Wormholes are tunnels connecting different regions in space-time. They were obtained originally as a solution for Einstein's General Relativity theory and according to this theory they need to be filled by an exotic kind of anisotropic matter. In the present sense, by "exotic matter" we mean matter that does not satisfy the energy conditions. In this article we propose the modelling of wormholes within an alternative gravity theory that proposes an extra material (rather than geometrical) term in its gravitational action. Our solutions are obtained from well-known particular cases of the wormhole metric potentials, named redshift and shape functions, and yield the wormholes to be filled by a phantom fluid, that is, a fluid with equation of state parameter $\omega<-1$. In possession of the solutions for the wormhole material content, we also apply the energy conditions to them. In this paper we derive a novel cosmological model from the $f(R,T)$ theory of gravitation, for which $R$ is the Ricci scalar and $T$ is the trace of the energy-momentum tensor. We consider the functional form $f(R,T)=f(R)+f(T)$, with $f(R)$ being the Starobinksy model, named $R+\alpha R^{2}$, and $f(T)=2\gamma T$, with $\alpha$ and $\gamma$ being constants. We show that a hybrid expansion law form for the scale factor is a solution for the derived Friedmann-like equations. In this way, the model is able to predict both the decelerated and the accelerated regimes of expansion of the universe, with the transition redshift between these stages being in accordance with recent observations. We also apply the energy conditions to our material content solutions. Such an application makes us able to obtain the range of acceptability for the free parameters of the model, named $\alpha$ and $\gamma$., Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures

Wormholes are a solution for General Relativity field equations which characterize a passage or a tunnel that connects two different regions of space-time and is filled by some sort of exotic matter, that does not satisfy the energy conditions. On the other hand, it is known that in extended theories of gravity, the extra degrees of freedom once provided may allow the energy conditions to be obeyed and, consequently, the matter content of the wormhole to be non-exotic. In this work, we obtain, as a novelty in the literature, solutions for charged wormholes in the $f(R,T)$ extended theory of gravity. We show that the presence of charge in these objects may be a possibility to respect some stability conditions for their metric. Also, remarkably, the energy conditions are respected in the present approach.

We analise braneworld scenarios via a configurational entropy (CE) formalism. Braneworld scenarios have drawn attention mainly due to the fact that they can explain the hierarchy problem and unify the fundamental forces through a symmetry breaking procedure. Those scenarios localize matter in a $(3+1)$ hypersurface, the brane, which is inserted in a higher dimensional space, the bulk. Novel analytical braneworld models, {in which the warp factor depends} on a free parameter $n$, were recently released in the literature. In this article we will provide a way to constrain this parameter through the relation between information and dynamics of a system described by the CE. We demonstrate that in some cases the CE is an important tool in order to provide the most probable physical system among all the possibilities. In addition, we show that the highest CE is correlated to a tachyonic sector of the configuration, where the solutions for the corresponding model are dynamically unstable.

We propose, as a novelty in the literature, the modelling of wormholes within the particular case of the $f(R,T)$ gravity, namely $f(R,T)=R+\alpha R^{2}+\lambda T$, with $R$ and $T$ being the Ricci scalar and trace of the energy-momentum tensor, respectively, while $\alpha$ and $\lambda$ are constants. Although such a functional form application can be found in the literature, those concern to compact astrophysical objects, such that no wormhole analysis has been done so far. Wormholes are tunnels connecting two different points in space-time. In this work we propose the modelling of static wormholes within the $f(R,T)$ extended theory of gravity perspective. We present some models of wormholes, which are constructed from different hypothesis for their matter content, i.e., different relations for their pressure components (radial and lateral) and different equations of state. The solutions obtained for the shape function of the wormholes obey the necessary metric conditions. They show a behaviour similar to those found in previous references about wormholes, which also happens to our solutions for the energy density of such objects. A difficult task to deal with is the analytical treatment of models composed by three real scalar fields, once their equations of motion are in general coupled and hard to be integrated. In order to overcome this problem we introduce a methodology to construct three-field models based on the so-called "extension method". The fundamental idea of the procedure is to combine three one-field systems in a non-trivial way, to construct an effective three scalar field model. An interesting scenario where the method can be implemented is within inflationary models, where the Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian is coupled with the scalar field Lagrangian. The $f(R,T)$ gravity is an extended theory of gravity in which the gravitational action contains general terms of both the Ricci scalar $R$ and trace of the energy-momentum tensor $T$. In this way, $f(R,T)$ models are capable of describing a non-minimal coupling between geometry (through terms in $R$) and matter (through terms in $T$). In this article we construct a cosmological model from the simplest non-minimal matter-geometry coupling within the $f(R,T)$ gravity formalism, by means of an effective energy-momentum tensor, given by the sum of the usual matter energy-momentum tensor with a dark energy contribution, with the latter coming from the matter-geometry coupling terms. We apply the energy conditions to our solutions in order to obtain a range of values for the free parameters of the model which yield a healthy and well-behaved scenario. For some values of the free parameters which are submissive to the energy conditions application, it is possible to predict a transition from a decelerated period of the expansion of the universe to a period of acceleration (dark energy era). We also propose further applications of this particular case of the $f(R,T)$ formalism in order to check its reliability in other fields, rather than cosmology., Comment: 8 pages (two column) 9 figures

