We propose and analyze a novel approach to implement ensemble qubits. The required anharmonicity is provided by a simultaneous decay of two atoms (i.e., two-atom decay), which is achieved by fully quantum degenerate parametric amplification. For an atomic ensemble, the two-atom decay generates and stabilizes a 2D quantum manifold, which is spanned by the ground and single-excited superradiant states. Moreover, this nonlinear decay process can strongly suppress transitions to higher-excited superradiant states, and convert residual transitions into an effective decay from the single-excitation superradiant state to the ground state. Our method does not require Rydberg dipole blockade and, thus, strong atom-atom interactions, compared to previous work. This indicates that it can be applied to typical atomic or spin ensembles in simple experimental setups. Remarkably, our idea is compatible with the cavity protection mechanism, and therefore spin dephasing due to inhomogeneous broadening can be strongly suppressed. Power capacitor device is a widely used reactive power compensation equipment in power transmission and distribution system which can easily have internal fault and therefore affects the safe operation of the power system. An intelligent non-destructive testing (I-NDT) method based on ICT is proposed to test the quality of power capacitors automatically in this study. The internal structure of power capacitors would be scanned by the ICT device and then defects could be recognized by the SSD algorithm. Moreover, the data data augmentation algorithm is used to extend the image set to improve the stability and accuracy of the trained SSD model.

Over the past fifteen years, tremendous efforts have been devoted to realizing topological superconductivity in realistic materials and systems, predominately propelled by their promising application potentials in fault-tolerant quantum information processing. In this article, we attempt to give an overview on some of the main developments in this field, focusing in particular on two-dimensional crystalline superconductors that possess either intrinsic p-wave pairing or nontrivial band topology. We first classify the three different conceptual schemes to achieve topological superconductor (TSC), enabled by real-space superconducting proximity effect, reciprocal-space superconducting proximity effect, and intrinsic TSC. Whereas the first scheme has so far been most extensively explored, the subtle difference between the other two remains to be fully substantiated. We then move on to candidate intrinsic or p-wave superconductors, including Sr2RuO4, UTe2, Pb3Bi, and graphene-based systems. For TSC systems that rely on proximity effects, the emphases are mainly on the coexistence of superconductivity and nontrivial band topology, as exemplified by transition metal dichalcogenides, cobalt pnictides, and stanene, all in monolayer or few-layer regime. The review completes with discussions on the three dominant tuning schemes of strain, gating, and ferroelectricity in acquiring one or both essential ingredients of the TSC, and optimizations of such tuning capabilities may prove to be decisive in our drive towards braiding of Majorana zero modes and demonstration of topological qubits.

We propose a mechanism to engineer an $n$-photon blockade in a nonlinear cavity with an $n$-photon parametric drive $\lambda(\hat{a}^{\dag n}+\hat{a}^n)$. When an $n$-photon-excitation resonance condition is satisfied, the presence of n photons in the cavity suppresses the absorption of the subsequent photons. To confirm the validity of this proposal, we study the n-photon blockade in an atom-cavity system, a Kerr-nonlinear resonator, and two-coupled Kerr nonlinear resonators. Our results demonstrate that $n$-photon bunching and $(n+1)$-photon antibunching can be simultaneously obtained in these systems. This effect is due both to the anharmonic energy ladder and to the nature of the $n$-photon drive. To show the importance of the drive, we compare the results of the $n$-photon drive with a coherent (one-photon) drive, proving the enhancement of antibunching in the parametric-drive case. This proposal is general and can be applied to realize the $n$-photon blockade in other nonlinear systems.

Spin squeezing is one of the most attractive methods for realizing high-precision metrology. In this paper, we propose a protocol for generating spin squeezing in an atomic ensemble via a fully quantum degenerate parametric amplifier. We discuss the properties of generating spin squeezing with and without driving the pump cavity. Numerical simulation results show that the generated spin squeezing strength is sizable, and is able to be comparable to that obtained using a two-axis twisting (TAT) model. Moreover, we demonstrate that the protocol is experimentally feasible by introducing the corresponding experimental parameters. Therefore, the proposed protocol provides a promising approach to realize spin squeezing in photon-spin coupling systems.

The experimental observation of quantum phase transitions predicted by the quantum Rabi model in quantum critical systems is usually challenging due to the lack of signature experimental observables associated with them. Here, we describe a method to identify the dynamical critical phenomenon in the quantum Rabi model consisting of a three-level atom and a cavity at the quantum phase transition. Such a critical phenomenon manifests itself as a sudden change of steady-state output photons in the system driven by two classical fields, when both the atom and the cavity are initially unexcited. The process occurs as the high-frequency pump field is converted into the low-frequency Stokes field and multiple cavity photons in the normal phase, while this conversion cannot occur in the superradiant phase. Schr\"{o}dinger cat states, consisting of superpositions of macroscopically distinct states, provide key resources for a large number of emerging quantum technologies in quantum information processing. Here we propose how to generate and manipulate mechanical and optical Schr\"{o}dinger cat states with distinguishable superposition components by exploiting the unique properties of cavity optomechanical systems based on Bose-Einstein condensate. Specifically, we show that in comparison with its solid-state counterparts, almost a $3$ order of magnitude enhancement in the size of the mechanical Schr\"{o}dinger cat state could be achieved, characterizing a much smaller overlap between its two superposed coherent-state components. By exploiting this generated cat state, we further show how to engineer the quadrature squeezing of the mechanical mode. Besides, we also provide an efficient method to create multicomponent optical Schr\"{o}dinger cat states in our proposed scheme. Rapid and direct monitoring of dissolved gases in liquids under strong electromagnetic interference is very important. Electronic gas sensors that can be placed into liquids are difficult to work reliably under strong electromagnetic fields. The existing optical monitoring techniques for dissolved gases all require gas-liquid separation, and are conducted in gas phase, which have poor timeliness. In this paper, a dissolved gas monitoring probe without liquid-gas separation under strong electromagnetic interference is proposed. We take transformer oil-dissolved acetylene monitoring as an example, an oil-core photonic crystal fiber photothermal interferometry probe is proposed and demonstrates the feasibility of trace oil-dissolved acetylene directly monitoring without oil-gas separation. The minimum detection limit reaches 1.4 ppm, and the response time is about 70 minutes. Due to the good insulation performance and the compact size, the all-fiber probe provides applicability to be placed into transformer oil and perform on-line monitoring under strong electromagnetic interference., Comment: 21 pages, 7 figures

