ZCL-278 is a selective small molecule specifically inhibiting the Cdc42-intersectin interaction, yet its in-vivo pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties against renal diseases had not been determined. Thus, our study explored the absorption, distribution and excretion of ZCL-278 as well as its pharmacological efficacy against chronic kidney disease (CKD). With the optimized detection method, absolute oral bioavailability of ZCL-278 was determined as 10.99 % in male and 17.34 % in female rats. ZCL-278 was rapidly and abundantly distributed in various tissues, especially the kidney and heart, while few excreted through urine and feces. In the adenine-induced CKD mice, the increased plasma creatinine and urea, the decreased body weight as well as the renal pathological alterations, including vacuolization of renal tubular epithelial cells, granular degeneration, cell flattening, luminal dilation, and cylindruria, were significantly ameliorated after ZCL-278 administration. Moreover, ZCL-278 could also reverse the increased intensities of renal inflammation and fibrosis in the CKD mice. These results clarified the pharmacokinetics of ZCL-278 in rats and preliminarily indicated that ZCL-278 has favorable pharmacodynamic properties for CKD primed for lead development and optimization, warranting further drug development.

Globally, water scarcity threatens food security, especially in arid and semi-arid food-producing regions, such as the Hetao Irrigation District (HID), where the water consumption during the non-growth season (spring irrigation, autumn irrigation) accounts for more than 30 % of the total irrigation volume. Meanwhile, mapping the characteristics of spatial and temporal evolution of the area of cropland irrigated in the spring and autumn and the pattern of water consumption is crucial for strengthening the management of agricultural water use. Evaporation and infiltration of irrigation water are difficult to capture in time due to insufficient timeliness or accuracy of single remote sensing data. This study integrates seven remote sensing datasets (Landsat5, Landsat7, Landsat8, HJ-1A/B, GF-1, Sentinel-2 and MODIS) for the first time to build a high spatial-temporal resolution dataset, and combines the water index NDWI and MNDWI to extract the maximum water range formed after irrigation by manually adjusting the threshold method. In addition to the global land use/cover dataset (GLC FCS30–1985_2020), the cropland layer was superimposed to accurately identify the cropland spring irrigation and autumn irrigation range from 2000 to 2021 in the HID. In the past 20 years, spring-irrigated (SI) areas increased by 1012.60 km2 (+49.96 %), and the autumn-irrigated (AI) areas decreased by 512.63 km2 (-11.02 %). Combined with the quantity of water diversion and displacement, the characteristics of irrigation water consumption in the non-growth season were further analysed. The results showed that the water consumption of spring irrigation increased by 0.67×108 m3 (+22.26 %), and that of autumn irrigation increased by 4.34×108 m3 (+38.82 %). The decrease of autumn- irrigated area and the increase of water consumption were mainly related to the stability of autumn irrigation water, imperfect irrigation and drainage conditions and insufficient field water management. In 2020­2021, the area of non-growth “autumn irrigation - spring irrigation” repeated irrigation is about 1271.52 km2, which can be used as a key control area. This study provides a theoretical basis and direction for rational water use in non-growth seasons of irrigation districts.

Abstract The severe Zn‐dendrite growth and insufficient carbon‐based cathode performance are two critical issues that hinder the practical applications of flexible Zn‐ion micro‐ssupercapacitors (FZCs). Herein, a self‐adaptive electrode design concept of the synchronous improvement on both the cathode and anode is proposed to enhance the overall performance of FZCs. Polypyrrole doped with anti‐expansion graphene oxide and acrylamide (PPy/GO‐AM) on the cathode side can exhibit remarkable electrochemical performance, including decent capacitance and cycling stability, as well as exceptional mechanical properties. Meanwhile, a robust protective polymeric layer containing reduced graphene oxide and polyacrylamide is self‐assembled onto the Zn surface (rGO/PAM@Zn) at the anode side, by which the “tip effect” of Zn small protuberance can be effectively alleviated, the Zn‐ion distribution homogenized, and dendrite growth restricted. Benefiting from these advantages, the FZCs deliver an excellent specific capacitance of 125 mF cm−2 (125 F cm−3) at 1 mA cm−2, along with a maximum energy density of 44.4 µWh cm−2, and outstanding long‐term durability with 90.3% capacitance remained after 5000 cycles. This conformal electrode design strategy is believed to enlighten the practical design of high‐performance in‐plane flexible Zn‐based electrochemical energy storage devices (EESDs) by simultaneously tackling the challenges faced by Zn anodes and capacitance‐type cathodes.

Phthalates (PAEs) have become one of the main pollutants threatening the safety and quality of vegetable production. Application of bio-organic soil amendments is a promising approach to eliminate the pollutants and improve the vegetable quality. In the present study, we constructed a functional endophytic organic fertilizer (EOF) with a PAEs degrading endophyte Bacillus subtilis strain HB-T2, which had the ability to eliminate PAEs both inside the vegetables and soil. A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of EOF on PAEs degradation, rhizosphere microbiota, vegetable quality and soil fertility, the results were also compared to chemical fertilizer (CF), organic fertilizer (OF, sterilized EOF) treatments. IntroductionThe micronutrient deficiency of iron and boron is a common issue affecting the growth of rapeseed (Brassica napus). In this study, a non-destructive diagnosis method for iron and boron deficiency in Brassica napus (genotype: Zhongshuang 11) using hyperspectral imaging technology was established.MethodsThe recognition accuracy was compared using the Fisher Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) recognition models. Recognition results showed that Multiple Scattering Correction (MSC) could be applied for the full band hyperspectral data processing, while the LDA models presented better performance on establishing the leaf iron and boron deficiency symptom recognition than the SVM models.ResultsThe recognition accuracy of the training set reached 96.67%, and the recognition rate of the prediction set could be 91.67%. To improve the model accuracy, the Competitive Adaptive Reweighted Sampling algorithm (CARS) was added to construct the MSC-CARS-LDA model. 33 featured wavelengths were selected via CARS. The recognition accuracy of the MSC-CARS-LDA training set was 100%, while the recognition accuracy of the MSC-CARS-LDA prediction set was 95.00%.DiscussionThis study indicates that, it is capable to identify the iron and boron deficiency in rapeseed using hyperspectral imaging technology.

