Suicidal ideation is an important public health challenge among people living with HIV (PLWH) across the world and in China. HIV stigma, depression, and self-esteem have been associated with suicidal ideation. However, the underlying mechanisms remain not fully understood.Study data were derived from a sample of 465 PLWH in China. Suicidal ideation after HIV diagnosis was used as outcome variable. HIV stigma, depressive symptoms, and self-esteem were measured using reliable instruments and used as predictor, mediator, and moderator, respectively. Mediation and moderated mediation model were used for data analysis.31.6% of PLWH in China had suicidal ideation after HIV diagnosis. The association between perceived HIV stigma and suicidal ideation was partially mediated by depression (indirect effect = 0.02, 95% CI = [0.02, 0.03]) with the path from perceived HIV stigma to depressive symptoms being moderated by self-esteem (interaction effect = - 0.02, 95% CI [- 0.03, - 0.01]).Study findings suggested a mediation mechanism of HIV stigma on suicidal ideation through depressive symptoms, and self-esteem might weaken the mediation mechanism by moderating the perceived HIV stigma-depressive symptoms pathway.

Potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) is increasingly studied because of their suitable redox potential and high natural abundance. However, potential anode materials with long-term cycling stability are still in high demand because of the large radius of K+. Herein, an MOF-derived hierarchical carbon structure and the self-assembly of CNTs on hollow carbon polyhedrons are used as carbon matrices to disperse and stabilize metal selenides(Co-Se@CNNCP). When the hybrid is utilized in PIBs, it displays a specific capacity of 410 mA h g−1 at 0.1 A g−1 after 80 cycles and 253 mA h g−1 at 0.5 A g−1 after 200 cycles with a capacity retention of 100%, while the metal selenides dispersed on hollow carbon polyhedrons without CNTs (Zn-Co-Se@NCP) lose 86% of their capacity after 200 cycles. The superior cycling stability of the hybrid is mainly attributed to the large amounts of CNTs suppressing the agglomeration of the metal selenide nanoparticles on the surface, and the hollow carbon polyhedrons cause a high structural integrity during the repreated K+ insertion and extraction process. This work offers a feasible route to design a hierarchical carbon matrix for use as the anode materials of PIBs with long-term cycling stability.

For potassium-ion battery (PIB), it remains a huge challenge to develop an appropriate anode material to compensate the large radius of K+. MoSe2 shows great potential for efficient K+ insertion/extraction due to its unique lamellar structures with an interlayer spacing of 6.46 A. However, pure MoSe2 has low electronic conductivity and agglomerates during long-term cycling. In the present work, MoSe2 nanosheets were fabricated on the N-doped porous carbon polyhedron (NPCP). The obtained product was designated as NPCP@MoSe2 and functioned as anode materials for PIBs. NPCP@MoSe2 displayed a promising reversible capacity (325 mAh/g at 100 mA/g after 80 cycles), long-term cycling performance (128 mAh/g at 500 mA/g after 800 cycles), and superior rate property at 5000 mA/g. The enhanced electrochemical performance of NPCP@MoSe2 could be attributed to the rational design of hybrid structures. Notably, the hollow NPCP provide a large contact area for the interactions among the electrolytes and electro-active materials as well as partly buffer the volume expansion. The synergistic effects between MoSe2 and NPCP could mitigate the agglomeration of MoSe2 nanosheets. Besides, the uniformly doping N elements enhanced the conductivity of the carbon matrix, and the N-group also provided potential binding active sites for K-ion accommodation. This work paves the ideas for the design of novel anode materials with high specific capacity, good cycling stability and outstanding rate capability for PIBs.

To identify the associations between waist circumference (WC), waist-hip ratio (WHR), body fat rate (BFR), total body fat mass (BFM), and the risk of low back pain (LBP). We have searched PubMed through October 2020 for observational studies investigating the associations between WC, WHR, BFR, or total BFM and the risk of LBP. Random-effect models were used to calculate the summary risk estimates and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). A total of fifteen studies with 92,936 participants were included, of which ten were related to WC, five were related to WHR, four were related to BFR, and four were related to total BFM. Pooled results indicated that high WC (odds ratio (OR) = 1.30, 95% CI 1.10–1.54) and WHR (OR = 1.33, 95% CI 1.00–1.76) were associated with an increased risk of chronic low back pain (c-LBP). High WC (OR = 1.18, 95% CI 1.03–1.34) was also associated with an increased risk of non-c-LBP. The risk of non-c-LBP increased by 23% (OR = 1.23, 95% CI 1.01–1.50) for every 10% increase in BFR, and for every 10 kg increase in total BFM, the risk of non-c-LBP increased by 24% (OR = 1.24, 95% CI 1.10–1.39). Observational epidemiological evidence suggested that individuals with increased WC, WHR, BFR, or total BFM tended to have an increased risk of LBP, regardless of whether their body mass indexes were normal. Excessive fat mass was the essence of the process.

The present study evaluated the effects and underlying mechanisms of light salting on quality properties of tilapia fillets during repeated freezing-thawing. Light salting was found to improve water-holding capacity and decelerated texture softening in tilapia fillets during repeated freezing-thawing. Instead of tissue distortion and heterogeneous aggregates in control groups, light salting promoted myofibril disassembly and formation of an ordered protein network with the solubilized myofibrillar proteins. The myofibrils presented an overall amorphous appearance with the loss of M-lines, removing the restraints to myofibril swelling and solubilization from A-binds in salted groups during repeated freezing-thawing. The structural rearrangement caused by light salting facilitated the enlargement of water-holding space, transformation of tissue water, and tissue recoverability, improving water-holding capacity and texture properties of tilapia fillets during freezing-thawing. The finding provided novel insight into the improvement of quality properties of tilapia fillets by light salting when subjected to drastic temperature fluctuations.

