Abstract Objective To explore the application effect of procedural pathways combined with information management in the construction of nursing staff skills training system. Methods This was a quasi-experimental study with a control group and an experimental group. A total of 300 newly admitted nurses or nurses who required training within three years of admission were selected as the experimental group, and 267 nurses who were trained in the same hospital during the same period in 2020 were selected as the control group. The experimental group received skills training using a system that combines procedural pathways with information management, while the control group received traditional teaching mode. The outcome measures included theoretical score, operation score, nurse competency, patient satisfaction, and nursing-related adverse events. The data were analyzed using t-test, chi-square test, and rank-sum test. This study explored the factors influencing cooperative innovation in environmentally friendly agricultural biotechnology in China. First, we constructed an evolutionary game model comprising the factors of net income of cooperative innovation, net income of independent innovation, market constraints, and government subsidies. Using MATLAB simulation, we assigned different values to the aforementioned variables to explore the evolutionary trend of innovators’ willingness to cooperate. Results showed that when the values of net income of cooperative innovation, net income of independent innovation, market constraints, and government subsidies exceeded the threshold, innovators’ willingness to cooperate was significantly enhanced. Furthermore, the proportion of innovators who cooperated with others gradually increased to 100%; otherwise, it gradually decreased to 0%. Comparing the simulation curve with the real evolution curve of cooperative innovation in agricultural biotechnology in China, we found that the gradual decline in the willingness to cooperate could be due to insufficient subsidies for cooperative innovation, low income from cooperative innovation, weak profitability of innovators, and weak market constraints.

The phenomenon of transforming natural marine space into proliferative capital holds global significance in modern modes of production. Under China’s socialist market economy, the property rights system and resource allocation methods have created a unique approach to the capitalization of marine space. Drawing on concepts related to the capitalization of space and land, this paper develops the idea of the capitalization of marine space. It is a process where the right to use the sea area is transferred by the rights holders through methods such as transfer, lease, or shares and is ultimately put into production as a means of production to realize the creation of capital value and surplus value. Using the mariculture industry on Guanglu Island in Changhai County as a case, this analysis delves into the process and mechanisms of the capitalization of marine space in China, the world’s leading mariculture nation, while considering the material agency of marine space. The research results show that: ① The specific realization process of marine space capitalization in the mariculture industry has gone through three stages: from natural marine space to marine space resources, from marine space resources to marine space assets, and the participation of marine space assets in creating value and surplus value. ② The material agency of marine space determines the feasibility of the capitalization of marine space and is also the decisive subject in shaping the specific practice of capitalization. The survival and profit needs of mariculture fishermen and enterprises drive the realization of the capitalization of marine space. China’s central and local governments participate in realizing the capitalization of marine space with the relevant institutional policies and norms aimed at economic development.

Ethnic minority settlements, as an important medium for the transmission of ethnic cultures, are also a key resource for accelerating the development of ethnic minorities and the regions where they are located. Currently, research on landscape patterns focuses on traditional villages and ancient villages, whereas there is a relative lack of discussion on ethnic minority settlements. This study focuses on the multi-ethnic Zahan Village in Hainan Province, adopting the analysis methods of landscape pattern index and land-use transfer matrix, based on the theoretical framework of landscape ecology, to systematically analyze the spatial and temporal characteristics of the landscape pattern of the village and its patterns between 2007 and 2022, and to qualitatively analyze the influencing factors of its landscape changes from two dimensions, namely, humanities and nature. Research findings: (1) As the dominant landscape type, the proportion of woodland (although decreasing year by year) still exceeds 80%, whereas other land types, such as watersheds and grasslands, are gradually transformed into construction land and arable land, whose increment is significant. (2) During the study period, Throughout the study period, the landscape homogeneity of Zahan Village became better and better, the landscape types tended to be richer, and the spatial heterogeneity of the landscape also increased. (3) The area of woodland landscapes shows a decreasing trend from year to year, whereas construction land and arable land show an overall increasing trend, and the area of watersheds and meadows also decreases slightly. (4) The village landscape is mainly spatially “clustered,” concentrated in the center and southern part of the village, with a few “dots” distributed in the east and northwest, and the overall trend is spreading from the center to the periphery. (5) The evolution of village landscapes is influenced by a combination of human factors, including demographic, economic, and policy factors, as well as natural geographic factors, such as topography, climate change, and precipitation. The study provides theoretical support and practical guidance for the sustainable development of Zahan Village, as well as valuable experience and inspiration for the optimal development of other minority villages.

The stochastic coupled Maccari's system (MS) is a kind of important nonlinear partial differential equations to describe fluid flow, plasma physics, nonlinear optics and so on. In this article, the dynamical behavior and some new exact traveling wave solutions of the system are investigated. By means of complex traveling wave transformation, the system is transformed into a nonlinear ordinary differential equation. The dynamical behavior of the system as well as its perturbation case are illustrated by bifurcation theory. And then, some new stochastic traveling wave solutions of the system are extracted based on the theory of polynomial complete discrimination system. To show the effect of stochastic factor on the solutions, their structures under different Brownian motion amplitudes are compared by several sets of graphs. The results obtained in this paper have supplemented the study of the system, and the technique used to exploit the traveling wave solutions are effective.