Background This study aims to investigate the temporal and spatial patterns of structural brain injury related to deep medullary veins (DMVs) damage. Methods and Results This is a longitudinal analysis of the population‐based Shunyi cohort study. Baseline DMVs numbers were identified on susceptibility‐weighted imaging. We assessed vertex‐wise cortex maps and diffusion maps at both baseline and follow‐up using FSL software and the longitudinal FreeSurfer analysis suite. We performed statistical analysis of global measurements and voxel/vertex‐wise analysis to explore the relationship between DMVs number and brain structural measurements. A total of 977 participants were included in the baseline, of whom 544 completed the follow‐up magnetic resonance imaging (age 54.97±7.83 years, 32% men, mean interval 5.56±0.47 years). A lower number of DMVs was associated with a faster disruption of white matter microstructural integrity, presented by increased mean diffusivity and radial diffusion (β=0.0001 and SE=0.0001 for both, P=0.04 and 0.03, respectively), in extensive deep white matter (threshold‐free cluster enhancement P

We present a comprehensive study on the identification of eutectic high entropy alloys (EHEAs) through integration of CALculation of PHAse Diagrams (CALPHAD), machine learning (ML), and experimental data. By performing high-throughput CALPHAD calculations to obtain the temperature differences between liquidus and solidus phases (ΔT) and employing gradient descent optimization to identify local minima in ΔT surface, we obtained a reliable dataset for EHEAs across 5–6 component alloy families, which effectively addresses current limitations in both the quality and availability of EHEA data. In conjunction with literature-based experimental data, this dataset serves as the foundation for ML models trained with an XGBoost classifier. The physical descriptors with the most significant effects on the classification of eutectics and non-eutectics are identified. Our study reveals that configurational entropy alone yields a remarkable 98% classification accuracy, elucidating its dual role in phase stabilization and melting point depression. For the first time, an explicit phase selection rule to identify eutectics has been derived from an artificial neural network model, which facilitates efficiently screening EHEAs without resorting to CALPHAD nor ML models. This study presents a robust, data-driven strategy applicable not only to EHEAs but also to a broader range of alloy systems.

Abstract Drug‐induced liver injury (DILI) is a significant global health issue that poses high mortality and morbidity risks. One commonly observed cause of DILI is acetaminophen (APAP) overdose. GSDME is an effector protein that induces non‐canonical pyroptosis. In this study, the activation of GSDME, but not GSDMD, in the liver tissue of mice and patients with APAP‐DILI is reported. Knockout of GSDME, rather than GSDMD, in mice protected them from APAP‐DILI. Mice with hepatocyte‐specific rescue of GSDME reproduced APAP‐induced liver injury. Furthermore, alterations in the immune cell pools observed in APAP‐induced DILI, such as the replacement of TIM4+ resident Kupffer cells (KCs) by monocyte‐derived KCs, Ly6C+ monocyte infiltration, MerTk+ macrophages depletion, and neutrophil increase, reappeared in mice with hepatocyte‐specific rescue of GSDME. Mechanistically, APAP exposure led to a substantial loss of interferon‐stimulated gene 15 (ISG15), resulting in deISGylation of carbamoyl phosphate synthetase‐1 (CPS1), promoted its degradation via K48‐linked ubiquitination, causing ammonia clearance dysfunction. GSDME deletion prevented these effects. Delayed administration of dimethyl‐fumarate inhibited GSDME cleavage and alleviated ammonia accumulation, mitigating liver injury. This findings demonstrated a previously uncharacterized role of GSDME in APAP‐DILI by promoting pyroptosis and CPS1 deISGylation, suggesting that inhibiting GSDME can be a promising therapeutic option for APAP‐DILI.

BackgroundThe marine pearl culture industry is a key industry in the Beibu Gulf of China that achieves large-scale pearl production by artificial nucleus insertion in pearls. High-quality pearls can produced by xenotransplantation, but allotransplantation or xenotransplantation can lead to various immune responses, resulting in nucleus rejection or even the recipient shell death and thereby causing significant losses in pearl production.MethodsFew studies have investigated the immune defenses of oysters related to allografts and xenografts. In this study, transcriptomic comparisons of allograft and xenograft Pinctada fucata haemocytes were conducted to identify genes associated with immune responses.ResultsA total of 33.11 Gbp of clean reads were generated from five P. fucata haemocytes. De-novo assembly of quality-filtered reads generated a total of 26,526 unigenes, with 22,002 known genes and 4,524 predicted novel genes. In addition, 34,904 novel transcripts were detected, with 15,620 novel alternative splicing isoforms of known protein coding genes and 4,605 belonging to novel protein coding genes, with the remaining 14,679 comprising long non-coding RNA transcripts. Functional enrichment analysis of immune-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs) using the Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) databases revealed 36–44 significantly enriched GO terms and 34 significantly enriched KEGG pathways. Ten DEGs were subjected to validation of expression levels using RT-q PCR analysis, revealing generally consistent values as the high-throughput sequencing data.ConclusionOyster haemocytes were comprehensively evaluated in this study using transcriptomic comparisons and with a focus on immune-related functional genes and pathways. The results revealed numerous DEGs related to immune function that can serve as the basis for subsequent immune response analysis of allotransplantation and xenotransplantation.

IntroductionBicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most prevalent congenital cardiovascular defect and known to cause thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAAs). To improve our understanding of BAV pathogenesis, we characterized the cellular composition of BAV tissues and identified molecular changes in each cell population.MethodsTissue samples from two patients with BAV and two heart transplant donors were analyzed using single-cell RNA sequencing, assay for transposase-accessible chromatin using sequencing, and weighted gene coexpression network analysis for differential gene analysis. TAA-related changes were evaluated by comparing the proportion of each cell type and gene expression profiles between TAA and control tissues. Further, by combining our single-cell RNA sequencing data with publicly available data from genome-wide association studies, we determined critical genes for BAV.ResultsWe found 20 cell subpopulations in TAA tissues, including multiple subtypes of smooth muscle cells, fibroblasts, macrophages, and T lymphocytes. This result suggested that these cells play multiple functional roles in BAV development. Several differentially expressed genes, including CD9, FHL1y, HSP90AA1, GAS6, PALLD, and ACTA2, were identified.DiscussionWe believe that this comprehensive assessment of the cellular composition of TAA tissues and the insights into altered gene expression patterns can facilitate identification of novel diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets for BAV-associated TAA.

BackgroundActive surveillance has been an option for patients with low-risk papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). However, whether delayed surgery leads to an increased risk of local tumor metastasis remain unclear. We sought to investigate the impact of observation time on central lymph node metastasis (CLNM) and multifocal disease in patients with low-risk PTC.MethodsPatients who were diagnosed with asymptomatic low-risk PTC, and with a pathological maximum tumor size ≤1.5 cm by were included. The patients were classified into observation group and immediate surgery group, and subgroup analyses were conducted by observation time period. The prevalence of CLNM, lymph node (LN) involved >5, multifocal PTC and bilateral multifocal PTC were considered as outcome variables. The changing trend and risk ratio of prevalence over observation time were evaluated by Mann-Kendall trend test and Logistics regression.ResultsOverall, 3,427 and 1,860 patients were classified to the observation group and immediate surgery group, respectively. Trend tests showed that decreasing trends both on the prevalence of CLNM and LN involved >5 over the observation time, but the difference was not statistically significant, and the prevalence of multifocal PTC and bilateral multifocal PTC showed the significant decreasing trends. After adjustment, multivariate analysis showed no statistically significant difference between observed and immediate surgery groups in the four outcome variables.ConclusionIn patients with subclinical asymptomatic low-risk PTC, observation did not result in an increased incidence of local metastatic disease, nor did the increased surgery extent in patients with delayed surgery compared to immediate surgery. These findings can strengthen the confidence in the active surveillance management for both doctors and patients.