The recent article entitled "Cosmological inviability of $f(R,T)$ gravity" [Phys. Rev. D 95 (2017) 123536], by H. Velten and T.R.P. Caram\^es, claims that the reference "A transition from a decelerated to an accelerated phase of the universe expansion from the simplest non-trivial polynomial function of T in the f(R,T) formalism" by P.H.R.S. Moraes, G. Ribeiro and R.A.C. Correa [Astrophys. Space Sci. 361 (2016) 227] has "problematic points" concerning its mathematical approach and observable consequences. Velten and Caram\^es argue that the equation of the scale factor evolution in time in the $f(R,T)=R+\alpha T+\beta T^{2}$ cosmology was erroneously calculated. One crucial consequence of the supposed corrected version of such an equation, presented by the authors in [Phys. Rev. D 95 (2017) 123536], would be the absence of the transition from a decelerated to an accelerated phase of the expansion of the universe, an outcome originally predicted by Moraes, Ribeiro and Correa. We show that the above claim is incorrect and that there are no inconsistencies with the results by Moraes, Ribeiro and Correa in the referred work. In particular, we show that Velten and Caram\^es have incorrectly performed their calculations, invalidating all their mathematical and physical criticism regarding the article by Moraes, Ribeiro and Correa. In addition, we quote that the solutions obtained by Velten and Caram\^es are unfeasible in view of their mathematical misunderstanding., Comment: Pedro Moraes (moraes.phrs@gmail.com) We realyzed that the error pointed out in our article is merely a typo of Reference [Phys. In this work we investigate the equilibrium configurations of white dwarfs in a modified gravity theory, na\-mely, $f(R,T)$ gravity, for which $R$ and $T$ stand for the Ricci scalar and trace of the energy-momentum tensor, respectively. Considering the functional form $f(R,T)=R+2\lambda T$, with $\lambda$ being a constant, we obtain the hydrostatic equilibrium equation for the theory. Some physical properties of white dwarfs, such as: mass, radius, pressure and energy density, as well as their dependence on the parameter $\lambda$ are derived. More massive and larger white dwarfs are found for negative values of $\lambda$ when it decreases. The equilibrium configurations predict a maximum mass limit for white dwarfs slightly above the Chandrasekhar limit, with larger radii and lower central densities when compared to standard gravity outcomes. The most important effect of $f(R,T)$ theory for massive white dwarfs is the increase of the radius in comparison with GR and also $f(R)$ results. By comparing our results with some observational data of massive white dwarfs we also find a lower limit for $\lambda$, namely, $\lambda >- 3\times 10^{-4}$., Comment: To be published in EPJC

In this paper we derive a cosmological model from the $f(R,T)$ theory of gravity, for which $R$ is the Ricci scalar and $T$ is the trace of the energy-momentum tensor. We consider $f(R,T)=f(R)+f(T)$, with $f(R)$ being the Starobinksy model $R+\alpha R^{2}$ and $f(T)=\gamma T$, with $\alpha$ and $\gamma$ constants. Originally proposed as a tool for teaching the general theory of relativity, wormholes are today approached in many different ways and are seeing as an efficient alternative for interstellar and time travel. Attempts to achieve observational signatures of wormholes have been growing as the subject has became more and more popular. In this article we investigate some $f(R,T)$ theoretical predictions for static wormholes, i.e., wormholes whose throat radius can be considered a constant. Since the $T$-dependence in $f(R,T)$ gravity is due to the consideration of quantum effects, a further investigation of wormholes in such a theory is well motivated. We obtain the energy conditions of static wormholes in $f(R,T)$ gravity and apply an analytical approach to find the solutions. We highlight that our results are in agreement with previous solutions presented in the literature.

In this work we derive and analyse cosmological scenarios coming from multi-component scalar field models. We consider a direct sum of a sine-Gordon with a Z2 model, and also a combination of those with a BNRT model. Moreover, we work with a modified version of the BNRT model, which breaks the Z2 x Z2 symmetry of the original BNRT potential, coupled with the sine-Gordon and with the standard Z2 models. We show that our approach can be straightforwardly elevated to $N$ fields. All the computations are made analytically and some parameters restriction is put forward in order to get in touch with complete and realistic cosmological scenarios.

