One of the urgent problems is the development of modern technologies for the care and feeding of rabbits imported to the country on farms and households. This article provides scientific recommendations for feeding imported rabbits on farms and households on the basis of rations enriched with valuable macro and micro elements and vitamins. Feeding rabbits on the basis of complete rations, taking into account the nutritional norms, is important in the emergence of the genetic potential of the New Zealand rabbit breed.

Background/Purpose In aortic valve stenosis calcification begins with nucleation on extracellular vesicles. In order to study early-stage disease, validated animal models are needed. The Drolet rabbit model is relevant due to tricuspid valve, but failed to consistently produce stenosis probably due to regimen administration. We compared a modified rabbit model and investigated the mechanisms and patterns of calcification. Methods New Zealand rabbits introduced to normal chaw+1% cholesterol+8750 IUs Vitamin D2/kg (Sigma) daily, in olive oil given in a bisquit vs control animals, for 8 weeks. Aortic valve area (AVA) and mean gradient (meanGr) was assessed with echocardiography (Vivid 7, M3S transducer, GE). At 8 weeks animals were sacrificed and valves were snap-frozen to −80°C. From each animal, one cusp was analyzed with Fourier-Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR, Nicolet 6700 spectrometer, OMNIC 7.3 software), another cusp was processed in alcoholic solution and the third was fixed 0.5 μm thin on 4% PFA; supernatant and tissue respectively examined with multispectral optical imaging. Valves from patients with severe stenosis were used for qualitative comparisons. Results At 8 weeks versus baseline, AVA reduced (0.5 cm2 to 0.3 cm2) and meanGr increased (1.1 to 2.95 mmHg, p Conclusions The modified high-fat-vitamin D2 rabbit model produces aortic valve stenosis, with chemically identical mineralization to human lesion. Multispectral photonics demonstrate the presence of calcified membranous extracellular particles, a hallmark of cardiovascular calcification. Cleft palate repair is a challenging procedure for cleft surgeons to teach, and in research, it can be difficult to evaluate different techniques and develop new treatments. In this study, a congenital cleft palate New Zealand rabbit model has been described and could be beneficial in future studies concerning cleft palate repair. Pregnant New Zealand rabbits received 1.0 mg dexamethasone injection intramuscularly once a day from the 13th gestation day (GD13) to GD16. On GD31. Newborn rabbits were delivered by cesarean sections, fed with a standardized gastric tube feeding method, and divided into two groups. The rate of survival and the incidence of cleft palate was calculated. Weight, appearance, behavior, maxillary occlusal view, and regional anatomic and histological comparisons were recorded within 1 month after birth. Infants from the two groups with similar physiological conditions were selected for continuous maxillofacial and mandibular Micro-CT scan and three-dimensional reconstruction analysis. Ten pregnant rabbits gave birth to 48 live infants. The survival and cleft palate rates were 65.6% and 60.4% respectively. Both groups survived over 1 month with no difference in weight, appearance, and behavior. The cleft type was stable, and anatomical defects, histological characteristics, and nasal-maxillary abnormalities of the cleft were similar to those of humans. There was no statistically significant difference in maxillary and mandible development between the two groups within one month after birth. This congenital cleft palate model is considered to have more research possibilities with efficient cleft induction, reliable feeding methods, stable anatomical defects, and maxillofacial development similar to those seen in humans.

