El estudio tuvo por objetivo describir y clasificar los trabajos de titulación desarrollados entre los años 2009 al 2019 de la carrera de Pedagogía en Educación Física de una universidad pública no estatal del sur de Chile. Se utilizó un enfoque cuantitativo, utilizando estadística descriptiva para el análisis de datos. Se analizó un total de 212 tesis, para la clasificación se elaboró una propuesta que estableció 3 áreas temáticas, cuyos resultados exponen que la mayor cantidad de trabajos de titulación se encuentran en el área pedagógica, seguida por el área disciplinar y finalmente el área integral. Se concluye que estudios descriptivos en torno al análisis de tesis en un periodo de tiempo determinado permiten conocer y reorientar los procesos de formación inicial docente en Educación Física en torno a las demandas para una formación de calidad en relación con la malla curricular y normas institucionales establecidas.

Ni0.5Co0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticulate powders were synthesized using coprecipitation and sol-gel methods. The crystalline structure of the nanocompounds was determined through X-ray diffraction analysis. The chemical composition of the synthesized nanopowders was analyzed using infrared spectroscopy measurements. The size, morphology, and aggregation of the nanoparticles were determined from electron microscopy images. The magnetic properties of the nanocompounds were studied through magnetization measurements as a function of temperature and applied magnetic field. The synthesized powders consist of aggregates of nanoparticles with mean particle sizes of 24 nm and 43 nm, with those synthesized using the coprecipitation method being smaller. The compounds exhibited a single crystalline phase corresponding to the cubic spinel structure, with a unit cell parameter of approximately 8.35 Å and an inversion parameter with values of 0.94 and 0.95. The synthesized Ni-Co mixed ferrites presented an ordered magnetic behavior below 320 K, with the nanoparticles being in the blocked magnetic regime.

Abstract Background Achieving and maintaining a low-risk profile is associated with favorable outcome in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The effects of treatment on risk profile are variable among patients. Objective To Identify variables that might predict the response to treatment with phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (PDE-5i) in PAH. Methods We carried out a cohort analysis of the Spanish PAH registry in 830 patients diagnosed with PAH that started PDE5i treatment and had > 1 year follow-up. 644 patients started PDE-5i either in mono- or add-on therapy and 186 started combined treatment with PDE-5i and endothelin receptor antagonist (ERA). Responders were considered when at 1 year they: (1) were alive; (2) did not present clinical worsening; and (3) improved European Society of Cardiology/European Respiratory Society (ESC/ERS) risk score or remained in low-risk. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used to analyze variables associated with a favorable response. Results Two hundred and ten patients (33%) starting PDE-5i alone were classified as responders, irrespective of whether it was mono- or add-on therapy. In addition to known predictors of PAH outcome (low-risk at baseline, younger age), male sex and diagnosis of portopulmonary hypertension (PoPH) or HIV-PAH were independent predictors of favorable response to PDE-5i. Diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLco) ≤ 40% of predicted was associated with an unfavorable response. When PDE-5i were used in upfront combination, 58% of patients were responders. In this group, diagnosis of idiopathic PAH (IPAH) was an independent predictor of favorable response, whereas connective tissue disease-PAH was associated with an unfavorable response. Conclusion Male sex and diagnosis of PoPH or HIV-PAH are predictors of favorable effect of PDE-5i on risk profile when used as mono- or add-on therapy. Patients with IPAH respond more favorably to PDE-5i when used in upfront combination. These results identify patient profiles that may respond favorably to PDE-5i in monotherapy and those who might benefit from alternative treatment strategies.

