The spintronic properties of cubic ZrO2 (c-ZrO2) nanosheets with intrinsic defects and transition metal (TM) elements doping have been systematically studied by first-principle calculation. The results show that impurity Fe has the lowest formation energy in each monolayer compared to other defects. The most stable (111) nanosheet, coupled with the higher defect formation energy, tends to disintegrate. Only Zr vacancy (VZr) on the (110) surface or O vacancy (VO) on the (111) surface can generate a ferromagnetic ground state, while other intrinsic defects cannot introduce spin polarization. Ni-doped (110) monolayer cannot introduce a local magnetic moment, while Fe and Co can. The magnetic moments produced by Fe, Co, and Ni in the (111) sheet are 2, 4, and 1 µB, respectively. Further investigation revealed that the magnetism was mainly contributed by the d orbitals of the TM atom and the p orbitals of the surrounding O atoms. Magnetic couplings show that only Co–Co doped monolayers can produce macroscopic magnetism. These are predicted to produce TCs Curie temperature above room temperature when Co–Co distances are 5.070 and 6.209 Å on the (110) surface and 7.170 and 9.485 Å on the (111) surface. Quantum magneto-transport in a dissipative single molecular transistor is investigated at finite temperature in the presence of electron correlation and electron–phonon interaction within the framework of the Anderson–Holstein–Caldeira–Leggett Hamiltonian. The electron–phonon interaction and dissipation are dealt with by canonical transformations and the Coulomb correlation is treated at the mean-field level. We investigate the effects of off-stoichiometric compositional variations from the Co2Fe(Ga0.5Ge0.5) (CFGG) full-Heusler alloy on its half-metallic electronic structure. First-principles calculations predict that the Co antisite defects that occupy Fe-sites (CoFe) lead to a finite DOS in the half-metallic gap of CFGG. Fe antisites defects in Co-sites (FeCo) introduced by excessing Fe composition, which could suppress the formation of CoFe, preserves the half-metallic gap but reduces spin polarization because the Fermi level shifts to the lower energy. We found that, in Fe-excess CFGG, Ge-excess has an important role to enhance the spin polarization by lifting up the Fermi level position and suppressing the formation of CoFe. To confirm the effect of the Fe and Ge-excess off-stoichiometric composition on spin polarization and phase-purity experimentally, we fabricated CFGG epitaxial thin films with various composition ratios (Co2−αFe1+α) (Ga1−βGeβ)1+γ with small positive γ (=0.09–0.29). It turns out that Co1.75Ge or Fe1.7Ge secondary phase often forms in the films for β ≥ 0.69 in Fe-deficient (α ≤ 0.21) and excess (α ≥ 0.49) compositions. This secondary phase can be suppressed by tuning the Ge and Fe compositions, and the L21-phase pure film was found in Co39.4Fe29.3Ga13.4Ge17.9 (α = 0.28 , β = 0.57 , γ = 0.25). The measurements of conventional magnetoresistance effects qualitatively indicate higher spin polarization in the Co39.4Fe29.3Ga13.4Ge17.9 film compared to other Co-excess and Ge-deficient films, which evidences the benefit to make Fe- and Ge-excess off-stoichiometric CFGG for obtaining the half-metallic nature of CFGG. Molecular spin systems based on photoexcited triplet pairs formed via singlet fission (SF) are attractive as carriers of quantum information because of their potentially pure and controllable spin polarization, but developing systems that offer optical routes to readout as well as initialization is challenging. Herein, we characterize the electron spin magnetic resonance change in the photoluminescence intensity for a tailored organic molecular crystal while sweeping a microwave drive up to 10 GHz in a broadband loop structure. We observe resonant transitions for both triplet and quintet spin sublevel populations showing their optical sensitivity and revealing the zero-field parameters for each. We map the evolution of these spectra in both microwave frequency and magnetic field, producing a pattern of optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) peaks. Fits to these data using a suitable model suggest significant spin polarization in this system with orientation selectivity. Unusual excitation intensity dependence is also observed, which inverts the sign of the ODMR signal for the triplet features, but not for the quintet. These observations demonstrate optical detection of the spin sublevel population dictated by SF and intermolecular geometry, and highlight anisotropic and multi-scale dynamics of triplet pairs. Physical properties are commonly represented by tensors, such as optical susceptibilities. The conventional approach of deriving non-vanishing tensor elements of symmetric systems relies on the intuitive consideration of positive/negative sign flipping after symmetry operations, which could be tedious and prone to miscalculation. Here, we present a matrix-based approach that gives a physical picture centered on Neumann's principle. The principle states that symmetries in geometric systems are adopted by their physical properties. We mathematically apply the principle to the tensor expressions and show a procedure with clear physical intuition to derive non-vanishing tensor elements based on eigensystems. The validity of the approach is demonstrated by examples of commonly known second and third-order nonlinear susceptibilities of chiral/achiral surfaces, together with complicated scenarios involving symmetries such as D6 and Oh symmetries. We then further applied this method to higher-rank tensors that are useful for 2D and high-order spectroscopy. We also extended our approach to derive nonlinear tensor elements with magnetization, which is critical for measuring spin polarization on surfaces for quantum information technologies. Colloidal semiconductor nanoplatelets (NPLs) have emerged as low‐cost and free‐standing alternates of traditional quantum wells. The giant heavy‐ and light‐hole splitting in NPLs allows for efficient optical spin injection. However, the electron spin lifetimes for prototypical CdSe NPLs are within a few picoseconds, likely limited by strong electron‐hole exchange in these quantum‐ and dielectric‐confined materials. Here how this hurdle can be overcome with engineered NPL‐heterostructures is demonstrated. By constructing type‐I CdSe/ZnS core/shell NPLs, dielectric screening inside the core is strongly enhanced, prolonging the electron spin polarization