Objective: Regarding the displaying of the main differences between the pelvic limb of rabbit and cat. Materials and methods: Our work was performed on 10 New Zealand rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and domestic cats (Felis domestica) with variable ages and of both sexes. After weighing of the animals, sedation, and anesthesia, the animals were examined radiographically. The bones of the pelvic limb were prepared, measured for its length/cm then described and compared. Results: The iliac tuberosity and the conversion of the acetabular notch into foramen were characteristics of Os coxae of the rabbit. The intertrochanteric crest was detected on the femur of the cat. In the rabbit, the leg interosseous space was located in the proximal third of this region while in the cat, it was extended along its length. The first metatarsal was undeveloped in the cat but was absent in the rabbit so metatarsal were four in the rabbit and five in the cat. The digits of the pelvic limbs in both animals were four in number. The distal sesamoid was single, transversely situated, and shuttle-shaped in rabbit but it was absent in cat. Conclusion: So, the chief points of variation between the pelvic limb bones of rabbit and cat enabled us to keep away the commercial fraud and facilitated their use as an animal model for education purposes. Objective To assess geniposide’s effects in New Zealand rabbits with high-fat diet induced atherosclerosis and to explore the underpinning mechanisms. Materials and methods Aorta histological changes were evaluated by intravenous ultrasound (IVUS) and H&E staining. Lipid accumulation in the aortic was quantified by Oil Red O staining. Then, RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) was carried out for detecting differentially expressed genes in rabbit high-fat diet induced atherosclerosis. The levels of the cytokines CRP, IL-1β and IL-10 were determined by ELISA. Protein levels of iNOS and Arg-1 were assessed by Western blot and immunohistochemical staining. The mRNA expression levels of NR4A1, CD14, FOS, IL1A, iNOS and Arg-1 were detected by quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR). Results Geniposide markedly reduced the degree of atherosclerotic lesions in aorta tissues. RNA-seq and qPCR demonstrated that NR4A1, CD14, FOS and IL1A mRNA amounts were overtly increased in New Zealand rabbits with high-fat diet induced atherosclerosis. Moreover, geniposide reduced iNOS (M1 phenotype) mRNA and protein amounts as well as IL-1β secretion, which were enhanced in New Zealand rabbits with high-fat diet induced atherosclerosis. Besides, Arg-1 (M2 phenotype) mRNA and protein amounts were significantly increased after geniposide treatment, as well as IL-10 secretion. Conclusion These findings suggest that geniposide could inhibit the progression of and stabilize atherosclerotic plaques in rabbits by suppressing M1 macrophage polarization and promoting M2 polarization through the FOS/MAPK signaling pathway.

Introduction: Intestinal anastomosis is carried out with the continuous and simple interrupted sutures technique. Simple interrupted suture is the standard technique in intestinal anastomosis nowadays1,2. Continuous suture has better serosal apposition, shorter processing time and triggers the formation of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) which can stimulate the production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) that stimulate migration and proliferation of mesenchymal cells, especially fibroblast cells which support the synthesis and increasing collagen density in anastomosis tissue. The aim of current study is to compare the anastomosis technique with continuous and simple interrupted sutures reviewed from fibroblast count and collagen density score in rabbit intestines.Method: This study is an experimental study. The sample of this study consisted of 36 rabbits divided into two groups continuous and simple interrupted sutures. Randomization is done by permuted randomization block. The inclusion criteria in this study were rabbit strain Oryctolagus cuniculus aged 8-9 months, weighted 2000-2500 grams, healthy and active. The independent variable in this study is the ileal anastomosis technique and the dependent variable is the fibroblasts count and the collagen density score formed on the anastomosis tissue assessed histopathologically.Results: This study found the average age of the rabbit was 8 months, with an average weight of 2400 grams, the number of fibroblasts in the group of rabbits which received continuous suture was 47 ± 12.679 fibroblasts per visual field with collagen score was 1.88 ± 0.781, whereas in rabbits with interrupted sutures, the fibroblasts count was 42.76 ± 12.47 fibroblasts per visual field with collagen score was 1.82 ± 0.728. However, from the analytic testing showed that the rabbits treated with continuous suture were not significantly different in fibroblast count and collagen density score compared to simple interrupted group (p>0.05), but in continuous rabbit group have higher collagen density scores and fibroblasts count than rabbits who get simple interrupted sutureConclusion: This study proves that continuous suture results in higher fibroblast count and collagen density score than interrupted suture yet statistically insignificant.

