Ahmet Rıza Bey was an intellect and activist who guided Turkish modernization history through his ideas and political activities. His family also had significant roles in the high bureaucracy of the state. Ahmet Rıza Bey’s worldview was shaped by the modern philosophical movement of positivism, with the mottos of order and progress being key concepts in his ideas. The purpose of this article is to shed light on the intellectual background of Ahmet Rıza Bey’s early writings known as the Birinci Lâyiha [First Memorandum], Dil Akademisi Lâyihası [Language Academy Memorandum], and Mektub [Letter]. In this sense, no comparisons have yet been made between Ahmet Rıza Bey’s reports and those written by the Ottoman statesmen and intellectuals of the period. This article emphasizes the secular contexts of the topics Ahmet Rıza Bey addressed through a textual content analysis and literature review. These texts are unique examples in terms of being confined to the positivist doctrine in their ideological orientation. These texts were also conditioned to explain the rationale and method of an effort focused on saving the empire through education. His writings emphasized how reforms should be implemented gradually and within historical continuity by highlighting the importance of political and social stability. In this respect, he aimed to give public identities to the concepts symbolized as science, work, order, progress, morality, and education that shaped Turkish modernization history. Ahmet Rıza Bey’s early writings saw the concept of order as the focal point of reform proposals, with the concept of progress being a variable dependent on the concept of order. Therefore, Ahmet Rıza Bey had favored the continuation of the Ottoman monarchy over a radical regime change. He grounded his understanding of change not so much on the political level but on the establishment of a holistic and solidarity-based collective consciousness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Research processes are academic exercises very relative and almost null when it comes to the process of disseminating results. Precisely, in the Peruvian scenario, there is a relative conceptual perception between thesis, thesis report and the nature of the scientific article. The study uses the method of documentary inquiry considering the contribution of eight different modalities to the thesis report of Latin American universities and, at the same time, it uses the narrative-biographical method that collects the investigative experiences disclosed in articles by Roberto Koch, Luis Pasteur, Kohlberg, Vygotsky, Piaget, Freud, Newton, Faraday, Darwin, Freudenberger, Maslach, Miriam Diamon and George Broock. The sustained allows proposing the scientific article as an optional graduation requirement in undergraduate and postgraduate studies. The symbiosis of the documentary inquiry method with the narrative-biographical method allows assessing the origin and significance of the article as a means of scientific dissemination of important current theories that has not avoided the old scheme of introduction, methodology, results and discussion (IMRD) proposed by Koch and Pasteur. As a result, 25 attributes are considered that distinguish the scientific article from the thesis report, whose similarities and differences do not make them dependent, because each one is the representation with its own directionality. The Manuela and Beatriz cases were introduced in the Inter-American human rights system as strategic litigation to provoke an Inter-American Court of Human Rights ruling that would create abortion rights in El Salvador, one of the most prolife countries in the region. The American Convention on Human Rights, a regional treaty binding on most Latin American and Caribbean countries, contains no provision on abortion, or on sexual and reproductive rights. It does contain, however, in article 4(1) a recognition of the unborn child's right to life and to legal protection thereof: «Every person has the right to have his life respected. This right shall be protected by law and, in general, from the moment of conception. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his life». This paper analyzes arguments in the Beatriz Case, the ruling for which is still pending at the time of this writing, and the Manuela decision, issued in 2022, where the court gave the shocking and unprecedented order to create practical impunity for the crime of infanticide in national law. This research analyses the characteristics of a sample of social work reports issued at a social care centre in Spain. The research involved three assumptions: (1) drafting reports is a demanding task; (2) social workers are poorly trained in report writing; and (3) procedures for drafting reports are inadequate. The research involved two phases: (1) social workers (N = 8) were interviewed; (2) the content and writing style of 250 reports were analysed. We still know little about the psycho-organizational antecedents related to the prevention of acts of corruption in government. This empirical study examines the distinctive impact of two emotions with negative valence, fear and anger, as catalysts or inhibitors of whistleblowing among public employees. Through an experimental study with local government officials in Mexico, we show that people who experience anger are significantly more likely to report acts of corruption, especially when exposed to high-intensity