IntroductionAt present, the NADC30-like strain has become the prevalent strain of PRRSV in China. Many studies have found that existing commercial vaccines are ineffective or provide only limited protection. No study has investigated the cross-protection of different dosages of commercial MLV vaccines against NADC30-like PRRSV. Therefore, this study assessed the effectiveness of various dosages against a NADC30-like PRRSV infection using commercial PRRSV vaccines, Ingelvac PRRS MLV, which have been widely utilized in China.MethodsIn this study, we immunized piglets with four different dosages of the MLV vaccine and infected piglets within a nasal way with NADC30-like CF PRRSV at 28 days post-vaccination. We observed the status of pigs before and after the challenge of NADC30-like PRRSV CF strain and reflected the protective effect of different dosages of MLV vaccine through multiple assays.ResultsCompared to those piglets immunized with 1 dosage, the piglets immunized with 0.01 dosage had better performance, such as the highest average daily gain before the challenge, lesser lesions and viremia after the challenge, low clinical score, and stable temperature during the study. However, the piglets immunized with 0.01 dosage still showed viremia, viruses were detected in their lungs, tonsils, and inguinal lymph nodes, and pathological lesions occurred in their lung. Immunohistochemistry staining of the lung of vaccinated piglets revealed a similar viral load to that of unvaccinated piglets, suggesting that immunization could not completely remove the virus from the vaccinated piglets’ tissues.DiscussionOur research suggests that the MLV vaccine could provide limited protection against the NADC30-like PRRSV infection, and lowering the dosage to 0.01 may produce better protective efficacy. In the context of identifying the immunological target, comprehending the virulence of the virus in the field, and guaranteeing safety, we might be able to reevaluate vaccination dosages to achieve higher economic value.

BackgroundThe cognitive development of children and adolescents is crucial for their academic success and overall well-being. Physical activity has been linked to improved cognitive performance, but the specific effects of football training on cognitive function in this population remain unclear. This meta-analytic review aimed to comprehensively evaluate the impact of football training on cognitive performance in children and adolescents.MethodsLiterature was searched through PubMed, PsycINFO, SPORTDiscus, Embase, and Web of Science. Eligible studies were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or crossover designs assessing cognitive performance following football training interventions. Outcome measures included attention, inhibitory control, and working memory. Data synthesis and meta-analysis were performed to determine the overall effect sizes.ResultsTwelve studies were included in the meta-analysis, comprising 1,574 children and 94 adolescents. Football training demonstrated moderate, statistically significant effects on attention (Hedges’ g = −0.77, p = 0.01), inhibitory control (Hedges’ g = −0.67, p = 0.02), and working memory (Hedges’ g = −0.44, p = 0.03). The findings suggest that football training positively influences cognitive performance in children and adolescents.ConclusionFootball training holds promise for enhancing cognitive function in children and adolescents, particularly in attention, inhibitory control, and working memory. Theoretical frameworks emphasizing environmental enrichment, cardiovascular fitness, and cognitive component skills help elucidate the underlying mechanisms. Future research should explore how football training compares to other sports and assess whether integrative drills that combine cognitive elements with skill practice offer greater cognitive benefits than skill training alone. These insights support the inclusion of football in educational programs to foster cognitive development.

Scutellarin (SCU), a flavonoid glucuronide derived from Scutellaria barbata and Erigeron breviscapus, exhibits broad pharmacological effects with promising therapeutic potential in treating various chronic diseases. It has demonstrated efficacy in modulating multiple biological pathways, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and vasodilatory mechanisms. These protective roles make SCU a valuable compound in treating chronic diseases such as cerebrovascular diseases, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, and metabolic diseases. Despite its multi-targeted effects, SCU faces challenges such as low bioavailability and limited clinical data, which hinder its widespread therapeutic application. Current research supports its potential to prevent oxidative stress, reduce inflammatory responses, and enhance cell survival in cells and rats. However, more comprehensive studies are required to clarify its molecular mechanisms and to develop strategies that enhance its bioavailability for clinical use. SCU could emerge as a potent therapeutic agent for the treatment of chronic diseases with complex pathophysiological mechanisms. This review examines the current literature on Scutellarin to provide a comprehensive understanding of its pharmacological activity, mechanisms of action, and therapeutic potential in treating chronic diseases.

