In this paper High Voltage Direct Current system based on Voltage Source Converter (VSC-HVDC) connecting large–scale Offshore Wind Farm (LSOWF) for gas station, is presented. The three level Neutral Point diode Clamped (NPC) converter is used in VSC-HVDC system to improve the power reliability and transmission capacity. Exploitation of a platform Oil and gas industry has been used in the last few years, two options to run its machines either using a gas turbine or to convert the energy from coast by submarine cables. This issue is solved using a cleaner and less expensive renewable energy, such as offshore wind turbine. However, efficiency and safe operation of the gas platform in case of defect or system disturbance should be solved. To achieve these objectives, Photovoltaic system is employed to ensure stable operation of sensible elements of the platform during fault. Furthermore, crowbar protection topology, instantaneous power and Adaline algorithms are also employed to solve the problem caused by positive DC fault and to control the offshore and onshore VSCs. MATLAB/SIMULINK is employed to demonstrate and validate of the proposed concept. The proposed scheme may enable optimal integration of highly distributed of LSOWF and demonstrate the good performance of VSC-HVDC.

In this paper enhanced control strategies for standalone microgrids based on solar photovoltaic systems (SVPAs) and diesel engine driven fixed speed synchronous generators, are presented. Single-phase d-q theory-based sliding mode controller for voltage source converter voltage source converter (VSC) is employed to mitigate harmonics, balance diesel generator (DG) current, and to inject the generated power by SVPA into local grid. To achieve fast dynamic response with zero steady-state error during transition, sliding mode controller for inner control loop is employed. To achieve maximum power point tracking (MPPT) from SVPA without using any MPPT method, a DC-DC buck boost converter supported by battery storage system is controlled using a new control strategy based on sliding mode control with boundary layer. In addition, modeling and detailed stability analysis are performed. The performance of the developed control strategies, are validate by simulation using MATLAB/Simulink and in real-time using hardware prototype.

In this paper, robust and simple control strategy is presented for power quality improvement of a grid connected renewable energy based the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) from solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind based permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) sources. A combination of MPPT control and active power control algorithms are applied to two level inverters for interfacing between PV-PMSG energy sources and the grid. For MPPT, dc-dc boost and AC-DC converters are used for PV system and wind turbine, respectively. Both these renewable sources are connected at the voltage source converter (VSC) to feed the grid. VSC is controlled for PQ improvement and AC grid voltage regulation. The developed control algorithms for a grid connected VSC based on modified synchronous reference frame (SRF), its use for desired power quality, minimize the total harmonic distortion (THD) and quick dc-link voltage regulation. The performance, effectiveness and the robustness of the hybrid system are validated using Matlab/Simulink. The proposed composite controller ensures rapid and desired control action without any adjustment during varying climate conditions and load variations.

In this paper, control and simulation of standalone microgrid (SMG) for mine site, are investigated. To achieve maximum power point tracking (MPPT) from wind turbines (WTs) and solar photovoltaic systems (SPVs), power signal feedback and perturbation and observation (P&O) method, are used. Three phase voltage source converter (VSC) with LCL filter is controlled to regulate AC voltage and improve its power quality at point of common coupling (PCC) using new active power control (APC) strategy based on proportional resonant controller (PRC) with anti-windup and active damping. For efficient and safe parallel operation with perfect synchronization of two diesel engine based generators (DGs) to the PCC, new control approach is developed. Performance of the proposed configuration and their control approaches, are validated using Matlab Simulink.

This paper proposes an application of synchronous reluctance generator (SyRG) for the diesel generator (DG) based standalone supply systems. This system is supported by a battery energy storage system (BESS) for the voltage control and load leveling. A diesel engine is used as a prime mover to drive SyRG and a three leg voltage source converter (VSC) is used as a static compensator (STATCOM). The system is designed such that the SyRG is loaded between 80–100% irrespective of the loading condition to achieve a high fuel efficiency of the DG set. Therefore, for a load higher than 100% of the generator rated capacity, the BESS supplies the required power to the loads. Moreover, for the load less than 80% of the rated generator capacity, the BESS starts charging with the excess generated power. The system is designed such that the STATCOM provides load leveling, harmonics elimination, voltage control and load balancing. A modified instantaneous symmetrical component theory (ISCT) based control algorithm is used for the control of proposed system.
