Dental status was studied in 168 obese teenagers aged from 12 to 17 years. The study revealed high prevalence in this group of teenagers of oral pathology like caries and fluorosis, inflammatory periodontal disease in 75% of children and poor oral hygiene level. One should consider high need for development of treatment-and-prophylactic measures for improvement of dental status in obese teenagers.

Physicians may encounter patients with dental and periodontal diseases in the context of outpatient medical practice. It is important for physicians to be aware of common dental and periodontal conditions and be able to assess for the presence and severity of these diseases. This article reviews common dental and periodontal conditions, their cardinal signs and symptoms, outpatient-setting assessment techniques, as well as common methods of treatment. We investigated the prevalence and risk factors for preoperative dental clearance failure in joint arthroplasty patients. Over a 5-month period, all patients scheduling total joint arthroplasty completed a dental questionnaire. Data collected included demographics, medical and dental history, dental hygiene practices, frequency of dental care, and results of dental clearance. Of the 300 patients, 35 (12%) failed dental clearance. Risk factors included tobacco use, poor flossing habits, history of tooth extraction, age, narcotic use, and lack of a dentist visit within 12 months. Of 189 patients who lacked the 3 least prevalent risk factors (tobacco use, narcotic use, no dental visit within 12 months), 11 (6%) failed dental clearance. Dental screening features of patients having rheumatic diseases are reviewed concerning such factors as examination and oral hygiene sessions frequency, specific rheumatic disease (rheumatoid arthritis, system lupus erythematosus and systemic sclerosis), oral and dental disorders (periodontal disease, dental caries, salivary glands disorders).

Objective: To analyze the dental health of patients with head and neck cancer who received comprehensive dental care after intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) compared with radiation therapy (RT)., Study Design: Historical cohort study., Setting: Veteran Affairs (VA) hospital., Subjects and Methods: In total, 158 patients at a single VA hospital who were treated with RT or IMRT between 2003 and 2011 were identified. A complete dental evaluation was performed prior to radiation treatment, including periodontal probing, tooth profile, cavity check, and mobility. The dental treatment plan was formulated to eliminate current and potential dental disease. The rates of dental extractions, infections, caries, mucositis, xerostomia, and osteoradionecrosis (ORN) were analyzed, and a comparison was made between patients treated with IMRT and those treated with RT., Results: Of the 158 patients, 99 were treated with RT and 59 were treated with IMRT. Compared with those treated with IMRT, significantly more patients treated with RT exhibited xerostomia (46.5% vs 16.9%; P < .001; odds ratio [OR], 0.24; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.11-0.52), mucositis (46.5% vs 16.9%; P < .001; OR, 0.24; 95% CI, 0.11-0.52), and ORN (10.1% vs 0%; P = .014; OR, 0.07; 95% CI, 0.00-1.21). However, significantly more patients treated with IMRT were edentulous by the conclusion of radiation treatment (32.2% vs 11.1%; P = .002; OR, 3.8; 95% CI, 1.65-8.73)., Conclusion: Patients who were treated with IMRT had fewer instances of dental disease, more salivary flow, and fewer requisite posttreatment extractions compared with those treated with RT. The number of posttreatment extractions has been reduced with the advent of IMRT and more so with a complete dental evaluation prior to treatment.

