A growing number of studies have used virtual reality (VR) for the assessment and treatment of body image disturbances (BIDs). This study, conducted in a community sample of adolescents, documents the convergent and discriminant validity between (a) the traditional paper-based Figure Rating Scale (paper-based FRS), (b) the VR-based Body Rating Scale (eLoriCorps-IBRS 1.1), and (c) the mobile app-based Body Rating Scale (eLoriCorps-IBRS 1.1-Mobile). A total of 93 adolescents (14 to 18 years old) participated in the study. Body dissatisfaction and body distortion were assessed through the paper-based FRS, the eLoriCorps-IBRS 1.1 and the eLoriCorps-IBRS 1.1-Mobile. Eating disorder symptoms, body image avoidance, and social physique anxiety were also measured. Correlation analyses were performed. Overall, the results showed a good and statistically significant convergence between allocentric perspectives as measured by the paper-based FRS, the eLoriCorps-IBRS 1.1 and the eLoriCorps-IBRS 1.1-Mobile. As expected, the egocentric perspective measured in VR produced different results from the allocentric perspective, and from cognitive–attitudinal–affective dimensions of BIDs, with the exception of body distortion. These differences support the discriminant validity of the egocentric perspective of eLoriCorps-IBRS 1.1 and are consistent with emerging evidence, highlighting a difference between experiencing the body from an egocentric (i.e., the body as a subject) and allocentric (i.e., the body as an object) perspective. The egocentric perspective could reflect a perceptual–sensory–affective construction of BIDs, whereas allocentric measures seem to be more related to a cognitive–affective–attitudinal construction of BIDs. Moreover, the results support the validity of the eLoriCorps-IBRS 1.1-Mobile with promising perspectives of implementation among young populations.

When confined in circular cavities, graphene relativistic charge carriers occupy whispering gallery modes (WGMs) in analogy to classical acoustic and optical fields. The rich geometrical patterns of the WGMs decorating the local density of states offer promising perspectives to devise new disruptive quantum devices. However, exploiting these highly sensitive resonances requires the transduction of the WGMs to the outside world through source and drain electrodes, a yet unreported configuration. Here, we create a circular p-n island in a graphene device using a polarized scanning gate microscope tip and probe the resulting WGM signatures in in-plane electronic transport through the p-n island. Combining tight-binding simulations and the exact solution of the Dirac equation, we assign the measured device conductance features to WGMs and demonstrate mode selectivity by displacing the p-n island with respect to a constriction. This work therefore constitutes a proof of concept for graphene whisperitronic devices.

The purpose of this article is to explore how the social work discipline could provide a complementary lens through which yoga therapy can be analyzed and evaluated by engaging in knowledge-creation practices and procedures that prioritize the “epistemic responsibility” described by philosopher Lorraine Code. More specifically, by seeking to strategically include often-subjugated types of knowledge and by focusing on redistributing epistemic power to agents that typically have been excluded from epistemic participation in contemporary yoga therapy research, the social work discipline, with its strong commitment to social justice, has the potential to contribute to filling an important gap in scientific literature. We begin by presenting the relevance of the social work perspective in relation to the field of yoga therapy. We next offer a reserved critical analysis of the dominant technical knowledge base that currently informs yoga therapy practice. This analysis highlights the social parameters that may be rendered invisible or left aside when adopting a positivist epistemological lens and justifies how the conceptual apparatus of epistemic responsibility serves as a potential platform for rethinking social work’s position and future contributions to the field of yoga therapy. Finally, we mobilize the concept of cultural appropriation to illustrate how striving for epistemic responsibility provides an entry point for addressing the multilevel, complex social processes embedded in yoga therapy practice and research while aiming to capture the many voices—and hence the various truths—implicated in a democratic, reflexive, and inclusive research process.

Since its initial publication, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders has been the object of criticism which has led to regular revisions by the American Psychiatric Association. This article analyses the debates that surrounded the publication of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.). Building on the concepts of public arenas and reception theory, it explores the meaning encoded in the manual by audiences. Our results, which draw from a thematic analysis of traditional and digital media sources, identify eight audiences that react to the American Psychiatric Association’s narrative of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.): conformist, reformist, humanist, culturalist, naturalist, conflictual, constructivist and utilitarian. While some of their claims present argumentative polarities, others overlap, thus challenging the idea, often presented in academic publications, of a fixed debate. In order to further discuss on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, we draw attention to claims that ‘travel’ across different communities of audiences.

