Development of extramural health care for chronic wounds is still in its infancy in China, and thus it is urgent and vital to establish a correct concept and practicable principles. The authors reviewed recent domestic and international literature and summarized the following treatment procedures and principles for extramural health care of chronic wounds. (1) The patient needs to do self-assessment of the wound by using available simple methods; (2) The patient consults with professional physicians or nurses on wound care to define the severity and etiology of the non-healing wound; (3) Professionals evaluate the existing treatment strategies; (4) Etiological treatments are given by professionals; (5) Patients buy needed dressings via the more convenient ways from pharmacies, e-commerce platform or others; (6) Professionals provide a standardized and reasonable therapeutic plan based on the patient's wound conditions; (7) Both professionals and the patient pay attention to complications to prevent adverse outcomes; (8) Professionals strengthen the public education on wound care and integrated rehabilitation. This review expected to provide new perspectives on the therapeutic strategies for chronic wounds in an extramural setting.

With the rapid development of warehouse robots in logistics and other industries, research on their path planning has become increasingly important. Based on the analysis of various conflicts that occur when the warehouse robot travels, this study proposes a two-level vehicle path planning model for multi-warehouse robots, which integrates static and dynamic planning to improve operational efficiency and reduce operating costs. In the static phase, the blockage factor is introduced to enhance the ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm as a negative feedback mechanism to effectively avoid the blockage nodes during movement. In the dynamic stage, a dynamic priority mechanism is designed to adjust the routing strategy in real time and give the optimal path according to the real situation. To evaluate the model’s effectiveness, simulations were performed under different operating environments and application strategies based on an actual grid environment map. The simulation results confirm that the proposed model outperforms other methods in terms of average running distance, number of blocked nodes, percentage of replanned paths, and average running time, showing great potential in optimizing warehouse operations.

The functional investigation of proteins holds immense significance in unraveling physiological and pathological mechanisms of organisms as well as advancing the development of novel pharmaceuticals in biomedicine. However, the study of cellular protein function using conventional genetic manipulation methods may yield unpredictable outcomes and erroneous conclusions. Therefore, precise modulation of protein activity within cells holds immense significance in the realm of biomedical research. Chromophore-assisted light inactivation (CALI) is a technique that labels photosensitizers onto target proteins and induces the production of reactive oxygen species through light control to achieve precise inactivation of target proteins. Based on the type and characteristics of photosensitizers, different excitation light sources and labeling methods are selected. For instance, KillerRed forms a fusion protein with the target protein through genetic engineering for labeling and inactivates the target protein via light activation. CALI is presently predominantly employed in diverse biomedical domains encompassing investigations into protein functionality and interaction, intercellular signal transduction research, as well as cancer exploration and therapy. With the continuous advancement of CALI technology, it is anticipated to emerge as a formidable instrument in the realm of life sciences, yielding more captivating outcomes for fundamental life sciences and precise disease diagnosis and treatment.

Drug-eluting stents (DES) and dual antiplatelet regimens have significantly improved the clinical management of ischemic heart disease; however, the drugs loaded with DES in clinical practice are mostly paclitaxel or rapamycin derivatives, which target symptoms of post implantation proliferation and inflammation, leading to delayed re-endothelialization and neo-atherosclerosis. Along with the treatments already in place, there is a need for novel strategies to lessen the negative clinical outcomes of DES delays as well as a need for greater understanding of their pathobiological mechanisms. This review concentrates on the function of cathepsins (Cats) in the inflammatory response and granulation tissue formation that follow Cat-induced damage to the vasculature scaffold, as well as the functions of Cats in intimal hyperplasia, which is characterized by the migration and proliferation of smooth muscle cells, and endothelial denudation, re-endothelialization, and/or neo-endothelialization. Additionally, Cats can alter essential neointima formation and immune response inside scaffolds, and if Cats are properly controlled in vivo, they may improve scaffold biocompatibility. This unique profile of functions could lead to an original concept for a cathepsin-based coronary intervention treatment as an adjunct to stent placement.