stimuli. On the other hand, intense fear can powerfully inhibit whistleblowing. These findings provide relevant evidence of the impact of emotional cues on whistleblowing in the context of a government organization. Based on these results, we suggest that emotion management could be an effective tool to improve integrity levels in public bureaucracies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article summarizes the process of implementing the EU acquis into the national legislation of Ukraine, as well as the obligations undertaken within the framework of the Association Agreement. Thus, as part of the negotiation process, Ukraine’s commitments are grouped into six clusters, which in turn contain 34 chapters. It was found that 80 state authorities assessed the approximation of Ukrainian legislation to EU legislation (self-screening) within six months. According to the results of the inspection, several EU acts do not require implementation into Ukrainian legislation, some acts are subject to further full or partial incorporation, and some of the acts have already been fully implemented into Ukrainian legislation. It was also analysed that the largest number of EU acquis acts, which Ukraine has already fully incorporated into its legislation, relate to the sections «Customs Union», «Statistics», «External Relations», «Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Policy» and «Protection of Consumer Rights and Health Care». However, under such sections as «Transport Policy», «Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Policy», «Freedom of Movement of Goods», «Freedom of Entrepreneurship and Provision of Services» there is still work to be done in terms of the implementation of EU norms in the internal legislation of Ukraine. In addition, the article also defines the state of implementation of the EU acquis in Ukraine. In addition, the activities of government bodies during 2023 in the process of implementing EU legislation were also analysed. It was found that Ukraine also fulfilled all seven recommendations of the European Commission, which it received during the granting of candidate status. It was also determined that Ukraine, on its way to European integration, continues to fulfill its obligations under the Association Agreement. Euphemisms are words or linguistic expressions that are used instead of another word or expression, which we do not want to use or should not be used (e.g. ‘gojëlidhuri’ for "the wolf"; he left us instead of "died" etc.). So, euphemisms are usually called all those words and expressions that substitute the rude and improper words with lighter and softer words and expressions. We find such euphemistic words and expressions in Albanian and other languages, even German. We mainly encounter them in the vernacular, however, recently, due to their widespread use and the importance that they have in communication, they are increasingly becoming an important topic of semantic research, pragmatic linguistics and, in particular, of sociolinguistic researches, meanwhile, in some languages they have become the basic subject of lexicographical works. FitEx is an 8-week, group-based physical activity and fruit and vegetable consumption program co-created and implemented with the Cooperative Extension System. Effectiveness and delivery personnel perceptions of the program are promising; however, ongoing adaptations are required to continuously meet shifting needs of both researchers and delivery systems. We applied the APDER iterative cycles of implementation over 15 years to understand dynamic and ongoing adaptations as well as implications for FitEx sustainability. Each year, an IRPP between delivery (FitEx deliverers) and research (FitEx developers) systems shared feedback on program core elements and strategies for adaptation through regular team meetings, emails, and evaluations. While the core elements (delivering to groups, goal setting, feedback, and self-monitoring) of FitEx remained consistent, changes were made to address logistical factors, emergent research questions, and technological advancements. For example, program deliverers suggested decreasing training time and making program content available on demand rather than through traditional in-person training. Using APDER with a long-standing IRPP allowed the delivery system to provide feedback to program developers to co-create ongoing adaptations and data-driven decisions. Future work in response to shifting needs includes Fitbit integration and technological updates to the usability of the FitEx platform. Our aim is to report the 15+ years of applying the Assess, Plan, Do, Evaluate, Report (APDER) process with an integrated research–practice partnership (IRPP) for co-creation of ongoing adaptations of FitEx and to share methods for capturing relevant data for decision-making to integrate health promotion programs in community settings. Key Clinical Message: Pilomatricoma is a benign proliferative lesion of skin appendages that often affects the head, upper limbs, and lower limbs. The clinical appearance of the lesions is that of asymptomatic nodules measuring less than 3 cm. pathologically, these skin lesions show the presence of basaloid cell islands, eosinophilic cytoplasmic cells without nuclei, as well as hemorrhage and calcification. In this study, we present the case of an 8‐year‐old girl with a 5 × 5 cm skin lesion on the forearm, which lacked the typical firmness associated