The electron dynamics and SiO2 etching profile evolution in capacitively coupled Ar/CHF3 plasmas driven by sawtooth-waveforms are investigated based on a one-dimensional fluid/Monte-Carlo (MC) model coupled with an etching profile evolution model. The effects of the sawtooth-waveforms synthesized from different numbers of consecutive harmonics, N, of a fundamental frequency of 13.56 MHz on the electron dynamics, ion and neutral transport, as well as the etching profile evolution are revealed in different mixtures of Ar/CHF3. By increasing N, a reduction in electronegativity, a decrease of the DC self-bias voltage, and a transition of the discharge mode from the Drift-Ambipolar (DA) to an {\alpha}-DA hybrid mode is observed accompanied by an enhanced plasma asymmetry. As the CHF3 gas admixture increases, the electronegativity initially increases and then decreases, following a similar trend as the absolute value of the DC self-bias voltage. This is mainly caused by the change in ionization, attachment and de-attachment reaction rates. The obtained results show that placing the substrate on the grounded electrode and using a higher number of harmonic frequencies (N) can achieve a faster etching rate, since higher ion fluxes can be obtained in these scenarios. Additionally, the Ar/CHF3 gas mixing ratio impacts the neutral surface coverage, which in turn affects the etching rate. Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder characterized by abrupt seizures. Although seizures may appear random, they are often preceded by early warning signs in neural signals, notably, critical slowing down, a phenomenon in which the system's recovery rate from perturbations declines when it approaches a critical point. Detecting these markers could enable preventive therapies. This paper introduces a multi-stable slow-fast system to capture critical slowing down in epileptic dynamics. We construct regions of attraction for stable states, shedding light on how dynamic bifurcations drive pathological oscillations. We derive the recovery rate after perturbations to formalize critical slowing down. A novel algorithm for detecting precursors to ictal transitions is presented, along with a proof-of-concept event-based feedback control strategy to prevent impending pathological oscillations. Objective: Ensuring the precision in motion tracking for MRI-guided Radiotherapy (MRIgRT) is crucial for the delivery of effective treatments. This study refined the motion tracking accuracy in MRIgRT through the innovation of an automatic real-time tracking method, leveraging an enhanced Tracking-Learning-Detection (ETLD) framework coupled with automatic segmentation. Methods: We developed a novel MRIgRT motion tracking method by integrating two primary methods: the ETLD framework and an improved Chan-Vese model (ICV), named ETLD+ICV. The TLD framework was upgraded to suit real-time cine MRI, including advanced image preprocessing, no-reference image quality assessment, an enhanced median-flow tracker, and a refined detector with dynamic search region adjustments. Additionally, ICV was combined for precise coverage of the target volume, which refined the segmented region frame by frame using tracking results, with key parameters optimized. Tested on 3.5D MRI scans from 10 patients with liver metastases, our method ensures precise tracking and accurate segmentation vital for MRIgRT. Results: An evaluation of 106,000 frames across 77 treatment fractions revealed sub-millimeter tracking errors of less than 0.8mm, with over 99% precision and 98% recall for all subjects, underscoring the robustness and efficacy of the ETLD. Moreover, the ETLD+ICV yielded a dice global score of more than 82% for all subjects, demonstrating the proposed method's extensibility and precise target volume coverage. Conclusions: This study successfully developed an automatic real-time motion tracking method for MRIgRT that markedly surpasses current methods. The novel method not only delivers exceptional precision in tracking and segmentation but also demonstrates enhanced adaptability to clinical demands, positioning it as an indispensable asset in the quest to augment the efficacy of radiotherapy treatments.

The well-posedness is investigated for distribution dependent stochastic differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in (\ff {\sq 5-1} 2,1)$ and distribution dependent multiplicative noise. To this aim, we introduce a H\"older space of probability measure paths which is a complete metric space under a new metric. Our arguments rely on a mix of contraction mapping principle on the H\"older space and fractional calculus tools. We also establish the large and moderate deviation principles for this type of equations via the weak convergence criteria in the factional Brownian motion setting, which extend previously known results in the additive setting., Comment: 50 pages

The ability to control nonclassical light emission from a single quantum emitter by an integrated cavity may unleash new perspectives for integrated photonic quantum applications. However, coupling a single quantum emitter to cavity within photonic circuitry towards creation of the Purcell-enhanced single-photon emission is elusive due to the complexity of integrating active devices in low-loss photonic circuits. Here we demonstrate a hybrid micro-ring resonator (HMRR) coupled with self-assembled quantum dots (QDs) for cavity-enhanced deterministic single-photon emission. The HMRR cavity supports whispering-gallery modes with quality factors up to 7800. By further introducing a micro-heater, we show that the photon emission of QDs can be locally and dynamically tuned over one free spectral ranges of the HMRR (~4 nm). This allows precise tuning of individual QDs in resonance with the cavity modes, thereby enhancing single-photon emission with a Purcell factor of about 4.9. Our results on the hybrid integrated cavities coupled with two-level quantum emitters emerge as promising devices for chip-based scalable photonic quantum applications.

This review provides a broad vision on the use of mechanistic mathematical models based on continuum mechanics to tackle current challenges in glaucoma research. At present, the advent of Artificial Intelligence and data-based models have resulted in significant progress in drug candidate selection, target identification and drug delivery. Mechanistic models (not based on data gathered beforehand, but on fundamental physical principles), and specifically those based on continuum mechanics, have the potential to contribute to a better understanding of glaucoma, too. So far, these models have expanded our understanding of ocular fluid dynamics, including descriptions of fluid flow profiles within the anterior chamber of the eye under glaucomatous conditions. With the emergence of models with complex multiphysics capabilities (not only on fluid dynamics, but also diffusion, heat transfer and fluid-structure interaction), there are now even greater possibilities for the application of mechanistic models to help with current challenges in glaucoma, such as the design of drug-releasing implants, novel glaucoma drainage devices, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery procedures, and laser peripheral iridotomy.

