Aim. To investigate opinions and points of view about the importance and development of the handball game at the regional level. Method. To achieve the proposed goal, we organized a focus group consisting of handball coaches, players, and sports specialists. They received an online questionnaire, which aims to investigate opinions and points of view regarding the importance and development of the handball game at the regional level. The questionnaire was composed of 10 questions with multiple answers. 102 focus group participants responded to this questionnaire Results. The results of the questionnaire indicate that 40 percent of participants agree that motor skills are most important for identifying and developing young handball players. Handball has a strong educational and cultural role in developing skills such as collaboration, respect, team spirit, fair play, education, or emulation. Handball within schools, seen from a co-educational angle, should be approached with an eye to its predisposition for the development of social and civic skills. In order to develop and improve the athletes' performance, it is necessary to organise excellent handball centres where the centralised training of the best handball players and coaches can be carried out. Conclusions. Handball is a sport whose presence in the school curriculum, along with other team sports such as football, basketball, or volleyball, is very important. The results of the questionnaire confirm this: all participants answered affirmatively. The game of handball is based on a harmonious combination of motor and cognitive skills at the same time, the game takes place on a background of intense mental demands, which have a pronounced formativeeducational role. The existing gap between the different countries in handball is mainly due to a gap in the training level of the coaches, which consequently determines a low level of local development. The worldwide popularisation of running as a sport and recreational practice has led to a high rate of musculoskeletal injuries, usually caused by a lack of knowledge about the most suitable running technique for each runner. This running technique is determined by a runner's anthropometric body characteristics, dexterity and skill. Therefore, this study aims to develop a motion capture-based running analysis test on a treadmill called KeepRunning to obtain running patterns rapidly, which will aid coaches and clinicians in assessing changes in running technique considering changes in the study variables. Therefore, a review and proposal of the most representative events and variables of analysis in running was conducted to develop the KeepRunning test. Likewise, the minimal detectable change (MDC) in these variables was obtained using test–retest reliability to demonstrate the reproducibility and viability of the test, as well as the use of MDC as a threshold for future assessments. The test–retest consisted of 32 healthy volunteer athletes with a running training routine of at least 15 km per week repeating the test twice. In each test, clusters of markers were placed on the runners' body segments using elastic bands and the volunteers' movements were captured while running on a treadmill. In this study, reproducibility was defined by the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and MDC, obtaining a mean value of ICC = 0.94 ± 0.05 for all variables and MDC = 2.73 ± 1.16° for the angular kinematic variables. The results obtained in the test–retest reveal that the reproducibility of the test was similar or better than that found in the literature. KeepRunning is a running analysis test that provides data from the involved body segments rapidly and easily interpretable. This data allows clinicians and coaches to objectively provide indications for runners to improve their running technique and avoid possible injury. This article presents the findings of a study on basketball-related eye injuries in the United States from 2012 to 2021. The study utilized data from emergency departments across the country and found that basketball-related eye injuries make up a significant portion of sports and recreational eye injuries in the US. The majority of cases involved males and children under 18 years old, with corneal abrasions being the most common type of injury. Contact with another player was the primary cause of injury. The study also observed a decrease in the number of emergency department visits for basketball-related eye injuries during the study period, potentially due to decreased sports participation during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study suggests that eye protection could help prevent these injuries, but there are currently no requirements for eye protection in US basketball. Introduction: Engaging in sports is crucial for maintaining and enhancing the health of both children and adults. However, it can also be a cause of injuries with temporary or permanent consequences. The primary causes of sports injuries are mechanical forces acting during intense physical exertion. A significant number of sports injuries involve the stomatognathic system, often occurring suddenly and unexpectedly, accompanied by pain and bleeding. The complexity of injuries depends on the type of sport, the athlete's age, and the force's strength, leading to serious aesthetic, functional, psychological, and economic consequences for the injured. Purpose of the study: The purpose of the study is to highlight the significant role of sports in physical and mental health, while also addressing potential injuries that may occur during sports activities, with a particular focus on dental and surrounding tissue injuries. The study emphasizes the importance of preventing traumatic and non-traumatic damage to dental tissues and surrounding structures through the mandatory use of sports mouthguards. Methods: This review article focuses on enriching knowledge about dental traumas caused by sports injuries, their prevention, and trends in the therapy of dentoalveolar traumas. Results: In this work, the authors aimed to briefly summarize, analyze, and present the latest available information from contemporary literature dealing with dentoalveolar traumas, including their causes, diagnosis, and treatment, while emphasizing the importance of prevention. Conclusion: Sports injuries, with a specific emphasis on injuries to the stomatognathic system, whether occurring in recreational or competitive sports, require a serious approach in terms of prevention, diagnosis, and therapy. The education of sports professionals, coaches, sports doctors, parents, and