Scallops are economically important shellfish widely cultured in China. In this study, the agglomeration characteristics of the scallop aquaculture industry in Chinese coastal provinces were explored based on data from the China Fishery Statistical Yearbook from 2012 to 2020 and the comparative advantage and concentration level of the scallop breeding industry. The data were analyzed using the comprehensive relative advantage index, location entropy, and industrial concentration degree method. Two main results revealed that Hebei Province had the highest comparative advantage in terms of efficiency, followed by Fujian, Guangdong, Shandong, Guangxi, Liaoning, and Zhejiang Provinces. Hebei Province had the highest comparative advantage in scale, followed by Liaoning, Shandong, Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, and Zhejiang Provinces. Additionally, the scallop cultivation industry in Hebei, Shandong, and Liaoning Provinces showed a high concentration, and the proportion of scallop production in the national production (CR4) in the three provinces, as well as in Guangdong, accounted for more than 99% year-round. Overall, Hebei, Shandong, and Liaoning Provinces had a comparative advantage in scale, comprehensive comparative advantage, and industrial agglomeration.

The mesoporous Ni/KIT-6 catalysts with different composition were prepared by altering reduction temperatures. In addition, their physicochemical properties were characterized by X-ray diffraction, in-situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller techniques. The results shown that the specific surface area, composition and metallic Ni crystallinity of the Ni/KIT-6 catalyst were significantly affected by reduction temperatures. The catalytic performances of the prepared Ni/KIT-6 catalysts were evaluated via the CO2 reforming of CH4 into syngas and followed the order: RT0 0 content of the most representative RT450 catalyst among of them were 646.7 m2 g−1, 0.92 cm3 g−1, 6.5 nm, and 30.9%, respectively. The CH4 and CO2 conversions of RT450 catalyst reached to 69.0 and 39.4% under a reaction temperature of 600 °C, respectively. The CO selectivity was greater than 49% and the RT450 catalyst had good stability.

Objectives This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of competency-oriented clinical laboratory teaching combined with case-based learning (CBL) and improve the examination of students’ competence of laboratory medicine. Methods A total of 107 medical laboratory medicine interns at the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from June 2017 to July 2019 volunteered to participate in the study and were randomly assigned into a control group with training of the traditional teacher-centered method, and an experimental group under a CBL teaching program. Student basic theory tests and skill assessment were designed to evaluate what the students gained from their internship when they completed their studies at the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University. Results Compared to students in the control group taught with the teacher-centered method, those in the CBL teaching program had significantly higher theory test scores and skill assessment scores on average. Competencies with particularly significant improvement included identification and processing of instrument alarm information, analysis of test results, identification and solution of the problem, as well as identification and reporting of the critical value and clinical communication. Conclusions The competency-oriented teaching method combined with CBL is an effective method for improving students’ professional knowledge, increasing language expression, and enhancing interpersonal relationship and teamwork, which is worthy of being promoted in laboratory medicine teaching.

Home cooking has been considered as an indoor pollution problem since cooking oil fumes contain various toxic chemicals such as aldehydes. Fortifying edible oils with docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) has been applied to enhance the nutritional value of oils. This study designed a frying simulation system and examined the effect of oil type, DHA fortification, heating time, and addition of natural antioxidant on the emissions of aldehydes from heated oils. Results showed that linseed oil had the highest total aldehyde emissions, followed by soybean oil, peanut oil, and palm oil. Fortifying soybean oil with DHA increased the toxic aldehydes emitted. Quercetin, a flavonoid, significantly reduced aldehydes emitted from DHA-fortified soybean oil (by up to 39.80%) to levels similar to those of normal soybean oil. Further analysis showed that DHA-fortified soybean oil with quercetin had a significantly higher DHA and unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) content than the control oil at each heating time point. The result indicated that quercetin inhibited emissions of aldehydes, at least in part, by protecting UFAs from oxidation. Collectively, quercetin could be used as a natural additive in DHA-fortified and normal cooking oils to reduce aldehyde emissions, indoor air pollution, and preserve functional DHA and other UFAs.

Frozen tilapia fillet has become a leading aquatic product. High drip loss, dry and fibrous mouthfeel, and an unappealing appearance are its main problems. It was hypothesized that light salting could improve the quality, and that the preparation conditions would affect the storage stability of frozen tilapia fillets.The quality changes of lightly salted tilapia fillets were evaluated during frozen storage, and the underlying mechanisms were studied from the physicochemicaland microstructural perspectives. Though the salt content was 1.5% in all samples,the amount of ice crystals in frozen tissues decreased with the descending water content and freezing point (P0.05). No intracellular voids were observed in the samples prepared under proper salting conditions, and the myofibers were plump and smooth after freezing-thawing, which contributed to the high water-holding capacity of lightly salted fillets. After 28 days,the water-binding capacity of the salted groups was 14.69%-18.62% higher than that of their unsalted counterparts (P 0.05). The reduced protein solubility in the salted fillets was likely to have occurred because the solubilized and unfolded proteins interacted more easily during frozen storage. The oxidation degree of myofibrillar proteins was also affected by salting condition, and the fillets with less oxidized sulfhydryl groups maintained high springiness after 28 days of frozen storage.The salting condition of 9% NaCl solution for 1 h was recommended for the preparation of lightly salted fillets from freshwater fish, taking into account quality, processing efficiency, and storage stability. The enhanced water-holding capacity and texture of lightly salted tilapia fillets were attributed to modified physicochemical and microstructural properties. These results could provide a scientific basis for the processing and storage of high-quality, frozen, lightly salted fillets from freshwater fish. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

