Abstract

We report the design of the beam-transport system (especially the vertical geometry) for a cold-neutron disk-chopper spectrometer AMATERAS at J-PARC. Based on the elliptical shape, which is one of the most effective geometries for a ballistic mirror, the design was optimized to obtain, at the sample position, a neutron beam with high flux without serious degrading in divergence and spacial homogeneity within the boundary conditions required from actual spectrometer construction. The optimum focal point was examined. An ideal elliptical shape was modified to reduce its height without serious loss of transmission. The final result was adapted to the construction requirements of AMATERAS. Although the ideas studied in this paper are considered for the AMATERAS case, they can be useful also to other spectrometers in similar situations.

Abstract

Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) proteins form cation channels characterized by a wide variety of activation triggers. Here, we overview a group of TRP channels that respond to reactive redox species to transduce physiological signals, with a focus on TRPA1 and its role in oxygen physiology. Our systematic evaluation of oxidation sensitivity using cysteine-selective reactive disulphides with different redox potentials reveals that TRPA1 has the highest sensitivity to oxidants/electrophiles among the TRP channels, which enables it to sense O2. Proline hydroxylation by O2-dependent hydroxylases also regulates the O2-sensing function by inhibiting TRPA1 in normoxia; TRPA1 is activated by hypoxia through relief from the inhibition and by hyperoxia through cysteine oxidation that overrides the inhibition. TRPA1 enhances neuronal discharges induced by hyperoxia and hypoxia in the vagus to underlie respiratory adaptation to changes in O2 availability. This importance of TRPA1 in non-carotid body O2 sensors can be extended to the universal significance of redox-sensitive TRP channels in O2 adaptation.

Abstract

The realization of polymer optical waveguides that have a large core size and high refractive-index difference (LCHD) relative refractive=index difference transmission characteristics is presented. A fabrication procedure for the waveguide based on vertical dip coating and reactive ion etching has been studied. To achieve the lower propagation loss, this procedure includes two original techniques, i.e., the lamination of thick polymer films and sidewall flattening. With these techniques, relative refractive=index difference of 5.4% and a 80 [[micro]meter] X 83 [[micro]meter] core polymer waveguide with 1.4-dB/cm propagation loss were achieved at 680 nm. The LCHD polymer waveguides are useful for practical power-transmission devices. Key words: Poly (methyl methacrylate), waveguide, sidewall flattening.

Abstract

Transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 1 (TRPV1)-targeted compounds were synthesized by modifying the structure of SB366791, a pharmaceutically representative TRPV1 antagonist. To avoid amide–iminol tautomerization, structurally supported N-methylated amides (i.e., 3-alkoxy-substitued N-meythylamide derivatives of SB366791) were evaluated using a Ca2+influx assay, in which cells expressed recombinant TRPV1 in the presence of 1.0 μM capsaicin. The antagonistic activities of N-(3-methoxyphenyl)-N-methyl-4-chlorocinnamamide (2) (RLC-TV1004) and N-{3-(3-fluoropropoxy)phenyl}-N-methyl-4-chlorocinnamamide (4) (RLC-TV1006) were found to be approximately three-fold higher (IC50: 1.3 μM and 1.1 μM, respectively) than that of SB366791 (IC50: 3.7 μM). These results will help reinvigorate the potential of SB366791 in medicinal chemistry applications. The 3-methoxy and 3-fluoroalkoxy substituents were used to obtain radioactive [11C]methoxy- or [18F]fluoroalkoxy-incorporated tracers for in vivopositron emission tomography (PET). Using the 11C- or 18F-labeled derivatives, explorative PET imaging trials were performed in rats.

98. The High-Current Sumitomo Superconducting Isochronous Cyclotron (sc230) for Proton Therapy

Abstract

Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. is newly developing a superconducting isochronous cyclotron (SC230) for a new proton therapy system which is compact and ultra-high current beam. The beam energy, the maximum beam current, and the isochronous magnetic field of the new cyclotron are 230 MeV, 1000nA, and 3.9 T respectively. The ultra-high beam enables to deliver the high dose to the whole volume of a moving target within one breath-hold by means of fast line scanning method.A superconducting magnet is composed of two NbTi coils and yoke. NbTi coils are conduction-cooled by four 4 K Gifford-McMahon cryocoolers without liquid helium. The yoke weight is about 65 tons and diameter is 2.8 m, which is the smallest Isochronous cyclotron for this purpose. Inside the cyclotron, two RF cavities are in deep valleys. Extraction elements consist of one electrostatic deflector (ESD) and two types of passive magnetic channel (MC). Around the beam extraction radius, eight harmonic coils are equipped for a precessional extraction method. Simulated extraction efficiency is more than 70%.The superconducting magnet has been manufactured and confirmed to generate 3.9 T in 2018. After the confirmation of the excitation test, we have been measuring a field map on a median plane and manufacturing other components of the cyclotron. The beam test will be performed in 2020.Overview of the development status will be presented.
