Paramagnetic manganese cation species have been investigated for Mn-added NaMgO by ESR. It has been found that a Mn4+ species different from those reported previously is present on the surface of NaMgO. The Mn4+ is converted to surface Mn2+ by degassing at 773 K and restores when exposed to oxygen.

A new paramagnetic compound has been found in the reaction between DPPH and the PbO 2 surface at 313 K. From the ESR studies and chemical analysis, it is revealed that this paramagnetic product is a biradical which is formed by the condensation of two peroxides. The peroxide originates from the reaction between DPPH and surface HOO − species. Since the radical-radical distance is found to be 8.6 A, the scheme is derived.

The existence of O 2 − or HOO − has been observed by epr at g = 2.008 and 2.03 on samples of manganese dioxide pretreated between 100 and 400 °C. The relative value of the epr absorption decreased with an increase in the pretreatment temperature. The concentration of surface traps determined by the DPPH method was nearly proportional to the relative value of the epr absorption on manganese dioxide. Furthermore, O 2 − or HOO − on the surface of manganese dioxide acts as an active site during the dehydrogenation reaction of isopropanol.

空気中, 100-400°Cで熱処理した亜鉛およびカドミウムの過酸化物触媒の常磁性イオンの挙動とその表面性質を調べた結果,亜鉛の過酸化物触媒では常磁性表面トラップである Zn(i)+, O2-あるいはHO2,非常磁性表面トラップであるZn(i)2+, O〓2-(格子点からはずれた酸素イオン)などが2, 2-ジフェニル-1-ビクリルヒドラジルと反応すること,さらに,表面トラップ濃度は一般にそれぞれ過酸化物触媒の塩基性度およびアセトアルデヒド縮合反応の速度比例することがわかった。なお,カドミウムの過酸化物触媒についても同様な結果が得られた。

酸化亜鉛に塩化リチウムを添加すると表面の酸性度は増加する。ZnO-LiClにメチルレッド(pKa=4.8)およびニュートラルレッド(pKa=6.8)を吸着させるといずれも約530mμに光感度の極大が認められる。したがって,光増感の機構はつぎの式で説明されよう。 ただし,SA, IおよびIadsはそれぞれ表面酸性点,指示薬および吸着した指示薬を示す。真空中,室温において光電流(J)の減衰速度は一般にJ2に比例する。また,その速度は表面酸性点に指示薬を吸着すると小さくなることから,光伝導において表面酸性点は表面トラップとして働くことがわかる。

1961年8月11日,昭和基地北方洋上に生じた金環食の際,基地において電離層観測を実施したので,その結果を報告する.この日食時には太陽高度が非常に低く,しかも若干電離層擾乱を伴っていたために,電離層の下部領域即ちE層,F_1層は観測し得なかったが,F_2領域については明らかに日食の影響が認められた.この領域について得られた主な結果を次に示す.1.F_2領域の電子消滅は主に付着作用によって行なわれ,その付着係数Bは高度300km付近において,1.5～2.0×10^sec^の値が得られた.2.この付着係数Bの値を用いて求めた理論計算曲線は,食甚時まで観測値とよく一致するが,復円時には異常な電子密度増加が認められて,理論曲線とは一致しなかった.この原因として,荷電微粒子群の進入による電離を考え,日食期間のその電子生成率q'を求めると,平均70cm^sec^の値が得られた.3.付着係数Bの値を各高度に対して求め,それによりscale heightを求めた結果,高度300km付近におけるF_2領域においては,酸素分子0_2に対する電子付着作用を仮定して,約30kmであった., During the solar eclipse on August 11, 1961, the continuous recording of h'-f observation was made in vertical incidence at Syowa Base in Antarctica, and in spite of the period of very low solar zenith angle, it was possible to find the effect of the eclipse on the ionograms. The recordings at this time were obtained of only the F2 region in the ionosphere, and the variation of electron density during the solar eclipse at a certain height of the F2 region was more remarkable than the variation of the critical frequency. The results of analysis of the observations are summarized as follows: (i) Electron in the F2 region seems to decrease by the attachment process, and the order of magnitude of the attachment coefficient can be estimated at 1.5×10^ to 2.0×10^sec^ at 300km. (ii) On the assumption of the above-mentioned values as the attachment coefficient, the computed values of an electron density during the eclipse show a good agreement with the observational values up to the maximum phase of the eclipse, but beyond the maximum phase, the observational values continue to increase rapidly in electron density until after the end of eclipse. It may be suggested that the phenomena of electron increase are due to an effect such as the ionization of charged particles, (iii) In our observation, the value of scale height obtained, as the attachment process of electron to (O_2) oxygen, is about 30 km at 300 km levels of the F2 layer.

500°Cで水素還元した酸化チタン(ルチル)の表面において,その常磁性格子欠陥(［D］)の濃度はESR吸収法により,また,その水素ラジカル源(［D］-H)の濃度はDPPH法によりそれぞれ測定された。還元初期においては［D］が,その後［D］-Hが生成する。 一方，還元した酸化チタン(ルチル)の焼結膜の光電流は［D］-Hの濃度が増加するとともに大きくなることがわかった。

銅,コバルト,ニッケル,マンガンの各酸化物の表面過剰酸素量は表面トラップ数と比例し酸化銅の場合は塩基性点とも比例する。金属酸化物の過酸化水素分解反応とアセトアルデヒド合反応に対する触媒活性は表面過剰酸素量あるいは表面トラップ数の増加にともなって高くなる。さらに酸性指示薬を吸着させると,金属酸化物上のアセトアルデヒド縮合反応は阻害される。以上の結果から表面トラップ,表面過剰酸素および塩基性点はそれぞれ重複する部分があると考えられる。

A long duration of the overshoot of photocurrent was observed for TiO2 doped with Zn2+; the extent of the overshoot decreased on successive irradiation in vacuo or in the presence of oxygen, while it kept constant in the presence of hydrogen, indicating that the photo-desorption of hydrogen is responsible for the overshoot.