time (τesp) to over 30 ps (or 60 ps electron spin‐flip time). Alternatively, by growing type‐II CdSe/CdTe core/crown NPLs to spatially separate electron and hole wavefunctions, the electron‐hole exchange is strongly suppressed, resulting in τesp as long as 300 ps at room temperature. This study not only exemplifies how the well‐established synthetic chemistry of colloidal heterostructures can aid in spin dynamics control but also establishes the feasibility of room‐temperature coherent spin manipulation in colloidal NPLs. Multiferroic van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures offer an exciting route toward the nanoelectronics and spintronics device technology. How to realize the mutual regulation between ferroelectric and magnetic materials has attracted extensive research. In this work, based on the density functional theory, we simulate a vdW multiferroic heterostructure based on the bipolar magnetic semiconductor material graphone and ferroelectric monolayer In2Te3 and further investigate its electronic properties. We find that direct contact between In2Te3 and graphone induces a transition in graphone from a ferromagnetic state to a non-magnetic state. Fortunately, the magnetic properties of graphone are preserved by using graphene as an intercalation layer, and the graphone monolayer changes from its original semiconductor to a half-metal in the graphone/graphene/In2Te3 vdW heterostructure for P↓ state. Furthermore, by adjusting the layer spacing of the heterostructure, the spin polarization states of graphone at the Fermi level (EF) are regulated between spin-up (S↑) and spin-down (S↓) with the reversal of ferroelectric polarization states. Our results not only provide a promising way to realize the half-metallicity in 2D magnetic materials but also computationally predict the ferroelectric control of the spin polarization state, which has great application potential in the next-generation nonvolatile electrically controlled spintronic devices. Emergent phenomena such as two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) and interfacial superconductivity and ferromagnetism are generally built on the interface between insulating oxide thin films and substrates, e.g., LaAlO3/SrTiO3, where the 2D profiles of these electronic states are precisely confined at the interface of two insulators. Herein we report a high-mobility electron gas state with unusual symmetry at the interface of the Sr2CrMoO6/SrTiO3 (110) heterostructures, the fermiology of which follows the cubic crystallographic symmetry rather than the two-dimensional interface itself, resulting in the identical Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations with applied magnetic field along all the twelve equivalent [110] crystallographic directions of SrTiO3, distinctly different from the 2D nature of the electron gas reported previously. Neutron diffraction verifies the predicted ferrimagnetic ordering between Cr and Mo moments. This, together with the magnetic hysteresis loops and negative magnetoresistance in low-field region, suggests possible spin polarization of itinerant electrons. Therefore, a quasi-3D profile, high mobility (up to 104 cm2 V−1 s−1) and possibly spin polarized electronic state is observed in the double-perovskite-based oxide heterostructures. This finding of the electronic properties in Sr2CrMoO6/SrTiO3 (110) heterostructure expands the knowledge of interfacial physics, as well as shines light on oxide-based electronics and spintronics research. The existence of electron gas at the interfaces of oxide-based heterostructures with broken spatial inversion symmetry gives rise to various interesting physical phenomena. Here, the authors report a new type quasi-three-dimensional electron gas state at the interface of ferrimagnetic semiconductor-strontium titanate heterostructures, which show high mobility, high valley degeneracy and possible spin polarization. Solar‐to‐chemical energy conversion thorugh photocatalytic technology has garnered significant attention due to its potential for clean hydrogen pro duction, pollutant degradation, and carbon dioxide reduction. However, its relatively low solar‐to‐chemical conversion efficiency hinders its industrial development. External fields have currently emerged as a supplementary energy source to augment the overall catalytic efficiency. Recently, the photocatalytic performance has been considerably enhanced through magnetic field modulation, which promotes the separation and transfer of photoexcited charge carriers. This article systematically reviews the recent research progress of magnetic field–assisted photocatalysis, discussing phenomena such as the negative magnetoresistance effect, Lorentz force, and spin polarization. It comprehensively analyzes the effect of magnetic fields on critical processes in photocatalysis: light absorption, charge‐carrier separation, and surface reactions. In particular, this review focuses on the spin‐relaxation mechanism, explains how the electron lifetime is extended through spin polarization, and proposes design strategies for spin‐polarized materials. Finally, this review discusses the challenges and potential opportunities for enhancing photocatalytic efficiency. The ultimate objective of this review is to offer notable theoretical and experimental insights that can guide the design and development of high‐performance photocatalysts and photocatalytic systems. Graphene, with spin and valley degrees of freedom, fosters unexpected physical and chemical properties for the realization of next‐generation quantum devices. However, the spin‐symmetry of graphene is rather robustly protected, hampering manipulation of the spin degrees of freedom for the application of spintronic devices such as electric gate‐tunable spin filters. It is demonstrated that a hybrid heterostructure composed of graphene and LaCoO3 epitaxial thin film exhibits an electrically tunable spin‐exchange splitting. The large and adjustable spin‐exchange splitting of 155.9 – 306.5 meV is obtained by the characteristic shifts in both the spin‐symmetry‐broken quantum Hall states and the Shubnikov–de Haas oscillations. Strong hybridization‐induced charge transfer across the hybrid heterointerface has been identified for the observed spin exchange splitting. The substantial and facile controllability of the spin exchange splitting provides an opportunity for spintronics applications with the electrically‐tunable spin polarization in hybrid heterostructures. Polarization and spin correlations have been studied in detail for top quarks at the LHC, but have been explored very little for the other flavors of quarks. In this paper we consider the processes pp → with q = b, c or s. Utilizing the partial preservation of the quark's spin information in baryons in the jet produced by the quark, we examine possible analysis strategies for ATLAS and CMS to measure the quark polarization and spin correlations. We find polarization measurements for the b and c quarks to be feasible, even with the currently available datasets. Spin correlation measurements for are possible using the CMS Run 2 parked data, while such measurements for will become possible with higher integrated luminosity. For the s quark, we find the measurements to be challenging with the standard triggers. We also provide leading-order QCD predictions for the polarization and spin correlations expected in the and samples with the cuts envisioned for the above analyses. Apart from establishing experimentally the existence of spin correlations in and systems produced in pp collisions, the proposed measurements can provide new information on the polarization transfer from quarks to baryons and might even be sensitive to physics beyond the Standard Model. The recent successes of superconducting qubits and the demonstration of quantum supremacy over classical bits herald a new era for information processing. Yet, the field is still in its infancy and there exist viable alternative candidates that can also store quantum information. In this review, we will highlight ideas, attempts, and the experimental progress to address nuclear spins in graphene, a readily available Dirac semimetal that consists of a single layer of carbon atoms. Carbon isotopes with a nuclear spin are rare in natural graphene. However, it is possible to enrich the spin-bearing 13C isotopes to produce large-scale graphene sheets, which constitute the testbed to store, transport, and retrieve spin information, or to engineer nanostructures. Here, the hyperfine interaction between the electron spins and the nuclear spins serves as an experimental control knob and mediator to address nuclear polarization and nuclear spin coherence times through electrical measurements. The exploitation of nuclear spins in graphene is thus an alluring perspective. We will discuss methods to synthesize 13C graphene and show experimental approaches and challenges to exploit the relatively weak hyperfine interaction in two-dimensional 13C graphene devices. The ultimate purpose, i.e., the exploitation of nuclear spins in graphene for information processing, is not within reach, but its potential for future applications merits a revisit of the current state-of-the-art. The present study focuses on the spin-dependent vibrational properties of HKUST-1, a metal–organic framework with potential applications in gas storage and separation. Employing density functional theory (DFT), we explore the consequences of spin couplings in the copper paddle wheels (as the secondary building units of HKUST-1) on the material's vibrational properties. By systematically screening the impact of the spin state on the phonon bands and densities of states in the various frequency regions, we identify asymmetric -COO- stretching vibrations as being most affected by different types of magnetic couplings. Notably, we also show that the DFT-derived insights can be quantitatively reproduced employing suitably parametrized, state-of-the-art machine-learned classical potentials with root-mean-square deviations from the DFT results between 3 cm−1 and 7 cm−1. This demonstrates the potential of machine-learned classical force fields for predicting the spin-dependent properties of complex materials, even when explicitly considering spins only for the generation of the reference data used in the force-field parametrization process. The spin superconductor state is the spin-polarized triplet exciton condensate, which can be viewed as a counterpart of the charge superconductor state. As an analogy of the charge Josephson effect, the spin Josephson effect can be generated in the spin superconductor/normal metal/spin superconductor junctions. Here we study the spin supercurrent in the Josephson junctions consisting of two spin superconductors with noncollinear spin polarizations. For the Josephson junctions with out-of-plane spin polarizations, the possible π -state spin supercurrent appears due to the Fermi momentum-splitting Andreev-like reflections at the normal metal/spin superconductor interfaces. For the Josephson junctions with in-plane spin polarizations, the anomalous spin supercurrent appears and is driven by the misorientation angle of the in-plane polarizations. The symmetry analysis shows that the appearance of the anomalous spin Josephson current is possible when the combined symmetry of the spin rotation and the time reversal is broken. Half-metallic ferromagnetic Heusler alloys attracted much attention in the last few decades due to their significant physical properties as well as its potential applications in spintronic devices. To explore and predict the various physical properties of Co-based Heusler alloy, Co2MnSi (CMS), First principles calculations are of interest and has been used in the present study. Optimized E–V curves represent that CMS alloy is most stable in its magnetic L21 structural phase. The electronic charge density plot represents the ionic bonding along with co-valent character for the compound. DOS and BS calculations shows 100% spin polarization at Fermi level (EF) which confirms the half metallic character of the compound. DOS exhibited the prominent role of Co-3d and Mn-3d electronic states along with Si-2p electronic states. Estimated magnetic moment of Co2MnSi Heusler alloy was found to be ~ 5μB per f. u. which is in line with the Slater-Pauling behaviour. Dynamical stability of Co2MnSi Heusler alloy has also been verified by the phonon dispersion curves which revealed that compound is dynamically stable. Additionally, the physical properties have also been explored as a consequence of SOC and significant changes in electronic and optical properties were observed. The observed significant results of electronic, magnetic, and optical properties of CMS Heusler alloy makes it promising towards potential application in optical and spintronic devices. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the discovery of LaAlO3/SrTiO3 (LAO/STO) oxide heterointerfaces. Since their discovery, transition metal oxide (TMO) interfaces have emerged as a fascinating and fast‐growing area of research, offering a variety of unique and exotic physical properties which has provided a strong impetus for the rapid advances and actualization of oxide electronics. This review revisits the fundamental mechanisms accounting for the two‐dimensional (2D) conducting interfaces, and how new models proposed to better account for the unique interfacial effects. Recent breakthroughs in the theoretical and experimental domains of oxide interfaces are also discussed including the detection and investigation of 2D quasiparticle. Moving beyond the well‐known LAO/STO interface, this review delves into other systems where unconventional interfacial superconductivity, interfacial magnetism, and spin polarization are dealt with in greater detail. In terms of device applications, this review proceeds with a treatment on the recent developments in domains including field effect transistors and freestanding heterostructure membranes. By emphasizing the opportunities and challenges of integrating oxide interfaces with existing technologies, the review will end off with an outlook projecting the progress and the trajectory of this research domain in the years to come. Low-energy (~ 100eV) electrons have been employed for more than half a century to investigate physical, chemical and electronic phenomena in condensed matter and surface physics. A particular role may be attributed to a purely quantum-mechanical property of the electron-its spin or intrinsic angular momentum. Since the 1970s the electron spin has been indispensable in determining the role of spin-dependent interactions, such as exchange interaction and spin-orbit coupling and their consequences. Most recently, the aspect of topology and its role in condensed matter systems has given a new drive to the investigation of the electron spin and spin textures in such materials. New results on time-dependent ultrafast phenomena may become available by the availability of new intense lasers and laser-driven sources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on the recursive Green-function method together with Landauer–Büttiker formalism, the spin-dependent transport properties of electrons in a zigzag silicene nanoribbon embedding multiple rectangular quantum dots (QDs) are investigated. According to an analysis of the energy band under the periodically distributed electric field and exchange ferromagnetic field, the parallel exchange field induced by the ferromagnetic insulators eliminates the spin degeneracy, which leads to spin-polarized transport in the proposed structure. By tuning a periodic electric field, we found the relationship between the number of QDs and the splitting peak for conductance in the anti-parallel exchange field. We discover the population of electrons near QDs by calculating the local density of states. The effect of the geometry of periodic QDs on the shift of resonance peak is evaluated. The spin polarization is further explored for various configurations of electric field and exchange field in order to manipulate the spin filtering more effectively. The generation and manipulation of spin-polarized electrons are the basis of spintronic applications. Spin injection from a ferromagnetic surface or heterojunction to a semiconductor adjacent layer is often used to create spin-polarized carriers; however, for halide perovskites, due to the mismatch of lattice parameters with most ferromagnets at room temperature, this spin injection is challenging. In this study, we synthesize all-inorganic perovskite CsPbBr3 surrounded by Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles. It is found that this nanocomposite shows both magnetization and magnetic field-induced circularly polarized photoluminescence at room temperature. Specifically, with the attachment of Fe3O4 nanoparticles closely on the surface of CsPbBr3 nanocrystals, both the degree of circular polarization and g-factor enhanced by 3.5 times compared with that of pure CsPbBr3. The phenomenon should be due to the formation of exciton magnetic polaron through the coupling of the magnetic aligned nanoparticles with the excitonic state of the host semiconductor in the external magnetic field. Fe-based catalysts have a good prospect in oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in fuel cells. However, the catalytic activity of Fe-based catalysts requires further improvement to satisfy the demand in industrial application and the working mechanism is still shrouded in ambiguity. Here, a ferromagnetic catalyst with nitrogen-doped carbon supported FeCoNi alloy was synthesized by impregnation-pyrolysis method. The micromorphology and structure of the catalyst was analyzed by XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS, BET and Raman spectroscopy. The trimetallic catalyst showed high ORR activity in 0.1 M KOH with a half-wave potential of 0.908 V and a limiting current density of 6.153 mA cm−2, which was superior to 20 % Pt/C. The synergistic effect of FeCoNi alloy regulated the spin polarization and the regulated spin state improved ORR performance by facilitating the adsorption of O 2 molecules and the conversion of the activated intermediates. Understanding magnetotransport properties in semiconductors plays a vital role in either developing future spintronic or unveiling the underpinning physics of electronic dynamics. In recent years, the high‐field magnetoconductance (HFM, B ~ 1 T) in polymers has drawn intense discussions and always been attributed to thermal spin polarization (TSP). In this work, the HFMs in several benchmark polymers are proposed to be correlated to the ∆g spin‐mixing effect, determined from their remarkable anisotropy in response to magnetic fields, which cannot be explained only by TSP. It is the fundamental difference between two spins' Lande factors stemming from the random orientations of molecular backbones that contributes to the intense ∆g spin‐mixing effect, leading to HFMs' anisotropy as high as 150%. It is further found that the ∆g spin‐mixing mechanism greatly correlates with the charge transport dynamics in polymers, in which a slow‐ to fast‐hopping crossover was observed and further verified by pressure‐dependent HFMs characteristics. Manipulating the polarization of spin waves highlights the potential of antiferromagnetic magnonics in encoding and handling magnon information with high fidelity. Here, we propose a flexible approach to mutually convert polarization states (i.e., Hadamard gate) by incorporating a topological degree of freedom, intrinsic orbital angular momentum (OAM), into twisted spin wave modes within synthetic antiferromagnetic nanodisks. The polarization states of spin waves and the implementation of magnonic logic operations can be electrically read out through combined spin pumping and inverse spin Hall effect, as demonstrated by numerical micromagnetic simulations for CoFeB-based synthetic antiferromagnets. Our findings present an exciting possibility of parallel magnonic computing utilizing topologically protected and magnetic damping-resistance OAM of twisted magnons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