with pilomatricoma lesions during examination. After biopsy, the lesion was confirmed to be pilomatricoma. Furthermore, we have reviewed studies documenting pilomatricoma lesions with atypical clinical features. Based on reports of different clinical manifestations of pilomatricoma in these studies, we suggest that the clinical diagnosis of pilomatricoma should not be limited to the typical presentation of these lesions. In cases where the lesions exceed 3 cm in size, display cystic characteristics, are painful, or resemble keloids, consideration should also be given to the possibility of pilomatricoma. Abstract Objectives: evaluate the association between the maternal near miss rate (TNMM) and sociodemographic and health care factors. Methods: this is an aggregated, cross- sectional epidemiological survey, with regression analysis and spatial analysis, with the units of analysis being the 399 municipalities that make up the four health macro- regions in the state of Paraná, Brazil. Data from the years 2018 to 2021 were obtained through the state maternal near miss report and monitoring system. Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common and heritable neurodevelopmental disorders which may last through the life-span. A consensus report on diagnosis and management of ADHD among Turkish youth was prepared previously. However, the participants as well as the management options were rather limited and developments in the past decade necessitated a revision and update of the consensus. Therefore, this review aims to summarize the consensus among Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists from Türkiye on the nature and management of pediatric ADHD. For those aims, the etiology of ADHD, diagnostic and evaluation process, epidemiology, developmental presentations, differential diagnoses and comorbidities, course/outcome and pharmacological as well as non-pharmacological management options were reviewed and suggestions for clinical practice are presented. Since ADHD is a chronic disorder with wide-ranging effects on functionality that is frequently accompanied by other mental disorders, a multidimensional therapeutic approach is recommended. However, since the disorder has neurobiological basis, pharmacotherapy represents the mainstay of treatment. Additional therapies may include psychosocial therapy, behavioral therapy, school-based therapeutic approaches, and family education. This review provides recommendations for ADHD at the national and global levels. It contains information about ADHD that will contribute to and facilitate clinicians’ decision-making processes. It is advisable to consider this guideline in clinical practice.

This article examines the report as a new type of document in the business writing system of the first half of the 18th century. The aim is to identify common and distinctive features of reports from various institutions in the southern region of Russia. The materials used for this study are documents from the Don Army (State Archive of the Volgograd Region) and the Astrakhan Province (National Archive of the Republic of Kalmykia). Through a comparative analysis of their content, functions, and speech organization, it is revealed that all reports were submitted from subordinate subjects to superiors, served informative purposes, and occasionally served as accompanying documents. They shared a similar form (addressee, addresser, title, main text, date, place of creation), although there were variations in the placement of requisites, document titles, and addresser formulas. Differences were also identified, such as the larger number of reports in the documentation of the Don Army and their frequent use as accompanying documents, while Astrakhan reports often contained financial reports. In Don reports, the addresser was referred to in the final formula as “about this report,” while Astrakhan reports only included their name (or signature). It can be concluded that reports were increasingly integrated into official communication, becoming firmly established in the military sphere, and their form became more standardized, reflecting the development of common rules for document management.

Abstract Background Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is an important diagnostic test for bone mass status. The aim of this work was to set the standards for structured reporting of DXA measurements in adults within the context of fracture and fall risk assessment. Results Two rounds of Delphi were completed. The first Delphi round had a 68% response rate, while round two had a 100% response rate. After round 2, a total of 28 items were obtained, which were classified into three domains. The percentage of people who agreed with the recommendations (ranks 9–7) ranged from 76.5 to 100%. The wording of all 19 clinical standards determined by the scientific committee was agreed upon (i.e., 75% of respondents strongly agreed or agreed). Conclusion The DXA scan report is an independent document that contains sufficient information to enable optimal osteoporosis management advised by an experienced healthcare professional. Setting up quality standards for DXA scans not only supports healthcare professionals reporting/interpreting bone densitometry but also meets the parameters outlined in national as well as international guidelines or recommendations for the optimal management of osteoporosis and subsequent prevention of low trauma fractures.

