In recent years, the cultural heritage (CH) sector has experienced a rapid evolution due to the introduction of increasingly powerful digital technologies and ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) solutions. As for many other domains, digital data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Extended Reality (XR) are opening up extraordinary opportunities for expanding heritage knowledge capabilities while boosting the research on innovative solutions for its valorisation and preservation. Being aware of the fundamental and strategic role of CH in the history and identity of the European countries, the European Commission has assumed a central role in fuelling the policy debate and putting together stakeholders to take a step forward in CH digitization and use, primarily through initiatives, programs, and recommendations. Within this framework, the ongoing European 5DCulture project (https://www.5dculture.eu/) has been funded to enrich the offer of 3D CH digital assets in the common European Data Space for Cultural Heritage by creating high-quality 3D contents and to foster their re-use in several sectors, from tourism to education. Through 8 re-use scenarios around historic buildings and cityscapes, archaeology, and fashion, the project aims to deliver a set of digital tools and increase the capacity of CH institutions to more effectively re-use their 3D digital assets.

The reduction of the human environmental footprint can be achieved through the use of more efficient motors, such as synchronous reluctance motors (SynRMs). Known for their affordability, SynRMs are increasingly employed in sensorless AC drives. This paper presents a critical comparison of sensorless algorithms based on two nonlinear Kalman Filters (Unscented and Extended). The objective is to highlight the theoretical and practical advantages and drawbacks of each method when applied to the speed control of a SynRM, culminating in a definitive decision on the best choice. The magnetic model of the SynRM is much more nonlinear than that of induction motors, which are predominantly addressed in existing literature. This study aims to fill the gap by answering the question: “Is the extended Kalman filter still the best choice even in the case of nonlinear electric motors?” The answer comes through a large batch of experiments, including speed and load torque tests, zero-speed standstill starts, parameter sensitivity, and evaluation of computational burdens for both Kalman filter algorithms.

Statistics - Methodology - Abstract
Logistic regression models for binomial responses are routinely used in statistical practice. However, the maximum likelihood estimate may not exist due to data separability. We address this issue by considering a conjugate prior penalty which always produces finite estimates. Such a specification has a clear Bayesian interpretation and enjoys several invariance properties, making it an appealing prior choice. We show that the proposed method leads to an accurate approximation of the reduced-bias approach of Firth (1993), resulting in estimators with smaller asymptotic bias than the maximum-likelihood and whose existence is always guaranteed. Moreover, the considered penalized likelihood can be expressed as a genuine likelihood, in which the original data are replaced with a collection of pseudo-counts. Hence, our approach may leverage well established and scalable algorithms for logistic regression. We compare our estimator with alternative reduced-bias methods, vastly improving their computational performance and achieving appealing inferential results.

Statistics - Applications ,Statistics - Methodology - Abstract
In ecology it has become common to apply DNA barcoding to biological samples leading to datasets containing a large number of nucleotide sequences. The focus is then on inferring the taxonomic placement of each of these sequences by leveraging on existing databases containing reference sequences having known taxa. This is highly challenging because i) sequencing is typically only available for a relatively small region of the genome due to cost considerations; ii) many of the sequences are from organisms that are either unknown to science or for which there are no reference sequences available. These issues can lead to substantial classification uncertainty, particularly in inferring new taxa. To address these challenges, we propose a new class of Bayesian nonparametric taxonomic classifiers, BayesANT, which use species sampling model priors to allow new taxa to be discovered at each taxonomic rank. Using a simple product multinomial likelihood with conjugate Dirichlet priors at the lowest rank, a highly efficient algorithm is developed to provide a probabilistic prediction of the taxa placement of each sequence at each rank. BayesANT is shown to have excellent performance in real data, including when many sequences in the test set belong to taxa unobserved in training.