Background Previous studies have demonstrated that excitatory repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) can improve the cognitive function of patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) is a novel excitatory rTMS protocol for brain activity stimulation with the ability to induce long-term potentiation-like plasticity and represents a promising treatment for AD. However, the long-term effects of iTBS on cognitive decline and brain structure in patients with AD are unknown.Aims We aimed to explore whether repeating accelerated iTBS every three months could slow down the cognitive decline in patients with AD.Methods In this randomised, assessor-blinded, controlled trial, iTBS was administered to the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) of 42 patients with AD for 14 days every 13 weeks. Measurements included the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), a comprehensive neuropsychological battery, and the grey matter volume (GMV) of the hippocampus. Patients were evaluated at baseline and after follow-up. The longitudinal pipeline of the Computational Anatomy Toolbox for SPM was used to detect significant treatment-related changes over time.Results The iTBS group maintained MoCA scores relative to the control group (t=3.26, p=0.013) and reduced hippocampal atrophy, which was significantly correlated with global degeneration scale changes. The baseline Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score, apolipoprotein E genotype and Clinical Dementia Rating were indicative of MoCA scores at follow-up. The frequent occurrence of secondary traffic accidents, characterized by vehicles losing control and straying into opposing lanes on highways, has emerged as a pressing concern. To address this issue, attention has been focused on the pivotal role of median guardrails as safety barriers. While conventional guardrails have effectively hindered vehicles from veering off course, mitigating accident severity, they are now inadequate in meeting the heightened protective standards necessitated by the surge in truck traffic and advancements in vehicle capabilities. To evaluate and enhance the protective capabilities of guardrails, this research employs a vehicle finite element (FE) model in conjunction with a W-beam guardrail system. Collision trajectories, acceleration, and displacement metrics were analyzed to compare the effectiveness of three improved guardrail designs in preventing crossing in the event of a runaway truck. Furthermore, based on the design of the retrofitted guardrail, the optimization of the structural parameters was carried out by a multiobjective optimization method using radial basis function (RBF) and NSGA-II algorithms with the size of the guardrail as the design variable. The collision simulation comparisons reveal that the double W-beam arch-reinforced guardrail surpasses both the double W-beam and the arch-reinforced guardrail regarding protective performance. Notably, the double W-beam design offers a viable option for disposing of obsolete guardrails postdemolition. The optimized design underscores that optimal structural protection is achieved when meticulously adjusting the thickness of the upper girder plate and the arch to precise dimensions. This refined guardrail system enhances safety and achieves material efficiency, utilizing less steel in its construction. By elucidating effective design modifications and the determination of optimal structural dimensions, this study provides its ideas for safer roads and more efficient infrastructure development.

Green mining construction (GMC) is a sustainable mining development model with the potential of realizing synergistic development of resources, environment, society, and economy. At present, the green mining strategy has yielded some successes, but there is still a significant gap between theoretical research and practical promotion, owing to the complexity of the green mining system and the diversity of influencing factors. Therefore, in the context of current pressure to normalize environmental protection, how to promote the construction of green mines while taking into account the premise of economic development has become an important issue. Inspired by the form of Drive-Pressure-State-Impact-Response (DPSIR) model, this paper constructs a DPSIR model of the driving mechanism of green mining construction. Using the fuzzy-DEMATEL method, each critical factor and influencing mechanism of GMC is explored, and the network relationship of the critical factors is established. The results show that many factors affect GMC from the perspective of the ecological environment, and 11 critical factors are obtained in varying degrees. Among them, green technology and supervision and long-term mechanism are the most important and influencing factors. Based on the transmission mechanism among these factors, improvement suggestions, and specific strategies are put forward. This research effectively identifies and analyzes the critical factors of GMC from the perspective of driving and response mechanisms, which is helpful to support the construction of ecological civilization and the sustainable development of mining industry.