In order to study the pattern of ossification of the components of the postcranial axial skeleton of the white new Zeeland rabbit, intact embryos were isolated between days (d) 13 and 28 of pregnancy, and postnatal till three months old rabbit. All specimens were fixed in 95% ethanol for at least one week, a group was bulk-stained using alizarin and Alcian blue, in order to stain bone and cartilage, respectively, and cleared. Another group was histologically stained with H&E and Mason Trichrome. A third group was examined with CT and X-ray. The time of the first appearance of ossification centers of these prenatal and postnatal specimens was analyzed. The findings demonstrated that, with the exception of the atlas and axis, all of the cervical vertebrae studied had similar growth patterns. The time of appearance of the various centers of ossification in the skeletal elements studied proceeded in a similar order to that described by previous authors, although there were some discrepancies in the exact time of the first appearance of certain ossification centers. Secondary ossification for the epiphysis cranialis and caudalis (the bony collar) appear in cervical region and then extend in cephalocaudal direction till complete appearance at the age of 45-days old rabbit. The data presented here provide useful baseline information on the normal sequential pattern of ossification in the typical cervical vertebrae and the characteristic growth pattern of the individual components in the rabbit.

Propolis contains arginine (amino acids), ferulic acid (a derivative compound cinnamic which promotes the formation of collagen), flavonoids (phenolic compounds), and other compounds that can prevent the growth of bacteria, virus, and fungi. The purpose of this study was to measure the most concentration of propolis extracts that effective to heal burns of New Zealand rabbit's. This was an experimental study with the post-test only control group design. As many as 15 male white rabbits were divided into 5 groups which treated by propolis extract with concentration of 50%, 75%, 100%, positive control by bioplacenton and negative control with propylene glycol. The macroscopic observation was done with detached necrosis tissue and the growth of collagen tissue as the parameter. Data were analyzed by using the one-way ANOVA and continued by the SNK test. The results of this study indicated that the propolis extracted have potency on healing burn wound with the significance of 0.00 (p≤0,05). In the concentration of 100%, extract of propolis has potency on healing burn wound that proportionates with bioplacenton with the significance value of 1.000 (p≥0,05). It is concluded that by increasing dose, the healing time of burn wound will be shortened.Keywords : Propolis, healing burns, rabbit

Objective: Sertoli cells (SCs) are important sustentacular cells in the seminiferous tubules of the testis. Isolation and identification of SCs are the premise for studying their functions. Since New Zealand rabbit is a stable strain which is widely used for biomedical research and animal farming, this study aimed to develop a simple and effective protocol for SC isolation in New Zealand rabbits. Materials and Methods: The SCs of three 30-day-old New Zealand rabbits were isolated by incu¬bation with enzymatic digestion I (Dulbeccos modified Eagle medium supplemented with 1 mg/ ml collagenase IV and 50 μg/ml DNase I) and digestion II (digestion I + 1 mg/ml hyaluronidase + 1 mg/ml trypsin), as well as differential plating. The cells were enriched and identified by using immunocytochemical staining and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction analysis. Results: Homogeneous cells were obtained. They presented the typical large cell body and an irregular pyramidal shape after differential plating and passaging. These cells expressed mRNA of the SC marker sex-determining region Y-box 9 (SOX9) instead of the Leydig cell marker StAR. Immunocytochemically, they are positive of SOX9, GATA binding protein 4, and androgen-binding protein. Conclusion: The SCs were enriched from the testicular tissues of prepubertal New Zealand rabbits by a simple and effective protocol, which provides a basis for further theoretical researches and practical applications. The aim of this paper is to compare the dynamics of urea and creatinine, in rabbits that are infected with Staphylococcus aureus (experimental) and in control groups. The objective of the current work is to investigate the possible beneficial effects of forced feeding of fenugreek to rabbit does on their milk composition, milk yield, anemia screening parameters, immunity and the growth performance of bunnies. Twenty white New Zealand female rabbits were randomly assigned into 5 groups: normal control and 4 treated groups (vehicle (molasses), fenugreek powdered seeds + molasses, sprouted fenugreek + molasses, and fenugreek oil + molasses). All treated groups took the given doses orally for two days before parturition and 13 days after parturition for 2 successive pregnancies. Blood samples were collected from each doe on the 13th day of lactation for determination of hematological, biochemical and immunological parameters. Milk samples were taken for evaluation of milk composition. All rabbit does and their bunnies were weighed for calculation of the milk yield. The fenugreek seeds and oil administered groups (G3 & G5) recorded the highest percent values of fat, protein, lactose, total solids and solid not fat contents of the rabbits’ milk in both 1st and 2nd lactation periods relative to other tested groups. At the beginning and mid of lactation periods, the milk yields recorded non-significant differences either between tested groups or between 1st and 2nd pregnancy in the same group. Whereas, at the end of lactation, germinated seeds (G4) and oil (G5) treated groups recorded significantly higher rates of milk yield relative to control and fenugreek seeds groups. Bunnies’ body weights suckling from dams of group III (G3) recorded the highest weights relative to other tested groups in both 1st and 2nd pregnancy. During the 1st lactation period, all experimental groups showed significant reduction of white blood cells, while, G3 and G4 recorded significant elevation during 2nd lactation period. Rabbits treated with fenugreek seeds powder (G3) showed a significant raise of phagocytic activity and phagocytic index. Fenugreek seeds group (G3) and germinated one (G4) showed significant red blood corpuscles and packed cell volume raise relative to other groups during both 1st and 2nd lactation periods.

