Abstract

廃棄物ガラス中のガラス成分や廃棄物成分の局所構造は、その廃棄物ガラスの化学組成によって変化する。本研究では原料ガラスや模擬廃棄物ガラス試料を作製し、軟X線領域のXAFS測定によりホウ素(B),酸素(O)及び廃棄物成分のセリウム(Ce)やセシウム(Cs)等の化学的状態及び局所構造を評価した。化学組成や原料ガラス形態等が異なるガラス試料を対象に、BのK吸収端XANESスペクトルを測定した結果、Na2O濃度が高くなるとB-Oの4配位sp3構造(BO4)の存在比が高まる傾向を確認した。また、OのK吸収端XANESスペクトルを測定した結果、OのK吸収端スペクトルで観察されるプリエッジの高さは、試料中のFe濃度に依存することを確認した。長期化学的耐久性を評価した浸出試験前後のガラス試料表面を対象に、BのK吸収端XANESスペクトルを測定した結果、浸出試験後に試料表面のB-Oの4配位sp3構造(BO4)の存在比が高まる傾向を確認した。また、CeやCsのM吸収端等のXANESスペクトルを測定した結果、表層に存在するCeは浸出試験により酸化され、表層のCsの多くが浸出試験後に失われていることを確認した。また、XAFS測定に供したガラス試料の状態をラマン分光測定で確認した結果、原料ガラス形態や作製方法によって同様な化学組成であってもラマンスペクトルが異なることを確認した。, The local structure of glass-forming elements and waste elements in waste glass varies with its chemical composition. In this study, borosilicate glass frit and simulated waste glass samples were prepared and the local structure and chemical state regarding boron (B), oxygen (O), and waste elements of cerium (Ce), cesium (Cs) were estimated by using XAFS measurement in soft X-ray region. Following results were obtained by XAFS measurements of prepared glass frit and simulated waste glass samples: (1) The existence ratio of four coordinate sp3 structure (BO4) tends to increase with increasing Na2O content in glass samples. (2) The height of a pre-edge which appears by K-edge XANES spectrum of O is so high that the Fe content in glass samples. Following results were obtained by XAFS measurements of simulated waste glass samples after immersion test to investigate long chemical stability. (1) The existence ratio of four coordinate sp3 structure (BO4) increases by immersion test. (2) Ce which exists in the surface layer is oxidized by immersion test, and much of Cs in surface layer is lost after leach testing. 71. Helicobacter pylori induces IL-1β protein through the inflammasome activation in differentiated macrophagic cells

Abstract

More than 50% of people in the world are infected with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), which induces various gastric diseases. Especially, epidemiological studies have shown that H. pylori infection is a major risk factor for gastric cancer. It has been reported that the levels of interleukin (IL)-1β are upregulated in gastric tissues of patients with H. pylori infection. In this study, we investigated the induction mechanism of IL-1β during H. pylori infection. We found that IL-1βmRNA and protein were induced in phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA)-differentiated THP-1 cells after H. pylori infection. This IL-1β production was inhibited by a caspase-1 inhibitor and a ROS inhibitor. Furthermore, K+ efflux and Ca2+ signaling were also involved in this process. These data suggest that NOD-like receptor (NLR) family, pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) and its complex, known as NLRP3 inflammasome, are involved in IL-1β production during H. pylori infection because it is reported that NLRP3 inflammasome is activated by ROS, K+ efflux and/or Ca2+ signaling. These findings may provide therapeutic strategy for the control of gastric cancer in H. pylori-infected patients.

Supplemental materials are available on the publisher's website., Host innate recognition triggers key immune responses for viral elimination. The sensing mechanism of hepatitis B virus (HBV), a DNA virus, and the subsequent downstream signaling events remain to be fully clarified. Here we found that type III but not type I interferons are predominantly induced in human primary hepatocytes in response to HBV infection, through retinoic acid-inducible gene-I (RIG-I)-mediated sensing of the 5'-ε region of HBV pregenomic RNA. In addition, RIG-I could also counteract the interaction of HBV polymerase (P protein) with the 5'-ε region in an RNA-binding dependent manner, which consistently suppressed viral replication. Liposome-mediated delivery and vector-based expression of this ε region-derived RNA in liver abolished the HBV replication in human hepatocyte-chimeric mice. These findings identify an innate recognition mechanism by which RIG-I dually functions as an HBV sensor activating innate signaling and to counteract viral polymerase in human hepatocytes.