Cell death constitutes a critical component of the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases. A growing array of non-apoptotic forms of regulated cell death (RCD)—such as necroptosis, ferroptosis, pyroptosis, and cuproptosis—has been identified and is intimately linked to various cardiovascular conditions. These forms of RCD are governed by genetically programmed mechanisms within the cell, with epigenetic modifications being a common and crucial regulatory method. Such modifications include DNA methylation, RNA methylation, histone methylation, histone acetylation, and non-coding RNAs. This review recaps the roles of DNA methylation, RNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNAs in cardiovascular diseases, as well as the mechanisms by which epigenetic modifications regulate key proteins involved in cell death. Furthermore, we systematically catalog the existing epigenetic pharmacological agents targeting novel forms of RCD and their mechanisms of action in cardiovascular diseases. This article aims to underscore the pivotal role of epigenetic modifications in precisely regulating specific pathways of novel RCD in cardiovascular diseases, thus offering potential new therapeutic avenues that may prove more effective and safer than traditional treatments.

In recent years, large language models (LLMs) have seen rapid advancement and adoption, and are increasingly being used in educational contexts. In this perspective article, we explore the open challenge of leveraging LLMs to create personalized learning environments that support the “whole learner” by modeling and adapting to both cognitive and non-cognitive characteristics. We identify three key challenges toward this vision: (1) improving the interpretability of LLMs' representations of whole learners, (2) implementing adaptive technologies that can leverage such representations to provide tailored pedagogical support, and (3) authoring and evaluating LLM-based educational agents. For interpretability, we discuss approaches for explaining LLM behaviors in terms of their internal representations of learners; for adaptation, we examine how LLMs can be used to provide context-aware feedback and scaffold non-cognitive skills through natural language interactions; and for authoring, we highlight the opportunities and challenges involved in using natural language instructions to specify behaviors of educational agents. Addressing these challenges will enable personalized AI tutors that can enhance learning by accounting for each student's unique background, abilities, motivations, and socioemotional needs.

The Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), a zoonotic flavivirus, is Asia’s primary cause of viral encephalitis. JEV induces apoptosis in a variety of cells; however, the precise mechanisms underlying this apoptosis resulting from JEV infection remain to be elucidated. Our previous studies showed that the proapoptosis gene BAX may have a role in JEV proliferation. In this study, we constructed a PK-15 cell line (BAX.KO) with a knockout of the BAX gene using CRISPR/Cas9. The knockout of the BAX gene effectively inhibited the proliferation of JEV, resulting in a 39.9% decrease in viral protein levels, while BAX overexpression produced the opposite effect. We confirmed that JEV induces apoptosis of PK-15 using 4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining and Annexin V-FITC/PI staining. Furthermore, we found that the phosphorylation of P53 and the expression levels of BAX, NOXA, PUMA, and cleaved-caspase-3/9 were significantly upregulated after JEV infection. Moreover, we found that JEV infection not only caused mitochondrial damage, the release of mitochondrial cytochrome C (Cyt C), and the downregulation of the apoptosis-inhibiting protein BCL-2 but also reduced the mitochondrial membrane potential (MOMP) and the accumulation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). These factors collectively encourage the activation of the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway. In contrast, BAX gene knockout significantly reduces the apoptotic changes caused by JEV infection. Treatment with the caspase3 inhibitor attenuated JEV-induced viral proliferation and release, leading to a decrease in viral protein levels of 46% in PK-15 cells and 30% in BAX.KO cells. In conclusion, this study clarified the molecular mechanisms of JEV-induced apoptosis and provided a theoretical basis for revealing the pathogenic mechanisms of JEV infection.

The consumption of chemical fertilizers has increased eight-fold since the 19th century, outstripping crop yields increases and, emphasizing the need for precise nitrogen (N) assessment in crops to optimize fertilization and mitigate environmental impacts. This study developed a model using chlorophyll fluorescence technology to accurately evaluate the N status in maize leaves while addressing the limitations of current labor-intensive and environmentally sensitive methods. Based on a long-term experiment initiated in 2011, maize hybrid Fumin 985 was sampled in 2021 and 2022 under two crop-straw management strategies (SM: no tillage with surface straw mulch, SP: plough tillage with straw incorporation) and six N application rates. Partial least squares regression (PLSR) models were formulated using chlorophyll fluorescence parameters (ChlF) to assess leaf N content (N leaf). The results indicated that a N application rate of 270 kg ha−1 sufficed to meet crop N requirements. Leaf characteristics such as N leaf, total pigment content (TP), and leaf dry weight (DW leaf) changed significantly with increasing N application rates, influencing rapid chlorophyll fluorescence (OJIP) dynamics. Principal component analysis (PCA) reduced ChlF from 35 to 21, and four models were developed, among which, the model using ChlF and TP was more accurate than the model using DW alone. Key ChlF parameters for PLSR model performance included ABS/RC, φ(Eo), ETo/CSm, and δ(Ro)/(1–δ(Ro)). Although non-destructive N leaf detection using chlorophyll fluorescence technology proved feasible, additional leaf characteristics, such as TP, are necessary to improve model accuracy. Considering local field conditions is essential for the application of this technology at a larger scale. Precise evaluation of N status using chlorophyll fluorescence is beneficial for a more efficient N management and sustainable agriculture.