This study focused on Neohesperidin dihydrochalcone (NHDC) and explored its effects on the intestinal tissue structure, short-chain fatty acid production, gut microbiota, and intestinal tissue oxidative stress in a diabetic zebrafish model with insulin resistance. By analyzing the relationship between gut microbiota changes and glucose metabolism, it revealed the mechanism through which NHDC improves insulin resistance by modulating the gut microbiota. The results indicate that NHDC intervention has a protective effect on the intestinal barrier in diabetic zebrafish, improving lipid metabolism disturbances, and enhancing intestinal antioxidant capacity. Regarding community diversity, NHDC treatment increased the diversity and richness of the gut microbiota in diabetic zebrafish. In terms of gut microbiota composition, NHDC treatment reduced the abundance of the inflammation-associated Proteobacteria while increasing the relative abundance of the Fusobacteria, thereby maintaining the stability of the zebrafish gut microbiota. Furthermore, NHDC treatment also increased the abundance of the Prevotella, which is beneficial for increasing glycogen storage and inhibiting liver gluconeogenesis. Therefore, we speculate that NHDC may regulate the production of SCFAs and reduce the expression levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines by reducing the abundance of harmful bacteria such as Proteobacteria, Plesiomonas, and Aeromonas, while increasing the abundance of Faecalibacterium and Fusobacteria. The changes in the abundance of these microbiota members are involved in processes such as inflammation stress, glycogen storage, and gluconeogenesis, collectively promoting the improvement of insulin resistance in diabetic zebrafish by NHDC.

Germination, a powerful biofortification technique, holds immense potential in bolstering the micronutrient profile of essential staple grains, thereby paving the way for optimal nutritional enhancement. The primary goal of this study was to improve the technological functionality of germinated wheat flour by incorporating pentosanase (Pn) and glucose oxidase (Gox) enzymes, with particular emphasis on the evolutionary changes in its components. The inclusion of Gox did not produce any substantial impact on the volumetric characteristics of the steamed bread. The incorporation of Pn and Gox has been seen to enhance the overall excellence of steamed bread by optimizing loaf volume and textural characteristics while also improving the thermal stability of the dough. The existence of two endothermic peaks could be attributed to bound water or alterations in the granules within the starch crystallization region. Adding Pn and Gox reduced and increased the formation and stability time of the dough, respectively. A certain ratio was employed to assess alternations in the crystallinity of starch granules over a limited range. After steaming, a significant decrease in IR1047/1022 was observed, indicating that the elevated temperature partially disrupted the internal starch crystal structure, leading to a gelatinization reaction with water. The ratio of tensile resistance (R) and elongation (E) of dough increased significantly compared to the control. The results obtained from this study indicate that the simultaneous inclusion of enzymes (Pn + Gox) holds significant promise for expanding the technological functionality of germinated wheat flour dough and improving the quality attributes of steamed bread.

Abstract Background Despite evidence that severe and poorly controlled asthma are associated with more clinical unmet needs and intensive utilization of healthcare resources, limited data is available on severe asthma expenditure in China. The study aimed to assess Medical Resource Utilization (MRU) costs of asthma and explore the cost drivers in order to better understand the economic burden of the Chinese population suffered from asthma. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted using Chinese sampled national claim database. Patients aged 6 years and above with primary diagnosis of asthma and asthma-related medical visit/hospitalization during 2015 were included. Medication was used as a proxy per the GINA and China guideline to identify asthma severity (i.e. mild, moderate, and severe). multiple linear regression model was conducted to identify MRU costs drivers. Results 7,254 patients diagnosed with asthma were included: 4,529 (62.4%), 2,200 (30.3%), and 525 (7.2%) had mild, moderate, and severe asthma, respectively. On average, each severe patient spent 6,782 Chinese Yuan (CNY) on asthma treatment and had 57.0% hospitalization rate during the year, 3.9- and 4.4-fold of the average of overall population (P

Abstract Aims To compare measurement properties of EQ-5D-5L and SF-6DV2 in university staff and students in China. Methods A total of 291 staff and 183 undergraduates or postgraduates completed the two instruments assigned in a random order. The health utility scores (HUS) of EQ-5D-5L and SF-6DV2 were calculated using the respective value sets for Chinese populations. The agreement of HUSs was examined using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and Bland-Altman plot. Convergent validity of their HUSs and similar dimensions were assessed using Spearman’s correlation coefficient. Known-group validity of the HUSs and EQ-VAS score was assessed by comparing the scores of participants with and without three conditions (i.e., disease, symptom or discomfort, and injury), as well as number of any of the three conditions; their sensitivity was also compared. Results The ICCs between the two HUSs were 0.567 (staff) and 0.553 (students). Bland-Altman plot found that EQ-5D-5L HUSs were generally higher. Strong correlation was detected for two similar dimensions (pain/discomfort of EQ-5D-5L and pain of SF-6DV2; anxiety/depression of EQ-5D-5L and mental health of SF-6DV2) in both samples. The correlation between the two HUSs were strong (0.692 for staff and 0.703 for students), and were stronger than their correlations with EQ-VAS score. All the three scores could discriminate the difference in three known-groups (disease, symptom or discomfort, number of any of the three conditions). The two HUSs were more sensitive than EQ-VAS score; and either of them was not superior than the other. Conclusions Both EQ-5D-5L and SF-6DV2 HUSs have acceptable measurement properties (convergent validity, known-groups validity, sensitivity) in Chinese university staff and students. Nevetheless, only EQ-5D-5L (PD and AD) and SF-6DV2 (PN and MH) showed indicated good convergent validity as expected. Two types of HUSs cannot be used interchangeably, and each has its own advantages in sensitivity.

Rhenium, a unique engineering material with the second highest melting point of all metals, has significant application potential in harsh service environments, and thus evaluating its mechanical responses under shock loadings is of great importance. Through molecular dynamic simulations, we have systematically investigated the effect of crystallographic orientations on the mechanical responses of single crystalline rhenium under shock compression. We have obtained the P–V/V0, Up-P, P-T, and Us-Up Hugoniot relations, and evaluated their anisotropies. The particle velocity, Pzz, and shear stress show orientation dependent when tracing the shock profiles at different time, and the difference is particularly pronounced for shear stress, resulting from the atomic arrangement in the HCP crystal structure of rhenium. The plastic deformations mechanisms of rhenium single crystal under shock loadings are revealed as the emission of dislocations and the generation of disordered atoms, and the influence of shock intensity on the plastic deformation mechanism has been systematically studied. The results presented in this work not only shed light on the effect of crystallographic orientations on the mechanical responses of monocrystalline rhenium under shock compression, but also offers fundamental insights for understanding the shock induced plastic deformation mechanisms, which could provide a valuable supplement to the investigations of mechanical properties pertaining to rhenium.

