The genome sequence of Bacillus cereus strain HT18, isolated from forest soil, was 5,333,415 bp long. The genome included 5,825 putative coding sequences and 35.2% GC content; the strain had 5 plasmids. Average nucleotide identity based on BLAST+ (ANIb) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) results showed that HT18 was 98.78% and 90.70% homologous, respectively, to B. cereus ATCC 14579 T .

Background: Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is one of the oil and cash crops in Vietnam. However, owing to the lack of appropriate management practices, the production and the area under cultivation of peanut have remained low. Mulches are the key factors contributing to promoting crop development and early harvest and increasing yields. Methods: The experiment consisted of three mulch treatments, viz., plastic mulch, straw mulch and no-mulch control. All the treatments were replicated thrice in a complete randomized block design. Result: In the conditions of mulch, the plant growth parameters (germination rate, growing time, plant height, number of branches per plant), leaf area index, the number of nodules per plant, dry matter accumulation, yield components and yield of peanut was much higher than that of no-mulch control. Among the mulches, plastic mulch was found superior to straw mulch in the pod yields and water-use efficiency and moisture conservation, thereby can be considered as a reliable practice for increasing the productivity of peanut on the coastal sandy land in Nghe An province, Vietnam.

Background: Understanding the effects of different plant densities and row spacing on yield and yield components of peanut L14 is essential for designing and adjusting management practices to improve yield. Methods: Five planting densities were tested in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications in 2019 spring crop on the coastal sandy land area in Dien Chau district, Nghe An, Vietnam. Result: The different density treatments affect the growth, development and yield of the peanut variety L14. With increasing plant density, the number of pod per plant, 100 pods weight, 100 seeds weight decreased, whereas plant height, leaf area index, dry matter production increased. Population yield increased with increasing plant density from the lowest density of 25 plants m-2 (2.78 tons ha-1), reached the highest at 35 plants m-2 (4.53 tons ha-1), then decreasing with increasing plant density. Peanut variety L14 is grown in plant densities and row spacing of 35 plants m-2 (25 cm × 25 cm) and 40 plants m-2 (25 cm × 20 cm) are most appropriate; plants grow, develop better and give a higher yield than other densities under the same conditions.

Cd concentrations were determined in coastal water, sediments and soft tissues of molluscs (hakf-crenate ark (Anadara subcrenata), noble scallop (Mimachlamys nobilis) and undulating venus (Paphia undulata)), which were collected from two stations in the harvesting area in Van Don, Quang Ninh province in 2014. In this study, cadmium concentration in seawater ranged from 0.22 µg.l-1 to 1 µg.l-1 while the concentration in sediment was from 0.59 mg.kg-1 to 1.55 mg.kg-1. Cd accumulated in hakf-crenate ark (Anadara subcrenata), noble scallop (Mimachlamys nobilis) and undulating venus (Paphia undulata) ranged from 0.81 mg.kg-1 to 1.48 mg.kg-1; from 0.35 mg.kg-1 to 2.23 mg.kg-1; from 0.25 mg.kg-1 to 0.81 mg.kg-1, respectively. Research result also showed that cadmium concentration in seawater in rainy season was higher than that in dry season while a contrary trend occurred in sediment. There was a weak correlation between Cd concentration in seawater and concentration of Cd in sediment in this area (r = 0.24). The cadmium fraction in sediment in this area was contributed as follows: residual component (F5) > Mn, Fe oxyhydroxide (F3) > organic matter-bound (F4) > acid soluble (F2) > ion-changeable (F1). Cadmium levels in tissues were in the order of stomach > mantle > gill > foot. Beside, cadmium components in adductor muscle of noble scallop were lowest. Therefore, the risk level for customer when consuming undulating venus (Paphia undulata), hakf-crenate ark (Anadara subcrenata) and adductor muscle was not high.

Attitude toward income inequality and its drivers have attracted great attention from policymakers around the globe. Nevertheless, it appears that there is a shortage of empirical studies on the issue, at least in the context of the Asia-Pacific region – the World’s most dynamic economic region. This study is conducted to determine key drivers of attitude toward income inequality from various demographic factors, including Gender, Age, Political party, Education, Supervision, Family income, and Class. Available data for 19 countries at a different level of economic growth and development in the region are collected from the World Values Survey in 2016. The findings from this empirical study suggest that the role of each demographic factor as a significant explanation of variation in the attitude toward income inequality is different across nations in the study. In addition, a set of demographic factors, significantly contributing to the variation in attitude toward income inequality, varies across selected countries in the study. Among the demographic factors, Supervision and Class tend to be dominant factors in explaining variation in the attitude toward income inequality.

