hypoplasia were consistent across both sexes, with no correlation found between them. The predominant occurrence of mild enamel hypoplasia underscores the importance of implementing oral hygiene strategies in schools to mitigate its progression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Endodontic treatment in dens invaginatus anomaly is associated with challenges in all stages. This case report outlines the therapy provided for tooth #10 with occasional pain. In examinations, tenderness to percussion and touch and non-response to sensibility tests were observed, and pulp necrosis and symptomatic periapical periodontitis were diagnosed. Radiographic evaluation showed a structural anomaly related to the dens invaginatus and the associated periapical lesion. Cone-beam computed tomography confirmed the presence of DI type II. Endodontic treatment combined with photodynamic therapy and active irrigation using a dental operating microscope was successful and radiographic examinations showed periapical healing along with bone formation in 6-month and 1-year follow-ups. Background and objectives: The literature about oral manifestations and dental management in maple syrup urine disease (MSUD) is sparse. The aim of this report is to present a new case of MSUD with special emphasis on oral findings and to review the relevant literature. Method: A case report of a 4-year-old boy with MSUD was described according to the CARE guidelines for describing case reports. Scoping review of relevant literature was performed, according to the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, by searching PubMed, Medline, Embase, and the grey literature for articles describing dental management and/or oral manifestations in MSUD. Results: The initial search identified 219 articles, but only 4 met the inclusion criteria. Rampant caries and plaque induced gingivitis were the main oro-dental findings in MSUD. Other oral findings included enamel hypoplasia, skeletal abnormalities, and abnormal oral behaviors. Disease-related factors appeared to play a major role in the development of the observed oral phenotype. Conclusion: Oral health in MSUD seems to be influenced by the reliance on semi-synthetic diet and associated neurocognitive complications. Environmental toxins are known to have many impacts on growth and development in humans, starting in utero. Alterations in amelogenesis, caused by chemical and physical trauma that occur during the antenatal, perinatal and postnatal time periods, may result in developmental defects in deciduous and permanent tooth enamel, as demonstrated in animal studies. These defects can be clinically visible and result in a variety of morphological and functional problems in the dentition. Since enamel does not remodel after formation, it may serve as a permanent record of insults during organ development. Our primary purpose was to investigate any possible relationship between intrauterine exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (phenols and phthalates) and developmental defects in enamel in children, while also accounting for fluoride exposure. Our secondary purpose was to report descriptively on findings from comprehensive dental examinations performed on 356 children that were drawn from the general paediatric population. A cohort of children from the Utah Children's Project (N = 356) that had full medical exams, comprehensive medical and family histories and available biospecimens were given extraoral and intraoral examinations. They also completed an oral health questionnaire. Standardized intraoral photographs were taken of the teeth and viewed by standardised examiners and the dental observations were recorded for a full inventory of findings, including: tooth morphology, caries, restorations, colorations, attrition, erosion, fractures and hypomineralization. Perinatal maternal urine samples were assessed for the concentration of fluoride, phenols and phthalates, including bisphenol A (BPA). Pairwise statistical analyses were done to correlate the dental findings with one another and with the presence of environment chemicals found in the urine samples. Hypomineralization was the most common finding (96% of children; 37% of deciduous teeth, 42% of permanent teeth), consistent with molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) described in other human populations. No consistent correlations were seen between dental findings and the presence of phenols and phthalates in prenatal urine, but the number of samples available for the assessment was limited (n = 35). In conclusion, we found a high proportion of dental hypomineralization in a population based paediatric cohort, but did not find an association with prenatal exposure to phenols and phthalates. Background: Panoramic radiographs (PRs) are used in the detection and diagnosis of developmental dental anomalies and pathologies (DDAPs) in children. Aim: The primary objective of this observational cohort study was to evaluate the age‐based prevalence of DDAP on PRs, whereas the secondary objective was to determine a threshold age for the detection of DDAP to provide supportive evidence for the prescription of PR in paediatric dental practice. Design: The study examined diagnostic PRs from 581 subjects aged 6 to 19 years. All PRs were reviewed by experienced, calibrated, masked examiners for the identification or presence of anomalies in size, shape, position, structure, and other developmental anomalies and pathologies (ODAP) of the face–neck region in a standardized condition. The data were statistically analyzed for interpretation. Results: Overall, 74% (n = 411) of the cohort had at least one anomaly (shape anomaly: 12%, number anomaly: 17%, positional anomaly: 28%, structural anomaly: 0%, and ODAP: 63%). The optimal Youden index cutoff for any anomaly was 9 years. Twelve and 15 years also showed predictive ability. An observational study was carried out in a teaching hospital in Saudi Arabia to determine the occurrence of dental anomalies among Arabian children. The study included children of Saudi nationality with primary teeth. The study assessed the prevalence of dental anomalies in their primary dentition. The assessment and data collection were conducted by a single examiner, utilizing clinical examination and intra-oral radiographs. A comparative analysis was conducted to examine dental anomalies in relation to gender (boys and girls) and arch type (maxillary and mandibular). In addition, the study explored the occurrence of gender-specific dental anomalies depending on arch type. The data analysis was conducted using IBM Statistics (version 21.0) with a significance level of p < 0.05. In total, there were 245 children included in the final analysis. The study population consisted of boys (66%) and girls (34%), with an average age of 4.87 ± 0.9 years. Taurodontism was the most prevalent dental abnormality, occurring in 2.8% of the individuals in the study sample. The study sample exhibited hypodontia in 2%, supernumerary teeth in 2.4%, double teeth in 2%, and microdontia in 1.2%. Talon cusp and macrodontia have a relatively low incidence of 0.4%. Boys exhibit supernumerary teeth, microdontia, macrodontia, talon cusp, and taurodontism, whereas hypodontia and double teeth were more frequent in girls. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ectodermal dysplasia (ED) is one of the congenitally syndromic diseases with dental anomalies. This syndrome manifests in various forms and usually requires early restorative therapy to restore esthetics and function in young patients. The restorative approaches vary greatly and range from minimally invasive shape corrections using composite build-ups and removable partial or complete dental prostheses, to implantologic solutions, always based on the syndromic expression, the age of the patient, the residual growth, as well as the dentition itself. The present case report presents an innovative prosthetic management of a young patient suffering from ED with permanent tooth aplasia and persistent primary teeth using maxillomandibular individually veneered tooth-colored CAD/CAM polycarbonate splints. The CAD phase has been significantly improved by including the analysis of 3D face scans. This advanced technical development makes it possible to avoid any time-consuming try-in and start directly with the splint production, ensuring a much faster complete rehabilitation and support for the young patient. Background: Dento-maxillofacial deformities are common problems. Orthodontic–orthognathic surgery is the primary treatment but accurate diagnosis and careful surgical planning are essential for optimum outcomes. This study aimed to establish and verify a machine learning–based decision support system for treatment of dento-maxillofacial malformations. Methods: Patients (n = 574) with dento-maxillofacial deformities undergoing spiral CT during January 2015 to August 2020 were enrolled to train diagnostic models based on five different machine learning algorithms; the diagnostic performances were compared with expert diagnoses. Accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve (AUC) were calculated. The adaptive artificial bee colony algorithm was employed to formulate the orthognathic surgical plan, and subsequently evaluated by maxillofacial surgeons in a cohort of 50 patients. The objective evaluation included the difference in bone position between the artificial intelligence (AI) generated and actual surgical plans for the patient, along with discrepancies in postoperative cephalometric analysis outcomes. Results: The binary relevance extreme gradient boosting model performed best, with diagnostic success rates > 90% for six different kinds of dento-maxillofacial deformities; the exception was maxillary overdevelopment (89.27%). AUC was > 0.88 for all diagnostic types. Median score for the surgical plans was 9, and was improved after human–computer interaction. There was no statistically significant difference between the actual and AI- groups. Conclusions: Machine learning algorithms are effective for diagnosis and surgical planning of dento-maxillofacial deformities and help improve diagnostic efficiency, especially in lower medical centers. Background: Forced eruption of an impacted tooth usually requires surgical and orthodontic interventions to successfully bring the tooth into the dental arch. The clinical time required for a forced eruption is difficult to predict before treatment begins and success rates are affected by several factors before and after an eruption. This study was conducted to identify factors that affect the success of forced eruption, the duration of orthodontic treatment of impacted teeth, and the reasons for re-operation and forced eruption failure in a various teeth and cases. Methods: In this retrospective study, the records regarding the forced eruption of 468 teeth in 371 patients from June 2006 to May 2020 at the Advanced General Dentistry Department of Yonsei University Dental Hospital were initially examined. The records of 214 teeth in 178 patients who completed orthodontic treatment were included in the analysis. Data on patient demographics, tooth characteristics, orthodontic treatment duration, re-operations, and failures were collected from electronic medical records. Results: There was a significant difference in age between the success and failure forced eruption. Factors significantly affecting treatment duration were apex formation, position, rotation, and re-operation. Re-operation had a 96% success rate. The average orthodontic treatment duration was 29.99 ± 16.93 months, but the average orthodontic treatment duration for teeth that undergone re-operation was 20.36 ± 11.05 months, which was approximately 9 months shorter. Additionally, there was an interaction effect between rotation and re-operation on the duration of orthodontic treatment. The causes for failure of forced eruption in 6 cases were ankyloses (3 cases), incomplete alignment with the normal dental arch (2 cases), and a significant deviation in the impacted tooth's location (1 case). Conclusions: To increase the success rate of forced eruption, age should be considered as a priority, and in order to predict the treatment period, the apex formation status, position in the arch, and rotation should be considered in addition to age. Objective: To evaluate root coverage (RC) in deep single antero‐mandibular RT2 and RT3 gingival recessions (GR) and to investigate the influence of several factors in RC. Materials and Methods: Fifteen single antero‐mandibular GR with a minimum depth of 3 mm were consecutively treated with a new one‐stage technique (laterally positioned flap with a tunnel access and a connective tissue graft). At baseline and at 12‐month follow‐up, the percentage of mean root coverage (%MRC), the recession reduction (RecRed), complete root coverage (CRC) and the gain of keratinized tissue width (KTW) were assessed. Descriptive, intergroup comparative and correlation analyses were performed. Results: At 12 months, a %MRC of 77.29 ± 21.48% with a mean RecRed of 4.10 ± 1.51 mm was achieved. The %MRC was 84.71 ± 21.08% in RT2, and 62.43 ± 14.17% in RT3. The mean gain of KTW was 2.10 ± 0.89 mm, with a mean gain of 2.0 ± 1.03 mm for RT2 and 2.3 ± 0.57 mm for RT3. CRC was observed in six cases, all of them being RT2. A positive association was found between the %MRC and the initial position of the tooth and of both papillae. Conclusions: This technique might be a valuable approach for the treatment of deep single antero‐mandibular RT2 and RT3 recessions, even in malpositioned teeth. Clinical Significance: A combination