To study the energy dynamic change law of moisture-contained coal in the process of liquid nitrogen freezing, a self-developed acoustic emission (AE) experimental system for the whole process of liquid nitrogen frozen coal was utilized to analyze the characteristics and the change laws of AE energy dissipation in the whole process of liquid nitrogen freezing in coal with different moisture contents. The results shown that AE energy during liquid nitrogen freezing of coal was divided into steep, fluctuating and calm periods in the time domain. The primary and secondary peaks of energy were both positively linearly related to moisture content, and the primary and secondary energy peak of 5.96% moisture content were 1.66 and 2.26 times higher than those of dry coal. The cumulative energy of liquid nitrogen frozen coal, divided into three stages of steep increase, slow growth and stabilization versus time, was positively linearly related to moisture content, which of 5.96% moisture contained coal was 2.88 times higher than that of dry coal. The energy amplitude of different moisture content coals was mostly concentrated in the range of 40-50 dB, accounting for 94.39%-99.11% of the total, and decreased linearly with the increasing moisture content of coal. The time series of acoustic emission ringing counts in liquid nitrogen frozen coals had chaotic fractal characteristics, and the correlation dimensions of the steep increase, slow growth and stable stages were positively exponentially, linearly and linearly correlated with the moisture content, respectively. Furthermore, the correlation dimension in the steep increase stage of 5.96% moisture contained coal was 2.00 and 5.78 times higher than that of the slow growth and stable stage, respectively. The type of coal cracks produced by the liquid nitrogen freezing was mainly tensile, its proportion with the increasing moisture content was a negative exponential decrease, and the proportion of shear cracks positively linearly increased with the increasing moisture content. The increase of moisture in coal strengthened the freezing and expansion force generated by the water-ice phase transition during the liquid nitrogen freezing process, and the increase of energy dissipation contributed to the rapid development of pore-crack and the structural damage and plastic deformation of coal. However, the structural damage was difficult to detect in real time and can be inverted by AE energy.

Abstract Background Gut microbiota plays a key role in the development of sarcopenia via the ‘gut‐muscle’ axis, and probiotics‐based therapy might be a strategy for sarcopenia. Fecal microbiota transplantation from young donors (yFMT) has attracted much attention because of its probiotic function. However, whether or not yFMT is effective for sarcopenia in old recipients is largely unknown. Thus, we aimed to investigate the effect and mechanism of yFMT on age‐related sarcopenia. Methods The fecal microbiota of either young (12 weeks) or old (88 weeks) donor rats was transplanted into aged recipient rats for 8 weeks. Abstract The production of semen in boars involves multiple reproductive glands, including the testis (Tes), epididymis (Epi), vesicular gland (VG), prostate gland (PG), and bulbourethral gland (BG). However, previous studies on boar reproduction primarily focused on the testis, with little attention paid to the other glands. Here, we integrated single-molecule long-read sequencing with short-read sequencing to characterize the RNA landscape from five glands of Banna mini-pig inbred line (BMI) and Diannan small-ear pigs (DSE). We identified 110,996 full-length isoforms from 22,298 genes, and classified the alternative splicing (AS) events in these five glands. Transcriptome-wide variation analysis indicated that the number of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in five tissues of BMI was significantly lower than that in the non-inbred pig, DSE, revealing the effect of inbreeding on BMI. Additionally, we performed small-RNA sequencing and identified 299 novel miRNAs across all glands. Overall, our findings provide a comprehensive overview of the RNA landscape within these five glands, paving the path for future investigations on reproductive biology and the impact of inbreeding on pig transcriptome.

This study examined the thermal reflective properties of composite inorganic coatings applied to various wall types. It evaluated the influence of these coatings on the thermal insulation and reflectivity of the walls. The findings indicate that coating application markedly enhances a wall’s thermal insulation capabilities and increases its heat flux reflection ratio. These results offer crucial theoretical backing and practical guidance for the future use of coating technologies in construction. By refining the coating formulations and application processes, the thermal insulation properties of walls can be further enhanced, thus making a significant contribution to building energy efficiency and environmental protection. Consequently, this research provides essential references and insights for advancing coating technology in the construction industry.

This study proposes a low-cost method for crown segmentation and forest inventory based on satellite remote sensing images and the deep learning model BlendMask. Taking Beijing Jingyue ecoforestry as the experimental area, we combined the field survey data and satellite images, and constructed the dataset independently, for model training. The experimental results show that the F1-score of Sophora japonica, Pinus tabulaeformis, and Koelreuteria paniculata reached 87.4%, 85.7%, and 86.3%, respectively. Meanwhile, we tested for the study area with a total area of 146 ha, and 27,403 tree species were identified in nine categories, with a total crown projection area of 318,725 m2. We also fitted a biomass calculation model for oil pine (Pinus tabulaeformis) based on field measurements and assessed 205,199.69 kg of carbon for this species across the study area. Additionally, we compared the model to U-net, and the results showed that BlendMask has strong crown-segmentation capabilities. This study demonstrates that BlendMask can effectively perform crown segmentation and forest inventory in large-scale complex forest areas, showing its great potential for forest resource management.

Air purifier use, shift work, and long-term exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) are linked to platelet abnormality. However, the role of air purifier use and shift work in the individual or joint associations of PM2.5 and its components with platelet indices are largely unknown. A total of 8772 participants were recruited from a population of subway workers in China. PM2.5 and its component data were obtained from the Tracking Air Pollution in China dataset. The role of air purifier use and shift work in the association between PM2.5 and its components and platelet indices were analyzed. Among shift workers without air purifier use, positive associations of PM2.5 and each component in PM2.5 with the mean platelet volume (MPV) or platelet counts (PLT) were observed, whereas negative associations of PM2.5 and each component in PM2.5 with the platelet distribution width (PDW) were observed. Furthermore, estimated changes (95%CIs) in PLT, MPV, and PDW in response to each 10th percentile increment in the mixture of PM2.5 and its components were 0.8657 (0.2496, 1.4819), 0.0192 (0.0054, 0.0329), and −0.0648 (−0.0945, −0.0351), respectively, and sulfate in PM2.5 was the major contributor to those associations. Long-term exposure to PM2.5 and its components was related to increased platelet disorders among shift workers without air purifier use, and those associations were mainly attributed to sulfate in PM2.5.

Isoflavones, a class of substances with high biological activity, are abundant in soybeans. This study investigated isoflavone biosynthesis in soybean cell suspension cultures under UV-B radiation. UV-B radiation enhanced the transcription level and activity of key enzymes involved in isoflavone synthesis in cell suspension cultures. As a result, the isoflavone contents significantly increased by 19.80% and 91.21% in hypocotyl and cotyledon suspension cultures compared with the control, respectively. Meanwhile, a significant difference was observed in the composition of isoflavones between soybean hypocotyl and cotyledon suspension cultures. Genistin was only detected in hypocotyl suspension cultures, whereas glycitin, daidzein, and genistein accumulated in cotyledon suspension cultures. Therefore, UV-B radiation exhibited tissue-specific regulation of isoflavone biosynthesis in soybean cell suspension cultures. The combination of suspension cultures and abiotic stress provides a novel technological approach to isoflavone accumulation.

