In this study, the diversity of Pyxine Fr. in China was assessed based on morphological and chemical traits and molecular data are inferred from ITS and mtSSU sequences. Nineteen species were recognised, including three that are new to science (i.e. P.flavicans M. X. Yang & Li S. Wang, P.hengduanensis M. X. Yang & Li S. Wang and P.yunnanensis M. X. Yang & Li S. Wang) and three records new to China were found (i.e. P.cognata Stirt., P.himalayensis Awas. and P.minuta Vain.). Pyxineyunnanensis is diagnosed by the small size of the apothecia, a white medulla of the stipe and the presence of lichexanthone. Pyxineflavicans is characterised by broad lobes, a pale yellow medulla of the stipe and the presence of atranorin. Pyxinehengduanensis can be distinguished by its pale yellow medulla, marginal labriform soralia and the absence of atranorin. Detailed descriptions of each new species are presented, along with a key to the known species of Pyxine in China.

Amandinea lobarica, a new corticolous lichen species, is described from high elevations in Guatemala. It is characterized by a thin, granulose, brownish thallus containing lobaric acid, small, convex lecideine apothecia, filiform conidia and large, narrowly ellipsoid ascospores with roughly ornamented walls. The new species is compared with other Buellia s. lat. taxa that possess rather large and strongly ornamented ascospores, such as Buellia hypothallina, here placed in synonymy with Gassicurtia vaccinii, Amandinea leucomela, A. mediospora, A. megaspora, A. subduplicata and five very closely related taxa treated here as belonging to the Amandinea incrustans group. Two tables summarizing the main differences between these species and a key are provided. New data on the chemistry of A. leucomela and a new record of A. montana for Guatemala are also included. The aim of this study was to evaluate the optimum conditions for culturing Anaptychia ciliaris mycobionts in vitro and analyzing their ontogenetic development while in culture. After the testing of two germination and four development media, results of germination and growth were evaluated. We here recommend the use of basal medium without additional carbon source for germination process. Mycobiont growth was possible in all organic media tested. Lichen diversity of crustose Caliciaceae and Physciaceae from Alentejo, the Azores and Madeira (Portugal) including the new Amandinea madeirensis. – Herzogia 33: 420 – 431.Examination of crustose Caliciaceae and Physciaceae from Portugal (Alentejo, Madeira and the Azores) revealed the new corticolous species, Amandinea madeirensis, characterized by 16-spored asci and small Physconia-type ascospores. The new species is compared with the other known corticolous species of Buellia s. lat. with polyspored asci and a key to these species is provided. Additional information is given for a further 49 species, of which Amandinea polyspora, Rinodina teichophila and the lichenicolous fungus Wernerella maheui are new records for Portugal. The following are new records for the regions studied: Buellia mediterranea and B. caloplacivora are new to the Azores, Buellia uberiuscula and Rinodina guzzinii are new to Madeira, while most records from Alentejo are new for the province. An additional record of the rare species Buellia indissimilis, hitherto known only from two localities (including the type) in northern Portugal, is included.

Consequently, we reinstate Pronectria leptaleae and describe Pronectria etayoi, Xenonectriella physciacearum and X. zimmermanni as new species. The new combination Xenonectriella angulospora is proposed. A key to the species of the genera Pronectria and Xenonectriella growing on Physciaceae in Europe is provided.