In non-Hermitian band structures, exceptional points generically form gapless lines or loops that give rise to extensively many defective eigenstates. In this work, we investigate how they non-trivially contribute to higher-order nonlinear responses by introducing unique singularities in the Berry curvature dipole (BCD) or Berry connection polarizability (BCP). Using a tilted 2D dissipative Dirac model ansatz that harbors an exceptional ring, broken inversion symmetry is shown to give rise to extrinsic (BCD) and intrinsic (BCP) nonlinear Hall behaviors unique to systems with extensive exceptional singularities. In particular, when the non-Hermiticity is increased while keeping the ring radius fixed, the BCD response exhibits a power-law increase, while the BCP response correspondingly decreases. The dissociation of quarkonium states with different binding energies produced in heavy-ion collisions is a powerful probe for investigating the formation and properties of the quark-gluon plasma. The ratio of production cross-sections of $\psi(2S)$ and $J/\psi$ mesons times the ratio of their branching fractions into the dimuon final state is measured as a function of centrality using data collected by the LHCb detector in PbPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\text{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV. Traditional 3D shape reconstruction techniques from multi-view images, such as structure from motion and multi-view stereo, primarily focus on opaque surfaces. Similarly, recent advances in neural radiance fields and its variants also primarily address opaque objects, encountering difficulties with the complex lighting effects caused by transparent materials. This paper introduces $\alpha$-NeuS, a new method for simultaneously reconstructing thin transparent objects and opaque objects based on neural implicit surfaces (NeuS). Our method leverages the observation that transparent surfaces induce local extreme values in the learned distance fields during neural volumetric rendering, contrasting with opaque surfaces that align with zero level sets. Traditional iso-surfacing algorithms such as marching cubes, which rely on fixed iso-values, are ill-suited for this data. We address this by taking the absolute value of the distance field and developing an optimization method that extracts level sets corresponding to both non-negative local minima and zero iso-values. We prove that the reconstructed surfaces are unbiased for both transparent and opaque objects. To validate our approach, we construct a benchmark that includes both real-world and synthetic scenes, demonstrating its practical utility and effectiveness. The individual variabilities of electroencephalogram signals pose great challenges to cross-subject motor imagery (MI) classification, especially for the data-scarce single-source to single-target (STS) scenario. The multi-scale spatial data distribution differences can not be fully eliminated in MI experiments for the topological structure and connection are the inherent properties of the human brain. Overall, no literature investigates the multi-scale spatial data distribution problem in STS cross-subject MI classification task, neither intra-subject nor inter-subject scenarios. In this paper, a novel multi-scale spatial domain adaptation network (MSSDAN) consists of both multi-scale spatial feature extractor (MSSFE) and deep domain adaptation method called multi-scale spatial domain adaptation (MSSDA) is proposed and verified, our goal is to integrate the principles of multi-scale brain topological structures in order to solve the multi-scale spatial data distribution difference problem.

The advent of ultra-massive multiple-input-multiple output systems holds great promise for next-generation communications, yet their channels exhibit hybrid far- and near- field beam-squint (HFBS) effect. In this paper, we not only overcome but also harness the HFBS effect to propose an integrated location sensing and communication (ILSC) framework. During the uplink training stage, user terminals (UTs) transmit reference signals for simultaneous channel estimation and location sensing. This stage leverages an elaborately designed hybrid-field projection matrix to overcome the HFBS effect and estimate the channel in compressive manner. Subsequently, the scatterers' locations can be sensed from the spherical wavefront based on the channel estimation results. By treating the sensed scatterers as virtual anchors, we employ a weighted least-squares approach to derive UT' s location. Moreover, we propose an iterative refinement mechanism, which utilizes the accurately estimated time difference of arrival of multipath components to enhance location sensing precision. In the following downlink data transmission stage, we leverage the acquired location information to further optimize the hybrid beamformer, which combines the beam broadening and focusing to mitigate the spectral efficiency degradation resulted from the HFBS effect. Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining of whole slide images (WSIs) is considered the gold standard for pathologists and medical practitioners for tumor diagnosis, surgical planning, and post-operative assessment. With the rapid advancement of deep learning technologies, the development of numerous models based on convolutional neural networks and transformer-based models has been applied to the precise segmentation of WSIs. However, due to privacy regulations and the need to protect patient confidentiality, centralized storage and processing of image data are impractical. Training a centralized model directly is challenging to implement in medical settings due to these privacy concerns.This paper addresses the dispersed nature and privacy sensitivity of medical image data by employing a federated learning framework, allowing medical institutions to collaboratively learn while protecting patient privacy. Additionally, to address the issue of original data reconstruction through gradient inversion during the federated learning training process, differential privacy introduces noise into the model updates, preventing attackers from inferring the contributions of individual samples, thereby protecting the privacy of the training data.Experimental results show that the proposed method, FedDP, minimally impacts model accuracy while effectively safeguarding the privacy of cancer pathology image data, with only a slight decrease in Dice, Jaccard, and Acc indices by 0.55%, 0.63%, and 0.42%, respectively. This approach facilitates cross-institutional collaboration and knowledge sharing while protecting sensitive data privacy, providing a viable solution for further research and application in the medical field., Comment: Accepted in BIBM2024

The process of reconstructing quantum states from experimental measurements, accomplished through quantum state tomography (QST), plays a crucial role in verifying and benchmarking quantum devices. A key challenge of QST is to find out how the accuracy of the reconstruction depends on the number of state copies used in the measurements. When multiple measurement settings are used, the total number of state copies is determined by multiplying the number of measurement settings with the number of repeated measurements for each setting. Due to statistical noise intrinsic to quantum measurements, a large number of repeated measurements is often used in practice. However, recent studies have shown that even with single-sample measurements--where only one measurement sample is obtained for each measurement setting--high accuracy QST can still be achieved with a sufficiently large number of different measurement settings. In this paper, we establish a theoretical understanding of the trade-off between the number of measurement settings and the number of repeated measurements per setting in QST. Our focus is primarily on low-rank density matrix recovery using Pauli measurements. We delve into the global landscape underlying the low-rank QST problem and demonstrate that the joint consideration of measurement settings and repeated measurements ensures a bounded recovery error for all second-order critical points, to which optimization algorithms tend to converge. This finding suggests the advantage of minimizing the number of repeated measurements per setting when the total number of state copies is held fixed. Additionally, we prove that the Wirtinger gradient descent algorithm can converge to the region of second-order critical points with a linear convergence rate. We have also performed numerical experiments to support our theoretical findings.