When spin‐orbit coupling (SOC) is absent, all proposed half‐metals with twofold degenerate nodal points at the K (or K′) point in 2D materials are classified as "Dirac half‐metals" owing to the way graphene is utilized in the earliest studies. Actually, each band crossing point at the K or K′ point is described by a 2D Weyl Hamiltonian with definite chirality; hence, it should be a Weyl point. To the best of its knowledge, there have not yet been any reports of a genuine (i.e., fourfold degenerate) 2D Dirac point half‐metal. In this work, using first‐principles calculations, it proposes forthefirsttime that the 2D d0‐type ferromagnet Mg4N4 is a genuine 2D Dirac half‐metal candidate with a fourfold degenerate Dirac point at the S high‐symmetry point, intrinsic magnetism, a high Curie temperature, 100% spin polarization, topology robust under the SOC and uniaxial and biaxial strains, and spin‐polarized edge states. This work can serve as a starting point for future predictions of intrinsically magnetic materials with genuine 2D Dirac points, which will aid the frontier of topo‐spintronics research in 2D systems. Periodic nanostructure is a novel method to manipulate the electronic properties in electronics. An efficient method in this paper is proposed to judge whether m identical periods' magnetic nanostructure is a periodic structure by judging whether its physical structure and its magnetic vector potential structure both keep periodic. By investigating the influence of the δ -doping potential on the electron transport properties with m identical periods' magnetic barrier nanostructure of InAs system, it shows that, firstly, the resonant peak of transmission probability, conductance, and spin polarization has been induced by splitting into (2 m − 1) folds with m units nanostructure, respectively, especially when the resonant peak of transmission probability is almost close to 1 as the incident energy is lower; secondly, the height of δ -doping potential has an extensive influence on the resonant peak of transmission probability, which the resonant peak will be more dependent of the height of δ -doping potential increasing. The spin Hall effect (SHE) allows efficient generation of spin polarization or spin current through charge current and plays a crucial role in the development of spintronics. While SHE typically occurs in non-magnetic materials and is time-reversal even, exploring time-reversal-odd (T-odd) SHE, which couples SHE to magnetization in ferromagnetic materials, offers a new charge-spin conversion mechanism with new functionalities. Here, we report the observation of giant T-odd SHE in Fe3GeTe2/MoTe2 van der Waals heterostructure, representing a previously unidentified interfacial magnetic spin Hall effect (interfacial-MSHE). Through rigorous symmetry analysis and theoretical calculations, we attribute the interfacial-MSHE to a symmetry-breaking induced spin current dipole at the vdW interface. Furthermore, we show that this linear effect can be used for implementing multiply-accumulate operations and binary convolutional neural networks with cascaded multi-terminal devices. Our findings uncover an interfacial T-odd charge-spin conversion mechanism with promising potential for energy-efficient in-memory computing. Charge-to-spin conversion allows for the generation and control of spin polarization via a charge current. Typically, this is done with non-magnetic materials with large spin-orbit interactions such as Platinum. In this work, the spin pumping technique was employed to investigate the anomalous inverse spin Hall effect in BIG/NiO/Fe samples where BIG[ (Bi , Tm) 3 (Fe , Ga) 5 O 12 ] exhibits perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. Our results reveal an intriguing phenomenon: when the magnetization of both ferromagnetic layers is perpendicular to each other, a distinct spin-to-charge current conversion mechanism occurs. We investigate the magnetic properties of La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 (LSMO) membranes released from an SrTiO3 (STO) substrate by selectively etching an Sr4Al2O7 sacrificial buffer layer. The magnetic moment and Curie temperatures (TC) of the released LSMO membranes improve significantly over their substrate-bound counterparts. We attribute these enhancements to suppressing strain and oxygen octahedral rotations that are present in substrate-bound films. Moreover, comparing the magnetic hysteresis loops obtained with magnetic fields applied along several crystallographic orientations demonstrates enhanced (weakened) perpendicular (in-plane) magnetic anisotropy in the released LSMO membranes. The photogalvanic effects (PGEs) in low-dimensional devices have attracted great interests recently. Herein, based on non-equilibrium Green's function combined with density functional theory, we investigated spin-dependent PGE phenomena in the BiC photodetector with the linearly polarized light and zero bias. Due to the presence of strong spin–orbit interaction (SOI) and C 3 v symmetry for the BiC monolayer, the armchair and zigzag BiC photodetectors can produce robust spin-dependent PGEs which possess the cos(2 θ) and sin(2 θ) relations on the photon energies, respectively. Especially, the pristine armchair and armchair Bi-vacancy BiC photodetectors can produce fully spin polarization, and pure spin current was found in the pristine armchair and zigzag BiC photodetector, respectively. Furthermore, after introducing the Bi-vacancy, C-vacancy, Bi-doping and C-doping respectively, the BiC photodetector can produce higher spin-dependent PGEs for their C s symmetry. Additionally, the behaviors of spin-dependent photoresponse are highly anisotropic which can be tuned by the photon energy. With the field correlator method (FCM) for