Information and communication technologies are often considered by policymakers, industrial stakeholders and scientists as a key lever in the run towards sustainability, since they should ease energy efficiency and dematerialization. In this opinion article, nurtured by the inputs of a broad panel of experts, we challenge this widely spread view by highlighting the detrimental social and environmental footprints caused by digital technologies. We further take a critical look on the ways innovation is conducted nowadays, i.e., with an almost exclusive focus on performance and few considerations for externalities. This leads us to call for academic teaching programs advocating for a holistic approach, for new business models, and for ambitious political decisions able to drive a paradigm shift in the mainstream agenda of electronics innovation and digital transition that shall significantly contribute to the well-being of everyone, everywhere, without compromising future generations. We conclude that digital technologies cannot support long-term sustainability if their only purpose remains the optimization of the current system.

Observations of electron-hole asymmetry in transport through graphene devices at high magnetic field challenge prevalent models of the graphene quantum Hall effect. Here, we study this asymmetry both in conventional magnetotransport and in scanning gate microscopy maps measured in an encapsulated graphene constriction. We reveal that the presence of upstream modes and local doping in the vicinity of electrical contacts leads to a totally different picture of topological breakdown for electrons and holes, explaining the observed asymmetry., 5 pages, 5 figures

Walking droplets represent an ideal playground to explore wave-particle duality at the macroscopic scale. The proper control and measurement of such system requires several experimental tools that are not often easily affordable at undergraduate level. This paper proposes a complete low-cost and open-source experimental setup for walking droplets with a performance characterization. The setup is tested by examining the behaviour of droplets in the stadium billiard, a two-dimensional concave cavity that yields chaotic trajectories. Drastic differences between classical and quantum particles behaviour were observed in such geometry. In particular, the long-term evolution of walking droplets in a stadium billiard presents clear scarring patterns, informing on the existence of preferred "probable positions" within the billiard.

This study analyzes comments from two major social media, Facebook and Twitter, regarding the controversial cancellation of the 2015 African Cup of Nations (CAN) in Morocco and its transfer to Equatorial Guinea, a move precipitated by the contemporaneous outbreaks of Ebola in West Africa. Using frame analysis methodology (frames being the central ideas structuring a narrative account of an issue, event or controversy), it investigates how the sporting and health worlds are understood and conceptualized on Twitter and Facebook, in the context of a specific event. We also investigated the extent to which these frames are platform-specific. Data were collected by keyword extraction and submitted to a qualitative thematic and frame analysis, from which we identified six frames (Epidemic management, Sporting event, Political, Skepticism, Religion, and Economic). Analysis of these frames identified a number of classic issues from the sociology of not only football and epidemics but also of African political issues. The cancellation of the CAN thus provides an excellent window into the complex links between sport, heath and politics. Indeed, the online comments of social media users expressed a rich range of pre-existing frustrations, beliefs and political positions. Our results show that, in the context of the cancellation of the 2015 CAN, tweets mostly framed the event as an epidemic management issue, while Facebook comments typically framed it as an epidemic management, sporting and political event. Some themes treated in a factual way on Twitter became politicized on Facebook where, in addition, new political themes emerged. We conclude that studying social media conversations relating to a mega-sporting event could provide sociologically valuable insights about topics not typically directly associated with sport or health.

Background Worldwide, most adolescent girls do not meet physical activity (PA) recommendations and very few PA programs are tailored specifically towards them. Even fewer information exists about the long-term effects of such programs. Some Canadian schools have implemented the FitSpirit PA intervention designed specifically for girls aged 12 to 17 years old. This paper describes the protocol of a quasi-experimental study evaluating long-term changes in health behaviours and outcomes following FitSpirit participation. Methods The study is conducted among schools that partner with FitSpirit every year. It started in 2018 and will be completed in 2022. The intervention comprises motivational talks, a turnkey running program, PA sessions and special events. Study participants fill out an online questionnaire twice a year. Follow-up questionnaires are sent at the end of each school year to the study participants who dropout from FitSpirit. The main outcome, changes in PA levels, is evaluated using questions validated for adolescents. Secondary outcomes are health (perceived health); lifestyle habits (sedentary activities, eating and sleeping habits); psychosocial outcomes (physical self-efficacy and body satisfaction); and FitSpirit appreciation (activity participation and satisfaction). Most questions originate from questionnaires validated for the adolescent population. Cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses will be performed. Discussion This study will provide one of the first longitudinal reports on the impact of a large extra-curricular PA intervention designed specifically for adolescent girls. The current study will uniquely contribute to PA research by assessing outcomes additional to PA levels, including markers of health, lifestyle habits and psychosocial determinants. Trial registration NCT, NCT03804151, Registered on January 22, 2019; retrospectively registered.