Abstract

Objective and Method: Adult T‐cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL) is an aggressive peripheral T‐cell lymphoma with poor prognosis. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 312 patients with aggressive ATL and analyzed the effect of chemotherapy dose intensity on prognosis in clinical practice. Result: As first‐line therapy, 62 patients underwent best supportive care (BSC) or single‐agent chemotherapy, and 235 underwent intensive chemotherapy. The median survival time (MST) was 0.58 years in the 312 total patients, and 0.13 years and 0.75 years in the BSC/single‐agent chemotherapy group and intensive chemotherapy group, respectively. The median average relative dose intensity (ARDI) of patients who received intensive chemotherapy was 60%. We divided patients into 3 groups according to ARDI. Those in the top tertile of ARDI (ARDI ≥ 75%, n = 82) had better overall survival compared with those in the intermediate tertile (45% ≤ ARDI < 75%, n = 79) (P <.0001), with MSTs of 4.69 and 0.75 years, respectively. The occurrence of organ dysfunction and infectious complications was comparable between the two ARDI groups. Conclusion: Higher ARDI improves prognosis in patients with aggressive ATL in clinical practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC) is a hereditary cardiomyopathy and is associated with high morbidity and mortality. However, the role and significance of school screening for LVNC have not been fully elucidated. In this multicenter, retrospective cohort study, a total of 105 children with LVNC were included from 2000 to 2017. At the initial presentation, 44 patients (41.9%) were diagnosed by school screening. One (1.0%) patient underwent heart transplantation and four (3.8%) patients died during the study. Electrocardiogram data showed a high prevalence of fragmented QRS (33.4%) and J wave (15.7%). Treatments were needed in eight (18.2%) patients who were detected by school screening. The multivariable proportional hazards model showed T-wave abnormality on electrocardiogram in first graders was independent risk factors for major adverse cardiac events (odds ratio 4.94, p value = 0.0007). Moreover, dilation of the left atrium on chest X-ray and low ejection fraction on echocardiogram at the initial treatment were independent risk factors for treatment (odds ratio 1.7 × 107 and 22.3, p = 0.0362 and 0.0028, respectively). This study is the first report focusing on school screening in a large pediatric cohort with LVNC. With the use of abnormalities in electrocardiogram, school screening may be a good detector of and predictor for LVNC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Crystalline SiO2 clusters of nearly square shape were fabricated from amorphous silicon deposited on a clean Si(001) surface, where the deposited silicon was oxidized in the presence of atomic hydrogen and annealed in an O2 atmosphere. The side of these clusters was aligned along the [110] and [110] azimuths of the Si(001) substrate. The crystallinity of the clusters was verified by grazing incidence x-ray diffraction and low-energy electron diffraction. The crystal structure of SiO2 clusters was estimated to be β-tridymite, whose [1010] and [0001] axes were parallel to the <110> axes of the substrate Si(001). Abstract

We synthesized micrometer-sized three-dimensional superlattices consisting of gold (Au) nanocrystals modified with three types of water-soluble thiolates in different dimensions: mercaptosuccinic acid (MSA), N-(2-mercaptopropionyl)-glysine (MPG), and glutathione in its reduced form (GTR). The nanoparticles were assembled at an air/water interface by decreasing the repulsive interactions between the surface modifiers. This was accomplished by adjusting acid concentration. Using x ray and transmission electron diffractometry, MSA- and MPG-modified Au nanoparticle superlattices were identified as hcp single-crystal structures, while the GTR-modified nanoparticle superlattices were determined to be a fcc single-crystal structure. Optical absorption studies show that the surface plasmon peaks redshifted as the nanoparticle density of the assemblages increased and the peak widths decreased when the nanoparticles formed lattice arrangements. In contrast, optical absorption studies of randomly assembled nanoparticles demonstrated increased peak widths as nanoparticle density increased. To explain these observed characteristic features in the surface plasmons, we introduced a qualitative model for the electronic polarizability of these superlattices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Crystalline Si[O.sub.2] clusters of square shape are prepared from amorphous silicon deposited on a clean Si(001) surface, where the deposited silicon is oxidized in the presence of atomic hydrogen and annealed in an [O.sub.2] atmosphere. The studies have shown that the shape, the size, and the number density of the clusters are different from those of the clusters made from the amorphous silicon.

Small gold clusters (< 1 nm), protected by monolayers of glutathione, N-(2-mercaptopropionyl)glycine, or mercaptosuccinic acid, are prepared by reducing the corresponding Au(I)-thiolate polymers and are fractioned by size using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE). The observation implies that deformation of the underlying gold cores is induced by interligand interactions.

Abstract

There has been no indicator that allows an early quantitative evaluation of the severity of a mamushi snake (We enrolled patients who presented with a mamushi bite and visited our outpatient clinic. Severe cases were collected from published works. Creatinine kinase levels and white blood cell counts of non-severe and severe cases were compared and analyzed.There was a lag time of 10 h before the creatinine kinase level began to rise. The speed of the increase was higher in severe cases than in non-severe cases, and severe cases were recognized as those showing speeds of above 250 IU/L/h. White blood cell counts increased earlier than creatinine kinase levels without any lag time. Severe cases were recognized as those with the counts of over 1,000 × (h) + 6,000 [/μL] before 5 h and 300 × (h) + 10,000 [/μL] after 5 h.We herein present the creatinine kinase level and white blood cell count trends and demonstrate preliminary cut-off equations. The trends for both parameters serve as quantitative indicators of the severity of a mamushi bite until a large scale case-control study is achieved.