Chlamydia are Gram-negative, obligate intracellular bacterial pathogens that infect eukaryotic cells and reside within a host-derived vacuole known as the inclusion. To facilitate intracellular replication, these bacteria must engage in host-pathogen interactions to obtain nutrients and membranes required for the growth of the inclusion, thereby sustaining prolonged bacterial colonization. Autophagy is a highly conserved process that delivers cytoplasmic substrates to the lysosome for degradation. Pathogens have developed strategies to manipulate and/or exploit autophagy to promote their replication and persistence. This review delineates recent advances in elucidating the interplay between Chlamydia trachomatis infection and autophagy in recent years, emphasizing the intricate strategies employed by both the Chlamydia pathogens and host cells. Gaining a deeper understanding of these interactions could unveil novel strategies for the prevention and treatment of Chlamydia infection.

Abstract Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a prevalent complication of diabetes that poses significant challenges in terms of treatment and management. It is characterized by heightened endothelial apoptosis and impaired angiogenesis. In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of protein kinase Cδ (PKCδ) in regulating endothelial apoptosis in diabetic wounds by promoting cholesterol biosynthesis. The expression of PKCδ was increased in human umbilical vascular endothelial cells (HUVECs) cultivated in high glucose medium and skin tissue isolated from diabetic mice. High glucose-induced HUVECs apoptosis was reduced by PKCδ inhibition with siRNA or rottlerin. RNA-seq identified two enzymes, 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA synthase 1 (HMGCS1) and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR), as the downstream of PKCδ. PKCδ knockdown or inhibition suppressed the expression of HMGCS1 and HMGCR and lowered free cholesterol (FC) levels. Cholesterol restored high glucose-induced apoptosis in siRNA- or rottlerin-treated HUVECs. In vivo use of rosuvastatin calcium, an inhibitor of HMGCR, downregulated free cholesterol levels and accelerated the wound healing process. In conclusion, PKCδ expression in endothelial cells was activated by high glucose, which subsequently upregulates the expression of two enzymes catalyzing cholesterol biosynthesis, HMGCS1 and HMGCR. Enhanced cholesterol biosynthesis raises free cholesterol levels, promotes endothelial apoptosis, and finally delays wound healing.

Hydroxyapatite (HAP), as an inorganic material with the biocompatible and bioactive, widely exists in hard tissues such as teeth and bones of mammals. However, the inherent brittleness of traditional HAP severely limits its clinical applications in load-bearing. HAP ultralong nanofibers with good flexibility can overcome this problem due to their high aspect ratio. In this work, the highly ordered HAP nanofibers are successfully synthesized by the calcium oleate precursor solvothermal method. The effects of ratio of PO43− and CO32− on the microstructure, orientation degree, and properties are researched. The results show that the arrangement of HAP nanofibers first changes from loose state to ordered dense structure, then to ordered loose form, and finally to disordered nanofibers with the increase of the PO43−/CO32− ratio. Meanwhile, the chemical composition, crystallinity, and thermal stability also change because of various PO43−/CO32−. In addition, the formation mechanism of highly ordered HAP nanofibers is explored as well in this work. Besides, the HAP ultralong nanofibers prepared by solvothermal method can be designed into advanced functional materials with highly ordered structures, which is expected to overcome the limitation of its difficult application in the load-bearing field.

Abstract Currently, many real-time semantic segmentation networks aim for heightened accuracy, inevitably leading to increased computational complexity and reduced inference speed. Therefore, striking a balance between accuracy and speed has emerged as a crucial concern in this domain. To address these challenges, this study proposes a dual-branch fusion network with multiscale atrous pyramid pooling aggregate contextual features for real-time semantic segmentation (MAFNet). The first key component, the semantics guide spatial-details module (SGSDM) not only facilitates precise boundary extraction and fine-grained classification, but also provides semantic-based feature representation, thereby enhancing support for spatial analysis and decision boundaries. The second component, the multiscale atrous pyramid pooling module (MSAPPM), is designed by combining dilation convolution with feature pyramid pooling operations at various dilation rates. This design not only expands the receptive field, but also aggregates rich contextual information more effectively. To further improve the fusion of feature information generated by the dual-branch, a bilateral fusion module (BFM) is introduced. This module employs cross-fusion by calculating weights generated by the dual-branch to balance the weight relationship between the dual branches, thereby achieving effective feature information fusion. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed network, experiments are conducted on a single A100 GPU. MAFNet achieves a mean intersection over union (mIoU) of 77.4% at 70.9 FPS on the Cityscapes test dataset and 77.6% mIoU at 192.5 FPS on the CamVid test dataset. The experimental results conclusively demonstrated that MAFNet effectively strikes a balance between accuracy and speed.