This paper presents an overview of the current status of the Virtual Atomic and Molecular Data Centre (VAMDC) e-infrastructure, including the current status of the VAMDC-connected (or to be connected) databases, updates on the latest technological development within the infrastructure and a presentation of some application tools that make use of the VAMDC e-infrastructure. We analyse the past 10 years of VAMDC development and operation, and assess their impact both on the field of atomic and molecular (A&, M) physics itself and on heterogeneous data management in international cooperation. The highly sophisticated VAMDC infrastructure and the related databases developed over this long term make them a perfect resource of sustainable data for future applications in many fields of research. However, we also discuss the current limitations that prevent VAMDC from becoming the main publishing platform and the main source of A&, M data for user communities, and present possible solutions under investigation by the consortium. Several user application examples are presented, illustrating the benefits of VAMDC in current research applications, which often need the A&, M data from more than one database. Finally, we present our vision for the future of VAMDC.

Adolescence is a crucial time in the development and maintenance of lifestyle habits. Interventions to improve health-related behaviors are important, including those that can contribute to an increase in physical activity (PA). During adolescence, PA typically decreases with age, particularly in girls. The FitSpirit program offers services that help Canadian schools from Quebec and Ontario implement PA interventions for adolescent girls. This study aimed to evaluate changes in participants&rsquo, PA levels and lifestyle habits (sedentary time, sleep duration and eating habits) and to assess whether these changes depended on adherence to the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines and Canada&rsquo, s Food Guide recommendations at enrollment. At the time of FitSpirit registration (between December 2018 and March 2019) and in May/June 2019, 73 participants answered online questionnaires. The participants reported improvements, with an increase in the number of days with PA and a decrease in daily consumption of sweets. The greatest changes were observed in those who did not adhere to the Canadian recommendations before enrollment and who significantly increased their number of days with PA and their consumption of fruits and vegetables, and decreased their screen time. In conclusion, participation in FitSpirit improved several health behaviors among adolescent girls, particularly those who did not comply with the Canadian recommendations at enrollment.

This study aimed to analyze main groups accused on social media of causing or spreading the 2014-2016 Ebola epidemic in West Africa. In this analysis, blame is construed as a vehicle of meaning through which the lay public makes sense of an epidemic, and through which certain classes of people become "figures of blame". Data was collected from Twitter and Facebook using key word extraction, then categorized thematically. Our findings indicate an overall proximate blame tendency: blame was typically cast on "near-by" figures, namely national governments, and less so on "distant" figures, such as generalized figures of otherness ("Africans", global health authorities, global elites). Our results also suggest an evolution of online blame. In the early stage of the epidemic, blame directed at the affected populations was more prominent. However, during the peak of the outbreak, the increasingly perceived threat of inter-continental spread was accompanied by a progressively proximal blame tendency, directed at figures with whom the social media users had pre-existing biopolitical frustrations. Our study proposes that pro-active and on-going analysis of blame circulating in social media can usefully help to guide communications strategies, making them more responsive to public perceptions.

Au lieu de favoriser la discrimination ou la marginalisation, cette imbrication d’appartenances identitaires multiples permet le renforcement du pouvoir d’agir des jeunes femmes francophones., In this article, we present, according to the intersectional feminist theoretical framework, a study aimed at better understanding the identity dynamics that influence the demand for mental health services by young Francophone women living in minority situations, as well as their cross effects on the factors that trigger depression, the perception of symptoms and the therapeutic pathway. Our analysis reveals that the interweaving of several categories of inequality complicates access to mental health services for depressed young women in minority situations while encouraging the emergence of strategies to fight and resist. The intersection of gender, age and spoken language identity categories has compensatory effects on the demand for mental health services. While the positive social image of youth makes them hesitate when requesting services, the one linked to female identity legitimizes depression and the weaknesses that could result from it. Women are implementing strategies to address inequalities in access to mental health services in French and to find the services they consider appropriate for their specific problem. Instead of fostering discrimination or marginalization, this interweaving of multiple identities allows young Francophone women to empower themselves.

Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 44 Francophones and Anglophones from Moncton, Ottawa, Sudbury and Winnipeg who had experienced a depressive episode. The lexical analysis completed by integrated content analysis highlighted three main sociocognitive schemas of the social representation of the services, which affect the social acceptability of mental health services of Francophones living in minority settings: 1) the impersonal nature of the expertise of health professionals, 2) the medical facet of the depressive identity, and 3) the perceived loss of control in the context of care. The social acceptability of mental health services is also discussed in terms of the configuration of the social representation of services based on age.

Enfin, l’analyse permet de souligner comment cette intervention sportive « ritualisée » contribue au devenir adulte des participants., This article is the result of a study on the analysis of a rite of passage experienced within the sports intervention program of the Montreal organization DesÉquilibres. It aims to explore the conditions necessary to achieve positive outcomes through sports-based interventions. More specifically, the research aims to understand how sports interventions can be experienced as a rite of passage. To do this, a secondary data analysis was conducted with 14 students aged 14 to 18, who were in their third year of high school, and who participated in the DesÉquilibres program. The analysis of the participants’ discourse revealed five essential elements for sports interventions to be successfully lived as a rite of passage: the existence of a physical and mental test, the implementation of a common symbolism of the event, the social recognition of the participants, the presence of a “validation agent” and the enhancement of each person’s role and place within the group. Finally, the analysis highlights how this “ritualized” sports intervention contributes to the participants’ coming of age into adulthood.

Synopsis Stark broadening theories and calculations can now be considered as mature. The fast computers allow to calculate a great number of atomic data needed for accurate spectroscopic diagnostics and modeling, such as for stellar atmospheres and envelopes, laboratory and technological plasmas, and laser equipments. Thus the access to these data via an on line database is essential. The STARK-B database is intended to meet this need. It contains calculated widths and shifts of isolated atomic lines due to electron and ion impacts. It is still under development and will be presented at the Conference.

The literature on household modelling usually assumes the efficiency of household decisions while testable conditions often depend on auxiliary assumptions or are not suited to detect inefficient behavior. In this paper, we suggest a direct measure of inefficiency in cohabiting couples regarding a decision repeated each year: tax filling. In France, cohabiting couples with children are registered as two separate tax units but must allocate each child to only one of these units for the purpose of tax rebates. Using tax registers and simulations for the years 2013 and 2014, we find that around 25% of all of cohabitant couples do not allocate children optimally in their tax returns, which is a direct evidence of inefficiency. We discuss several pathways: cognitive aspects (transaction costs, `simple rule’ bias and inertia) and non-cooperative behavior (related to the lack of binding agreement, or potential asymmetry of information, between partners). We find traces of heuristics (like equal split, when the number of children is even) while transitions point to a large degree of inertia (confirming the existence of both efficient and inefficient types). Inefficient couples tend to separate more and to marry less in the subsequent period.

This paper explores the rarely addressed subject of linguistic majority in the context of Canadian society, through a qualitative analysis of 20 semi-directed interviews with majority Anglophone participants. It was found that while participants acknowledged a certain form of privilege related to their majority status within Canadian society, it was also common for them to experience situations in which they felt overlooked, marginalized and even discriminated against. "Linguistic privilege" has not been the subject of more studies because it is often seen as a "default", taken-for-granted status in Canadian society. However, studying this form of privilege and its intersections with other dimensions of identity such as gender, class and race could lead to new insights on language, power and group identity. Moreover, studies on "the majority" are especially pertinent in a context where "silent majorities" are becoming increasingly vocal in stating their dissatisfaction and feelings of discrimination. This article can provide pathways to a better understanding of this emergent issue.