athletes themselves on providing first aid for the occurrence of dentoalveolar traumas is of great importance. In this article we describe the Books 2 Basketball (B2B) program created by a school counselor for Black youth along with some preliminary outcomes examined after its implementation. This program was not evaluated for effectiveness but to determine if the program was feasible and to share feedback from some of the participants. The B2B program is facilitated after-school and geared toward exposing Black youth to college preparatory dialogue using the development of basketball and academic skills. The overarching goal of this program is to promote students' potential for academic success, which enhances post-secondary options, by teaching children basic basketball and basic arithmetic/mathematical skills (i.e., how to calculate fractions, percentages, decimals, and ratios). The feedback from the student participants provides implications for the use of sport and recreation-related programs to promote their learning, career development, and physical health. The ongoing study of factors that hinder physical activity (PA) supports the adaptation of intervention strategies to changing conditions and the creation of a more conducive environment for active lifestyles. The aim of the study was to analyze the barriers to Polish participation in sports and recreational activities (SRA) before and after the pandemic. Face-to-face interviews were conducted twice with a representative sample of Poles (in 2016 N=12183 household members, in 2021 N=8351). Descriptive statistical analysis was conducted using frequency and relative frequency (%). A Chi-square test of independence was used to analyze relationships between perceived barriers of non-participation in sports or physical recreation in 2016 and 2021 and the gender and age of respondents. In 2021, 38.8% (36.7% of women and 41.0% of men) declared participation in SRA (regularly or occasionally), with a 7.6 % point decrease in the number of those active compared to 2016. 20.6% of respondents participated in sports and recreation regularly in 2021. Compared to 2016, (21.7%) the difference was not statistically significant. Men declared regular participation more often than women (23.1% vs. 18.1% – 2021). Four main barriers were identified: (1) lack of free time – especially among 30 to 39-year-olds, 40 to 49-year-olds and men; (2) lack of interest, willingness or preference for passive leisure activities – especially among 15 to 19-year-olds; (3) having a medical condition and doctor's contraindications – among 50 to 59-year-olds and 60 and older; and (4) age – especially among 60-year-olds. These barriers have not been overcome over time, and persisted or even gained in importance during the COVID-19 pandemic in addition to medical condition and doctor's contraindications. We therefore turn our attention to eliminating these barriers, taking into account their importance in specific populations. In what amounts to essentially being a part two to our previous work with six beginner-coaches that found noticeable benefits to reflective practice, yet a number of possible drawbacks such as time constraints and at times over-focusing on negative emotions (Hamblin & Crisp, 2022), we build upon the aims of that study that related to what beginner-coaches (in recreational sport fields) considered ideal coach learning within in-situ, practice-based contexts. Through revisiting the data of the first study (Hamblin & Crisp, 2022) and exploring an additional theme related to how the beginner-coaches identified sporting experience as a beneficial prerequisite to their own coaching practice, the present study sought to further investigate, and build upon, the findings and aspects of the first study. Continuing to explore how beginner-coaches who operate more within recreational (although still competitive) sport fields perceive in-situ, ideal learning, and continuing the same methodological approach, the present study conducted semi-structured interviews with another five beginner-coaches, adding to the six in the first study for a total of 11 participants. Transcriptions were analysed using thematic analysis and the themes found included sporting experience, traditional learning, and the benefits of reflective practice which highlights the ways all of the beginner-coaches (within both 'part one' and the present study – 'part two') felt they learn best. Importantly, these findings showed the self-reported importance of actually coaching ('real world' applications) and, of particular note, what were considered by the beginner-coaches to be the significant benefits of having accrued playing experience prior to starting coaching. Campus recreational sport programs strive to create an environment that is accessible to diverse participants, including LGBTQ population groups. While improvement has been made in promoting resources and workgroups related to diversity management practices, little empirical evidence exists as it relates to the efficacy of diversity trainings for recreational sport employees. This study analyzed the impact of a diversity training program geared toward the development of affirming recreational sport practices for LGBTQ populations and exploring the professional competencies related to LGBTQ inclusion that are practiced within in a collegiate recreational sport setting. Results indicated that the targeted training initiative was effective in statistically improving employee confidence as it relates to LGBTQ professional competencies (p <.000), while nonattendance at the training showed no statistically significant differences in such competencies. This study serves as a starting point for investigating the impact of LGBTQ-specific diversity training programs on recreational sport staff members. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Topics include the evolution from sustenance fishing to recreational and sport fishing, the necessity of sustainable management in the face of environmental challenges, and the importance of involving and educating the younger generation in responsible fishing practices.