This study was conducted to investigate the influence of using discarded date as a source of energy to replace of 25, 50 and 75% instead of barely grains in growing New Zealand rabbit diets on growing rabbit performance. A total number of 48 unsexed, weaned New Zealand White rabbits of 6 weeks old were randomly divided into four experimental groups (12 for each). Four pelleted experimental diets were formulated to be approximately isocaloric, isonitrogenous and isofibrous. The trail lasted about 8 weeks and experimental group animals were allotted to receive four experimental diets. Insignificant (P≥0.05) differences were observed in feed consumption among the different experimental groups. Using of 25 and 50% discarded date in growing rabbit diets increased significantly live body and daily weight gain. Feed conversion ratio was significantly improved with feeding 25 and 50% discarded date compared to control diet. Replacing 25 % of the barely by discarded date significantly increased the values of DM, CP, CF digestibilities and percentages of TDN, DE and NB compared to the other groups. Also using 50% discarded date as replacer to barely significantly increased the values of DM and CF digestibility than the other groups. Discarded dates at levels 25% in the diets, led to significant differences in empty carcass and dressing percentage% compared to the control groups. Using 75% discarded date as replacer to barely significant increase the values of catalase than the other groups. Data showed significantly decreased in the value of lipid peroxidase for rabbits fed on diets containing of discarded dates at levels 50 and 75% compared to the control groups. Analysis of variance revealed that using 25 or 50% discarded dates as instead to barely significantly increased the value of total volatile fatty acid and ammonia concentration compared to the control group. Discarded dates at levels 25 and 50% led to significant differences in triiodothyronine hormone (T3) compared to control group. Using 25, 50 and 75% discarded dates as a source of energy in growing rabbit diets decrease feed cost and improve economic efficiency. In general, the results indicated that using discarded dates in rabbit diets with rate of 75% of barely grains reduced fed costs without adverse effects on performance of rabbits.

Introduction: Precise knowledge of variations in arterial vascularization of the abdominal viscera is important for systematization of radiological and surgical anatomy in animals that serve as experimental models and in domestic animals. Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the origin and main branches of the cranial and caudal mesenteric arteries in rabbits. Materials and Methods: The anatomical dissections were performed in 30 cadavers of adult rabbits, 15 males and 15 females. Results: The cranial mesenteric artery arose as a single artery in all females and males. The average length of the cranial mesenteric artery in females was 2.63 cm and originated at the level oflst lumbar vertebra in two (13.33%) animals, between the 1st and 2nd lumbar vertebra in four (26.67%), on the 2nd lumbar vertebra in seven (46.67%), between 2nd and 3rd lumbar vertebra in one (6.67%) and at the level of 3rd lumbar vertebra in one (6.67%). The average length of the cranial mesenteric artery in males was 2.56 cm and originated at the level of1st lumbar vertebra in two (13.33%) animals, between the 1st and 2nd lumbar vertebra in two (13.33%), at the level of the 2nd lumbar vertebra in eight (53.33%), between the 2nd and 3rd lumbar vertebra in three (20%). The main ramifications of the cranial mesenteric artery were the caudal pancreatic duodenal, middle colic, jejunal and ileocecocolic arteries. The caudal mesenteric artery arose as a single artery in all females and males. The average length of the caudal mesenteric artery in females was 0.846 cm and originated at the level of 5th lumbar vertebra in three (20%) animals, between the 5th and 6th lumbar vertebra in two (13.33%), at the level of the 6th lumbar vertebra in seven (46.67%), %), between the 6th and 7th lumbar vertebra in two (13.33%) and at the level of the 7th lumbar vertebra in one (6.67%). The average length of the caudal mesenteric artery in males was 0.79 cm and originated at the level of the 5th lumbar vertebra in two (13.33%) animals, between the 5th and 6th lumbar vertebra in one (6.67%), at the level of the 6th lumbar vertebra in seven (46.67%), between the 6th and 7th lumbar vertebra in four (26.67%) and at the level of the 7th lumbar vertebra in one (6.67%). The caudal mesenteric artery arises from the aorta, originating the cranial rectal and left colic arteries. Conclusion: No relation was observed between the mesenteric length and the rostrum-sacral length in rabbits. The origin of the cranial and caudal mesenteric artery is not gender dependent.