teaching styles ,sport education ,competent instructor ,didactical success ,instructor’s empathy ,systems thinking ,Pediatrics ,RJ1-570 - Abstract
Background/Objectives: The concept of educational systems thinking shows the rugby educational system as a network of multiple interactive and interconnected elements. However, the frameworks presented in the literature for developing sports practice through an educational vision and multisport engagement do not always have direct transferability to instructors’ training courses. The study aims to evaluate the correlation between rugby instructors’ methodological and didactical competencies and compare them with children’s motor competence and psychological aspects. Methods: Two hundred twenty children (9.6 ± 1.1 years) and 50 instructors (39.0 ± 13.6 years) were enrolled. Instructors’ competencies were investigated during the internship through evaluation sheets, questionnaires, and video analysis. Children’s motor competence and psychological aspects were investigated through motor tests, questionnaires, and video analysis. Results: The correlation between methodological competencies and didactical-communicative competencies showed a positive significance, especially regarding production styles. Motor competence and play skills in children showed poor results. The group of instructors with more methodological competencies (a greater number of teaching styles used) showed a strong correlation between motor competence and psychological aspects. Conclusions: For successful teaching, knowledge of specific technical skills is not enough, and it is important to consider all the factors (in particular, the teaching-communicative and methodological skills) that contribute most to instructors’ skills.

Medicine - Abstract
Introduction In children, respiratory distress due to upper airway obstruction (UAO) is a common complication of extubation. The quantitative cuff-leak test (qtCLT) is a simple, rapid and non-invasive test that has not been extensively studied in children. The objective of the ongoing study whose protocol is reported here is to investigate how well the qtCLT predicts UAO-related postextubation respiratory distress in paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) patients. Methods and analysis Air Leak Test in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit is a multicentre, prospective, observational study that will recruit 900 patients who are aged 2 days post-term to 17 years and ventilated through a cuffed endotracheal tube for at least 24 hours in any of 19 French PICUs. Within an hour of planned extubation, the qtCLT will be performed as a sequence of six measurements of the tidal volume with the cuff inflated then deflated. The primary outcome is the occurrence within 48 hours after extubation of severe UAO defined as combining a requirement for intravenous corticosteroid therapy and/or ventilator support by high-flow nasal cannula and/or by non-invasive ventilation or repeat invasive mechanical ventilation with a Westley score ≥4 with at least one point for stridor at each initiation. The results of the study are expected to identify risk factors for UAO-related postextubation respiratory distress and extubation failure, thereby identifying patient subgroups most likely to require preventive interventions. It will also determine whether qtCLT appears to be a reliable method to predict an increased risk for postextubation adverse events as severe UAO.Ethics and dissemination The study was approved by the Robert Debré University Hospital institutional review board (IRB) on September 2021 (approval #2021578). The report of Robert Debré University Hospital IRB is valid for all sites, given the nature of the study with respect to the French law. The results will be submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.Trial registration number NCT05328206.

Laser experiments are becoming established as a new tool for astronomical research that complements observations and theoretical modeling. Localized strong magnetic fields have been observed at a shock front of supernova explosions. Experimental confirmation and identification of the physical mechanism for this observation are of great importance in understanding the evolution of the interstellar medium. However, it has been challenging to treat the interaction between hydrodynamic instabilities and an ambient magnetic field in the laboratory. Here, we developed an experimental platform to examine magnetized Richtmyer-Meshkov instability (RMI). The measured growth velocity was consistent with the linear theory, and the magnetic-field amplification was correlated with RMI growth. Our experiment validated the turbulent amplification of magnetic fields associated with the shock-induced interfacial instability in astrophysical conditions for the first time. Experimental elucidation of fundamental processes in magnetized plasmas is generally essential in various situations such as fusion plasmas and planetary sciences., Comment: 17 pages, 12 figures, 3 tables, accepted for publication in PRE