Splenic infarction is a medical condition characterized by compromised blood flow to the spleen, resulting in partial or complete organ infarction. This condition is commonly observed in patients with an increased risk of thrombosis, such as those with Polycythemia Vera (PV).A 40-year-old female patient presented with fatigue, weakness, and an enlarged spleen, further tests revealed elevated levels of hemoglobin, white blood cells, and platelets. A bone marrow biopsy and positive Jack II mutations confirmed the diagnosis of PV. The patient later developed portal hypertension, varices, and splenic infarction.This case report aims to raise awareness about the potential complications of PV and emphasizes the importance of early intervention to prevent serious consequences such as splenic infarction. Additionally, it highlights the role of splenectomy in managing complications associated with PV.

The Authors presented accounts of two trips under the international Erasmus+ programme. One was a Staff Week for librarians organized at the libraries of the University of Algarve in Faro, Portugal, held on 20-24 June 2022. The other was a study trip to selected units of the university library system at Sassari, Italy. Both events provided an excellent opportunity for librarians from Europe, representing libraries of different types and with different characteristics, to share their experiences. In addition, they made it possible to network and get inspired by solutions used in other libraries. The accounts were supplemented with the Authors' observations and conclusions about participation in the programme.

(1) Background: Although MRI is a well-established tool in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) diagnosis and management, neuroradiological reports often lack standardization and/or quantitative information, with possible consequences in clinical care. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of information provided by neuroradiological reports and different reporting systems on the clinical management of MS patients. (2) Methods: An online questionnaire was proposed to neurologists working in Italian tertiary care level MS centers. Questions assessed the impact of different MRI-derived biomarkers on clinical choices, the preferred way of receiving radiological information, and the neurologists’ opinions about different reporting systems and the use of automated software in clinical practice. (3) Results: The online survey was completed by 62 neurologists. New/enlarging (100%) lesions, the global T2w/FLAIR lesion load (96.8%), and contrast-enhancing (95.2%) lesions were considered the most important biomarkers for therapeutic decision, while new/enlarging lesions (98.4%), global T2w/FLAIR lesion load (96.8%), and cerebral atrophy (90.3%) were relevant to prognostic evaluations. Almost all participants (98.4%) considered software for medical imaging quantification helpful in clinical management, mostly in relation to prognostic evaluations. (4) Conclusions: These data highlight the impact of providing accurate and reliable data in neuroradiological reports. The use of software for medical imaging quantification in MS can be helpful to standardize radiological reports and to provide useful clinical information to neurologists.

Existing research on the influence of motivation on an honest budget has overlooked the roles of certain dark personality traits, management control, and perceived fairness. This study aims to explore the moderating role of Machiavellianism, management control, and fairness in the relationship between internal and external motivation and honest budget reports. This paper comprised two experiments that evaluated the main effect of motivation and moderator effects of the above factors. The first experiment involved 72 graduate students from various Indonesian universities studying accounting or financial management, and the second experiment included 261 undergraduate students from similar fields. Participants were divided into internal and external motivation groups, further randomized into fairness and management control groups, creating eight distinct groups. Each group received a specific scenario corresponding to their allocated group. The results demonstrated that internal motivation had a stronger influence on honest reporting than external motivation (F (1, 257) = 60.36, p < 0.001). However, Machiavellianism weakened this relationship (F (3, 257) = 6.24, p < 0.05). Under complete management control and perceived fairness scenarios, individuals driven by internal motivation reported budget more honestly compared to those with external motivation group under basic management control and perceived unfairness scenarios (F (4, 253) = 4.95, p < 0.001). This analysis contributes to understanding honest budget reports by distinguishing between internal and external motivations and recognizing the moderating roles of Machiavellianism, management control, and fairness. These insights could help organizations design effective budgeting systems and control mechanisms to reduce budgetary slack and improve performance.