Cutting-edge detection is a critical step in mechanized rice harvesting. Through visual cutting-edge detection, an algorithm can sense in real-time whether the rice harvesting process is along the cutting-edge, reducing loss and improving the efficiency of mechanized harvest. Although convolutional neural network-based models, which have strong local feature acquisition ability, have been widely used in rice production, these models involve large receptive fields only in the deep network. Besides, a self-attention-based Transformer can effectively provide global features to complement the disadvantages of CNNs. Hence, to quickly and accurately complete the task of cutting-edge detection in a complex rice harvesting environment, this article develops a Transformer Convolution Network (TCNet). This cutting-edge detection algorithm combines the Transformer with a CNN. Specifically, the Transformer realizes a patch embedding through a 3 × 3 convolution, and the output is employed as the input of the Transformer module. Additionally, the multi-head attention in the Transformer module undergoes dimensionality reduction to reduce overall network computation. In the Feed-forward network, a 7 × 7 convolution operation is used to realize the position-coding of different patches. Moreover, CNN uses depth-separable convolutions to extract local features from the images. The global features extracted by the Transformer and the local features extracted by the CNN are integrated into the fusion module. The test results demonstrated that TCNet could segment 97.88% of the Intersection over Union and 98.95% of the Accuracy in the unharvested region, and the number of parameters is only 10.796M. Cutting-edge detection is better than common lightweight backbone networks, achieving the detection effect of deep convolutional networks (ResNet-50) with fewer parameters. The proposed TCNet shows the advantages of a Transformer combined with a CNN and provides real-time and reliable reference information for the subsequent operation of rice harvesting.

Objective: Current cost-effectiveness analyses of amblyopia screening are mainly from western countries. It remains unclear whether it is cost-effective to implement a preschool amblyopia screening programme in China. Our study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of a hypothetical kindergarten-based amblyopia screening versus non-screening among 3-year-old children. Methods: We developed a decision tree combined with a Markov model to compare the cost and effectiveness of screening versus non-screening for 3-year-old children from a third-party payment perspective. The primary outcomes were quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) and the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER). Costs were obtained from expert opinions in different regions of China. Transition probabilities and health utilities were mainly based on published literature and open sources. Sensitivity analyses were performed to assess the impact of parameters’ uncertainty on results. Results: Base-case analysis demonstrated that the ICER of screening versus non-screening was $17,466/QALY, well below the WTP threshold ($38,223/QALY) for China. One-way sensitivity analysis showed that the prevalence of amblyopia, the transition probability per year from untreated amblyopia to healthy, and the discount rate were the top three factors. The likelihood of cost-effectiveness of screening compared with non-screening was 92.56%, according to probabilistic sensitivity analysis. Scenario analysis also indicated that ICER was lower than the WTP threshold even if the time horizon was shortened or the screening was delayed to the age of 4 or 5. Conclusions: Amblyopia screening could be considered a cost-effective strategy compared to non-screening for 3-year-old children in China. Screening for children at the age of 4 or 5 may even yield better results.

Background The effectiveness of immune checkpoint inhibitors in colorectal cancer (CRC) is limited due to the low tumor neoantigen load and low immune infiltration in most microsatellite-stable (MSS) tumors. This study aimed to develop a mitochondria-targeted photodynamic therapy (PDT) approach to provoke host antitumor immunity of MSS-CRC and elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms.Methods The role and mechanism of mitochondria-targeted PDT in inhibiting CRC progression and inducing pyroptosis were evaluated both in vitro and in vivo. The immune effects of PDT sensitization on PD-1 blockade were also assessed in CT26 and 4T1 tumor-bearing mouse models.Results Here, we report that PDT using IR700DX-6T, a photosensitizer targeting the mitochondrial translocation protein, may trigger an antitumor immune response initiated by pyroptosis in CRC. Mechanistically, IR700DX-6T-PDT produced reactive oxygen species on light irradiation and promoted downstream p38 phosphorylation and active caspase3 (CASP3)-mediated cleavage of gasdermin E (GSDME), subsequently inducing pyroptosis. Furthermore, IR700DX-6T-PDT enhanced the sensitivity of MSS-CRC cells to PD-1 blockade. Decitabine, a demethylation drug used to treat hematologic neoplasms, disrupted the abnormal methylation pattern of GSDME in tumor cells, enhanced the efficacy of IR700DX-6T-PDT, and elicited a potent antitumor immune response in combination with PD-1 blockade and IR700DX-6T-PDT.Conclusion Our work provides clear a understanding of immunogenic cell death triggered by mitochondria-targeted PDT, offering a new approach for enhancing the efficacy of PD-1 blockade in CRC.

Key Clinical Message Maternally inherited diabetes and deafness (MIDD) is often caused by the m.3243A > G mutation in mitochondrial DNA. Unfortunately, the characteristics of MIDD, especially long‐term outcomes and heteroplasmic changes, have not been well described previously. The purpose of this study was to describe the clinical and genetic features of a family with MIDD after 10 years of follow‐up.A 33‐year‐old male patient with typical characteristics of MIDD, including early‐onset diabetes, deafness, and low body mass index, was admitted to our department. Further investigation revealed that the vast majority of his maternal relatives suffered from diabetes with or without deafness. A detailed family history was then requested from the patient and a pedigree was constructed. The patient suspected of MIDD was screened for mutations using whole mitochondrial DNA sequencing. Candidate pathogenic variants were then validated in other family members through Sanger sequencing. The patient was diagnosed with MIDD, with inherited m.3243A > G mutation in the mitochondrially encoded tRNA leucine 1 (MT‐TL1) gene, after 10 years of symptom onset. The patient was then treated with insulin and coenzyme Q10 to improve mitochondrial function. During the follow‐up period, his fasting blood glucose and HbA1c levels were improved and the incidence of diabetic ketoacidosis was significantly reduced. Our findings indicate that whole mitochondrial DNA sequencing should be considered for patients suspected of MIDD to improve the efficiency of diagnosis and prognosis.

Background It is uncertain whether rare NOTCH3 variants are associated with stroke and dementia in the general population and whether they lead to alterations in cognitive function. This study aims to determine the associations of rare NOTCH3 variants with prevalent and incident stroke and dementia, as well as cognitive function changes. Methods and Results In the prospective community‐based Shunyi Study, a total of 1007 participants were included in the baseline analysis. For the follow‐up analysis, 1007 participants were included in the stroke analysis, and 870 participants in the dementia analysis. All participants underwent baseline brain magnetic resonance imaging, carotid ultrasound, and whole exome sequencing. Rare NOTCH3 variants were defined as variants with minor allele frequency

The prevalence of mathematical difficulties (MD) among primary school children in China and its related factors remain unclear. To provide a suitable foundation for formulating appropriate screening and intervention strategies, this study aimed to estimate the prevalence of MD and its possible factors among primary school children in China. Articles were identified from seven databases and included if they reported on the prevalence of MD among primary school children in China. A total of 30,881 articles were retrieved, 975 of which were subjected to full evaluation. In total, 54 studies involving 34,815 participants (mean age 9.86 ± 3.13 years) were included. Analyses were conducted using the Meta and Metafor packages in the statistical software environment R. We used meta-regression and subgroup analyses by variable type to evaluate the potential prevalence factors. The pooled prevalence of MD among primary school children in China was 8.97%, whereas the prevalence rates of MD in lower, middle, and upper primary schools were 11.57%, 10.07%, and 4.76%, respectively. The results showed that the prevalence of MD among primary school children in China was significantly related to grade level and the cut-off points selected for screening MD and that the prevalence of MD in middle primary school was higher in girls than in boys. The prevalence of MD in primary schools in China was slightly higher than that in countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States. The prevalence of MD was higher in the lower and middle grades of primary school. The grade level and cut-off points selected during MD screening were closely related to the prevalence of MD. We present the scintillation velocity measurements of FRB 20201124A from the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope observations, which reveal an annual variation. This annual variation is further supported by changes detected in the scintillation arc as observed from the secondary spectrum. We attribute the annual velocity variation to the presence of a moderately anisotropic scattering screen located at a distance of 0.4 ± 0.1 kpc from Earth. Our results prove that the scintillation of this fast radio burst (FRB) is mainly caused by material close to Earth on a Galactic scale. However, scintillation observations of other FRBs may expose their surrounding environment or uncover possible orbital motion if scintillation is caused by materials in their host galaxy.