Turkonalassus mavi M. Nabozhenko & B. Keskin, sp. n. and Odocnemis rufocruralis M. Nabozhenko & B. Keskin, sp. n., two distinctive darkling beetle species of the tribe Helopini, are described from the Southeastern Anatolia region of Turkey, based on both their external morphology and genital structures. Turkonalassus mavi sp. n. differs from all congeners by the bluish dorsal surface of the body, the pronotum widest before middle, and wide merged baculi of the median lobe of the aedeagus. Odocnemis rufocruralis sp. n. belongs to the praelonga species-group. Odocnemis rufocruralis sp. n. is similar to O. torosica Nabozhenko & Keskin, 2016, O. terminassianae (Nabozhenko, 2011) and O. kakunini Nabozhenko & Keskin, 2016 but differs from all three taxa by the reddish-brown body with red legs, male apical maxillary palpomere wider than in female, elevate and narrowly separate male protrochanters, and the structure of the very long and narrow apical piece of the aedeagus. New data on distribution, bionomics, and trophic relations of several species of Helopini from Turkey are given. Host lichens are determined for nine species. The majority of studied adult beetles feed on lichens from the families Physciaceae and Parmeliaceae. Some examined taxa feed on Cladoniaceae. Feeding on crustose lichens is registered for the first time for Coleoptera, specifically Odocnemis rufocruralis sp. n. was observed to feed on Pertusaria sp. Belguidoum A, Lograda T, Ramdani M. 2021. Diversity and distribution of epiphytic lichens on Cedrus atlantica and Quercus faginea in Mount Babor Forest, Algeria. Biodiversitas 22: 887-899. Information about lichen diversity in Algeria is limited despite their important role as biological indicators of ecosystem health. The aim of the study was to carry out an inventory of epiphytic lichens in the Mount Babor Forest on two types of phorophytes (host trees), i.e., Cedrus atlantica and Quercus faginea, in varying altitudinal gradients and the diameter of host tree. The similarity of the sampled sites was assessed by the Sorensen index (β). Sixty-six species of epiphytic lichens were identified, which belong to 24 families and 38 genera. C. atlantica hosted a higher number of species than Q. faginea. The majority of lichen on C. atlantica belonged to the Parmeliaceae family, whereas those on Q. faginea belonged to the Physciaceae family. Crustose and foliose lichens were the most common species in the study area. The results showed the existence of a distinct relationship between the parameters of the distribution (i.e., tree diameter, elevation) and the specific lichen richness. The greatest number of lichen species (59 species) was observed on large diameter trunks (41-60 cm). Lichen diversity increased along with the increase in altitude. Sorensen’s similarity index revealed the presence of heterogeneity in the community composition of lichen vegetation.

Lichens are important in many modern terrestrial ecosystems, but their fossil record has been very sparse. This has limited the chances for finding any evidence of their interactions with animals in past ecosystems. Recently, the fossil record of lichens has improved significantly with the discovery of numerous new inclusions from European Palaeogene ambers. Here, we report the first fossil evidence of animal–lichen interactions from one new fossil from Bitterfeld amber of central Germany. A foliose fossil lichen, possibly belonging to the Physciaceae, exhibits three feeding marks and co-preserved invertebrate faecal pellets. To gain insights into this Palaeogene lichen-invertebrate interaction, we compared the fossil grazing damage and faecal pellets to those obtained from several extant lichen feeders, including mites, collembolans, psocopterans, coleopteran larvae and gastropods. The results of the grazing experiments suggest that gastropods and mites most likely caused the feeding marks preserved in the fossil lichen. • We report the first fossil evidence of animal–lichen interactions. • Bitterfeld amber preserved a lichen with feeding marks and invertebrate frass. • We performed comparative experiments with extant lichen feeders. • Gastropods and mites most likely caused the fossil feeding marks. A world key is given to the species of Pyxine with lichexanthone in the upper cortex. Pyxine pustulata Aptroot & Jungbluth is described as a new corticolous species of Pyxine from São Paulo State in Brazil, with lichexanthone in the cortex, upper surface K−, a yellow to ochraceous medulla and clusters of laminal polysidiangia. Two hundred and seven lichen species are newly reported from Sri Lanka, eight of which were previously thought to be endemic in India; 91 species are new to the Indian subcontinent, and four to Asia, and three are described here as new to science: Astrothelium nitidulum which has 7-septate ascospores with diamond-shaped lumina, mostly simple ascomata in shiny olive pseudostromata and an inspersed hamathecium; Heterodermia queensberryi which is similar to Heterodermia propagulifera but with a corona of lobules around the apothecia; and Malmidea papulosa, which is similar to Malmidea granifera but has regular warts and lacks medulla in the excipulum. Hyperphyscia lucida is described as a new lichen species from the Netherlands on morphological grounds. It most closely resembles H. adglutinata, but differs by a whiter grey thallus, confluent or laterally imbricate, mostly flat and closely appressed, shiny lobes, a transparent prothallus, and groups of laminal pustules that develop into finely granular to coarsely isidioid soredia. Hyperphyscia lucida was found in 2020 in an area of approximately 1 km2 in the freshwater tidal area the Biesbosch. Thalli were found on 14 Salix trees in the southwest of two ca 60-year-old willow forests, together with a. o. Hyperphyscia adglutinata (with apothecia), Phaeophyscia orbicularis, Xanthoria parietina and Hypnum cupressiforme. Further interesting companions include Porina byssophila, Physciella chloantha and Strangospora deplanata.