Salinity is a major constraint limiting the yield of tomatoes. However, grafting strategies may help to overcome the salt toxicity of this important horticultural species if appropriate rootstocks are identified. The present study aimed to test a new rootstock, JUPAFORT1, obtained by crossing the glycophyte Solanum lycopersicum (cv. Poncho Negro) with the halophyte wild-related species Solanum chilense to improve the salinity tolerance of the Chilean tomato landrace Old Limachino Tomato (OLT). Intact OLT plants were exposed to 0, 80, or 160 mM of NaCl for 21 days at the vegetative stage and compared with self-grafted (L/L) and Limachino plants grafted on JUPAFORT1 rootstock (L/R) under a completely randomized design. JUPAFORT1 increased OLT scion vigor in the absence of salt but did not significantly increase fresh weight under stress conditions. However, JUPAFORT1 confers to the scion an anisohydric behavior contrasting with the isohydric behavior of L and L/L plants as indicated by measurements of stomatal conductance; L/R plants were able to maintain their metabolic status despite a slight decrease in the leaf’s relative water content. JUPAFORT1 rootstock also enabled the maintenance of photosynthetic pigment concentrations in the scion in contrast to L and L/L plants, which exhibited a decrease in photosynthetic pigments under stress conditions. L/R plants encountered oxidative stress at the highest stress intensity (160 mM of NaCl) only, while L and L/L plants suffered from oxidative damage at a lower dose (80 mM of NaCl). L/R plants behaved as includer plants and did not sequester Na+ in the root system, in contrast to L and L/L, which behaved as excluder plants retaining Na+ in the root system to avoid its translocation to the shoots. The expression of genes coding for ion transporters (HKT1.1, HKT1.2, LKT1, SKOR, SOS2, and SOS3) in the root system was not modified by salinity in L/R. In contrast, their expression varied in response to salinity in L and L/L. Overall, L/R plants exhibited higher physiological stability than L/L or L plants in response to an increasing NaCl dose and did not require additional energy investment to trigger an adaptative response to salinity. This suggests that the constitutive salinity tolerance of the halophyte S. chilense was maintained in the interspecific rootstock. JUPAFORT1 issued from S. lycopersicum x S. chilense may thus improve salt-stress resilience in OLT tomatoes. Additional studies are required to identify the molecular components involved in the root-to-shoot signaling pathway in this promising material.

Antimicrobial resistance has been stated to be a global health problem. In Chile, the use of antibiotics should be declared by medical prescription, but it is unknown what happens to the drugs once the treatment ends. Among the possibilities for their disposal are the trash or the drain; regardless of which scenario arises, antibiotics could accumulate in the environment, stimulating the emergence of antimicrobial resistance mechanisms and their transfer between microorganisms. Unfortunately, sometimes wastewater ends up in bodies of water, due to the dragging of elements by rain, or by the presence of illegal water discharges. In this work, shotgun metagenomics was used to elucidate the functional and microbial composition of biohazard elements in the bay of Puerto Varas City, Chile. As expected, a high diversity of microorganisms was found, including bacterial elements described as human or animal pathogens. Also, a diverse repertory of antimicrobial resistant genes (ARGs) was detected, which confers mainly resistance to macrolides, beta-lactams, and tetracyclines, consistent with the families of antibiotics most used in Chile. Similar ARGs were identified in DNA mobile elements. In addition, we tested the antimicrobial susceptibility in 14 bacterial strains isolated from Llanquihue Lake. This is the first report of the presence of genomic elements that could constitute a health problem, considering the importance of the interconnection between environmental, animal, and human health, a concept known as One Health.

Epitranscriptomics is a field that delves into post-transcriptional changes. Among these modifications, the conversion of adenosine to inosine, traduced as guanosine (A>I(G)), is one of the known RNA-editing mechanisms, catalyzed by ADARs. This type of RNA editing is the most common type of editing in mammals and contributes to biological diversity. Disruption in the A>I(G) RNA-editing balance has been linked to diseases, including several types of cancer. Drug resistance in patients with cancer represents a significant public health concern, contributing to increased mortality rates resulting from therapy non-responsiveness and disease progression, representing the greatest challenge for researchers in this field. The A>I(G) RNA editing is involved in several mechanisms over the immunotherapy and genotoxic drug response and drug resistance. This review investigates the relationship between ADAR1 and specific A>I(G) RNA-edited sites, focusing particularly on breast cancer, and the impact of these sites on DNA damage repair and the immune response over anti-cancer therapy. We address the underlying mechanisms, bioinformatics, and in vitro strategies for the identification and validation of A>I(G) RNA-edited sites. We gathered databases related to A>I(G) RNA editing and cancer and discussed the potential clinical and research implications of understanding A>I(G) RNA-editing patterns. Understanding the intricate role of ADAR1-mediated A>I(G) RNA editing in breast cancer holds significant promise for the development of personalized treatment approaches tailored to individual patients’ A>I(G) RNA-editing profiles.

Disease severity and drought due to climate change present significant challenges to orchard productivity. This study examines the effects of spring inoculation with Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae (Pss) on sweet cherry plants, cvs. Bing and Santina with varying defense responses, assessing plant growth, physiological variables (water potential, gas exchange, and plant hydraulic conductance), and the levels of abscisic acid (ABA) and salicylic acid (SA) under two summer irrigation levels. Pss inoculation elicited a more pronounced response in ‘Santina’ compared to ‘Bing’ at 14 days post-inoculation (dpi), and those plants inoculated with Pss exhibited a slower leaf growth and reduced transpiration compared to control plants during 60 dpi. During differential irrigations, leaf area was reduced 14% and 44% in Pss inoculated plants of ‘Bing’ and ‘Santina’ respectively, under well-watered (WW) conditions, without changes in plant water status or gas exchange. Conversely, water-deficit (WD) conditions led to gas exchange limitations and a 43% decrease in plant biomass compared to that under WW conditions, with no differences between inoculation treatments. ABA levels were lower under WW than under WD at 90 dpi, while SA levels were significantly higher in Pss-inoculated plants under WW conditions. These findings underscore the influence on plant growth during summer in sweet cherry cultivars that showed a differential response to Pss inoculations and how the relationship between ABA and SA changes in plant drought level responses.

