Abstract: Analyzing 600pb-1 of e+e- collisions at 4170 MeV center-of-mass energy with the CLEO-c detector, we measure the branching fraction B(Ds+→τ+ν)= (5.52±0.57±0.21)% using the τ+→ρ+ν̄ decay mode. Combining with other CLEO measurements of B(Ds+→τ+ν) we determine the pseudoscalar decay constant fDs=(259.7±7.8±3.4)MeV consistent with the value obtained from our Ds+→μ+ν measurement of (257.6±10.3±4.3)MeV. Combining these measurements we find a value of fDs=(259.0±6.2±3.0)MeV, that differs from the most accurate prediction based on unquenched lattice gauge theory of (241±3)MeV by 2.4 standard deviations. We also present the first measurements of B(Ds+→K0π+π0)=(1.00±0.18±0.04)%, and B(Ds+→π+π0π0)=(0.65±0.13±0.03)%, and measure a new value for B(Ds+→ηρ+)=(8.9±0.6±0.5)%. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using 24 million $\psi' \equiv \psi(2S)$ decays in CLEO-c, we have searched for higher multipole admixtures in electric-dipole-dominated radiative transitions in charmonia. We find good agreement between our data and theoretical predictions for magnetic quadrupole (M2) amplitudes in the transitions $\psi' \to \gamma \chi_{c1,2}$ and $\chi_{c1,2} \to \gamma J/\psi$, in striking contrast to some previous measurements. Let $b_2^J$ and $a_2^J$ denote the normalized M2 amplitudes in the respective aforementioned decays, where the superscript $J$ refers to the angular momentum of the $\chi_{cJ}$. By performing unbinned maximum likelihood fits to full five-parameter angular distributions, we determine the ratios $a_2^{J=1}/a_2^{J=2} = 0.67^{+0.19}_{-0.13}$ and $a_2^{J=1}/b_2^{J=1} = -2.27^{+0.57}_{-0.99}$, where the theoretical predictions are independent of the charmed quark magnetic moment and are $a_2^{J=1}/a_2^{J=2} = 0.676 \pm 0.071$ and $a_2^{J=1}/b_2^{J=1} = -2.27 \pm 0.16$., Comment: 32 pages, 7 figures, acceptance update

Abstract: Using the CLEO-c detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have measured inclusive and exclusive cross sections for the production of D+, D0 and Ds+ mesons in e+e- annihilations at 13 center-of-mass energies between 3.97 and 4.26 GeV. Exclusive cross sections are presented for final states consisting of two charm mesons (DD̄, D*D̄, D*D̄*, Ds+Ds-, Ds*+Ds-, and Ds*+Ds*-) and for processes in which the charm-meson pair is accompanied by a pion. No enhancement in any final state is observed at the energy of the Y(4260). © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using e+e- collision data taken with the CLEO-c detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have investigated the direct photon spectrum in the decay ψ(2S)→γgg. We determine the ratio of the inclusive direct photon decay rate to that of the dominant three-gluon decay rate ψ(2S)→ggg (Rγ≡⌈Γgg(γgg)/⌈(ggg)) to be Rγ(zγ>0.4)=0.070±0.002±0.019±0.011, with zγ defined as the scaled photon energy relative to the beam energy. The errors shown are statistical, systematic, and that due to the uncertainty in the input branching fractions used to extract the ratio, respectively. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using e+e-→Ds-Ds*+ and Ds*-Ds+ interactions at 4170 MeV collected with the CLEO-c detector, we investigate the semileptonic decays Ds+→f0(980)e+ν and Ds+→e+ν. By examining the decay rates as functions of the four-momentum transfer squared q2, we measure the ratio [dBdq2(Ds+→f0(980)e+ν)B(f0→π+π-)]/[dBdq2(Ds+→e+ν) B(→K+K-)] at q2 of zero to be (42±11)%. This ratio has been predicted to equal the rate ratio [B(Bs→J/ψf0)B(f0→π+π-)]/ [B(Bs→J/ψ)B(→K+K-)], thus indicating that the CP eigenstate J/ψf0 could be useful for measuring CP violation via Bs mixing. Assuming a simple pole model for the form factor |f+(q2)| in the f0e+ν decay, we find a pole mass of (1.7-0.7+4.5±0.2)GeV. We also determine the f0 mass and width as (977-9+11±1) and (91-22+30±3)MeV, respectively. In addition, we present updated results for B(Ds+→f0(980)e+ν) B(f0→π+π-)=(0.20±0.03±0.01)% and B(Ds+→e+ν)=(2. 