Quantum transport in nanodevices is usually probed thanks to measurements of the electrical resistance or conductance, which lack the spatial resolution necessary to probe local-scale electron behavior. Here, we will discuss how to get real-space local information on peculiar quantum transport phenomena inside graphene constrictions. The results were obtained using low temperature scanning gate microscopy (SGM), which consists in mapping the electrical conductance of a device as an electrically-biased sharp metallic tip scans in its vicinity [1]. If the tip-induced perturbation is relatively small, SGM is an imaging technique giving access to the local density of states inside mesoscopic devices [2]. Here, we will focus on the regime of large tip-induced perturbation. This regime is particularly interesting in the case of graphene: depending on tip voltage and tip-sample distance, one can tune the shape, size, and smoothness of the moving scattering region associated with the tip, and eventually create a moving circular pn-junction within the device. We use this moving pn-junction to probe peculiar aspects of relativistic charge carrier dynamics within graphene devices: Klein tunnelling and current focusing and defocusing [3], Fabry-Pérot interferometry [4] and signatures of whispering gallery modes. This work unlocks new possibilities in the field of electron optics in graphene. [1] M.A. Eriksson et al., Appl. Phys. Lett. 69, 671 (1996); M. Topinka et al., Science 289, 671 (2000). [2] F. With the advent of high mobility encapsulated graphene devices, new electronic components ruled by Dirac fermions optics have been envisioned and realized. The main building blocks of electron-optics devices are gate-defined p-n junctions, which guide, transmit and refract graphene charge carriers, just like prisms and lenses in optics. The reflection and transmission are governed by the p-n junction smoothness, a parameter difficult to tune in conventional devices. Here we create p-n junctions in graphene, using the polarized tip of a scanning gate microscope, yielding Fabry-P\'erot interference fringes in the device resistance. We control the p-n junctions smoothness using the tip-to-graphene distance, and show increased interference contrast using smoother potential barriers. Extensive tight-binding simulation reveal that smooth potential barriers induce a pronounced quasi-confinement of Dirac fermions below the tip, yielding enhanced interference contrast. On the opposite, sharp barriers are excellent Dirac fermions transmitters and lead to poorly contrasted interferences. Our work emphasizes the importance of junction smoothness for relativistic electron optics devices engineering.

Graphene charge carriers behave as relativistic massless fermions, thereby exhibiting a variety of counter-intuitive behaviors. In particular, at p-n junctions, they behave as photons encountering a negative index media, therefore experiencing a peculiar refraction known as Veselago lensing. However, the way Dirac fermions flow through a Veselago lens remains largely unexplored experimentally. Here, a novel approach to create a movable and tunable circular p-n junction in graphene is proposed, using the polarized tip of a scanning gate microscope. Scanning the tip in the vicinity of a graphene constriction while recording the device conductance yields images related to the electron flow through a circular Veselago lens, revealing a high current density in the lens core, as well as two low current density zones along transport axis. Tight-binding simulations reveal the crucial role of the p-n junction smoothness on these phenomena. The present research adds new dimensions in the control and understanding of Dirac fermions optical elements, a prerequisite to engineer relativistic electron optics devices., Accepted for publication in Physical Review B, Rapid Communications

Objective Trends indicate that clinical psychologists’ theoretical orientations have changed over the last decades in North America, but research on this topic in Canada is scarce. We analyzed the orientation of psychologists over the last 20 years in the province of Quebec, where 46% of Canadian psychologists are located. Method Data were collected annually through the board registration form of Quebec psychologists’ professional order from 1993 to 2013. Univariate statistical analyses were realized on aggregated data. Results In 20 years, the proportion of clinicians choosing cognitive–behavioral therapy (CBT) as their main orientation grew from 18.4% to 38%, while preference for other orientations slightly declined. Existential–humanistic and psychodynamic–psychoanalytic approaches remained the primary orientation for around 21.7% and 21.5%, respectively. In 2013 (N = 8608), when taking into account 2 choices of theoretical orientation, 55.8% of clinicians chose CBT, 34.3% existential–humanistic orientation, 27.9% psychodynamic–analytic theories, and 21.8% systemic–interactional orientation. Conclusions Findings underline trends in Quebec clinical practice characterized by an increase in the number of psychologists identifying cognitive–behavioral approach as their primary self-reported theoretical orientation.