Objectives: To assess the validity and reliability of a Parental Dental Concerns Scale (PDCS) to identify parents unable to access preventive dental care for their children., Methods: Two studies were conducted. In Study One, a purposive convenience sample of 399 Scottish parents answered questions on going to the dentist, family life and demographics. Parents were retested eight weeks later. In Study Two, 574 Scottish parents participating in a preventive oral health programme were posted the same questionnaire. Information on child dental attendance was gained from dental records. Data were analysed using exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory (CFA) factor analysis. Internal consistency and test-retest correlations provided reliability estimates. Validity was assessed with confirmatory factor analysis, correlations and independent t-tests., Results: EFA indicated that the PDCS had a four factor structure, supported by a subsequent CFA. The PDCS and its four subscales had good internal consistency, concurrent validity and test-retest reliability. Further work is required to confirm the scale's predictive validity in discriminating between children and parents who did and did not attend the dental practice., Conclusions: The PDCS is a reliable scale, which demonstrates good construct validity. Issues Addressed: Oral health during pregnancy is important, yet is often neglected by women. A program is currently being developed for midwives in Australia to promote maternal oral health. The aim of this study was to record the views of pregnant women in Australia towards dental care and midwives promoting oral health., Methods: Using convenience sampling, a cross-sectional survey was undertaken of 241 pregnant women attending a metropolitan hospital in South Western Sydney in 2010., Results: Only 10% of women received oral-health promotional material during pregnancy. More than 50% reported dental problems, yet only 17% had discussed this with their midwives and less than half (44.6%) had sought dental treatment. The main barriers to obtaining dental care were: lack of awareness, safety concerns about dental treatment and dental costs. Pregnant women were more likely (P<0.05) to see a dentist if they had received information about oral health (odds ratio (OR) 3.25, 95% CI 1.34-7.90) and had private health insurance (OR 2.47, 95% CI 1.26-4.85). Most women (>90%) were receptive to midwives providing oral-health education, assessments and referrals to affordable dental services., Conclusion: This study has shown that pregnant women are receiving limited dental advice and are concerned about dental costs. It has also confirmed for the first time in Australia that women are very positive about receiving oral-health advice from midwives during their pregnancy. SO WHAT?: Oral-health promotion programs during pregnancy should consider using midwives to increase dental awareness among women and provide pathways to affordable dental services.

This study aims to provide a comparative analysis of the Chronic Dental Disease Scheme (CDSS) and the Allied Health Profession (AHP) program as they related to the greater Enhanced Primary Care Scheme introduced by the Australian Government to manage patients with chronic and complex diseases. A retrospective analysis of data pertaining to Medicare items related to dentistry and the allied health professions were extracted from the Medicare Benefits Schedule database online, and formed the basis of this study. The highest proportion of services was provided in the state of New South Wales. There appears to be synergy in the utilisation of services with jurisdictions either overutilising or underutilising services. Costs to the Enhanced Primary Care Scheme under the CDSS model (fee for service) were up to 40 times more expensive compared with the AHP model (fee per visit). Costs and treatment associated with the CDSS experienced an increase of 13350% during the period 2007-08, coincident with an increase in subsidization. Reconstructive dentistry accounted for the majority of the increase. Gender disparities in dentistry were less distinct when compared with AHPs and were postulated to be due to males presenting with conditions that were more progressive requiring more invasive treatment. A comparative analysis indicates significant differences in costs, nature of treatment and the manner of remuneration between dentistry and the AHPs. A fee for service schedule as evidenced by the CDSS is dependent on the degree of financial incentive as indicated by patterns in utilisation over time. The amount of treatment considered necessary may be influenced by the level of subsidy with treatment that may not reflect disease management. The AHP model, which is based around a fee for visit schedule, is not without its deficiencies but has not experienced significant rises in cost compared with the CDSS.

Objectives: To assess the oral health status and treatment needs of Iruliga tribal community residing at Ramanagara District, Karnataka, India., Methods: The total population of 2605 Iruligas residing at 26 villages of Ramanagara District was included for the study. Data were collected using World Health Organization (WHO) 1997 'Oral Health Assessment Form'. Examination was done under good natural light using a mouth mirror and community periodontal index (CPI) probe., Results: The total study population was 2605, comprising 1545 males and 1060 females in the age group of 1-80 years with the mean age of 30.56 +/- 19.51. The majority of Iruligas (79.8%) used chew sticks as an oral hygiene aid. Subjects with leukoplakia were found to be 3 (0.12). The most commonly seen enamel opacity/hypoplasia was diffuse opacity affecting 930 (35.7%) subjects. A mild form of dental fluorosis affected 1658 (63.65%) subjects. Subjects with bleeding were only 4.22%; subjects with calculus were 57.9%; those with shallow pockets (4-5 mm) were 22.0% and subjects with deep pockets (> or = 6 mm) were 3.67%. The prevalence of dental caries among Iruligas was found to be 7.52%. The mean number of decayed, missing, filled (DMF) permanent teeth per person was 0.55 +/- 0.1. Definite malocclusion, which required elective treatment, was noted in 14.1%. Iruligas with need for referral were found to be 29.94% (n = 780) according to the various treatment needs required for different oral diseases., Conclusion: This study revealed less prevalence of oral diseases among Iruligas, highlighting the role of good oral health practices prevalent among this isolated population.