This letter aims to analyse the so-called configurational entropy in the Weyl pure geometrical thick brane model. The Weyl structure plays a prominent role in the thickness of this model. We find a set of parameters associated to the brane width where the configurational entropy exhibits critical points. Furthermore, we show, by means of this information-theoretical measure, that a stricter bound on the parameter of Weyl pure geometrical brane model arises from the CE.

We present a new approach for the $f(R,T)$ formalism, by exploring the extra terms of its effective energy-momentum tensor $T_{\mu\nu}^{eff}$, namely $\tilde{T}_{\mu\nu}$. Those arise from the consideration of quantum effects, which are usually neglected in general relativity and $f(R)$ theories, and are summed to the usual matter energy-momentum tensor, yielding $T_{\mu\nu}^{eff}=T_{\mu\nu}+\tilde{T}_{\mu\nu}$. Purely from the Bianchi identities, the conservation of both parts of the effective energy-momentum tensor is obtained, rather than the non-conservation of the matter one, originally approached in the $f(R,T)$ theories. In this way, the intriguing scenario of matter-creation, which still lacks observational evidences, is evaded. One is left, then, with two sets of cosmological equations to be solved: the Friedmann-like equations along with the conservation of $T_{\mu\nu}$ and along with the conservation of $\tilde{T}_{\mu\nu}$. We present a physical interpretation for the conservation of the extra terms of the effective energy-momentum tensor, which is related to the presence of stiff matter in the universe. The cosmological features of this approach are presented and discussed as well as the benefits of evading the matter energy-momentum tensor non-conservation.

Configurational entropy has been revealed as a reliable method for constraining some parameters of a given model [Phys. Rev. D \textbf{92} (2015) 126005, Eur. Phys. J. C \textbf{76} (2016) 100]. In this letter we calculate the configurational entropy in Gauss-Bonnet braneworld models. Our results restrict the range of acceptability of the Gauss-Bonnet scalar values. In this way, the information theoretical measure in Gauss-Bonnet scenarios opens a new window to probe situations where the additional parameters, responsible for the Gauss-Bonnet sector, are arbitrary. We also show that such an approach is very important in applications that include p and Dp-branes and various superstring-motivated theories.

There is a host of alternative theories of gravitation in the literature, among them the $f(R,T)$ recently elaborated by Harko and collaborators. In these theories the $R$ and $T$ are respectively the Ricci scalar and the trace of the energy momentum tensor. There is already in literature a series of studies of different forms of the $f(R,T)$ functions as well as their cosmological consequences. However, there is not so far in the literature studies related to the gravitational waves in $f(R,T)$ gravity. Here we consider such an issue, in particular studying the putative extra polarization models that can well appear in such theories. In this work we present cosmological solutions from the simplest non-trivial $T$-dependence in $f(R,T)$ theory of gravity, with $R$ and $T$ standing for the Ricci scalar and trace of the energy-momentum tensor, respectively. Recent elaborated by T. Harko and collaborators, the $f(R,T)$ theories of gravity contemplate an optimistic alternative to dark energy, for which $R$ and $T$ stand for the Ricci scalar and the trace of the energy-momentum tensor, respectively. Although the literature has shown that the $T$ dependence on the gravitational part of the action - which is due to the consideration of quantum effects - may induce some novel features in the scope of late-time cosmological dynamics, in the radiation-dominated universe, when $T=0$, no contributions seem to rise from such theories. Apparently, $f(R,T)$ contributions to a radiation-dominated universe may rise only from the $f(R,T^\varphi)$ approach, which is nothing but the $f(R,T)$ gravity in the case of a self-interacting scalar field whose trace of the energy-momentum tensor is $T^\varphi$. We intend, in this article, to show how $f(R,T^\varphi)$ theories of gravity can contribute to the study of the primordial stages of the universe. Our results predict a graceful exit from inflationary stage to a radiation-dominated era. They also predict a late-time cosmic acceleration after a matter-dominated phase, making the $f(R,T^\varphi)$ theories able to describe, in a self-consistent way, all the different stages of the universe dynamics., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures

We present a study of the generalized second law of thermodynamics in the scope of the f(R,T) theory of gravity, with R and T representing the Ricci scalar and trace of the energy-momentum tensor, respectively. From the energy-momentum tensor equation for the f(R,T) = R + f(T) case, we calculate the form of the geometric entropy in such a theory. Then, the generalized second law of thermodynamics is quantified and some relations for its obedience in f(R,T) gravity are presented. Braneworld scenarios consider our observable universe as a brane embedded in a 5D space, named bulk. In this work, I derive the field equations of a braneworld model in a generalized theory of gravitation, namely $f(R,T)$ gravity, with $R$ and $T$, representing the Ricci scalar and the trace of the energy-momentum tensor, respectively. The cosmological parameters obtained from this approach are in agreement with recent constraints from Supernovae Ia data combined with baryon acoustic oscillations and cosmic microwave background observations, favouring such an alternative description of the universe dynamics., Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure

In this article we study the hydrostatic equilibrium configuration of neutron stars and strange stars, whose fluid pressure is computed from the equations of state $p=\omega\rho^{5/3}$ and $p=0.28(\rho-4{\cal B})$, respectively, with $\omega$ and ${\cal B}$ being constants and $\rho$ the energy density of the fluid. We start by deriving the hydrostatic equilibrium equation for the $f(R,T)$ theory of gravity, with $R$ and $T$ standing for the Ricci scalar and trace of the energy-momentum tensor, respectively. Such an equation is a generalization of the one obtained from general relativity, and the latter can be retrieved for a certain limit of the theory. For the $f(R,T)=R+2\lambda T$ functional form, with $\lambda$ being a constant, we find that some physical properties of the stars, such as pressure, energy density, mass and radius, are affected when $\lambda$ is changed. We show that for a fixed central star energy density, the mass of neutron and strange stars can increase with $\lambda$. Concerning the star radius, it increases for neutron stars and it decreases for strange stars with the increment of $\lambda$. Thus, in $f(R,T)$ theory of gravity we can push the maximum mass above the observational limits. This implies that the equation of state cannot be eliminated if the maximum mass within General Relativity lies below the limit given by observed pulsars., Comment: 8 pages, 12 figures

In this work we show how to complete some Hamilton-Jacobi solutions of linear, nonconservative classical oscillatory systems which appeared in the literature and we extend these complete solutions to the quantum mechanical case. In addition, we get the solution of the quantum Hamilton-Jacobi equation for an electric charge in an oscillating pulsing magnetic field. We also argue that for the case where a charged particle is under the action of an oscillating magnetic field, one can apply nuclear magnetic resonance techniques in order to find experimental results regarding this problem. We obtain all results analytically, showing that the quantum Hamilton-Jacobi formalism is a powerful tool to describe quantum mechanics.

In this work we investigate generalized theories of gravity in the so-called configurational entropy (CE) context. We show, by means of this information-theoretical measure, that a stricter bound on the parameter of $f(R,T)$ brane models arises from the CE. We find that these bounds are characterized by a valley region in the CE profile, where the entropy is minimal. We argue that the CE measure can open a new role and an important additional approach to select parameters in modified theories of gravitation.

In this work we investigate the entropic information-measure in the context of braneworlds with non-constant curvature. The braneworld entropic information is studied for gravity modified by the squared of the Ricci scalar, besides the usual Einstein-Hilbert term. We showed that the minimum value of the brane configurational entropy provides a stricter bound on the parameter that is responsible for the $F(R)$ model to differ from the Einstein-Hilbert standard one. Our results are moreover consistent to a negative bulk cosmological constant.

Modified gravity models have been constantly proposed with the purpose of evading some standard gravity shortcomings. Recently proposed by A.H. Chamseddine and V. Mukhanov, the Mimetic Gravity arises as an optimistic alternative. Our purpose in this work is to derive Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations and solutions for such a gravity theory. We solve them numerically for quark star and neutron star cases. One common approach for cosmic inflation consists in couple Einstein's gravity with a scalar field, often referred to inflaton field. In order to derive analytic simple scenarios, we usually work in the {\it slow-roll} regime. In such an approximation one considers the scalar field potentials to be nearly flat. It is possible to directly generalize such an approach for hybrid inflationary models, where the inflaton sector is composed of two or more scalar fields. However, the Friedmann equations and the equations of motion for such hybrid models are often hard to be analytically solved. Another recent path to describe cosmic inflation is through the so-called {\it fast-roll} regime, where one considers exactly flat potentials. Our purpose in this work is to obtain solutions for a hybrid inflaton model in the fast-roll regime. In this work, I present exact cosmological solutions from Wesson's Induced Matter Model application to a general 5D metric in f(R,T) theory of gravity. The non-conservation of the energy-momentum tensor, predicted by f(R,T) theory, allows the derivation of a relation that describes the time evolution of the extra coordinate, revealing its compactification. When a neutron star is compressed to huge densities, it may be converted to a strange star. In property of the event/year rate of a neutron star - strange star binary system, we show that the operational phase of advanced gravitational wave detectors may bring up some evidences that such strange stars do exist. Moreover we argue that such a system could be a plausible progenitor to GRB 051103 and GRB 070201, whose non-detection by LIGO last run awaits convincing explanation., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS Letters

One possible description for the current accelerated expansion of the universe is quintessence dynamics. The basic idea of quintessence consists of analyzing cosmological scenarios driven by scalar fields. In this work we present some interesting features on the cosmological scenario obtained from the solutions of an effective two scalar field model in a flat space-time. This effective model was constructed by coupling two single scalar field systems in a nontrivial way via an extension method. The solutions related to the fields allowed us to compute analytical cosmological parameters.