Athlete transition from American collegiate sport participation, to non-sport careers or professional sport, has been a contemporary topic in sport science research but it is still not well understood, especially in female athlete populations. Informed by athlete transition and identity theory, the current study's purpose was to describe the transition experiences of former women's collegiate soccer athletes, including both positive and negative contributing factors. Using a deductive conceptual content analysis, results showcase both positive (i.e., social support, career goals, recreational sport play) and negative (i.e., lack of a team/support, lack of soccer/competition, lack of direction) contributors to the post-collegiate sport transition for female soccer athletes. The importance of athletic identity and potential transition resources were identified. Specifically, participants endorsed career guidance, physical activity/exercise, mentorship programming, and mental health resources as potentially helpful to future athletes. Study findings expand upon relevant transition theory and former female athlete research. The current study aimed to know the role of practicing recreational sports activities in reducing psychological stress among the movement disabled category, using the descriptive approach and the psychological stress scale of sami Mohsen al khatana 2013 on a sample of (40) disabled people, including (20) disabled people practicing recreational sports activities and (20) no practicing handicapped people were randomly selected, after presenting and analyzing the results concluded that recreational sports activity has an effective and positive role in reducing psychological stress and changing behavior for the physically disabled who practice recreational activity, unlike no practitioners; the study came out with a number of suggestions and recommendations, including working on the success of recreational programs and activities for the disabled to modify behavior and emotions, believing in not giving in to disability, working on training pioneers and specialists in the field of attention to this sensitive group in society. Background: Sunburn can increase one's risk of developing skin cancer. We aimed to quantify the prevalence of sunburn during recreational outdoor sport (ROS) in summer, to explore the use of different sun protection measures, and to examine factors associated with sunburn during ROS using a population‐based sample from Germany. Methods: For this cross‐sectional study, 2081 individuals aged 16–65 years who reported being engaged in ROS in summer were surveyed via standardized telephone interviews in 2020 (National Cancer Aid Monitoring, NCAM). Results: Overall, 16.7% reported experiencing at least one sunburn during ROS in the past twelve months. Sunburn occurrence was negatively associated with the age of the participants (e.g. OR = 0.49 in 56–65 year‐olds, p <.001), and positively associated with skin type I/II (OR = 1.55, p <.001) and with having a higher number of nevi (OR = 1.42, p =.005). While wearing sleeved shirts was the most frequently‐used sun protection measure during ROS (74.9%), wearing headgear was least common in our sample (29.0%). In multivariate analyses, sunburn was positively associated with the use of sun protection measures (e.g. OR = 1.32 for wearing sleeved shirts, p =.02). Conclusions: Our nationwide data show that ROS is one of the settings where sun protection should play a greater role. Especially in organized sports, particular attention should be devoted to organizational (e.g. exercise outside peak hours) or contextual measures (e.g. shade by the natural or built environment) to prevent skin cancer in later life. Aim: This study aimed to compare the left ventricular (LV) systolic and diastolic parameters and left atrial (LA) mechanical functions of individuals engaging in recreational sports and resistance exercises on a weekly basis. Methods: A total of 43 male amateur athletes were included in this study, of which 24 performed resistance exercises (REs) (29.70 ± 8.74 year, weight: 81.70 ± 12.64 kg, height: 176.05 ± 7.73 cm, BMI: 27.64 ± 4.97 kg/m2), and 19 participated in recreational football training and were included in the recreational sports group (31.73 ± 6.82 year, weight: 86.00 ± 18.52 kg, height: 178.62 ± 4.95 cm, BMI: 25.55 ± 3.42 kg/m2). The exercises were standardized according to the weekly exercise frequency and volume. After recording the participants' demographic information, the LV systolic and diastolic parameters and LA mechanical functions were measured using echocardiography (ECHO) and Tissue Doppler Imaging. Results: Significant differences were observed in various cardiac parameters between the recreational sports group (REG) and resistance exercise Group (RSG). Specifically, the left ventricular (LV) diastolic diameter, LV end diastolic volume index (LVEDVi), and stroke volume index were notably higher in the REG compared to the RSG (t = 2.804, p =.010, effect size (ES) = 2.10; t = 3.174, p =.003, ES = 0.98; t = 3.36, p =.002, ES = 1.02, respectively). Notably, the RSG exhibited higher values for LV mass index (LVMi) and isovolumic relaxation time (IVRT) than the REG (t = 2.843, p =.007, ES = 0.87; t = 2.517, p =.016, ES = 0.76) in terms of LV systolic and diastolic parameters. Regarding left atrial (LA) mechanics, the REG demonstrated increased LA total emptying volume index, LA maximum volume index, LA volume before systole measured at the onset of the p-wave index, and conduit volume index compared to RSG (t = 2.419, p =.020, ES = 0.75; t = 2.669, p =.011, ES = 0.81; t = 2.111, p =.041, ES = 0.64; t = 2.757, p =.009, ES = 0.84, respectively). Conclusion: Our study revealed significant variations in LV and LA functions between REG and RSG. Our data suggest that REs led to substantial cardiac remodeling, altering myocardial structure and function. In contrast, the effect of recreational exercise on cardiac adaptation was less pronounced than that of resistance exercise. Consequently, we propose that individuals engaging in recreational exercise should consider modalities that impose higher cardiovascular demand for more effective cardiac conditioning. Adolescence is a stage of physical and psychosocial changes, in which risk behaviors are adopted within a difficult search for balance between family dependence and personal autonomy. The objective of this research is to analyze the socioeconomic factors that affect substance use in adolescents in the canton of Jipijapa in Ecuador. The present analysis explores in detail the socioeconomic factors that influence adolescent substance use. Using a comprehensive approach, factors such as socioeconomic status, educational and employment opportunities, and access to health and prevention services will be considered. A bibliographic review of the scientific literature was carried out. Information retrieval was accessible through scientific search engines such as PubMed; Scielo, Google Scholar. International and national articles were included. The searches considered for the study spanned