Currently, lumbar sympathetic block (LSB) is commonly utilized in lower extremity CRPS that has failed to respond to medication therapy and physical therapy, but its effectiveness is unknown. The tourniquet ischemia test (IT) can distinguish between two types of CRPS: IT-positive CRPS and IT-negative CRPS.Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate whether LSB improves pain scores in patients with lower extremity CRPS-1 and to screen factors to predict its efficacy.Study Design: Prospective clinical observational study.Setting: Pain management center.Subjects: Forty-three patients diagnosed with lower extremity CRPS-1 using the Budapest criteria were included as participants.Methods: Forty-three CRPS-1 patients were treated with LSB therapy, and all of them underwent a tourniquet ischemia test (IT) before undergoing LSB therapy. LSB therapy was performed using a combination of ultrasonography and fluoroscopy. Then, numeric rating scale (NRS) scores and the symptom relief rates of patients were evaluated at 1, 4, and 12 weeks. Finally, peripheral blood inflammatory cytokine samples were collected before and after the LSB treatment.Results: At 4 weeks after the treatment, the total effective symptom relief rate of LSB on CRPS-1 was 25.6% (11/43), with 52.6% (10/19) of IT(+) patients and 4.2% (1/24) of IT(-) patients. There was a significant difference between the IT(-) and IT(+) groups (P = 0.001). The multivariate binary logistic regression analysis revealed that the response to the tourniquet IT was the only significant independent predictor of sympathetic block success (p = 0.007).Conclusion: Tourniquet IT is a simple, safe and effective test to distinguish patients with lower extremity CRPS-1. Facilitating charge separation and increasing surface active sites have always been the goals of photocatalysis. Herein, we synthesized a Ni-doped Zn0.8Cd0.2S hollow sphere photocatalyst with a facile one-step hydrothermal method. Energy-dispersive spectroscopy mapping showed the high dispersion of Ni ions in the Zn0.8Cd0.2S hollow spheres. The experimental results confirmed that Ni doping reduced the band structure of the substrate, suppressed the recombination of photo-induced electrons and holes, and provided more reactive sites. Therefore, the photocatalytic activity had been greatly improved. As a consequence, the detected photocatalytic H2 evolution rate increased up to 33.81 mmol·h-1·g-1 over an optimal Ni doping (5 wt %) of Zn0.8Cd0.2S hollow spheres, which was 20.87-fold higher than that of pure CdS. Elemental mapping showed that the Zn element was mainly distributed in the outermost layer of the hollow spheres; this might be the critical factor that enabled Ni-doped Zn x Cd1-x S to maintain excellent stability.

Water resource shortage is a realistic problem faced by water supply systems in river basins. Forecasting water demand is crucial for sustainable management of water supply systems. In this paper, the ARMA—DNN model is established to predict the water demand of the basin by combining the deep neural network (DNN) and the autoregressed-moving average (ARMA) mixed model. Taking the economic growth water demand and the actual social water demand as the main prediction targets, a mixed prediction model based on 14 statistical indicators is built. The model uses data from 2010 to 2020 to forecast water demand in the Minjiang River Basin. The results show that :(a) the model can accurately predict the future water consumption of the basin under the condition of actual water consumption changes; (b) The forecast of future water consumption has a significant impact on agricultural grain yield, industrial economic output value and domestic water satisfaction. In each region of the basin, agricultural grain yield and industrial economic output value and domestic water satisfaction are mutually restricted; (c) When climate conditions deteriorate and water shortages become severe, effective water demand forecasting can alleviate water demand contradictions to some extent. In a word, watershed managers need to make industrial water allocation schemes in different regions based on the forecast results of future water consumption, so as to balance the relationship among agricultural and food output, economic output value and domestic water satisfaction.

It is unclear whether maternal working time has an impact on offspring's weight-related outcomes especially obesity; the objective of this study is to conduct the first meta-analysis to focus on this topic. We searched PubMed, Ovid, and Web of Science databases through August 2021. A random-effect model was used to assess the pooled odds ratios (ORs) and regression coefficients (β) with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). Subgroup analyses were conducted to explore sources of heterogeneity. Publication bias was evaluated by the Egger's tests. Twenty-two observational studies were included with a total of 191,420 participants. Compared with children whose mothers worked less than 35 h/week, we found that children whose mothers worked more than 35 to 40 h/week had a 2.24-fold increased risk of childhood overweight/obesity (OR = 2.24, 95% CI: 1.61-3.11). An increment of 10 h/week in maternal working was associated with an approximately 1.0 percentage points in the probability of childhood overweight/obesity (β = 0.008, 95% CI: 0.004-0.012). The pooled OR also indicated a similar result (OR = 1.09, 95% CI: 1.04-1.15). In addition, an increment of 10 h/week in maternal working was associated with 0.029 units increase in offspring's BMI z score (β = 0.029, 95% CI: 0.016-0.042). Maternal long working hours is a potential risk factor for offspring's weight-related outcomes. Measures should be taken to protect the work welfare of females, thus facilitating the positive interaction of individual-family-society.

Background In recent years, the Chinese government has introduced a new system called the integrated health care system to deepen health care reform and enhance the capacity of the primary health care services. Objective We aimed to investigate the perceptions and opinions of general practitioners (GPs) on the integrated health care system. Methods A cross-sectional investigation involving 764 GPs in Hubei province of China was conducted. We used a self-designed questionnaire to collect information on demographics, GPs’ knowledge and attitude of the integrated health care system. Data on 749 GPs with completed questionnaires were analysed descriptively. We conducted Spearman rank correlation analysis to test correlation of grade data. Results 60.92% of the 749 GPs were familiar with the integrated health care system. 88.25% of the GPs were apt to support its development and 70.09% thought it could promote downward referral of patients. The GPs’ familiarity with the integrated health care system was significantly related to professional guidance from doctors in higher hospitals (P < 0.05), but not job titles of GPs (P > 0.05). 78.0% of GPs thought that the main benefit of the integrated health care system was the reduction of patients’ health care costs; 70.1% believed that the most difficulty was insufficient publicity. Conclusions The GPs’ general cognition of the integrated health care system was general. Most of the GPs supported the integrated health care system and believed that it contributed to decrease the patients’ health care costs. Insufficient publicity and the incomplete two-way referral mechanism were regarded to be the main obstacles to its development.

A series of imidazolinium functionalized metal complexes were prepared as efficient and recyclable homogeneous catalysts for the synthesis of cyclic carbonates via the coupling reaction of carbon dioxide and epoxides in the absence of co-catalysts and solvent. Due to the synergistic effect between the metal center as Lewis acid and the imidazolinium groups with halide anions as Lewis base, these catalysts exhibited excellent catalytic capability. Particularly, high turnover frequency (TOF) values of (1174, 1240 and 1262 h−1) for bifunctional catalysts (2c, 2i and 2j, respectively) were achieved via adjusting reaction parameters. These catalysts also showed excellent catalytic performances under atmospheric pressure. Recyclability test showed that this kind of bifunctional catalyst can be easily recovered and reused for at least five times without dramatic loss of activity and selectivity. The optimum reaction conditions were also screened as (120 °C, 1.0 MPa CO2 and 2 h). The catalyst could also be applied to a variety of substrates and be used for a long time with high catalytic activities. We also performed the Kinetic studies, which suggested that the activity of catalysts following the order I− > Br− > Cl−. Moreover, a plausible reaction mechanism by imidazolinium functionalized metal complexes was proposed.

Background and Purpose Patients with aortic disease might have an increased risk of intracranial aneurysm (IA). We conducted this research to assess the prevalence of IA in patients with aortopathy, considering the impact of gender, age, and cardiovascular risk factors.Methods We searched PubMed and Scopus from inception to August 2019 for epidemiological studies reporting the prevalence of IA in patients with aortopathy. Random-effect meta-analyses were performed to calculate the overall prevalence, and the effect of risk factors on the prevalence was also evaluated. Anatomical location of IAs in patients suffered from distinct aortic disease was extracted and further analyzed.Results Thirteen cross-sectional studies involving 4,041 participants were included in this systematic review. We reported an estimated prevalence of 12% (95% confidence interval [CI], 9% to 14%) of IA in patients with aortopathy. The pooled prevalence of IA in patients with bicuspid aortic valve, coarctation of the aorta, aortic aneurysm, and aortic dissection was 8% (95% CI, 6% to 10%), 10% (95% CI, 7% to 14%), 12% (95% CI, 9% to 15%), and 23% (95% CI, 12% to 34%), respectively. Gender (female) and smoking are risk factors related to an increased risk of IA. The anatomical distribution of IAs was heterogeneously between participants with different aortic disease.Conclusions According to current epidemiological evidence, the prevalence of IA in patients with aortic disease is quadrupled compared to that in the general population, which suggests that an early IA screening should be considered among patients with aortic disease for timely diagnosis and treatment of IA.

Water-soluble AgInZnS quantum dots (AIZS QDs) were synthesized with glutathione (GSH) as a stabilizer by a facile one-step method based on a hydrothermal reaction between the nitrate salts of the corresponding metals and sodium sulfide as a sulfide precursor at 110 °C. The optimal reaction conditions (temperature, time, pH, and the molar ratios of the precursors) were studied. According to the data from TEM, XPS, and XRD, AIZS QDs were characterized with excellent optical properties. The results showed that the aqueous-dispersible AIZS QDs were quasi-spherical and their average diameter was 3.51 nm. Furthermore, the cytotoxicity of AIZS QDs was investigated by microcalorimetry and microscopy techniques (confocal microscopy and TEM). The data revealed that AIZS QDs exhibited low toxicity, biocompatibility, and good water stability, due to which they could be used as a fluorescent probe for bioimaging and labeling. In addition, AIZS QDs could be used as a sensor to detect Cu2+ because the fluorescence of AIZS QDs was quenched by Cu2+.