QCD, we show that the chiral vortical effect (CVE) in hot (strongly-interacting) quark-gluon plasma ((s)QGP) is modified by non-perturbative interactions – by color-magnetic confinement, and by remnant color-electric interaction, which is encoded in the Polyakov line. The obtained result demonstrates numerical suppression of CVE comparable to the phenomenological suppression used for numerical simulations of RHIC-STAR data on hyperons spin polarization in non-central heavy ion collision (HIC). The parameters range in the temperature – quark chemical potential plane is expected to cover ALICE and RHIC data. The chiral current is calculated for the rigidly rotating model of (s)QGP in the linear order in angular velocity at the rotation axis with account of non-perturbative interactions. Spin polarized electron beams have wide applications in high energy physics. The generation of such electron beams has recently attracted considerable attention where the collision of intense laser pulses with high energy electron beams is proposed as one of the potential methods. In previous numerical studies, different spin-quantization axes (SQA) are used, which lead to different calculation results in some configurations of laser interaction with an electron beam. To be consistent with the well-known Thomas–Bargmann–Michel–Telegdi (TBMT) equation, we have proposed a new SQA which is along the TBMT precession direction. We clearly show the difference among the three kinds of SQA selections by comparing the temporal evolution of the electron beam's polarization during the perpendicular collision of an electron beam with s-polarized two-color laser pulses, where the magnetic fields have a parallel component along the electron motion direction. Calculation shows that such differences could be experimentally measured by nowadays facilities. To get the maximum electron polarization degree in the two-color laser pulses based schemes, we also find the optimized condition for the two-color laser parameters. The study explores the wave propagation characteristics of surface plasma waves in a semi-bounded plasma, incorporating the influence of spin polarization arising from spin mismatch. The formulated plasma model integrates the density correlation effect via Bohm's potential force, Fermi pressure employing Fermi-Dirac statistics, and the exchange potential. These factors are considered in spin-polarized form and interconnected through the spin polarization index κ. We derive a dispersion relation for surface plasma waves, delineating the propagation features of the configured wave mode. Our findings indicate that an increase in spin polarization among electron populations results in a decrease in the phase velocity of surface plasma waves compared to the usual electron-ion quantum plasma. Moreover, an increase in the exchange potential contributes to a decrease in the phase speed. However, the ratio of plasmon to Fermi energy leads to an increase in the phase velocity of surface plasma waves in a spin-polarized quantum plasma. We provide a comparative analysis of our work with an earlier model based on the gold–air interface, revealing that our model facilitates the propagation of surface plasma waves with higher frequencies across the wave vector. This study highlights the significance of quantum effects for electrostatic surface plasma waves in dense metallic plasmas at room temperature, with implications for signal transmission in metallic waveguides observed in a recent study [Guo et al., "Excitation of graphene magneto-plasmons in terahertz range and giant Kerr rotation," J. Altermagnets are an emerging elementary class of collinear magnets. Unlike ferromagnets, their distinct crystal symmetries inhibit magnetization while, unlike antiferromagnets, they promote strong spin polarization in the band structure. The corresponding unconventional mechanism of time-reversal symmetry breaking without magnetization in the electronic spectra has been regarded as a primary signature of altermagnetism but has not been experimentally visualized to date. We directly observe strong time-reversal symmetry breaking in the band structure of altermagnetic RuO2 by detecting magnetic circular dichroism in angle-resolved photoemission spectra. Our experimental results, supported by ab initio calculations, establish the microscopic electronic structure basis for a family of interesting phenomena and functionalities in fields ranging from topological matter to spintronics, which are based on the unconventional time-reversal symmetry breaking in altermagnets. Photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical water splitting using semiconductor materials are effective approaches for converting solar energy into hydrogen fuel. In the past few years, a series of photocatalysts/photoelectrocatalysts have been developed and optimized to achieve efficient solar hydrogen production. Among various optimization strategies, the regulation of spin polarization can tailor the intrinsic optoelectronic properties for retarding charge recombination and enhancing surface reactions, thus improving the solar-to-hydrogen (STH) efficiency. This review presents recent advances in the regulation of spin polarization to enhance spin polarized-dependent solar hydrogen evolution activity. Specifically, spin polarization manipulation strategies of several typical photocatalysts/photoelectrocatalysts (e.g., metallic oxides, metallic sulfides, non-metallic semiconductors, ferroelectric materials, and chiral molecules) are described. Magnetic field‐enhanced electrocatalytic activity has recently emerged as an effective strategy for electrocatalytic reactions. However, modulating the electrical behavior and spin ordering in real‐time using magnetic field during the electrocatalytic process remains challenging. Herein, based on the coexistence of room‐temperature ferromagnetic and magnetoresistance (MR) properties in La1−xSrxMnO3, it demonstrates that in addition to spin polarization, the negative MR effect contributes significantly to the enhancement of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) owing to the considerable MR value (−7.32% for La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 at 1.0 T). Accordingly, a lessened OER overpotential of ≈120 mV (at 10 mA cm−2) and a reduced charge‐transfer resistance are observed in La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 under a magnetic field of 1.0 T. Additionally, the power density of self‐assembled