from 2018 to 2023, published in languages such as Spanish and English. The results indicate that solving adolescent problems requires medical, psychological, nursing and social work attention. Likewise, it is reported that recreational and sports activities benefit the community and prevent the consumption of illicit substances, by keeping adolescents distracted. The research indicates that in the canton of Jipijapa, 10 workshops will have been held to promote recreational and sports activities for adolescents, making better use of their free time and leisure. In the United States, college students have been identified as a high-risk group for sexual violence (SV) victimization and perpetration, with one in three women and one in four men experiencing SV in their lifetimes. Therefore, studies investigating both perpetration and victimization across genders are pertinent. Additionally, in the context of higher education, athletics is often viewed as a high-risk environment for SV. Despite established relationships between SV and intercollegiate athletics, research on this topic is not conclusive due to the heterogeneous nature of college sports, as well as a dearth of research on recreational athletes. The primary purpose of this study was to examine the differences in SV victimization and perpetration among intercollegiate, recreational, and non-athlete populations. Additional context was provided by exploring variables at multiple levels of the socio-ecological model for violence prevention, as these factors can be important aspects of a person's development and may inform behavior. Utilizing a sample of 62,996 students from 199 institutions of higher education in the United States, multilevel logistic regression analyses were conducted to assess individual- (i.e., personal demographics), relationship- (i.e., athlete status), and community-level (i.e., institutional characteristics) predictors of SV victimization and perpetration. The results indicated that recreational athletes are the most at-risk group, experiencing and perpetrating SV at higher rates than non-athletes. Introduction: In the majority of the available source materials, research on the level of physical capacity of athletes concerns members of sports clubs and national teams, in a word, professional athletes. Does this mean that such research should not be conducted on recreational athletes? Of course not. The main aim of this article was to assess physical capacity (based on VO2max) in recreationally active people from the Podkarpackie region of Poland. The authors intended to determine whether practicing recreational sports without adequate technical facilities and staff influenced the course of their training and achievements. Material and Methods: The study involved 413 participants (body height 174.5 ± 9.5 cm; body weight 73.4 ± 20.3 kg) aged 18-60 years. Each participant followed the same treadmill test protocol and completed a questionnaire survey related to the number of injuries sustained. To determine the level of fitness, AT (VT1), RCP (VT2), VO2peak, and HRmax were determined during the study. Results: Based on the Powers and Howley classification, almost 50% of the participants were classified in the subgroup with the highest possible peak oxygen uptake (41.4%). More than one in four participants had a peak oxygen uptake at a very good level (28.3%), nearly one in five at good (18.9%), while more than one in ten reached an average (9.4%), low (1.5%), or very low (0.5%) levels. Individuals with multiple injuries achieved significantly higher scores on average in contrast to those without injuries (p=0.004). Conclusions: Physically active people have a high above-normal level of physical capacity, despite the recreational form of their sport. The study showed the importance of research on physically active people not only in the context of fitness. To date, research about human-environmental health and wellbeing thinking has tended to centre the health and wellbeing benefits for humans from time spent in nature. That is, we remain most concerned with the benefits of 'nature' to human health. However, nature-based sports and physical activities, like swimming and surfing, challenge such human-centerdness by 'resituating' swimmers and surfers in multispecies ecologies. By creating opportunities for experiencing encounters that highlight our vulnerability, sports and physical activities offer an example of how ecologies are part of our everyday lives in real ways, and have great value in encouraging greater environmental awareness and care across communities. Drawing on ecofeminist frameworks, I have been exploring how recreational sports and physical activities shape participants' relationships to ocean and coastal ecologies. In this discussion I will draw on fieldwork and interview data with ocean swimmers and surfers to explore how the encounters they have when immersed in the ocean can create a sense of vulnerability that acts to remind us we are part of the ocean ecology. Objectives: The use of image and performance enhancement drugs (IPEDs) in recreational sport represents an emerging public health and societal problem. The present study investigated whether self-affirmation changed exercisers' intentions to use IPEDs, via the effects of mental construal and message acceptance. Method: Sixty-eight exercisers who self-reported IPEDs use participated in the study and were randomly assigned to either a self-affirmation or a control group. All participants read a health-related message about the 10 consequences of IPEDs and subsequently completed a survey measuring message acceptance, mental construal, doping intentions and IPEDs-related social cognitive variables. Results: There were no significant differences between the self-affirmed and the control groups. Hierarchical linear regression analysis further showed that message acceptance, subjective norms, and situational temptation were significantly associated with intentions to use IPEDs. Conclusion: Our findings raise the possibility that for recreational exercisers IPED's use is seen mostly as a health-related matter than a socio-moral transgression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This essay considers how queer Latinx recreational sporting communities construct homosocial environments through their occupation of public spaces in Los Angeles. Field observations and ethnographic analysis identify how soccer communities provide Latinx women access to homosocial spaces through the social networks they create on and off the fields. The relationships and interactions of the participants in women's