36±0.23±0.13)%. Assuming that the f0 wave function is a combination of strange and nonstrange quark-antiquark components, we use our measurement for B(Ds+→f0(980)e+ν) to extract a value of the mixing angle that we find consistent with s̄s dominance, adding to the mystery as to why the f0 decays predominantly to two pions rather than two kaons. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using data collected near the Ds* ± Ds Ds peak production energy E cm 4170 MeV by the CLEO-c detector, we search for Ds+ exclusive hadronic decays involving. We find B Ds+ n+ w 0.21 ± 0.09 ± %, B Ds+ n+ 2.78 ± 0.65 ± 0.25 %, Ds+ n+ n+ n- 1.58 ± 0.09%. Ds+ n+ 0.85± 0.54 ± 0.06%. K+. n+ n- 0.54%, and The upper limits are at 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We measure the absolute branching fractions of $\Ds$ semileptonic decays where the hadron in the final state is one of $\phi$, $\eta$, $\etap$, $\Ks$, $\Kstar$, and $f_0$, using $2.8 \times 10^5$ $\epm \to \Ds\Dsstar$ decays collected in the CLEO-c detector at a center-of-mass energy close to 4170 MeV. We obtain ${\cal B}(\Dsp\to \phi e^+ \nu_e) =(2.29\pm 0.37 \pm 0.11)$%, ${\cal B}(\Dsp\to \eta e^+ \nu_e) =(2.48 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.13)$%, ${\cal B}(\Dsp\to \etap e^+ \nu_e) =(0.91 \pm 0.33 \pm 0.05)$%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. We also obtain ${\cal B}(\Dsp\to K^0 e^+ \nu_e) =(0.37\pm 0.10 \pm 0.02)$%, and ${\cal B}(\Dsp\to K^{\star 0} e^+ \nu_e) =(0.18 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.01)$%, which are the first measurements of Cabibbo suppressed exclusive $\Ds$ semileptonic decays, and, ${\cal B}(\Dsp\to f_0 e^+ \nu_e) \times {\cal B}(f_0 \to \pip\pim) =(0.13\pm 0.04 \pm 0.01)$%. Abstract: The first measurements of the coherence factors (RKππ0 and RK3π) and the average strong-phase differences (δDKππ0 and δDK3π) for D0→K-π+π0 and D0→K-π+π+π- are presented. These parameters can be used to improve the determination of the unitarity triangle angle γ in B-→DK- decays, where D is a D0 or D̄0 meson decaying to the same final state. The measurements are made using quantum-correlated, fully reconstructed D0D̄0 pairs produced in e+e- collisions at the ψ(3770) resonance. The measured values are: RKππ0=0.84±0.07, δDKππ0=(227-17+14)°, RK3π=0.33-0.23+0.20, and δDK3π=(114-23+26)°. These results indicate significant coherence in the decay D0→K-π+π0, whereas lower coherence is observed in the decay D0→K-π+π+π-. The analysis also results in a small improvement in the knowledge of other D-meson parameters, in particular, the strong-phase difference for D0→K-π+, δDKπ, and the mixing parameter y. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We exploit the quantum coherence between pair-produced D0 and D̄0 in ψ(3770) decays to make a first determination of the relative strong phase differences between D0→KS0π+π- and D̄0→KS0π+π-, which are of great importance in determining the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle γ/Φ3 in B-→D0(D̄0)K- decays. Using 818pb-1 of e+e- collision data collected with the CLEO-c detector at Ecm=3.77GeV, we employ a binned Dalitz-plot analysis of KS0π+π- and KL0π+π- decays recoiling against flavor-tagged, CP-tagged, and KS0π+π - tagged events to determine these strong phase differences. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using the entire CLEO-c ψ(3770)→DD̄ event sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 818pb-1 and approximately 5.4×106 DD̄ events, we present a study of the decays D0→π-e+νe, D0→K-e+νe, D+→π0e+νe, and D+→K̄0e+νe. Via a tagged analysis technique, in which one D is fully reconstructed in a hadronic mode, partial rates for semileptonic decays by the other D are measured in several q2 bins. We fit these rates using several form factor parametrizations and report the results, including form factor shape parameters and the branching fractions B(D0→π-e+νe)=(0.288±0. 008±0.003)%, B(D0→K-e+νe)=(3.50±0.03±0.04)%, B(D+→π0e+νe)=(0.405±0.016±0.009)%, and B(D+→K̄0e+νe)=(8.83±0.10±0.20)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. Taking input from lattice quantum chromodynamics, we also find |Vcd|=0.234±0.007±0. 002±0.025 and |Vcs|=0.985±0.009±0.006±0.103, where the third uncertainties are from lattice quantum chromodynamics. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We search for simultaneous baryon and lepton number violating decays of the D0 meson. Specifically, we use 281pb-1 of data taken on the ψ(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector at the CESR collider to look for decays D0→p̄e+, D̄0→p̄e+, D0→pe-, and D̄0→pe-. We find no significant signals and set the following branching fraction upper limits: D0→p̄e+(D̄0→p̄e+)

Abstract: We perform a Dalitz plot analysis of the decay Ds+→K+K-π+ with the CLEO-c data set of 586pb-1 of e+e- collisions accumulated at s=4.17GeV. This corresponds to about 0.57×106 Ds±Ds* pairs from which we select 14400 candidates with a background of roughly 15%. In contrast to previous measurements we find good agreement with our data only by including an additional f0(1370)π+ contribution. We measure the magnitude, phase, and fit fraction of K*(892)0K+, (1020)π+, K0*(1430)K+, f0(980)π+, f0(1710)π+, and f0(1370)π+ contributions and limit the possible contributions of other KK and Kπ resonances that could appear in this decay. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using a sample of 2.59×107 ψ(2S) decays collected by the CLEO-c detector, we present results of a study of χc0 and χc2 decays into two-meson final states. We present the world's most precise measurements of the χcJ,(J=0,2)→π+π-, π0π0, K+K-, KS0KS0, ηη, and η′η′ branching fractions, and a search for χc decays into ηη′. These results shed light on the mechanism of charmonium decays into pseudoscalar mesons. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We examine e+e-→Ds-Ds*+ and Ds*-Ds+ interactions at 4170 MeV using the CLEO-c detector in order to measure the decay constant fDs+ with good precision. Previously our measurements were substantially higher than the most precise lattice based QCD calculation of (241± 3)MeV. Here we use the Ds+→+ν channel, where the + designates either a μ+ or a τ+, when the τ+→π+ν̄. Analyzing both modes independently, we determine B(Ds+→μ+ν)=( 0.565±0.045±0.017)%, and B(Ds+→τ+ν)=(6.42±0.81± 0.18)%. We also analyze them simultaneously to find an effective value of Beff(Ds+→μ+ν)=(0.591± 0.037±0.018)% and fDs+=( 263.3±8.2±3.9)MeV. Combining with the CLEO-c value determined independently using Ds+→τ+ν, τ+→e+νν̄ decays, we extract fDs+=( 259.5±6.6±3.1)MeV. Combining with our previous determination of B(D+→μ+ν), we extract the ratio fDs+/fD+=1.26±0.06±0.02. No evidence is found for a CP asymmetry between Γ(Ds+→μ+ν) and Γ(Ds-→μ-ν); specifically the fractional difference in rates is measured to be (4.8±6.1)%. Finally, we find B(Ds+→e+ν)