The study aims to demonstrate that an effective solution can be implemented for modeling complex carbonate basins, in the situation of limited data availability. Considering the alternative modeling approaches under circumstances of data shortage is more significant knowing the vulnerability and effectiveness of these kinds of basins to drought and climate change conditions. In this regard, a hybrid approach that combines time series analysis and reservoir modeling is proposed to describe behavior in carbonate basins. Time series analysis estimates the contributing area and response time of the fractured carbonate system beyond the catchment's hydrographic boundaries. The results obtained align with previous literature-based field surveys. This information is then used to develop a conceptual reservoir system using the GEOframe modeling system. The model is validated using in situ discharge observations and Earth observations (EO) data on evapotranspiration and snow. Model reliability is assessed using traditional goodness of fit indicators, hydrological signatures, and a novel statistical method based on empirical conditional probability. This approach enables detailed analysis and investigation of water budget components in Mediterranean carbonate catchments, highlighting their response to significant precipitation deficits. Overall, our results demonstrate that flows from carbonate rock areas outside the hydrographic boundaries significantly impact the water budget of the upper Nera River. The storage capacity of the carbonate basin plays a crucial role in sustaining river discharge during drought years. In a single dry year, meteorological drought is considerably attenuated, while in subsequent dry years, it is slightly intensified. Multi-year droughts result in slower recovery due to the time required for precipitation to replenish the depleted storage that supported river discharge in previous dry years. This unique behavior makes these basins particularly vulnerable to the more severe and frequent drought episodes expected under future climate change.

ABSTRACTIntroduction Diabetic patients are at a higher risk of getting pneumococcal disease and are therefore recommended to get vaccinated. The aim of our systematic review is the retrieval and analysis of all available evidence on the effect of pneumococcal vaccination on the risk of hospitalization and death in adult patients with diabetes.Research design and methods MEDLINEand EMBASE were searched from inception until January 2023. We included all studies investigating whether pneumococcal vaccination reduces the risk of dying or being hospitalized in diabetic patients. The Newcastle-Ottawa scale was used to assess risk of bias. Results Only two studies, encompassing a total of 68,246 subjects, were considered eligible for inclusion and of high quality. In both studies polysaccharide pneumococcal vaccination was associated with a reduction of the risk of hospitalization or death in adult diabetic patients (aHR: 0.76 in one study, aOR: 0.97 in the other one). However, in neither of the two included studies the lower risk was statistically significant. Conclusions Further research is needed due to the potentially major clinical implications for diabetic patients. The results of this systematic review can serve as a foundation for future studies, indicating the importance of continuing research in this area to improve patient outcomes.

Tannins can be utilized to increase rumen undegradable protein (RUP) by their capacity to form complexes with diverse nutrients present in the feed. In that regard, high-performance ruminants demand elevated RUP levels. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of incorporating varying levels of tannin into three protein sources (cottonseed, peanut, and soybean meals) on ruminal kinetic parameters, ruminal fermentation, and intestinal digestibility. Thus, three in situ experiments were conducted to investigate the ruminal degradation kinetics, where Fraction A represents the soluble portion, Fraction B relates to the portion potentially degraded in the rumen, and kd denotes the degradation rate of Fraction B, for both dry matter (DM) and crude protein (CP) in the rumen. Additionally, the study assessed dry matter effective degradability (ED), rumen undegradable protein (RUP), and intestinal digestibility (ID). These experiments utilized three cannulated animals for the in situ incubations. Regarding cottonseed meal in terms of DM degradation kinetics, tannin inclusion had a quadratic effect on fraction A (p < 0.01), B (p = 0.10, trend), kd (p = 0.03), and ED (p < 0.01). Fraction A of CP had a cubic effect (p = 0.03), being greater for the control compared with the other treatments. The inclusion of tannin linearly increased RUP (p < 0.01). The RUP proportion increased 29, 33, and 45% when 20, 40, and 60 g/kg tannin were used, respectively, compared to the control. For peanut meal, the A fraction of protein and RUP responded quadratically as tannin was included in peanut meal (p < 0.01). However, tannin levels did not affect fraction B of protein and ID. Regarding soybean meal, fractions A and B of DM and ED had cubic effects (p < 0.01), being greater for the control compared with the other treatments, and responded quadratically as tannin increased. Also, tannin inclusion had a cubic effect on fractions A and B of protein, RUP, and ID (p < 0.01). The cubic behavior showed greater B fraction and ID and lower A fraction and RUP for the control compared other treatments (p < 0.01). Tannins offer a promising avenue for elevating RUP levels in diets featuring cottonseed and peanut meals. Nevertheless, no advantages were observed when treating soybean meal with tannin.