Introduction. Social Listening is a suitable tool used in monitoring and controlling the info-demic, a phenomenon that has exacerbated the global public health crisis generated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the study. Digital monitoring of public perceptions of the COVID-19 in the Republic of Moldova, evaluating the temporal sequence of message content on social media to understand and inform decision-makers on the necessary actions based on needs/prob-lems. Material and methods. The Talkwalker software, developed for marketing research, has been adapted to the study objective by creating a search syntax for COVID-19. The taxonomy for COVID-19 conversations developed and validated by Purnat et al. was taken into account. Results. Between 01.01-30.11.2022, 18000 results were shared. Interest is expressed through a downward fluctuating curve, the highest audience engagement rate being generated by the Unica.md post regarding the French authorities' decision to waive restrictions (2400 shares, over 155 thousand likes, 521 comments). The aggregate sentiment of netizens is predominantly neutral and negative, dominated by anger and fear. Conclusions. It is observed that the population shows distrust regarding the reality of the pandemic, being reserved towards actions taken by authorities to counter the pandemic, and/or conspiratorial beliefs, which indicate the presence of falsehoods in social media and the need for targeted responses from authorities to increase the population’s resistance to misinformation.

Abstract Background Suicide is a serious public health problems worldwide. Although suicide rates in the eastern Medetranian region are lower than western countries, increasing incidences is reported. This study aims to explore the demographic, clinical characteristics, and associated variables of people died by suicide in Iraq through a limited retrospective sample symbolized as biopsy. Methods The retrospective analysis included the electronic records of a hundred cases of suicide saved in the archives of the Medico-Legal Directory in Baghdad. Data were extracted from the legal investigation which included police investigations, family reports, and post-mortem reports. Simple descriptive satstistical analyses of the selected data was conducted. Results It estimated through this study that the crude rate of suicide was 1.75 per 100,000 population which is higher than 1.09/10,000, previously reported by the Iraq national study of suicide 2016. Most cases occurred in ≤ 29 years old, Muslims, city dwellers, and middle-class people aged 29 years or less. The prevalence of suicide was significantly associated with unemployment, good education, and income. The most common methods used were self-burning, gunshot, hanging, and jumping from heights. The reason for taking their own life was unknown for half of the sample. Depression was relatively common, while other mental disorders were of low rate or unrecognized. Family conflicts and environmental stressors were considered as motives. Conclusions This study exemplifies suicide patterns where young age, female gender, and violent methods are represented more than before, reflecting the impact of environmental and personal stressors and may be related to violence and the post-conflict situation initiated by the 2003 war. Little is known about suicide architecture due to stigma and poor surveillance system. A multidisciplinary suicide prevention strategy is crucial to implement in Iraq’s health service. Large-scale studies are called to cover the data gap.

The article is devoted to military and political events in the Far East on the eve and at the beginning of World War II, namely, German-Japanese relations. The rapprochement of Germany and Japan during this period had a serious geopolitical reason, which consisted in the attitude of both countries towards the Soviet Union. It was a common military and political goal for both Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. The presence of such an external enemy led to the creation of a German-Japanese military-political alliance, which, however, could not overcome the geographical remoteness of both countries, as well as the partners’ wary attitude towards mutual ambitions in the Asia Pacific region. A huge role in the development of military-political relations between Germany and Japan was played by their military diplomats operating in Tokyo and Berlin. Military-political cooperation between the two countries did not stop until April 1945 and was represented not only by the conclusion of bilateral agreements, contacts with the top leadership of Germany and Japan, and the exchange of intelligence information, but also by the organization of delivery of military supplies, which, however, did not have any real significance. Central to the article is the analysis of reports of German military attachés accredited to the German embassy in Tokyo. These documents are deposited in the captured archival funds, which are stored in the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. Most of these documents are reviews of military operations during the Sino-Japanese War, as well as data on the armed forces of Japan and the army of the central government of China (Kuomintang). Some of the materials contain intelligence information about the Red Army and the Soviet military forces in the Far East. The Authors did not set themselves the goal of recreating the full picture of military-political cooperation between Germany and Japan in the pre-war period and during the Second World War, but rather limited themselves to analyzing the reflection of this topic in the reports of German military attachés from Tokyo.