Introduction EQ-5D is one of the most frequently used health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measures but has been found to be insensitive in detecting differences in health status in some general populations and disease groups. For example, the appropriateness of applying EQ-5D in the Chinese cultural setting has been widely discussed. Adding additional HRQoL dimensions (bolt-on items) can be a solution to both retain the original descriptive system of EQ-5D, while enhancing its sensitivity to the local context. To date, no studies have proposed culturally relevant bolt-ons for China or examined the psychometric properties of such bolt-on items. This protocol documents the identification, development, selection and psychometric testing of culturally relevant bolt-on items for EQ-5D-5L in China.Methods and analysis We will identify and develop candidate bolt-on items that are most relevant in the Chinese culture, through former literature reviews on health concepts important for the Chinese population, conducting expert consultations and qualitative interviews. We will quantitatively test the acceptability and measurement properties (including distributional characteristics and construct validity) of the candidate items in both general and disease populations in a cross-sectional setting. The patient group will be followed up to collect two-time-point data to assess test–retest reliability of the candidate items. Bolt-on item selection will consider both the qualitative and quantitative evidence gathered. This protocol outlines a comprehensive mixed-methods process for identifying, developing, selecting and testing bolt-on items that are relevant and culturally appropriate in China. This study may serve as a guide for similar initiatives in other cultural contexts.Ethics and dissemination This study received ethics approval from the Institutional Review Board of School of Public Health, Fudan University (IRB number: 2022-TYSQ-03-154). Study findings will be disseminated through international peer-reviewed journal articles as well as public, academic presentations at national and international conferences.

Acute retinal necrosis (ARN) is an inflammatory disease that is primarily caused by herpesvirus infection, most commonly varicella-zoster virus (VZV), followed by herpes simplex virus (HSV) and occasionally cytomegalovirus (CMV). Sintilimab is an immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) that can enhance the body’s anti-tumor immune response. However, treatment with ICIs may lead to reactivation of the VZV. Here, we present a case of ARN caused by VZV infection in a patient receiving sintilimab for cervical cancer. A 64-year-old female patient developed vision loss and floaters with left eye redness for one week after 22 cycles of sintilimab for cervical cancer. Based on clinical manifestations, ophthalmological examination, and vitreous humor biopsy, the patient was diagnosed with acute retinal necrosis syndrome secondary to VZV. After receiving systemic antiviral and anti-inflammatory therapy, retinal necrosis lesions and visual function improved. In conclusion, clinicians should be aware of the risk of ARN when using sintilimab and should actively monitor patients for prompt diagnosis and optimal management of this rare adverse drug reaction.

Cell-cell interaction (CCI) plays a pivotal role in cellular communication within the tissue microenvironment. The recent development of spatial transcriptomics (ST) technology and associated data analysis methods has empowered researchers to systematically investigate CCI. However, existing methods are tailored to single-cell resolution datasets, whereas the majority of ST platforms lack such resolution. Additionally, the detection of CCI through association screening based on ST data, which has complicated dependence structure, necessitates proper control of false discovery rates due to the multiple hypothesis testing issue in high dimensional spaces. To address these challenges, we introduce RECCIPE, a novel method designed for identifying cell signaling interactions across multiple cell types in spatial transcriptomic data. RECCIPE integrates gene expression data, spatial information and cell type composition in a multivariate regression framework, enabling genome-wide screening for changes in gene expression levels attributed to CCIs. We show that RECCIPE not only achieves high accuracy in simulated datasets but also provides new biological insights from real data obtained from a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Overall, our framework provides a useful tool for studying impact of cell-cell interactions on gene expression in multicellular systems.

ABSTRACT The monkeypox virus, which was declared as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organization (WHO), continues to cause infection cases worldwide. Given the risk of virus evolution, it is essential to identify monkeypox virus infection in a timely manner and isolate patients to prevent outbreaks so that the vulnerable population is protected and the emergence of dangerous monkeypox variants is restrained. In this study, a novel one-pot recombinase polymerase amplification-Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (RPA-CRISPR) assay for monkeypox based on a sucrose-aided multiphase aqueous system has been established with an ultra-high sensitivity of a single copy, which is 10 times higher than the existing RPA-CRISPR one-pot method. The entire reaction was completed within 60 min at 37°C. The detection method exhibited good specificity, effectively distinguishing monkeypox from other orthopoxviruses. The detection results could be observed by the naked eye under ultraviolet or blue light, making it highly suitable for home or limited healthcare settings. The assay has solved the incompatibility between the Cas12a cleavage reaction and the RPA reaction and shows good specificity, accuracy, and the rapidness and convenience important for point-of-care testing. It provides an effective tool for the early diagnosis of monkeypox and sets a technical example of using a multiphase aqueous system to establish one-pot RPA-CRISPR detection. Such is the hypoxia in solid tumor that Ⅱ-type photodynamic therapy (PDT) has not yet achieved significantly satisfactory consequences. Despite the rapid advancement in nanotechnology-based PDT for alleviating the hypoxic tumor microenvironment, several challenges persist. These include inefficient passive oxygen-supply mechanisms, low stability of oxygen-delivery nanosystems, and the complexity of their modification processes. To address these issues, we developed integrative nanoformulations (HHI NPs) by sequentially inserting biomacromolecule hemoglobin (Hb) and IR783 (photosensitizer) into hollow mesoporous Prussian blue (HPB NPs) through a straightforward and gentle diffusion method. Intriguingly, the resulting hybrid nanocomposites based on hollow mesoporous structure provided stability of biomacromolecule Hb, ensuring active and efficient oxygen delivery. In these nanosystems, HHI NPs equipped with high oxygen-carrying Hb efficiently generated reactive oxygen species over HepG2 cells cultured in hypoxic condition under NIR irradiation. Additionally, HPB NPs served not only as nanocarriers but also as photothermal agents exhibiting excellent photothermal conversion effects. which were beneficial for photothermal therapy (PTT) of cancer. HHI NPs co-loaded with Hb and IR783 not only actively relieved the hypoxic TME through the stable protection of the hollow structure from HPB NPs, but also achieve the significant synergistic therapy by combining PDT and PTT for tumor treatment.