Embeddings have become a cornerstone in the functionality of large language models (LLMs) due to their ability to transform text data into rich, dense numerical representations that capture semantic and syntactic properties. These embedding vector databases serve as the long-term memory of LLMs, enabling efficient handling of a wide range of natural language processing tasks. However, the surge in popularity of embedding vector databases in LLMs has been accompanied by significant concerns about privacy leakage. Embedding vector databases are particularly vulnerable to embedding inversion attacks, where adversaries can exploit the embeddings to reverse-engineer and extract sensitive information from the original text data. Existing defense mechanisms have shown limitations, often struggling to balance security with the performance of downstream tasks. To address these challenges, we introduce Eguard, a novel defense mechanism designed to mitigate embedding inversion attacks. Eguard employs a transformer-based projection network and text mutual information optimization to safeguard embeddings while preserving the utility of LLMs. Our approach significantly reduces privacy risks, protecting over 95% of tokens from inversion while maintaining high performance across downstream tasks consistent with original embeddings.

Generative text-to-image models, such as Stable Diffusion, have demonstrated a remarkable ability to generate diverse, high-quality images. However, they are surprisingly inept when it comes to rendering human hands, which are often anatomically incorrect or reside in the "uncanny valley". In this paper, we propose a method HandCraft for restoring such malformed hands. This is achieved by automatically constructing masks and depth images for hands as conditioning signals using a parametric model, allowing a diffusion-based image editor to fix the hand's anatomy and adjust its pose while seamlessly integrating the changes into the original image, preserving pose, color, and style. Our plug-and-play hand restoration solution is compatible with existing pretrained diffusion models, and the restoration process facilitates adoption by eschewing any fine-tuning or training requirements for the diffusion models. We also contribute MalHand datasets that contain generated images with a wide variety of malformed hands in several styles for hand detector training and hand restoration benchmarking, and demonstrate through qualitative and quantitative evaluation that HandCraft not only restores anatomical correctness but also maintains the integrity of the overall image., Comment: Accepted by WACV 2025

The Bass Local Volatility Model (Bass-LV), as studied in \citep{henry2021bass}, stands out for its ability to eliminate the need for interpolation between maturities. This offers a significant advantage over traditional LV models. However, its performance highly depends on accurate construction of state price densities and the corresponding marginal distributions and efficient numerical convolutions which are necessary when solving the associated fixed point problems. In this paper, we propose a new approach combining local quadratic estimation and lognormal mixture tails for the construction of state price densities. We investigate computational efficiency of trapezoidal rule based schemes for numerical convolutions and show that they outperform commonly used Gauss-Hermite quadrature. We demonstrate the performance of the proposed method, both in standard option pricing models, as well as through a detailed market case study.

Ionized bubble sizes during reionization trace physical properties of the first galaxies. JWST's ability to spectroscopically confirm and measure Lyman-alpha (Ly$\alpha$) emission in sub-L* galaxies opens the door to mapping ionized bubbles in 3D. However, existing Lya-based bubble measurement strategies rely on constraints from single galaxies, which are limited by the large variability in intrinsic Ly$\alpha$ emission. As a first step, we present two bubble size estimation methods using Lya spectroscopy of ensembles of galaxies, enabling us to map ionized structures and marginalize over Ly$\alpha$ emission variability. We test our methods using Gpc-scale reionization simulations of the intergalactic medium (IGM). To map bubbles in the plane of the sky, we develop an edge detection method based on the asymmetry of Ly$\alpha$ transmission as a function of spatial position. To map bubbles along the line-of-sight, we develop an algorithm using the tight relation between Ly$\alpha$ transmission and the line-of-sight distance from galaxies to the nearest neutral IGM patch. Both methods can robustly recover bubbles with radius $\gtrsim$10 comoving Mpc, sufficient for mapping bubbles even in the early phases of reionization, when the IGM is $\sim70-90\%$ neutral. These methods require $\gtrsim$0.002-0.004 galaxies/cMpc$^3$, a $5\sigma$ Ly$\alpha$ equivalent width upper limit of $\lesssim$30\r{A} for the faintest targets, and redshift precision $\Delta z \lesssim 0.015$, feasible with JWST spectroscopy. Shallower observations will provide robust lower limits on bubble sizes. Traditional interactive environments limit agents' intelligence growth with fixed tasks. Recently, single-agent environments address this by generating new tasks based on agent actions, enhancing task diversity. We consider the decision-making problem in multi-agent settings, where tasks are further influenced by social connections, affecting rewards and information access. However, existing multi-agent environments lack a combination of adaptive physical surroundings and social connections, hindering the learning of intelligent behaviors. To address this, we introduce AdaSociety, a customizable multi-agent environment featuring expanding state and action spaces, alongside explicit and alterable social structures. As agents progress, the environment adaptively generates new tasks with social structures for agents to undertake. In AdaSociety, we develop three mini-games showcasing distinct social structures and tasks. Initial results demonstrate that specific social structures can promote both individual and collective benefits, though current reinforcement learning and LLM-based algorithms show limited effectiveness in leveraging social structures to enhance performance. Overall, AdaSociety serves as a valuable research platform for exploring intelligence in diverse physical and social settings. As a well-known open cluster, NGC 2323 (also called M50) has been widely investigated for over a hundred years and has always been considered a classical single cluster. In this work, with the help of Gaia DR3, we study the binary structure nature of this cluster. Although indistinguishable in the spatial space, the small but undeniable difference in the proper motion indicates that they may be two individual clusters. After investigating the properties of the two clusters, it is found that they have very close positions (three-dimensional $\Delta$pos = 12.3 pc, $\sigma_{\Delta \mathrm{pos}} = 3.4$ pc) and similar tangential velocities (two-dimensional $\Delta$V = 2.2 km s$^{-1}$, $\sigma_{\Delta \mathrm{V}} = 0.02$ km s$^{-1}$), indicating the existence of their physical association. Moreover, the best isochrone fitting ages of the two clusters are the same (158 Myr), further proving their possibly common origin. To comprehensively understand the formation and evolution of this binary cluster, we employ the PETAR $N$-body code to trace back their birthplace and deduce their dynamical evolutionary fate. With observational mean cluster properties, the simulations suggest that they may form together, and then orbit each other as a binary cluster for over 200 Myr. After that, because of their gradual mass loss, the two clusters will eventually separate and evolve into two independent clusters. Meanwhile, the numerical $N$-body simulation suggests that the less massive cluster is unlikely to be the cluster tidal tails created by the differential rotation of the Milky Way., Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures

The quantum Mpemba effect in open quantum systems has been extensively studied, but a comprehensive understanding of this phenomenon remains elusive. In this paper, we conduct an analytical investigation of the dissipative dynamics of single excitations in the Mosaic model. Surprisingly, we discover that the presence of asymptotic mobility edge, denoted as $E_c^{\infty}$, can lead to unique dissipation behavior, serving as a hallmark of quantum Mpemba effect. Specially, it is found that the energy level $E_c^{\infty}$ exhibits a global periodicity in real configuration, which acts to inhibit dissipation in the system. Conversely, when the system deviates from $E_c^{\infty}$, the quasidisorder sets in, leading to increased dissipative effects due to the broken of periodicity. Furthermore, we find that the rate of dissipation is closely linked to the localization of the initial state. Traffic flow forecasting is a crucial task in intelligent transport systems. Deep learning offers an effective solution, capturing complex patterns in time-series traffic flow data to enable the accurate prediction. However, deep learning models are prone to overfitting the intricate details of flow data, leading to poor generalisation. Recent studies suggest that decomposition-based deep ensemble learning methods may address this issue by breaking down a time series into multiple simpler signals, upon which deep learning models are built and ensembled to generate the final prediction. However, few studies have compared the performance of decomposition-based ensemble methods with non-decomposition-based ones which directly utilise raw time-series data. This work compares several decomposition-based and non-decomposition-based deep ensemble learning methods. Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) operations are expected to transform air transportation while challenging current air traffic management practices. By introducing a novel market-based mechanism, we address the problem of on-demand allocation of capacity-constrained airspace to AAM vehicles with heterogeneous and private valuations. We model airspace and air infrastructure as a collection of contiguous regions with constraints on the number of vehicles that simultaneously enter, stay, or exit each region. Vehicles request access to the airspace with trajectories spanning multiple regions at different times. We use the graph structure of our airspace model to formulate the allocation problem as a path allocation problem on a time-extended graph. To ensure the cost information of AAM vehicles remains private, we introduce a novel mechanism that allocates each vehicle a budget of "air-credits" and anonymously charges prices for traversing the edges of the time-extended graph. We seek to compute a competitive equilibrium that ensures that: (i) capacity constraints are satisfied, (ii) a strictly positive resource price implies that the sector capacity is fully utilized, and (iii) the allocation is integral and optimal for each AAM vehicle given current prices, without requiring access to individual vehicle utilities. However, a competitive equilibrium with integral allocations may not always exist. We provide sufficient conditions for the existence and computation of a fractional-competitive equilibrium, where allocations can be fractional. Building on these theoretical insights, we propose a distributed, iterative, two-step algorithm that: 1) computes a fractional competitive equilibrium, and 2) derives an integral allocation from this equilibrium. An amplitude analysis of the $D_{s1}(2460)^+\to D_{s}^{+}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ transition is performed simultaneously in $B^{0}\to D^{-}D_{s}^{+}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$, $B^{+}\to{\bar{D}}^{0} D_{s}^{+}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$, and $B^{0}\to D^{*-}D_{s}^{+}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ decays. The study is based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions recorded with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}=7,8,$ and $13\,$TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of $9\,\rm{fb}^{-1}$. A clear double-peak structure is observed in the $m(\pi^{+}\pi^{-})$ spectrum of the $D_{s1}(2460)^{+}\to D_{s}^{+}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ decay. The data can be described either with a model including $f_0(500)$, $f_0(980)$ and $f_2(1270)$ resonances, in which the contributions of $f_0(980)$ and $f_2(1270)$ are unexpectedly large, or with a model including $f_0(500)$, a doubly charged open-charm tetraquark state $T_{c\bar{s}}^{++}$ and its isospin partner $T_{c\bar{s}}^{0}$. If the former is considered implausible, the $T_{c\bar{s}}$ states are observed with high significance, and the data are consistent with isospin symmetry. When imposing isospin constraints between the two $T_{c\bar{s}}$ states, their mass and width are determined to be $2327\pm13\pm13\,$MeV and $96\pm16\,^{+170}_{-23}\,$MeV, respectively, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Cluster-weighted factor analyzers (CWFA) are a versatile class of mixture models designed to estimate the joint distribution of a random vector that includes a response variable along with a set of explanatory variables. They are particularly valuable in situations involving high dimensionality. This paper enhances CWFA models in two notable ways. First, it enables the prediction of multiple response variables while considering their potential interactions. Second, it identifies factors associated with disjoint groups of explanatory variables, thereby improving interpretability. This development leads to the introduction of the multivariate cluster-weighted disjoint factor analyzers (MCWDFA) model. An alternating expectation-conditional maximization algorithm is employed for parameter estimation. The effectiveness of the proposed model is assessed through an extensive simulation study that examines various scenarios. The proposal is applied to crime data from the United States, sourced from the UCI Machine Learning Repository, with the aim of capturing potential latent heterogeneity within communities and identifying groups of socio-economic features that are similarly associated with factors predicting crime rates. Semi-supervised video object segmentation (VOS) has been largely driven by space-time memory (STM) networks, which store past frame features in a spatiotemporal memory to segment the current frame via softmax attention. However, STM networks face memory limitations due to the quadratic complexity of softmax matching, restricting their applicability as video length and resolution increase. To address this, we propose LiVOS, a lightweight memory network that employs linear matching via linear attention, reformulating memory matching into a recurrent process that reduces the quadratic attention matrix to a constant-size, spatiotemporal-agnostic 2D state. To enhance selectivity, we introduce gated linear matching, where a data-dependent gate matrix is multiplied with the state matrix to control what information to retain or discard. Experiments on diverse benchmarks demonstrated the effectiveness of our method. It achieved 64.8 J&F on MOSE and 85.1 J&F on DAVIS, surpassing all non-STM methods and narrowing the gap with STM-based approaches. Noise-enhanced applications in open quantum walk (QW) have recently seen a surge due to their ability to improve performance. However, verifying the success of open QW is challenging, as mixed-state tomography is a resource-intensive process, and implementing all required measurements is almost impossible due to various physical constraints. To address this challenge, we present a neural-network-based method for reconstructing mixed states with a high fidelity (~97.5%) while costing only 50% of the number of measurements typically required for open discrete-time QW in one dimension. Our method uses a neural density operator that models the system and environment, followed by a generalized natural gradient descent procedure that significantly speeds up the training process. Moreover, we introduce a compact interferometric measurement device, improving the scalability of our photonic QW setup that enables experimental learning of mixed states. Our results demonstrate that highly expressive neural networks can serve as powerful alternatives to traditional state tomography.

