Abstract

Analyses to understand the origin of enantiospecificity involved the establishment of a unique geometry for the related catalyst-olefin-OsO4 reaction. The study also involved the elimination of the mu-oxo-bridged route as a possibility. Hydroboration, selective silylation, reaction of the silylated product with 3,6-dichloropyridazene and powdered KOH in toluene, the subsequent desilylation and gradual addition of diol and adipyl chloride to pyridine in CH2Cl2 formed the pathway for the preparation a quinidine derivative.