In recent years, the improvement of sensors and methodologies for 3D reality-based surveying has exponentially enhanced the possibility of creating digital replicas of the real world. LiDAR technologies and photogrammetry are currently standard approaches for collecting 3D geometric information of indoor and outdoor environments at different scales. This information can potentially be part of a broader processing workflow that, starting from 3D surveyed data and through Building Information Models (BIM) generation, leads to more complex analyses of buildings’ features and behavior (Figure 1). However, creating BIM models, especially of historic and heritage assets (HBIM), is still resource-intensive and time-consuming due to the manual efforts required for data creation and enrichment. Improve 3D data processing, interoperability, and the automation of the BIM generation process are some of the trending research topics, and benchmark datasets are extremely helpful in evaluating newly developed algorithms and methodologies for these scopes. This paper introduces the InCUBE dataset, resulting from the activities of the recently funded EU InCUBE project, focused on unlocking the EU building renovation through integrated strategies and processes for efficient built-environment management (including the use of innovative renewable energy technologies and digitalization). The set of data collects raw and processed data produced for the Italian demo site in the Santa Chiara district of Trento (Italy). The diversity of the shared data enables multiple possible uses, investigations and developments, and some of them are presented in this contribution.

Neural Radiance Field methods are innovative solutions to derive 3D data from a set of oriented images. This paper introduces new real and synthetic image datasets - called NeRFBK - specifically designed for testing and comparing NeRF-based 3D reconstruction algorithms. More and more reconstruction algorithms and techniques are available nowadays, raising the need to evaluate and compare the quality of derived 3D products currently used in various domains and applications. However, gathering diverse data with precise ground truth is challenging and may not encompass all relevant applications. The NeRFBK dataset addresses this issue by providing multi-scale, indoor and outdoor datasets with high-resolution images and videos and camera parameters for testing and comparing NeRF-based algorithms. This paper presents the design and creation of the NeRFBK set of data, various examples and application scenarios, and highlights its potential for advancing the field of 3D reconstruction.

ObjectiveTo investigate risk factors and subphenotypes associated with long term symptoms and outcomes after hospital admission for covid-19.DesignProspective, multicentre observational study.Setting93 hospitals in France.ParticipantsData from 2187 adults admitted to hospital with covid-19 in France between 1 February 2020 and 30 June 2021.Main outcome measuresPrimary endpoint was the total number of persistent symptoms at six months after hospital admission that were not present before admission. Outcomes examined at six months were persistent symptoms, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, six minute walk test distances, 36-Item Short Form Health Survey scores, and ability to resume previous professional activities and self-care. Secondary endpoints included vital status at six months, and results of standardised quality-of-life scores. Additionally, an unsupervised consensus clustering algorithm was used to identify subphenotypes based on the severity of hospital course received by patients.Results1109 (50.7%) of 2187 participants had at least one persistent symptom. Factors associated with an increased number of persistent symptoms were in-hospital supplemental oxygen (odds ratio 1.12, 95% confidence interval 1 to 1.24), no intensive care unit admission (1.15, 1.01 to 1.32), female sex (1.33, 1.22 to 1.45), gastrointestinal haemorrhage (1.51, 1.02 to 2.23), a thromboembolic event (1.66, 1.17 to 2.34), and congestive heart failure (1.76, 1.27 to 2.43). Three subphenotypes were identified: including patients with the least severe hospital course (based on ventilatory support requirements). Although Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale scores were within normal values for all groups, patients of intermediate severity and more comorbidities had a higher median Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale score than did the other subphenotypes. Patients in the subphenotype with most severe hospital course had worse short form-36 scores and were less able to resume their professional activity or care for themselves as before compared with other subphenotypes.ConclusionsPersistent symptoms after hospital admission were frequent, regardless of acute covid-19 severity. However, patients in more severe subphenotypes had a significantly worse functional status and were less likely to resume their professional activity or able to take care of themselves as before.Trial registrationNCT04262921.

Statistics - Methodology - Abstract
Multiple imputation (MI) is a popular method for dealing with missing values. One main advantage of MI is to separate the imputation phase and the analysis one. However, both are related since they are based on distribution assumptions that have to be consistent. This point is well known as congeniality. In this paper, we discuss congeniality for clustering on continuous data. First, we theoretically highlight how two joint modeling (JM) MI methods (JM-GL and JM-DP) are congenial with various clustering methods. Then, we propose a new fully conditional specification (FCS) MI method with the same theoretical properties as JM-GL. Finally, we extend this FCS MI method to account for more complex distributions. Based on an extensive simulation study, all MI methods are compared for various cluster analysis methods (k-means, k-medoids, mixture model, hierarchical clustering). This study highlights the partition accuracy is improved when the imputation model accounts for clustered individuals. From this point of view, standard MI methods ignoring such a structure should be avoided. JM-GL and JM-DP should be recommended when data are distributed according to a gaussian mixture model, while FCS methods outperform JM ones on more complex data.

Workplaces cause employees to adopt sedentary behaviors for most of their daytime, negatively impacting psychophysical health. A new office concept (UP150) was designed to reduce sedentary behaviors at work through architectural changes, proactive technologies, and wellness coaches (education to active lifestyles). The present study examined the effects of the UP150 concept, previously investigated in dedicated workspaces, with a 12-month longitudinal trial in a real worksite environment. Forty-eight desk workers comprised the experimental (EG) and control (CG) groups. All participants worked in the same working environment, having the UP150 features inserted in a usual working environment, but the CG was not allowed to interact with the UP150 specifics. During the experimental year, physical (physical activity, motor efficiency, and anthropometric features), clinical (metabolic parameters and cognitive-capacity-related parameters), and psychological (well-being and discomfort, job social and psychological perceptions, and perceived workload) features were assessed. The prolonged application of the UP150 procedure in a mixed working context for involvement in corporate policies positively affected EG workers’ physical (physical activity and motor efficiency increased, and body fat unchanged), clinical (blood glucose, insulin, and total cholesterol decreased; HDL increased), and psychological (well-being and social support raised; job demand and perceived workload lowered) parameters, confirming the previous studies.

Abstract Background Cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI) is frequent. While two network meta-analyses assessed the impact of pharmacological interventions to prevent CSA-AKI, none focused on non-pharmacological interventions. We aim to assess the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions to reduce the incidence of CSA-AKI. Methods We searched PubMed, Embase, Central and clinical trial registries from January 1, 2004 (first consensus definition of AKI) to July 1, 2023. Additionally, we conducted manual screening of abstracts of major anesthesia and intensive care conferences over the last 5 years and reference lists of relevant studies. We selected all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing a non-pharmacological intervention to reduce the incidence of CSA-AKI, without language restriction. We excluded RCTs of heart transplantation or involving a pediatric population. The primary outcome variable was CSA-AKI. Two reviewers independently identified trials, extracted data and assessed risk of bias. Random-effects meta-analyses were conducted to calculate risk ratios (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). We used the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation to assess the quality of evidence. Results We included 86 trials (25,855 patients) evaluating 10 non-pharmacological interventions to reduce the incidence of CSA-AKI. No intervention had high-quality evidence to reduce CSA-AKI. Two interventions were associated with a significant reduction in CSA-AKI incidence, with moderate quality of evidence: goal-directed perfusion (RR, 0.55 [95% CI 0.40–0.76], I 2 = 0%; P het = 0.44) and remote ischemic preconditioning (RR, 0.86 [0.78–0.95]; I 2 = 23%; P het = 0.07). Pulsatile flow during cardiopulmonary bypass was associated with a significant reduction in CSA-AKI incidence but with very low quality of evidence (RR = 0.69 [0.48; 0.99]; I 2 = 53%; P het