Depth estimation under adverse conditions remains a significant challenge. Recently, multi-spectral depth estimation, which integrates both visible light and thermal images, has shown promise in addressing this issue. However, existing algorithms struggle with precise pixel-level feature matching, limiting their ability to fully exploit geometric constraints across different spectra. To address this, we propose a novel framework incorporating stereo depth estimation to enforce accurate geometric constraints. In particular, we treat the visible light and thermal images as a stereo pair and utilize a Cross-modal Feature Matching (CFM) Module to construct a cost volume for pixel-level matching. To mitigate the effects of poor lighting on stereo matching, we introduce Degradation Masking, which leverages robust monocular thermal depth estimation in degraded regions. Our method achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance on the Multi-Spectral Stereo (MS2) dataset, with qualitative evaluations demonstrating high-quality depth maps under varying lighting conditions.

Helical Kelvin waves were conjectured to exist for the 3D Euler equations in Lucas and Dritschel \cite{LucDri} (as well as in \cite{Chu}) by studying dispersion relation for infinitesimal linear perturbations of a circular helically symmetric vortex patch. This paper aims to rigorously establish the existence of these $m$-fold symmetric helical Kelvin waves, in both simply and doubly connected cases, for the 3D Euler equations. The construction is based on linearization of contour dynamics equations and bifurcation theory. Our results rigorously verify the prediction in aforementioned papers and extend $m$-waves of Kelvin from the 2D Euler equations to the 3D helically symmetric Euler equations.

The attached-eddy model (AEM) predicts mean velocity and streamwise velocity variance profiles that follow a logarithmic shape in the overlap region of high Reynolds number wall-bounded turbulent flows. Moreover, the AEM coefficients are presumed to attain asymptotically constant values at very high Reynolds numbers. Here, the logarithmic behaviour of the AEM predictions in the near-neutral atmospheric surface layer is examined using sonic anemometer measurements from a 62-m meteorological tower located in the Eastern Snake River Plain, Idaho, US. Utilizing an extensive 210-day dataset, the inertial sublayer (ISL) is first identified by analyzing the measured momentum flux and mean velocity profile. The logarithmic behaviour of the streamwise velocity variance and the associated `-1' scaling of the streamwise velocity energy spectra are then investigated. The findings indicate that the Townsend-Perry coefficient ($A_1$) is influenced by mild non-stationarity that manifests itself as a Reynolds number dependence. After excluding non-stationary runs and requiring a Reynolds number higher than $4 \times 10^7$, the inferred $A_1$ converges to values ranging between 1 and 1.25, consistent with laboratory experiments. Moreover, the independence of the normalized vertical velocity variance from the wall-normal distance in the ISL is further checked and the constant coefficient value agrees with reported laboratory experiments at very high Reynolds numbers as well as many surface layer experiments. Furthermore, nine benchmark cases selected through a restrictive quality control reveal a closer relationship between the `-1' scaling in the streamwise velocity energy spectrum and the logarithmic behaviour of streamwise velocity variance at higher Reynolds numbers, though no direct equivalence between them is observed.

Learning-task oriented semantic communication is pivotal in optimizing transmission efficiency by extracting and conveying essential semantics tailored to specific tasks, such as image reconstruction and classification. Nevertheless, the challenge of eavesdropping poses a formidable threat to semantic privacy due to the open nature of wireless communications. In this paper, intelligent reflective surface (IRS)-enhanced secure semantic communication (IRS-SSC) is proposed to guarantee the physical layer security from a task-oriented semantic perspective. Specifically, a multi-layer codebook is exploited to discretize continuous semantic features and describe semantics with different numbers of bits, thereby meeting the need for hierarchical semantic representation and further enhancing the transmission efficiency. Novel semantic security metrics, i.e., secure semantic rate (S-SR) and secure semantic spectrum efficiency (S-SSE), are defined to map the task-oriented security requirements at the application layer into the physical layer. To achieve artificial intelligence (AI)-native secure communication, we propose a noise disturbance enhanced hybrid deep reinforcement learning (NdeHDRL)-based resource allocation scheme. This scheme dynamically maximizes the S-SSE by jointly optimizing the bits for semantic representations, reflective coefficients of the IRS, and the subchannel assignment. Moreover, we propose a novel semantic context awared state space (SCA-SS) to fusion the high-dimensional semantic space and the observable system state space, which enables the agent to perceive semantic context and solves the dimensional catastrophe problem. Simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of our proposed schemes in both enhancing the security performance and the S-SSE compared to several benchmark schemes.