In addition, the financial management system should adapt to the development of the times and the concept of financial management should keep pace with the times. Furthermore, with the reform of China’s political system and the rapid development of the market economy, there are more and more uncertainties in the management of the daily affairs of the grassroots institutions, which brings more and more pressure on the management of local financial affairs. As a result, in order to improve the efficiency of grassroots financial management and effectively adjust the financial management activities of government and departments at all levels, the transition from manual income and expenditure management to information technology has become an inevitable trend. To perform public duties, the important material basis of business units is fixed assets. In recent years, with the increasing proportion of fixed assets in the total assets of the society, the problems of fixed asset management in institutions have become more and more obvious, such as focusing on the management of budgetary funds but neglecting the management of fixed assets, irregular basic work, disconnection between business and financial management, unbalanced allocation, low efficiency in use, and low activation rate of fixed assets, as well as even loss of fixed assets. Financial management performance evaluation has achieved some research and practical results. As an extended field, performance evaluation of state-owned asset management is gradually being emphasized by theoretical and practical circles. As a public service function of institutions, it is necessary to have a material basis to perform. Performance evaluation of state-owned asset management in institutions can improve the level of asset management, achieve higher management performance, and ultimately realize the purpose of providing high-quality public services needed by society. As a result, this study takes this as the starting point to establish a performance evaluation model around the financial performance management funds of institutions.

Background Men who have sex with men (MSM) have become a high-risky population of HIV infection due to their risk sexual behaviors. The psychosocial characteristics play an important effect on HIV-related risky behaviors. This current study aimed to explore the relationship between HIV-related risky behaviors and the latent pattern of psychosocial characteristics among HIV-negative MSM. Method Participants were recruited from Wuhan, Nanchang, and Changsha city from September 2017 to January 2018. The basic socio-demographic characteristics, psychosocial characteristics and HIV-related risky behaviors were collected by self-administered questionnaire and standardize scales. Latent profile analysis (LPA) was used to create the latent classes using variables associated with HIV-related risky behaviors, including social support, reliance, sexual minority stigma, identity concealment, adverse childhood experience and depression. Results Three psychosocial characteristic patterns were revealed by the LPA. “identity concealment group” (IC group) and “ACE group” represented the highest risk profile with highest score of identity concealment and adverse childhood experience (ACE), respectively. “IC group” have a higher likelihood of one-night male partners (AOR=2.74, 95%CI=1.54, 4.90), both fixed and one-night male partners (AOR=2.01, 95%CI=1.34-3.01) and HIV-unsure male partner (AOR=2.12, 95%CI=1.44-3.13) compared with “social support and resilience group” (SR group). ACE group were more likely having inconsistent condom use (AOR=2.58, 95%CI=1.41-4.73), and having sex with HIV-positive male partner (AOR=4.90, 95%CI=1.95-12.30) with comparison of SR group. Interesting, ACE group had a higher ratio (90.0%) of inconsistent condom use among MSM whose male partners were HIV-positive. Conclusions Six important psychosocial factors were divided into three latent pattern classes. Compared with “social support and reliance group”, “identity concealment group” and “ACE group” were more likely to engage in HIV-related risky sexual behaviors. Besides mental health guidance, promoting serological disclosure of sexual partners and consistent condom use behavior is critical for MSM with higher level of identity concealment or ACE.

Whether women with a history of miscarriage or stillbirth have an increased risk of diabetes is inconclusive. We aimed to systematically assess the association between them.We searched PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus through November 2022. Random-effect model for meta-analysis was applied to calculate pooled odds ratios and corresponding 95 % confidence intervals (CIs) when heterogeneity was 40 %.Thirteen cohort studies and eight case-control studies with a total of 529,990 participants were included. Women ever experiencing a miscarriage had a 1.15-fold risk of non-gestational diabetes (95% CI: 1.02-1.28) and a 1.62-fold risk of gestational diabetes (95% CI: 1.32-1.98) compared to those never experiencing a miscarriage. Of them, women with three or more miscarriages had a 1.99-fold risk of non-gestational diabetes (95% CI: 1.36-2.91). The risk of non-gestational diabetes among women ever experiencing a stillbirth was 1.21 times compared with those never experiencing a stillbirth (95% CI: 1.03-1.41). Pooled results did not support a stable association between stillbirth and gestational diabetes risk (odds ratio:1.91, 95% CI: 1.00-3.64).A history of miscarriage or stillbirth was associated with an increased risk of diabetes in women. Future studies are needed to explore whether prediabetic metabolic conditions contribute to this association.

Hypertension is the leading single contributor to all-cause death and disability worldwide. However, there is scarce evidence on the prevalence and risk factors of hypertension for Chinese youth. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of hypertension among Chinese college freshmen and to identify the influencing factors. We conducted a cross-sectional study of all freshmen from 2015 to 2017 at a university in Wuhan, China by physical examination and standard-structured questionnaire. The Pearson chi-square test was used to compare categorical variables. Forward stepwise logistic regression method was used in the multivariate analysis to identify independent predictors of hypertension in youth. A total of 12,849 participants were included, and the prevalence of hypertension of Chinese college freshmen was 4.3% (7.9% in men and 1.6% in women). Background Animal bites are a major public health problem. The more serious the bite wound is, the higher the risk of developing rabies is. This study aimed to investigate the severity of wounds among animal bite victims and identify the influencing factors in Wuhan, China. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among 1015 animal bite victims visiting rabies prevention clinics. We performed a face-to-face interview to collect information on the exposure category of the bite wound, the type of the offending animal, exposure-to-risk situations, etc. Factors associated with exposure categories were identified by multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results Five hundred and sixty-four (55.57%) cases were category III exposures, 418 (41.18%) were category II exposures, and 33 (3.25%) were category I exposures. People who were hurt by their own domestic animals (odds ratio [OR] = 1.55, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.14–2.10), and those exposed to animals unvaccinated against rabies (OR = 1.45, 95% CI: 1.08–1.95) had a higher risk for category III exposures. Respondents who did not know the fatality of rabies were more likely to be injured seriously compared to those who knew that rabies is fatal, and the OR was 1.40 (95% CI, 1.05–1.86). Conclusions This study showed that factors associated with the severity of bite wounds mainly included types of the offending animal, vaccination status of the animal, and knowledge of rabies fatality. Educational programs and awareness-raising campaigns should be provided to decrease severe animal bites, especially targeting pet owners and those with limited rabies knowledge.