Abstract As a leading cause of chronic kidney disease, diabetic kidney disease (DKD) involves insidious but progressive impairments of renal tubules, and is associated with premature renal aging. The underlying pathomechanisms remain elusive. Post hoc analyses of the publicly-available renal transcriptome revealed that TGFβ1 is overexpressed in renal tubulointerstitia in patients with DKD and positively correlated with kidney aging signaling. This finding was validated in kidney biopsy specimens collected from patients with DKD, associated with renal tubular senescence and degenerative changes. In vitro in renal tubular epithelial cells, exposure to a diabetic milieu, stimulated with high ambient glucose and TGFβ1, elicited premature senescence, as evidenced by staining for senescence-associated β-galactosidase activity and increased expression of p16INK4A, and p53. This coincided with Serpin E1 induction, in parallel with increased fibronectin accumulation and reduced expression of the epithelial marker E-cadherin, all indicative of degenerative changes. Reminiscent of the action of typical senolytics, a small molecule inhibitor of Serpin E1 substantially mitigated the pro-senescent and degenerating effects of the diabetic milieu, suggesting an essential role of Serpin E1 in mediating renal tubular senescence upon diabetic insult. Moreover, inhibition of Serpin E1 abolished the diabetic insult-triggered paracrine senescence of renal tubular cells. In consistency, in patients with DKD, renal tubular expression of Serpin E1 was upregulated and positively correlated with tubular senescence and fibrosis in renal tubulointerstitia. Collectively, diabetic insult induces renal tubular degeneration and premature senescence via, at least in part, Serpin E1 signaling.

Abstract The pore structure of coal plays a key role in controlling the storage and migration of CH4/N2. The pore structure of coal is an important indicator to measure the gas extraction capability and the gas displacement effect of N2 injection. The deformation characteristic of coal during adsorption–desorption of CH4/N2 is an important factor affecting CH4 pumpability and N2 injectability. The pore structure characteristics of low-permeability coal were obtained by fluid intrusion method and photoelectric radiation technology. The multistage and connectivity of coal pores were analyzed. Subsequently, a simultaneous test experiment of CH4/N2 adsorption–desorption and coal deformation was carried out. The deformation characteristics of coal were clarified and a coal strain model was constructed. Finally, the applicability of low-permeability coal to N2 injection for CH4 displacement technology was investigated. The results show that the micropores and transition pores of coal samples are relatively developed. The pore morphology of coal is dominated by semi-open pores. The pore structure of coal is highly complex and heterogeneous. Transition pores, mesopores and macropores of coal have good connectivity, while micropores have poor connectivity. Under constant triaxial stress, the adsorption capacity of the coal for CH4 is greater than that for N2, and the deformation capacity of the coal for CH4 adsorption is greater than that for N2 adsorption. The axial strain, circumferential strain, and volumetric strain during the entire process of CH4 and N2 adsorption/desorption in the coal can be divided into three stages. Coal adsorption–desorption deformation has the characteristics of anisotropy and gas-difference. A strain model for the adsorption–desorption of CH4/N2 from coal was established by considering the expansion stress of adsorbed gas on the coal matrix, the compression stress of free gas on the coal matrix, and the expansion stress of free gas on micropore fractures. N2 has good injectability in low-permeability coal seams and has the dual functions of improving coal seam permeability and enhancing gas flow, which can significantly improve the effectiveness of low-permeability coal seam gas control and promote the efficient utilization of gas resources.

Abstract Bulk analyses of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) samples are complicated by the tumor microenvironment (TME), i.e. signals from fibroblasts, endocrine, exocrine, and immune cells. Despite this, we and others have established tumor and stroma subtypes with prognostic significance. However, understanding of underlying signals driving distinct immune and stromal landscapes is still incomplete. Here we integrate 92 single cell RNA-seq samples from seven independent studies to build a reproducible PDAC atlas with a focus on tumor-TME interdependence. Patients with activated stroma are synonymous with higher myofibroblastic and immunogenic fibroblasts, and furthermore show increased M2-like macrophages and regulatory T-cells. Contrastingly, patients with ‘normal’ stroma show M1-like recruitment, elevated effector and exhausted T-cells. To aid interoperability of future studies, we provide a pretrained cell type classifier and an atlas of subtype-based signaling factors that we also validate in mouse data. Ultimately, this work leverages the heterogeneity among single-cell studies to create a comprehensive view of the orchestra of signaling interactions governing PDAC.

Abstract Background Breast density is strongly associated with breast cancer risk. Fully automated quantitative density assessment methods have recently been developed that could facilitate large-scale studies, although data on associations with long-term breast cancer risk are limited. We examined LIBRA assessments and breast cancer risk and compared results to prior assessments using Cumulus, an established computer-assisted method requiring manual thresholding. Methods We conducted a cohort study among 21,150 non-Hispanic white female participants of the Research Program in Genes, Environment and Health of Kaiser Permanente Northern California who were 40–74 years at enrollment, followed for up to 10 years, and had archived processed screening mammograms acquired on Hologic or General Electric full-field digital mammography (FFDM) machines and prior Cumulus density assessments available for analysis. Dense area (DA), non-dense area (NDA), and percent density (PD) were assessed using LIBRA software. Cox regression was used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) for breast cancer associated with DA, NDA and PD modeled continuously in standard deviation (SD) increments, adjusting for age, mammogram year, body mass index, parity, first-degree family history of breast cancer, and menopausal hormone use. We also examined differences by machine type and breast view. Results The adjusted HRs for breast cancer associated with each SD increment of DA, NDA and PD were 1.36 (95% confidence interval, 1.18–1.57), 0.85 (0.77–0.93) and 1.44 (1.26–1.66) for LIBRA and 1.44 (1.33–1.55), 0.81 (0.74–0.89) and 1.54 (1.34–1.77) for Cumulus, respectively. LIBRA results were generally similar by machine type and breast view, although associations were strongest for Hologic machines and mediolateral oblique views. Results were also similar during the first 2 years, 2–5 years and 5–10 years after the baseline mammogram. Conclusion Associations with breast cancer risk were generally similar for LIBRA and Cumulus density measures and were sustained for up to 10 years. These findings support the suitability of fully automated LIBRA assessments on processed FFDM images for large-scale research on breast density and cancer risk.

Abstract Background work alienation is receiving increasing attention as a psychological risk at work, and little is known about the mechanisms of role ambiguity and work alienation in nurses in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. This article aims to examine how role ambiguity affects work alienation among Chinese nurses during the two years after COVID-19 pandemic and verify emotional exhaustion as mediators. Methods A cross-sectional study design was used to recruit 281 Chinese nurses. Nurses completed online questionnaires containing demographic characteristics, role ambiguity, emotional exhaustion, and work alienation, and SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 24.0 were used for data analysis and structural equation modelling. Developing novel, safe, and efficient proangiogenic drugs is an important approach for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. In this study, 4 new compounds, including 3 azaphilones (1–3) and 1 dihydroisocoumarin (4), as well as 13 known compounds (5–17), were isolated from the sea-mud-derived fungus Neopestalotiopsis sp. HN-1-6 from the Beibu Gulf of China. The structures of the new compounds were determined by NMR, MS, ECD, and NMR calculations. Compounds 3, 5, and 7 exhibited noteworthy proangiogenic activities in a zebrafish model at a concentration of 40 μM, without displaying cytotoxicity toward five human cell lines. In addition, some compounds demonstrated antibacterial effects against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans, with MIC values ranging from 64 μg/mL to 256 μg/mL.

