53. $d^*(2380)$ and its partners in a diquark model

Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to explore the possibility of accommodating the $d^*(2380)$ and its flavor SU(3) partners in a diquark model. Proposing that $d^*(2380)$ is composed of three vector diquarks, its mass is calculated by use of an effective Hamiltonian approach and its decay width is estimated by considering the effects of quark tunneling from one diquark to the others and the decays of the subsequent two-baryon bound state. Both the obtained mass and decay width of $d^*(2380)$ are in agreement with the experimental data, with the unexpected narrow decay width being naturally explained by the large tunneling suppression of a quark between a pair of diquarks. The masses and decay widths of the flavor SU(3) partners of $d^*(2380)$ are also predicated within the same diquark scenario., Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure

70. Krylov Subspace Approximation for Local Community Detection in Large Networks

Abstract

Community detection is an important information mining task to uncover modular structures in large networks. For increasingly common large network data sets, global community detection is prohibitively expensive, and attention has shifted to methods that mine local communities, i.e. identifying all latent members of a particular community from a few labeled seed members. To address such semi-supervised mining task, we systematically develop a local spectral subspace-based community detection method, called LOSP. We define a family of local spectral subspaces based on Krylov subspaces, and seek a sparse indicator for the target community via an $\ell_1$ norm minimization over the Krylov subspace. Variants of LOSP depend on type of random walks with different diffusion speeds, type of random walks, dimension of the local spectral subspace and step of diffusions. The effectiveness of the proposed LOSP approach is theoretically analyzed based on Rayleigh quotients, and it is experimentally verified on a wide variety of real-world networks across social, production and biological domains, as well as on an extensive set of synthetic LFR benchmark datasets., Comment: Submitted to ACM Transactions on Knowledge Discovery from Data (under revision)

Abstract

Perforating crease lines has been widely adopted as a practical method for achieving thickness accommodation in designing engineering origami structures. In a previous work, we proposed a perforated crease design with three rows of oblong holes that induces smooth folding behavior of thick origami sheets and improves their mechanical properties. Here we further investigate the effects of this configured crease design on the mechanical behavior and fatigue life of 3D origami tubular structures, including the Bellow, Yoshimura, horizontally-symmetric Kresling, and inclinedly-symmetric Kresling origami tubes. We utilize Rhino/Grasshopper to develop a parametric modeling framework for the studied origami structures based on their respective geometric relationships. An origami model with or without perforated creases can be efficiently established by adjusting input parameters in the modeling framework. Then, finite element analysis is adopted to assess folding behavior and mechanical properties of the structures, and to predict their fatigue life combined with FE-SAFE. The results show that the perforated crease can alleviate the issue of panel interference, resulting in smooth folding behavior of origami structures. Although the mechanical responses are weakened due to perforations, the fatigue life of the structures is significantly enhanced by an order of magnitude. Abstract

The ice crystal icing in aero-engines poses a significant threat to aircraft flight safety, and investigating the correlation between ice crystal size and velocity in icing wind tunnels is essential for correlating ground tests with flight conditions. In this paper, a digital holographic particle tracking velocimetry system is developed and integrated with an icing wind tunnel, and the ice crystal size and velocity are simultaneously measured in experiments at four different wind speeds. The velocity difference between the ice crystal and wind has been experimentally observed, and it increases with both the ice crystal size and wind speed. The normalized velocities of the ice crystals by the wind speeds decrease with size, and the maximum velocity difference in the experiments reaches 28% of the wind speed. Additionally, quantitative correlations between ice crystal size and normalized velocity based on the power function and polynomial model are established. The relationship between the particle Reynolds number of ice crystal and size is also analyzed, resulting in the development of a model based on the power function, and the power index ranges from 1.51 to 1.64. These findings will provide valuable assistance in the calibration and commissioning of the ice crystal simulation system in icing wind tunnels, as well as in exploring the correlation between ground icing tests and flight and in developing corresponding models.