Scientific studies of perception use motoric reports as the principal means of communicating subjective experience. In such experiments, a widely held and implicit assumption is that the motor action conveys but does not tamper with perceptual experience. We tested nine observers on a luminance detection task in a cross-over repeated measures design. In separate conditions, observers reported their detection via movements of either their hands or eyes. We found only anecdotal evidence for any modality-dependent effect on psychophysical sensitivity. We also reanalyzed an existing dataset from which deployed a similar detection paradigm involving hand and eye reports. In the four paradigm variants tested, we again only found anecdotal evidence for the effect of report modality on psychophysical sensitivity. Both studies reported here provide only anecdotal evidence; thus, whether we can replicate report-dependent perceptual effects still needs to be resolved. We argue why this remains an important question for consciousness research and why it deserves more rigorous and high-powered replication attempts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: King et al. (2022) developed an audit tool, listing standards against which individuals and services can benchmark their neuropsychological assessment practice. Our adult neuropsychology outpatient service in Stoke-on-Trent, utilised the tool to assess our current practice, and to assess the impact of completing the audit over two time-points, 18 months apart. Method: All service users assessed by us within a sample month were included in the retrospective clinical audits: N=22 at time-point 1 (July 2020) and N=17 at time-point 2 (February 2022). The yes/no tick list was completed for each core and supplementary standard, for each assessment. Percentage compliance was calculated for each standard, to benchmark practice and appraise changes over time. Results: All service users gave verbal consent for their data to be used for research purposes. The service largely scored 100% compliance on most standards at both time-points, with improvements observed in seven standards between the two audits, and some areas of reduced standard compliance over time, prompting further discussion about different report styles for different contexts. Conclusion and Recommendations: Our service has discussed the audit results and are planning to improve our practice in terms of report length, waiting times for feedback sessions, use of performance validity tests and provision of service leaflets. Objectives: To investigate how a transition from free text to structured reporting affects reporting language with regard to standardization and distinguishability. Methods: A total of 747,393 radiology reports dictated between January 2011 and June 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The body and cardiothoracic imaging divisions introduced a reporting concept using standardized language and structured reporting templates in January 2016. Reports were segmented by a natural language processing algorithm and converted into a 20-dimension document vector. For analysis, dimensionality was reduced to a 2D visualization with t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding and matched with metadata. Linguistic standardization was assessed by comparing distinct report types' vector spreads (e.g., run-off MR angiography) between reporting standards. Changes in report type distinguishability (e.g., CT abdomen/pelvis vs. MR abdomen) were measured by comparing the distance between their centroids. Results: Structured reports showed lower document vector spread (thus higher linguistic similarity) compared with free-text reports overall (21.9 [free-text] vs. 15.9 [structured]; − 27.4%; p < 0.001) and for most report types, e.g., run-off MR angiography (15.2 vs. 1.8; − 88.2%; p < 0.001) or double-rule-out CT (26.8 vs. 10.0; − 62.7%; p < 0.001). No changes were observed for reports continued to be written in free text, e.g., CT head reports (33.2 vs. 33.1; − 0.3%; p = 1). Distances between the report types' centroids increased with structured reporting (thus better linguistic distinguishability) overall (27.3 vs. 54.4; + 99.3 ± 98.4%) and for specific report types, e.g., CT abdomen/pelvis vs. MR abdomen (13.7 vs. 37.2; + 171.5%). Conclusion: Structured reporting and the use of factual language yield more homogenous and standardized radiology reports on a linguistic level, tailored to specific reporting scenarios and imaging studies. Clinical relevance: Information transmission to referring physicians, as well as automated report assessment and content extraction in big data analyses, may benefit from standardized reporting, due to consistent report organization and terminology used for pathologies and normal findings. Background: Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is an important diagnostic test for bone mass status. The aim of this work was to set the standards for structured reporting of DXA measurements in adults within the context of fracture and fall risk assessment. Results: Two rounds of Delphi were completed. The first Delphi round had a 68% response