Accurate and efficient urban traffic flow prediction can help drivers identify road traffic conditions in real-time, consequently helping them avoid congestion and accidents to a certain extent. However, the existing methods for real-time urban traffic flow prediction focus on improving the model prediction accuracy or efficiency while ignoring the training efficiency, which results in a prediction system that lacks the scalability to integrate real-time traffic flow into the training procedure. To conduct accurate and real-time urban traffic flow prediction while considering the latest historical data and avoiding time-consuming online retraining, herein, we propose a scalable system for Predicting short-term URban traffic flow in real-time based on license Plate recognition data (PURP). First, to ensure prediction accuracy, PURP constructs the spatio-temporal contexts of traffic flow prediction from License Plate Recognition (LPR) data as effective characteristics. Subsequently, to utilize the recent data without retraining the model online, PURP uses the nonparametric method k-Nearest Neighbor (namely KNN) as the prediction framework because the KNN can efficiently identify the top-k most similar spatio-temporal contexts and make predictions based on these contexts without time-consuming model retraining online. The experimental results show that PURP retains strong prediction efficiency as the prediction period increases.

Abstract In 2015, we launched the mesoSPIM initiative, an open-source project for making light-sheet microscopy of large cleared tissues more accessible. Meanwhile, the demand for imaging larger samples at higher speed and resolution has increased, requiring major improvements in the capabilities of such microscopes. Here, we introduce the next-generation mesoSPIM (“Benchtop”) with a significantly increased field of view, improved resolution, higher throughput, more affordable cost, and simpler assembly compared to the original version. We develop an optical method for testing detection objectives that enables us to select objectives optimal for light-sheet imaging with large-sensor cameras. The improved mesoSPIM achieves high spatial resolution (1.5 µm laterally, 3.3 µm axially) across the entire field of view, magnification up to 20×, and supports sample sizes ranging from sub-mm up to several centimeters while being compatible with multiple clearing techniques. The microscope serves a broad range of applications in neuroscience, developmental biology, pathology, and even physics.

Microrchidia CW-type zinc finger 2 (MORC2) is a member of the MORC superfamily of nuclear proteins. Growing evidence has shown that MORC2 not only participates in gene transcription and chromatin remodeling but also plays a key in human disease and tumor development by regulating the expression of downstream oncogenes or tumor suppressors. The present review provides an updated overview of MORC2 in the aspect of cancer hallmark and therapeutic resistance and summarizes its upstream regulators and downstream target genes. This systematic review may provide a favorable theoretical basis for emerging players of MORC2 in tumor development and new insight into the potential clinical application of basic science discoveries in the future.

m6A methylation is the most frequent modification of mRNA in eukaryotes and plays a crucial role in cancer progression by regulating biological functions. Insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding proteins (IGF2BP) are newly identified m6A ‘readers’. They belong to a family of RNA-binding proteins, which bind to the m6A sites on different RNA sequences and stabilize them to promote cancer progression. In this review, we summarize the mechanisms by which different upstream factors regulate IGF2BP in cancer. The current literature analyzed here reveals that the IGF2BP family proteins promote cancer cell proliferation, survival, and chemoresistance, inhibit apoptosis, and are also associated with cancer glycolysis, angiogenesis, and the immune response in the tumor microenvironment. Therefore, with the discovery of their role as ‘readers’ of m6A and the characteristic re-expression of IGF2BPs in cancers, it is important to elucidate their mechanism of action in the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. We also describe in detail the regulatory and interaction network of the IGF2BP family in downstream target RNAs and discuss their potential clinical applications as diagnostic and prognostic markers, as well as recent advances in IGF2BP biology and associated therapeutic value.

Innate immunity is critical for insects to adjust to complicated environments. Studying the insect immune system can aid in identifying novel insecticide targets and provide insights for developing novel pest control strategies. Insects recognize environmental pathogens through pattern recognition receptors, thus activating the innate immune system to eliminate pathogens. The innate immune system of insects primarily comprises cellular immunity and humoral immunity. Toll, immune deficiency, and Janus kinase/signal transducers and activators of transcription are the main signaling pathways regulating insect humoral immunity. Nevertheless, increasing research has revealed that immune signaling activated by microbes also performs non-immune roles while exerting immune roles, and insulin signaling performs a key role in mediating the connection between the immune system and non-immune physiological activities. Therefore, this paper first briefly reviews the main innate immune signaling and insulin signaling of insects, then summarizes the relationship between immune signaling activated by microbes and insect growth and development, reproduction, pesticide resistance, chemical communication, cell turnover, lifespan, sleep, energy generation pathways and their possible underlying mechanisms. Future research directions and methodologies are also proposed, aiming to provide insights into further study on the physiological mechanism linking microbes and insect hosts.

