Recent approaches for arbitrary-scale single image super-resolution (ASSR) have used local neural fields to represent continuous signals that can be sampled at arbitrary rates. However, the point-wise query of the neural field does not naturally match the point spread function (PSF) of a given pixel, which may cause aliasing in the super-resolved image. We present a novel way to design neural fields such that points can be queried with an adaptive Gaussian PSF, so as to guarantee correct anti-aliasing at any desired output resolution. We achieve this with a novel activation function derived from Fourier theory. Querying points with a Gaussian PSF, compliant with sampling theory, does not incur any additional computational cost in our framework, unlike filtering in the image domain. With its theoretically guaranteed anti-aliasing, our method sets a new state of the art for ASSR, while being more parameter-efficient than previous methods. Notably, even a minimal version of our model still outperforms previous methods in most cases, while adding 2-4 orders of magnitude fewer parameters. Altermagnetism is a subclass of antiferromagnetism that features spin-polarized electron bands of a non-relativistic origin despite the absence of a net magnetiation in the material. We here theoretically study spin pumping from an altermagnetic insulator into a normal metal. The symmetry properties of the lattice and spin order of the altermagnet alters the magnon dispersion compared to a conventional square lattice antiferromagnet. We find that for a homogeneous magnetic field, the spin pumping current is the same as that of a regular antiferromagnet. If, however the magnetic field becomes spatially dependent, we predict that the altermagnetic order leaves a unique fingerprint on the spin pumping behaviour when the orientation of the spatial modulation does not align with the high-symmetry paths of magnon degeneracy in the altermagnet. Diazo compounds are gathering interest for their potential in promoting greener synthesis routes. We investigate, at a lab-scale, the continuous synthesis of diazo acetonitrile (DAN) using a micro-structured flow reactor and a flow reaction calorimeter. Data concerning DAN formation in the former, and relative to reaction heat and gas flow rate in the latter, are collected. We present both a physical and a grey-box simulation model, both of which are calibrated to our measurements. Both models provide valuable insights into the DAN synthesis. The grey-box approach is useful to incorporate the complex chemical reaction pathways for DAN synthesis and decomposition that are currently hard to address with the physical model.

Highly precise measurements of the $^{99}$Tc beta spectrum were performed in two laboratories using metallic magnetic calorimeters. Independent sample preparations, evaluation methods and analyses yield consistent results and the spectrum could be measured down to less than 1 keV. Consistent beta spectra were also obtained via cross-evaluations of the experimental data sets. An additional independent measurement with silicon detectors in a $4\pi$ configuration confirms the spectrum shape above 25 keV. Detailed theoretical calculations were performed including nuclear structure and atomic effects. The spectrum shape was found to be sensitive to the effective value of the axial-vector coupling constant. Combining measurements and predictions, we extracted $Q_{\beta}=$295.82(16) keV and $g_A^{\text{eff}} = 1.530 (83)$. Furthermore, we derived the mean energy of the beta spectrum $\overline{E}_{\beta}$=98.45(20) keV, $\log f = -0.47660 (22)$ and $\log ft = 12.3478 (23)$., Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures, adjusted the legend symbols in figures 6-9 to the format (italics, subscripts etc.) used in the text [version 2], corrected assignment of author affiliations and capital lettering in references [version 3]

Monitoring and understanding forest dynamics is essential for environmental conservation and management. This is why the Swiss National Forest Inventory (NFI) provides countrywide vegetation height maps at a spatial resolution of 0.5 m. Its long update time of 6 years, however, limits the temporal analysis of forest dynamics. This can be improved by using spaceborne remote sensing and deep learning to generate large-scale vegetation height maps in a cost-effective way. In this paper, we present an in-depth analysis of these methods for operational application in Switzerland. We generate annual, countrywide vegetation height maps at a 10-meter ground sampling distance for the years 2017 to 2020 based on Sentinel-2 satellite imagery. In comparison to previous works, we conduct a large-scale and detailed stratified analysis against a precise Airborne Laser Scanning reference dataset. This stratified analysis reveals a close relationship between the model accuracy and the topology, especially slope and aspect. We assess the potential of deep learning-derived height maps for change detection and find that these maps can indicate changes as small as 250 $m^2$. Larger-scale changes caused by a winter storm are detected with an F1-score of 0.77. Our results demonstrate that vegetation height maps computed from satellite imagery with deep learning are a valuable, complementary, cost-effective source of evidence to increase the temporal resolution for national forest assessments.

Luminescence of open-shell 3d metal complexes is often quenched due to ultrafast intersystem crossing (ISC) and cooling into a dark metal-centered excited state. We demonstrate successful activation of fluorescence from individual nickel phthalocyanine (NiPc) molecules in the junction of a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) by resonant energy transfer from other metal phthalocyanines at low temperature. By combining STM, scanning tunneling spectroscopy, STM- induced luminescence, and photoluminescence experiments as well as time-dependent density functional theory, we provide evidence that there is an activation barrier for the ISC, which in most experimental conditions is overcome. We show that this is also the case in an electroluminescent tunnel junction where individual NiPc molecules adsorbed on an ultrathin NaCl decoupling film on a Ag(111) substrate are probed. However, when placing an MPc (M = Zn, Pd, Pt) molecule close to NiPc by means of STM atomic manipulation, resonant energy transfer can excite NiPc without overcoming the ISC activation barrier, leading to Q-band fluorescence. This work demonstrates that the thermally activated population of dark metal-centered states can be avoided by a designed local environment at low temperatures paired with a directed molecular excitation into vibrationally cold electronic states. Andreev molecules consist of two coherently coupled Josephson junctions and permit non-local control over supercurrents. By making the barriers magnetic and thus creating a spin-valve, we predict that a non-local Josephson diode effect occurs that is switchable via the magnetic configuration of the barriers. The diode effect is turned on, off, or changes its sign depending on whether the spin-valve is in a parallel, normal, or antiparallel configuration. These results offer a way to exert complete control over a non-local Josephson diode effect via the spin degree of freedom rather than varying a global magnetic flux which affects the entire system and likely neighbouring components in a device architecture., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures
