Background: Despite remarkable progress in contemporary medical technology and enhanced survival outcomes for various cancer types, pancreatic cancer (PC) continues to stand out as a particularly deadly gastrointestinal malignancy. Given a persistent rise in both incidence and the corresponding mortality rates of PC globally, evaluations of PC burden by sex are of great importance. Here, we used the illness‐death multi‐state model (IDM) to forecast the prevalence of PC through the year 2040. Methods: IDM was established based on obtainable data to predict the future prevalence of PC on global, regional, and national scales from 2019 to 2040. Analyses were also performed regarding sex and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) are presented for all estimates. Results: The projected prevalence rate for 2040 is anticipated to be 6.093 ([95% CI 5.47–6.786] per 100,000) worldwide, indicating a significant increase of 31.45% since 1990, and a 12.29% increase since 2019. The estimated average annual increase since 2020 was 0.5%. Considering sex differences, females are expected to have a steeper slope in prevalence rate than males. Intriguingly, when considering the percentage changes between the periods of 2019–2040 and 1990–2019 for both sexes, females exhibited 29% and 11% increase relative to males (2.6‐fold greater increase). Conclusions: By 2040, it is predicted that the prevalence of PC will increase globally, with women being at higher risk of developing the disease. Considering the percentage changes, regions with lower socioeconomic status are anticipated to face a greater risk of experiencing PC compared to other geographical areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Myocardial infarction (MI) is a critical emergency condition that affects all aspects of health. Patients with MI need specialized care in the Coronary care unit (CCU). The main goal of care is to ensure their comfort, which can be significantly affected by their illness and hospitalization. This study aims to explore MI patients' perceptions of support network challenges to ensure comfort in the CCU. Methods: A qualitative approach was adopted, and semi-structured interviews and notes were used for collecting data between 2020 and mid-2021. The participants were 27 MI patients in our country who had been hospitalized in the CCU of the University Heart Hospital. They were selected using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using conventional content analysis by Graneheim and Lundman. Findings: The results of this research were revealed in the form of a "support network" theme comprising five categories: "Physical support", "Mental occupations", "Presence of peers", "relatives support "and "Spiritual strategies". Conclusion: The study results showed that MI patients, in critical condition, receiving care, and hospitalized in the CCU require continuity in their support network to ensure comfort. Objective: This systematic review investigates of Augmented Reality (AR) systems used in minimally invasive surgery of deformable organs, focusing on initial registration, dynamic tracking, and visualization. The objective is to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the current knowledge, applications, and challenges associated with current AR-techniques, aiming to leverage these insights for developing a dedicated AR pulmonary Video or Robotic Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS/RATS) workflow. Methods: A systematic search was conducted within Embase, Medline (Ovid) and Web of Science on April 16, 2024, following the Preferred Reporting items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). The search focused on intraoperative AR applications and intraoperative navigational purposes for deformable organs. Quality assessment was performed and studies were categorized according to initial registration and dynamic tracking methods. Results: 33 articles were included, of which one involved pulmonary surgery. Studies used both manual and (semi-) automatic registration methods, established through anatomical landmark-based, fiducial-based, or surface-based techniques. Diverse outcome measures were considered, including surgical outcomes and registration accuracy. The majority of studies that reached an registration accuracy below 5 mm applied surface-based registration. Conclusions: AR can potentially aid surgeons with real-time navigation and decision making during anatomically complex minimally invasive procedures. Future research for pulmonary applications should focus on exploring surface-based registration methods, considering their non-invasive, marker-less nature, and promising accuracy. Additionally, vascular-labeling-based methods are worth exploring, given the importance and relative stability of broncho-vascular anatomy in pulmonary VATS/RATS. Aim: This study aimed to investigate whether transdiagnostic treatment as well as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) could improve treatment adherence and alleviate gastrointestinal symptoms plus perceived stress in patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome. Background: Research has shown that people with chronic diseases often have negative attitudes toward medications, especially when they also have psychiatric disorders. This, along with the complex dosing requirements and inadequate knowledge about medication adherence among irritable bowel syndrome patients, can affect the treatment efficacy. Methods: A randomized clinical trial was conducted using a pre-test-post-test design. The statistical population included patients with irritable bowel syndrome referring to Taleghani Hospital in Tehran between winter 2021 and spring 2022. Convenience sampling was used to select 30 individuals, with 15 people assigned to each group. Two types of psychotherapy were provided online and individually to the participants. The desired treatments were given to the transdiagnostic treatment and ACT groups in eight weekly sessions of 45-60 minutes. Results: There was no significant difference between the transdiagnostic treatment pre-test and ACT regarding perceived stress, medication adherence, and gastrointestinal symptoms (P>0.05). There was no significant difference either between the transdiagnostic treatment and ACT post-test. However, there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test phases of ACT regarding adherence, gastrointestinal symptoms, plus perceived stress (P<0.05) and transdiagnostic treatment regarding gastrointestinal symptoms (P<0.05). Conclusion: Specialists may use transdiagnostic treatment and ACT as effective psychological treatments to alleviate gastrointestinal symptoms and perceived stress, thereby increasing treatment adherence in patients with irritable bowel syndrome. With opioid overdose rates on the rise, we aimed to develop a county-level risk stratification that specifically focused on access to medications for opioid use disorder (MOUDs) and high overdose rates. We examined over 15 million records from the South Carolina Prescription Tracking System (SCRIPTS) across 46 counties. Additionally, we incorporated data from opioid treatment programs, healthcare professionals prescribing naltrexone, clinicians with buprenorphine waivers, and county-level overdose fatality statistics. To assess the risk of opioid misuse, we classified counties into high-risk and low-risk categories based on their prescription rates, overdose fatalities, and treatment service availability. Statistical methods employed included the two-sample t-test and linear regression. The t-test assessed the differences in per capita prescription rates between high-risk and low-risk counties. Linear regression was used to analyze the trends over time. Our study showed that between 2017 and 2021, opioid prescriptions decreased from 64,223 to 41,214 per 100,000 residents, while fentanyl-related overdose deaths increased by 312%. High-risk counties had significantly higher rates of fentanyl prescriptions and relied more on out-of-state doctors. They also exhibited higher instances of doctor shopping and had fewer medical doctors per capita, with limited access to MOUDs. To effectively combat the opioid crisis, we advocate for improved local healthcare infrastructure, broader treatment access, stricter management of out-of-state prescriptions, and vigilant tracking of prescription patterns.