Vision-language pre-training (VLP) models excel at interpreting both images and text but remain vulnerable to multimodal adversarial examples (AEs). Advancing the generation of transferable AEs, which succeed across unseen models, is key to developing more robust and practical VLP models. Previous approaches augment image-text pairs to enhance diversity within the adversarial example generation process, aiming to improve transferability by expanding the contrast space of image-text features. However, these methods focus solely on diversity around the current AEs, yielding limited gains in transferability. To address this issue, we propose to increase the diversity of AEs by leveraging the intersection regions along the adversarial trajectory during optimization. Specifically, we propose sampling from adversarial evolution triangles composed of clean, historical, and current adversarial examples to enhance adversarial diversity. We provide a theoretical analysis to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed adversarial evolution triangle. Moreover, we find that redundant inactive dimensions can dominate similarity calculations, distorting feature matching and making AEs model-dependent with reduced transferability. Hence, we propose to generate AEs in the semantic image-text feature contrast space, which can project the original feature space into a semantic corpus subspace. The proposed semantic-aligned subspace can reduce the image feature redundancy, thereby improving adversarial transferability. Extensive experiments across different datasets and models demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively improve adversarial transferability and outperform state-of-the-art adversarial attack methods. The topological properties observed in iron-based superconductors extend our understanding of vortex Majorana quasiparticle excitations in unexpected ways. Vortex Majorana physics has been extensively studied within the context of the topologically protected surface Dirac state. By employing an in-situ strain device, we demonstrate that uniaxial strain can generate Majorana zero modes out of the topological Dirac semimetal bulk state in LiFeAs. Uniaxial strain along [100] direction is found to enhance the band renormalization of LiFeAs, effectively reducing the energy separation between the Fermi level and the topological Dirac semimetal state, and breaking C4 symmetry. Using scanning tunneling microscopy, we observe the evolution of vortex bound states in the topological Dirac semimetal state region, accompanied by the emergence of Majorana zero modes and vortex bound states contributed by the bulk band. Our work provides a controllable method for experimentally engineering Majorana physics in iron-based superconductors, and offers valuable insights into the topological Dirac semimetal state with intrinsic s-wave superconductivity., Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures

In-context learning (ICL) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) have gained attention for their ability to enhance LLMs' reasoning by incorporating external knowledge but suffer from limited contextual window size, leading to insufficient information injection. To this end, we propose a novel framework, RuAG, to automatically distill large volumes of offline data into interpretable first-order logic rules, which are injected into LLMs to boost their reasoning capabilities. Our method begins by formulating the search process relying on LLMs' commonsense, where LLMs automatically define head and body predicates. Then, RuAG applies Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) to address the combinational searching space and efficiently discover logic rules from data. The resulting logic rules are translated into natural language, allowing targeted knowledge injection and seamless integration into LLM prompts for LLM's downstream task reasoning. We evaluate our framework on public and private industrial tasks, including natural language processing, time-series, decision-making, and industrial tasks, demonstrating its effectiveness in enhancing LLM's capability over diverse tasks.

Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill (GKP) encoding holds promise for continuous-variable fault-tolerant quantum computing. While an ideal GKP encoding is abstract and impractical due to its nonphysical nature, approximate versions provide viable alternatives. Conventional approximate GKP codewords are superpositions of multiple {large-amplitude} squeezed coherent states. This feature ensures correctability against single-photon loss and dephasing {at short times}, but also increases the difficulty of preparing the codewords. To minimize this trade-off, we utilize a neural network to generate optimal approximate GKP states, allowing effective error correction with just a few squeezed coherent states. We find that such optimized GKP codes outperform the best conventional ones, requiring fewer squeezed coherent states, while maintaining simple and generalized stabilizer operators. Specifically, the former outperform the latter with just \textit{one third} of the number of squeezed coherent states at a squeezing level of 9.55 dB. This optimization drastically decreases the complexity of codewords while improving error correctability.

The pervasive use of the Internet and social media introduces significant challenges to automated sentiment analysis, particularly for sarcastic expressions in user-generated content. Sarcasm conveys negative emotions through ostensibly positive or exaggerated language, complicating its detection within natural language processing tasks. To address this, we propose an innovative sarcasm detection model integrating Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Gated Recurrent Units (GRU), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), and Multi-Head Attention mechanisms. The CNN component captures local n-gram features, while GRU and LSTM layers model sequential dependencies and contextual information. Multi-Head Attention enhances the model's focus on relevant parts of the input, improving interpretability. Experiments on two sarcasm detection datasets, Headlines and Riloff, demonstrate that the model achieves an accuracy of 81.20% and an F1 score of 80.77% on Headlines, and an accuracy of 79.72% with an F1 score of 61.39% on Riloff, outperforming traditional models. These results validate the effectiveness of our hybrid approach for sarcasm detection in social media texts.

The Water Cherenkov Detector Array (WCDA) is one of the components of Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) and can monitor any sources over two-thirds of the sky for up to 7 hours per day with >98\% duty cycle. In this work, we report the detection of two outbursts of the Fanaroff-Riley I radio galaxy NGC 1275 that were detected by LHAASO-WCDA between November 2022 and January 2023 with statistical significance of 5.2~$\sigma$ and 8.3~$\sigma$. The observed spectral energy distribution in the range from 500 GeV to 3 TeV is fitted by a power-law with a best-fit spectral index of $\alpha=-3.37\pm0.52$ and $-3.35\pm0.29$, respectively. The outburst flux above 0.5~TeV was ($4.55\pm 4.21)\times~10^{-11}~\rm cm^{-2}~s^{-1}$ and ($3.45\pm 1.78)\times~10^{-11}~\rm cm^{-2}~s^{-1}$, corresponding to 60\%, 45\% of Crab Nebula flux. Variation analysis reveals the variability time-scale of days at the TeV energy band. Miniaturized spectrometers for Raman spectroscopy have the potential to open up a new chapter in sensing. Raman spectroscopy is essential for material characterization and biomedical diagnostics, however, its weak signal and the need for sub-nanometer resolution pose challenges. Conventional spectrometers, with footprints proportional to optical throughput and resolution, are difficult to integrate into compact devices such as wearables. Waveguide-based Fourier Transform Spectrometers (FTS) enable compact spectrometers, and multi-aperture designs can achieve high throughput for applications such as Raman spectroscopy, however, experimental research in this domain remains limited. In this work, we present a multi-aperture SiN waveguide-based FTS overcoming these limitations and enabling Raman spectroscopy of isopropyl alcohol, glucose, Paracetamol, and Ibuprofen with enhanced throughput. Our spectrometer chip, fabricated on a 200 mm SiN wafer, with 160 edge-coupled waveguide apertures connected to an array of ultra-compact interferometers and a small footprint of just 1.6 mm x 4.8 mm, achieves a spectral range of 40 nm and a resolution of 0.5 nm. Experimental results demonstrate that least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression significantly enhances Raman spectrum reconstruction. Binary code search plays a crucial role in applications like software reuse detection. Currently, existing models are typically based on either internal code semantics or a combination of function call graphs (CG) and internal code semantics. However, these models have limitations. Internal code semantic models only consider the semantics within the function, ignoring the inter-function semantics, making it difficult to handle situations such as function inlining. The combination of CG and internal code semantics is insufficient for addressing complex real-world scenarios. To address these limitations, we propose BinEnhance, a novel framework designed to leverage the inter-function semantics to enhance the expression of internal code semantics for binary code search. Specifically, BinEnhance constructs an External Environment Semantic Graph (EESG), which establishes a stable and analogous external environment for homologous functions by using different inter-function semantic relations (e.g., call, location, data-co-use). After the construction of EESG, we utilize the embeddings generated by existing internal code semantic models to initialize nodes of EESG. Finally, we design a Semantic Enhancement Model (SEM) that uses Relational Graph Convolutional Networks (RGCNs) and a residual block to learn valuable external semantics on the EESG for generating the enhanced semantics embedding. In addition, BinEnhance utilizes data feature similarity to refine the cosine similarity of semantic embeddings. We conduct experiments under six different tasks (e.g., under function inlining scenario) and the results illustrate the performance and robustness of BinEnhance. The application of BinEnhance to HermesSim, Asm2vec, TREX, Gemini, and Asteria on two public datasets results in an improvement of Mean Average Precision (MAP) from 53.6% to 69.7%. We study the optimal allocation of prizes in rank-order tournaments with loss averse agents. Prize sharing becomes increasingly optimal with loss aversion because more equitable prizes reduce the marginal psychological cost of anticipated losses. Furthermore, loss aversion can boost effort if prizes are sufficiently equitable, but otherwise effort declines with loss aversion. Overall, these results give credence to more equitable allocations of competitive rewards. A win-win scenario is where optimal prizes are equitable even under loss neutrality, in which case the principal benefits from agents' loss aversion.