The relationship between the fatty acid (FA) profile of cecotrophs and that of the milk fat was evaluated in nine multiparous New Zealand does during the first 12 days of lactation. Milk samples were obtained manually on days 6, 8, 10, and 12 postpartum and cecotrophs and feces were collected on days 7, 9, and 11 postpartum. The FA profiles of feed, milk, cecotrophs, and feces were determined using gas chromatography. The principal FA found in rabbits' milk were 8:0, 10:0, 16:0, 18:1 cis-9, and 18:2 n-6. Bacteria-derived FA found in the milk fat included branched FA from 14 to 16 carbons, and 18:1 trans. Two isomers of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) were also present, namely cis-9,trans-11 (0.09 ± 0.006 mol%) and trans-10,cis-12 (0.06 ± 0.01 mol%). The content of total FA in the cecotrophs was the 1.10 ± 0.08 mg/100 mg freeze-dried sample, with 2.50 ± 0.83 mol% 18:1 trans-11. Significant correlations between cecotroph and milk FA profiles were found for numerous FA, and those with correlation coefficients greater than 0.90 were 12:0, 14:0, 15:0, 16:0, 18:0, 18:1 trans-6/8, 18:1 trans-9, 18:1 cis-9, 18:2 n-6, 18:3 n-3, 20:1 cis-9, 20:2 n-6, and 22:0. Cecum biohydrogenation processes were evident based on the greater content of saturated FA (p = 0.008) found (54.46 ± 4.37 mol%) in the cecotrophs relative to that in feces (43.08 ± 4.37 mol%). Under conditions of the present study, the milk FA profile was influenced by the FA profile of diet and the cecotrophs consumed by lactating does.

Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) play a regulatory role in various physiological processes in mammals and act as endogenous ligands for the G protein-coupled receptors (GPR) 41 and 43. The role of GPR41 and GPR43 in mediating SCFA signaling in the rabbit remains unclear. The present study was to investigate the sequence of the GPR41 and GPR43 messenger RNA (mRNA) and their expression pattern in different tissues and developmental stages in New Zealand rabbit. Comparison of genomic sequences in GenBank using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool program suggested that the New Zealand rabbit GPR41 mRNA has high similarities with the human (84%), bovine (84%) and Capra hircus (84%) genes. Similarly, GPR43 mRNA has high similarity with the rat (84%) and mouse (84%) genes. Real-time PCR results indicated that GPR41 and GPR43 mRNA were expressed throughout rabbit’s whole development and were expressed in several tissues. La aorta abdominal del conejo ha sido objeto de estudio e investigacion para desarrollar nuevas plataformas de entrenamiento para protocolos diagnosticos y terapeuticos asi como para probar las virtudes de materiales y equipos endovasculares, sin embargo, existen muy pocas descripciones en la literatura de las ramas viscerales que emergen de la aorta abdominal en esta especie. Las variaciones anatomicas son eventos de ocurrencia comun y por lo tanto deben ser considerados para realizar investigacion y ensayos clinicos. El objetivo del presente estudio ha sido describir los diferentes patrones que pueden presentar las ramas viscerales que emergen de la aorta abdominal en el conejo.