Zn–air battery (ZnAB) based on La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 improves by 5.9 times under 1.0 T. Calculation results reveal that spin alignment can induce more unoccupied electronic states near the Fermi level, decrease the energy level of the Mn d‐band center, and significantly reduce the O* formation barrier to enhance the OER activity of Sr‐doped LaMnO3. Thus, the in situ regulation of charge and spin ordering by magnetic field offers a deeper understanding for designing high‐performance ZnABs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is a crucial cathode reaction for developing quasi‐solid zinc–air batteries (QZABs) with high energy density. However, the activity and stability of catalysts under extreme conditions have not been fully explore. Herein, a series of systematic experiments and theoretical calculations have been conducted to investigate the potential of introducing FexCoy into nitrogen (N)‐doped porous carbon (NPC) via one‐step pyrolysis to form a core–shell structure that can effectively enhance the activity of the catalysts, particularly at low temperatures. Due to the difference in the work function of 5.12, 5.11, and 5.06 eV, the spin‐polarized charge is transferred to the pyridinic‐N site on the surface under the charge transfer. Consequently, the pyridinic‐N site on the surface exhibits varying degrees of magnetic moment 0.024 µB, which is crucial for forming OOH* and enhances ORR activity. The Fe5Co5@NPC catalyst is evaluated for QZABs at −40 °C and achieved a power density of up to 117.6 mW cm−2, which is only 18.7% lower than normal temperature, and a cycle life of up to 300 h. The efficient manipulation of magnetization using spin‐orbit torques (SOTs) generated by heavy metals and topological insulators has attracted significant attention. However, the symmetry of these conventional materials makes it challenging to achieve deterministic switching of perpendicular magnetization by currents, which prevents the practical application of SOT‐based spintronic devices such as magnetic memories and logics. Here, a composition gradient in a TaxTi1‐x alloy is introduced and the field‐free magnetization switching in TaxTi1‐x/CoFeB heterostructures with controllable SOT efficiencies is realized. Additionally, by engineering the gradient with a tilting angle relative to the current injection arm of the device, highly asymmetric switching loops are achieved, which are attributed to tilted spin polarization. Based on these two switching types, namely field‐free switching and field‐assisted asymmetric switching, five programmable Boolean logic functions are successfully demonstrated using a single device. This paper will focus on the comparative study of the structural, electronic, magnetic, optical, and thermoelectric properties of the two Heusler systems Ag2TiGa and Ag2VGa in the inverse L21 Hg2CuTi structure. Using the density functional theory‐based wien2k code, which implements the computational methods used in this study, namely GGA, GGA‐mBJ, GGA + U, and GGA + SOC (spin‐orbit coupling). The band structures show that all two structures studied are metallic. The spin density of states of Ag2VGa has evident spin splitting near the Fermi level, and the total magnetic moment of the Ag2VGa structure is 2.19 μB, which indicates that Ag2VGa is magnetic. The full‐Heusler Ag2VGa material can be used as spintronic materials due to their high spin polarization (about 50%). While Ag2TiGa has low polarization so it is bad electronically, but better thermoelectrically than Ag2VGa. So, the full‐Heusler Ag2TiGa material may also be considered as a potential candidate for thermoelectric applications at room temperature. Studies of the two new Heusler alloys may provide a theoretical reference for subsequent theoretical research and experimental synthesis of Ag‐based Heusler alloys. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We have looked at a very interesting class of Heusler alloy that has received a lot of theoretical research but a very little experimental attention. Mn2TiSi Heusler alloy was synthesized by a conventional vacuum arc remelting process. The formation of Heusler phase along with the secondary phases was observed after annealing it at 773 K for 120 h. The X-ray diffraction pattern illustrates the presence of cubic B2 disordered phase along with a secondary phase with a lattice parameter of 5.82 Å. The microstructure and compositional analysis of Mn2TiSi alloy shows the presence of distribution of Mn, Ti, and Si elements according to their stoichiometric ratio. The magnetic measurements show a ferromagnetic nature with Curie temperature (TC) around 203 K. With low magnetic moment and coercivity, Mn2TiSi can be used for switching applications because of its fast magnetization reversal. So, Mn2TiSi becomes the greatest choice for use in spintronics due to its low magnetic moment and low coercivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electret fiber filtration materials prepared by electrostatic spinning and corona polarization have drawn significant interest in treating radioactive aerosols. In this study, a three-dimensional biomass-based electret nanofiber aerogel material with high dust capacity, high filtration efficiency and low-pressure drop was created by pore structure regulation. The results showed that aerogels with good charge capture and storage ability were obtained by regulating the concentration of tert-butanol and ethylcellulose fiber suspension, and the pre-freezing temperature. The initial surface potential and stable surface potential increased from 0.85 and 0.05 kV to 1.37 and 0.15 kV respectively. Furthermore, the purification time was reduced from 44 to 15 min. Inner edge state with spin and valley degrees of freedom is a promising candidate for designing a dissipationless device due to the topological protection. The central challenge for the application of the inner edge state is to generate and modulate the polarized currents. In this work, we discover a new mechanism to generate fully valley- and spin–valley-polarized current caused by the Bloch wavevector mismatch (BWM). Based on this mechanism, we design some serial-typed inner-edge filters. By using once of the BWM, the coincident states could be divided into transmitted and reflected modes, which can serve as a valley or spin–valley filter. In particular, while with twice of the BWM, the incident current is absolutely reflected to support an off state with a specified