During 2014–2016, farmers in Chau Thanh district, Tra Vinh province, Vietnam under financial support from Tra Vinh Department of Science and Technology, applying technical package and supervision of IAS and economic contract of Ecotiger Ltd, Company produced, processed and exported organic rice following standard of EU, USDA and JAS to EU and America. In 2015, mean yield of organic rice was 4.29 MT/ha, inorganic rice being 5.40 MT/ha, net profit of organic rice was 3,431,000 VND/ha higher than inorganic rice. In total 50 ha, total profit was 1,201,150,000 VND. In 2016, profit of organic rice was 36,481,250 VND/ha, while inorganic rice being 23,950,000 ND/ha. Profit ratio of organic rice was 2.7; inorganic rice being 1.7, net profit was 12,531,250 VND/ha. Besides, each hectare of tiger prawns or crabs rotated after organic rice harvested 70 million VND, net profit of 40 million VND. In some areas, models of raising green lobster intercropped with rice + raising other sources of sea fishes (goby, mullet, or land shrimp) had additional income of 20–30 million VND/ha. In 2015 about 200 MT and 2016 about 600 MT of organic rice attained organic standard of EU, USDA and JAS exported to EU and America. Ecotiger1 strives for 2000 MT under contract of exporting to foreign partners.

Introduction: The model of shrimp-rice rotation in coastal provinces in Mekong Delta (MD), Vietnam, is a special farming system and has become the cultivation practices for decades. Material and Method: This paper taking integrated organic rice and shrimp farming and value change linkage between farmers and companies into consideration for research and development and suggesting suitable solutions in organic agriculture (OA) development. Result: Organic rice production increased profit from 6 to 10 million VND per ha compared to conventional inorganic rice production. Organic products will maintain stable market credibility in the country as well as export, creating mutual benefit for both farmers and business in the value chain linkage. Conclusion: OA is also contributed to protecting the public health and preserving the environment in a clean and sustainable way.

With the purpose of identifying the negative association between overinvestment caused by agency problems and firm performance measured through profitability, the research employs the dataset of Thomson Reuters covering 669 Vietnamese non-financial listed companies in the period of 2012–2016. Applying the fixed effect technique to measure overinvestment and run the main econometric model, the paper finds that overinvestment is the cause leading to ineffective operations because it decreases firm profitability. The negative association between firm performance and overinvestment can be regulated with the intervention of the government through state ownership. The regulation impact of state ownership will be stronger in companies that has state ownership rate lower than 50%.

Previous studies suggested that the characteristics of an industry may play a significant role in the relationship between financial decisions and firm performance through the degree of concentration or competition. Therefore, this research aims to evaluate such a role in order to clarify the effect of industry competition on the relationship between debt and performance. Moreover, overinvestment is recently considered to be one of the causes leading to bad performance because it tends to worsen agency problems in enterprises. As a consequence, the paper is the first one to examine the different impacts of industry competition on the debt-performance relationship in companies with and without overinvestment. Collected from the financial statements of all listed firms on Vietnam’s stock exchange, the dataset covers a wide range of 21 various industries over a seven-year period. The research methodology goes through two steps. Firstly, it calculates two alternative variables as the representatives of competition and overinvestment through different subequations. Secondly, it adds them to the main regression to estimate the results with the help of System-GMM estimator together with two instrumental variables, tangibility and non-debt tax shield, to deal with the endogenous problem. The findings show that debt ratio is positively related to firm performance and that the relationship might become stronger at the high level of industry competition. Nevertheless, the research indicates that the positive interaction between debt and competition gets weaker under overinvestment.

The pyrolysis characteristics of spruce wood and birch wood, both of two different particle sizes: 0.063-0.1 mm and 0.2-0.3 mm were investigated using thermogravimetric analyzer. The pyrolysis process was subdivided into four stages at a rate of 5, 20 and 50 K/min, varying from 30 to 600C. Below 170C, a mass loss occurred for drying and preheating the sample and a significant mass loss occurred between 230-420C. The estimation of kinetic parameters for the temperature range of 150-600C resulted in obtaining values of activation energies between 54.48-66.76 kJ/mol and 50.03-65.04 kJ/mol for spruce and birch, respectively.
