In the present work, there are presented the results of experimental studies on the basis of regression analysis and FEM-based modeling of the processes of aluminum alloys preforms and semi-finished products manufacture including such widely known processes as cutting rolled products by shear and thixotropic stamping (stamping of metal during crystallization). It is investigated the influence of technological heredity created by variation of cant angles of end surfaces and mono- and poly-directional pulling-down by shear in cutting rolled blanks on stability of the process of subsequent longitudinal upsetting while producing preforms for bulk stamping. As a result of studying the ways of eliminating such negative consequences of technological heredity and increasing high-strength aluminum alloys technological plasticity, there is revealed the possibility of using phase transitions (from solid to liquid state and back) while manufacturing semifinished products in thixotropic conditions close to superplastic deformation.

The variety of metal forming processes can be arranged according to some essential features such as structure, properties and structure evolution of the metal being deformed, deformation temperature and dynamics of its changing during deformation, interrelation between flow stress, strain and strain rate, temperature and structural parameters etc. These features in the aggregate compose rheological behavior of the metal being deformed and the rheological equation’s database for simulation of metal forming processes in cold, warm, hot and superplastic state. Taking these ideas into account, the authors would like to present some basic elements of these rheological models database i.e. classification of metallic materials as objects of deformation, classification of deformation modes in dependence on temperature regimes, thermal-kinetic map of metal processing and, as a result of this analysis, a set of rheological models related to certain modes of metal forming processes, which can be used as basic elements of computer software systems for simulation of these processes.

There are presented original experimental results of studying rheological behavior of Vitralloy 1 (Zr41Ti14Cu12.5Ni10Be22.5), which shows in the certain strain rate range stable linear viscous (Newtonian) flow. Comparative analysis of these results and the results related to other superplastic alloys as well as to crystallizing metallic melts has been carried out.

Rheological behavior of two groups of superplastic materials is analyzed on the base of mass-transfer mechanics considerations. The first group is distinguished by ultra-fine grains as the basic mass-transfer units and includes FSS alloys, HSR alloys as well as crystallizing meta melts The second group unifies materials which exhibit superplastic and superplastic-like ow on the basis of moving atoms or their groups as mass-transfer units. Inorganic glass-forming systems (non-metallic as well as metallic), polymers and materials which display phase-transformation superplasticity may be included into this group. An analysis of apparent shear viscosity in superplastic flow of this materials as the function of solid-phase volume fracture as well as of strain rate and deformation temperature shows the evidence of rheological similarity among the materials mentioned above. Rheological properties of all these materials vary inside the range between pure viscous and viscoplastic types Thermodynamical analysis of viscous flow of metallic glasses show that the typical mass-transfer unit in supercooled liquid state is a group of atoms limited by two to three co-ordination spneres High-strain-rate superplasticity and very low shear viscosity exhibited by bulk amorphous alloys are considered as the promising features for development of new metal forming technologies.

Journal of space weather and space climate 10, 10 (2020). doi:10.1051/swsc/2020010, This paper presents the results from one of the first observations of ionospheric scintillation taken using the Low-Frequency Array (LOFAR). The observation was of the strong natural radio source Cassiopeia A, taken overnight on 18–19 August 2013, and exhibited moderately strong scattering effects in dynamic spectra of intensity received across an observing bandwidth of 10–80 MHz. Delay-Doppler spectra (the 2-D FFT of the dynamic spectrum) from the first hour of observation showed two discrete parabolic arcs, one with a steep curvature and the other shallow, which can be used to provide estimates of the distance to, and velocity of, the scattering plasma. A cross-correlation analysis of data received by the dense array of stations in the LOFAR “core” reveals two different velocities in the scintillation pattern: a primary velocity of ~20–40 ms$^{−1}$ with a north-west to south-east direction, associated with the steep parabolic arc and a scattering altitude in the F-region or higher, and a secondary velocity of ~110 ms$^{−1}$ with a north-east to south-west direction, associated with the shallow arc and a scattering altitude in the D-region. Geomagnetic activity was low in the mid-latitudes at the time, but a weak sub-storm at high latitudes reached its peak at the start of the observation. An analysis of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and ionosonde data from the time reveals a larger-scale travelling ionospheric disturbance (TID), possibly the result of the high-latitude activity, travelling in the north-west to south-east direction, and, simultaneously, a smaller-scale TID travelling in a north-east to south-west direction, which could be associated with atmospheric gravity wave activity. The LOFAR observation shows scattering from both TIDs, at different altitudes and propagating in different directions. Probability theory provides a uniquely valid set of rules for plausible reasoning. This enables us to apply this mathematical formalism of probability, also known as Bayesian, with greater flexibility to problems of scientific inference. In this thesis, we are concerned with applying this method to the analysis of visibility data from radio interferometers. Any radio interferometry observation can be described using the Radio Interferometry Measurement Equation (RIME). Throughout the thesis, we use the RIME to model the visibilities in performing the probabilistic analysis. We first develop the theory for employing the RIME in performing Bayesian analysis of interferometric data. We then apply this to the problem of super-resolution with radio interferometers by performing model selection successfully between different source structures, all smaller in scale than the size of the point spread function (PSF) of the interferometer, on Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) simulations at a frequency of 1.4 GHz. We also quantify the change in the scale of the sources that can be resolved by WSRT at this frequency, with changing signal-to-noise (SNR) of the data, using simulations. Following this, we apply this method to a 5 GHz European VLBI Network (EVN) observation of the flaring blazar CGRaBS J0809+5341, to ascertain the presence of a jet emanating from its core, taking into account the imperfections in the station gain calibration performed on the data, especially on the longest baselines, prior to our analysis. We find that the extended source model is preferred over the point source model with an odds ratio of 109 : 1. Using the flux-density and shape parameter estimates of this model, we also derive the brightness temperature of the blazar (10¹¹-10¹² K), which confirms the presence of a relativistically boosted jet with an intrinsic brightness temperature lower than the apparent brightness temperature, consistent with the literature. We also develop a Bayesian criterion for super-resolution in the presence of baseline-dependent noise and calibration errors and find that these errors play an important role in determining how close one can get to the theoretical super-resolution limit. We then proceed to include fringe-fitting, the process of solving for the time and frequency dependent phase variations introduced by the interstellar medium and the Earth's atmosphere, in our probabilistic approach. Fringe-fitting is one of the first corrections made to Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) observations, and, by extending our method to include simultaneous fringefitting and source structure estimation, we will be able to perform end-to-end VLBI analysis using our method. To this end, we estimate source amplitude and fringe-fitting phase terms (phase offsets and delays) on 43 GHz Very Long Baseline Array and 230 GHz Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) simulations of point sources. We then perform model selection on a 5 μas extended Gaussian source (one-fourth the size of the PSF) on a synthetic 230 GHz EHT observation. Finally we incorporate turbulent time-varying phase offsets and delays in our model selection and show that the delays can be estimated to within 10-16 per cent error (often better than contemporary software packages) while simultaneously estimating the extended source structure.