Flexible anisotropic soft-magnetic composite (FASMC) presents superior magnetic properties in one or more specified directions, showing great potential in the application of microwave absorption, soft robots, and other smart sensors/actuators. However, the fabrication of FASMC using additive manufacturing is challenging due to a trade-off between magnetic properties of the composites enhanced by iron particles and printability during printing. Here, we developed a 4D printing scheme using flexible soft-magnetic photosensitive resin consisting of flexible long-chin acrylic resin monomer and soft magnetic iron particles. Multiple complex structures with good spatial resolution of ∼170 μm were fabricated using magnetic field-assisted digital light processing (MF-DLP). Directional magnetic field was applied during printing, enabling the fabrication of FASMC with strong anisotropic magnetic properties. FASMC with high CIP (carbonyl iron powder, CIP) concentration of up to 45 wt.% was fabricated with excellent tensile strength and elongation up to 460%. Strong anisotropic magnetic properties were demonstrated through a series of stimuli-response testing such as large deformation, anti-deflection, controlled motion, variable stiffness metamaterial, and array assembly, under external magnetic field. This study demonstrates the feasibility and potential of MF-DLP technique for fabrication of FASMC, shedding light on the design and fabrication of next-generation sensors and actuators.

Autophagy is a lysosomal self-degradation pathway that plays an important protective role in maintaining intracellular environment. Deregulation of autophagy is related to several diseases, including cancer, infection, neurodegeneration, aging, and heart disease. In this review, we will summarize recent advances in autophagy-mediated nanomaterials for tumor therapy. Firstly, the autophagy signaling pathway for tumor therapy will be reviewed, including oxidative stress, mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling and autophagy-associated genes pathway. Based on that, many autophagy-mediated nanomaterials have been developed and applied in tumor therapy. According to the different structure of nanomaterials, we will review and evaluate these autophagy-mediated nanomaterials’ therapeutic efficacy and potential clinical application.

Abstract Background Bevacizumab is a monoclonal antibody drug targeting Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), which binds to VEGF receptors to inhibit vascular endothelial cell proliferation and angiogenesis, thus inhibiting tumorigenesis. Pembrolizumab is a monoclonal antibody that can bind to the programmed death-1 (PD-1) receptor, which can block the binding of the PD-1 receptor to its ligands PD-L1 and PD-L2, and release PD-1 pathway-mediated suppression of immune responses. By blocking the activity of PD-1, the purpose of inhibiting tumor growth is achieved. Case presentation We report a severe hematuria of bevacizumab plus pembrolizumab, in a 58-year-old woman with metastatic cervical cancer. After three cycles every three weeks of consolidation chemotherapy (carboplatin, paclitaxel, bevacizumab) and following three cycles consolidation chemotherapy (carboplatin, paclitaxel, bevacizumab, pembrolizumab), the patient presented a worsening state. Manifested as massive gross hematuria with blood clots. After stopping chemotherapy, cefoxitin, tranexamic acid and hemocoagulase atrox therapy was administered resulting in rapid clinical improvement. The patient was a cervical cancer with bladder metastasis that increases the risk of development of hematuria. Inhibition of VEGF, which has anti-apoptotic, anti-inflammatory, and pro-survival influences on endothelial cells, weakens their regenerative capacity and increases expression of proinflammatory genes leading to weakened supporting layers of blood vessels and, hence, to damaged vascular integrity. In our patient, the development of hematuria may result from the anti-VEGF effect of bevacizumab. In addition, pembrolizumab may also cause bleeding, and the mechanism of bleeding caused by pembrolizumab is currently unclear, which may be related to immune mediation. Conclusion To our knowledge, this is the first case reporting on the development of severe hematuria during bevacizumab plus pembrolizumab treatment, which should alert the clinicians in case of bleeding adverse events onset in older patients under bevacizumab plus pembrolizumab therapy.

Abstract Objective Poly ADP‐ribose polymerase inhibitors (PARPis) have significantly improved clinical effects in gynecological oncology. However, PARPis could also induce severe organ system toxicities, including the hematological system. Our study aimed to extensively characterize the hematological toxicities of PARPis based on the real‐world data. Methods Disproportionality analysis was used to evaluate the association between PARPis and hematotoxicity adverse events. Data were extracted from the US FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database between January 2015 and September 2021. The characteristics of PARPi‐associated hematological toxicities, and the onset time and fatality proportion were further analyzed. Results Out of 24,045 adverse events reports, 4088 hematotoxicity reports (17.00%) were analyzed, with a median age of 64.95 (interquartile range [IQR] 51–71) years. All PARPis were detected with positive safety signals of hematological toxicities in four detection methods. Unexpected significant adverse events such as lymphadenopathy, lymphoedema, and metastases to lymph nodes might also occur. The median time‐to‐onset was 28 (IQR 10–101) days and the fatality proportion of hematological toxicities with PARPis was 8.76%, with a statistical difference in different PARPis. Conclusion Hematological toxicities caused by PARPis preferred to occur early and might result in serious outcomes. Early identification and response to the PARPi‐related hematological toxicities were important and further basic research were needed to confirm the mechanism of results in this study.

