The gravitational acceleration of antimatter, gbar, has yet to be directly measured; an unexpected outcome of its measurement could change our understanding of gravity, the universe, and the possibility of a fifth force. Three avenues are apparent for such a measurement: antihydrogen, positronium, and muonium, the last requiring a precision atom interferometer and novel muonium beam under development. The interferometer and its few-picometer alignment and calibration systems appear feasible. With 100 nm grating pitch, measurements of gbar to 10%, 1%, or better can be envisioned. Raynaud gave a criterion for a branched $G$-cover of curves defined over a mixed-characteristic discretely valued field $K$ with residue characteristic $p$ to have good reduction in the case of either a three-point cover of $\mathbb{P}^1$ or a one-point cover of an elliptic curve. Specifically, such a cover has potentially good reduction whenever $G$ has a Sylow $p$-subgroup of order $p$ and the absolute ramification index of $K$ is less than the number of conjugacy classes of order $p$ in $G$. In the case of an elliptic curve, we generalize this to the case in which $G$ has an arbitrarily large cyclic Sylow $p$-subgroup., Comment: 11 pages

SWIM is a peer-to-peer group membership protocol with attractive scaling and robustness properties. However, slow message processing can cause SWIM to mark healthy members as failed (so called false positive failure detection), despite inclusion of a mechanism to avoid this. We identify the properties of SWIM that lead to the problem, and propose Lifeguard, a set of extensions to SWIM which consider that the local failure detector module may be at fault, via the concept of local health. We evaluate this approach in a precisely controlled environment and validate it in a real-world scenario, showing that it drastically reduces the rate of false positives. The false positive rate and detection time for true failures can be reduced simultaneously, compared to the baseline levels of SWIM.

Scaling theory generates transferable (even universal) algebraic and geometrical relations between the amino acid sequences and the aggregation functions of the three titled radically different proteins. In addition to the two hydropathicity scales and beta strand scales used in earlier p53 work, a second beta strand Hot Spot scale is shown to yield very accurate results for oligomerization of p53, the tumor suppressor. The evolution of terrestrial and aquatic wild type (WT) globins is dominated by changes in two proximate - distal Histidine ligand exit channels, here monitored quantitatively by hydropathic waves. These waves reveal allometric functional features inaccessible to single amino acid stereochemical contact models, and even very large all-atom Newtonian simulations. The evolutionary differences between these features between myoglobin and neuroglobin are related to the two oxidation channels through hydropathic wave analysis, which identifies subtle interspecies functional differences inaccessible to traditional size and metabolic scaling studies. The precision three-grating interferometer can be produced in silicon nitride or ultrananocrystalline diamond using state-of-the-art nanofabrication. The required precision alignment and calibration at the picometer level also appear to be feasible. With 100 nm grating pitch, a 10% measurement of $\bar{g}$ can be made using some months of surface-muon beam time, and a 1% or better measurement with a correspondingly larger exposure. A dedicated facility has been commissioned for Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) detector fabrication at Texas A&M University (TAMU). The fabrication process has been carefully tuned using this facility and its equipment. Production of successfully tested detectors has been demonstrated. Significant improvements in detector performance have been made using new fabrication methods/equipment and tuning of process parameters.