Coaxial rotor helicopters have many advantages and have a wide range of civilian and military applications; however, there is a risk of blade collision between the upper and lower rotor blades, and the challenge still exists in balancing rotor parameters and flight control. In this paper, a blade tip distance measurement method based on coded ultrasonic ranging and phase triggering is proposed to tackle this measurement environment and expand the application of ultrasonic ranging in high-speed dynamic measurement. The time of flight (Tof) of coded ultrasonic ranging is calculated by the amplitude threshold improvement method and cross-correlation method, and the sound velocity is compensated by a proposed multi-factor compensation method. The static distance error of coded ranging with different codes are all within ±0.5 mm in the range of 10–1000 mm. The measurement error characteristics under different trigger phases and different rotational speeds are studied, and the error model is fitted by the back-propagation neural network method. After compensation, the vertical distance measurement errors are within ±2 mm in the range of 100–1000 mm under the condition that the rotational speed of the blade is up to 1020 RPM. It also provides a potential solution for other high-speed measurement problems.

Background: The global incidence of neurological diseases has been on the rise, creating an urgent need for a validated marker. Neurofilament Light Chain (NfL) holds promise as such a marker and has garnered significant attention in the field of neurological diseases over the past decades. Methods: Corresponding articles from 2013 to 2023 were collected from the Web of Science database, and data were analyzed by CiteSpace and VOSviewer software. Results: A total of 1350 articles were collected from 296 countries/regions, involving 7246 research organizations. Since 2013, among the top ten institutions and authors with the highest number of published papers, the most are from the US and the UK. The United States leads in the number of published papers, but England holds a more momentous position, because it has higher IF. Henrik Zetterberg is the most influential scholar in the field. Conclusions: The output of papers mainly relies on researchers from developed countries, and scholars from the United States and England have contributed the largest number of papers. Until now, the importance of NfL in neurological diseases has attracted global attention. In addition, NfL contributes to the potential diagnosis of various neurological disorders and can be used to improve the accuracy of differential diagnosis and prognostic assessment as well as predict the response to treatments. More and more in-depth studies are highly needed in the future.

BackgroundThis systematic review and meta-analysis aim to evaluate the effects of cognitively engaging Physical Activity (PA) interventions on Executive Function (EF) in children and adolescents. It examines how different intervention modalities, durations, frequencies, and session lengths influence these effects.MethodsWe followed the PRISMA guidelines and searched PubMed, SPORTDiscus, Embase, and Web of Science for relevant studies. Studies were included if they were Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) focusing on PA with cognitive elements targeting EF in healthy children and adolescents. Data were extracted and effect sizes computed using Standardized Mean Differences (SMDs).ResultsFrom an initial 1,635 articles, 23 studies with 2,857 participants were included. The overall effect of cognitively engaging PA on EF was significant (SMD = 0.32, 95% CI 0.14–0.51), with notable improvements in inhibitory control (SMD = 0.35) and working memory (SMD = 0.34). High heterogeneity was observed (I2 = 91.1%). Moderator analyses revealed that interventions lasting more than 6 weeks, with sessions over 20 min and conducted more than twice a week, were particularly effective.ConclusionCognitively engaging PA interventions positively impact EF in children and adolescents, particularly in inhibitory control. Effective interventions are characterized by longer duration, higher frequency, and extended session lengths. These findings underscore the importance of integrating cognitive challenges within PA programs to enhance EF, warranting future research and practical applications in educational and developmental settings.

Pasteurella multocida toxin (PMT) is one of the most important virulence factors of Pasteurella multocida type D. Pasteurella multocida infection has caused enormous economic losses in the pig farming industry. Although it is well known that this bacterial infection causes progressive atrophic rhinitis, its effects on other organ tissues in pigs are unclear. In this study, PMT was expressed and purified, and the cytotoxic effects of PMT on four types of swine cells, LLC-PK1, PAM, IPEC, and ST, were investigated. LLC-PK1 exhibited the highest sensitivity to the cytotoxic effects of PMT. Our studies revealed that a PMT concentration of 0.1 μg/kg can lead to weight loss, whereas a PMT concentration of 0.5 μg/kg can lead to death in mice. PMT causes damage to the intestines, kidneys, lungs, livers, and spleens of mice. Furthermore, PMT caused acute death in pigs at treatment concentrations greater than 5 μg/kg; at PMT concentration of 2.5 μg/kg, weight loss occurred until death. PMT mainly caused damage to the hearts, lungs, livers, spleens and kidneys of pigs. The organ coefficient showed that damage to the heart and kidneys was the most severe and caused the renal pelvis and renal pyramid to dissolve and become cavitated. Pathology revealed hemorrhage in the lungs, liver, and spleen, and the kidneys were swollen and vacuolated, which was consistent with the damaged target organs in the mice. In conclusion, these findings demonstrate that PMT is extremely toxic in vitro and in vivo, causing damage to various organs of the body, especially the kidneys and lungs. This study provides a theoretical basis for the in-depth exploration of the cytotoxic effects of PMT on target organs.