Intergenerational justice entitles the maximum retention of Earth’s biodiversity. The 2022 United Nations COP 15, “Ecological Civilisation: Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth”, is committed to protecting 30% of Earth’s terrestrial environments and, through COP 28, to mitigate the effects of the climate catastrophe on the biosphere. We focused this review on three core themes: the need and potential of reproduction biotechnologies, biobanks, and conservation breeding programs (RBCs) to satisfy sustainability goals; the technical state and current application of RBCs; and how to achieve the future potentials of RBCs in a rapidly evolving environmental and cultural landscape. RBCs include the hormonal stimulation of reproduction, the collection and storage of sperm and oocytes, and artificial fertilisation. Emerging technologies promise the perpetuation of species solely from biobanked biomaterials stored for perpetuity. Despite significant global declines and extinctions of amphibians, and predictions of a disastrous future for most biodiversity, practical support for amphibian RBCs remains limited mainly to a few limited projects in wealthy Western countries. We discuss the potential of amphibian RBCs to perpetuate amphibian diversity and prevent extinctions within multipolar geopolitical, cultural, and economic frameworks. We argue that a democratic, globally inclusive organisation is needed to focus RBCs on regions with the highest amphibian diversity. Prioritisation should include regional and international collaborations, community engagement, and support for RBC facilities ranging from zoos and other institutions to those of private carers. We tabulate a standard terminology for field programs associated with RBCs for publication and media consistency.

The unmanned farm control platform is of great significance in promoting the supervision of farm production with less manpower or autonomous operation of farm machinery and the construction of farm informatization. Addressing the existing control platform for farm location information acquisition is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and lacks the whole process control of multiple types of farm machinery. In this paper, we propose an Internet of Things (IoT) control scheme for intelligent farm machinery operation of unmanned farms and design the access standards for multiple types of farm machinery, as well as realize the remote control of intelligent farm machinery operation by constructing a remote control model. A high-precision map construction method is designed to improve the DeepLabV3+ algorithm to identify fields and roads. The control models of path planning, remote task, remote control, and safety system are built to achieve the remote control of intelligent agricultural machinery operation. The proposed technology is implemented in the platform integration and application tests are carried out. The error of the constructed high-precision map is less than 3 cm, the completeness rate of the automatic boundary extraction rate is 96.71%, and the correctness rate is 95.63%, which can be used to obtain the boundary instead of manual labeling or on-site point picking. The use of the platform for the simultaneous control of three farm machinery operations reduces the number of people in operation and production and reduces the professional requirements of the personnel, which will promote the management of the entire farm by one person or even by no one in the future.

To address public participation-oriented, large group decision-making problems with uncertain attribute weights, we propose a multi-attribute decision-making method considering public satisfaction. Firstly, a large group is organized to provide their opinions in the form of linguistic variables. Public opinions can be categorized into two types based on their content: one reflects the effectiveness of an alternative implementation and the other reflects the public expectations. Secondly, the two types of public opinions are sorted separately by linguistic variables. The evaluation of alternatives and the evaluation of expectations in different attributes are determined, both of which are expressed in the form of linguistic distributions. These two evaluations are then compared to determine the public satisfaction of the attributes in different alternatives. Thirdly, based on the deviation of public satisfaction in different attributes, a weight optimization model is constructed to determine the attribute weights. Fourthly, leveraging the interval credibility of attribute satisfaction for various alternatives, an evidential reasoning non-linear optimization model is established to obtain the comprehensive utility evaluation value for each alternative, which is used for ranking. Finally, a numerical example is employed to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach. According to the results of the numerical example, it can be concluded that the proposed approach can be effectively applied to large group decision-making problems that consider public satisfaction. Based on the comparison of methods, the proposed approach has certain advantages in reflecting public opinions and setting reference points, which can ensure the reliability of the decision results.

The consumption of edible vegetable oil is an important source of essential fatty acids and vitamin E for the human body. Guiding residents to consume scientifically and reasonably control the intake of edible oils is an important part of promoting the construction of a healthy China. Currently, Chinese residents have an insufficient understanding of the scientific consumption of edible oils, leading to an intake exceeding the dietary recommendations, resulting in excessive fat intake and increasing the risk of chronic diseases such as obesity and cardiovascular diseases. Based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), this study analyzed the cognitive preferences and willingness to pay a premium for edible vegetable oils among urban consumers in China. The survey included 1098 Chinese urban consumers of vegetable oils. The research found that attitudes, health value, monetary value, and environmental endowment of urban residents are the main predicting factors of the intention to purchase high-quality vegetable oils. This study confirms the applicability of the Theory of Planned Behavior in the consumption of high-quality vegetable oils and provides theoretical contributions and insights for Chinese enterprises and policymakers in formulating marketing strategies for vegetable oils.

This study utilized bismaleimide (BMI) resin, reinforced with introduced ether bonds, as a binding matrix, in combination with silicon carbide (SiC), for the fabrication of composite materials. A thorough investigation was conducted to assess the influence of diverse processing parameters on the mechanical properties and high-temperature thermo-oxidative stability of these composites. Experimental results indicate a notable improvement in the mechanical properties of the composites upon the incorporation of ether bonds, in contrast to their unmodified counterparts. The variation in performance among composites with different ratios and molding densities is apparent. Within a certain range, an increase in resin content and molding density is correlated with improved bending strength in the composites. With a resin content of 27.5 vol% and a molding density of 2.31 g/cm3, the composite achieved a maximum flexural strength of 109.52 MPa, representing a 24% increase compared to its pre-modification state. Even after exposure to high-temperature heat treatment, the composites displayed commendable mechanical properties compared to their pre-ether bond modification counterparts, maintaining 74.5% of the strength of the untreated composites at 300 °C. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) microstructures of composite materials correlate remarkably well with their mechanical properties.

Currently, the sol-gel technique is employed in the synthesis of high-performance vitrified bonds; however, its application in the fabrication of stacked abrasives has been minimally explored. Furthermore, the methods utilized in the production of abrasive particles for stacked abrasives are technically challenging and incur high costs, which hinders their actual industrial application. Consequently, this study utilizes the sol-gel approach to synthesize a Na2O-B2O3-SiO2 ternary system vitrified bond powder and employs a molding and crushing method, which offers a lower technological barrier and reduced preparation costs, for the production of abrasive particles subsequently fabricating corundum stacked abrasives. Upon setting the binder composition to a molar ratio of n(SiO2):n(B2O3):n(Na2O) = 65:23:12, it was observed that the crystallization within the glass matrix was minimized and the optimal sintering temperature for the synthesized laminate abrasive to be sustained at 820 °C. At the aforementioned temperature, the binder melt is capable of flowing uniformly amongst the abrasive granules, thereby ensuring a robust encapsulation of the particles. The average single particle compressive strength of the prepared corundum stacked abrasive with a grain size of forty mesh can reach the highest of all composition points at 28.56 N and the average single particle compressive strength of the prepared diamond stacked abrasive is 28.14 N.
