琉球列島に属する粟国島で観察された鳥類を,1998年以来筆者らが行ってきた現地調査を基に,他の観察例を加えてまとめた｡その結果,170種が確認された｡これを生息状況で見ると,留鳥が22種(13%),夏鳥が7種(4%).冬鳥･旅烏が141種(83%)で,冬鳥･旅烏が圧倒的に多かった。これから,｢粟国島の鳥類目録｣を作成した。また,粟国島における野鳥の方言名の収集を行ったところ,スズメやヒヨドリなどの21種の方言名を収集できた。アジア大陸からの渡り鳥の通過点である本島は,バード･ウオッチャーたちに魅力ある観察場所を提供するが,さらにこの島の特徴的な地形や植物相とともに,エコツーリズムのための資源を提供するほか,環境教育の場としても利用できるであろう｡, Bird species in Aguni Island, the Ryukyu Islands, observed by authors since 1998 and by other persons totaled 170 species. These are classified into the followings: i.e., the residents are 22 species (13%), summer visitors 7 species (4%) and passing birds and winter visitors 141 species (83%). These were listed as a table, "Bird Lists Observed in Aguni Islands". We also tried to collect the dialects of the name of bird species from some residents, obtaining the name of 21 species such as the sparrow and bulbul. We proposed an idea that they can provide this island to bird watchers as an interesting and attractive site to observe the passing birds and winter visitors from the Asian continent. Bird fauna, together with the special land features and flora in this island, will also provide the resources of an eco-tourism and the training fields for nature educations.

沖縄島西海岸の沖に位置する慶良問諸島,久米島,粟国島,伊是名島,伊平屋島における留鳥の鳥類相の特徴を知るため,これらの島の面積と種数との関係を求めた｡得られた回帰直線に基づく種数の期待値と観測値とを比べたところ,渡嘉敷島と久米島での種数は期待値よりも小さかった｡渡嘉敷島での観測値が少ない理由は,観察が十分なされていないことによるほか,森林の樹種の単純さなどによるためと考えられる。逆に,伊是名島と粟国島では,種数の実測値は期待値よりも多かった｡これらの島には,他の島には生息していない種が1-3種見られたが,それらの中でコウライキジPhasianus colchicus karpowi(伊是名島)やシロガシラPycnonotus sinensis(粟国島)など導入・侵入種の存在が大きな役割を果たしていた｡慶良間諸島とそれ以外の島との留鳥相を比較したところ,慶良間諸島ではバンGallinula chloropus indicaなどの沼沢地を生息場所とする種が欠けていた｡これは,慶良間諸島では島の大部分が森林で覆われていて川や池がほとんどないためである｡このことは,環境の多様性が鳥類相の豊富さをもたらしていることを示している｡, In order to know the characteristics of resident bird fauna in five islands from Kerama Islands and in four of Kume, Aguni, Izena and Iheya Islands off the western coast of Okinawa Island, we could obtain a linear relationship between the number of bird species in the islands and the area of these islands. Comparison of the actual number of species with the expected number based on the species-area relationship showed that the numbers of species in Tokashiki Is., Kerama Islands and Kumejima Is, were smaller than the expected one. Smaller number in Tokashiki Is. was thought to be due to the scarce survey frequencies and to a simple flora of forests at this island. On the contrary, the numbers of species in Izena Is. and Aguni Is. were larger than the expected. In these islands the introduced or invaded species, such as the pheasant, Phasianus colchicus karpowi (in Izena Is.) or the light-vented bulbul, Pycnonotus sinensis (in Aguni Is.), increased the actual number of species. Comparison of bird fauna between the islands in Kerama Islands and the other islands showed that bird species inhabiting rivers, ponds and swamps were few in the former. This is because the islands in Kerama have a large area of the forest but few of rivers and swamps, showing that diversified topography and land use result in the diversified bird fauna.

沖縄島北部やんばる地域におけるノネコ（Felis catus）および集落におけるネコの食性と在来種への影響を把握するために，糞分析による食性調査を実施した．その結果，ノネコおよびネコの餌動物は多くの分類群にわたっていた．林道においてノネコは，昆虫，哺乳類，鳥類および爬虫類を主要な餌資源としていることが推察され，集落においては，人工物および昆虫が主な餌資源となっていることが推察された．ノネコの餌動物には多くの在来の希少動物が含まれており，沖縄島固有種で国指定特別天然記念物であるノグチゲラ（Sapheopipo noguchii）をはじめ8種の希少種がノネコの糞より検出された．やんばる地域に生息するノネコおよび集落に生息しているネコは，沖縄島の生態系において陸棲動物のほとんどを捕食できる高次捕食者として位置づけられると考えられた．今後，やんぱる地域の生態系を維持するためには，ノネコの排除が必要であり，さらに供給源としての飼いネコの遺棄を防ぐ県民への啓蒙普及活動が不可欠である．, The food habits of feral cats (Felis catus) roaming through forests and domestic cats in villages in the Yambaru area, northern part of Okinawa Island, Japan, and their impacts on indigenous animals were investigated by analyzing their faeces. The feral cats mainly prey on insects, mammals, birds and reptiles, while the domestic cats mainly eat food provided by humans and insects. Traces of threatened animals, such as the Okinawa Woodpecker (Sapheopipo noguchii) which is listed in the Red Data Book, were also found in the faeces of the feral cats. The feral cats are able to prey on almost any of the terrestrial animals in the ecosystem of Okinawa Island. To protect the wildlife in the Yambaru area from the feral cats we need to exclude feral cats and to appeal to local people not to abandon their pet cats., 論文