The molecular connections between homeostatic systems that maintain both genome integrity and proteostasis are poorly understood. Here we identify the selective activation of the unfolded protein response transducer IRE1α under genotoxic stress to modulate repair programs and sustain cell survival. DNA damage engages IRE1α signaling in the absence of an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress signature, leading to the exclusive activation of regulated IRE1α-dependent decay (RIDD) without activating its canonical output mediated by the transcription factor XBP1. IRE1α endoribonuclease activity controls the stability of mRNAs involved in the DNA damage response, impacting DNA repair, cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. The activation of the c-Abl kinase by DNA damage triggers the oligomerization of IRE1α to catalyze RIDD. The protective role of IRE1α under genotoxic stress is conserved in fly and mouse. Altogether, our results uncover an important intersection between the molecular pathways that sustain genome stability and proteostasis.

El objetivo de investigación consideró examinar la percepción de los docentes chilenos acerca del emprendimiento, innovación y gamificación a través de un estudio no experimental de naturaleza transversal, con un enfoque cuantitativo y un alcance descriptivo-correlacional. Se encuestó a 106 docentes de seis establecimientos educacionales a través de un cuestionario tipo Likert y se realizaron análisis comparativos de las diferencias de medias a través de ANOVA, pruebas t y para examinar las relaciones entre variables y datos sociodemográficos se utilizó Pearson. Los principales hallazgos respaldan la idea de que la promoción de la innovación, el emprendimiento y la gamificación en la educación no debe considerarse de manera aislada, sino como componentes complementarios que pueden fortalecerse mutuamente para enriquecer el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje y fomentar el desarrollo de habilidades esenciales en los estudiantes. Se concluye que existe un sólido compromiso con la innovación en la enseñanza, pero es necesario considerar mejoras en el ámbito del emprendimiento y la gamificación.

El desplazamiento y la extranjería son coordenadas desde las que se ha escrito buena parte de la mejor poesía de estos últimos siglos, una poesía que cuestiona su mismidad al emplazarse en territorios donde germinan el asombro y el extrañamiento de una otredad inquietante (Hölderlin, Rimbaud, Pessoa, Celan, Valente, etc.). De ese modo, la poesía pone en riesgo el estatuto aparentemente inalterable de cualquier identidad, la indivisibilidad o la coherencia del trazo de una línea que se resiste a doblarse y se obstina en seguir avanzando. El problema entonces viene dado por la consistencia y la firmeza del escudo con las que se enfrenta esa línea al explorar los límites de un espacio que necesariamente habrá que traspasar para dar, como pedía Roberto Juarroz, con el revés de las cosas.

Ilustraciones, grabados, fotografías, pinturas y esculturas son los soportes más usados en las obras de influyentes exploradores, naturalistas, antropólogos y artistas visuales para describir y representar a los mapuche del territorio de Chile entre los siglos XVIII al XX. A través de ellos identificamos atributos y significados asociados a este pueblo originario y su cultura, así como también el proceso en virtud del cual su imagen gráfica pasó de la identificación ilustrada en el siglo XVIII, a la clasificación racial pretendidamente científica del cambio de siglo entre el XIX y el XX, y de ahí a la valoración costumbrista e indigenista a comienzos del siglo XX.

El presente artículo buscaanalizar las evidencias aportadas del entrenamiento de la fuerza comprobando su influencia en la Diabetes Mellitus tipo II utilizando la literatura existente sobre este objeto de estudio. Se realizo una revisión sistemática siguiendo las directrices PRISMA donde el principal contexto fue el entrenamiento de la fuerza en pacientes con Mellitus II, siendo buscados en bases de datos Pubmed, Embase y Scopus donde fueron seleccionados 7 artículos. Los hallazgos señalan consistentemente que el entrenamiento de la fuerza bien programado incide gradualmente en algunos marcadores que identifican la diabetes Mellitus II al realizar intervenciones con sistemas de entrenamiento de la fuerza de forma positiva. Los autores recomiendan estudios con muestras mayores en lo posible de tipo control para verificar la incidencia del entrenamiento en las variables mencionadas en este estudio.

