In this research all the data sets were gathered during the COVID-19 outbreak. The study presented, however, is applicable to any pandemic scenario in Bangladesh or elsewhere. The lockdown has significantly reduced the demand for power worldwide and altered the makeup of the load and the daily load profile. This is because many offices have switched to home office strategy, which has shortened the operating schedule of many businesses. Considering this, many countries' adoption of lockdown measures to halt the spread of COVID-19 abruptly changed socioeconomic operations, including the power generation industries.  To better understand the pandemic's impact on Bangladesh's fossil-fuel based power sector, this study examines renewable energy technologies' roles in creating climate resilient, sustainable energy routes. Research was done for the pandemic lockdown in 2020. Due to the lockdown situation, the power sector witnessed increased overcapacity, and revenue losses. This study looked at the implications on energy demand, load profiles, generation, consumption, generating mix, and expansion of renewable electricity generation. In addition, a suitable generation mix for Bangladesh has been suggested. This sector's resilience has also been assessed to overcome the pandemic crisis and any future pandemic-like emergency. In this research, a well-organized examination of the existing power sector overall plan has also been proposed, focusing on clean energy led power sector development.

The aim of this study is to investigate the long-term planning of the Italian power sector from 2021 to 2050. The key role of photovoltaic and wind technologies in combination with power-to-power systems based on hydrogen and batteries is investigated. An updated version of the OSeMOSYS tool is used, which employs a clustering method for the representation of time-varying input data. First, the potential of variable renewable energy sources (VRES) is assessed. A sensitivity analysis is also performed on the temporal resolution of the model to determine an adequate trade-off between the computation time and the accuracy of the results. Then, a techno-economic optimization scenario is carried out, resulting in a total net present cost of about 233.7 B€. A high penetration of VRES technologies is foreseen by 2050 with a total VRES installed capacity of 272.9 GW (mainly photovoltaic and onshore wind). Batteries are found to be the preferable energy storage solution in the first part of the energy transition, while the hydrogen storage starts to be convenient from about the year 2040. Indeed, the role of hydrogen storage becomes fundamental as the VRES penetration increases thanks to its cost-effective long-term storage capability. By 2050, 74.6 % of electricity generation will be based on VRES, which will also enable a significant reduction in CO2 emissions of about 87 %.

The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) proposed regulations of power plant carbon emissions under Section 111 of the Clean Air Act, which were proposed in May of 2023, raise a number of concerns. The proposed regulations target a transition in the U.S. power sector towards clean energy, relying heavily on Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) and green hydrogen technologies to achieve nearly net zero carbon emissions from existing fossil fuel power plants. These technologies, however, do not seem to satisfy the Section 111 requirement that the Best System of Emissions Reduction (BSER) be adequately demonstrated at the scale and for the purposes envisioned by the EPA. The critique highlights a discrepancy between the EPA's proposed New Source Performance Standards and the statutory requirement that the BSER must be technically feasible and cost-effective. Concerns are raised about the potential for these regulations to unconstitutionally coerce state governments and to neglect the economic implications, including the potential rise in electricity costs and the environmental impact of shifting away from coal and natural gas. Additionally, the critique questions the EPA's interpretation of Section 111 as it may extend the agency's authority to significantly alter the American economy in the pursuit of addressing climate change. The warning is of a "disorderly transition" that might compromise the reliability and affordability of electricity supply, undermining efforts towards a sustainable low-carbon power sector transition.