Background: Despite the relationship between Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and depressive symptoms, which has been well conducted in general populations, little is known about homosexual and bisexual populations, especially female sexual minorities in China. This study aims to investigate the prevalence of ACEs and depressive symptoms and to analyze the relationship between them among female sexual minorities in China.Methods: The eligible participants were aged 16 years or older who report their sexual orientation as homosexual or bisexual. The data was collected through anonymous questionnaires under the help of Lespark in Bejing from July 18 to December 29, 2018. Univariate analysis and multiple linear regression analyses were performed to explore the relationship between ACEs and depressive symptoms among female sexual minorities. All statistical analyses were conducted by the software of SPSS 22.0.Results: Among 301 female sexual minorities,51.5% reported at least one ACE, in which emotional neglect (22.6%) and emotional abuse (22.3%) were common ACEs. 24.6% reported that they had suffered only one type of ACE, and 10% have suffered four or more ACEs. As for depressive symptoms of female sexual minorities, the detection rate was 56.1%. The multiple linear regression analyses showed that abuse (β=2.95, p＜0.05) and neglect (β=3.21,p＜0.05) were positively correlated with depressive symptoms and female sexual minorities with three (β=4.11, p＜0.05) or more (β=6.02, p＜0.001) ACEs suffered from more depressive symptoms than others. Conclusion: Both ACEs and depressive symptoms were at high prevalence among female sexual minorities in China. ACEs were associated with depressive symptoms, especially childhood abuse and neglect experiences that have a significant effect on female sexual minorities’ mental health.

ObjectivesA healthy dietary habit is essential for preventing non-communicable diseases (NCDs). We aimed to assess the adherence to the Chinese Food Pagoda (CFP) proposed in the Chinese Dietary Guidelines 2016 in the high-risk population of NCDs in central China.MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted in two large enterprises (totally 3,016 employees) from October to December 2019 in Hubei Province (central China). The high-risk population of NCDs was identified by physical examination, laboratory test and face-to-face questionnaire survey according to the National Norms for Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases issued by the Chinese government. We assessed the deviation of real diet from the CFP recommended diet in the high-risk population of NCDs.ResultsA total of 821 participants aged 35–59 years old with at least one high-risk factor of NCDs were enrolled in our study. Of them, 53.8% were daily smokers, 49.6% had elevated blood cholesterol, 31.4% were centrally obese, 23.3% had high normal blood pressure, and 3.5% had impaired fasting glucose. Significant disparity was detected in the high-risk population of NCDs between real food consumption and the CFP's recommendation (P < 0.05), such as the deficient intake of nuts and milk and dairy products, and the over-consumption of cereals, meat and poultry, oil, and salt. Participants with impaired fasting glucose had the highest intake of cereals and vegetables on average. Participants with central obesity were more likely to consume meat and poultry (P < 0.05). The lowest average intake of eggs and the highest average intake of milk and dairy products were found in participants with high blood cholesterol (P < 0.05). The daily smokers were more likely to consume beans and nuts (P < 0.05). The lowest average intake of fruits and the highest average intake of tubers were found in participants with high normal blood pressure (P < 0.05).ConclusionAdherence to CFP in the high-risk population of NCDs appeared to be challenging. It is necessary to adopt dietary education campaign focusing on the high-risk population of NCDs to prevent or delay the occurrence of NCDs.

Exposure to acrolein, one environmental and dietary pollutant, has been shown to cause inflammation. Here, we reported for the first time that acrolein aggravated lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation in Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) as evidenced by the further increased mRNA expression of three pro-inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin 1β (IL-1β), interleukin 6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). Acrolein also further increased the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and decreased the activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in LPS-pretreated HUVEC. Moreover, acrolein treatment further increased the nucleotide oligomerization domain-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) and apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a caspase-recruitment domain (ASC) expression, caspase-1 cleavage, and downstream matures interleukin 18 (IL-18) and IL-1β level in LPS-pretreated HUVEC. Acrolein treatment also further increased the expressions of high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88), and phospho-NF-κB P65 (P-P65) in the LPS pre-treated HUVEC. Thus, acrolein aggravated LPS-induced HUVEC inflammation through induction of oxidative stress, and activation of NLRP3 inflammasome and HMGB1/MYD88/NF-κB signaling pathway. In addition, apigenin and apigenin-7, 4'-O-dioctanoate attenuated acrolein-aggravated inflammation by targeting the above signaling pathways. Our findings could help to develop potential therapeutic strategies against acrolein-enhanced inflammation.

Cancer has the highest mortality in humans worldwide, and the development of effective drugs remains a key issue. Traditional Chinese medicine Saussurea involucrata (SI) exhibits a series of effects, such as anti-cancer, but the action mechanisms are still unclear. Here, systems pharmacology was applied to reveal its anti-cancer mechanism. First, we screened the active compounds of SI. Then, the compound–target network, target–disease network, and target–pathway network were constructed. DAVID was applied for GOBP analysis and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis on cancer-related targets. Seven potential compounds and 187 targets were identified. The target–disease classification network showed that compounds mainly regulated proteins related to cancer, nervous system diseases, and cardiovascular system diseases. Also, SI anti-tumor effect mainly associated with the regulation of NO production, angiogenesis, MAPK, and PKB from GOBP enrichment. Additionally, KEGG pathway enrichment indicated that targets involved in anti-inflammatory action, inhibiting angiogenesis and anti-proliferation or inducing apoptosis. Experimental validation showed that four active compounds could inhibit cell proliferation and promote apoptosis in A549 (except for kaempferol), PC-3, and C6 cells. This study not only provides experimental evidence for further research on SI in cancer treatment but also promotes the development of potential drugs of SI in modern medicine.

Objectives The objective of this study was to investigate the characteristics, methodological quality, and reporting of statistical analyses of published dose-response meta-analyses (DRMAs). Study Design and Setting We searched PubMed to identify DRMAs published in 2017. The reporting characteristics and methodological qualities were assessed by the PRISMA (27 items) and AMSTAR (11 items), respectively. We also summarized the reporting of statistical analyses of included DRMAs. Results We identified 93 DRMAs, most of which (59/93) were conducted by Chinese researchers and the main outcome was the incidence of cancers. Of the PRISMA and AMSTAR items, twenty and five were well complied (80% or more), respectively. The compliance rates of several PRISMA checklist items, such as structured summary, objectives, protocol and registration, and funding, were less than 50%. There were no criteria to estimate the doses for the open-ended intervals of exposure or intervention doses. When the restricted cubic splines were used to fit nonlinear dose-response relationships, there were also no criteria to determine the fixed knots. Conclusion The adherence to the methodological items of reporting guidelines and statistical analysis of published DRMAs were suboptimal. Development of reporting guidelines to assist authors in writing and readers in critically appraising the reports of DRMAs is timely.

The influence of various freeze-thaw cycles on the physicochemical and histological properties of lightly salted tuna meat was studied. Enhanced water-holding capacity and springiness were obtained in the salted samples even after repeated freezing-thawing, which was ascribed to the modifications in tissue microstructure, ice crystal morphology, and protein properties. Intracellular and spherical ice crystals were observed in the salted meat, rather than the extracellular and large ice columns in the unsalted counterparts. Proteins in the salted meat were more sensitive to the stresses imposed by freezing-thawing and would form hydrophobic interactions more readily. Excessive freeze-thaw cycles accelerated the discoloration of salted meat, probably due to the decreased oxidative stability by salt. The overall quality properties of lightly salted tuna meat could be better maintained when subjected to no more than three freeze-thaw cycles.

Solar thermochemical CO2/H2O splitting cycles based on redox oxides have emerged as a potential strategy to store dilute and intermittent solar energy. It is desirable to explore other materials that can convert solar energy into chemical energy with high efficiency. Herein, a thermochemical water splitting (TCWS) cycle based on Sr- and Co-doped LaGaO3−δ (La1−xSrxGa1−yCoyO3−δ) was successfully developed. Compared with inert LaGaO3−δ, the oxygen vacancy concentration (δ) is gradually increased as the contents of Sr- and/or Co-dopants increased. The δ value of LaGa0.4Co0.6O3−δ (LGC60) reaches 0.16 after reduction for 40 min at 1350 °C, which is 5 and 4 times that of Ce0.85Zr0.15O2−δ and LSMA6464, respectively. The H2 yield of LGC60 (478 μmol H2 g−1perovskite) is 15 times that of the current state-of-the-art material, CeO2−δ (32 μmol H2 g−1material), when reduced at 1350 °C and re-oxidized at optimized 800 or 1000 °C. 1.0 atom% IrOx as a catalyst doped into the structure of LGC50, named LGC50-Ir(1.0), can increase the H2 release rate by 1.3-fold. XPS results reveal that the H2O splitting reaction is driven by the Co2+/Co3+ redox pair. DFT calculations predict that the oxygen vacancy formation energies (EV) of La1−xSrxGa1−yCoyO3 span from nearly 0.7 to about 5.3 eV under vacuum conditions at 1623 K, depending on the contents of Sr- and Co-dopants. Exploring low-cost and highly efficient non-noble bifunctional electrocatalysts with high performances for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is essential for large-scale sustainable energy systems. Herein, the Ni–Co–O–C–P hollow tetragonal microtubes grown on 3D Ni foam (Ni–Co–O–C–P/NF) was synthesized via a one-step solvothermal method and followed by a simple carbon coating and in situ phosphorization treatment. Benefiting from the unique open and hierarchical nano-architectures, the as prepared Ni–Co–O–C–P/NF presents a high activity and durability for both the HER and OER in alkaline media. The overall-water-splitting reaction requires a low cell voltage (1.54 V @ 10 mA cm−2) in 1 M KOH when Ni–Co–O–C–P/NF is used as both the anode and cathode. The highly flexible structure can provide a large amount of exposed active sites and shorten the mass transport distance. Furthermore, bimetallic phosphides also favor the electrocatalysis due to the higher electronic conductivity and the synergetic effect. This work demonstrated a promising bifunctional electrocatalyst for water electrolysis in alkaline media with potential in future applications.

The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of glycation on physicochemical properties and volatile flavor characteristics of silver carp mince (SCM). The changes in the degree of grafting, chemical composition, pH, color, total amino acid composition, and volatile flavor compounds of SCM with or without glucose were studied at different heating times. The results showed that the addition of glucose could promote the glycation reaction rate of SCM. Lysine and cysteine were the main amino acids involved in glycation. Glycation enhanced the overall aroma of SCM by accelerating lipid oxidation and Strecker degradation. In conclusion, these results suggest that glycation can enhance the volatile flavor of SCM during thermal processing and can be used as a volatile flavor enhancement technology for the development of protein nutrition food with good flavor from low-value fish.

The molecule water activation is believed to be one of the most critical steps that is closely related to the proceeding of photoinduced reaction, such as overall water splitting, carbon dioxide conversion, and organic contaminant degradation. As metal oxides possessing a regular structure with high crystallinity are widely accepted as promising for effective catalysis, numerous studies have been devoted to the relevant photoinduced applications. However, their irregular derivative phases with lower crystallinity, which could exhibit tempting opportunities for catalytic activities, have long been ignored. Here, the surface-amorphized bismuth oxychloride is produced by homogeneous nanoparticle distribution through a rapid precipitation strategy. Comparing with its surface-crystallized counterpart, the partially amorphized bismuth oxychloride undergoes a fast surface reconstruction process under light irradiation, forming active surfaces with rich oxygen vacancies (OVs), leading to not only distinctive OV-mediated interfacial charge-transfer mechanisms with improved carrier dynamics but also robust water-surface interface with enhanced physical and chemical interaction, thus resulting in enhanced photocatalytic water oxidation. The strategy of optimizing by tuning the interfacial interaction behavior proposed in this work could broaden horizons for establishing more efficient partially amorphized energy conversion materials.

We use Machine Learning (ML) to study firms’ joint pricing and ordering decisions for perishables in a dynamic loop. The research assumption is as follows: at the beginning of each period, the retailer prices both the new and old products and determines how many new products to order, while at the end of each period, the retailer decides how much remaining inventory should be carried over to the next period. The objective is to determine a joint pricing, ordering, and disposal strategy to maximize the total expected discounted profit. We establish a decision model based on Markov processes and use the Q-learning algorithm to obtain a near-optimal policy. From numerical analysis, we find that (i) the optimal number of old products carried over to the next period depends on the upper quantitative bound for old inventory; (ii) the optimal prices for new products are positively related to potential demand but negatively related to the decay rate, while the optimal prices for old products have a positive relationship with both; and (iii) ordering decisions are unrelated to the quantity of old products. When the decay rate is low or the variable ordering cost is high, the optimal orders exhibit a trapezoidal decline as the quantity of new products increases.

Although layered double hydroxides (LDH) stands out among various electrode materials with considerable theoretical capacities, the intrinsically poor electronic conductivity and inevitable aggregations of the fragile 2D structure impede their practical application in rechargeable metal-ion battery. In the present work, nickel/cobalt LDH hollow nanocages derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were synthesized. Afterward, the ultrafine metal sulfide nanoparticles were implanted into the LDH nanocages (LDH-S) through a in-situ sulfide method. Such a LDH-S architecture achieves an initial discharge capacity of 1387 mAh g-1 and stable specific capacity of 391 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 after 200 cycles while using as potassium-ion battery anode material. In addition, when LDH-S nanocages are decorated with carbon dots (CDs@LDH-S), it exhibits an excellent long-term lifespan achieving 188 mAh g-1 after 8000 cycles at 1.0 A g-1. With the aid of ex-situ characterization and density functional theory (DFT) calculation, the excellent performance of CDs@LDH-S can be contributed to the hetero-structure, in which the interlayer confinement of ultrafine metal sulfides enhances the electrical/ionic conductivity. Furthermore, the well-defined internal voids and functional shells promise intimate contact between the the electrolyte and electrode material, and also could avoid agglomeration during repeated potassium-ion insertion and extraction process. In addition, the presence of carbon dots (CDs) further enhances the electrical conductivity and stabilizes the electrode structure. This work proves that LDH-based anode with high capacity and low cost may be one of the promising candidates for potassium-ion storage and the introduction of CDs maybe an efficient way for construction of high-efficient electrode materials for potassium-ion storage.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate the prevalence of accelerated resting heart rates (RHRs) among freshmen in a university in Wuhan and to explore the influencing factors.MethodsWe conducted a cross-sectional survey and physical examinations in a university in Wuhan from 2015 to 2017, including 12428 freshmen. A binary logistic regression model was undertaken to identify the influencing factors associated with their accelerated RHRs.ResultsThe prevalence of accelerated RHRs was 47.5% among the 12428 freshmen surveyed. Accelerated RHR of freshmen was related to female (odds ratio [OR]: 1.484, 95% confidence interval [95% CI]: 1.368 - 1.610, P < 0.001) and high blood pressure (OR: 2.709, 95% CI: 2.212 - 3.318, P < 0.001). Compared with rural students, accelerated RHR was more likely to occur in urban students (OR: 1.452, 95% CI: 1.333 - 1.583, P < 0.001). Additionally, students who came from the central and the eastern regions (OR: 1.452, 95% CI: 1.254 - 1.682, P < 0.001; OR: 1.363, 95% CI: 1.149 - 1.618, P < 0.001), rather than who came from the western regions, were more likely to have accelerated RHRs.ConclusionsStudents with accelerated RHRs made up a high proportion of college freshmen entering the university in 2015 – 2017 in Wuhan. For people aged around 18 years, more attention was needed to pay to RHRs and specific measures such as blood pressure management were required in advance to prevent accelerated RHRs.Key questionsWhat is already known about this subject?Accelerated resting heart rate (RHR) could significantly increase the risk of suffering from cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).