Unlabelled: There are two well described methods to improving health: an individual risk assessment approach and a whole population approach., Objectives: This study explores the limitations of the individual approach to public health, and the success and limitations of the population approach., Methods: A theoretical approach with examples from general and oral health will be used., Results: However although the population approach can reduce the mean prevalence of a condition within the population it can also increase health disparities. Some groups gain disproportionally more from a population intervention and vulnerable population groups disproportionally less leading to an unjust situation. These disparities are the result of social circumstances., Conclusions: Additional strategies targeted to vulnerable groups are therefore necessary to complement the population approach to reduce such disparities. For over 30 years, the WHO has been advocating an integrated approach in chronic disease prevention. The concept of the common risk factor approach (CRFA) highlighted shared risk factors for chronic conditions including oral diseases has provided the basis for closer integration of oral and general health promotion activities. Although considerable progress has been undoubtedly made in combating the isolation and compartmentalization of oral health, this paper will argue that future action on tackling oral health inequalities requires a reorientation of oral health policy away from a fixation on changing oral health behaviours to instead action on the common social determinants of oral health inequalities. The narrow and restricted interpretation of the CRFA is a serious threat to developing effective action to address oral health inequalities. Based upon the WHO conceptual framework on the social determinants of health inequalities, an overview will be presented of a range of actions that could be implemented to tackle the social gradients in oral health outcomes., (© 2012 John Wiley & Sons A/S.)

The role of public health program planners is to determine the effectiveness of public health programs, what recommendations should be made, what future initiatives should be taken, and what policies should be developed. At a basic level, to choose between competing alternatives, two characteristics of an intervention must be considered; these are its outcome and its cost. Based on cost and outcome, planners must select the option that offers the most advantages. Economic evaluation is commonly adopted by decision makers in the health sector to investigate the effectiveness of public health programs and to help plan future initiatives. Economic evaluation assists decision makers who must weigh the information it provides in the context of many and often competing options. In this way, an economic evaluation is an aid to decision making rather than the decision itself. Economic evaluation is becoming essential for informed decision making, with potential implications for public health policy and practice and for clinical practice too. While economic evaluations are commonly used in decision-making processes about health programs, few examples exist in the oral health literature. In the case of preventive oral health programs, economic analysis is often difficult, largely because it makes demands on epidemiological and demographic data that are hard to meet. This study will address the concepts and tools required to conduct economic evaluations of prevention programs. The term "abnormal oral behavior" is now frequently used for very different entities. In esophageal atresia, oral behavior can be altered by esophageal dysfunction, but many other mechanisms can be involved. In this respect, the main goal is to prevent these abnormal oral behaviors: how can the early consequences of treatment of esophageal atresia on oral behavior be minimized? How can hospital care be improved? Our goal is to restore to the mouth its fundamental role of giving pleasure despite intrusive treatments, to set up early multidisciplinary preventive actions around orality, and to organize a longitudinal follow-up of speech therapy for these children, in order to be able to help them in the different oral and feeding stages., (Copyright © 2012 Elsevier Masson SAS. Premature infants have a shorter prenatal development period and are prone to many serious medical problems during neonatal period. This may impact the development of oral tissues, as manifested by enamel hypoplasia, palatal distortion, malocclusion, or delay in tooth eruption and maturation. Kangaroo mother care (KMC) is a standardized and protocol-based care system for premature infants, based on skin-to-skin contact between the infant and their mother. Kangaroo mother care has been demonstrated to greatly improve the nurturing of premature infants and comparatively reduce the risk factors of oral defects. We hypothesize that KMC also facilitates oral growth and development in premature infants.

The common risk factor approach (CRFA) has been highly influential in integrating oral health into general health improvement strategies. However, dental policy makers and oral health promoters have interpreted the CRFA too narrowly. They have focussed too heavily on the common behavioural risks, rather than on the broader shared social determinants of chronic diseases. A behavioural preventive approach alone will have minimal impact in tackling oral health inequalities and indeed may widen inequalities across the population. Based on recent WHO policy recommendations, this study presents the case for updating the CRFA in accordance with the social determinants agenda. The theoretical basis for a social determinants framework for oral health inequalities is presented, and implications for oral health improvement strategies are highlighted. Future action to address oral health inequalities in middle- and high-income countries requires a radical policy reorientation towards tackling the structural and environmental determinants of chronic diseases. Experience in substantiation, development and implementation of the system of quality of treatment-prevention help control in clinical stomatological centre of the Russian FMBA was described. Indices of stomatological status and quality of stomatological treatment in 35-44 age group in case of traditional organization of quality control in departmental stomatological clinic was given, comparison of the stomatological diseases intensities with the corresponding indices in Moscow and Russia was conducted. Improving dynamic depending upon the volume of stomatological treatment was traced and preferences of fool oral cavity sanation with inclusion of dental prosthetics making were revealed. The system of quality of treatment control based upon organization of consultative expert room was suggested, its efficacy was shown at the analysis of qualitative and quantitative indices of the mentioned above clinical centre work during 2 years in dynamic.