Abstract With the interconnection of regional grids and the increasing penetration of renewable energy, the order of the power system model is getting higher and higher, which brings great challenges to the accuracy and real‐time performance of electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation. The simulation of power systems with a high proportion of renewable energy requires a sharp increase in the performance of the hardware platform and the parallelism of the simulation algorithm. To solve this problem, the paper proposes a fine‐grained parallel modelling method for power systems with a high proportion of renewable energy, which is inspired by the latency insertion method used in the design of large‐scale integrated circuits. And this method is implemented on GPU to achieve the component‐level and device‐level parallelized simulation of power systems with a high proportion of renewable energy. Finally, the correctness of the proposed algorithm and the CPU‐GPU cooperative architecture is verified based on an improved 118‐bus case. The cascade system of the improved 9‐bus case is used as an example to verify the superiority of the proposed algorithm in terms of simulation efficiency.

Abstract The associated discrete circuit (ADC) model for switches is widely used in electromagnetic transient simulation of power electronic system. When using ADC model, the problem of virtual power loss caused by L/C switching cannot be ignored and small time‐step (≤2 μs) is usually required to guarantee accuracy, both of which will limit the application of ADC model. To cope with this, a fractional time‐step simulation method (FTSSM) suitable for the ADC model of power electronic system is proposed. The method is derived from the compact form of electro‐magnetic transient program (EMTP) algorithm, and the simulation iteration is implemented by small‐step synthesis calculation with different fractional time‐steps, which are designed to locate the accurate switching actions. In this way, the simulation can be conducted under larger time‐step (to tens of μs) while the accuracy is still acceptable. Further analysis on time domain error and numerical stability of the FTSSM are discussed. Simulations of grid‐connected inverter system and permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) driving system are done, using FTSSM and on PSCAD respectively for comparison. The results verify the accuracy of proposed FTSSM, and indicate that the FTSSM is helpful to accelerate the offline simulation and improve the real‐time simulation performance.

High-pressure torsion (HPT) processing currently receives much attention mainly because it can significantly improve the strength of alloys compare to other sever plastic deformation. However, a common problem for these HPT processed alloys is that they suffer from low plasticity. Here we proposed an optimized post-aging treatment that achieves HPT processed 6016 alloy with tensile elongation as large as ∼36% and ultimate tensile strength over 500 MPa. Through systematically comparing the effects of high and low temperature aging treatments on the microstructure and properties of alloys, it was found that low-temperature long-time aging treatment can make HPT processed 6016 alloy exhibit higher plasticity while maintaining higher strength. The higher strength mainly originates from finer grains and higher strengthening effect of L precipitates, while the higher plasticity is attributed to the formation of nanoscale Si particles with smaller size and distributed in the grain interior after low-temperature long-time aging treatment. In addition, thermo-kinetic calculation demonstrates that the low-temperature long-time aging treatment provides higher thermodynamic driving force, higher kinetic activation energy and higher generalized stability for L phase precipitation, which is conducive to achieve a good strength–plasticity combination of HPT processed alloys.