The following new species are decribed from Sri Lanka: Heterodermia rubrotricha which is similar to Heterodermia leucomela but with red, K + purple pigment on the cilia. Malmidea sanguineostigma, which is similar to Malmidea chrysostigma but has red anthraquinone in the thallus medulla, yellow xantholepinone in the excipulum medulla and smaller ascospores. Protoparmelia megalosporoides which is unique in the genus by the lecideine apothecia resembling those of Megalospora. 68. The genus Rinodina in the Kuril Islands (Russian Far East)

The presented work is based on the study of extensive material collected by Ezhkin A. K. in 2014–2018 from the islands of Kunashir, Iturup, Paramushir, and Shikotan. As a result of the study, the new list of species of the genus Rinodina for the Kuril Islands consists of 17 taxa. One species, Rinodina herrei H. Magn., is new to northeastern Asia and Russia, 14 taxa are new to the Kuril Islands. The genus Rinodina is represented by species with disjunctive distribution by 35.3 % (6 species). They are divided into two groups: East Asian – West American (R. herrei, R. megistospora) and East Asian – East North American (R. ascociscana, R. subminuta, R. tenuis and R.willeyi). East Asian species account for 17.6 % (3 species: R. hypobadia, R. subalbida and R. xanthophaea) of the known number of Rinodina species of the Kuril Islands., Представленная работа основана на исследовании обширного материала, собранного А. К. Ежкиным в 2014–2018 гг. на Курильских островах: Кунашир, Итуруп, Парамушир и Шикотан. В результате исследования новый список видов рода Rinodina для Курильских островов состоит из 17 таксонов. Один вид, Rinodina herrei H. Magn., является новым для Cеверо-Bосточной Азии и России, 14 таксонов являются новыми для Курильских островов. Род Rinodina на 35,3 % (6 видов) представлен здесь видами с дизъюнктивным распространением. espanolResumen El objetivo del estudio fue contribuir al conocimiento de la composicion y la diversidad, la especificidad de forofito y las preferencias microambientales de liquenes corticolas de un bosque subandino en la region Centro de Colombia (Ibague, Tolima). Se seleccionaron 25 individuos de cinco especies arboreas; se estimo el porcentaje de cobertura de cada especie de liquen; se determinaron los parametros del micrositio (pH de la corteza y diametro a la altura del pecho, DAP) y del microclima (temperatura, humedad y radiacion); se calculo la riqueza y la diversidad alfa y se efectuaron analisis multivariados para establecer las relaciones de forofito y liquen y de liquen y condicion ambiental. Se registraron 21 especies, agrupadas en ocho familias y 14 generos; la familia con mayor cobertura fue Arthoniaceae y la de mayor riqueza, Physciaceae; la especie mas abundante fue Bacidia spp. El forofito Trichilia pallida presento la riqueza y la diversidad mas altas, en tanto que Cecropia angustifolia fue la especie de liquen mas dominante. Las especies de liquenes presentaron preferencia por un solo forofito, excepto Leptogium diaphanum, la cual se registro en dos forofitos. Los parametros de pH, intensidad luminica, temperatura y DAP se correlacionaron positivamente con el establecimiento de los liquenes, los cuales registraron una diversidad significativa con el beneficio que ello conlleva para la conservacion y el estudio de estos ecosistemas estrategicos de la region andina colombiana. EnglishAbstract Our study aimed at contributing to the knowledge of the composition and diversity, phorophyte specificity, and microenvironmental preferences of corticolous lichens from a forest in the sub-Andean Centro region of Colombia (Ibague-Tolima). We selected 25 individuals from five tree species. We estimated the coverage percentage of each species of lichen and identified the microsite parameters (bark pH and diameter at breast height, DBH), as well as the microclimatic variables (temperature, humidity, and radiation). We estimated the richness and the alpha diversity and we applied multivariate analysis to establish the phorophyte-lichen and lichen-environmental condition relationships. We recorded 21 species grouped in eight families and 14 genera. Arthoniaceae was the family with the greatest coverage and Physciaceae the one with the greatest richness. The most abundant species was Bacidia spp. Trichilia pallida phorophyte had the highest richness and diversity, while Cecropia angustifolia was the most dominant species of lichen. Except Leptogium hanum, which was found in two phorophytes, the other species preferred one single phorophyte. The pH, light intensity, temperature, and DAP were positively correlated to the establishment of lichens. We registered a significant diversity that opens the way to new research useful for preserving these strategic ecosystems of the Andean region in Colombia.