of different surgical techniques could provide greater vascularization to the CTG especially in malpositioned teeth in sextant V with a large avascular area to be covered. Background: The lateral profile is an important indicator of facial attractiveness. This study explored the general characteristics of the forehead profile and protrusion, and their relationship with related factors in structure and development. Methods: Four hundred fourteen Chinese participants in the Yangtze River Delta region were involved. Including 206 males (17.15 ± 7.68 years old) and 208 females (18.35 ± 8.06 years old); 94 children (8.54 ± 2.21 years old, ranging from 4 to 12 years old), 166 adolescents (14.83 ± 1.50 years old, ranging from 13 to 17 years old), and 154 adults (25.52 ± 4.89, 18 years or older). The frontal section of the forehead was used to explore its shape. The straight distance between the vertical line of the FH plane through the nasal root point and its parallel line, which is tangential to the forehead, indicates the forehead prominence. Frontal sinus width was measured using the method described by Mahmood. Results: The general shape of the forehead was straight and slightly bulged near the eyebrow arch in males but rounder in females. The average forehead protrusion in males was higher than that in females in adults. Significant differences in forehead protrusion between the dentoskeletal classifications and growth phases were notable. Frontal protrusion significantly correlated with frontal sinus depth, especially in males, adults, Class I, and those whose convex points were located in the lower section of the forehead. Conclusions: Age, race, and sex affect the forehead protrusion and frontal sinus width. Forehead protrusion may be an indicator of dentoskeletal deformities in the early stage. And dentoskeletal deformities may impair the correlation between the frontal sinuses and forehead protrusion during development. Overall, 35 observational studies were included, and the results estimated a pooled prevalence of the following dental anomalies: discoloration, 53%; crown-root malformations and agenesis, 36%; enamel hypoplasia, 32%; root development alterations, 29%; unerupted teeth, 24%; microdontia, 16%; hypodontia, 13%; and macrodontia, 7%. Most childhood cancer survivors have at least one dental sequela. Childhood cancer survivors presented a higher risk of having dental alterations than control counterparts. Additional analyses reveal possible sex-based differences that should be explored in future studies. Enamel renal gingival syndrome is a rare clinical condition characterized by the presence of amelogenesis imperfecta hypoplastic type, gingival fibromatosis and delayed tooth eruption, in addition to nephrocalcinosis with normal blood calcium levels. It is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait caused by mutations in the FAM20A gene located on chromosome 17q24.2. Objective: To introduce the "Peripheral Build‐Up technique – PBUt" as a foundation restoration strategy for structurally compromised teeth (SCT). Clinical Considerations: Several strategies have been proposed over time (cervical marginal relocation, doughnut, and preformed ring techniques) to enable the management of restorative procedures in challenging situations such as the presence of deep subgingival defects. The PBUt is a versatile, completely additive direct technique that share some strategical concepts with these techniques to approach critical clinical situations while supplying a wider field of application thanks to distinct operative expedients. The clamp insertion modality, the extension of the proximal wall and the matrix customization/stabilization strategies adopted in PBUt endorse the possibility to manage the most apical and peripheral border of the residual tooth structure when located up to >1.5 mm above the bone crest. The periodontal response has to be then monitored over time. Moreover, thanks to the peripheral and apically‐extended addictive approach, it allows a massive preservation of residual sound tooth structure and improves the resistance and retentive physical/geometrical features of the abutment tooth. The PBUt operative workflow is herein explained. Objective: A comprehensive classification of structurally compromised teeth (SCT) was introduced. To standardize the overall pre‐operative evaluations and determine the biological and mechanical features, a classification of the coronal and cervical tooth defects, as well as an attentive analysis of the most apical location of the residual cervical tooth structure along the whole perimeter and the most coronal location of the bucco/lingual residual structure was presented. Considering the residual cervical structure, five possible clinical scenarios were individuated with respect to the gingival margin, gingival sulcus, supracrestal tissue attachment and bone crest (BC). The latter prevents the isolation procedures rendering the adhesive restorations unfeasible. Instead, the location of the most apical portion of residual cervical structure within subgingival/intrasulcular depth (>1.5 mm above BC) can be considered restorable. Conclusions: This classification is threefold: to enclose all the possible clinically encountered tooth defects, to identify the apical problems of SCT to appropriately manage the perio‐restorative interfaces, and to evaluate the tooth resistance capacity of SCT, as to plan and perform the most adequate biomechanical restorative approach. Objective: To assess the association between hypodontia and skeletal malocclusions in orthodontic patients. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study comprised of orthodontic records of 40 hypodontic patients (12 males and 28 females) and 120 non hypodontic patients (58 males and 62 females) as control group matched for gender and age with the study sample who came to the orthodontic department for their treatment were selected. Orthopantamograms were evaluated for hypodontia, whereas lateral cephalogram were traced to determine the cephalometric parameters. The association between different classes of skeletal malocclusion and hypodontia was determined using Pearson's Chi-square test and the cephalometric parameters between patients with hypodontia and without hypodontia (controls) were assessed using Student's t -test. Result: In hypodontic group, 19 (47.5%) patients had skeletal class II, 18 (45%) patients had skeletal class I, and only 3 (7.5%) patients had skeletal class III malocclusions. Whereas in non-hypodontic group (control group), 86 (53.75%) patients had skeletal class II, 63 (39.38%) patients had skeletal class I, and 11 (6.87%) patients had skeletal class III malocclusions. There was no statistical difference between hypodontia and different skeletal classes of malocclusions (p =.654). Cephalometric parameters between the control group and hypodontic group did not reveal any significant difference (p >.05). Conclusion: This study did not find any association between different classes of skeletal malocclusions and hypodontia. The cephalometric skeletal parameters were not significantly different in hypodontic and control group. Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the factors that are effective in seeking orthodontic treatment of Turkish adult individuals and to evaluate the effects of demographic characteristics such as gender, age, marital status, and educational status of the participants on these factors comparatively. Methods: A questionnaire-based study was applied to participants who want to receive orthodontic treatment. In the first part, the participants were asked about demographic information such as gender, age, marital status, occupation, and educational status. A total of 542 people (330 female and 212 male) were included in our study. The age of participants included in the study ranged between 18 and 45. Questions about oral hygiene, regular dental check-ups and the factors that affect in seeking orthodontic treatment were asked in the second part of the questionnaire. Results: Young adults and females were found to have a higher rate of seeking orthodontic treatment. When the participants were asked what led them to orthodontic treatment, 72.1% of the participants stated that they thought it as a necessity such that they should receive orthodontic treatment. Material selection in orthodontic treatment shows statistical significance according to demographic characteristics (p < 0.05). While 48% of the participants in the 18ȓ24 age group preferred metal orthodontic brackets, 37.9% of the participants in the 25–45 age group preferred clear aligner. Moreover, 40.4% of the married participants preferred clear aligner, while 45.1% of the single participants preferred metal orthodontic brackets. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the long-term skeletal stability of mandibular advancement and mandibular setback achieved with bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSRO) procedure in adult patients with a minimum follow-up of at least 1 year. Methods: A literature search was systematically performed according to PRISMA guidelines from four databases without limitation till 15 June 2021. Available literature was assessed for long-term skeletal stability as horizontal/vertical changes at cephalometric point B following conventional mandibular surgery (BSSRO) with rigid internal fixation. The quality of selected articles was assessed using Newcastle–Ottawa scale and the meta-analysis was carried out with Q statistic method, I-squared statistics, and fixed-effect model to estimate the pooled mean and Begg–Mazumdar bias indicator. Results: A total of five studies (three pertaining to mandibular advancement and two setback groups) were included for comparative evaluation of relapse. The mean horizontal relapse was 7.85% pertaining to mandibular advancement (4.2–7.06 mm) as compared to 27% pertaining to mandibular setback (7.18–10.26 mm). The meta-analysis of four included studies (two in each group) revealed significant differences in long-term skeletal stability of mandibular advancement and setback (pooled proportion = 20.10; 95% confidence interval = 2.48–39.57). Conclusion: Mandibular setback can be expected to relapse by 21.7–32.3% (mean 27%) as compared to mandibular advancement accounting for a relapse of 2.1–15.4% (mean 7.85%) in adult patients. Background: With orthodontic patient demographics expanding to involve more adults, the demand for esthetic appliances is greater and orthodontists are keen on offering their patients more discreet and even invisible options. Clear aligners are a very viable option which offers all this, and it is noteworthy that more and more orthodontists in India are practicing the craft. Keeping this vision in mind, and the fact that aligners are revolutionary and here to stay, this study was conducted to assess the efficiency of various tooth movements carried out with clear aligner therapy as compared to traditional orthodontic treatment. Aim: This questionnaire-based survey aimed to analyze and assess the orthodontists' perception and experience of various tooth movements carried out with clear aligner in their routine clinical practice in India. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted by sending out a questionnaire on a virtual platform. It was approved by the Ethical Committee of the Dental Institute it was carried out in (Ref no: SDCH/IEC/OUT 2021/13). A sample size of 205 participants within the age group of 27–59 years was taken. The participants comprised of orthodontists practicing in various parts of India. A questionnaire, comprising of 22 closed-ended questions, was created on Google forms and circulated to participants using various social media platforms. The data of responses of participants were analyzed and evaluated with the help of chi-square test and p values were interpreted for the significance of responses. Results: This survey analyzed the experience of orthodontists with respect to the various tooth movements carried out with clear aligners. There were mixed responses, but most of them suggested the aligners to be either same in effectiveness or poorer than the fixed appliances in carrying out various tooth movements. Conclusion: This questionnaire-based survey helped in analyzing the orthodontists' perception on the use of clear aligners in their routine clinical practice in India. It most importantly helped in assessing various kinds of tooth movements achievable with clear aligners. It also helped in getting an opinion on the movements presently not possible with aligners alone. A new orthodontic index was proposed by the College of Diplomates to assess the degree of difficulty of cases submitted for the IBO Phase III clinical examinations. This article is the continuation of Parts I and II of the article, which gave a brief insight into the need and the methodology undertaken to formulate this index. A weightage score grading the degree of difficulty was formulated based on the Dental, Cephalometric, and Miscellaneous components. An Aesthetic component was also developed. Further statistical evaluation was done to formulate a cut-off score required for cases submitted for the Phase III examination. Introduction: Various skeletal and dental factors help in predicting the mandibular third molar eruption, but the reliability of these factors may vary within subjects with different growth patterns. Thus, the present study aims to analyze these parameters for the lower third molar eruption in subjects with different facial growth patterns. Material and Methods: The study was conducted on 120 pre-treatment lateral cephalograms and orthopantomograms of the subjects who were equally divided (based on the SN-GoGn angle) into three groups: normodivergent, hypodivergent, and hyperdivergent. The groups were further subdivided into impacted and erupted subgroups based on mandibular third molar eruption status. Nine radiographic parameters were compared between the impacted and erupted subgroups, using the independent Student's t-test, to check their association with mandibular third molar eruption in different growth patterns. Results: Beta angle was significantly different in the erupted and impacted subgroups in all three groups (with p <.05). The retromolar space and alpha angle was significant in hypodivergent group (p <.01) and the gamma angle was significant in the hyperdivergent group (p <.01). Conclusion: Among all the parameters that were analyzed for the third molar eruption, only the beta angle was significantly related to the third molar eruption in subjects with all three different growth patterns. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the stress along the root surfaces of anterior maxillary dentition during retraction in labial and lingual mechanics with varying level of bone support. Materials and methods: Eight 3D finite element models (FEM) having 340,215 nodes and 211,543 elements were created with normal periodontium and different levels of alveolar bone loss; four with labial brackets and four with lingual brackets. Sliding mechanics were simulated as en masse retraction of the anterior dentition. The equivalent stresses along the roots of six anterior maxillary teeth were measured in all the models. Results: Equivalent stresses in pascals (Pa) generated at the root surfaces of central incisors are always higher in labial technique (right: 4.6013 × 10−2; left: 7.1158 × 10−2) and of canines (right: 10.003 × 10−2; left: 16.789 × 10−2) are always higher in lingual technique. Conclusion: In labial technique, central incisor roots are experiencing maximum stress, which might be the explanation of commonly seen higher incidence of root resorption in them during en masse retraction. In lingual technique, canine roots are experiencing higher stresses as compared to other anterior teeth during en masse retraction. Introduction: Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus count is found to be higher in orthodontic patients and is one of the leading causes of white spot lesion formation. Probiotics are emerging as alternative methods of plaque control. Aims and Objectives: To determine the effects of different types of probiotics on S. mutans and Lactobacillus levels in saliva of orthodontic patients. Materials and Methods: A total of 140 subjects were divided into Control group (Group I) with 20 subjects and study group taking probiotics (Group II) with 120 subjects. Saliva samples were taken at baseline (T 0), after three weeks (T 1), and after six weeks (T 2). The samples were diluted and incubated on specific agar media plates. The colonies observed were expressed in colony forming units per milliliter (CFU/ml) of saliva. Group II was further subdivided into six subgroups based on probiotic intake with 20 subjects in each subgroup. Results: Statistically significant difference was found in salivary microbial counts in all the probiotic groups (p < 0.05). The highest reduction in count of S. mutans (653.00 ± 102.23 CFU/ml to 84.1 ± 30.48 CFU/ml) and Lactobacilli (87.35 ± 15.64 CFU/ml to 14.60 ± 8.28 CFU/ml) was seen in the lozenges group. Retrognathic mandible is the most common feature in growing children with skeletal Class II malocclusion. This does not self-correct with growth. Functional appliances are known to exert beneficial effects to improve this skeletal pattern. Among several removable functional appliances, Twin Block is the most preferred. A range of procedural errors can occur when performing endodontic treatment on posterior teeth. These errors may decrease the success rate in endodontic practice. This study assessed the prevalence of procedural errors and the quality of endodontic treatments in maxillary molars and premolars using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). CBCT scans from two private radiology centers were assessed retrospectively to ensure the same calculated sample size of 327 teeth for each of the four maxillary posterior tooth types (a total of 1,308 endodontically treated teeth). Image sets were evaluated for procedural errors categorized as follows: obturation length (overfilling or underfilling by >2 mm short of the root apex), missed canals, perforations, strip perforations (with extrusion of material into the furcation area), separated instruments in the root canal space, and root fracture. Data were analyzed with SPSS version 20 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA), and frequency data was assessed using the Monte Carlo test at the 0.05 level of significance. The procedural errors most commonly reported in the present study were from most frequent to least frequent: underfilled canals (50.0%), missed canals (27.5%), overfilled canals (12.5%), apical perforations (5.0%), separated instruments (3.1%), and root fractures (1.9%). No strip perforations (with extrusion of material into the furcation area) were seen in the study (0%). Underfilled and missed root canals were the most frequent procedural errors identified in the present study. These findings underline the importance of more consideration of critical working length management during all stages of root canal treatment, greater awareness of root canal anatomy, and the use of imaging and diagnostic devices that enhance the ability to identify and treat root canals both safely and effectively. The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of C-shaped canals in permanent mandibular second molars (SMs) and to determine whether its appearance was associated with the presence of distolingual root (DLR) in permanent mandibular first molars (FMs). Method and materials: Three hundred and eighty patients were qualified for evaluation of their FMs and SMs using cone beam computed tomography. The prevalence, distribution pattern, external root morphology, and the internal root canal anatomy of the examined molars were recorded and analyzed. Furthermore, the association between the root canal configurations of SMs and the appearance of DLR in FMs was also assessed. Results: The prevalence of SMs with C-shaped root canals was 44.7%. The most common root canal configuration type of the one-rooted SMs with C-shaped anatomy was C3 (45.6%), followed by C2 and C1. The frequency of C-shaped canals in SMs was 45.4% in Non-DLR group, 52.8% in unilateral DLR group, and 33.9% in bilateral DLR group, respectively. Moreover, the prevalence of C-shaped root canals in SMs with the presence of bilateral DLRs in FMs was