valley and spin, which is different from the gap effect. Transition‐metal oxyhydroxides are attractive catalysts for oxygen evolution reactions (OERs). Further studies for developing transition‐metal oxyhydroxide catalysts and understanding their catalytic mechanisms will benefit their quick transition to the next catalysts. Herein, Mo‐doped CoOOH was designed as a high‐performance model electrocatalyst with durability for 20 h at 10 mA cm−2. Additionally, it had an overpotential of 260 mV (glassy carbon) or 215 mV (nickel foam), which was 78 mV lower than that of IrO2 (338 mV). In situ, Raman spectroscopy revealed the transformation process of CoOOH. Calculations using the density functional theory showed that during OER, doped Mo increased the spin‐up density of states and shrank the spin‐down bandgap of the 3d orbits in the reconstructed CoOOH under the electrochemical activation process, which simultaneously optimized the adsorption and electron conduction of oxygen‐related intermediates on Co sites and lowered the OER overpotentials. Constructing a mixed-dimensional (MD) graphene-based van der Waals heterostructure (vdWH) is a viable technique for opening the bandgap and introducing spin polarization in graphene. In this work, we discovered that the adjacent MnF4 can manipulate the carrier doping, bandgap opening, and spin polarization of graphene in the MD vdWH of graphene/MnF4 comprised of two-dimensional (2D) graphene and one-dimensional atomic wire (1D AW) MnF4. By adopting first-principles calculations, we found that graphene can achieve effective p-type doping with the carrier density up to ∼8.89 × 1013–1.03 × 1014 cm−2. With a twisted angle of θ = 10.89° and the compressed distance of dMn-Gra = 2.84 Å, the opened bandgap of graphene (Eg-Gra) achieves 35 and 57 meV for spin-up and spin-down channels due to the sublattice symmetry-breaking in graphene, and the spin splitting energy (ΔES) at the Dirac point reaches 78.7 meV as a result of the graphene–MnF4 interlayer interaction. Remarkably, Eg-Gra is increased to 64 and 79 meV for spin-up and spin-down channels, and ΔES with 202.7 meV is obtained at dMn-Gra = 2.84 Å when the width of 1D MnF4 is doubled. Meanwhile, the n-type Ohmic contact is also realized. Our work underscores the rich interplay in the graphene/MnF4 MD vdWH and provides a significant route with fundamental insights to engineer the spintronic band properties of graphene. We present detailed investigations of the magnetic properties of Pt/CoFeB/MgO layers as studied using the angle-resolved spin-torque ferromagnetic resonance method. Although the measurements provide reasonable magnetic parameters, we obtain an unusual value in the interfacial spin transparency if spin-pumping is assumed to be the dominant source for enhancing magnetic damping (αeff) in the nanometer thickness regime. However, the thickness dependence of the Landé g-factor (geff) for CoFeB indicates that the interfacial spin–orbit coupling plays a role in determining αeff. In addition, the azimuthal asymmetry in the magnetic system may not be related to the possibility of generating unconventional spin polarization. The results in this work are expected to aid in understanding various magnetic properties and current-induced spin-torques in a heavy-metal/ferromagnet bilayer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We have theoretically studied spin- and valley-transport properties in a silicene quantum structure with a square magnetic barrier modulated by off-resonant circularly polarized light (OCPL). The result shows that in the magnetic quantum structure, valley and spin filtering can be realized simultaneously with appropriate OCPL at small incident angles. More interestingly, at normal incidence, Klein tunneling is observed in the K ′ valley. Besides, it is also found that valley polarization can be inverted by reversing the sign of the staggered potential or the chirality of OCPL. Nevertheless, the direction of spin polarization can only be modulated by the chirality of OCPL. These findings provide the potential applications for constructing novel type of silicene devices. The two-spin solid effect (2SSE) is one of the established continuous wave dynamic nuclear polarization mechanisms that enables enhancement of nuclear magnetic resonance signals. It functions via a state-mixing mechanism that mediates the excitation of forbidden transitions in an electron–nuclear spin system. Specifically, microwave irradiation at frequencies ωμw ∼ ω0S ± ω0I, where ω0S and ω0I are electron and nuclear Larmor frequencies, respectively, yields enhanced nuclear spin polarization. Following the recent rediscovery of the three-spin solid effect (3SSE) [Tan et al., Sci. Adv. 5, eaax2743 (2019)], where the matching condition is given by ωμw = ω0S ± 2ω0I, we report here the first direct observation of the four-spin solid effect (4SSE) at ωμw = ω0S ± 3ω0I. The forbidden double- and quadruple-quantum transitions were observed in samples containing trityl radicals dispersed in a glycerol–water mixture at 0.35 T/15 MHz/9.8 GHz and 80 K. We present a derivation of the 4SSE effective Hamiltonian, matching conditions, and transition probabilities. We investigate a spin-boson inspired model of electron transfer, where the diabatic coupling is given by a position-dependent phase, eiWx. We consider both equilibrium and nonequilibrium initial conditions. We show that, for this model, all equilibrium results are completely invariant to the sign of W (to infinite order). However, the nonequilibrium results do depend on the sign of W, suggesting that photo-induced electron transfer dynamics with spin–orbit coupling can exhibit electronic spin polarization (at least for some time). The chiral molecules are potential generators of high spin-filters due to their inherent inversion asymmetric helical electric field. We report a controlled spin-selective transmission of electrons through self-assembled monolayers of 15 base-paired double-stranded deoxyribonucleic acid functionalized with two enantiomeric cysteine molecules on gold explored through the quantum mechanical tunneling effect. We observed a controlled spin polarization of 33% with dextro-cysteine, whereas a mere 8% was observed with levo-cysteine molecules using these functionalizations at room temperature. The manipulation of electron's spin merely through such a small molecule could lead to significant advancement in the spin-dependent charge transport phenomena and related applications.