Representative for the whole country study on school stomatology condition was performed in 9 regions of Russia. There were received data about the functioning of school stomatological rooms in 7165 schools including 3230 rural schools in which 1 606 138 children studied from which 33% were primaries. Several problems were disclosed in school dentistry system functioning including absence of unified licensing, manpower shortage, absence of stomatological rooms in new schools, re-equipment of earlier existed stomatological rooms by school administration decision, not allotment of dental hygienist into functioning. Necessity of school dentistry functioning reorganization into the side of stomatological diseases prevention was underlined.

Introduction: Promoting screening for hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, and dental disease, particularly among residents of public housing, is a key strategy for achieving the objectives of Healthy People 2010. This community-based participatory research study tested a resident health advocate (RHA) intervention in public housing to increase use of mobile screening and to assess postscreening follow-up care for people with positive screening results., Methods: During the summers of 2007 and 2008, a mobile health unit screened residents at 4 housing developments for hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes risk, and dental disease. In the first summer, at 2 intervention sites, RHAs used personal contacts and repeated flyers to recruit residents; 2 control sites received standard recruitment, which was to leave flyers with the development manager. In the second summer, the 2 control sites from the previous year became intervention sites. For both summers combined, we calculated the number of people at intervention and control sites who used the van and we examined rates of appointments made and kept for residents who had positive screening test results., Results: Screening rates were higher in the intervention condition compared with the control condition (relative risk [RR], 1.55; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.12-2.15). Approximately 65% of participants screened positive for at least 1 condition. The proportion of participants with screen-positive findings who had follow-up appointments increased from 15% in 2007 to 55% in 2008., Conclusion: The use of RHAs increased participation in health screening among public housing residents and rates of follow-up medical visits for people with positive screening results.

Dental disease is a common problem in dogs and cats. A study of North American pets showed a 20% incidence of calculus and/or gingivitis in dogs of all ages, while 24% and 13% of cats of all ages had calculus and gingivitis, respectively.1 Dental disease in older pets is especially common, and as pets age, the incidence of dental disease increases. One study identified periodontitis in 82% of dogs aged 6 to 8 years and in 96% of dogs aged 12 to 14 years.2 Dietary strategies to promote dental health have been established and can be useful additions to a complete home oral care regimen.

Malformation of teeth can be found in patients with bone diseases, which was induced when the disease occurred during the tooth formation. The tooth malformation shows typical manifestations of the disease, which may demonstrate the occurrence of the bone disease. In this article, dental management of the patients with bone diseases such as X-linked hypophosphatemic rickets, osteogenesis imperfecta, and hypophosphatasia was presented.

The main data on oral health and dental pathologies affecting Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients were reviewed. Oral health declines and dental pathologies increase with progression of AD. Poor oral hygiene, difficulty in wearing dentures, and the inability to self-care, including carrying out oral hygiene procedures are the most probable cause of impaired oral health in AD. Collection of information on oral/dental conditions from AD patients or their caregivers/relatives is often difficult and scientific literature on the topic is sparse . The majority of data on the subject consist in retrospective studies affected to some extent by subjective views of dental professionals involved. Appropriate dental interventions in adult-onset dementia disorders will decrease pain and oral pathology and consequently could contribute to maintain enough oral and nutritional health in these patients. Dental treatment in early stages of the disease are important and should be finalized at producing a stable oral condition. This could improve the quality of life and contribute to decrease worsening of oral situations in the later stages of the disease when dental treatment may be difficult. The problem of awareness of good oral health for keeping quality of life more acceptable in adult-onset dementia disorders is discussed.

According the demographic changes taking place in the world we are experiencing the process of radical aging. It is very essential to evaluate the quality of orthopedic treatment. For this purpose we should identify the prosthesis of different constructions of the patient's mouth cavity. It is very important to evaluate also their availability and validity. The necessity of orthopedic treatment in 50-59 age groups was equal to 54% and in 80-89 age groups this number was increased to 84%. In case of loosing all the teeth only qualitative prosthesis can guarantee normal crunching of the food and avoid the tract disease of stomach-intestine.