significantly lowered. Conclusion: The association between the presence of DLR in FMs and C-shaped canal configurations in neighboring SMs was surveyed, and the prevalence of C-shaped root canals in SMs with the presence of bilateral DLRs in FMs was found to be significantly lowered. Purpose: Regional odontodysplasia (RO) is a rare dental anomaly affecting primary and/or permanent dentition, and leads to comprehensive treatment need. The purpose of this study was to present a larger consecutive sample with RO, discuss treatment strategies for patients with RO, and review the literature.Materials and Methods: A consecutive, retrospective sample of seven children with RO (6 males, 1 female) including all patients diagnosed with RO in the eastern part of Denmark was conducted over a period of 15 years. The evaluation included gender, localisation and treatment outcome. A review of the literature and cases published within the last 15 years was conducted.Result: Referral age was 2-12 years (mean: 7.3 years). The gender ratio was 1:6 (female:male), and the right:left ratio was 3:4. 71% of the patients had RO in the mandible and 29% in the maxilla. 43% had RO in the permanent dentition, while both primary and permanent dentition were affected in 57%. Typically, RO affected incisors and canines. In some patients, RO also affected more distal tooth types. Treatment included early multiple extractions and subsequent combined orthodontics, surgery and prosthetics. A search on RO cases published within the last 15 years was conducted and included 44 cases. The review showed a male and maxillary preponderance. The most common treatment of RO is extraction.Conclusion: Treatment of RO should take place in interdisciplinary, specialised teams, and individual treatment plans should be designed. Purpose: To verify the prevalence of developmental defects of enamel (DDE) in deciduous teeth and analyse the association with adverse events that occurred during pregnancy and early childhood.Materials and Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 152 children with an average age of 3.57 ± 1.25 years were examined according to the criteria established by the DDE index. A previously validated questionnaire was given to mothers in order to obtain information regarding: calcium and vitamin D deficiency (measured in mothers); gestational diabetes; gestational undernutrition; weight at birth; neonatal hypoxia; and presence of asthma in early childhood. The clinical exam was conducted by a single examiner calibrated for visual exams (Kappa = 0.84), outdoors on patios of schools with children and examiner knee to knee. Pearson's chi-squared test and Fisher's Exact Test (p < 0.05) were used to determine statistically significant associations between the variables in study. The data were then analysed using a binary logistic regression regression.Results: 26.3% of children exhibited DDE. It was possible to verify a statistically significant association between DDE and vitamin D deficiency (p < 0.01), calcium deficiency (p = 0.01), neonatal hypoxia (p = 0.026), and gestational diabetes (p = 0.04). The regression model allowed the conclusion that children who had neonatal hypoxia during childbirth, gestational diabetes or vitamin D deficiency during their gestation were 3.54, 12.47 and 6.40 more likely to exhibit signs of DDE, respectively.Conclusion: The prevalence of DDE was considered high and was associated with vitamin D and calcium deficiency during pregnancy, gestational diabetes, and neonatal hypoxia. Objective: Qualitative developmental defects of enamel (DDEs) are characterized by an intact hypermineralized surface enamel layer and a porous subsurface hypomineralized layer. This structure is similar to natural early caries lesions, which are effectively arrested by resin infiltration, a micro-invasive clinical procedure. An additional reported effect in early enamel caries is recovery of enamel translucency. Due to structural similarities, a similar mechanism is expected in qualitative DDEs. The objective of the present study was to observe quantitative color masking of qualitative DDEs when subjected to resin infiltration. Method and materials: A total of 70 selected enamel defects were subjected to resin infiltration in a nonrandomized study design. Each defect was subjected to photographic imaging using a digital camera both pre- and post-intervention. Each image was assessed using ImageJ digital software (National Institutes of Health) for CIE L*a*b coordinates. Results: There were significant changes observed in L*a*b coordinates of all DDEs, when subjected to resin infiltration. Pre-eruptive intracoronal resorption (PEIR) is a rare condition usually detected incidentally on radiographs. The radiographic appearance resembles dental caries; however, the aetiology is not fully understood. The prognosis of affected teeth is highly variable, and management may involve input from multiple specialties. Whereas large-scale statistical analyses can robustly identify disease-gene relationships, they do not accurately capture genotype-phenotype correlations or disease mechanisms. We use multiple lines of independent evidence to show that different variant types in a single gene, SATB1, cause clinically overlapping but distinct neurodevelopmental disorders. Clinical evaluation of 42 individuals carrying SATB1 variants identified overt genotype-phenotype relationships, associated with different pathophysiological mechanisms, established by functional assays. Missense variants in the CUT1 and CUT2 DNA-binding domains result in stronger chromatin binding, increased transcriptional repression, and a severe phenotype. In contrast, variants predicted to result in haploinsufficiency are associated with a milder clinical presentation. A similarly mild phenotype is observed for individuals with premature protein truncating variants that escape nonsense-mediated decay, which are transcriptionally active but mislocalized in the cell. Our results suggest that in-depth mutation-specific genotype-phenotype studies are essential to capture full disease complexity and to explain phenotypic variability.

Background: Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) is a developmental enamel defect affecting the structure of enamel, esthetic appearance, and the tooth masticatory function. Gene mutations are reported to be relevant to AI. However, the mechanism underlying AI caused by different mutations is still unclear. This study aimed to reveal the molecular pathogenesis in AI families with 2 novel pre-mRNA splicing mutations. Methods: Two Chinese families with AI were recruited. Whole-exome sequencing and Sanger sequencing were performed to identify mutations in candidate genes. Minigene splicing assays were performed to analyze the mutation effects on mRNA splicing alteration. Furthermore, three-dimensional structures of mutant proteins were predicted by AlphaFold2 to evaluate the detrimental effect. Results: The affected enamel in family 1 was thin, rough, and stained, which was diagnosed as hypoplastic-hypomature AI. Genomic analysis revealed a novel splicing mutation (NM_001142.2: c.570 + 1G > A) in the intron 6 of amelogenin (AMELX) gene in family 1, resulting in a partial intron 6 retention effect. The proband in family 2 exhibited a typical hypoplastic AI, and the splicing mutation (NM_031889.2: c.123 + 4 A > G) in the intron 4 of enamelin (ENAM) gene was observed in the proband and her father. This mutation led to exon 4 skipping. The predicted structures showed that there were obvious differences in the mutation proteins compared with wild type, leading to impaired function of mutant proteins. Conclusions: In this study, we identified two new splicing mutations in AMELX and ENAM genes, which cause hypoplastic-hypomature and hypoplastic AI, respectively. Simple Summary: Despite the multidrug nature of anticancer treatment, attempts are still being made to determine the relationship between the duration of chemotherapy, the dose of individual drugs, and the occurrence of dental developmental abnormalities. There are relatively few papers devoted to this issue, and all of them are based on the study groups composed of individuals receiving various treatment regimens. The current study includes a group of acute lymphoblastic leukemia survivors who underwent chemotherapy according to the ALL IC-BFM 2002 protocol. Contrary to the observations of some authors, the results of the current research suggest that the age at the start of chemotherapy is likely to be the strongest risk factor for toxic injury during tooth development. A small study cohort is a major limitation, but an evaluation of similar relationships at larger research centers would be helpful in better understanding the problem. The multidrug nature of anticancer treatment and different treatment protocols used in the studies are likely to be a major limitation in establishing real risk factors determining the occurrence of dental abnormalities. The authors aimed to establish a relationship between the duration and the dose of chemotherapy and the number of tooth adverse effects in the group receiving the same treatment. Of the 40 anticancer therapy recipients who attended the outpatient dental clinic, 7 leukemia survivors receiving the treatment according to the ALL IC-BFM 2002 protocol were selected. The study group consisted of four females and three males aged 92 to 207 months at the time of dental examination and 29 to 91 months at leukemia diagnosis. As a result of the clinical and radiological examination, dental abnormalities such as agenesis, tooth size reduction, root abnormalities, and taurodontia were identified, and the medical records of all survivors were reviewed in terms of drugs administered, their doses, and treatment schedules. No correlation was observed between the treatment duration of an intensive therapy, the entire therapy, and the number of tooth abnormalities. No relationship was also found between the number of dental abnormalities and the cumulative dose of vincristine, L-asparaginase, methotrexate, cyclophosphamide, cytarabine, and 6-mercaptopurine. Objectives: To investigate the detailed ultrastructural patterns of dental abnormalities affected by Axenfeld‐Rieger syndrome (ARS) with a heterozygous microdeletion involving paired‐like homeodomain 2 (PITX2) and explored the underlying molecular mechanisms driving enamel defects. Subjects and methods: Sanger sequencing, genomic quantitative PCR analysis, and chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) were used to screen the disease‐causing mutation in one ARS proband. An exfoliated tooth from an ARS patient was analyzed with scanning electron microscopy and micro–computerized tomography. A stable Pitx2 knockdown cell line was generated to simulate PITX2 haploinsufficiency. Cell proliferation and ameloblast differentiation were analyzed, and the role of the Wnt/β‐catenin pathway in proliferation of ameloblast precursor cells was investigated. Results: An approximately 0.216 Mb novel deletion encompassing PITX2 was identified. The affected tooth displayed a thinner and broken layer of enamel and abnormal enamel biomineralization. PITX2 downregulation inhibited the proliferation and differentiation of inner enamel epithelial cells, and LiCl stifmulation partially reversed the proliferation ability after Pitx2 knockdown. Conclusions: Enamel formation is disturbed in some patients with ARS. Pitx2 knockdown can influence the proliferation and ameloblast differentiation of inner enamel epithelial cells, and PITX2 may regulate cell proliferation via Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway. The use of dental ceramics on anterior teeth is associated with predictable and long-lasting esthetic results. However, treatment on darkened substrates is challenging. Various conservative options, including ceramic veneers, are available to change the shape and color of anterior teeth. The aim of this case report is to describe the esthetic rehabilitation of a darkened central incisor in a maxillary anterior region that had irregular gingival contours, multiple composite resin restorations, and unsatisfactory tooth shapes. Harmony was restored through periodontal recontouring surgery, placement of a lithium disilicate crown (consisting of a veneer cemented to a coping) on the darkened central incisor, and placement of lithium disilicate veneers on the other maxillary anterior teeth. Background: Few studies have compared the outcomes of regenerative endodontic procedures (REPs) and calcium hydroxide apexification focusing on necrotic teeth with dens evaginatus. Aim: To qualitatively and quantitatively compare the treatment outcomes of REPs and calcium hydroxide apexification in teeth with dens evaginatus. Design: Immature permanent necrotic evaginated teeth treated with REPs or calcium hydroxide apexification for a follow‐up period of at least 12 months were included. Tooth success and survival rates were analyzed. Changes in radiographic root length, apical diameter, and radiographic root area (RRA) were quantified. Prognostic factors that might influence RRA were identified via multivariate linear regression analysis. Results: A total of 112 teeth (50 REP cases and 62 apexification cases) with a median follow‐up period of 26.5 months were included. Regenerative endodontic procedures and calcium hydroxide apexification exhibited similar satisfactory success and survival rates (p >.05). Additionally, 88 teeth were quantitatively analyzed. The REP group presented a significantly greater percentage increase in RRA and less decrease in apical diameter than the calcium hydroxide apexification group (p <.05). Teeth treated with REPs and with Stages 7 and 8 of root development showed a better gain in RRA (p <.05). Conclusion: While REP and calcium hydroxide apexification had similar success and survival rates, teeth with REPs showed an increase in RRA, indicating that REP is the preferred choice. The article describes the case of a nine-year-old boy with maternal history of delayed tooth eruption (DTE). It discusses the unexpected spontaneous eruption of lower right first permanent molar (FPM) almost three years following surgical exposure. Also mentioned are the challenge in determining DTE aetiology, the negative effect of delaying FPM extraction, and a longer period of observation as a possible option presented to families of affected children.