The genus Heterodermia (Physciaceae, Lecanorales) in the Yaboty Biosphere Reserve(Misiones, Argentina). In this work, a study of the Heterodermia species of the Yaboty Biosphere Reserve is presented. Six species were identified, of which Heterodermia galactophylla (Tuck.) W.L. Culb. is recorded for the first time from Argentina, and the distribution range within the country is extended for other four species: Heterodermia japonica (M. Sato) Swinscow & Krog, Heterodermia aff. speciosa (Wulfen) Trevis., Heterodermia squamulosa (Degel.) W.L. Culb., and Heterodermia vulgaris (Vain.)Follmann & Redon. A dichotomous key for the species of the area and a brief description, observations and illustration of each of them are presented.

The paper presents new data on distribution of the lichen Rinodina megistospora in the Russian Far East and its revealed range in eastern Asia. R. megistospora is recorded for the first time for the Sakhalin Region (Sakhalin and Iturup islands). It has been found on the territory of Russia in eight localities in the boreal and nemoral zones of Northeast Asia. The species grows in old-growth intact coniferous and oak forests on bark of Betula sp., Kalopanax septemlobus, Picea sp., Quercus crispula and Sorbus sp. Current data suggest that R. megistospora is one of the species belonging to the Eastern Asiatic — Western North American group of species, characterized by disjunctive range. The paper presents the anatomical and morphological description of Rinodina megistospora, based on the examined specimens.

In North America, the widespread sorediate lichen known as Hyperphyscia adgiutinata is shown to be heterogeneous. It contains two distinct species, one with primarily laminal soralia and another with marginal soralia. The latter taxon is here described as the new species H. confusa. Hyperphyscia adgiutinata and H. confusa have broadly overlapping distributions in North America, especially in the Midwest and Great Plains states. Where they are sympatric, H. confusa is generally the more common of the two. Descriptions and discussions for H. adgiutinata and the two other sorediate North American species, H. minor and H. pyrithrocardia, are also included, along with a key for separation of the four species. The study of the type and additional material of Buellia andicola, B. hypophana and B. reagens has shown that these taxa are conspecific with B. thiopoliza. Buellia thiopoliza is a muscicolous species growing at middle to high altitudes in the mountains of both hemispheres. It is easily recognized by its K+ purple-red yellow pigment mainly concentrated in the hypothecium, and by the presence of xanthones in the thallus and the apothecial tissues. The new combination Tetramelas thiopolizus is proposed. A key to all known Tetramelas species is included. The study of the type specimens of Buellia sequax revealed that the current concept of this species is erroneous and instead corresponds to B. abstracta. By contrast, B. sequax s. str. is characterized by the same diagnostic characters as presently accepted for B. excelsa. Consequently, they represent one and the same taxon. Since B. sequax is the older name, B. excelsa is reduced to synonymy. Buellia lepidastroidea is also reduced to synonymy with B. sequax s. str . Buellia sequax s. str. (= B. excelsa and B. lepidastroidea) contains diploicin and atranorin, has a hymenium inspersed with oil droplets, and ascospores which develop with type-B ontogeny. This combination of characters suggests that B. sequax s. str. is closely related to the genera Diploicia and Endohyalina but B. boergesenii does not belong to this group. Decrease in lichen diversity is an important biometric tool to assess the prevailing environmental condition in an area. An attempt has been made to explore the utility of lichen diversity in the monitoring of air pollution in the city of Pauri and Srinagar, Garhwal Himalayas, Uttaranchal. Eighty five lichen species were recorded from Pauri and Srinagar (Garhwal) in June 2005. It was observed that polluted sites had very low lichen diversity, mostly dominated by members of lichen family Physciaceae. Kiyonkaleshwar area is the site with maximum lichen diversity (46 lichen taxa) located in a more or less pollution-free area of Pauri city. Two-dimensional principal components analysis plot revealed significant positive contribution of natural (unaltered) sites towards lichen biodiversity, thus affirming the utility of lichen diversity in biomonitoring studies in a wide geographical area. To test the phylogenetic position of phenotypically peculiar species in the Physciaceae we generated 47 new sequences (26 of nrITS region and 21 of mtSSU rDNA) from 19 crustose taxa of Physciaceae mainly from the genus Rinodina. Phylogenetic analysis confirmed the Buellia and Physcia groups. The analysis revealed a considerable variability of characters traditionally used for classification, especially in the delimitation of the genera Buellia and Rinodina. While ascus types agree well with the distinction of the Buellia and Physcia groups, none of the other traditional characters, including excipulum type and ascospore thickening, were consistent within subclades of the Physcia group. We suggest that both excipulum type and ascospore characters are rather dynamic in the evolution of Rinodina species and only appear consistent in morphologically more complex foliose and fruticose groups, which are characterized by thallus characters not present in the crustose groups. Two recent taxonomic changes are supported by molecular characters: Endohyalina insularis (syn. 