Cascade Si LVV Auger electron spectra at the photoexcitation of the Si 1s electron in a SiCl4 molecule have been measured using an electron spectrometer combined with monochromatized undulator radiation. In the instance of the resonant excitation of the Si 1s electron into the vacant molecular orbital a peak with high yield is observed at about 106 eV, an energy considerably higher than the energies of the normal LVV Auger electron. This peak is presumed to originate from the participator decay from the state with two 2p holes and one excited electron into the state with one 2p hole and one valence hole. Following the normal KL23L23 Auger transition, the cascade spectrum shows several peak structures, e.g. 63 eV, 76 eV and 91 eV. The peak at 91 eV is probably assigned to the second step Auger decay into states having a 2p hole together with two valence holes. These findings are similar to experimental results of SiF4. The former two peaks (63 eV and 76 eV) are ascribed to Auger transitions of Si atomic ions produced through molecular ion dissociation after the first step cascade decays, although the peak heights of atomic ions are lower than those of SiF4. The advancement of an effective hydrogen liberation technology from liquid organic hydrogen carriers, particularly cycloalkanes such as cyclohexane and methylcyclohexane, holds significance in realizing a hydrogen-centric society. However, the attainment of homogeneous catalytic acceptorless dehydrogenation characterized by elevated selectivity for thorough aromatization under mild conditions remains unrealized. In this study, a catalyst system, facilitated by a double hydrogen atom transfer processes, has been devised for the catalytic acceptorless dehydrogenation of inert cycloalkanes at ambient temperature under visible light irradiation. [Pt(NCN)MeCN] + (NCN = 1,3-di(2-pyridyl)benzene, MeCN = acetonitrile) forms oligomers in the ground state due to metallophilic interactions, and a Pt-Pt bond is formed with photoexcitation. Ultrafast excited-state dynamics of the [Pt(NCN)MeCN] + dimer in acetonitrile is investigated by femtosecond time-resolved absorption (TA) and picosecond emission spectroscopy. The femtosecond TA signals exhibit 60 cm -1 oscillations arising from the Pt-Pt stretching motion in the S 1 dimer. The excited-state absorption in the 500-700 nm region increases with time constants of 0.3, 1.4, and 9.4 ps, which are assigned to contraction of the Pt-Pt distance, structural change in the S 1 dimer, and S 1 → T 1 intersystem crossing, respectively. The 1.4 ps structural change is attributed to torsional structural relaxation proceeding in the S 1 dimer based on the computation, which indicates that a torsional angle around the Pt-Pt bond in the S 0 dimer is widely distributed around two potential minima, whereas that of the S 1 dimer has much narrower distributions around noticeably different torsional angles.

Living organisms use both chemical and mechanical stimuli to survive in their environment. Substrate-borne vibrations play a significant role in mediating behaviors in animals and inducing physiological responses in plants, leading to the emergence of the discipline of biotremology. Biotremology is experiencing rapid growth both in fundamental research and in applications like pest control, drawing attention from diverse audiences. As parallels with concepts and approaches in chemical ecology emerge, there is a pressing need for a shared standardized vocabulary in the area of overlap for mutual understanding. Trust is a key factor in achieving a good death. However, few studies have focused on factors that help patients with terminal cancer establish trusting relationships with their palliative care doctors. This exploratory qualitative study, conducted in Japan, was designed to identify factors related to terminal cancer patients' trust in their doctors. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 caregivers and grounded theory was the research approach chosen to guide this study. The data revealed seven factors related to the trust to palliative care doctors, including caring attitude , symptom management , courteous and specific explanations , long-term involvement in the patient's care , being faced with inevitable death , good impression of the institution , and referral by a trusted doctor . These factors were categorized into three main themes: [1] palliative care doctors, [2] patients with terminal cancer, and [3] professional reputation. There is potential for improving end-of-life experiences through understanding and implementing interventions to ensure trust identified by these caregivers.