Summary: X-ray detection is crucial across various sectors, but traditional techniques face challenges such as inefficient data transmission, redundant sensing, high power consumption, and complexity. The innovative idea of a retinomorphic X-ray detector shows great potential. However, its implementation has been hindered by the absence of active layers capable of both detecting X-rays and serving as memory storage. In response to this critical gap, our study integrates hybrid perovskite with hydrion-conductive organic cations to develop a groundbreaking retinomorphic X-ray detector. This novel device stands at the nexus of technological innovation, utilizing X-ray detection, memory, and preprocessing capabilities within a single hardware platform. The core mechanism underlying this innovation lies in the transport of electrons and holes within the metal halide octahedral frameworks, enabling precise X-ray detection. Concurrently, the hydrion movement through organic cations endows the device with short-term resistive memory, facilitating rapid data processing and retrieval. Notably, our retinomorphic X-ray detector boasts an array of formidable features, including reconfigurable short-term memory, a linear response curve, and an extended retention time. In practical terms, this translates into the efficient capture of motion projections with minimal redundant data, achieving a compression ratio of 18.06% and an impressive recognition accuracy of up to 98.6%. In essence, our prototype represents a paradigm shift in X-ray detection technology. With its transformative capabilities, this retinomorphic hardware is poised to revolutionize the existing X-ray detection landscape.

PurposeKidney transplantation (KT) has the potential to reverse the cardiac changes caused by end-stage renal disease, and it may be inaccurate to analysis the left ventricular function by conventional echocardiography due to afterload. This study aimed to investigate the utility of pressure strain loops (PSLs) in evaluating left ventricular performance in patients underwent KT.MethodsWe enrolled 60 patients with end-stage renal disease who underwent KT between January 2022 and July 2023, and 60 healthy controls with a similar distribution of gender and age to the patients. All participants underwent conventional echocardiography and three-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (3D-STE). Long axis, short axis, and four cavity images were collected and cardiac parameters were measured. The echocardiographic changes of cardiac structure and function of all patients before KT and about 12 months after KT were recorded. Left ventricular myocardial work parameters were acquired by PSLs, including the global work index (GWI), global constructive work (GCW), global wasted work (GWW), global work efficiency (GWE) and global longitudinal strain (GLS). ABSTRACT: The development of large-scale and intensive breeding models has led to increasingly prominent oxidative stress issues in animal husbandry production. Chlorogenic acid (CGA) is an important extract with a variety of biological activities. It is an effective antioxidant drug and shows different antioxidant capacities due to its different chemical structures. Therefore, it is a new research target to determine the proportion of chlorogenic acid isomers with high antioxidant activity to resist the damage caused by oxidative stress. In this experiment, the antioxidant activities of the chlorogenic acid monomer and its compounds were compared by a series of in vitro antioxidant indexes. Based on the above experiments, it was found that LB and LC have superior antioxidant abilities (P < 0.05). Subsequently, 300 healthy 1-day-old Arbor Acres (AA) male broilers with no significant difference in body weight (about 44 g) were randomly selected and randomly divided into 5 groups with 6 replicates in each group and 10 chickens in each replicate. One group was the control group, 1 group was the model group, and the remaining 3 groups were the experimental groups. At 37 d of age, animals in the control group were injected with normal saline, and animals in the other 4 groups were injected with 1 mL/kg 5% hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) through the chest muscle before the supplementation. The control group (control) and the model group (PC) were fed a standard diet. The remaining 3 groups included the CGA group, LB group (CIB), and LC group (CIC). In these groups, 50 g/t chlorogenic acid, LB compound, or LC compound were added to the basal diet, respectively, and the other feeding conditions remained consistent. The addition of the LB complex to the diet could significantly improve the growth performance and antioxidant performance of broilers (P < 0.05), upregulate the expression of Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway-related genes in liver and jejunum (P < 0.05), regulate the disordered intestinal flora, and alleviate the damage caused by oxidative stress. These results suggested for the first time that the LB complex exhibited superior effects in vitro and vivo.

ABSTRACT: Type IV interferon (IFN) has been shown to be a cytokine with antiviral activity in fish and amphibian. But, it has not been cloned and characterized functionally in avian species. In this study, type IV IFN, IFN-υ, and its 2 possible receptors, IFN-υR1 and IL10RB, were identified from an avian species, the mallard (Anas platyrhynchos). Mallard IFN-υ has a 531 bp open reading frame (ORF), encoding 176 amino acids (aa), and has highly conserved features as reported in different species, with an N-terminal signal peptide and a predicted multi-helix structure. The IFN-υR1 and IL10RB contain 528 and 343 aa, respectively, with IFN-υR1 protein containing JAK1 and STAT binding sites, and IL10RB containing TYK2 binding site. These 2 receptor subunits also possess 3 domains, the N-terminal extracellular domain, the transmembrane domain, and the C-terminal intracellular domain. Expression analysis indicated that IFN-υ, IFN-υR1 and IL10RB were widely expressed in examined organs/tissues, with the highest level observed in pancreas, blood, and kidney, respectively. The expression of IFN-υ, IFN-υR1 and IL10RB in liver, spleen or kidney was significantly upregulated after stimulation with polyI:C. Furthermore, recombinant IFN-υ protein induced the expression of ISGs, and the receptor of IFN-υ was verified as IFN-υR1 and IL10RB using a chimeric receptor approach in HEK293 cells. Taken together, these results indicate that IFN-υ is involved in the host innate immune response in mallard.