Purpose – The purpose of this thesis is twofold: first to understand the various sustainable values open data (OD) can create, and second is to maximize the sustainable values created through a process a firm can follow. Method – For this study, I used a single case study design on a Swedish firm within the power sector with an inductive and exploratory approach. Data has been collected in three waves with respondents in different roles having different experiences with OD. First five exploratory interviews, then nine semi-structured interviews to gain depth. At last, to validate the study’s findings I conducted an online seminar with six respondents. To analyze these interviews, the method of thematic analysis was utilized. Findings – The results indicate there are four dimensions of value, Economic, Social, Environmental, and Internal. In total, there are 11 first order codes describing which values can be expected when working with OD. Regarding the process the respondents emphasize on three dimensions: Preparation and pre-study, Implementation, and Usage and restrictions, each with two business practices related to them. Within these business practices a total of 14 activities has been identified to help implement an OD initiative within an organization. Theoretical contribution – This study contributes to the OD literature by highlighting different types of sustainable values connected to working with OD, and a process to do so. This study also contributes to the sustainable value creation literature by highlighting how sustainable value creation can be maximized through OD. At last, a framework has been devised to interlink all findings for a comprehensive understanding. Practical implications – This study provides both managers and employees with guidance into how an OD initiative can be implemented and how it positively can affect their organization leading them to creating sustainable values. The focal point being organizations who are not obliged to share, Syfte – Syftet med denna uppsats är tvåfaldigt: dels att förstå de olika hållbara värden som öppna data (ÖD) kan skapa, dels att maximera de hållbara värden som skapas genom en process som företag kan följa. Metod – För denna studie använde jag mig av en enfallsstudie på ett svenskt företag inom kraftsektorn med en induktiv och explorativ ansats. Data har samlats in i tre faser med respondenter som har olika roller och erfarenheter. Först genomfördes fem explorativa intervjuer, sedan nio semistrukturerade intervjuer och slutligen, för att validera studiens resultat, genomförde jag ett online-seminarium med sex respondenter. För att analysera dessa intervjuer användes tematisk analys. Resultat – Resultaten indikerar att det finns fyra dimensioner av värde, ekonomisk, social, miljömässig och intern. Totalt finns det 11 första orderns koder vilka beskriver värden som kan förväntas när man arbetar med ÖD. När det gäller processen betonar respondenterna tre dimensioner: Förberedelse och förstudie, Implementering samt Användning och restriktioner, var och en med två affärsmetoder relaterade till dem. Inom dessa affärsmetoder har 14 aktiviteter identifierats hjälpsamma för att implementera ett ÖD-initiativ inom en organisation. Teoretiskt bidrag – Denna studie bidrar till ÖD litteraturen genom att belysa olika typer av hållbara värden kopplade till att arbeta med ÖD, och en process för att realisera detta initiativ och fånga dessa värden. Denna studie bidrar även till litteraturen om hållbart värdeskapande genom att belysa hur hållbart värdeskapande kan maximeras genom ÖD. Slutligen har ett ramverk utarbetats för att koppla samman alla resultat för en heltäckande förståelse. Praktiska implikationer – Denna studie ger både chefer och medarbetare vägledning i hur ett OD-initiativ kan implementeras och hur det positivt kan påverka deras organisation och leda dem till att skapa hållbara värden. Global efforts to transition away from coal within a decade encounter significant challenges, particularly in developing and coal-producing countries, e.g. Indonesia. Most current studies do not discuss the impact of coal phase-out on the upstream sector, which is important for coal-producing countries. This study aims to analyse Indonesia's power sector decarbonisation impact on the power and fossil upstream sectors. This analysis used VEDA-TIMES energy system optimisation using three scenarios: least-cost system (BAU), decarbonisation without coal phase-out (PA 1.5), and decarbonisation with coal phase-out (PA 1.5 PO). In all cases, decarbonisation will reduce the amount of coal used in energy systems. However, in a technology-agnostic transition, coal still constitutes 16% of total capacity in 2060. By this time, the coal-fired power generating assets have also transitioned to high efficiency, low emissions (HELE) technologies. CCS plays an important role in Indonesia's decarbonisation. A key implication of the coal phase-out scenario is the stranding of $9 bn worth of existing assets and an increased role for renewable energy and imported natural gas in 2035–2050, posing a notable threat to gas security within the industrial sector. In addition, the potential loss due to untapped coal reserves is estimated at $63 bn, while the cumulative net loss in the coal upstream sector amounts to $799 bn (0.26% of Indonesia's GDP and 3.7% of the coal-producing GDRP). Nevertheless, the total investment and electricity production costs exhibit negligible differences in the rapid VRE expansion, but it will reduce total investment by 24% in the low VRE buildrate.