leagues serve as case studies of the radical homo-intimate formations within the Latinx community. While its content and editorial decisions are independent of NIRSA, the Recreational Sports Journal is NIRSA's scholarly communication outlet and supported by the NIRSA Foundation. Both the organization and journal share a common interest in shaping the future of college recreational sports programs. In response to and reflective of growing diversity on college campuses, that future prioritizes equity, diversity, and inclusion. This study sought to determine the extent that equity, diversity, and inclusion content has appeared in the Recreational Sports Journal during the time period of May, 2005–April, 2019. A retrospective content analysis was conducted on 200 research articles from the journal. To date, equity, diversity, and inclusion has not been addressed in a meaningful way, at least in this forum and during this time period. There is an urgent need for researchers to address this void. The purpose of this study was to consider how the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) Triple-Impact Competitor (TIC) workshop could be used to help create a positive climate for recreational sport club participants, and to examine how perceptions of a positive team climate related to indices of psychological well-being among sport club athletes. At the beginning of their season, sport club leaders completed the PCA TIC workshop. Following the conclusion of the spring season, we invited all sport club participants (N = 109) to complete a survey that examined the motivational climate on their teams, as well as their hope, happiness, and self-kindness. Athletes' perceptions of a CTI climate were significantly and positively related to their hope, happiness, and self-kindness. Results suggest that the PCA TIC training is an inexpensive strategy that may foster a positive environment within university sport club teams and may assist programs in promoting indices of psychological well-being among club sport athletes. To this point research on formalized sport in American higher education (i.e., recreational sport and collegiate athletics) has been limited in its conception of college student development which has limited its influence on the design and implementation of college and university sport programs. Expanding how college student development is understood would enable sport scholars to examine a wider array of educational and developmental outcomes within the college sport landscape. Not only would this fundamentally shift the type of questions asked of and about formal sport environments, it might also change how sport managers conceptualize and mobilize sport in higher education. Sportember is a program of a tourist destination in The North Bandung Area that offers sports programs. The program is inseparable from the current public interest in sports and raises the motivation of the community to do recreational sports. The purpose of the research is to find out the cause of the community to do recreational sports through the Sportember program in The North Bandung area in 2021. This research uses a quantitative method through a survey approach. The population of this study is visitors to the tourist area of North Bandung, precisely Hotel and Resorts Sindang Reret Cikole. From this population, 100 respondents were sampled through a random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out through community motivation questionnaires. The result of the study is that the motivation of the community towards recreational sports through the Sportember program in The North Bandung area has a percentage of 77%, so it can be concluded that the motivation of the community towards recreational sports through the Sportember program in North Bandung area is high.

Living learning communities (LLCs) add to the college student experience. The current study investigates academic and personal growth in a recreational sports–themed LLC intentionally built on student development theories. Surveys were administered to all students in the community at two time points across 2 years. Students in the program showed significant growth in leadership skills and grade point average. Research on the experiences of employees has been plentiful over the last decade; however, work examining the experiences of collegiate recreation employees is limited. In order to enhance employee well-being, it is important that management understands the experiences of their employees and can invest in job supports that best suit the needs of their employees. Therefore, this research study examined the impact of work and family conflict, workaholism, work engagement, burnout, and coping on employees within the industry of collegiate recreation. In this study, 2,474 National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) professional and student members were sent a survey in which 621 participated and 522 were analyzed. The first year of university study provides an ideal opportunity to target student participation in many health behaviors such as recreational sport. The study used the theory of planned behavior to identify the key behavioral, normative, and control beliefs underlying student participation in recreational sport. A cross-sectional design was used with a 4-week follow-up. A purposive sample of 206 participants responded to a theoretically informed questionnaire measuring baseline cognitions. Follow-up behavior was measured using self-report questionnaires. All beliefs correlated with intention, and seven beliefs correlated with behavior. Four key beliefs predicted intention ("enjoyable," "time consuming," "friends," and "family members") and two key beliefs predicted behavior ("enjoyable" and "time consuming"). Interventions successfully targeting these specific beliefs may lead to a greater number of students participating in recreational sport. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: There is limited research regarding the characteristics of those from the general population who seek care following acute concussion. Methods: To address this gap, a large cohort of 473 adults diagnosed with an acute concussion (female participants = 287; male participants = 186) was followed using objective measures prospectively over 16 weeks beginning at a mean of 5.1 days post-injury. Results: Falls were the most common mechanism of injury (MOI) (n = 137, 29.0%), followed by sports-related recreation (n = 119, 25.2%). Male participants were more likely to be injured playing recreational sports or in a violence-related incident; female participants were more likely to be injured by falling. Post-traumatic amnesia (PTA) was reported by 80 participants (16.9 %), and loss of consciousness (LOC) was reported by 110 (23.3%). In total, 54 participants (11.4%) reported both PTA and LOC. Male participants had significantly higher rates of PTA and LOC after their injury compared to their female counterparts. Higher initial symptom burden was associated with a longer duration of recovery for both male and female participants. Female participants had more symptoms and higher severity of symptoms at presentation compared to male participants. Female participants were identified to have a longer recovery duration, with a mean survival time of 6.50 weeks compared to 5.45 weeks in male participants (p < 0.0001). A relatively high proportion of female and male participants in this study reported premorbid diagnoses of depression and anxiety compared to general population characteristics. Conclusion: Although premorbid diagnoses of depression and/or anxiety were associated with higher symptom burden at the initial visit, the duration of symptoms was not directly associated with a pre-injury history of psychological/psychiatric disturbance. Background: Hip abductor tear (HAT) is an increasingly diagnosed cause of refractory lateral hip pain and dysfunction, affecting 10–25% of the general population. Purpose: (1) to determine the rate of return to activity and to assess the physical and recreational activity of patients undergoing open hip abductor repair (oHATr) and (2) to describe the modification or initiation of new sports disciplines. Study design: Case series; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: A total of 28 patients (29 hips) who underwent an oHATr were prospectively analyzed at a midterm follow-up of 3.5 (range 2–5) years. The sports and recreational activity levels, as well as type of sports practiced before and after surgery, and The Veterans RAND 12 Item Health Survey (VR-12) were assessed via questionnaire. Results: At the final follow-up, all patients were active in sports after surgery. The duration and frequency of sports activities showed a slight decrease (48–42 min per week and 3.2–2.9 sessions per week, respectively) (p = 0.412 and 0.135, respectively). The VR-12 had a score of 45 (13.12–63.18) points for the physical component and 41 (32–53.8) points for the mental component. 100% of the patients would undergo the surgery again. 95% of patients were satisfied with the overall results of the surgical outcome, with 98% satisfied with their hip pain relief and ability to undertake daily and work activities. Moreover, 94% were satisfied with their ability to return to recreational activities. The failure rate in our cohort was approximately 14%. Conclusion: All patients who underwent an oHATr were able to return at least to one type of sport. This cohort was highly satisfied with their sports involvement and recreational activity achievement. In addition, 88% of patients reported that oHATr improved sports activity. Stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) as both a competitive and recreational sport has grown in popularity over the last decade. Better understanding paddling kinematics is beneficial for both injury prevention and informing coaching practices in this growing sport. The purpose of this study was to analyze sagittal plane kinematics during both standing and kneeling paddling postures commonly adopted by injury-free, recreational SUP participants. Eighteen recreational SUP participants (seven males/eleven females) were asked to complete a series of paddling tasks on a SUP ergometer in two postures, during which kinematic data were acquired. Sagittal plane kinematic data were analyzed for joint excursion, or range of motion used, while paddling on both sides of the body in each posture. Analysis of variance was used to compare joint excursions across tasks. There were no significant differences in hip or trunk sagittal plant excursion between postures. However, there was significantly greater sagittal plane excursion at the shoulder in the kneeling as compared to the standing posture with the shoulder opposite the paddling side demonstrating the greatest total excursion. These results help establish the parameters of the paddling technique currently in use among injury-free SUP participants and may be used in the future to inform coaching practices. This article explores meaning-making and performances of femininity through material culture among ordinary women who engage in recreational sports races for women in Sweden, and the discursive effects for individual participants, and society at large. Positioned within a framework of discourse theory and poststructuralism, the study is based on a multi-method approach in data collection of written and oral accounts of race participants, auto-ethnographical notes, and material objects. The exploration shows that the female participants' usage of sportswear and gear points to stereotypical gender identities that are tied to women's shopping practices, which discursively undermine the physical achievement, while creating a female sports community. Linked to social class and resources, women can learn how to enhance their athletic practices and become proper athletes with the help of sporting clothes and gear – even when their bodies are weak, aged or malfunctioning. Introduction: Recreational and adaptive sports programs may be beneficial therapeutic interventions for improving psychological outcomes among veterans and service members with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) because they provide opportunities for exercise, socialization, respite, and time outdoors. Although there are an increasing number of sports programs for veterans and service members with PTSD, data evaluating the outcomes of such programs are limited. Materials and methods: The sample included 74 U.S. veterans who participated in the National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic (NVSSC), an annual, week-long adaptive sports program in San Diego, California. Participants were categorized into two subgroups: those who met criteria for probable PTSD using the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (n = 20) and those who did not (n = 54). Participants completed self-report assessments before and after each daily activity, before and after the program, and 3 months following program completion. Results: Over the course of NVSSC program participation, the diagnostic subgroups (probable PTSD vs. no PTSD) did not significantly differ on changes in depression, positive affect, negative affect, or