Abstract: Using ψ(2S)→π+π-J/ψ, J/ψ→γη′ events acquired with the CLEO-c detector at the CESR e+e- collider, we make the first observations of the decays η′→π+π-π0 and η′→π+π-e+e-, measuring absolute branching fractions (37-9+11±4)×10-4 and (25-9+12±5)×10-4, respectively. For η′→π+π-π0, this result probes the mechanism of isospin violation and the roles of π0/η/η′-mixing and final state rescattering in strong decays. We also set upper limits on branching fractions for η′ decays to π+π-μ+μ-, 2(π+π-), π+π-2π0, 2(π+π-)π0, 3(π+π-), and invisible final states. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using samples of (5.93±0.10)×106 Υ(3S) decays and (9.11±0.14)×106 Υ(2S) decays collected with the CLEO detector, we report improved measurements of the following branching fractions: B(Υ(3S)→Υ(1S)π+π-)=(4.46±0.01±0.13)%, B(Υ(2S)→Υ(1S)π+π-)=(18.02±0.02±0.61)%, B(Υ(3S)→Υ(1S)π0π0)=(2.24±0.09±0.11)%, B(Υ(2S)→Υ(1S)π0π0)=(8.43±0.16±0.42)%, and B(Υ(3S)→Υ(2S)π0π0)=(1.82±0.09±0.12)%. In each case, the first uncertainty reported is statistical, while the second is systematic. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using 2.45×107 ψ(2S) decays collected with the CLEO-c detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring we present the most precise measurements of magnetic dipole transitions in the charmonium system. We measure B(ψ(2S)→γηc)=(4.32±0.16±0.60)×10-3, B(J/ψ→γηc)/B(ψ(2S)→γηc)=4.59±0. 23±0.64, and B(J/ψ→γηc)=(1.98±0.09±0.30) %. We observe a distortion in the ηc line shape due to the photon-energy dependence of the magnetic dipole transition rate. We find that measurements of the ηc mass are sensitive to the line shape, suggesting an explanation for the discrepancy between measurements of the ηc mass in radiative transitions and other production mechanisms. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We study the inclusive decays of Ds+ mesons, using data collected near the Ds*+ Ds- peak production energy E_cm=4170 MeV by the CLEO-c detector. We report the inclusive yields of Ds+ decays to K^+ X, K^- X, KS0 X, pi^+ X, pi^- X, pi^0 X, eta X, eta' X, phi X, omega X and f0(980) X, and also decays into pairs of kaons, Ds+ -> KK-bar X. Abstract: Using Υ(2S) and Υ(3S) data collected with the CLEO III detector we have searched for decays of χbJ to final states with open charm. We fully reconstruct D0 mesons with pD0>2.5GeV/c in three decay modes (K-π+, K-π+π0, and K-π-π+π+) in coincidence with radiative transition photons that tag the production of one of the χbJ(nP) states. Significant signals are obtained for the two J=1 states. Recent nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) calculations of χbJ(nP)→cc̄X depend on one nonperturbative parameter per χbJ triplet. The extrapolation from the observed D0X rate over a limited momentum range to a full cc̄X rate also depends on these same parameters. Using our data to fit for these parameters, we extract results which agree well with NRQCD predictions, confirming the expectation that charm production is largest for the J=1 states. In particular, for J=1, our results are consistent with cc̄g accounting for about one-quarter of all hadronic decays. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Analyzing Y(nS) decays acquired with the CLEO detector operating at the CESR e+e- collider, we measure for the first time the product branching fractions B[Y(nS)→YX bJ((n-1)P)]B[X bJ(n-1)P)→Xi] for n=2 and 3, where Xi denotes, for each i, one of the 14 exclusive light-hadron final states for which we observe significant signals in both X bJ(1P) and X bJ(2P) decays. We also determine upper limits for the electric dipole (E1) transitions Y(3S)→YX bJ(1P). © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report the first observation of Υ(2S)→ηΥ(1S), with a branching fraction B=(2.1-0.6+0.7(stat)±0.3(syst))×10-4 and a statistical significance 5.3σ. Data were acquired with the CLEO III detector at the CESR e+e- symmetric collider. This is the first process observed involving a b-quark spin flip. For related transitions, 90% confidence limits in units of 10-4 are B(Υ(2S)→π0Υ(1S))