Different from the direct delivery of chemodynamic agents into tumor tissue for chemodynamic therapy (CDT), this work reports the fabrication of heterojunction sonosensitizers (CD/TiSe2) for the in situ generation of chemodynamic agents by responding to tumor microenvironment (TME), realizing the in situ CDT‐enhanced sono‐immunotherapy. The in situ redox of TiSe2 in acidic TME leads to the formation of TiOxSe2−x containing Se (0), selenate, and Ti3+/Ti4+ redox couple, which can facilitate in situ CDT through a Ti3+‐mediated Fenton‐like reaction and consume overexpressed glutathione (GSH) via a Ti4+‐mediated GSH depletion. Moreover, Se ions generated through the in situ redox process promote the maturation of dendritic cells, consequently activating the adaptive immune responses. In another aspect, the construction of heterojunctions within carbon dots and TiSe2 improves the reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation efficiency of TiSe2 in a cascaded manner, which enhances the sonodynamic activity and amplifies the chemodynamic performance. More importantly, the ROS produced by in situ CDT and sonodynamic therapy efficiently triggers immunogenic cell death through a synergistic therapy based on the elicitation of antitumor immunity with the aid of an immune checkpoint blockade. This work thus provides a distinct paradigm of transition metal selenide‐originated in situ Fenton‐like agent generation for in situ CDT‐enhanced sono‐immunotherapy.

BackgroundThe escalation of global population aging has accentuated the prominence of senile diabetes mellitus (SDM) as a consequential public health concern. Oxidative stress and chronic inflammatory cascades prevalent in individuals with senile diabetes significantly amplify disease progression and complication rates. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) emerges as a pivotal player in enhancing blood sugar homeostasis and retarding complication onset in the clinical management of senile diabetes. Nonetheless, an evident research gap persists regarding the integration of TCM’s renal tonification pharmacological mechanisms with experimental validation within the realm of senile diabetes therapeutics.AimsThe objective of this study was to investigate the mechanisms of action of New Shenqi Pills (SQP) in the treatment of SDM and make an experimental assessment.MethodsNetwork analysis is used to evaluate target pathways related to SQP and SDM. Mitochondrial-related genes were obtained from the MitoCarta3.0 database and intersected with the common target genes of the disease and drugs, then constructing a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network making use of the GeneMANIA database. Representative compounds in the SQP were quantitatively measured using high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) to ensure quality control and quantitative analysis of the compounds. A type 2 diabetes mice (C57BL/6) model was used to investigate the pharmacodynamics of SQP. The glucose lowering efficacy of SQP was assessed through various metrics including body weight and fasting blood glucose (FBG). To elucidate the modulatory effects of SQP on pancreatic beta cell function, we measured oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), insulin histochemical staining and tunel apoptosis detection, then assessed the insulin-mediated phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase A (Akt)/glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) pathway in diabetic mice via Western blotting. Additionally, we observe the structural changes of the nucleus, cytoplasmic granules and mitochondria of pancreatic islet β cells.ResultsIn this investigation, we identified a total of 1876 genes associated with senile diabetes, 278 targets of SQP, and 166 overlapping target genes, primarily enriched in pathways pertinent to oxidative stress response, peptide response, and oxygen level modulation. Moreover, an intersection analysis involving 1,136 human mitochondrial genes and comorbidity targets yielded 15 mitochondria-related therapeutic targets. Quality control assessments and quantitative analyses of SQP revealed the predominant presence of five compounds with elevated concentrations: Catalpol, Cinnamon Aldehyde, Rehmanthin D, Trigonelline, and Paeonol Phenol. Vivo experiments demonstrated notable findings. Relative to the control group, mice in the model group exhibited significant increases in body weight and fasting blood glucose levels, alongside decreased insulin secretion and heightened islet cell apoptosis. Moreover, β-cells nuclear condensation and mitochondrial cristae disappearance were observed, accompanied by reduced expression levels of p-GSK-3β protein in islet cells (p < 0.05 or p < 0.01). Conversely, treatment groups administered SQP and Rg displayed augmented expressions of the aforementioned protein markers (p < 0.05 or p < 0.01), alongside preserved mitochondrial cristae structure in islet β cells.ConclusionOur findings suggest that SQP can ameliorate diabetes by reducing islet cell apoptosis and resist oxidative stress. These insulin-mediated PI3K/AKT/GSK-3β pathway plays an important regulatory role in this process.