Image authorship attribution presents many challenges and difficulties which have increased with the capabilities presented by synthetic image generation through different artificial intelligence algorithms available today. The hypothesis in this research considers the possibility of using artificial intelligence as a tool to detect forgeries through the usage of a deep learning algorithm. The proposed algorithm was trained using a dataset comprised of paintings by Rembrandt and other 17th century Dutch painters. Three experiments were performed with the proposed algorithm. The first was to build a classifier able to ascertain whether a painting belongs to the Rembrandt or non-Rembrandt category, depending on whether it was painted by this author or not. The second tests included other 17th century painters in four categories. Artworks could be classified as Rembrandt, Eeckhout, Leveck or other Dutch painters. The third experiment used paintings generated by Dall-e 2 and attempted to classify them using the prior categories. Experiments confirmed the hypothesis with best executions reaching accuracy rates of more than 90%. Future research with extended datasets and improved image resolution are suggested to improve the obtained results.

Tropical forest management has a potential role in forest conservation if it is sustainable. This study of a forest under management in Bolivian Amazonia strongly suggests that the management project is not sustainable and that no potential changes in management would be likely to make it so. In a 216.41 ha harvested area, 278 commercial trees from 10 families, 15 genera, and 15 species were measured. The density of commercial species with diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 50 cm was 1.28 trees ha−1, and the harvestable commercial volume was 12.40 m3 ha−1. Due to market restrictions, the actual amounts harvested were much lower: 96 trees were harvested with commercial boles totaling 2.7 m3 ha−1. Of the total impact on biomass and carbon (above- and belowground), the logs removed from the area represented only 13.4%, while 86.6% was from losses in the forest as follows: 14.5% from the stumps, crowns, and roots of harvested trees (DBH ≥ 50 cm) plus 72.1% from the trees (DBH ≥ 10 cm) in the forest lost to roads, log landings, and skid tracks and the gap openings caused by felling the harvested trees. The estimated expenses exceeded the gross revenue of the management company (USD 519.15 ha−1), a fact confirmed by the company’s subsequent bankruptcy. The project’s low harvest intensity reduces the environmental impact per hectare but increases the impact per cubic meter of wood harvested because producing a given volume of wood requires disturbing a larger area and because more kilometers of access roads and skid tracks have to be installed to extract a given volume of wood. Because many costs are fixed regardless of harvest intensity, small harvest volume can render such projects financially unfeasible, increasing the likelihood that they will be abandoned and not provide long-term “sustainable” forest protection. However, this does not mean that higher harvest intensity results in sustainability, as other constraints apply to high-intensity projects. We conclude that conservation alternatives to maintain the forest would be more beneficial than management for timber.

Dysregulated A>I(G) RNA editing, which is mainly catalyzed by ADAR1 and is a type of post-transcriptional modification, has been linked to cancer. A low response to therapy in breast cancer (BC) is a significant contributor to mortality. However, it remains unclear if there is an association between A>I(G) RNA-edited sites and sensitivity to genotoxic drugs. To address this issue, we employed a stringent bioinformatics approach to identify differentially RNA-edited sites (DESs) associated with low or high sensitivity (FDR 0.1, log2 fold change 2.5) according to the IC50 of PARP inhibitors, anthracyclines, and alkylating agents using WGS/RNA-seq data in BC cell lines. We then validated these findings in patients with basal subtype BC. These DESs are mainly located in non-coding regions, but a lesser proportion in coding regions showed predicted deleterious consequences. Notably, some of these DESs are previously reported as oncogenic variants, and in genes related to DNA damage repair, drug metabolism, gene regulation, the cell cycle, and immune response. In patients with BC, we uncovered DESs predominantly in immune response genes, and a subset with a significant association (log-rank test p < 0.05) between RNA editing level in LSR, SMPDL3B, HTRA4, and LL22NC03-80A10.6 genes, and progression-free survival. Our findings provide a landscape of RNA-edited sites that may be involved in drug response mechanisms, highlighting the value of A>I(G) RNA editing in clinical outcomes for BC.

