Abstract

Transient performance of the cracking damage of concrete pavement slab was modelled by means of the statistical analysis of the results of the condition survey of pavement surfaces. In the modelling, a double exponential function was applied to the formation of the cumulative distribution function of the annual increment of the cracking index. The validity of the model was verified statistically by the goodness-of-fit test between the surveyed cumulative frequency and the calculated distribution by the model. Reliability of concrete pavement against the cracking damage can be evaluated by this model.

Abstract

Joubert syndrome is a genetic disease with autosomal recessive inheritance, which belongs to a set of diseases catalogued as congenital ciliopathies, which have low, but not yet correctly estimated incidence. It is characterized by a broad spectrum of alterations, which may include agenesis of the cerebellar vermis and clinical presence of hyperpnea, abnormal eye movements, ataxia, and intellectual disability; however, diagnosis is by image study and is given by the "molar tooth sign" in axial slices of magnetic resonance images of the mesencephalon; once identified it is pathognomonic and there is no differential diagnosis. Sc) -- CATIE, Turrialba (Costa Rica),2005 207 páginas 26 ilustraciones, 19 tablas Bibliografía páginas 94-101 En este trabajo se elaboró un estándar de principios, criterios e indicadores para evaluar la sustentabilidad del manejo forestal comunitario y se aplicó en 16 unidades de manejo forestal de Guerrero, México. Se encontró que el manejo del bosque está determinado por factores como distribución de responsabilidades en la empresa forestal, la presencia de control contable y registros, la aplicación de reinversiones y la presencia de mecanismos de seguridad social. La tipología encontrada no obedece únicamente al grado de encadenamiento de la Producción, sino también a aspectos de tipo social y administrativo; la tipología no permitió diferenciar debilidades específicas por grupos, pero podría ayudar a diferenciar la forma de aplicar las inversiones. In this study a standard of principles, criteria, and indicators was made to evaluate the sustainability of community forest management and were applied in 16 forest management units in Guerrero, Mexico. It was found that forest management is determined by factors such as distribution of responsibilities in the forestry enterprise, use of accounting and registers, reinvestments, and social security mechanisMON. The typology found did not only correspond to the degree of the production chain, but also to social and administrative aspects; the typology did not differentiate specific weaknesses for groups, but it could help to differentiate the way investments are used.

74. Concordancia de diagnósticos imagenológico e histopatológico de las lesiones de mama.

Abstract

Diagnosis of BI-RADS category 4A, 4B, 4C, or 5 mammary lesions, by mammogram or echography, suggests the possibility of malignancy in different percentages, for which a biopsy is indicated by the BI-RADS system of the American College of Radiology. It is an invasive procedure which generates additional costs for the patient and the institution. However, the number of breast cancer diagnoses confirmed by histopathology, by means of biopsies of mammary lesions categorized based on image studies as BI-RADS 4A, 4B, 4C, or 5 performed at Hospital Civil in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico, is unknown. OBJECTIVE: determine what percentage of mammary lesions categorized by image studies as BI-RADS 4A, 4B, 4C, o 5 were confirmed as malignant lesions based on histopathological results. METHODOLOGY: a transverse, observational study, with retrospective data collection. RESULTS: in the period from May 2013 to December 2015, 251 biopsies of mammary lesions categorized by image studies as BI-RADS 4A, 4B, 4C, and 5 were performed. Histopathological results were compared with prior image diagnoses, finding a percentage of malignancy of 4.2% for BI-RADS category 4A lesions, 20.4% for category 4B lesions, 30.7% for category 4C, and 100% malignancy for category 5 lesions. CONCLUSIONS: these percentages coincide with those established by the American College of Radiology, except only a smaller percentage of malignant lesions in category 4C, which was not statistically significant because it presented a confidence interval within the range established for that category. This suggests an adequate image-histopathological correlation at our center, placing it within international parameters for quality and other reference image centers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hypoplasia of the internal carotid arteries is a variant of uncommon appearance and therefore rarely reported in the specialized literature. It is often detected incidentally, as it is usually asymptomatic. It may manifest, in adults, as frequent ischemic events or subarachnoid hemorrhage due to its association with aneurysmal formations. It is due to an anomaly of early development whereby circulation forms collaterally to the cerebral vascular blood supply. Abstract

ABSTRACT Objective: Lumbar spine fusion is indicated in patients who are refractory to traditional treatment for degenerative disc disease. The aim of this study was to compare the perioperative and postoperative results of conventional open surgery versus minimally invasive surgery (MIS) in posterior 360° lumbar fusion with pedicle screw instrumentation. Methods: A total of 25 patients underwent MIS and 40 underwent open surgery between 2015 and 2017. Perioperative variables and lumbar and radicular pain values were compared using a visual analogue scale (VAS) and the Oswestry disability index (ODI) until 12 months after surgery. Results: The MIS cohort presented less blood loss (140 vs 345 ml; p=0.001), shorter hospital stay (1.1 vs 2.2 days; p=0.001), longer operative time (113 vs 94 minutes; p=0.001) and greater X-ray exposure (80 vs 6 seconds; p=0.001), compared to the open surgery group. The MIS cohort showed better results in the ODI and lumbar VAS scores. No significant differences were observed in radicular VAS. Conclusion: MIS surgery showed advantages over the open surgery technique; however, the learning curve should be improved in order to reduce operative time. 91. Embarazo ectópico esplénico: reporte de caso.

Abstract

We present the case of a female patient with abdominal pain, amenorrhea, and a positive pregnancy test. Abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound without evidence of intrauterine or pelvic pregnancy. Computed tomography documented a poorly defined lesion in the spleen and free fluid; findings suggestive of splenic rupture, which was surgically corroborated, and splenic ectopic pregnancy was the histopathological result. Twelve cases have been reported: in 4 the preoperative diagnoses were ruptured ectopic pregnancy; in 6 ectopic pregnancy without determining the implantation site, 1 splenic rupture, and in the case under consideration heterogeneous splenic tumor plus hemoperitoneum. Splenic ectopic pregnancy is the least common location among abdominal ectopic pregnancies and represents less than 2% of cases. It is a diagnostic challenge on account of its low incidence, but should be considered in patients who have a positive pregnancy test without confirmation of intrauterine or pelvic pregnancy, due to the high likelihood of rupture and mortality.