'Rinodina' insularis) and Rinodina lindingeri (syn. 'Buellia' lindingeri). In addition Rinodina parvula (syn. 'Buellia' parvula) is reinstated. New records for Endohyalina brandii, E. diederichii, E. insularis and Rinodina albana are presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, types of species in the genus Buellia described by J. Steiner are reviewed. Previously ignored holotypes of B. alboatra var. epipolioides, B. caesioatra, B. leptina, B. procellarum var. continuior, B. skutariensis f. compacta and B. skottsbergii are identified, lectotypes and isolectotypes of B. gotlandica, B. saxorum var. flavescens, B. skutariensis, B. skutariensis f. geographica and B. subtumida are designated, and the presumed holotypes of B. incrustans, B. sardiniensis, B. tergestina, B. trifracta and Diplotomma epipolium var. reagens are corrected to lectotypes. Further, the typification of B. stillingiana is reassessed. Amandinea skottsbergii (J. Steiner & Zahlbr.) Şenkard. and B. flavescens (J. Steiner) Şenkard. are proposed as new combinations. It is argued that the varieties Buellia alboatra var. epipolioides, B. procellarum var. continuior, B. subdisciformis f. compacta (=B. skutariensis f. compacta) and B. subdisciformis f. geographica (=B. skutariensis f. geographica) should no longer be recognized but regarded as synonyms of these species. Buellia leptina is regarded as a synonym of Diploicia subcanescens and B. subtumida is reduced to being a synonym of B. dispersa. Examination of Rinodina specimens from the Cape Verde Islands revealed three new species, which are described here: Rinodina capeverdeana Giralt & van den Boom, R. inspersoparietata Giralt & van den Boom and R. polymorphaespora Giralt & van den Boom. Additional information is given for six further species, of which five are new records for the archipelago. “First line” defence mechanisms, such as phytochelatin biosynthesis, and “second line” mechanisms, such as stress protein induction, were investigated in cadmium-exposed cells of Trebouxia impressa Ahmadjian, a green microalgal species that is a common photobiont of the lichen Physcia adscendens (Fr.) H. Olivier. When T. impressa cells were exposed to 0, 9 and 18μM Cd for 6, 18 and 48h, glutathione and phytochelatins efficiently protected the cells against Cd damage. By contrast, the highest Cd concentration (36μM) at the longest exposure-time (48h) caused marked drops in glutathione and phytochelatin content, several types of ultrastructural damage, and decreases in cell density and total chlorophyll concentration. In this case, induction of stress proteins was observed, but only long after the induction of phytochelatins. Thus, stress proteins could represent a “second line” mechanism to counteract Cd stress, activated when there is a decline in the “first line” mechanism of Cd detoxification given by phytochelatins. We report the draft genome sequence of the model moss Physcomitrella patens and compare its features with those of flowering plants, from which it is separated by more than 400 million years, and unicellular aquatic algae. This comparison reveals genomic changes concomitant with the evolutionary movement to land, including a general increase in gene family complexity; loss of genes associated with aquatic environments (e.g., flagellar arms); acquisition of genes for tolerating terrestrial stresses (e.g., variation in temperature and water availability); and the development of the auxin and abscisic acid signaling pathways for coordinating multicellular growth and dehydration response. The Physcomitrella genome provides a resource for phylogenetic inferences about gene function and for experimental analysis of plant processes through this plant's unique facility for reverse genetics. Abstract: A phylogenetic and taxonomic study of the Physconia distorta morphotype complex was undertaken using ITS nu-rDNA as a molecular marker to re-evaluate this group. The analysis incorporated several samples of European P. distorta and also of American and European populations, recently named as P. americana. The phylogenetic analysis revealed that P. distorta and the European population of P. americana