The impact of deep space cosmic rays on food resources is as important as the risks of cosmic rays to the human body. This study demonstrates the potential for neutrons as secondary radiation in deep space spacecraft to cause meat activation and oxidative modification of proteins and lipids. We conducted a series of experiments such as the neutron irradiation experiment, the radioactivation analysis and the biochemical analysis. Neutrons with energies from 1 to 5 MeV with doses from 0.01 Gy to 4 Gy were irradiated by the RIKEN accelerated-driven neutron source (RANS). Radioactive nuclei, 24 Na, 42 K, and 38 Cl, were detected in the neutron-irradiated meat. The modification products of the proteins by oxidative nitration, 6-nitrotryptophan (6NO 2 Trp), and by a lipid peroxidation, 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal (4-HNE), were detected in several proteins with neutron dose dependent. The proteome analysis showed that many oxidative modifications were detected in actin and myosin which are major proteins of myofibrils. Three pollination methods are commonly used in the greenhouse cultivation of tomato. These are pollination using insects, artificial pollination (by manually vibrating flowers), and plant growth regulators. Insect pollination is the preferred natural technique. We propose a new pollination method, using flower classification technology with Artificial Intelligence (AI) administered by drones or robots. To pollinate tomato flowers, drones or robots must recognize and classify flowers that are ready to be pollinated. Therefore, we created an AI image classification system using a machine learning convolutional neural network (CNN). A challenge is to successfully classify flowers while the drone or robot is constantly moving. For example, when the plant is shaking due to wind or vibration caused by the drones or robots. The AI classifier was based on an image analysis algorithm for pollination flower shape. The experiment was performed in a tomato greenhouse and aimed for an accuracy rate of at least 70% for sufficient pollination. The most suitable flower shape was confirmed by the fruiting rate. Tomato fruit with the best shape were formed by this method. The variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) with shallow or constant-depth quantum circuits is one of the most pursued approaches in the noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices with incoherent errors. In this study, the divide-and-conquer (DC) linear scaling technique, which divides the entire system into several fragments, is applied to the VQE algorithm based on the unitary coupled cluster (UCC) method, denoted as DC-qUCC/VQE, to reduce the number of required qubits. The unitarity of the UCC ansatz that enables the evaluation of the total energy as well as various molecular properties as expectation values can be easily implemented on quantum devices because the quantum gates are unitary operators themselves. Based on this feature, the present DC-qUCC/VQE algorithm is designed to conserve the total number of electrons in the entire system using the density matrix evaluated on a quantum computer. Numerical assessments clarified that the energy errors of the DC-qUCC/VQE calculations decrease by using the constraint of the total number of electrons. Furthermore, the DC-qUCC/VQE algorithm could reduce the number of quantum gates and shows the possibility of decreasing incoherent errors.

Distribution and electrophysiological responses of contact chemosensilla were examined in the Aristolochiaceae-feeding butterfly Atrophaneura alcinous . In adult butterflies, tarsal contact chemosensilla of the foreleg were classified into two groups based on length: long- and short-type sensilla. Long-type sensilla were distributed much more widely in females than in males, whereas short-type sensilla were found at the edge of the tarsi in a similar manner in both sexes. Taste responses of the long- and short-type sensilla to methanol extracts of Aristolochia debilis and Citrus spp. were recorded. Aristolochia debilis extracts evoked spikes with different amplitudes, whereas Citrus spp. extracts evoked spikes with a single amplitude in the long-type sensilla. Short-type sensilla did not respond to either extract. Moreover, we recorded responses to different concentrations of sucrose and NaCl. Results suggest that adult butterflies can discriminate the taste of host plant components from other chemicals using long-type sensilla during oviposition and may recognize diets containing sugar and salts during feeding using short-type sensilla. In the larval mouthparts, there were lateral and medial styloconic sensilla on the maxillary galea and epipharyngeal sensillum on the epipharynx. Electrophysiological responses of these sensilla suggest that larvae can discriminate between host plant compounds.