Pre-implantation embryos release extracellular vesicles containing different molecules, including DNA. The presence of embryonic DNA in E-EVs released into the culture medium during in vitro embryo production could be useful for genetic diagnosis. However, the vesicles containing DNA might be derived from embryos suffering from apoptosis, i.e., embryos of bad quality. This work intended to confirm that embryos release DNA that is useful for genotyping by evaluating the effect of embryonic apoptosis on DNA content in E-EVs. Bovine embryos were produced by parthenogenesis and in vitro fertilization (IVF). On Day 5, morulae were transferred to individual cultures in an EV-depleted SOF medium. On Day 7, embryos were used to evaluate cellular apoptosis, and each culture medium was collected to evaluate E-EV concentration, characterization, and DNA quantification. While no effect of the origin of the embryo on the apoptotic rate was found, arrested morulae had a higher apoptotic rate. E-EVs containing DNA were identified in all samples, and the concentration of those vesicles was not affected by the origin or quality of the embryos. However, the concentration of DNA was higher in EVs released by the arrested parthenogenetic embryos. There was a correlation between the concentration of E-EVs, the concentration of DNA-positive E-EVs, and the concentration of DNA. There was no negative effect of apoptotic rate on DNA-positive E-EVs and DNA concentration; however, embryos of the best quality with a low apoptotic rate still released EVs containing DNA. This study confirms that the presence of DNA in E-EVs is independent of embryo quality. Therefore, E-EVs could be used in liquid biopsy for noninvasive genetic diagnosis.

The distribution of copper, iron, and sulfur during the oxidation of La Caridad copper concentrate particles under simulated flash smelting conditions was studied in a laboratory reactor. Six wet-sieved size fractions and the unsieved copper concentrate were oxidized at 1123 K and 40% and 70% O2 by volume in the process gas during the experiments. Samples of partially oxidized particles were collected at 0.2, 0.8, and 0.9 m from the point of entry and analyzed in a QEMSCAN® unit to determine the elemental composition within the population of particles. The distribution of the major elements during oxidation was strongly dependent upon the size and chemical composition of the initial particles. Overall, the copper content tended to increase and sulfur content decreased along the reactor length within all sizes. In contrast, the distribution of iron did not follow a general trend, as it was found to increase, decrease, or remain unchanged depending on the particle size. This finding may represent a key feature to further investigate the reaction path followed by particles during flash smelting, especially those associated with particle fragmentation. In general, the larger the particle size was, the larger the change in the content of the major elements within the particle population. Objetivo: Validar la técnica de ganglio centinela utilizando verde de indocianina en la estadificación del cáncer de endometrio. Método: Realizamos un estudio prospectivo entre enero y diciembre de 2021. Se incluyeron todas las pacientes portadoras de cáncer de endometrio clínicamente en etapa 1, de todos los grados de diferenciación e histologías. Todas las pacientes fueron sometidas a una estadificación laparoscópica. Se inició el procedimiento con identificación de ganglio centinela utilizando verde de indocianina. Posteriormente, se completó la cirugía de estadiaje estándar en todas las pacientes. Los ganglios centinelas fueron procesados con técnica de ultraestadiaje. Resultados: Se incluyeron 33 pacientes. El 81% presentaron histología endometrioide. El 100% fueron sometida además a una linfadenectomía pelviana estándar y el 20% a una linfadenectomía paraaórtica simultáneamente. Se detectó al menos un ganglio centinela en el 100% de los casos. La detección bilateral ocurrió en el 90,9%. La localización más frecuente fue la fosa obturatriz y la arteria hipogástrica. Obtuvimos una sensibilidad del 90% para detectar enfermedad ganglionar y un valor predictivo negativo del 95,8%. Conclusiones: La técnica de ganglio centinela utilizando verde de indocianina es replicable. Los resultados de nuestra serie nos permiten realizar procedimientos menos agresivos al estadificar el cáncer de endometrio.

Las competencias matemáticas tempranas tienen un gran impacto en el desempeño académico y en el desarrollo de habilidades matemáticas más complejas, especialmente en la educación inicial. Diversos autores han puesto de manifiesto la importancia de la memoria de trabajo e inhibición en el desarrollo de estas habilidades matemáticas, no obstante no existe un acuerdo respecto de la capacidad explicativa de estos dominios ejecutivos respecto al desempeño diferenciado en matemáticas. El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar la capacidad predictiva de la memoria de trabajo verbal y visoespacial y de la inhibición conductual y cognitiva en las competencias matemáticas de tipo lógico relacional y numéricas de 106 niños/as chilenos de educación inicial de entre 4 y 6 años, quienes fueron evaluados con cuatro tareas ejecutivas y un test de evaluación matemática temprana. Para el análisis de los datos se realizaron correlaciones y regresiones lineales múltiples. Los resultados mostraron que la memoria de trabajo verbal fue un predictor relevante tanto de las competencias matemáticas lógico-relacionales como de las numéricas. Estos hallazgos son relevantes para el sistema educativo, especialmente para la educación inicial, en tanto confirman que a medida que los/as niños/as avanzan en su trayectoria educativa, su memoria de trabajo se fortalece y con ello también su desempeño matemático.