Different oleanolic acid (OA) oxime ester derivatives (3a-3t) were designed and synthesised to develop inhibitors against α-glucosidase and α-amylase. All the synthesised OA derivatives were evaluated against α-glucosidase and α-amylase in vitro. Among them, compound 3a showed the highest α-glucosidase inhibition with an IC50 of 0.35 µM, which was ∼1900 times stronger than that of acarbose, meanwhile compound 3f exhibited the highest α-amylase inhibitory with an IC50 of 3.80 µM that was ∼26 times higher than that of acarbose. The inhibition kinetic studies showed that the inhibitory mechanism of compounds 3a and 3f were reversible and mixed types towards α-glucosidase and α-amylase, respectively. Molecular docking studies analysed the interaction between compound and two enzymes, respectively. Furthermore, cytotoxicity evaluation assay demonstrated a high level of safety profile of compounds 3a and 3f against 3T3-L1 and HepG2 cells.Highlights Oleanolic acid oxime ester derivatives (3a–3t) were synthesised and screened against α-glucosidase and α-amylase. Compound 3a showed the highest α-glucosidase inhibitory with IC50 of 0.35 µM. Compound 3f presented the highest α-amylase inhibitory with IC50 of 3.80 µM. Kinetic studies and in silico studies analysed the binding between compounds and α-glucosidase or α-amylase.

Metal–organic gels (MOG) as new types of soft materials have shown promising applications in various fields such as chemosensors, environmental remediation, and gas adsorption/separation, owing to their high porosity, low density, and high surface area. However, the application of MOG materials in energy electrocatalysis and the active components made from them are rarely perceived. Herein, a new electrochemistry‐driven reconstruction strategy to synthesize the NiOOH/FeOOH heterostructure from MOG materials is reported. The reconstructed NiOOH/FeOOH exhibits superior oxygen evolution reaction activity and excellent stability, owing to the synergistic effect of bimetallic centers, the abundant interface between NiOOH and FeOOH, and the plentiful defects. Impressively, the activated Re–FeNi–MOG‐4 electrocatalyst displays remarkable catalytic activity with a low overpotential of 220 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 and a small Tafel slope of 48 mV dec−1 in alkaline electrolyte, outperforming most recently reported electrocatalysts. Herein, a facile and effective electrochemical reconstruction engineering of pre‐catalysts is provided and the evolution of self‐reconstruction of MOG materials for accelerating the kinetics of the electrocatalytic process is highlighted.

Abstract The vascularization of dermal substitutes is a key challenge in efforts to heal deep skin defects. In this study, dual gene‐activated dermal scaffolds (DGADSs‐1) were fabricated by loading nanocomposite particles of polyethylenimine (PEI)/multiple plasmid DNAs (pDNAs) encoding vascular endothelial growth factor and angiopoietin‐1 at a ratio of 1:1. In a similar manner, DGADSs‐2 were loaded with a chimeric plasmid encoding both VEGF and Ang‐1. In vitro studies showed that both types of DGADSs released PEI/pDNA nanoparticles in a sustained manner; they demonstrated effective transfection ability, leading to upregulated expression of VEGF and Ang‐1. Furthermore, both types of DGADSs promoted fibroblast proliferation and blood vessel formation, although DGADSs‐1 showed a more obvious promotion effect. A rat full‐thickness skin defect model showed that split‐thickness skin transplanted using a one‐step method could achieve full survival at the 12th day after surgery in both DGADSs‐1 and DGADSs‐2 groups, and the vascularization time of dermal substitutes was significantly shortened. Compared with the other three groups of scaffolds, the DGADSs‐1 group had significantly greater cell infiltration, collagen deposition, neovascularization, and vascular maturation, all of which promoted wound healing. Thus, compared with single‐gene‐activated dermal scaffolds, DGADSs show greater potential for enhancing angiogenesis. DGADSs with different loading modes also exhibited differences in terms of angiogenesis; the effect of loading two genes (DGADSs‐1) was better than the effect of loading a chimeric gene (DGADSs‐2). In summary, DGADSs, which continuously upregulate VEGF and Ang‐1 expression, offer a new functional tissue‐engineered dermal substitute with the ability to activate vascularization.