form two monophyletic and partially sympatric species and that both are distinct from the American species P. americana. Because differences in upper cortex anatomy had been used in establishing P. americana as distinct from P. distorta, the anatomy of the upper cortex was restudied in all three of these taxa, and notable differences were revealed. Our study confirmed that the upper cortex of P. distorta is prosoplectenchymatous with thick hyphal cell walls and narrow lumina, and that American specimens of P. americana have a typical paraplectenchymatous upper cortex. The cortex anatomy of both of these looks essentially the same in both longitudinal and transverse sections. Conversely, the European specimens that have been called P. americana are different from both of these. The cells of the upper cortex are rather thin walled, and in transverse lobe sections the cortex closely resembles a paraplectenchyma. However, in longitudinal lobe sections these thin walled cells can be seen to be elongate and ramified, obviously hyphal in nature, and better meeting the criteria of a prosoplectenchyma. The results confirmed the evolutionary pattern and taxonomic assessment of the anatomy of the upper cortex in the genus Physconia and revealed a common undescribed species (P. thorstenii sp. nov.) that can be added to the North African and Southern Euro-Asiatic lichen flora. Abstract: The progeny of meiosis of eight Parmeliaceae, two Ramalinaceae and seven Physciaceae were subjected to fingerprint analysis using RAPD-PCR applied to single spore isolates. The sample set included common and widespread rarely fertile species (Parmelia sulcata, Pseudevernia furfuracea, Physcia tenella), local to common, infrequently fertile species (Melanelixia glabra, Parmelina tiliacea, Xanthoparmelia conspersa, X. stenophylla, Anaptychia runcinata, Diploicia canescen, Physconia distorta), local to rare, infrequently or regularly fertile species with declining distributions (Parmelina carporrhizans, P. quercina, Ramalina fastigiata, R. fraxinea, Anaptychia ciliaris), and local to common, regularly fertile species (Physcia aipolia, P. stellaris). All species turned out to be heterothallic, polymorphisms among RAPD markers ranging from 10–87%. The significance of these findings for population genetics and conservation biology, and potential reasons for infrequent ascoma formation in some of the species are discussed. Rinodinais a widespread, polyphyletic genus of crustosePhysciaceaewithc. 300 species worldwide. A major missing link in understanding its global biogeography has been eastern Asia where the genus has never been systematically revised. Here we review specimen and literature records forRinodinafor north-eastern Asia (Russian Far East, Japan and the Korean Peninsula) and recognize 43 species. We describe two species,R. hypobadiaandR. orientalis, as new to science.Rinodina hypobadiais distinguished by its pigmented hypothecium,Dirinaria-type ascospores and pannarin in both thallus and epihymenium.Rinodina orientalisis characterized by its erumpent apothecia that remain broadly attached, with discs sometimes becoming convex and excluding the thalline margins, ascospores belonging to thePhyscia-type and secondary metabolites absent. Nine other species are reported from the region for the first time. These includeR. dolichospora,R. freyi,R. metaboliza,R. sicula,R. subminutaandR. willeyi. Of particular biogeographical interest are three additional new records that have western North American–eastern Asian distributions: the corticolous speciesR. endospora,R. macrosporaandR. megistospora. Six species have the better known eastern North American–eastern Asian distributions:R. ascociscana(syn.R. akagiensis,R. melancholica),R. buckii,R. chrysidiata,R. subminuta,R. tenuis(syn.R. adirondackii) andR. willeyi, and two have eastern North American–eastern Asian–European distributions:R. excrescensandR. moziana(syn.R. destituta,R. vezdae). Our study begins to close one of the largest gaps in our knowledge of circumboreal species distributions inRinodinaand, together with previous studies in North America and Europe, provides new insights into circumboreal crustose lichen biogeography.Rinodina cinereovirens(syn.R. turfaceavar. cinereovirens) is also reported as new to North America.

Genera Heterodermia and Polyblastidium . Here we present a survey of the foliose lichenized fungi of Physciaceae collected in the State Park of Serra da Cantareira during end of the 1990s and currently deposited in SP Herbarium. Samples of eight species, belonging to the genera Heterodermia Trevis . (5 spp.) and Polyblastidium Kalb (3 spp.), were found and analyzed. Descriptions, comments, illustrations, and a key of the species found are presented. Heterodermia velata Marcelli & Benatti is new to science while H. isidiophora (Nyl.) D.D. Awasthi is a new citation for Brazil.