insomnia. Compared to those without PTSD, veterans with PTSD experienced greater reduction in generalized anxiety during the program (MD = -3.07, p = 0.034). Veterans with PTSD also experienced significant improvements in PTSD symptoms at postprogram (MD = -23.76, p < 0.001). For both groups, significant benefits were shown during the program but rebounded by the 3-month follow-up. Over the course of each daily activity, positive affect (MD = 2.71, p < 0.001) and depression/anxiety scores significantly decreased (MD = -0.75, p < 0.001), with no differences between PTSD diagnostic groups across time (ps = 0.714 and 0.961, respectively). Conclusion: Veterans with and without PTSD benefited from participation in the NVSSC. Participants with probable PTSD experienced greater improvements in generalized anxiety at postprogram only; there were no other significant differences between the two groups at postprogram or at 3-month follow-up. In line with prior research, benefits for those with PTSD were lost by 3-month follow-up, suggesting that regular engagement in recreational and adaptive sports may be necessary to sustain psychological health improvements. This study reviews the research literature on blue health promotion and the value of multiple forms of coastal and marine recreation and activities across societal contexts, with contributions from the Nordic region. It re-emphasizes the need for interrogating whose benefits and interests are promoted and the diversity of physical cultures and activities. The conceptualisation of salutogenetic health interventions contextualises the review beyond individualised and medicalised scopes through the research question: Whether and how does integrated coastal and marine planning and management seek to facilitate and enhance physically active blue health promotion that is also socio-ecologically inclusive? Following the scoping review framework by Arksey and O'Malley (2005), the study identifies recent research and gaps through an iterative process. It employs transparency on inclusion/exclusion criteria, and in the comparison and discussion concerning methodology and findings. The research techniques included searches across online databases, journals, library resources, and manually scanning reference lists and abstracts. The peer-reviewed works included are n = 58 published between 1996 and 2022, with most published between 2015 and 2022. The reviewed literature is grouped analytically into two themes: (1) Blue health promotion, interventions and activities and (2) integrated marine planning, management and policy. Against this background, the article discusses the potential of a complementary research approach combining: (a) the salutogenetic orientation, (b) formative interventions and (c) co-creation in blue health promotion practices. Findings suggest a need for greater differentiation concerning a socio-ecological approach to recreational blue health promotion, prioritizing locally tailored and seasonally adapted interventions. Study aim(s): The study aims to determine the physical activity and type of exercises and sports used by the staff in the Tetovo region and the gender differences in physical activity. Methods: The research was conducted among a group of 179 respondents divided into two subgroups (75 female respondents and 104 male respondents) at the ages of 25 to 65. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used in the process of assessing physical activity levels. Statistical analysis was conducted by using the SPSS 26 packet program and the descriptive statistics were applied to carry out the findings of the study. The physical activity level of the academic staff is expressed in frequencies and percentages and it was established that the ratio validity limit-state is 95%. Results: The findings have shown that 24% of the male staff and 26.70% of the female staff reached the recommended level of physical activity. The set physical activity criterion is not met by 76% of the male staff and 73.30% of the female staff and they were classified as "insufficiently active". Conclusion: It has been concluded that the academic staff in the Tetovo region is not physically active enough based on the recommended level of moderate-intensity physical activity, which is 30 minutes per day (five days a week). Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that it is necessary to urgently take measures to increase the level of physical activity among the teaching staff in this region. At the onset of COVID-19, sport and fitness administrators shut down facilities to mitigate viral spread. To reopen facilities, safety protocols and policies reflecting risk mitigation strategies were established. This case study adopted the International Organization for Standardization's risk management framework to explore strategies for reopening collegiate recreational sport facilities during the pandemic. Document analysis was employed to analyze the reopening plans of four collegiate recreation departments across North America. The reopening plans focused on the risk assessment and treatment process and used a phased approach, with strategies moving from risk avoidance to risk reduction and transfer. Common risk management strategies across facility areas included enforced social distancing, reduced programming/ services, and increased sanitization. However, notable differences were found based on risk unique to distinct facility areas. Implications for practice include use of a customized facility inspection checklist, adherence to new industry safety standards, and clear communication with stakeholders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The primary goal of this study was to better understand how sports participation might be used as a therapeutic mechanism for academic burnout by examining the relationship between participation in leisure-time sports activities and academic burnout among participants. With 215 postgraduate life sciences students from various fields across four universities, a cross-sectional survey was carried out. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (SV), the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory, and demographic data were used in the data collection. The findings showed a strong association between participation in leisure-time sports with academic burnout and its components disengagement, exhaustion. The results of the data analysis showed that participation in recreational sports had a negative relation with both the overall score of academic burnout and its subcomponent disengagement. These findings emphasize the importance of recreational sports participation in lowering academic exhaustion, especially in terms of overall academic performance and engagement. Our research is aimed to explore the sports motivation and sports consumption of the students of the University of Szeged, using the results of a questionnaire-based survey. We want to find answers to the question about the changes of sports activities done by the students of the University of Szeged in the past decade. In our research it is the recreational sports that are primarily considered, and, in connection with them we want to find out details concerning the level of students, the types of sports, the venues, the services and the organizational background they prefer. Also, we are eager to investigate and quantify gender-related differences in our group of respondents. Based on our research into specialist literature our hypotheses are as follow: (H1) The proportion of athletes who exercise at least 2-3 times a week has increased since the 2011 survey. Gender differences can be observed (H2) in the frequency of playing sports, (H3) in the choice of sports, (H4) in the motivation to start playing sports, (H5) in the current motivation to play sports, (H6) in the participation in sports communities, (H7) in the motivation to compete, (H8) in the organization of sports, (H9) regarding the location of sports, and (H10) in the aspects of the choice of sports services. We have found that the proportion of students who do physical exercises has doubled. The frequency of recreational activities in the group of women surpassed the same proportion identified in the group of men. Those types of sports and fitness in which the cost implications were lower proved to be the most popular with students. Women were less open to competitive sports than men. The aims of the majority of students included stress relief and the preservation of health. Three fourths of students organized their sports activities on their own, but while men tended to do sports in groups and sports communities, women, on the other hand, when doing sports preferred staying at home. When choosing a sports provider it was affordability and accessibility of the sports venue that played the most significant role for our respondents. In summary, it can be stated that our research has proven to provide significant data for the development of university sports in Szeged and, in general, in Hungary; in addition, it was and it is important in the area of health education of university students as well. Funding is a problem that often arises in the implementation of national and international sporting events in Indonesia. Due to limited funding sources from the APBD and APBN, funding the implementation of the 2022 South Sumatera National Recreational Sports Festival (FORNAS) VI 2021 is another problem. Optimization of Nontax State Revenue (PNBP) can be a solution to problems in financing national and international sporting events through a collaboration scheme. In collaboration, the role of stakeholders is essential because each stakeholder cannot work alone. For example, collaborative governance in the implementation of FORNAS includes collaboration between the Indonesian Community Recreational Sports Committee (KORMI), the Organizing Committee of FORNAS IV 2021, the South Sumatera Provincial Government, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora), the Public Service Agency for the Fund Management Agency and Sports Business (BLU LPDUK), State-owned Enterprises (BUMN), Regional Owned Enterprises (BUMD), and private companies. The central government, in this case, the Ministry of Youth and Sports through BLU LPDUK as a unit, took the initiative to establish cooperation with the South Sumatera Provincial Government in the management of commercial funds in the implementation of FORNAS VI through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and continued with the Commercial Fund Management Cooperation Agreement with the Implementing Committee of FORNAS VI 2021 South Sumatera in 2022 for the management of commercial funds for FORNAS VI activities. This is carried out to optimize PNBP funds as a source of funding for FORNAS VI 2021 South Sumatera activities in 2022. Therefore, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, through BLU LPDUK, can continue to increase cooperation and collaboration with all local governments both at the provincial and district/city levels at each sports event so that the optimization of PNPB for the field of sports can be further massive and able to embrace many related stakeholders. This study aims to find out how the implementation of stakeholder collaboration optimizes PNBP and to analyze the driving and inhibiting factors of collaboration. This study investigated the effects of 10 weeks of recreational football training on the leg-extensor force-velocity (F-V) profile in 55- to 70-year-old adults. Simultaneous effects on functional capacity, body composition and endurance exercise capacity were examined. Forty participants (age 63.5 ± 3.9 years; 36♂ 4♀) were randomized in a football training (FOOT, n = 20) and a control (CON, n = 20) group. FOOT performed 45-min to 1-h of football training sessions with small-sided games twice a week. Pre- and post-intervention assessments were performed. The results revealed a greater increase in maximal velocity (d = 0.62, pint = 0.043) in FOOT compared to CON. No interaction effects were found for maximal power and force (pint > 0.05). 10-m fast walk improved more (d = 1.39, pint < 0.001), 3-step stair ascent power (d = 0.73, pint = 0.053) and body fat percentage (d = 0.61, pint = 0.083) tended to improve more in FOOT than in CON. RPE and HR values at the highest speed level during a submaximal graded treadmill test decreased more in FOOT compared to CON (RPE: d = 0.96, pint = 0.005; HR: d = 1.07, pint = 0.004). Both the number of accelerations and decelerations as well as the distance spent in moderate- and high-speed zones increased markedly throughout the 10-week period (p < 0.05). Participants perceived the sessions as very enjoyable and feasible. In conclusion, recreational football training resulted in improved leg-extensor velocity production, which translated to a better performance on functional capacity tests that rely on a high execution velocity. Simultaneously, exercise tolerance was improved and body fat percentage tended to reduce. It appears that short-term recreational football training can induce broad-spectrum health benefits in 55- to 70- year-old adults with only 2 hours of training per week. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
