This report aims to investigate the feasibility of using a mechanical vibration test system as a possible in-vitro test unit for bone densitometry. The report reviews some major measurement techniques of bone densitometry and vibration analysis. A mechanical system to measure bone densitometry was then designed and developed to measure the ulna and the tibia. Various vibration tests on human subjects based on mechanical vibration and wave propagation theory were carried out. Analysis of the test results were then performed to obtain a correlation between bone mineral density (BMD). Key measurements for osteoporosis were calibrated against X-ray densitometric measurements taken from the Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) system at the Physiological Laboratory at the National Institute of Education. Comparative studies were also carried out with a dry tibia bone from an unclaimed cadevar.

The main purpose of pressure vessels is to contain fluids under pressure. Safety during operation is of crucial importance since accidents can have serious destructive consequences. It was demonstrated that the common emitter current gain of bipolar transistors could be improved by replacing the emitter metal contact by a highly doped polysilicon layer. A number of works, both theoretical and experimental, investigating this effect, have been published. In all these studies, the analysis was done on the actual emitter structure of the bipolar transistor consisting of a thin (-2000A) heavily doped monocrystalline emitter region contacted by a heavily doped polysilicon layer about 2000A thick. The analysis of such a structure is difficult due to uncertainties in the bulk material properties and a poor understanding of the interface between the polysilicon and the single-crystal silicon layer. These uncertainties are further complicated by the presence of the grain boundaries in the polysilicon. Sputtered Ta-N thin films have been known to be an attractive interlayer between Cu and Si metallization as diffusion barrier. They have many good properties from the diffusion barrier point of view. Robots and mechatronic devices have significant potential to deliver effective therapy to individuals with a movement disability following a neurologic injury such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, or cerebral palsy. For over 25 years, personal assistant robots for severely disabled individuals have been in development. In this report, design and development of a robot for neurorehabilitation is described. We have designed the robot from scratch cost-effectively and safely, which is capable of moving an upper limb in simple predetermined trajectories by directly controlling the position of the patient's hand. Consequently, the robot can produce repeatable movement patterns in the paretic (relating to or suffering from slight or incomplete paralysis) arm of the patients. There is increasing concern over the adverse impact of discarded packaging waste on the limited solid waste disposal capacities all round the world, exerting pressure on available landfill space and endangering the ecological system with groundwater and air pollution. The most desirable solutions to this problem is the minimization of packaging materials required and adoption of materials which are recyclable and/or bio-degradable This project looks at the use of paper, in the form of corrugated board and paperboard, for making container boxes and protective buffers and how their designs can be created and optimized. Compared to polymer foams (such as expanded polystyrene EPS, etc.) commonly used for malung protective buffers needed for cushioning products, paper is an environmentally responsible material because it is reusable, recyclable, bio-degradable and is derived from renewable resources (from wood/trees). It is widely used for malung container boxes, but has been used with only limited success for making protective packaging buffers (compared to polymer foams).

Galactose moieties are known to mediate the hepatocytes adhesion and maintain liver specific function. In this study, the adhesion of asialoglycoprotein receptor onto glass surface attached with galactose-B ligand is studied through molecular simulation. The adhesion force is obtained by differentiating the adhesion energy with respect to the separation distance. By optimizing the ligands for each conformation change, the adhesion force is found to be higher and the receptor is adhered closer to the surface. The strength of adhesion force also increases with the increase in the number of ligands attached.