For a variety of reasons, residents of long-term care facilities often lack basic dental care, leading to poor nutrition, needless pain, medical complications, and unnecessary tooth loss. The "Healthy People 2010" initiative included a goal to reduce the number of older adults who have had all their natural teeth extracted, and increase the proportion of long-term care residents who use the oral health care system each year. Medication is a primary or contributing cause of oral problems. Although the overall incidence of dental disease is decreasing, around 50% of adults have some signs of periodontal disease; 35% have some root damage. Poor oral health in long-term care facilities has numerous causes and tragic results. Several steps, including calcium and vitamin D supplementation and careful medication monitoring can help prevent tooth loss, combat caries, and decrease periodontal disease.

The paper outlines the requirements for sanitary-and-epidemiological surveillance to prevent dental diseases. The investigations pose tasks to medical prevention centers to solve the problems in tooth prophylaxis, such as organizational-and-methodological, sanitary-and-educational, health-improving, and others. The sanitary-and-hygienic requirements for therapeutic-and-prophylactic dental facilities are defined. A procedure for keeping a management protocol for the prevention of tooth diseases is described.

Although anesthesiologists consistently work in the mouth of patients, they may not have been exposed to a comprehensive education of teeth, surrounding tissues, and intraoral prostheses. Since perioperative dental damage is one of the most common anesthesia-related adverse events and is responsible for the greatest number of malpractice claims against anesthesiologists, several dental considerations are warranted. The likelihood of perioperative dental trauma increases with the vulnerability of a patient's dentition and the presence of associated anesthesia risk factors. Minimizing dental injuries begins with the anesthesiologist's preoperative assessment of the patient's dentition and intraoral tissues. Clear documentation of the patient's preoperative dental condition and notifying the patient of the potential dental damage will diminish costs for any related postoperative dental treatment. Upon discovery of a potentially hazardous dental condition, a consultation with a dentist should be considered before proceeding with the surgical procedure. Exercising cautionary measures during provocative events, such as laryngoscopy and tracheal extubation, can aid in the prevention of dental trauma. In the event of such an injury, several management tactics can promote a swift and reasonable resolution. Establishing an increased awareness of intraoral conditions and the related perioperative risk factors may diminish the incidence of dental damage and financial costs.

This was an observational study in which the management policies and procedures associated with infection control and instrument decontamination were examined in 179 dental surgeries by a team of trained surveyors. Information relating to the management of a wide range of infection control procedures, in particular the decontamination of dental instruments, was collected by interview and by examination of practice documentation. This study found that although the majority of surgeries (70%) claimed to have a management policy on infection control, only 50% of these were documented. For infection control policies, 79% of surgeries had access to the British Dental Association Advice Sheet A12. Infection control policies were claimed to be present in 89% of surgeries, of which 62% were documented. Seventy-seven per cent of staff claimed to have received specific infection control training, but for instrument decontamination this was provided mainly by demonstration (97%) or observed practice (88%). Many dental nurses (74%) and dental practitioners (57%) did not recognise the symbol used to designate a single-use device. Audit of infection control or decontamination activities was undertaken in 11% of surgeries. The majority of surgeries have policies and procedures for the management of infection control in dental practice, but in many instances these are not documented. The training of staff in infection control and its documentation is poorly managed and consideration should be given to development of quality management systems for use in dental practice.

About 2000 years ago, our country already had a record about mouth washing. It was one of the earliest countries that invented teeth brushing and the toothbrush. It mentioned many kinds of effective techniques of teeth protection and health improvment such as swallowing the saliva, knocking the teeth and practising Qigong. About 3000 years ago, our country already had records about dental disease and had established the specialty of stomatology and dentistry in the Tang dynasty. The methods of treating toothache by acupuncture and external medicine, treating caries by arsenic trioxide and using silver paste to fill the teeth, using artificial teeth for restoration, and treating periodontosis by teeth-cleaning techniques all took the lead in the world. Traditional Chinese Medicines are still used today to treat toothache and periodontosis in clinic.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of a community oral health awareness program given to mothers through trained community level workers (Junior Public Health Nurses (JPHNs) and Anganwadi workers (AWWs)., Methods: Oral health education materials were prepared based on the findings of a knowledge survey among community workers and mothers of children (0-6 years) in a selected block panchayat in Kerala. Using this material, classes were held for health workers and through them for the mothers. Post evaluation for both the groups was done using the same questionnaire., Results: The post intervention survey among both the community workers and the mothers showed statistically significant improvement in knowledge regarding oral hygiene habits, importance of milk teeth, causes of dental diseases, prevention of dental diseases, and treatment of certain dental conditions., Conclusion: A community health awareness program has a positive effect on knowledge of community workers and thereby in the mothers. The feasibility of integrating oral health education in the existing primary healthcare activities needs to be explored.