Introduction: The research on the marine products and creatures, in particular coral, has started during the recent decade, confirming the beneficial effects of this material. Therefore, this study aimed to use the coral native to Persian Gulf as oral powder to heal the tibial bone defect in rabbits. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 18 New Zealander rabbits were randomly categorized into 3 groups (control group, the group which used oral calcium powder and the one which used oral coral powder) of 6 rabbits. For producing the defect, 1/3 of the tibial bone was blunt dissected and the operation site was observed. Using an orthopedic drill, a hole with the depth of 0.6-0.8 mm and diameter of 4 mm was produced and after emptying and washing, the operation site was sutured. The operation was performed on all the 3 groups similarly. The calcium group was treated using 1150 mg calcium powder daily, the coral group received 1220 mg of coral powder on a daily basis, and the control group was kept under standard condition. On days 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 63, the cases were evaluated and pathological studies were performed. Amaç: Yeni Zelanda tavşanlarında midenin farklı doluluk derecelerinin karın organlarının topografisi üzerine etkisi araştırıldı. Gereç ve Yöntem: Tavşanlar; normal beslenenler, midesi boş ve midesi dolu olmak üzere 8’er adetlik 3 gruba ayrıldı. Doygunlukları farklı olan her üç gruptaki tavşanlardan 6 tanesi (3x2) diseke edildi. Bu üç grup hayvandan paramedian ve transversal kesitler alındı. Bulgular: Çalışmada Yeni Zelanda tavşanında mide boşken duodenum’un başlangıcının arcus costales’in bitiş seviyesinde olduğu görüldü. Çalışmada cecum’un midesi boş tavşanlarda karın boşluğunun ventral’inde, midenin curvatura ventriculi major’u ile pelvis boşluğu girişi arasında, karın boşluğunun sağ tarafında, sağ karın duvarına temas eder durumda bulunduğu görüldü. Midesi dolu tavşanlarda ise cecum’un curvatura ventriculi major’un sağ kısmının altında, sağ karın duvarına dayalı olarak caudal yönde uzandığı belirlendi. Midesi boş tavşanlarda colon’un regio umbilicalis’te cecum’un kıvrımları arasında ampulla coli halinde başladığı, midesi dolu tavşanlarda ise colon’un karın boşluğunun sağ ve ventral kısmında, median düzlemin sol kısmına da geçmiş pozisyonda, karın boşluğunun ventral duvarına temas eder durumda yerleştiği görülmüştür. Öneri: Tavşanların normal abdomen bölgesinin kesit anatomisinde mide doluluğunun barsaklar üzerine etkili olabileceği ifade edilebilir., Aim: The objective of the present study was examining the effect of stomach’s different fullness levels on the topography of abdominal organs in rabbits. Materials and Methods: Rabbits were divided into 3 groups, each of which consisting of 8 rabbits. 6 rabbits of those in each group with the same fullness level (3x2) were dissected. Paramedian and transversal sections were taken from this 3 groups. Results: It was observed that when the stomach was empty, duodenum’s beginning was on the ending level of arcus costales in New Zealand rabbits. When the stomach was full, it was pushed from pyloris towards the cranial. Cecum was observed to be in contact with right abdominal wall on the right side of the abdominal cavity as contacting uterus between stomach’s curvatura ventriculi major and pelvis cavity entry in ventral abdominal cavity in rabbits with empty stomachs. In rabbits with full stomachs, cecum was determined to extend caudally contacting right abdominal wall and it was located under the right side of curvatura ventriculi major. Colon was found to start as ampulla coli between the folds of cecum in region umbilicalis in rabbits with empty stomachs; whereas, it was located as being contacted with the ventral wall of abdominal cavity in a position passing the left part of median level in right and ventral part of the abdominal cavity in rabbits with full stomachs. Conclusion: It may be convcluded that fullness of the stomach effects on intestines in the cross-sectional anatomy of the normal abdominal region in the rabbit

Colibacillosis is a disease caused by Escherichia coli in a variety of animals, including humans. Rabbit colibacillosis is infrequent or with an incipient description in Chile. Here, we describe an E. coli case in a white New Zealand rabbit at an animal facility in Santiago, Chile. Necropsy, histology, bacteriology, and 16S sequencing indicated an E. coli systemic infection. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that this E. coli J305 isolate is closely related to Shigella spp.