Quasi-phase matching (QPM) is a technique extensively utilized in nonlinear optics for enhancing the efficiency and stability of frequency conversion processes. However, the conventional QPM relies on periodically poled ferroelectric crystals, which are limited in availability. The 3R phase of molybdenum disulfide (3R-MoS2), a transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDc) with the broken inversion symmetry, stands out as a promising candidate for QPM, enabling efficient nonlinear process. Here, we experimentally demonstrate the QPM at nanoscale, utilizing van der Waals stacking of 3R-MoS2 layers with specific orientation to realize second harmonic generation (SHG) enhancement beyond the non QPM limit. We have also demonstrated enhanced spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) via QPM of 3R-MoS2 homo-structure, enabling more efficient generation of entangled photon pairs. The tunable capacity of 3R-MoS2 van der Waals stacking provides a platform for tuning phase-matching condition. This technique opens interesting possibilities for potential applications in nonlinear process and quantum technology.

The rise of large language models (LLMs) has revolutionized user interactions with knowledge-based systems, enabling chatbots to synthesize vast amounts of information and assist with complex, exploratory tasks. However, LLM-based chatbots often struggle to provide personalized support, particularly when users start with vague queries or lack sufficient contextual information. This paper introduces the Collaborative Assistant for Personalized Exploration (CARE), a system designed to enhance personalization in exploratory tasks by combining a multi-agent LLM framework with a structured user interface. CARE's interface consists of a Chat Panel, Solution Panel, and Needs Panel, enabling iterative query refinement and dynamic solution generation. The multi-agent framework collaborates to identify both explicit and implicit user needs, delivering tailored, actionable solutions. In a within-subject user study with 22 participants, CARE was consistently preferred over a baseline LLM chatbot, with users praising its ability to reduce cognitive load, inspire creativity, and provide more tailored solutions. Our findings highlight CARE's potential to transform LLM-based systems from passive information retrievers to proactive partners in personalized problem-solving and exploration.

Proteins, essential to biological systems, perform functions intricately linked to their three-dimensional structures. Understanding the relationship between protein structures and their amino acid sequences remains a core challenge in protein modeling. While traditional protein foundation models benefit from pre-training on vast unlabeled datasets, they often struggle to capture critical co-evolutionary information, which evolutionary-based methods excel at. In this study, we introduce a novel pre-training strategy for protein foundation models that emphasizes the interactions among amino acid residues to enhance the extraction of both short-range and long-range co-evolutionary features from sequence data. Trained on a large-scale protein sequence dataset, our model demonstrates superior generalization ability, outperforming established baselines of similar size, including the ESM model, across diverse downstream tasks. Experimental results confirm the model's effectiveness in integrating co-evolutionary information, marking a significant step forward in protein sequence-based modeling.

Despite significant progress in visual decoding with fMRI data, its high cost and low temporal resolution limit widespread applicability. To address these challenges, we introduce RealMind, a novel EEG-based visual decoding framework that leverages multi-modal models to efficiently interpret semantic information. By integrating semantic and geometric consistency learning, RealMind enhances feature alignment, leading to improved decoding performance. Our framework achieves a 56.73\% Top-5 accuracy in a 200-way retrieval task and a 26.59\% BLEU-1 score in a 200-way visual captioning task, representing the first successful attempt at zero-shot visual captioning using EEG data. RealMind provides a robust, adaptable, and cost-effective alternative to fMRI-based methods, offering scalable solutions for EEG-based visual decoding in practical applications.

Large language models (LLMs) show impressive performance in solving complex languagetasks. However, its large number of parameterspresent significant challenges for the deployment and application of the model on edge devices. Compressing large language models to low bits can enable them to run on resource-constrained devices, often leading to performance degradation. To address this problem, we propose gradient-aware weight quantization (GWQ), the first quantization approach for low-bit weight quantization that leverages gradients to localize outliers, requiring only a minimal amount of calibration data for outlier detection. GWQ retains the weights corresponding to the top 1% outliers preferentially at FP16 precision, while the remaining non-outlier weights are stored in a low-bit format. GWQ found experimentally that utilizing the sensitive weights in the gradient localization model is more scientific compared to utilizing the sensitive weights in the Hessian matrix localization model. Compared to current quantization methods, GWQ can be applied to multiple language models and achieves lower PPL on the WikiText2 and C4 dataset. In the zero-shot task, GWQ quantized models have higher accuracy compared to other quantization methods.GWQ is also suitable for multimodal model quantization, and the quantized Qwen-VL family model is more accurate than other methods. zero-shot target detection task dataset RefCOCO outperforms the current stat-of-the-arts method SPQR. GWQ achieves 1.2x inference speedup in comparison to the original model, and effectively reduces the inference memory.