rate, while round two had a 100% response rate. After round 2, a total of 28 items were obtained, which were classified into three domains. The percentage of people who agreed with the recommendations (ranks 9–7) ranged from 76.5 to 100%. The wording of all 19 clinical standards determined by the scientific committee was agreed upon (i.e., 75% of respondents strongly agreed or agreed). Conclusion: The DXA scan report is an independent document that contains sufficient information to enable optimal osteoporosis management advised by an experienced healthcare professional. Setting up quality standards for DXA scans not only supports healthcare professionals reporting/interpreting bone densitometry but also meets the parameters outlined in national as well as international guidelines or recommendations for the optimal management of osteoporosis and subsequent prevention of low trauma fractures. Objectives: We used an in-depth qualitative approach to investigate the factors that contribute to medication error (ME) reporting among emergency department (ED) clinicians. More specifically, we explored the explanatory factors relating to underreporting by the different staff involved in ED medication management, the underlying processes involved in clinician and manager responses to MEs, and programmatic factors that impede and facilitate ME reporting. Methods: We applied a purposive maximum variation sampling to recruit interview participants in nursing, medical, and pharmacy roles. We conducted semistructured interviews based on an interview guide. We performed a thematic analysis of all data and developed a general content model. Results: The developed model shows how the series of extracted themes—norms of reporting, reporting culture, and evaluation and feedback—affect one another. The theme norms of reporting were mainly influenced by clinicians' knowledge and attitudes. The theme of reporting culture directly affected ME reporting. Evaluation and feedback affected all factors that contributed to ME reporting. Participants' intention to report was mainly affected by the extent to which the reporting led to an obvious outcome. Conclusions: The comprehensive model of ME reporting provides guidance for healthcare leaders who strive to increase such reporting. The model encompasses broad concepts that are not limited to ME reporting and may be applicable to improving reporting for all kinds of medical errors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Facilitated by technological advances in cameras, printing methods and equipment, photojournalism blossomed throughout the world during the interwar period. It offered readers insights into the contemporary world, providing access to diverse peoples and remote locations through a combination of photographs and text. Japan was no exception. However, unlike Europe or North America, where the primary medium for disseminating knowledge through images was photo magazines or newspapers, in interwar Japan it was mass-market women's magazines that popularised the practice of using images to convey information within society. This paper specifically examines representations seen in a particular photo-article genre known as the "life pictorial", published in the best-selling women's magazine Shufu no tomo ("Housewife's Friend"). The analysis of these articles demonstrates how they contributed to the circulation of an imagined geography in 1930s Japanese society by presenting an image of a utopian multicultural Japanese empire that covertly intimated a distinct social, ethnic and racial hierarchy. Furthermore, this analysis explores how the magazine guided and shaped its readers' visual literacy by training them in how to "read" these photo articles, in a time before state censorship became fully entrenched. Gingival recession (GR) is considered a public health problem which is highly prevalent across different populations. Accuracy of psychometric properties of prevalence estimates of GR reported in epidemiological studies is important to facilitate setting public health goals, planning of public health programs, implementation of best practices and thereby developing public health policy. However, the reported prevalence estimates are influenced by the methodological variations among different studies, as observed in our recently published systematic review and meta-analysis on the global prevalence of GR. It substantially limits the comparability between studies and inferences about the true global variation in the prevalence of GR are difficult to establish. To address these issues, this commentary suggests to follow the standardized principles related to study design, clinical examination protocol, and characteristics of study subjects in future epidemiological studies on prevalence estimates of GR. Furthermore, the inclusion of additional domains in the reporting data is suggested for a deeper insight into the patterns of GR in different populations. Our suggestions are derived from a pragmatic approach and their consistent implementation would improve the reporting quality and achieve uniformity in future studies, thus benefitting the research in this area.