We provide a complete theoretical interpretation of the metallic broken spin/valley symmetry states recently discovered in ABC trilayer graphene (ABC) perturbed by a large transverse displacement field. Our conclusions combine insights from ABC trilayer graphene electronic structure models and mean field theory, and are guided by precise magneto-oscillation Fermi-surface-area measurements. We conclude that the physics of ABC trilayer graphene is shaped by the principle of momentum-space condensation, which favors Fermi surface reconstructions enabled by broken spin/valley flavor symmetries when the single-particle bands imply thin annular Fermi seas. We find one large outer Fermi surface enclosed majority-flavor states and one or more small inner hole-like Fermi surfaces enclosed minority-flavor states that are primarily responsible for nematic order. The smaller surfaces can rotate along a ring of van-Hove singularities or reconstruct into multiple Fermi surfaces with little cost in energy. We propose that the latter property is responsible for the quantum oscillation frequency fractionalization seen experimentally in some regions of the carrier-density/displacement-field phase diagram., Comment: 4+2 pages

We employ a functional renormalization group approach to ascertain the pairing mechanism and symmetry of the superconducting phase observed in rhombohedral trilayer graphene. Superconductivity in this system occurs in a regime of carrier density and displacement field with a weakly distorted annular Fermi sea. We find that repulsive Coulomb interactions can induce electron pairing on the Fermi surface by taking advantage of momentum-space structure associated with the finite width of the Fermi sea annulus. The degeneracy between spin-singlet and spin-triplet pairing is lifted by valley-exchange interactions that strengthen under the RG flow and develop nontrivial momentum-space structure. We find that the leading pairing instability is $d$-wave-like and spin-singlet, and that the theoretical phase diagram versus carrier density and displacement field agrees qualitatively with experiment., Comment: 7+24 pages, 5+14 figures, 1+3 tables

While the squeezing of a propagating field can, in principle, be made arbitrarily strong, the cavity-field squeezing is subject to the well-known 3 dB limit, and thus has limited applications. Here, we propose the use of a fully quantum degenerate parametric amplifier (DPA) to beat this squeezing limit. Specifically, we show that by {\it simply} applying a two-tone driving to the signal mode, the pump mode can, {\it counterintuitively}, be driven by the photon loss of the signal mode into a squeezed steady state with, in principle, an {\it arbitrarily high} degree of squeezing. Furthermore, we demonstrate that this intracavity squeezing can increase the signal-to-noise ratio of longitudinal qubit readout {\it exponentially} with the degree of squeezing. Correspondingly, an improvement of the measurement error by {\it many orders of magnitude} can be achieved even for modest parameters. In stark contrast, using intracavity squeezing of the semiclassical DPA {\it cannot} practically increase the signal-to-noise ratio and thus improve the measurement error. Cat states, which were initially proposed to manifest macroscopic superpositions, play an outstanding role in fundamental aspects of quantum dynamics. In addition, they have potential applications in quantum computation and quantum sensing. However, cat states are vulnerable to dissipation, which puts the focus of cat-state generation on higher speed and increased robustness. Dissipative cat-state generation is a common approach based on the nonlinear coupling between a lossy pump field and a half-frequency signal field. In such an approach, the pump field is usually kept in equilibrium, which limits the cat-state generation. We show that the equilibrium requirement can be removed by leveraging a synchronous pump method. In this nonequilibrium regime, the speed of the cat-state generation can be increased by one order of magnitude, and the robustness to single-photon loss can be enhanced. The realization of synchronous pumps is discussed for both time-multiplexed systems and standing modes.

2D materials have intriguing quantum phenomena that are distinctively different from their bulk counterparts. Recently, epitaxially synthesized wafer-scale 2D metals, composed of elemental atoms, are attracting attention not only for their potential applications but also for exotic quantum effects such as superconductivity. By mapping momentum-resolved electronic states using time-resolved and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), we reveal that monolayer Ag confined between bilayer graphene and SiC is a large gap (> 1 eV) 2D semiconductor, consistent with GW-corrected density functional theory. The measured valence band dispersion matches the DFT-GW quasiparticle band. However, the conduction band dispersion shows an anomalously large effective mass of 2.4 m0. Possible mechanisms for this large enhancement in the apparent mass are discussed.