Background In this study we examined the effects of two different repeated Extracorporeal Shock Waves (ESW) on the consolidation period of the distraction osteogenesis (DO) of the rabbit mandible using stereological, radiological and immunohistochemical methods. Material and Methods DO was performed unilaterally in the mandible of 18 New Zealand rabbits (six months old, weighing between 2.5-3 kg). In the consolidation period, rabbits were divided into three groups randomly after the distraction period. The distraction zone of the mandible was received no treatment as controls (E0*2). Group 2 (E 500*2) received ESWT (twice 500 impulses at 14 kV and 0.19 mJ/mm2 energy) in the first and fourth days of the consolidation. Group 3 (E1000*2) treated with ESWT (twice 1000 impulses at 14 kV and 0.19 mJ/mm2 energy) in the first and fourth days of the consolidation period. After the sacrification, radiologically bone mineral density, new bone formation, new fibrous tissue and new vessel formation were analyzed by stereological. Results It was found a statistically significant difference between the study groups and control group in the bone mineral density measurements and the highest value was in the E1000*2 group. In the stereological analysis, new bone formation was highest in the E1000*2 group and there was a significant difference compared to the other groups (E0*2 and E500*2) (p=0.000). The lowest connective tissue volume was found in the E500*2 and there was a significant difference compared to the other groups (E0*2 and E1000*2) (p=0.000). The volume of the new vessel was highest in the E500*2 and lowest in the E0*2 group. It was found statistically significant difference between the values of the study and control groups. Conclusions Interestingly, we found that repetition of the 1000 impulses ESWT accelerated the consolidation, 500 impulses ESWT extended consolidation period of the DO. The aim of this study is to introduce moist heat postconditioning as a means to increase skin flap survival and evaluate its effectiveness. Eight white New Zealand rabbits weighing 2500 to 3000 g were separated into two groups. In both groups, the truncal flaps spanning four consecutive angiosomes were elevated bilaterally. Flaps were inset back afterwards, and to the flaps in the trial group moist heat was applied for 30 minutes. After 2 weeks, the flaps were photographed and flap survival ratios were calculated via ImageTool((C)) software (University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, Texas, USA). With an average necrosis ratio of 4.91% versus 37.31%, the flaps treated with moist heat displayed a significantly better survival rate (p = 0.000). This study presenting our new method demonstrates that application of moderate moist heat right after the flap inset provides a significant increase in flap survival and introduces a noninvasive, cost-effective, and safe method for clinical use.

Background: The purpose of this study is to determine the interaction between Blastema tissue and decellularized three-dimensional matrix of ovine bladder in vitro. Materials and Methods: In order to produce relaxation of decellularized ovine bladder, combination of physiochemical methods were used. Thus, pieces of bladder were put in -4 C and then samples were put in liquid nitrogen; then all samples were decellularized using chemical combination of 1% SDS (Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate). To produce Blastema tissue, a few 2 mm diameter holes were made in auricles of male New Zealand rabbits. After 72 hours, The Blastema ring was removed and it was put under sterile conditions of decellularized scaffolds inside the Blastema ring and moved to the medium. Objective: In this study, we investigated the effect of L-arginine on hemodynamic, biochemical, and histopathological changes in a rabbit model with renal ischemia. Methods: Forty white New Zealand rabbits were used. The rabbits were divided into two groups as the control group (n=20) and L-arginine group (n=20). They were monitored by cannulating the auricular and femoral arteries. An aortic occlusion catheter was inserted through the contralateral femoral artery and was extended to the distal aspect of the left subclavian artery; it was then inflated, and occlusion was performed for 30 min. All rabbits received 4 mL/kg/h of NaCl infusion during the course of occlusion and within the first 60 min of reperfusion. In the L-arginine group, L-arginine was infused at a dosage of 3 mg/kg/h through the auricular vein during the first 60 min of occlusion and perfusion. Blood samples for biochemical parameters [glucose, lactate, hematocrit, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and serum creatinine] were obtained in the peri-ischemic period, in the 20th minute of reperfusion, and just before sacrificing (48th hour). A histopathological examination was performed in both renal tissues.