Background: Molar‐root incisor malformation (MRIM) is a rare dental anomaly featuring constricted cervical margins and tapered, narrow root and pulp morphology, often associated with severe toothache and infection. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of MRIM in children seen in a specialist paediatric dental unit of a tertiary referral hospital and to describe the characteristics of affected individuals. Design: This study was an audit of children attending from November 2020 to November 2021. Radiographs were used to identify individuals with MRIM, and clinical data were collated. In addition, histology and microcomputed tomography (microCT) imaging were performed on teeth extracted from an affected individual. Results: The prevalence of MRIM was five cases of 1054 children examined (0.47% or 1:210). The permanent first molars were affected in all five children and the primary second molars in two children; all children had medical comorbidities and multiple exposures to general anesthesia before 4 years of age. In addition, histological and microCT analyses displayed numerous microchannels connecting the pulp chamber to the external surface of the tooth at the furcation. Conclusions: Molar‐root incisor malformation is an uncommon dental anomaly affecting paediatric patients with multiple comorbidities and is characterized by porosities extending from the pulp chamber to the external tooth surface, predisposing the risk of bacterial ingress from the oral cavity into the pulp chamber. Aim: The aim of this systematic review is to explore the pathology, diagnosis, treatment, and genetic basis of Primary Failure of Eruption (PFE) in the field of pediatric dentistry and orthodontics. Methods: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed for this review. The databases PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched from 1 July 2013 to 1 July 2023, using keywords "primary failure of tooth eruption" OR "primary failure of eruption" OR "tooth eruption failure" OR "PFE" AND "orthodontics". The study selection process involved screening articles based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: A total of 1151 results were obtained from the database search, with 14 papers meeting the inclusion criteria. The review covers various aspects of PFE, including its clinical features, diagnosis, treatment options, and genetic associations with mutations in the PTH1R gene. Differentiation between PFE and Mechanical Failure of Eruption (MFE) is crucial for accurate treatment planning. Orthodontic and surgical interventions, along with multidisciplinary approaches, have been employed to manage PFE cases. Genetic testing for PTH1R mutations plays a significant role in confirming the diagnosis and guiding treatment decisions, although some cases may not be linked to this mutation. Conclusions: This systematic review provides valuable insights into the diagnosis, treatment, and genetic basis of PFE. Early diagnosis and personalized treatment planning are crucial for successful management. Genetic testing for PTH1R mutations aids in accurate diagnosis and may influence treatment decisions. Background: The aim of this study was to determine whether there is any association between molar incisor hypomineralization and developmental dental anomalies. Methods: Two pediatric dentists evaluated panoramic radiographs of 429 children aged 8–14 years with molar incisor hypomineralization (study group) and 437 children without molar incisor hypomineralization (control group) in terms of developmental dental anomalies. Twelve different developmental dental anomalies were categorized into four types: size (microdontia, macrodontia); position (ectopic eruption of maxillary permanent first molars, infraocclusion of primary molars); shape (fusion, gemination, dilaceration, taurodontism, peg-shaped maxillary lateral incisors); and number (hypodontia, oligodontia, hyperdontia) anomalies. Results: No significant difference was observed in the frequencies of developmental dental anomalies between the study and control groups in total, females, and males (p > 0.05). A statistically significant difference was found between the distribution of developmental size, position, shape, and number anomalies between the study and control groups (p = 0.024). The most common anomaly in both groups was hypodontia (6.3% and 5.9%, respectively). There was a significant difference between the study and control groups in terms of subtypes of shape anomaly in all children and females (p = 0.045 and p = 0.05, respectively). Conclusions: While a significant difference was observed between the distributions of types of developmental dental anomalies between individuals with and without molar incisor hypomineralization, there was no difference in terms of the frequency of developmental dental anomalies. Background: Double teeth are usually the result of an abnormality in the developing tooth germ. Double teeth can occur in either the primary or permanent dentition, with the majority of cases concerning permanent teeth reported in the anterior teeth and less frequently in the molar teeth. Case presentation: This report illustrates five cases of double teeth in molars with pulp and periapical disease, including one case of geminated teeth and four cases of fused teeth. Radiographic findings revealed the presence of extra teeth on the buccal aspect of the molar in five cases, with or without communication between the two root canal systems. Root canal treatment was performed by using CBCT and a dental operating microscope. The treatment outcome was good in all five cases. Conclusion: The diagnosis and treatment of double teeth requires special attention. The root canal system should be carefully explored to obtain a full understanding of the anatomy, allowing it to be fully cleaned and obturated. Proper anatomical structure analysis prior to treatment facilitates the development of an appropriate treatment plan, thereby increasing the likelihood of successful treatment both aesthetically and functionally.
