Abstract

In the present study, activated carbons were obtained from vegetable Pecán nutshell by physical activation with water vapor, for which an electric furnace and a steam generator were adapted to a tubular rotary pyrolysis reactor where the carbonization of the particles was carried out to proceed immediately to activation. The activation temperature was from 600 to 800 °C and the activation time was from 0.5 to 2.0 h. The activated carbons obtained were characterized by: specific surface area, pore size distribution, pH and moisture content. The obtained N2 isotherms were adjusted to the Langmuir equation. The minimum specific surface area reached was 246 m2/g and the maximum value was 542 m2/g. The BJH model was used to analyze the results of pore distribution, observing a bimodal behavior where mesoporosity prevails and microporosity remains in second place. The pH varied from 6 to 13 and the moisture content was determined from 1.01 to 6.45%. The temperature and activation time for the largest specific area of 542 m2 / g were 800 ° C and 2 h, with a pH of 13, En el presente trabajo se obtuvieron carbones activados a partir de desechos vegetales mediante activación física con vapor de agua, para lo cual fueron adaptados un horno eléctrico y un generador de vapor a un reactor tubular rotatorio de pirolisis donde se llevó a cabo la carbonización de las muestras para en seguida proceder a la activación. El desecho vegetal utilizado fue cáscara de nuez de Pecán de México. La temperatura de activación fue de 600 a 800 °C y el tiempo de activación fue de 0.5 a 2.0 horas. Se caracterizaron los carbones activados obtenidos mediante pruebas de: área específica, distribución de tamaño de poros, pH y contenido de humedad. Las isotermas obtenidas se ajustaron a la ecuación de Langmuir. El área específica mínima alcanzada fue de 246 m2/g y el valor máximo fue de 542 m2/g. Se empleó el modelo BJH para el análisis de los resultados de distribución de poros observando un comportamiento bimodal donde prevalece la mesoporosidad y quedando en segundo término la microporosidad. El pH varió de 6 a 13 y el contenido de humedad se determinó desde 1.01 a 6.45 %. La temperatura y tiempo de activación para la mayor área específica de 542 m2/g fueron 800°C y 2 h y con un pH de 13

Abstract

Introduction: Cannabis use poses a significant risk to the psychological wellbeing of youth, affecting academic performance and potentially triggering the onset of mental health issues. Providing young people with comprehensive information about patterns of cannabis use and specific factors that increase an individual's health risks is crucial. The ability to critically assimilate this information is known as health literacy (HL). Objectives: To design a psychoeducational intervention to increase HL on risky cannabis use among students aged 16-25, and to assess its usability and feasibility. Methods: We designed a psychoeducational intervention based on the outcomes of a 3-hour co-creation session involving healthcare professionals and students. 29 university students and 25 high-school students completed this intervention and assessed its usability and feasibility with the SUS (System Usability Scale), PSSUQ (Post-Study System Usability Questionnaire) and additional open questions regarding the most and less-liked aspects of the intervention. Results: The design phase resulted in an informative website (http://www.cahlyclinic.cat/) and a 1-hour structured onsite educator-facilitated session, comprising 3 group activities (completed on paper or online) addressing three dimensions of cannabis HL: searching for, interpreting and applying reliable information. Usability of the intervention was rated as excellent (SUS mean score>80). PSSUQ results indicate that students were satisfied with the intervention; found the HL information clear, relevant, and adequate for their needs; found the interface of the digital version pleasant and usable without support; and would recommend it to other students. Conclusions: We propose an innovative structured and usable intervention, designed using a participatory approach, which aims to disseminate information on risky cannabis use to a key target population, namely young people. Abstract

Background During the transition to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) many patients pass through a phase characterised by the presence of symptoms without clinically apparent synovitis. These symptoms are not well-characterised. This taskforce aimed to define the clinical characteristics of patients with arthralgia who are considered at risk for RA by experts based on their clinical experience. Methods The taskforce consisted of 18 rheumatologists, 1 methodologist, 2 patients, 3 health professionals and 1 research fellow. The process had three phases. In phase I, a list of parameters considered characteristic for clinically suspect arthralgia (CSA) was derived; the most important parameters were selected by a three-phased Delphi approach. In phase II, the experts evaluated 50 existing patients on paper, classified them as CSA/no-CSA and indicated their level of confidence. A provisional set of parameters was derived. This was studied for validation in phase III, where all rheumatologists collected patients with and without CSA from their outpatient clinics. Results The comprehensive list consisted of 55 parameters, of which 16 were considered most important. A multivariable model based on the data from phase II identified seven relevant parameters: symptom duration <1 year, symptoms of metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints, morning stiffness duration =60 min, most severe symptoms in early morning, first-degree relative with RA, difficulty with making a fist and positive squeeze test of MCP joints. In phase III, the combination of these parameters was accurate in identifying patients with arthralgia who were considered at risk of developing RA (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve 0.92, 95% CI 0.87 to 0.96). Test characteristics for different cut-off points were determined. Conclusions A set of clinical characteristics for patients with arthralgia who are at risk of progression to RA was established.