Abstract: A precision measurement of the mass of the hc(P11) state of charmonium has been made using a sample of 24.5×106 ψ(2S) events produced in e+e- annihilation at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR). The reaction used was ψ(2S)→π0hc, π0→γγ, hc→γηc, and the reaction products were detected in the CLEO-c detector. Data have been analyzed both for the inclusive reaction and for the exclusive reactions in which ηc decays are reconstructed in 15 hadronic decay channels. Consistent results are obtained in the two analyses. The averaged results of the present measurements are M(hc)=3525.28±0.19(stat.)±0.12(syst.)MeV, and B(ψ(2S)→π0hc)×B(hc→γηc)=(4.19±0. 32±0.45)×10-4. Using the PJ3 centroid mass, ΔMhf(1P) M(χcJ) -M(hc)=+0.02±0.19±0.13MeV. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We measure the mass of the η′ meson using ψ(2S) →π+π-J/ψ, J/ψ→γη′ events acquired with the CLEO-c detector operating at the CESR e+e- collider. Using three decay modes, η′→ρ0γ, η′→π+π-η with η→γγ, and η′→π+π-η with η→π+π-π0, we find Mη′=957.793±0.054±0. 036MeV, in which the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. This result is consistent with but substantially more precise than the current world average. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We search for a non-SM-like CP-odd Higgs boson (a10) decaying to τ+τ- or μ+μ- in radiative decays of the Υ(1S). No significant signal is found, and upper limits on the product branching ratios are set. Our τ+τ- results are almost 2 orders of magnitude more stringent than previous upper limits. Our data provide no evidence for a Higgs state with a mass of 214 MeV decaying to μ+μ-, previously proposed as an explanation for 3 Σ+→pμ+μ- events observed by the HyperCP experiment. Our results constrain NMSSM models. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report on a search for CP asymmetry in the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay D+→K+K-π+ using a data sample of 818pb-1 accumulated with the CLEO-c detector on the ψ(3770) resonance. A Dalitz-plot analysis is used to determine the amplitudes of the intermediate states. We find no evidence for CP violation either in specific two-body amplitudes or integrated over the entire phase space. The CP asymmetry in the latter case is measured to be (-0.03±0.84±0.29)%. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We measure the branching ratio of the purely leptonic decay of the D+ meson with unprecedented precision as B(D+→μ+ν)=(3.82±0. 32±0.09)×10-4, using 818pb-1 of data taken on the ψ(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector at the CESR collider. We use this determination to derive a value for the pseudoscalar decay constant fD+, combining with measurements of the D+ lifetime and assuming |Vcd|=|Vus|. We find fD+=(205.8±8.5±2.5)MeV. The decay rate asymmetry Γ(D+→μ+ν)-Γ(D-→μ-ν̄)Γ(D+→μ +ν)+Γ(D-→μ-ν̄)=0.08±0.08, consistent with no CP violation. We also set 90% confidence level upper limits on B(D+→τ+ν )

Abstract: We perform a Dalitz plot analysis of D+→K-π+π+ decay with the CLEO-c data set of 572pb-1 of e+e- collisions accumulated at the ψ(3770). This corresponds to 1.6×106 D+D- pairs from which we select 140793 candidate events with a small background of 1.1%. We compare our results with previous measurements using the isobar model. We modify the isobar model with an improved description of some of the contributing resonances and get better agreement with our data. We also consider a quasi-model-independent approach and measure the magnitude and phase of the contributing Kπ S wave in the range of invariant masses from the threshold to the maximum in this decay. This gives an improved description of our data over the isobar model. Finally we allow for an isospin-two π+π+ S wave contribution and find that adding this to both the isobar model and the quasi-model-independent approach gives the best description of our data. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using data taken with the CLEO-c detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have investigated the direct-photon momentum spectrum in the decay J/{psi}(1S){yields}{gamma}gg, via the ''tagged'' process: e{sup +}e{sup -}{yields}{psi}(2S); {psi}(2S){yields}J/{psi}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}; J/{psi}{yields}{gamma}+X. Including contributions from two-body radiative decay processes, we find the ratio of the inclusive direct-photon branching fraction to that of the dominant three-gluon branching fraction [R{sub {gamma}}=B(gg{gamma})/B(ggg)] to be R{sub {gamma}}=0.137{+-}0.001{+-}0.016{+-}0.004, where the errors shown are statistical, systematic, and the model-dependent uncertainty related to the extrapolation to zero photon energy. The shape of the scaled photon energy spectrum in J/{psi}{yields}gg{gamma} is observed to be very similar to that of {upsilon}{yields}gg{gamma}. The R{sub {gamma}} value obtained is roughly consistent with that expected by a simple quark-charge scaling [R{sub {gamma}}{approx}(q{sub c}/q{sub b}){sup 2}] of the value determined at the {upsilon}(1S), but somewhat higher than the value expected from the running of the strong coupling constant.

Abstract: We exploit the quantum coherence between pair-produced D0 and D̄0 in ψ(3770) decays to study charm mixing, which is characterized by the parameters x and y, and to make a first determination of the relative strong phase δ between doubly Cabibbo-suppressed D0→K+π- and Cabibbo-favored D̄0→K+π-. We analyze a sample of 1.0×106 D0D̄0 pairs from 281pb-1 of e+e- collision data collected with the CLEO-c detector at Ecm=3.77GeV. By combining CLEO-c measurements with branching fraction input and time-integrated measurements of RM≡(x2+y2)/2 and RWS≡Γ(D0→K+π-)/Γ(D̄0→K+π-) from other experiments, we find cosδ=1.03-0.17+0.31±0.06, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. In addition, by further including external measurements of charm mixing parameters, we obtain an alternate measurement of cosδ=1.10±0.35±0.07, as well as xsinδ=(4.4-1.8+2.7±2.9)×10-3 and δ=(22-12-11+11+9) °. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report determination of branching fractions for the decays ψ(2S)→h+J/ψ, where h=any, π+π-, π0π0, η, π0, and γγ through χc0,1,2. These measurements use 27M ψ(2S) decays produced in e+e- collision data collected with the CLEO detector. The resulting branching fractions and ratios thereof improve upon previously achieved precision in all cases, and in combination with other measurements permit determination of B(χcJ→γJ/ψ) and B(ψ(2S)→light hadrons). © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We search for a non-SM-like CP-odd Higgs boson (a(1)(0)) decaying to tau(+)tau(-) or mu(+)mu(-) in radiative decays of the Upsilon(1S). No significant signal is found, and upper limits on the product branching ratios are set. Our tau(+)tau(-) results are almost 2 orders of magnitude more stringent than previous upper limits. Our data provide no evidence for a Higgs state with a mass of 214 MeV decaying to mu(+)mu(-), previously proposed as an explanation for 3 Sigma(+)-->pmu(+)mu(-) events observed by the HyperCP experiment. Our results constrain NMSSM models.
