International audience; Background and objectives. - The French national authority for health (Haute Autorite de sante: HAS) and the French clinical toxicology society (Societe de toxicologie clinique: STC) received a formal request from the French ministry for heath to elaborate recommendations for the screening of environmental overexposure to inorganic arsenic (iAs), for the medical management of overexposed patients and for the medical surveillance of exposed population.Methods. - The method used for the elaboration was the Clinical practice guidelines method recommended by HAS in this situation (HAS, 2010).Results. - The recommendations are presented in the present article. They concern: a) identification of those sites with a high risk of iAs overexposure for the residents (using bioaccessible concentrations in soils); the target population for Asi overexposure screening and screening modalities (using measurement of iAs and its metabolites in urine); b) the biomonitoring indications and modalities for overexposed individuals; c) the fraction of the population with iAs environmental exposure which should be the target for the detection and the diagnosis of complications, and the modalities of these operations; d) the treatment and prevention of iAs environmental overexposure. All rights reserved.; RésuméContexte et objectifsÀ la demande de la Direction générale de la santé, la Haute Autorité de santé (HAS), en partenariat avec la Société de toxicologie clinique (STC) et avec la collaboration de la Société française de médecine du travail (SFMT), la Société française de santé publique (SFSP), la Société française de toxicologie analytique (SFTA) et la Société francophone de santé-environnement (SFSE) a élaboré des recommandations pour le dépistage des surexpositions environnementales à l’arsenic inorganique (Asi) et la prise en charge des populations concernées.MéthodeLa méthode d’élaboration utilisée est celle des Recommandations pour la pratique clinique (RPC) de la HAS (HAS, 2010).RésultatsLes recommandations élaborées identifient : les sites susceptibles d’entraîner des surexpositions environnementales, à partir de la concentration d’Asi dans leur sol ; la fraction des résidents qui constitue la population cible du dépistage ; les modalités de ce dépistage qui utilise le dosage de l’Asi et de ses métabolites dans les urines. En fonction des résultats du primo-dépistage, elles précisent les indications et le déroulement de la surveillance biométrologique. Elles indiquent la fraction de la population exposée qui constitue la cible de la recherche de complications de la surexposition environnementale à l’Asi. Elles précisent les modalités de cette recherche. Enfin, elles proposent des mesures pour le traitement et la prévention des contaminations par l’Asi de l’environnement.

Cette étude a été menée dans le cadre du projet ECOLAGNO s’intéressant à la production de viande d’agneau selon des pratiques agro-écologiques. Deux essais conduits sur deux années consécutives par le Centre Interrégional d’Information et de Recherche en Production Ovine (CIIRPO) avaient pour objectif de mesurer l’impact du mode de finition des agneaux, à l’herbe ou en bergerie, sur les qualités gustatives et nutritionnelles de la viande, ainsi que sur les aspects zootechniques. En 2016 et 2017, trois lots de 30 agneaux à l’herbe, allaités puis sevrés à 125 jours, ont été comparés. Le témoin était fini en bergerie avec un aliment concentré, les deux autres au pâturage dans l’objectif de finir les agneaux exclusivement avec de l’herbe : l’un en pâturage continu sur des parcelles multi-espèces composées de graminées, légumineuses et plantes riches en tanins ; l’autre en pâturage cellulaire. Les performances zootechniques et les qualités de la carcasse des agneaux sont peu différentes entre les trois lots. L’économie de concentré s’est située en moyenne à 50 kg brut par agneau avec une finition à l’herbe. Il n’y a pas eu de dégradation de l’odeur ou de la flaveur des côtelettes lors des finitions au pâturage ; en revanche, le profil en acides gras des viandes a été amélioré., This study was carried out within the framework of the ECOLAGNO project which focuses on lamb meat production according to agro ecological practices. Two experiments were conducted for two successive years by the interregional center of information and research on ovine production (CIIRPO) in order to measure the effect of the type of lamb fattening on sensory and nutritional qualities of their meat, and on breeding performances. In 2016 and 2017, three groups of 30 suckled lambs on pasture, weaned at 125 days of age, were compared. The control group was fattened with concentrated feed indoors and the other two groups were grass-fed in order to finish lambs only on grass, either within a continuous grazing system on plots with multispecies crops such as grass, legumes and tannin-rich plants or with cellular grazing. There were little differences between the three groups for lamb breeding performances and carcass qualities. On average 50 kg RM of concentrated feed were saved per lamb fattened on pasture. Grazing did not alter odor or flavor of lamb chops. However, the fatty acid profile of meat was improved for grass-fed animals.

Within the Drug Discovery industry, there is a growing recognition of the value of high content screening (HCS), particularly as researchers aim to screen compounds and identify hits using more physiologically relevant in vitro cell-based assays. Image-based high content screening, with its combined ability to yield multiparametric data, provide subcellular resolution, and enable cell population analysis, is well suited to this challenge. While HCS has been in routine use for over a decade, a number of hurdles have historically prohibited very large, miniaturized high-throughput screening efforts with this platform. Suitable hardware and consumables for conducting 1536-well HCS have only recently become available, and developing a reliable informatics framework to accommodate the scale of high-throughput HCS data remains a considerable challenge. Additionally, innovative approaches are needed to interpret the large volumes of content-rich information generated. Despite these hurdles, there has been a growing interest in screening large compound inventories using this platform. Here, we outline the infrastructure developed and applied at Bristol-Myers Squibb for 1536-well high content screening and discuss key lessons learned.

We study formal properties of smooth max-information, a generalization of von Neumann mutual information derived from the max-relative entropy. Recent work suggests that it is a useful quantity in one-shot channel coding, quantum rate distortion theory and the physics of quantum many-body systems. Max-information can be defined in multiple ways. We demonstrate that different smoothed definitions are essentially equivalent (up to logarithmic terms in the smoothing parameters). These equivalence relations allow us to derive new chain rules for the max-information in terms of min- and max-entropies, thus extending the smooth entropy formalism to mutual information., Comment: 15 pages