Three-dimensional flexible piezoresistive porous sensors are of interest in health diagnosis and wearable devices. In this study, conductive porous sensors with complex triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) structures were fabricated using the 3D printed sacrificial mold and enhancement of MWCNTs. A new curing routine by the self-resistance electric heating was implemented. The porous sensors were designed with different pore sizes and unit cell types of the TPMS (Diamond (D), Gyroid (G), and I-WP (I)). The impact of pore characteristics and the hybrid fabrication technique on the compressive properties and piezoresistive response of the developed porous sensors was studied. The results indicate that the porous sensors cured by the self-resistance electric heating could render a uniform temperature distribution in the composites and reduce the voids in the walls, exhibiting a higher elastic modulus and a better piezoresistive response. Among these specimens, the specimen with the D-based structure cured by self-resistance electric heating showed the highest responsive strain (61%), with a corresponding resistance response value of 0.97, which increased by 10.26% compared to the specimen heated by the external heat sources. This study provides a new perspective on design and fabrication of porous materials with piezoresistive functionalities, particularly in the realm of flexible and portable piezoresistive sensors.

Tumor vaccines aim to activate dormant or unresponsive tumor-specific T lymphocytes by using tumor-specific or tumor-associated antigens, thus enhancing the body’s natural defense against cancer. However, the effectiveness of tumor vaccines is limited by the presence of tumor heterogeneity, low immunogenicity, and immune evasion mechanisms. Fortunately, multifunctional nanoparticles offer a unique chance to address these issues. With the advantages of their small size, high stability, efficient drug delivery, and controlled surface chemistry, nanomaterials can precisely target tumor sites, improve the delivery of tumor antigens and immune adjuvants, reshape the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment, and enhance the body’s anti-tumor immune response, resulting in improved efficacy and reduced side effects. Nanovaccine, a type of vaccine that uses nanotechnology to deliver antigens and adjuvants to immune cells, has emerged as a promising strategy for cancer immunotherapy due to its ability to stimulate immune responses and induce tumor-specific immunity. In this review, we discussed the compositions and types of nanovaccine, and the mechanisms behind their anti-tumor effects based on the latest research. We hope that this will provide a more scientific basis for designing tumor vaccines and enhancing the effectiveness of tumor immunotherapy.

The joint assembly of evergreen and deciduous tree species, typical karst vegetation of evergreen and deciduous broad-leaved mixed forests through respective subcommunities, play an important role in maintaining biodiversity in subtropical karst regions, and leaf functional traits can strategically specify plant resource utilization. However, it is unclear how these assembled subcommunities of evergreen and deciduous species maintain differentiation strategies. This study surveyed 53 forest plots of 20 m × 20 m dividing 212 adjacent lattices in a typical karst forest. Leaf traits of woody plants were measured regarding the specific leaf area (SLA), leaf dry matter content (LDMC), leaf tissue density (ltd), and leaf C, N, and P contents. The differences between deciduous and evergreen subcommunities were compared using the community-weighted means (CWM). The SLA and LDMC of the deciduous subcommunity were greater than the evergreen subcommunity; meanwhile, the leaf C, C/N and C/P ratios of the evergreen subcommunity were significantly higher than those of the deciduous subcommunity. However, the leaf N, P and N/P ratios of the deciduous subcommunity were significantly enhanced than the evergreen subcommunity. Moreover, both subcommunities showed significant negative correlations between SLA, leaf N and ltd, LDMC, signifying a trade-off of leaf-economic trait in deciduous and evergreen subcommunities. Furthermore, principal component analysis (PCA) on leaf functional traits specified the strategic differentiation mainly located at the side of the resource acquisition with high SLA and leaf N content for the deciduous subcommunity and situated at the side of the resource conservation with high LDMC and ltd for the evergreen subcommunity. In conclusion, the trade-off correlated with leaf functional trait differentiation suggested a resource acquisition strategy for the deciduous subcommunity and a resource conservation strategy for the evergreen subcommunity in the subtropical climate-dominating mixed forest of karst ecosystem.

Study region: Jiemayangzong Glacier basin, source of the Yarlung Zangbo, Tibetan Plateau. Study focus: Mountain groundwater is an important water source to recharge rivers. However, there is still a lack of a suitable “climate-glacier-groundwater” modeling framework to project future changes of glacier and the consequent impacts on evolution of groundwater in the Tibetan Plateau (TP). The groundwater model HydroGeoSphere (HGS) is coupled with the glacier retreat method Δh - parameterization to simulate subglacial meltwater recharge to groundwater (SMRG), precipitation recharge to groundwater (PRG), and total groundwater recharge (TGR) in the Jiemayangzong Glacier basin, source of the Yarlung Zangbo. New hydrological insights for the region: Results show that the volume of the Jiemayangzong Glacier would continuously retreat from 2021 to 2100. For the SSP126 and SSP585 climate change scenarios, the glacier volume would maximum decrease to 26.1% and 14.7% in 2100 (reference ∼ 2021), respectively. The simulated rate of annual SMRG is 24 mm/yr, which accounts for 63% of TGR. SMRG and TGR would decrease to 26% and 73% in 2100 under SSP585 climate change scenarios. Although PRG would continuously increase to 151% for SSP585 in 2100, it could not counteract the loss of SMRG. The change in hydraulic head is significant in the glacier terminus and the aquifer shallow zones (elevation above 4000 m). Glacier retreat results from increasing temperature will seriously affect local groundwater resources, particularly for the SSP585 scenario.

Rhodospirillum rubrum water treatment technology could recycle bio-resource. However, the inability to degrade macromolecular organics limited its wide application. This paper discussed the feasibility of small molecular carbon source promoting R. rubrum directly treating dairy machining wastewater (DMW) and accumulations for single cell protein and pigment, and establishment of a mathematical model. Six small molecules promoted the degradation of macromolecules (proteins) in DMW. They promoted protease secretion and non-growth matrix (protein) decomposition in DMW through co-metabolism. Among the molecules, 550 mg/L potassium sodium tartrate was the best, protease activity and protein removal rate were increased by 100% compared with control. Then chemical oxygen demand (COD) and protein removal rates reached 80%, the single cell protein, carotenoid and bacterial chlorophyll yields were increased 2 times. Meanwhile, carbon nitrogen ratio (C/N) and food microbial ratio (F/M) were identified as the most important factors by principal component analysis. A multivariate nonlinear equation model between COD removal rate and C/N, F/M, time was established. Vehicle travel time information is an essential location-based services that can be used to assess highway traffic conditions and provide valuable insights for transit agencies and travelers. To reveal the spatial variation in vehicle travel time with multiple factors, a multiple regression model and a geographically weighted regression model are used to investigate the associations between travel time and various factors. This study draws on freeway toll data in combination with local weather station records on Fridays over 12 months (286, 406 travel information data points), and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), China, is used as a case study for examining the influence of weather and driver travel frequency on vehicle travel time. The results show that i) travel frequency along an origin-destination (OD) route has a significant effect on travel time, and this effect is approximately 3 to 100 times that of other explanatory variables; ii) rainfall significantly impacts travel time, with an effect that is 1.9 to 8.26 times that of other weather factors; and iii) both weather and driver travel frequency factors display spatial heterogeneity. These findings provide valuable insights for both traffic management and freeway travelers.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignant tumor with poor prognosis and high mortality. In this study, we demonstrated a novel vaccine targeting HCC and tumor neovascular endothelial cells by fusing recombinant MHCC97H cells expressing porcine α-1,3-galactose epitopes (αGal) and endorphin extracellular domains (END) with dendritic cells (DCs) from healthy volunteers. END+/Gal+-MHCC97H/DC fusion cells induced cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and secretion of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ). CTLs targeted cells expressing αGal and END and tumor angiogenesis. The fused cell vaccine can effectively inhibit tumor growth and prolong the survival time of human hepatoma mice, indicating the high clinical potential of this new cell based vaccine.

Abstract Ferroptosis is a type of cell death that depends on iron and reactive oxygen species (ROS). The accumulation of iron and lipid peroxidation primarily initiates oxidative membrane damage during ferroptosis. The core molecular mechanism of ferroptosis includes the regulation of oxidation and the balance between damage and antioxidant defense. Tumor cells usually contain a large amount of H2O2, and ferrous/iron ions will react with excessive H2O2 in cells to produce hydroxyl radicals and induce ferroptosis in tumor cells. Here, we reviewed the latest studies on the regulation of ferroptosis in tumor cells and introduced the tumor-related signaling pathways of ferroptosis. We paid particular attention to the role of noncoding RNA, nanomaterials, the role of drugs, and targeted treatment using ferroptosis drugs for mediating the ferroptosis process in tumor cells. Finally, we discussed the currently unresolved problems and future research directions for ferroptosis in tumor cells and the prospects of this emerging field. Therefore, we have attempted to provide a reference for further understanding of the pathogenesis of ferroptosis and proposed new targets for cancer treatment.

