Abstract

Background: Herbal medicine has been used for many years. Medicinal plants are a natural source which has fewer side effects and has an ability to scavenge free radicals. Plants have been used for many centuries to prevent diseases traditionally, because of their pharmacological activities. Carica papaya contains an enzyme called papain which has many pharmaceutical applications and antioxidant activity. Carica papaya contains phytochemicals like flavonoids, alkaloids, sapponents, terpenoids, and amino acids which could be responsible for its medicinal property. The aim of the study is to evaluate the cytotoxic effect of Carica papaya seed and its role on the mRNA expression of IL-6 and TNF-α in human lung cancer cell lines. Abstract

The drive towards the integration of hydrogen in the global primary energy mix to achieve a carbon–neutral and sustainable society requires both minor and major technological modifications in current energy systems. In this study, the viability of green hydrogen as a combustion fuel and its economics have been investigated for an absorption–desorption-based cooling system. Specially designed burners have been retrofitted with the portable ammonia-water-based cooling system (cooling area: 1.4 ft3). Furthermore, the effect of hydrogen flow and the distance from the burner has been investigated and optimized. The system has been compared with both electrical resistive heating using a 12 V DC power supply and propane gas. An increase in hydrogen flow rate leads to high cooling rates. Furthermore, the reduction in the distance between flame and heating surface improves the heat transfer rate. The system running on hydrogen exhibited highest performance compared to both electricity and propane at optimum flow rate and distance. The optimum flow rate and distance was observed to be 29.2l/h and 2 cm respectively. System running on optimum hydrogen conditions consumed 77.37Wh energy with is 9.10% less compared system running on electric resistance heating and 29% less compared to system running on propane. In terms of carbon–neutral economics, 1 kg of hydrogen can potentially replace 3.28 kg of propane (costing around 3.60 to 4.30 USD). Whereas, 8–9 kg of CO2 reduction can be achieved per kg of hydrogen being used. The 3.30 to 4.30 USD/kg may be considered a competitive cost of green hydrogen in comparison to propane as a combustion fuel for the portable refrigeration sector. These results are the first time, highlighting the efficient use of hydrogen in space cooling.

Abstract

This review article extensively explores the influence of NF-κB1 gene polymorphism on a diverse range of health issues. The NF-κB pathway, a crucial controller of immune response, is closely associated with numerous disease mechanisms. The NF-kB1 gene has undergone significant genetic changes, and these changes have shown strong connections with the onset and development of numerous disorders. This article investigates the intricate relationship between mutations in the NF-kB1 gene and a wide range of disorders through a thorough study of the literature. These conditions encompass inflammatory disorders, cancer, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and various other medical ailments. The notable discoveries emphasized within this review underscore the essential role of NF-κB1 gene polymorphism in the development of a range of diseases. Furthermore, these discoveries have important ramifications that could help develop more specialized, successful treatment approaches. To sum up, this work sheds light on the different ways in which NF-kB1 gene variation influences the progression of disorders and highlights the urgent need for more research in this area. Abstract

Parasitic infection is one of the prime causes for morbidity and mortality of ducks in India. Ducks have the habit of wading through the water resources especially paddy fields and feeding on snail which favours occurrence of various parasites. Among the parasites, lice infestation affects growth and productivity of ducks by way of irritation. Lice are well adapted as external parasites and usually are more a nuisance than a threat to their hosts. A nomadic farmer from Mannargudi area of Cauvery delta region of Tamil Nadu, India who had a flock of 1600 ducks reported continuous death of 700 ducks within a period of one month and brought a dead duck to Dept. of Veterinary Pathology for postmortem examination. Examination of entire body of duck prior to necropsy revealed the presence of live lice in the hairs around the junction of beak and head. About 7 lice specimens were collected and brought to Dept. of Veterinary Parasitology for identification. The lice specimens were processed and identified as Anatoecus dentatus based on the presence of ‘tin opener’ shaped effracter in the male genitalia. This is the first report of occurrence of these lice in ducks from Southern India.