Quantum architecture search (QAS) represents a fundamental challenge in quantum machine learning. Unlike previous methods that treat it as a static search process, from a perspective on QAS as an item retrieval task in vast search space, we decompose the search process into dynamic alternating phases of coarse and fine-grained knowledge learning. We propose quantum untrained-explored synergistic trained architecture (QUEST-A),a framework through coarse-grained untrained filtering for rapid search space reduction and fine-grained trained focusing for precise space refinement in progressive QAS. QUEST-A develops an evolutionary mechanism with knowledge accumulation and reuse to enhance multi-level knowledge transfer in architecture searching. Experiments demonstrate QUEST-A's superiority over existing methods: enhancing model expressivity in signal representation, maintaining high performance across varying complexities in image classification, and achieving order-of-magnitude precision improvements in variational quantum eigensolver tasks, providing a transferable methodology for QAS.

Virtual Network Embedding (VNE) is a challenging combinatorial optimization problem that refers to resource allocation associated with hard and multifaceted constraints in network function virtualization (NFV). Existing works for VNE struggle to handle such complex constraints, leading to compromised system performance and stability. In this paper, we propose a \textbf{CON}straint-\textbf{A}ware \textbf{L}earning framework for VNE, named \textbf{CONAL}, to achieve efficient constraint management. Concretely, we formulate the VNE problem as a constrained Markov decision process with violation tolerance. This modeling approach aims to improve both resource utilization and solution feasibility by precisely evaluating solution quality and the degree of constraint violation. We also propose a reachability-guided optimization with an adaptive reachability budget method that dynamically assigns budget values. This method achieves persistent zero violation to guarantee the feasibility of VNE solutions and more stable policy optimization by handling instances without any feasible solution. Furthermore, we propose a constraint-aware graph representation method to efficiently learn cross-graph relations and constrained path connectivity in VNE. Finally, extensive experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our proposed method over state-of-the-art baselines. Our code is available at https://github.com/GeminiLight/conal-vne.

Identifying mutations of SARS-CoV-2 strains associated with their phenotypic changes is critical for pandemic prediction and prevention. We compared an explainable convolutional neural network (CNN) and the traditional genome-wide association study (GWAS) on the mutations associated with WHO labels of SARS-CoV-2, a proxy for virulence phenotypes. We trained a CNN classification model that can predict genomic sequences into Variants of Concern (VOCs), and then applied Shapley Additive explanations (SHAP) model to identify mutations that are important for the correct predictions. For comparison, we performed traditional GWAS to identify mutations associated with VOCs. Comparison of the two approaches shows that the explainable neural network approach can more effectively reveal known nucleotide substitutions associated with VOCs, such as those in the spike gene regions. Our results suggest that explainable neural networks for genomic sequences offer a promising alternative to the traditional genome wide analysis approaches.

We present an novel framework for efficiently and effectively extending the powerful continuous diffusion processes to discrete modeling. Previous approaches have suffered from the discrepancy between discrete data and continuous modeling. Our study reveals that the absence of guidance from discrete boundaries in learning probability contours is one of the main reasons. To address this issue, we propose a two-step forward process that first estimates the boundary as a prior distribution and then rescales the forward trajectory to construct a boundary conditional diffusion model. The reverse process is proportionally adjusted to guarantee that the learned contours yield more precise discrete data. Experimental results indicate that our approach achieves strong performance in both language modeling and discrete image generation tasks. In language modeling, our approach surpasses previous state-of-the-art continuous diffusion language models in three translation tasks and a summarization task, while also demonstrating competitive performance compared to auto-regressive transformers. We present AutoGLM, a new series in the ChatGLM family, designed to serve as foundation agents for autonomous control of digital devices through Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs). While foundation models excel at acquiring human knowledge, they often struggle with decision-making in dynamic real-world environments, limiting their progress toward artificial general intelligence. This limitation underscores the importance of developing foundation agents capable of learning through autonomous environmental interactions by reinforcing existing models. Focusing on Web Browser and Phone as representative GUI scenarios, we have developed AutoGLM as a practical foundation agent system for real-world GUI interactions. Our approach integrates a comprehensive suite of techniques and infrastructures to create deployable agent systems suitable for user delivery. Through this development, we have derived two key insights: First, the design of an appropriate "intermediate interface" for GUI control is crucial, enabling the separation of planning and grounding behaviors, which require distinct optimization for flexibility and accuracy respectively. Second, we have developed a novel progressive training framework that enables self-evolving online curriculum reinforcement learning for AutoGLM. Our evaluations demonstrate AutoGLM's effectiveness across multiple domains. For web browsing, AutoGLM achieves a 55.2% success rate on VAB-WebArena-Lite (improving to 59.1% with a second attempt) and 96.2% on OpenTable evaluation tasks. In Android device control, AutoGLM attains a 36.2% success rate on AndroidLab (VAB-Mobile) and 89.7% on common tasks in popular Chinese APPs.

In the context of widespread global information sharing, information security and privacy protection have become focal points. Steganographic systems enhance information security by embedding confidential information into public carriers; however, existing generative text steganography methods face challenges in handling the long-tail distribution of candidate word pools, which impacts the imperceptibility of steganographic information. This paper proposes a quality control theory for steganographic text generation based on information entropy constraints, exploring the relationship between the imperceptibility of steganographic texts and information entropy. By controlling the information entropy of the candidate word pool within a specific range, we optimize the imperceptibility of the steganographic text. We establish upper and lower bounds for information entropy and introduce an adaptive truncation method to balance semantic coherence and lexical diversity. Experimental results demonstrate that reasonably controlling the candidate pool size and information entropy thresholds significantly enhances the quality and detection resistance of steganographic texts, showcasing broad application potential in the field of natural language processing.