Abstract Neuropeptides and neuropeptide receptors are crucial regulators to insect physiological processes. The 21.0 Gb bases were obtained from Illumina sequencing of two libraries representing the female and male heads of Phauda flammans (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Phaudidae), which is a diurnal defoliator of ficus plants and usually outbreaks in the south and south-east Asia, to identify differentially expressed genes, neuropeptides and neuropeptide receptor whose tissue expressions were also evaluated. In total, 99,386 unigenes were obtained, in which 156 up-regulated and 61 down-regulated genes were detected. Fifteen neuropeptides (i.e., F1b, Ast, NP1, IMF, Y, BbA1, CAP2b, NPLP1, SIF, CCH2, NP28, NP3, PDP3, ARF2 and SNPF) and 66 neuropeptide receptor genes (e.g., A2-1, FRL2, A32-1, A32-2, FRL3, etc.) were identified and well-clustered with other lepidopteron. This is the first sequencing, identification neuropeptides and neuropeptide receptor genes from P. flammans which provides valuable information regarding the molecular basis of P. flammans.

Traditional tumor treatments have the drawback of harming both tumor cells and normal cells, leading to significant systemic toxic side effects. As a result, there is a pressing need for targeted drug delivery methods that can specifically target cells or tissues. Currently, researchers have made significant progress in developing targeted drug delivery systems for tumor therapy using various targeting ligands. This review aims to summarize recent advancements in targeted drug delivery systems for tumor therapy, focusing on different targeting ligands such as folic acid, carbohydrates, peptides, aptamers, and antibodies. The review also discusses the advantages, challenges, and future prospects of these targeted drug delivery systems.

Melioidosis, a severe tropical illness caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei, poses significant treatment challenges due to limited therapeutic options and the absence of effective vaccines. The pathogen’s intrinsic resistance to numerous antibiotics and propensity to induce sepsis during acute infections further complicate management strategies. Thus, exploring alternative methods for prevention and treatment is crucial. Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) have emerged as a promising strategy for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. This study focused on generating three mAbs (13F1, 14G11, and 15D9) targeting hemolysin-coregulated protein 1 (Hcp1), a protein involved in the type VI secretion system cluster 1 (T6SS1) of B. pseudomallei. Notably, pretreatment with 13F1 mAb significantly reduced the intracellular survival of B. pseudomallei and inhibited the formation of macrophage-derived multinucleated giant cells (MNGCs). This protective effect was also observed in vivo. We identified a sequence of amino acids (Asp95-Leu114) within Hcp1 as the likely binding site for 13F1 mAb. In summary, our findings reveal that 13F1 mAb counteracts infection by targeting Hcp1, offering potential new targets and insights for melioidosis prevention.

Abstract Direct conversion of low‐grade heat into electricity by thermal electrochemical cells is a promising strategy for energy generation. For stable heat‐to‐electricity conversion, maintaining a low‐grade heat induced temperature difference between the cell electrodes is essential. Here, a thermogalvanic cell consisting of a cellulose fiber‐based porous aerogel, a liquid electrolyte, a reduced graphene oxide light absorber, and carbon nanotube‐based electrodes is designed for low‐grade thermal energy harvesting and conversion. The low thermal conductivity of the porous cellulose aerogel enables limited heat transfer from the hot side to the cold side, and thermal energy management effectively reduces heat loss from the hot side to the environment. Thus, a sustainable temperature difference between the electrodes is maintained and a corresponding maximum power output of 6.94 mW m−2 is achieved under natural solar irradiation. The obtained thermal electrochemical cells are also integrated into an enclosed interfacial solar evaporation device to harvest the latent heat released from vapor condensation for electricity generation. In addition, the thermal electrochemical cells can be regenerated after 18 months of storage and show no performance degradation. This design thus offers a novel alternative strategy for practical low‐grade heat harvesting.