Abstract Background A comprehensive and agreed-upon definition of vaccine literacy (VL) could support the understanding of vaccination and help policy-makers and individuals make informed decisions about vaccines. Methods To shed some light on this debate and provide clarity, a scoping review was conducted to collect, summarize, and analyse available definitions of VL. Based on the findings of the scoping review, a new and comprehensive definition was proposed by a panel of experts. Results Fifty-three articles were included, and two of them appeared to be the milestones around which the other definitions were grouped. The new definition proposed by the panel of experts included not only the personal perspective, but also the community, population, and organizational perspectives. Moreover, due to the increasing complexity of the social context with respect to the ability to navigate, understand, and use information and services, the definition of organizational vaccine literacy and the attributes of a vaccine literate healthcare organization have been proposed. Conclusion The new definition can contribute to the overall paradigm of health literacy and its distinct component of vaccine literacy, possibly improving the implementation of public health strategies to allow vaccination to be understood as a social practice by the entire community. This study describes the conceptual foundations, the competencies, and the civic orientation to be considered when developing measurement tools devoted to assessing VL at the different levels and in different contexts.

Summary: Background: Although immunomodulators have established benefit against the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in general, it is uncertain whether such agents improve outcomes without increasing the risk of secondary infections in the specific subgroup of previously immunocompromised patients. We assessed the effect of immunomodulators on outcomes of immunocompromised patients hospitalized for COVID-19. Methods: The protocol was prospectively registered with PROSPERO (CRD42022335397). MEDLINE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and references of relevant articles were searched up to 01-06-2022. Authors of potentially eligible randomized controlled trials were contacted to provide data on immunocompromised patients randomized to immunomodulators vs control (i.e., placebo or standard-of-care). Findings: Eleven randomized controlled trials involving 397 immunocompromised patients hospitalized for COVID-19 were included. Ten trials had low risk of bias. There was no difference between immunocompromised patients randomized to immunomodulators vs control regarding mortality [30/182 (16.5%) vs 41/215 (19.1%); RR 0.93, 95% CI 0.61–1.41; p = 0.74], secondary infections (RR 1.00, 95% CI 0.64–1.58; p = 0.99) and change in World Health Organization ordinal scale from baseline to day 15 (weighed mean difference 0.27, 95% CI -0.09–0.63; p = 0.15). In subgroup analyses including only patients with hematologic malignancy, only trials with low risk of bias, only trials administering IL-6 inhibitors, or only trials administering immunosuppressants, there was no difference between comparators regarding mortality. Interpretation: Immunomodulators, compared to control, were not associated with harmful or beneficial outcomes, including mortality, secondary infections, and change in ordinal scale, when administered to immunocompromised patients hospitalized for COVID-19. We aim at modelling the appearance of distinct tags in a sequence of labelled objects. Common examples of this type of data include words in a corpus or distinct species in a sample. These sequential discoveries are often summarised via accumulation curves, which count the number of distinct entities observed in an increasingly large set of objects. We propose a novel Bayesian nonparametric method for species sampling modelling by directly specifying the probability of a new discovery, therefore allowing for flexible specifications. The asymptotic behavior and finite sample properties of such an approach are extensively studied. Interestingly, our enlarged class of sequential processes includes highly tractable special cases. We present a subclass of models characterized by appealing theoretical and computational properties. Moreover, due to strong connections with logistic regression models, the latter subclass can naturally account for covariates. We finally test our proposal on both synthetic and real data, with special emphasis on a large fungal biodiversity study in Finland.