A new combined therapeutic modality is proposed to provide stomatological care for subjects engaged in non-ferrous metal industry in polar regions. Data on its advantages over the traditional approach in terms of efficacy are presented.

A healthy tooth in a healthy gum and healthy mouth is fairly secure. The roots are firmly embedded in bone and the gum firmly encases the tooth, leaving only the resistant enamel exposed to any debris and bacteria that saliva has not flushed away.

This study investigated levels of dental health knowledge and factors associated with adequate dental health knowledge in a group of black adolescents living in rural areas. Using a self-administered questionnaire, data were collected on a convenience sample of 151 black adolescents aged 10 to 18 yrs living in rural South Carolina. The mean percent correct on the dental health knowledge questions was 55.0%. Using 75% as the cutoff for adequate dental health knowledge, only 7.9% of the respondents achieved this level. Two thirds of the younger adolescents (aged 10-12 yrs) were below the median on dental health knowledge. Respondents selected dental health professionals, family, and school as the three main sources of dental health information. Results from univariate logistic regression analyses indicated that being older, having a regular dentist for routine care, and having learned about dental health from dental health professionals, family, mass media, and friends were significantly associated with adequate dental health knowledge. After adjusting for other explanatory factors, adequate dental health knowledge was associated with being older and having learned about dental health from friends. This group of adolescents seems to have limited dental health knowledge with misconceptions concerning periodontal health and caries prevention. This was especially evident in younger adolescents. Incorporation of peer dental health education in school is worthwhile to investigate as a means to enhance the dental health knowledge of these adolescents.

Unlabelled: The long-term dental safety profile of high-dose radioiodine therapy remained elusive despite more than 6 decades of clinical use., Methods: In a cohort study, we investigated the incidence of sialadenitis, xerostomia, caries, and tooth extractions after high-dose radioiodine therapy for differentiated thyroid cancer and explored risk factors by multiple regression models., Results: One hundred seventy-six participants were recruited (median follow-up, 6.6 y; range, 1.1-32.6 y; patient-years: 8,472 before and 1,421 after radioiodine therapy). Scintigraphic salivary gland uptake during radioiodine treatment predicted development of sialadenitis (odds ratio: 1.31 [1.05-1.63], P = 0.015) and xerostomia (odds ratio: 1.58 [1.16-2.16], P = 0.004). The caries risk increased by postradioiodine xerostomia (% increase: 98.8 [26.5-212], P = 0.003). The long-term risk for postradioiodine tooth extractions increased with increasing cumulative radioiodine activities (% increase [per gigabequerel]: 8.14 [1.07, 15.7], P = 0.02)., Conclusion: High-dose radioiodine treatment can impair the long-term dental health, depending on the cumulative radioiodine activity and individual salivary gland radioiodine uptake.

Stomatologic status of 77 children 12 year old suffering from allergic pathology was determined. Results of the study shown that in children with allergy there were high figures of dental caries experience (both frequency and intensity), of dentomaxillary anomalies, of systemic dental enamel hypoplasia, of different oral membrane diseases and of inflammatory changes in parodontal tissues. The conclusion was drown of the necessity of preventive programme development directed to reduction of stomatological morbidity in children with allergic pathology.

The article deals with present-day problems of domestic stomatological science and its management in the light of modern tasks. The main directions, successes and drawbacks of theoretical studies on stomatological problems in our country are considered.

On the grounds of literature and own clinical experience, pathological changes in epilepitic patients have been described. Dental management procedures in these patients have also been presented. The unquestionable importance of prophylaxis, which may markedly minimize the impact of epilepsy on the incidence of mouth diseases, has been emphasised. It has also been stated that epileptic patients should receive specialised and integrated dental treatment.
