Abstract

The article presents a study on the reduction of sludge, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and color with the use of immobilized microbe bioreactor technology. The study proved that immobilized microbe bioreactor (IMBR) technology is a mature method for the treatment of wastewater from various industrial operations which include paper and pulp, wood treating and oil related industries. Moreover, the data presented reveals the effectiveness of IMBR technology on the reduction of COD and color clearing in textile effluent.

Abstract

Biofilms naturally occur on structures exposed to water. Subsequent biofouling causes damage, reduced flow rates, and deterioration of ship hull and other marine structures. Biocides are effective in enclosed environments, but antifouling paint is required for ships and other marine facilities. This article describes an epoxy resin-based coating containing micro-fine copper flakes that is cured to a hard finish. Tests showed effective biocidal action, indicating its possible use to prevent biofouling in open waters as well as in enclosed environments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
